The examination of parity symmetry in gravitational interactions has drawn increasing attention. Although Einstein's General Relativity is parity-conserved, numerous theories of parity-violating (PV) gravity in different frameworks have recently been proposed for different motivations. In this review, we briefly summarize the recent progress of these theories, and focus on the observable effects of PV terms in the gravitational waves (GWs), which are mainly reflected in the difference between the left-hand and right-hand polarization modes. We are primarily concerned with the implications of these theories for GWs generated by the compact binary coalescences and the primordial GWs generated in the early Universe. The deviation of GW waveforms and/or primordial power spectrum can always be quantified by the energy scale of parity violation of the theory. Applying the current and future GW observation from laser interferometers and cosmic microwave background radiation, the current and potential constraints on the PV energy scales are presented, which indicates that the parity symmetry of gravity can be tested in high energy scale in this new era of gravitational waves., Comment: 22 pages, no figures

Contrastive Language-Image Pre-trained (CLIP) models have zero-shot ability of classifying an image belonging to "[CLASS]" by using similarity between the image and the prompt sentence "a [CONTEXT] of [CLASS]". Based on exhaustive text cues in "[CONTEXT]", CLIP model is aware of different contexts, e.g. background, style, viewpoint, and exhibits unprecedented robustness against a wide range of distribution shifts. However, recent works find further fine-tuning of CLIP models improves accuracy but sacrifices the robustness on downstream tasks. We conduct an empirical investigation to show fine-tuning will corrupt the context-aware ability of pre-trained CLIP features. To solve this problem, we propose Context-Aware Robust Fine-tuning (CAR-FT). CAR-FT regularizes the model during fine-tuning to capture the context information. Specifically, we use zero-shot prompt weights to get the context distribution contained in the image. By minimizing the Kullback-Leibler Divergence (KLD) between context distributions induced by original/fine-tuned CLIP models, CAR-FT makes the context-aware ability of CLIP inherited into downstream tasks, and achieves both higher In-Distribution (ID) and Out-Of-Distribution (OOD) accuracy. The experimental results show CAR-FT achieves superior robustness on five OOD test datasets of ImageNet, and meanwhile brings accuracy gains on nine downstream tasks. Additionally, CAR-FT surpasses previous Domain Generalization (DG) methods and gets 78.5% averaged accuracy on DomainBed benchmark, building the new state-of-the-art.

We calculate the gravitational waveform radiated from spinning black holes (BHs) binary in dynamical Chern-Simons (dCS) gravity. The equation of motion (EOM) of the spinining binary BHs is derived based on the modified Mathisson-Papapetrou-Dixon equation for the spin-aligned circular orbits. The leading-order effects induced by the dCS theory contains spin-spin interaction and monopole-quadrupole interaction, which influence both the EOM of the binary system and corresponding gravitational waveform at the second post-Newtonian (PN) order (i.e., 2PN order). After reporting the waveforms, we investigate the polarization modes of gravitational waves (GWs) in dCS theory. None of the extra modes appears in this theory up to the considered PN order. Moreover, since the time scale of the binary merger is much smaller than that of the cosmological expansion, the parity-violating effect of the dCS theory does not appear in the process of GW generation. However, during the process of GW propagation, amplitude birefringence, a typical parity-violating effect, makes plus and cross modes convert to each other, which modifies the gravitational waveform at 1.5PN order., Comment: 30 pages

With the urgent need to implement the EU countries pledges and to monitor the effectiveness of Green Deal plan, Monitoring Reporting and Verification tools are needed to track how emissions are changing for all the sectors. Current official inventories only provide annual estimates of national CO$_2$ emissions with a lag of 1+ year which do not capture the variations of emissions due to recent shocks including COVID lockdowns and economic rebounds, war in Ukraine. Here we present a near-real-time country-level dataset of daily fossil fuel and cement emissions from January 2019 through December 2021 for 27 EU countries and UK, which called Carbon Monitor Europe. The data are calculated separately for six sectors: power, industry, ground transportation, domestic aviation, international aviation and residential. Daily CO$_2$ emissions are estimated from a large set of activity data compiled from different sources. The goal of this dataset is to improve the timeliness and temporal resolution of emissions for European countries, to inform the public and decision makers about current emissions changes in Europe.

Oscillatory behaviors are ubiquitous in nature and the human society. However, most previous works fail to reproduce them in the two-strategy game-theoretical models. Here we show that oscillatory behaviors naturally emerge if incomplete information is incorporated into the cooperation evolution of a non-Markov model. Specifically, we consider a population playing prisoner's dilemma game, where each individual can only probabilistically get access to their neighbors' payoff information and store them within their memory with a given length. They make their decisions based upon these memories. Interestingly, we find that the level of cooperation generally cannot stabilize but render quasi-periodic oscillation, and this observation is strengthened for a longer memory and a smaller information acquisition probability. The mechanism uncovered shows that there are misperceived payoffs about the player's neighborhood, facilitating the growth of cooperators and defectors at different stages that leads to oscillatory behaviors as a result. Our findings are robust to the underlying structure of the population. Given the omnipresence of incomplete information, our findings may provide a plausible explanation for the phenomenon of oscillatory behaviors in the real world., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures

We compute the complete two-loop electroweak corrections to the Higgsstralung process $e^+e^-\rightarrow HZ$ at the future Higgs factory. The Feynman integrals involved in the computation are decomposed into linear combinations of a minimal set of master integrals taking advantage of the recent developments of integral reduction techniques. The master integrals are then evaluated by differential equations with boundary conditions provided by the auxiliary mass flow method. Our final result for given $\sqrt{s}$ is expressed as a piecewise function defined by several deeply expanded power series, which has high precision and can be further manipulated efficiently. After in quiescence for 49 years, 4U~1730--22 became active and had two outbursts in 2021 \& 2022; ten thermonuclear X-ray bursts were detected with Insight-HXMT. Among them, the faintest burst showed a double-peaked profile, placing the source as the 5th accreting neutron star (NS) exhibiting double/triple-peaked type-I X-ray bursts; the other bursts showed photospheric radius expansion (PRE). The properties of double-peaked non-PRE burst indicate that it could be related to a stalled burning front. For the five bright PRE bursts, apart from the emission from the neutron star (NS) surface, we find the residuals both in the soft ($<$3 keV) and hard ($>$10 keV) X-ray band. Time-resolved spectroscopy reveals that the excess can be attributed to an enhanced pre-burst/persistent emission or the Comptonization of the burst emission by the corona/boundary-layer. We find, the burst emission shows a rise until the photosphere touches down to the NS surface rather than the theoretical predicted constant Eddington luminosity. The shortage of the burst emission in the early rising phase is beyond the occlusion by the disk. We speculate that the findings above correspond to that the obscured part (not only the lower part) of the NS surface is exposed to the line of sight due to the evaporation of the obscured material by the burst emission, or the burst emission is anisotropic ($\xi>1$) in the burst early phase. Backdoor attack is a powerful attack algorithm to deep learning model. Recently, GNN's vulnerability to backdoor attack has been proved especially on graph classification task. In this paper, we propose the first backdoor detection and defense method on GNN. Most backdoor attack depends on injecting small but influential trigger to the clean sample. For graph data, current backdoor attack focus on manipulating the graph structure to inject the trigger. We find that there are apparent differences between benign samples and malicious samples in some explanatory evaluation metrics, such as fidelity and infidelity. After identifying the malicious sample, the explainability of the GNN model can help us capture the most significant subgraph which is probably the trigger in a trojan graph. We use various dataset and different attack settings to prove the effectiveness of our defense method. The attack success rate all turns out to decrease considerably., Comment: 10 pages, 10 figures

Next basket recommender systems (NBRs) aim to recommend a user's next (shopping) basket of items via modeling the user's preferences towards items based on the user's purchase history, usually a sequence of historical baskets. Due to its wide applicability in the real-world E-commerce industry, the studies NBR have attracted increasing attention in recent years. NBRs have been widely studied and much progress has been achieved in this area with a variety of NBR approaches having been proposed. However, an important issue is that there is a lack of a systematic and unified evaluation over the various NBR approaches. Different studies often evaluate NBR approaches on different datasets, under different experimental settings, making it hard to fairly and effectively compare the performance of different NBR approaches. To bridge this gap, in this work, we conduct a systematical empirical study in NBR area. Specifically, we review the representative work in NBR and analyze their cons and pros. Then, we run the selected NBR algorithms on the same datasets, under the same experimental setting and evaluate their performances using the same measurements. This provides a unified framework to fairly compare different NBR approaches. We hope this study can provide a valuable reference for the future research in this vibrant area.

A facile, one-step nitridation–decomposition method was developed for the synthesis of nanosized tungsten powder with a high surface area. This approach involved the nitridation of WO3 in NH3 to form mesoporous tungsten nitride (W2N), followed by in situ decomposition of W2N to directly yield single-phase W particles. The phase and morphology evolution during the synthesis were systematically investigated and compared with the carbothermal reduction of WO3. It was revealed that powdered tungsten product with single-phase particles was obtained after nitridation at 800 °C combined with in situ decomposition at 1000 °C, displaying an average particle size of 15 nm and a large specific surface area of 6.52 m2/g. Furthermore, the proposed method avoided the limitations associated with intermediate phase formation and coarsening observed in carbothermal reduction, which resulted in the growth of W particles up to ~4.4 μm in size. This work demonstrates the potential of the nitridation–decomposition approach for the scalable and efficient synthesis of high-quality, fine-grained tungsten powder.

Abstract The recommended bearing capacity of medium weathering mudstone foundation is less than the capacity of the rock structure to withstand loads in Southwest China. A comprehensive failure characterization of medium weathering mudstone in Chengdu has been performed including bearing plate test (BPT), binocular vision measurement (BVM) test, uniaxial compressive strength test, trial trench test of shallow rock surface and 3D imaging in this paper. Failure behavior of rock has been modeled with 3D imaging algorithm that utilizes Zhang’s calibration method in BVM system combination with trial trench test of shallow rock surface. The bearing capacity of medium weathering mudstone foundation were extracted from uniaxial experiments and BPT-BVM test by fitting relevant material properties to the data. The results revealed that: Bearing capacity of medium weathering mudstone of layered isotropic in Chengdu is undervalued. Specifically, the characteristic load carrying value is in the range 1500–2500 kP, that is 50% higher than in the local standard system. Failure process is different from Hoek–Brown Failure Criterion, presenting a wave peak transfer phenomenon of the increment displacement into the distance. Thus, it can be reduced to that of punching failures for thin bedded structures of Moudstone foundations. Compressive strength of soft rock proves to be main factor limiting the bearing capacity, a clear correlation between the uniaxial compressive strength reduction coefficient and the bearing capacity has been used to establish, leading to the proposal of a load bearing capacity prediction model.

Abstract MAPK pathway-driven tumorigenesis, often induced by BRAFV600E, relies on epithelial dedifferentiation. However, how lineage differentiation events are reprogrammed remains unexplored. Here, we demonstrate that proteostatic reactivation of developmental factor, TBX3, accounts for BRAF/MAPK-mediated dedifferentiation and tumorigenesis. During embryonic development, BRAF/MAPK upregulates USP15 to stabilize TBX3, which orchestrates organogenesis by restraining differentiation. The USP15-TBX3 axis is reactivated during tumorigenesis, and Usp15 knockout prohibits BRAFV600E-driven tumor development in a Tbx3-dependent manner. Deleting Tbx3 or Usp15 leads to tumor redifferentiation, which parallels their overdifferentiation tendency during development, exemplified by disrupted thyroid folliculogenesis and elevated differentiation factors such as Tpo, Nis, Tg. The clinical relevance is highlighted in that both USP15 and TBX3 highly correlates with BRAFV600E signature and poor tumor prognosis. Thus, USP15 stabilized TBX3 represents a critical proteostatic mechanism downstream of BRAF/MAPK-directed developmental homeostasis and pathological transformation, supporting that tumorigenesis largely relies on epithelial dedifferentiation achieved via embryonic regulatory program reinitiation.

Abstract Background It is well established that hypercholesterolemia increases the risk of atherosclerosis, especially because it reduces the availability of nitric oxide (NO). However, the relationship between hypercholesterolemia and NO in regulating colorectal cancer development and progression remains unknown. Methods We conducted bioinformatics analysis, qRT-PCR, ChIP-qPCR assays, luciferase report assays, clonogenic survival assays, and multiple mouse models to investigate the function and mechanism of hypercholesterolemia in regulating NO signaling. Additionally, NOS inhibitors were used to evaluate the potential of therapeutic strategy in anti-tumor response. Results Here, we show that oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL) cholesterol and its receptor LOX-1 are essential for hypercholesterolemia-induced colorectal tumorigenesis. Mechanically, the oxLDL promotes the oxidant stress-dependent induction of hypoxia signaling to transcriptionally up-regulate NO synthase (NOS) especially NOS1 expression in colorectal cancer (CRC) cells. More importantly, our results suggested that selective inhibition of NOS1 with its specific inhibitor Nω-Propyl-L-arginine is a suitable therapeutic strategy for hypercholesterolemia-related CRC with both efficacy and toxicity reduction. Conclusions Our findings established that hypercholesterolemia induces the oxidant stress-dependent induction of hypoxia signaling to transcriptionally up-regulate NOS1 expression in CRC cells, and the clinically applicable NOS1 inhibitor Nω-Propyl-L-arginine represents an effective therapeutic strategy for hypercholesterolemia-related CRC.

Abstract The corticospinal tract (CST) is the principal neural pathway responsible for conducting voluntary movement in the vertebrate nervous system. Netrin-1 is a well-known guidance molecule for midline crossing of commissural axons during embryonic development. Families with inherited Netrin-1 mutations display congenital mirror movements (CMM), which are associated with malformations of pyramidal decussation in most cases. Here, we investigated the role of Netrin-1 in CST formation by generating conditional knockout (CKO) mice using a Gfap-driven Cre line. A large proportion of CST axons spread laterally in the ventral medulla oblongata, failed to decussate and descended in the ipsilateral spinal white matter of Ntn1Gfap CKO mice. Netrin-1 mRNA was expressed in the ventral ventricular zone (VZ) and midline, while Netrin-1 protein was transported by radial glial cells to the ventral medulla, through which CST axons pass. The level of transported Netrin-1 protein was significantly reduced in Ntn1Gfap CKO mice. In addition, Ntn1Gfap CKO mice displayed increased symmetric movements. Our findings indicate that VZ-derived Netrin-1 deletion leads to an abnormal trajectory of the CST in the spinal cord due to the failure of CST midline crossing and provides novel evidence supporting the idea that the Netrin-1 signalling pathway is involved in the pathogenesis of CMM.

Feeding habits and competitive interactions among dominant grasshopper species in the Xinjiang grasslands (China) were studied under natural conditions through microscopic analyses of insect crop contents. Sex-specific and interindividual differences in feeding habits and interspecific competition were investigated. Analyses of ecological niche width and overlap revealed potential competition among grasshoppers. The results showed significant difference in the sex-specific variations in the feeding habits of the seven grasshoppers; sex-specific variations in feeding range and preferred plants were observed, with females feeding more extensively on host plants, and female and male adults choosing to feed on different plant species. Individuals of all seven grasshoppers showed different degrees of dietary variance, with oligophagous grasshoppers (Oedaleus decorus males, Dericorys annulata, and Bryodema gebleri males) showing a smaller degree of individual dietary variance than polyphagous grasshoppers (Oedipoda caerulescens, Calliptamus coelesyriensis females, Calliptamus barbarus, and Notostaurus albicornis); Calliptamus coelesyriensis and Notostaurus albicornis showed the greatest individual variance in their diets. Oedaleus decorus, Bryodema gebleri, and Calliptamus barbarus consumed primarily Poaceae and exhibited varying foot-plant choice. For example, Oedaleus decorus was observed to have high- preference feeding for Poa annua, Bryodema gebleri for Stipa capillata, and Calliptamus barbarus for Setaria viridis. Dericorys annulata fed primarily on Amaranthaceae, Notostaurus albicornis fed primarily on Poaceae and Amaranthaceae, and Oedipoda caerulescens fed primarily on Asteraceae. Calliptamus barbarus exhibited strong interspecific competition with Oedaleus decorus and Calliptamus coelesyriensis, and Bryodema gebleri demonstrated the strongest interspecific competition with all six other species. Considering the influence of sex on interspecific competition among grasshoppers enhances our understanding of interspecific competitive relationships.

Abstract Diphthamide is a modified histidine residue unique for eukaryotic translation elongation factor 2 (eEF2), a key ribosomal protein. Loss of this evolutionarily conserved modification causes developmental defects through unknown mechanisms. In a patient with compound heterozygous mutations in Diphthamide Biosynthesis 1 (DPH1) and impaired eEF2 diphthamide modification, we observe multiple defects in neural crest (NC)-derived tissues. Knockin mice harboring the patient’s mutations and Xenopus embryos with Dph1 depleted also display NC defects, which can be attributed to reduced proliferation in the neuroepithelium. DPH1 depletion facilitates dissociation of eEF2 from ribosomes and association with p53 to promote transcription of the cell cycle inhibitor p21, resulting in inhibited proliferation. Knockout of one p21 allele rescues the NC phenotypes in the knockin mice carrying the patient’s mutations. These findings uncover an unexpected role for eEF2 as a transcriptional coactivator for p53 to induce p21 expression and NC defects, which is regulated by diphthamide modification.

Abstract We revisit HHH model [1] and extend the ansatz of matter fields to being of depending on a spatial dimension except the holographic direction. Despite homogeneous solutions of ground and excited states, especially for the excited states, there also exists solutions where the translational invariance is broken. It is worth mentioning that no periodic sources are assigned to the matter fields, so the translational symmetry is broken spontaneously. We investigate how the new solutions and the condensates of excited states develop with the change of temperature. Moreover, since this kind of condensate will decrease at certain temperature and eventually vanish at sufficiently low temperature, we also study the relation between this interval and length of lattice. Besides, we compare the free energies of non-translational invariant solutions and those of translational invariance in the HHH model, and find that the free energies of the former situations are lower.

Abstract Background Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), characterized by β-cell dysfunction and insulin resistance (IR), presents considerable treatment challenges. Apelin is an adipocyte-derived factor that shows promise in improving IR; however, it is limited by poor targeting and a short half-life. In the present study, engineered small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) derived from Wharton’s jelly-derived mesenchymal stem cells (WJ-MSCs) loaded with apelin were used to address the limitations of the therapeutic application of apelin. Methods WJ-MSCs were transduced to obtain engineered sEVs loaded with overexpressed apelin (apelin-MSC-sEVs) and the control sEVs (MSC-sEVs). T2DM mice were injected with apelin-MSC-sEVs and MSC-sEVs, and blood glucose monitoring, glucose and insulin tolerance tests, confocal microscopy, and immunocytochemical analysis were performed. IR models of 3T3-L1 adipocytes were employed to detect GLUT4 expression in each group using western blotting; the affected pathways were determined by measuring the changes in Akt and AMPK signaling and phosphorylation. Results Upon successful engineering, WJ-MSCs demonstrated significant overexpression of apelin. The genetic modification did not adversely impact the characteristics of sEVs, ranging from surface protein markers, morphology, to particle size, but generated apelin-overexpressed sEVs. Apelin-MSC-sEVs treatment resulted in notable enhancement of Akt and AMPK pathway activities within 3T3-L1 adipocytes and adipose tissues of T2DM mice. Furthermore, the apelin-loaded sEVs significantly reduced plasma glucose levels, increased pancreatic β-cell proliferation, improved insulin and glucose tolerance, and modulated pro-inflammatory cytokine profiles, compared to mice treated with the control sEVs. Conclusion Our study developed novel genetically engineered apelin-loaded sEVs derived from WJ-MSCs, and demonstrated their potent role in augmenting insulin sensitivity and regulating inflammatory responses, highlighting their therapeutic promise in T2DM management. The findings open new avenues for the development of clinically viable treatments for T2DM in humans using the apelin-loaded sEVs.

Abstract Disc cutters are essential for full-section hard-rock tunnel boring machines. The performance of these devices directly affects tunnel engineering costs and duration. This paper proposes a sinusoidal variable cross-section (VCS) cutter ring and design method and establishes a digital model. Rock-like materials are simulated with a finite element model, and the model validity is verified via rock simulation mechanics tests. A disc cutter rolling rock simulation model for a linear cutting machine is also established, and simulation tests are performed for single- and three-cutter rolling using sinusoidal VCSs and constant cross-section (CCS) cutter models, respectively. The stress and energy changes for the cutters and rock-like material damage area were compared via simulation, confirming that some sinusoidal VCS cutter rings do less work on rock-like materials and cause larger crushing areas under the same engineering parameters; therefore, these cutter rings have smaller specific energies. The sinusoidal VCS cutter ring performance is 7% greater than that of CCS on average under single-cutter simulation, and the intermediate cutter performance of the intermediate cutter is 9% greater than that of CCS on average under three-cutter simulation. Thus, sinusoidal VCS cutter rings offer improved rock damage performance, and further research and application of this technology will improve the working efficiency of tunnel boring machines.

Indigofera jintongpenensis, a new species of the subfamily Papilionoideae of Fabaceae, is described and illustrated from Yunnan, southwest China. The new species is characterised by having a prostrate habit, flexible stems and branches, as well as spreading, sub-basifixed, asymmetrically 2-branched trichomes covering the entire plant, discoid calyx, and racemose inflorescences 6–8-flowered, short, 1–2 (–3.5) cm in length, apparently shorter than the leaf. A distribution map and comparison of morphological diagnostic characters with its morphologically similar species are provided. Additionally, a preliminary conservation assessment of I. jintongpenensis is proposed following IUCN criteria.

Abstract Small RNAs (microRNAs [miRNAs] or small interfering RNAs [siRNAs]) are effective tools for cancer therapy, but many of the existing carriers for their delivery are limited by low bioavailability, insufficient loading, impaired transport across biological barriers, and low delivery into the tumor microenvironment. Extracellular vesicle (EV)–based communication in mammalian and plant systems is important for many physiological and pathological processes, and EVs show promise as carriers for RNA interference molecules. However, some fundamental issues limit their use, such as insufficient cargo loading and low potential for scaling production. Plant-derived vesicles (PDVs) are membrane-coated vesicles released in the apoplastic fluid of plants that contain biomolecules that play a role in several biological mechanisms. Here, we developed an alternative approach to deliver miRNA for cancer therapy using PDVs. We isolated vesicles from watermelon and formulated a hybrid, exosomal, polymeric system in which PDVs were combined with a dendrimer bound to miRNA146 mimic. Third generation PAMAM was chosen due to its high branching structure and versatility for loading molecules of interest. We performed several in vivo experiments to demonstrate the therapeutic efficacy of our compound and explored in vitro biological mechanisms underlying the anti-tumor effects of miRNA146, which are mostly related to its anti-angiogenic activity.

Abstract Background Endometrial fibrosis, a significant characteristic of intrauterine adhesion (IUA), is caused by the excessive differentiation and activation of endometrial stromal cells (ESCs). Glutaminolysis is the metabolic process of glutamine (Gln), which has been implicated in multiple types of organ fibrosis. So far, little is known about whether glutaminolysis plays a role in endometrial fibrosis. Methods The activation model of ESCs was constructed by TGF-β1, followed by RNA-sequencing analysis. Changes in glutaminase1 (GLS1) expression at RNA and protein levels in activated ESCs were verified experimentally. Human IUA samples were collected to verify GLS1 expression in endometrial fibrosis. GLS1 inhibitor and glutamine deprivation were applied to ESCs models to investigate the biological functions and mechanisms of glutaminolysis in ESCs activation. The IUA mice model was established to explore the effect of glutaminolysis inhibition on endometrial fibrosis. Results We found that GLS1 expression was significantly increased in activated ESCs models and fibrotic endometrium. Glutaminolysis inhibition by GLS1 inhibitor bis-2-(5-phenylacetamido-1,2,4-thiadiazol-2-yl) ethyl sulfide (BPTES or glutamine deprivation treatment suppressed the expression of two fibrotic markers, α-SMA and collagen I, as well as the mitochondrial function and mTORC1 signaling in ESCs. Furthermore, inhibition of the mTORC1 signaling pathway by rapamycin suppressed ESCs activation. In IUA mice models, BPTES treatment significantly ameliorated endometrial fibrosis and improved pregnancy outcomes. Conclusion Glutaminolysis and glutaminolysis-associated mTOR signaling play a role in the activation of ESCs and the pathogenesis of endometrial fibrosis through regulating mitochondrial function. Glutaminolysis inhibition suppresses the activation of ESCs, which might be a novel therapeutic strategy for IUA.

Terahertz (THz) waves have been widely hailed as a key enabling technology for future sixth generation (6G) wireless networks. Dynamic modulation of their polarization states is of great attraction for high-capacity communications and anisotropic sensing. The development of such technology is, however, still in very early stage owing to the difficulties of realizing electrical reconfigurability for THz devices. Artificially constructed metasurfaces and new nanomaterials, such as graphene, have been shown to provide revolutionary platforms for manipulating and controlling the wave properties, especially at THz frequencies. This work leverages the light–matter interaction in a graphene-integrated metasurface functioning as an electrically reconfigurable THz polarization converter. A novel graphene-gold bilayer topology is applied to construct such a metasurface which enables wide-range electrical tunability of the polarization conversion. Under a y-polarized illumination, the reflected components of x- and y-polarizations are tuned dynamically through an external bias voltage across the metasurface, thereby producing an elliptically polarized wave with tuneable ellipticity and angle. By changing the voltage from 0 V to 12 V, the reflected polarization ellipticity has been tuned from −0.94 to −0.5 at around 240 GHz, featuring linear-to-circular and linear-to-elliptical polarization conversions. Meanwhile, the polarization angle has been modulated from 12° to −23° at around 236 GHz. This work provides an experimentally validated THz graphene-integrated metasurface with wide polarization modulation depths, low biasing voltages and simple configuration. It promises great potential for applications in future THz communications and sensing.

With the continuous innovation of genomics, proteomics and molecular biological detection technology, the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has changed from traditional chemotherapy to immunotherapy and targeted therapy. Among them, molecular tumor markers targeting tyrosine kinase pathways play more important roles in clinical practice. For advanced NSCLC patients with positive epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations, there are many first-line drugs on the market and they could bring significant efficacy, thus completely subverting the treatment pattern of advanced NSCLC. Common mutations of EGFR in Chinese patients are located on exons 19, 20 and 21, of which exons 19 and 21 mutations are the more common types. Besides, there is also a subtype of EGFR mutations, known as EGFR 20 exon insertion (EGFR 20ins) mutation. The authors summarized the treatment of a lung adenocarcinoma patient with EGFR 20ins mutation accepting Furmonertinib mesylate, in order to provide effective references for clinical diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract Background Nutritional status is a modifiable factor associated with perimenopausal women’s health and quality of life. Assessing body composition indicators helps to comprehensively understand nutritional status compared with using body mass index (BMI) only. However, few published studies measured the trends in body composition among perimenopausal women. Objectives To assess the one-year trajectory of the nutritional status of perimenopausal women and to explore its influential factors. Methods A community-based observational study with 3-wave repeated measurements at 6-month intervals was carried out. The nutritional status indicators include weight, body mass index (BMI), and body composition variables. Bioelectrical impedance analysis was used to assess body composition. Repeated measures ANOVA and Chi-square test were used to calculate the changes in nutritional status and generalized estimating equations were performed to explore their influential factors. Results 2760 participants completed the study. Abstract Parents’ beliefs and attitudes toward their children with Tourette syndrome (TS) influence treatment-seeking behaviors. This study aimed to explore and describe the Chinese parents’ perspectives on the causes of TS for their children. A qualitative study using semi-structured interviews was conducted with the parents of TS patients from a children’s hospital in western China from June to July 2021, and thematic analysis was performed to transcribe interviews and identify themes. A total of 13 participants were interviewed in this study. Five themes were developed in relation to the cognition of the causes of TS in parents, including physical problems, parenting and education problems, mental problems, bad habits, and neurological problems. Due to the insufficient awareness of TS, most parents repeatedly seek medical advice that they regarded the symptoms as physical problems or neurological problems. They generally felt guilty and blamed themselves for their parenting styles and education methods. And some parents attributed it to the poor psychological quality or the bad habits of children. Study findings showed a lack of scientific understanding of the causes of TS among parents further hindered the timely effective treatment for patients and affected the family relationships, which highlights the importance of public education and raising awareness of the disease.

Results In this study, a strain, Paenibacillus sp. lzh-N1, that could inhibit the growth of the pathogenic fungus Mycosphaerella sentina (Fr) Schrorter was isolated from the rhizosphere soil of pear trees, and the complete genome sequence of the strain was obtained, annotated, and analyzed to reveal the genetic foundation of its antagonistic ability. The entire genome of this strain contained a circular chromosome of 5,641,488 bp with a GC content of 45.50%. The results of species identification show that the strain belongs to the same species as P. polymyxa Sb3-1 and P. polymyxa CJX518. Sixteen secondary metabolic biosynthetic gene clusters were predicted by antiSMASH, including those of the antifungal peptides fusaricidin B and paenilarvins. In addition, biofilm formation-related genes containing two potential gene clusters for cyclic lactone autoinducer, a gene encoding S-ribosylhomocysteine lyase (LuxS), and three genes encoding exopolysaccharide biosynthesis protein were identified. Conclusions Antifungal peptides and glucanase biosynthesized by Paenibacillus sp. lzh-N1 may be responsible for its antagonistic effect. Moreover, quorum sensing systems may influence the biocontrol activity of this strain directly or indirectly.

Background: The musculoskeletal system contains an extensive network of lymphatic vessels. Decreased lymph flow of the draining collecting lymphatics usually occurs in clinic after traumatic fractures. However, whether defects in lymphatic drainage can affect fracture healing is unclear. Methods: To investigate the effect of lymphatic dysfunction on fracture healing, we used a selective VEGFR3 tyrosine kinase inhibitor to treat tibial fractured mice for 5 weeks versus a vehicle-treated control. To ensure successfully establishing deceased lymphatic drainage model for fractured mice, we measured lymphatic clearance by near infrared indocyanine green lymphatic imaging (NIR-ICG) and the volume of the draining popliteal lymph nodes (PLNs) by ultrasound at the whole phases of fracture healing. In addition, hindlimb edema from day 0 to day 7 post-fracture, pain sensation by Hargreaves test at day 1 post-fracture, bone histomorphometry by micro-CT and callus composition by Alcian Blue-Hematoxylin/Orange G staining at day 14 post-fracture, and bone quality by biomechanical testing at day 35 post-fracture were applied to evaluate fracture healing. To promote fracture healing via increasing lymphatic drainage, we then treated fractured mice with anti-mouse podoplanin (PDPN) neutralizing antibody or isotype IgG antibody for 1 week to observe lymphatic drainage function and assess bone repair as methods described above. Results: Compared to vehicle-treated group, SAR-treatment group significantly decreased lymphatic clearance and the volume of draining PLNs. SAR-treatment group significantly increased soft tissue swelling, and reduced bone volume (BV)/tissue volume (TV), trabecular number (Tb.N), woven bone and biomechanical properties of fracture callus. In addition, anti-PDPN treated group significantly reduced the number of CD41+ platelets in PLNs and increased the number of pulsatile lymphatic vessels, lymphatic clearance and the volume of PLNs. Moreover, anti-PDPN treated group significantly reduced hindlimb edema and pain sensation and increased BV/TV, trabecular number (Tb.Th), woven bone and biomechanical properties of fracture callus. Conclusions: Inhibition of proper lymphatic drainage function delayed fracture healing. Use of a anti-PDPN neutralizing antibody reduced lymphatic platelet thrombosis (LPT), increased lymphatic drainage and improved fracture healing. The translational potential of this article: (1) We demonstrated lymphatic drainage function is crucial for fracture healing. (2) To unblock the lymphatic drainage and prevent the risk of bleeding and mortality by blood thinner, we demonstrated PDPN neutralizing antibody is a novel and safe way forward in the treatment of bone fracture healing by eliminating LPT and increasing lymphatic drainage.

Abstract Natural killer T cell lymphoma (NKTCL) is highly aggressive, with advanced stage patients poorly responding to intensive chemotherapy. To explore effective and safe treatment for newly diagnosed advanced stage NKTCL, we conducted a phase II study of anti-metabolic agent pegaspargase plus PD-1 antibody sintilimab (NCT04096690). Twenty-two patients with a median age of 51 years (range, 24–74) were enrolled and treated with induction treatment of pegaspargase 2500 IU/m2 intramuscularly on day 1 and sintilimab 200 mg intravenously on day 2 for 6 cycles of 21 days, followed by maintenance treatment of sintilimab 200 mg for 28 cycles of 21 days. The complete response and overall response rate after induction treatment were 59% (95%CI, 43–79%) and 68% (95%CI, 47–84%), respectively. With a median follow-up of 30 months, the 2 year progression-free and overall survival rates were 68% (95%CI, 45–83%) and 86% (95%CI, 63–95%), respectively. The most frequently grade 3/4 adverse events were neutropenia (32%, n = 7) and hypofibrinogenemia (18%, n = 4), which were manageable and led to no discontinuation of treatment. Tumor proportion score of PD-L1, peripheral blood high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and apolipoprotein A-I correlated with good response, while PD-1 on tumor infiltrating lymphocytes and peripheral Treg cells with poor response to pegaspargase plus sintilimab treatment. In conclusion, the chemo-free regimen pegaspargase plus sintilimab was effective and safe in newly diagnosed, advanced stage NKTCL. Dysregulated lipid profile and immunosuppressive signature contributed to treatment resistance, providing an alternative therapeutic approach dual targeting fatty acid metabolism and CTLA-4 in NKTCL.

247. Process of Extraction Protein from Selenium-enriched Lyophyllum decastes Mycelia and Analysis of Its Amino Acid

The process of extracting seleno-protein from the selenium enriched Lyophyllum decastes mycelia cultured in a 20 L fermentor was optimized, and the effects of selenium enrichment on both types and contents of amino acids in Lyophyllum decastes mycelia were analyzed. Single factor tests and Box-Benhnken central combined response surface test were used to optimize process of extracting seleno-protein from Lyophyllum decastes mycelia. The content of protein was determined by 3,3'-diaminobenzidine spectrophotometry. The types and contents of amino acids in mycelia protein before and after selenium enrichment were compared by means of amino acid analyzer. The results showed that the optimal conditions of extracting seleno-protein from mycelia of Lyophyllum decastes were extraction temperature of 64 ℃, extraction time of 60 min, liquid-solid ratio of 200:1 g/mL, and extraction times of 2. The protein extraction rate was 75.13%, and the content of selenium in mycelia was 63.87 μg/g. The amino acid composition were analyzed by means amino acid score (AAS) and chemical score (CS), and the nutritional value of the protein in the selenium-enriched Lyophyllum decastes mycelia was evaluated. The varieties of amino acids in the selenium-enriched Lyophyllum decastes mycelia were abundant and the content of essential amino acids for human body was 17.20 g/100 g, 19.75% higher than that in the non-selenium-ecriched Lyophyllum decastes mycelia. The ratio of EAA/NEAA was 0.51, close to the recommended value proposed by WHO, and the values of both AAS and CS were close to the those in the model protein. In summary, the protein extraction rate could be improved by optimizing the extraction process, and there was selenium in the protein from selenium-enriched mycelia, which promoted the increase of amino acid content. The nutritional value of protein in selenium-enriched mycelia was higher than that in non-selenium-riched mycelia, and selenium-enrichec mycelia had potential edible and application value.

248. Improving dispersion and tribological performance of MoS2 lubricant additive with the synergistic effects of MSH and amorphous carbon

The poor dispersion stability and susceptibility to oxidation significantly restrict the practical application of MoS2 as a lubricant additive. Here, MoS2 nanocomposite powders with magnesium silicate hydroxide (MSH) reinforcement and amorphous carbon protection were prepared via a straightforward two-step procedure. Detailed studies of the structure, phase composition, tribological properties, and lubrication mechanism of the composite powder have been conducted. The results demonstrated that the morphology of the composite powders was rod-shaped MSH coated with amorphous carbon and layered MoS2. The introduction of amorphous carbon into the MSH/MoS2 composite powders results in enhanced dispersion and a reduction in corrosion to copper sheets. Furthermore, the addition of 1.0 wt% MSH/MoS2/C nanoparticles to PAO-6 led to a decrease in the COF of the lubricating oil from 0.104 to 0.063. Meanwhile, the wear rate of the friction pair decreased from 5.91 × 10−7 mm3 N−1 m−1 to 2.22 × 10−7 mm3 N−1 m−1. The excellent performance could be attributed to the introduction of amorphous carbon effectively prevents the oxidation of MoS2 within the additive, leading to improved friction and wear resistance. The tribo-film, composed of MSH, Fe2O3, FeS, MoS2, graphite, and amorphous carbon, demonstrates remarkable capabilities in reducing friction and wear.

We measure optical colors for the bulges of 312 disk galaxies from the Carnegie-Irvine Galaxy Survey and convert their previously available $R$-band structural parameters to stellar mass parameters. We also measure their average stellar mass surface density in the central 1 kpc ($\Sigma_{1}$). Comparing the mass-based Kormendy relation with the original one based on flux, we find that the majority of the classifications into classical and pseudo bulges, as well as their overall statistical properties, remain essentially unchanged. While the bulge type classifications of the Kormendy relation are robust against stellar population effects, the mass-based classification criteria do produce better agreement between bulge structural properties and their stellar populations. Moreover, the mass-based Kormendy relation reveals a population of ultra-dense bulges akin to high-$z$ compact early-type galaxies, which are otherwise hidden in the original Kormendy relation. These bulges are probably relics of spheroids assembled in the early Universe, although for some we cannot rule out some contribution from secular growth. We present the analytical results of the two-loop amplitudes for hadronic $tW$ production, focusing on the leading color and light fermion-loop contributions. The calculation of the two-loop integrals is performed using the method of canonical differential equations. The results have been expressed in terms of multiple polylogarithms and checked by comparing the infra-red divergences with the predictions from anomalous dimensions. Combined with the one-loop squared amplitudes we have computed previously, we obtain the hard function relevant to a NNLO Monte Carlo calculation. We find that the hard function varies slowly in the region with small top quark velocity but increases dramatically in the region with very large top quark velocity. After phase space integration, the leading color hard function gives an about $5.4\%$ correction to the leading order cross section, while the light fermion loop contributes about $-1.4\%$., Comment: 20 pages, 8 figures
