Abstract

Two new Uromunna species, Uromunna mundongensis sp. n. and Uromunna jejuensis sp. n., are described from the Korean Peninsula, representing the first record of the genus in Korean waters. Genetic analyses using two mitochondrial (COI, Cytb) and one ribosomal (18S rRNA) gene allowed us to confirm high pair-wise interspecific differences with the establishment of reliable barcoding gaps of COI (19.9%) and 18S (0.4%) between the new species. Finally, the phylogenetic relationship between the Uromunna species as well as the position of the genus within the munnoid groups are reconstructed using 18S. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Electric field driven reversible phase transitions in two-dimensional (2D) materials are appealing for their potential in switching applications. Here, we introduce potassium intercalated MnO2 as an exemplary case. We demonstrate the synthesis of large-area single-crystal layered MnO2 via chemical vapor deposition as thin as 5 nm. These crystals are spontaneously intercalated by potassium ions during the synthesis. We showed that the charge transport in 2D K-MnO2 is dominated by motion of hydrated potassium ions in the interlayer space. Under a few volts bias, separation of potassium and the structural water leads to formation of different phases at the opposite terminals, and at larger biases K-MnO2 crystals exhibit reversible layered-to-spinel phase transition. These phase transitions are accompanied by electrical and optical changes in the material. We used the electric field driven ionic motion in K-MnO2 based devices to demonstrate the memristive capabilities of two terminal devices.

Abstract

Seismic performance evaluation is carried out for reinforced concrete bridge columns using both normal (SD400) and high (SD700) yield strength of reinforcement. A total of 12 column specimens are tested under lateral load reversals. Primary design parameters are types of cross-section, yield strength of both longitudinal and lateral reinforcements, longitudinal reinforcement ratio, and vertical spacing of lateral reinforcement. Lateral force-displacement hysteretic response reveals that experimental lateral forces are well above code-specified lateral forces in overall displacement range. Specimens using SD700 show higher lateral force carrying capacity than those with SD400. On the other hand, specimens using SD400 exhibit more ductile behaviour than those with SD700. Deformation capacity is also investigated in terms of displacement ductility and cumulative energy dissipation. Whereas experimental ductility values are in general greater than code-specified values, margin of safety is slightly reduced as yield strength and longitudinal reinforcement ratio increase. 228. Maximum Entropy Optimal Control of Continuous-Time Dynamical Systems

Abstract

Maximum entropy reinforcement learning methods have been successfully applied to a range of challenging sequential decision-making and control tasks. However, most of the existing techniques are designed for discrete-time systems although there has been a growing interest to handle physical processes evolving in continuous time. As a first step toward their extension to continuous-time systems, this article aims to study the theory of maximum entropy optimal control in continuous time. Applying the dynamic programming principle, we derive a novel class of Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman (HJB) equations and prove that the optimal value function of the maximum entropy control problem corresponds to the unique viscosity solution of the HJB equation. We further show that the optimal control is uniquely characterized as Gaussian in the case of control-affine systems and that, for linear-quadratic problems, the HJB equation is reduced to a Riccati equation, which can be used to obtain an explicit expression of the optimal control. The results of our numerical experiments demonstrate the performance of our maximum entropy method in continuous-time optimal control and reinforcement learning problems.

Abstract

The Multiutility Spacecraft Charging Analysis Tool (MUSCAT), a spacecraft charging analysis software, has been developed as a collaboration work between Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and Kyushu Institute of Technology. Laboratory experiments for fundamental code validation were carried out in both facilities' plasma chambers. MUSCAT is a particle simulation code based on particle-in-cell (PIC) and particle tracking (PT) algorithms capable of calculating the floating-body potential of a spacecraft with respect to the plasma potential. Three experiments were carried out regarding spacecraft--plasma interaction phenomena important in LEO and PEO. A Langmuir probe was used to measure the current collection and potential distribution in static plasma to validate the PIC and PT schemes. The floating potential of an object in plasma with an energetic electron component was measured to validate the floating-body calculation as well as the PT scheme. Current collection and potential distribution in the wake structure were measured to validate the PIC and PT scheme in flowing plasma condition. The experimental results and the simulation results agreed very well in all the three experiments, validating the accuracy of the MUSCAT solver. Abstract

International audience; We present the conductance limit of the voltage-conductance model with random firing voltage when conductance dynamics are slower than the voltage dynamics. The result of the limiting procedure is a transport/Fokker-Planck equation for conduc-tance variable with a non-linear drift which depends on the total firing rate. We analyze the asymptotic behavior of the limit equation under two possible rescalings which relate the voltage scale, the conductance scale and the firing rate. We provide the sufficient framework in which the limiting procedure can be rigorously justified. Moreover, we also suggest a sufficient condition on the parameters and firing distribution in the limiting conductance equation under which we are able to obtain a unique stationary state and its asymptotic stability. Finally, we provide several numerical illustrations supporting the analytic results.

239. The Effectiveness of Context-based Change Application on Automatic Program Repair

Abstract

An Automatic Program Repair (APR) technique is an implementation of a repair model to fix a given bug by modifying program behavior. Recently, repair models which collect source code and code changes from software history and use such collected resources for patch generation became more popular. Collected resources are used to expand the patch search space and to increase the probability that correct patches for bugs are included in the space. However, it is also revealed that navigation on such expanded patch search space is difficult due to the sparseness of correct patches in the space. In this study, we evaluate the effectiveness of Context-based Change Application (CCA) technique on change selection, fix location selection and change concretization, which are the key aspects of navigating patch search space. CCA collects abstract subtree changes and their AST contexts, and applies them to fix locations only if their contexts are matched. CCA repair model can address both search space expansion and navigation issues, by expanding search space with collected changes while narrowing down search areas in the search space based on contexts. Since CCA applies changes to a fix location only if their contexts are matched, it only needs to consider the same context changes for each fix location. Also, if there is no change with the same context as a fix location, this fix location can be ignored since it means that past patches did not modify such locations. In addition, CCA uses fine-grained changes preserving changed code structures, but normalizing user-defined names. Hence change concretization can be simply done by replacing normalized names with concrete names available in buggy code. We evaluated CCA’s effectiveness with over 54K unique collected changes (221K in total) from about 5K human-written patches.
