Abstract Multiple factors regulate glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) secretion, but a group of apparently healthy subjects showed blunted responses of GLP-1 secretion in our previous study. In this study, we examined whether the reduction in GLP-1 secretory capacity is associated with increased extent of coronary artery stenosis in non-diabetic patients. Non-diabetic patients who were admitted for coronary angiography without a history of coronary interventions were enrolled. Coronary artery stenosis was quantified by Gensini score (GS), and GS ≥ 10 was used as an outcome variable based on its predictive value for cardiovascular events. The patients (mean age, 66.5 ± 8.8 years; 71% males, n = 173) underwent oral 75 g-glucose tolerant tests for determination of glucose, insulin and active GLP-1 levels. The area under the curve of plasma active GLP-1 (AUC-GLP-1) was determined as an index of GLP-1 secretory capacity. Stride intervals in human walking fluctuate from one stride to the next, exhibiting statistical persistence. This statistical property is changed by aging, neural disorders, and experimental interventions. It has been hypothesized that the central nervous system is responsible for the statistical persistence. Human walking is a complex phenomenon generated through the dynamic interactions between the central nervous system and the biomechanical system. It has also been hypothesized that the statistical persistence emerges through the dynamic interactions during walking. In particular, a previous study integrated a biomechanical model composed of seven rigid links with a central pattern generator (CPG) model, which incorporated a phase resetting mechanism as sensory feedback as well as feedforward, trajectory tracking, and intermittent feedback controllers, and suggested that phase resetting contributes to the statistical persistence in stride intervals. However, the essential mechanisms remain largely unclear due to the complexity of the neuromechanical model. In this study, we reproduced the statistical persistence in stride intervals using a simplified neuromechanical model composed of a simple compass-type biomechanical model and a simple CPG model that incorporates only phase resetting and a feedforward controller. A lack of phase resetting induced a loss of statistical persistence, as observed for aging, neural disorders, and experimental interventions. These mechanisms were clarified based on the phase response characteristics of our model. These findings provide useful insight into the mechanisms responsible for the statistical persistence of stride intervals in human walking.

Introduction: Fabry disease is a rare, X-linked lysosomal storage disorder that begins in childhood with a wide variety of symptoms, including neuropathic pain, gastrointestinal abnormalities, and skin abnormalities. Despite the substantial impact of these symptoms on children's quality of life (QOL), systematic QOL analysis of Japanese pediatric Fabry disease patients has been limited. Therefore, to evaluate the QOL of Japanese pediatric Fabry disease patients using standardized and disease-specific scales, we used the Fabry-specific Pediatric Health and Pain Questionnaire (FPHPQ), which was developed by the Fabry Outcome Survey. Methods: The FPHPQ was translated in accordance with the Principles of Good Practice for the Translation and Cultural Adaptation Process for Patient-Reported Outcomes. A back-translated version was reviewed twice by the original lead author of FPHPQ to confirm the conceptual equivalence. The questionnaire was then validated by cognitive debriefing, and distributed to pediatric Fabry disease patients in Japan. Results: Questionnaire responses were obtained from eight patients. The mean scores on the FPHPQ were 11.0 (± 11.43) for heat-associated pain, 5.5 (± 4.60) for cold-associated pain, and 14.8 (± 5.97) for abdominal pain and fatigue. In addition, heat-associated pain negatively correlated with physical well-being, whereas cold-associated pain positively correlated with good friendships. Conclusion: We established the Japanese version of the FPHPQ to assess the QOL of pediatric Fabry disease patients. The internal consistency and partial criterion-related validity of the Japanese version were confirmed. Analysis of a larger number of patients should be performed in the future to further validate the outcomes of this study.

The association between immunoregulatory cytokines, such as interleukin (IL)‐10 or IL‐35, and dipeptidyl peptidase‐4 inhibitor (DPP4i)‐related bullous pemphigoid (BP) has not been evaluated. Serum IL‐10 and IL‐35 levels were measured in 39 patients with BP (24 males and 15 females; 6 DPP4i‐related and 33 DPP4i‐unrelated BP patients) and 10 healthy controls. The number of CD26+ cells in the dermis around bulla on sections was counted immunohistochemically for 12 patients (six patients with DPP4i‐related BP and six randomly sampled patients with DPP4i‐unrelated BP). Patients with DPP4i‐related BP had lower levels of serum eosinophils (DPP4i‐related vs. DPP4i‐unrelated BP: 476.1 ± 234.0 vs. 911.3 ± 948.8/μL; p = 0.537) and a higher rate of infiltrating CD26+ cells (32.9 ± 7.1% vs. 15.7 ± 4.4%; p = 0.01). There were no significant differences in serum IL‐10 (6.77 ± 0.24 vs. 6.84 ± 0.20 pg/mL), serum IL‐35 (2.63 ± 0.17 vs. 2.63 ± 0.21 pg/mL), serum anti‐BP180NC16a antibodies (67.31 ± 37.4 vs. 76.18 ± 54.59 U/mL) and Bullous Pemphigoid Disease Area Index before treatment in this study. Serum IL‐10 and IL‐35 levels do not increase in patients with BP and may not be a candidate for a therapeutic target for BP. An increase in CD26+ cells might be associated with DPP4i‐related BP. Photographs and images in sustainability reports can affect readers' impressions of a company. This study conducts an exploratory analysis to investigate the impact of visual content on sustainability reporting and identify corporate reporting strategies. Using image recognition with deep learning technology, we analyse how 1025 global companies, publishing reports in English, incorporate images into their sustainability reports. The study also identifies factors influencing image selection and utilisation, assessing the images based on these factors' impact. Our findings highlight that economic development, cultural preferences and industry type contribute to variations in image usage. Moreover, these influences differ according to disclosure medium (i.e., integrated or sustainability reports), revealing industry‐specific image trends and providing insights into workforce characteristics. Leveraging deep learning, the study delves into facial expressions and demographic differences in the images, providing a comprehensive understanding of corporate communication strategies. Abstract Objectives The diverse treatments available for portal hypertension require specialized knowledge of hemodynamics and include endoscopic treatments, interventional radiology (IVR), and surgery. The Japan Society for Portal Hypertension has developed the skill qualification system (SQS) for portal hypertension and began examination in 2014. Here, the status and validity of the judgment of the SQS examination were evaluated. Methods From 2014 to 2020, 79 applicants were evaluated by the SQS for portal hypertension. Each unedited video submitted as a candidate procedure was evaluated by two judges, and a grade of greater than 70% for the scoring items assessed by the judges was required to pass the examination. Inter‐rater agreement of success/failure between the two judges was investigated by the AC1 coefficient. Results The results of two judges differed for 11 of the 79 videos (13.9%), and five applicants (6.3%) ultimately failed the examination. The percentages of total points received by the applicants with endoscopic treatments, IVR, and surgery were 87.3%, 79.4%, and 80.8%, respectively. There were significant differences in the percentages between endoscopic treatments and IVR (P = 0.0015). The AC1 coefficients were 0.84 for the applicants overall, 0.93 for endoscopic treatments, 0.66 for IVR, and 0.72 for surgery. Similarly, there were significant differences in the AC1 coefficient between endoscopic treatments and IVR (P = 0.021). Conclusions The SQS for portal hypertension of the Japan Society for Portal Hypertension showed high reliability for video assessments by the judges. This system may contribute to the spread and further development of safe and effective treatments for portal hypertension in Japan.
