Abstract We examined seismic moment release rates as estimated from deep low-frequency tremors at episodic tremor and slip (ETS) zones on the plate interface in the Nankai subduction zone. Excluding periods with long-term slow slip events, we observe no clear temporal variation in the seismic moment release rate in the Tokai, the northern Kii, or Shikoku regions. We also find no variation in the seismic moment release rate related to the 2011 Tohoku earthquake in the southern or central Kii region. These findings imply that the 2011 Tohoku earthquake has not affected slow slip activities in the Nankai subduction zone. For the southern and central Kii regions, a long-term decrease in the seismic moment release rate with time is apparent, irrespective of the occurrence of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake, suggesting that frictional properties on slip planes at the ETS zone on the plate interface have varied over time.

In cognitive task execution, retrieval processes transfer memories from long-term storage to working memory, comprising three short-term memories-phonological loop, visuospatial sketchpad, and episodic buffer-controlled by a short-term-memory central executive. The phonological loop and visuospatial sketchpad are prominent in verbal and visuospatial information processing, respectively. Individuals differ in how they retrieve the same information. Discrimination between verbal or visuospatial memory retrieval by monitoring central executive activation is useful. Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) was used to assess blood volume and prefrontal lobe brain activation. Using a novel approach, blood volume during memory retrieval was obtained using fNIRS. To eliminate other factors not related to the central executive activation, a base period was observed. Dynamic range was calculated for both memory retrieval and base periods, and differences obtained at ten positions within the prefrontal lobe were used as features to discriminate between verbal and visuospatial retrieval. For discrimination, k-nearest neighbor (kNN) and support vector machine (SVM) with different kernels were applied. Our method was tested on participants in verbal/visuospatial memory retrieval experiments. As the result, accuracy, positive predictive values, and negative predictive values of kNN and SVM were 1, which indicated that the proposed method successfully discriminated between verbal/visuospatial memory retrieval through prefrontal lobe blood volume observation.

We investigate self-dualities in three-dimensional N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories. The electric and magnetic theories share the same gauge group. The examples include SU(2N), SO(7) and SO(8) gauge theories with various matter contents. In some examples, the duality exchanges the role of the baryon and Coulomb branch operators. In other examples, the Coulomb branch operator becomes an elementary field on the dual side. These self-dualities in turn teach us a correct quantum structure of the Coulomb moduli space of vacua. Some dualities exhibit symmetry enhancement.

Abstract We present various confinement phases in three-dimensional N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 2 Spin(N) gauge theories with vector and spinor matters. The quantum Coulomb branch in the moduli space of vacua is drastically modified when the rank of the gauge group and the matter contents are changed. In many examples, the Coulomb branch is one- or two-dimensional but its interpretation varies. In some examples, the Coulomb branch becomes three-dimensional and we need to introduce a “dressed” Coulomb branch operator.

Background: Decision-making and selection of treatment modalities for newly diagnosed prostate cancer (PCa) are often determined by risk stratification using grade group (GG), prostate-specific antigen (PSA), and clinical stage. The discrepancies between needle biopsy (NB) and radical prostatectomy (RP) specimens often occur because of the sampling errors in NB or multifocal features of PCa. Thus, we aimed to estimate the preoperative clinical factors for predicting GG upgrading after robot-assisted RP (RARP). Methods: In this retrospective study, we reviewed the clinical and pathological records of patients who underwent RARP at Gifu University Hospital. We focused on patients with organ-confined PCa who had not received neoadjuvant therapy prior to RARP. The primary endpoint was identified as the predictive factor of GG upgrading for RARP specimens compared to those of NB specimens. Results: Eighty-one patients were included in this study. The enrolled patients were divided into two groups: those who had GG upgrading for RARP specimens (the NB upgrade group) or those who did not have GG upgrading (the no upgrade group). The median age of all patients was 70 years, and the median body mass index (BMI) was 22.9 kg/m2. The median neutrophil count was 3720/μL, lymphocyte count was 1543/μL, and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) was 2.24. In univariate analysis, BMI, PSA, neutrophil count, and NLR were significantly associated with GG upgrading in RARP specimens compared to NB specimens. BMI and NLR were identified as strong predictive factors for GG upgrading in RARP specimens in the multivariate analysis. Conclusions: Although this study’s small number of enrolled patients was a vital weakness, BMI and NLR might have been significantly correlated with GG upgrading for RP specimens compared with NB specimens. Therefore, BMI and NLR may have potential benefits for newly diagnosed patients with PCa in terms of decision-making and the selection of treatment modalities.

Background and Objectives: We aimed to investigate the rate of incidence and risk factors of post-transplant urinary tract infection (UTI) in patients receiving kidney transplantation (KT) at our institution. Materials and Methods: A retrospective cohort study was carried out on patients who underwent KT for end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) from January 2008 to December 2021 at Gifu University Hospital. UTI was defined as the existence of bacterial and/or fungal infection in urine with ≥105 colony-forming units/mL, with or without urinary and/or systemic symptoms of UTI. Patients were divided into two groups: those with UTI after KT (UTI group) and those without UTI (non-UTI group). The primary endpoint of this study was the relationship between covariates and UTI after KT. Results: Two hundred and forty patients with ESKD received KT at Gifu University Hospital. Thirty-four participants developed UTI after surgery, and the most common pathogen was Escherichia coli. At the end of the follow-up, graft loss was observed in six patients (2.5%), independent of UTI episodes. In the multivariate analysis, diabetes mellitus (DM) was statistically associated with post-transplant UTI in kidney transplant recipients. Conclusions: Preoperative serum glucose control in patients with DM may have a crucial role in preventing UTI and preserving renal function after KT.

The treatment options are currently limited, and the oncological outcomes remain unclear, for patients with metastatic urothelial carcinoma (mUC) with or without third-line systemic therapy. We aimed to evaluate the oncological outcomes in real-world daily clinical practice after platinum-based chemotherapy followed by pembrolizumab for mUC. This retrospective, multicenter cohort study included patients with mUC who received second-line pembrolizumab in Japan. The patients were divided into the treatment group (those who received third-line treatment) and the BSC group (those who did not receive other treatments). The primary endpoint of this study was to evaluate the oncological outcomes. Of 126 patients enrolled in this study, 40 received third-line therapy. The median follow-up period was 8.0 months. The median overall survival (OS) times were nine months in the BSC group and 17 months in the treatment group (p < 0.001). The median progression-free survival (PFS) times were 4 months in the BSC group and 14 months in the treatment group (p < 0.001). In the multivariate analysis, performance status and liver metastasis were significantly associated with OS. Third-line therapy may have clinical potential advantages for improving the oncological outcomes in patients with mUC.

Abstract Background Sarcomatoid renal cell carcinoma (SRCC) is associated with poor prognosis. Although there is no standard treatment for SRCC, recent studies have reported the effectiveness of immune checkpoint inhibitors. Case An 82‐year‐old Japanese man presented to our hospital with an incidental right renal tumor. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) showed an exophytic tumor in the right kidney with suspected right iliopsoas muscle invasion. Laparoscopic right radical nephrectomy was performed. Histopathological diagnosis revealed a clear cell RCC with a spindle cell carcinoma component. CT performed 3 months after surgery revealed multiple bilateral lung metastases and local recurrence. Although the patient received tyrosine‐kinase inhibitors for treating multiple metastases, the lung metastases continued to gradually increase, and peritonitis carcinomatosis was observed. Thus, the patient was intravenously administered nivolumab once every 2 weeks. After nivolumab administration, lung metastases, local recurrence, and peritonitis carcinomatosis gradually reduced. After 20 months of nivolumab treatment, the patient achieved a complete response of multiple metastases on CT. Conclusion Nivolumab may be used as a treatment option for sarcomatoid renal cell carcinoma with multiple metastases.

213. Prediction of Second Language Proficiency Based on Electroencephalographic Signals Measured While Listening to Natural Speech

This study had two goals: to clarify the relationship between electroencephalographic (EEG) features estimated while non-native speakers listened to a second language (L2) and their proficiency in L2 determined by a conventional paper test and to provide a predictive model for L2 proficiency based on EEG features. We measured EEG signals from 205 native Japanese speakers, who varied widely in English proficiency while they listened to natural speech in English. Following the EEG measurement, they completed a conventional English listening test for Japanese speakers. We estimated multivariate temporal response functions separately for word class, speech rate, word position, and parts of speech. We found significant negative correlations between listening score and 17 EEG features, which included peak latency of early components (corresponding to N1 and P2) for both open and closed class words and peak latency and amplitude of a late component (corresponding to N400) for open class words. On the basis of the EEG features, we generated a predictive model for Japanese speakers’ English listening proficiency. The correlation coefficient between the true and predicted listening scores was 0.51. Our results suggest that L2 or foreign language ability can be assessed using neural signatures measured while listening to natural speech, without the need of a conventional paper test.

Background: Disease-related anorexia-cachexia is associated with poor prognosis of patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD) or cancer. Growth differentiation factor-15 (GDF-15) has emerged as a central regulator of appetite and body weight. However, the exact role of GDF-15 in lean patients has not been elucidated.Aim: Our aim is to evaluate whether the association of GDF-15 with mortality, including cancer death, differs according to body mass index (BMI) level.Methods and Results: We collected blood samples from 4,061 patients with CV risk factors who were enrolled in the nationwide practice-based J-HOP (Japan Morning Surge-Home Blood Pressure) study. Serum GDF-15 levels were determined by immunoassay analysis. During a mean follow-up period of 6.6 years, we observed 174 (6.7/1000 person-year) all-cause deaths, 68 (2.6/1000 person-year) cancer deaths, and 56 (2.2/1000 person-year) CV deaths. Patients were stratified according to the cut-points of GDF-15 at 1,200 ng/L and BMI at 22.5 and 25.0 kg/m2. The association between the GDF-15/BMI based study groups and each outcome was evaluated by Cox-proportional hazard models with adjustment for established risk factors. Introduction The aim was to investigate the relationship of full-mouth inflammatory parameters of periodontal disease with diabetes and obesity.Research design and methods This cross-sectional study conducted diabetes-related examinations and calculated periodontal inflamed and epithelial surface area (PISA and PESA) of 71 Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes. Multiple linear regression analyses were performed to evaluate associations between PISA or PESA and diabetes and obesity parameters.Results Median value of body mass index (BMI), hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) level, fasting plasma glucose (FPG) level, and visceral fat area (VFA) were 25.7 kg/m2, 9.1%, 151 mg/L, and 93.3 cm2, respectively. PISA and PESA were significantly associated with HbA1c after adjusting for age, sex, BMI, smoking status, and full-mouth plaque control level (PISA: coefficient=38.1, 95% CI 8.85 to 67.29, p=0.001; PESA: coefficient=66.89, 95% CI 21.44 to 112.34, p=0.005). PISA was also significantly associated with the highest FPG tertile (>175 mg/dL) after adjusting for confounders (coefficient=167.0, 95% CI 48.60 to 285.4, p=0.006). PISA and PESA were not significantly associated with BMI or VFA.Conclusion PISA was associated with FPG and HbA1c, but not with obesity parameters, independent from confounders such as full-mouth plaque control level in patients with type 2 diabetes.

High reliability and availability are primary goals for the operation of particle accelerators, especially for accelerator-driven subcritical systems (ADS). ADSs employ high-power beams for the transmutation of minor actinide; as a result, the amount and the radiotoxicity of the nuclear waste are considerably reduced. To this end, the Japan Atomic Energy Agency is designing a 30-MW continuous wave (cw) superconducting proton linear accelerator (linac) that supplies neutrons to an 800-MW subcritical reactor by a spallation process. The major challenge for an ADS linac is the strict control of the beam trip duration and its frequency to avoid thermal stress in the subcritical reactor structures. The maximum allowed beam trips for failures longer than a few seconds are estimated to be far below the rate achieved in current accelerators. Thus, we implemented a combination of hot standby and local compensation that enables a fast beam recovery. This work comprehensively investigated the tolerance of our linac lattice for the local compensations for failures in superconducting cavities and magnets. This scheme includes simultaneous compensation of multiple cavities in independent and same cryomodules that significantly enhance the reliability of the linac. The retuned schemes present acceptable beam performance to guarantee the integrity of the linac and the beam transport to the target; moreover, they satisfy the beam stability in the beam window. In addition, the readjusted elements are subjected to moderate stress to ensure a sustainable operation. This manuscript reports the beam dynamics results toward fulfilling the high reliability demanded by an ADS linac.

We focused on the therapeutic effect of pembrolizumab for metastatic urothelial carcinoma (mUC) and evaluated predictive factors for improving clinical outcomes. We conducted a retrospective multicenter cohort study of patients with mUC who received pembrolizumab. The endpoint was to evaluate the association between clinicopathological features and oncological outcomes. A total of 160 patients were enrolled in this study and were divided into two groups: the responder and the non-responder group, according to the best response. They were followed up for a median period of 10 months. The median overall (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) in this study were 17 and 4 months, respectively. The responder group did not achieve median OS and it was 10 months in the non-responder group (p < 0.001). Similarly, the responder group did not achieve PFS, and it was 2 months in the non-responder group (p < 0.001). Regarding the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) after two courses of administration of pembrolizumab, patients with NLR < 3.24 had significantly better oncological outcomes than those with NLR ≥ 3.24. Multivariate analysis showed a significant association between NLR after two courses of pembrolizumab and OS. Therefore, the absolute value of NLR after two courses of pembrolizumab was a significant predictive factor for oncological outcomes.

Background: The preoperative diagnosis of pulmonary sclerosing pneumocytoma (PSP) is complicated since PSP has several histological structural patterns in the same neoplasm; hence, it is sometimes pathologically misdiagnosed as adenocarcinoma or carcinoid. In recent years, with the prevalence of transbronchial cryobiopsy (TBLC), we are able to obtain larger specimens than previously. However, to date, there have been no reports describing PSP diagnosed using TBLC. Case reports: A 43-year-old man was referred to our hospital for an abnormal lesion in the left lung discovered on routine health examination. A computed tomography scan of the chest revealed a 14-mm heterogeneous round nodule with surrounding ground-glass opacity in the left lower lobe. The tumor size increased to 18 mm in three weeks, and he developed bloody sputum. TBLC was performed using radial endobronchial ultrasonography and fluoroscopy. An occlusion balloon and prophylactic epinephrine were used to prevent severe bleeding. Histologically, epithelioid cells with solid proliferation, various papillary lesions, and hemosiderin-laden histiocytes were observed. Immunohistochemical staining revealed the histiocytes positive for thyroid transcription factor-1 and vimentin, and the type II pneumocyte-like-cells positive for cytokeratin 7. The tumor was preoperatively diagnosed as a PSP; the patient underwent left basal segmentectomy and consequently, a final diagnosed of PSP was formulated. Conclusion: We report the first case of PSP preoperatively diagnosed using TBLC. Therefore, cryobiopsy could be beneficial in the preoperative diagnosis of PSP.

A 45-year-old Japanese man visited a community hospital with the chief complaint of asymptomatic macrohematuria. He was diagnosed with muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC), and he received intra-arterial chemotherapy followed by radiation therapy at another institution. Twenty-eight months after chemoradiotherapy, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed MIBC recurrence. After neoadjuvant chemotherapy, robot-assisted radical cystectomy was performed. Pathological examination indicated high-grade urothelial carcinoma with lymphovascular invasion, a positive surgical margin, and skip lesions of cancer cells in the perivesical adipose tissue. Three months after surgery, he was brought to our hospital in an ambulance with the chief complaint of rotatory vertigo and was speaking inarticulately. Head and whole spine MRI revealed meningeal metastasis along both the vestibulocochlear nerves and cauda equina. Analysis of the cerebrospinal fluid revealed malignant cells. The patient was diagnosed with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis originating from the MIBC. He received whole-brain radiotherapy followed by the administration of pembrolizumab. Unfortunately, the patient’s condition quickly deteriorated, and he died of cancer 4 months after surgery.

A 73-year-old man visited our hospital with chief complaints of fever of unknown origin and bilateral shoulder and hip joint pain. He was initially diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR). Although the patient was treated with prednisolone 15 mg/day, his PMR-related symptoms did not improve. Further examination was performed as the patient was suspected of having paraneoplastic syndrome. Assessment results showed prostate cancer without metastases. After undergoing robot-assisted radical prostatectomy, the patient’s PMR-related symptoms dramatically improved. Hence, the prednisolone dose was decreased to 4 mg/day. PCa may have triggered the development of PMR through the activation of immune-mediated systemic inflammatory responses.

We report a case of cardiac arrest, which occurred during C1 laminectomy for irreducible atlantoaxial subluxation, with return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) upon interruption of the laminectomy. A 60-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis presented with neck pain, bilateral finger numbness, and bladder-rectal disturbance. Simple radiograph images showed that the atlantodental interval (ADI) was enlarged to 8 mm, and magnetic resonance imaging revealed severe spinal stenosis at C1. She was diagnosed with cervical spondylotic myelopathy due to atlantoaxial subluxation. Cardiac arrest occurred twice during the C1 laminectomy and occipito-cervical fusion (Occ-C3), and ROSC occurred without any treatment. There was no postoperative worsening of neurological symptoms, and the improvement of sensory and motor palsy was favorable. The pathogenic mechanism was presumed to be trigeminocardiac reflex. Cardiac arrest during upper cervical spine surgery is an important intraoperative complication of which operators should be made aware.

Patients with asthma exhale high concentrations of nitric oxide (NO), making the measurement of NO clinically important. Although we previously developed a 2-phenyl-4,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazoline-3-oxide-1-oxyl (PTIO) chip that relied on the reaction between NO gas and PTIO in the chip, the sensitivity and accuracy were insufficient for measuring NO in air exhaled by asthma patients. In this study, we focus on the conversion of NO to NO2 in the reaction with PTIO, and devise a new method to measure the converted NO2 using our previously developed NO2 analytical chip. NO is converted to NO2 in the PTIO chip and immediately released upon exposure to the atmosphere. This released NO2 is trapped on the adjacent NO2 analytical chip and reacts with diazo-coupling reagents to form an azo dye; a linear relationship was identified between the NO concentration and the change in absorbance at 525 nm due to production of the azo dye. The NO concentration could be measured in the 0−142 ppb range with a maximum error of ± 10 ppb at 142 ppb using the devised method, demonstrating sufficient sensitivity and accuracy for measuring NO in exhaled air. Furthermore, we successfully measured NO in the exhaled air of seven healthy adults, and detected ~19 ppb of NO, thus illustrating its feasibility for clinical use.

Le diverticule de Zenker est une pathologie rare et généralement bénigne. Sa présence chez le malade en hémodialyse a des implications thérapeutiques et pronostiques et constitue un facteur de risque de morbi-mortalité du fait de ses complications comme la dénutrition protéino-énergétique et la pneumopathie. Nous rapportons le cas d'un diverticule de Zenker diagnostiqué chez une patiente hémodialysée chronique. Il s'agissait d'une patiente âgée de 61 ans, qui était reçue pour une hémorragie digestive haute accompagnée d'une dysphagie. L'examen physique trouvait une altération de l'état général avec une perte de poids estimée à 5 kg en 3 mois. Le transit œsogastroduodénal objectivait un refoulement de la portion cervicale de l'œsophage par une volumineuse image d'addition hétérogène dont le pôle supérieur se situe au niveau de la jonction pharyngo-œsophagienne. Le diagnostic d'un diverticule de Zenker avait été retenu. Une diverticulectomie par voie cervicale externe avait été réalisé. La patiente est décédée dans les suites postopératoires précoces d'une pneumopathie d'inhalation. Le diverticule de Zenker est une pathologie rare qui est généralement bénigne mais sa présence chez le malade hémodialysé chronique augmente sa morbi-mortalité.

Carbon fiber (CF) reinforced polyether ether ketone (PEEK) laminates are applied to the members of transportation structures exposed to severe conditions, because carbon fibers and PEEK have excellent heat-resistant and chemical stability. Therefore, it is important to ensure the long-term reliability of CF/PEEK laminates and evaluate the propagation of transverse cracks, which are generally the initial damage incurred by multidirectional laminates under fatigue loading. This study evaluated the detailed mechanism of transverse crack propagation toward the thickness direction in CF/PEEK quasi-isotropic laminates under fatigue loading. The transverse crack growth was observed using the replica method, and the energy release rate associated with the transverse crack propagation toward the thickness direction was calculated using a three-dimensional virtual crack closure-integral method. Thus, it was found that the transverse crack propagated in a stable manner until it passed through the 90° layer toward the thickness direction. Additionally, it was found that the crack growth rate increased in the range wherein the crack length was short, and maintained an approximately constant growth rate in the middle stage of propagation. According to Paris’ law, when the crack depth was relatively shallow, the experimental results are approximately consistent with the analytical evaluation results for the energy release rate associated with the transverse crack propagation toward the thickness direction. Finally, it is also concluded that the high ductility of the PEEK resin and good fiber/matrix interfacial property of the CF/PEEK laminates are important influencing factors for the stable and characteristic crack propagation observed in the experiment.

The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between motor imagery (MI) assessment (ability and quality) and neurophysiological assessment [transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)-induced motor-evoked potentials (MEPs)] during combined MI and action observation (AO; MI + AO). Sixteen subjects completed an MI task playing the piano with both hands, and neurophysiological assessment was performed during the MI task. The Movement Imagery Questionnaire-Revised was adopted to evaluate MI ability, while the visual analogue scale (VAS) was adopted to evaluate MI quality. A TMS pulse was delivered during the MI task, and MEPs were subsequently recorded in the abductor pollicis brevis (APB). We found a significant positive correlation between the VAS score and the TMS-induced MEPs (ρ = 0.497, p < 0.001). These findings suggest that the VAS score could potentially reflect the corticospinal excitability during MI + AO, particularly in complex MI tasks.

We report a fatal case of pembrolizumab-induced myasthenia gravis and myocarditis in a patient with metastatic bladder cancer. A 77-year-old man was aware of eye ptosis and diplopia after three weeks from first infusion of pembrolizumab, an anti-programmed cell death protein 1 monoclonal antibodies. He was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, because he was positive on the edrophonium test and acetylcholine receptor antibody. As his echocardiography also revealed diffuse loss in wall motion with ejection fraction 29%, he was strongly suspected myocarditis. Although he was treated with prednisone and intravenous immunoglobulin, he was suddenly in cardiac arrest and passed away.

We study low-energy dynamics of three-dimensional N=2 SU(N) “chiral” gauge theories with F fundamental and F¯ anti-fundamental matters without a Chern–Simons term. Compared to a naive semi-classical analysis of the Coulomb branch, its quantum structure is highly richer than expected due to so-called “dressed” Coulomb branch (monopole) operators. We propose dualities and confinement phases for the “chiral” SU(N) theories. The theories with N>F>F¯ exhibit spontaneous supersymmetry breaking. The very many Coulomb branch operators generally remain exactly massless and are non-trivially mapped under the dualities. Some dualities lead to a novel duality between SU(N) and USp(2N˜) theories. For the 3d N=2 SU(2) gauge theory with 2F doublets, there are generally F+2 “chiral” and “non-chiral” dual descriptions.

Introduction: Gitelman syndrome (GS) is a tubulopathy exhibited by salt loss. GS cases are most often diagnosed by chance blood test. Aside from that, some cases are also diagnosed from tetanic symptoms associated with hypokalemia and/or hypomagnesemia or short stature. As for complications, thyroid dysfunction and short stature are known, but the incidence rates for these complications have not yet been elucidated. In addition, no genotype–phenotype correlation has been identified in GS. Methods: We examined the clinical characteristics and genotype–phenotype correlation in genetically proven GS cases with homozygous or compound heterozygous variants in SLC12A3 (n = 185). Results: In our cohort, diagnostic opportunities were by chance blood tests (54.7%), tetany (32.6%), or short stature (7.2%). Regarding complications, 16.3% had short stature, 13.7% had experienced febrile convulsion, 4.3% had thyroid dysfunction, and 2.5% were diagnosed with epilepsy. In one case, QT prolongation was detected. Among 29 cases with short stature, 10 were diagnosed with growth hormone (GH) deficiency and GH replacement therapy started. Interestingly, there was a strong correlation in serum magnesium levels between cases with p.Arg642Cys and/or p.Leu858His and cases without these variants, which are mutational hotspots in the Japanese population (1.76 mg/dl vs. 1.43 mg/dl, P < 0.001). Conclusion: This study has revealed, for the first time, clinical characteristics in genetically proven GS cases in the Japanese population, including prevalence of complications. Patients with hypokalemia detected by chance blood test should have gene tests performed. Patients with GS need attention for developing extrarenal complications, such as short stature, febrile convulsion, thyroid dysfunction, epilepsy, or QT prolongation. We propose a “chiral” version of Kutasov-Schwimmer duality in a 3d N=2 SU(N) gauge theory with F fundamental matters, F¯ anti-fundamental matters and an adjoint matter X with a tree-level superpotential W=trXk+1. The theory exhibits a rich structure of the baryonic and (dressed) Coulomb branch operators. At first sight, the duality seems incorrect due to a mismatch of the anti-baryonic branch of the moduli space under the duality transformation. The duality well works by realizing that the anti-baryonic operators are identified with some of the dressed Coulomb branch corresponding to non-abelian monopoles. This generalizes the SU(N) “chiral” duality with (anti-)fundamental matters, which we previously proposed.

Background and objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the association between warm ischemic time (WIT) and postoperative renal function using Trifecta achievement in patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) who underwent robotic (RAPN) or laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (LPN). Materials and Methods: We conducted a retrospective multicenter cohort study of patients with RCC who underwent RAPN (RAPN group) or LPN (LPN group) at three institutions in Japan between March 2012 and October 2021. The primary endpoints were the rate of trifecta achievement in both surgical techniques and the association between WIT and recovery of postoperative renal function surgical outcomes. Results: The rate of trifecta achievement was significantly lower in patients with LPN than in those with RAPN (p < 0.001). WIT ≥ 25 min were 18 patients (18%) in the RAPN group and 89 (52.7%) in the LPN group. The postoperative estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was almost the same. However, 13 patients (7.7%) had a decreased in eGFR ≥ 15% at 3 months after LPN compared with the preoperative eGFR. Conclusions: The rate of trifecta achievement in the RAPN group was significantly higher than that in the LPN group. However, eGFR was identified as relatively better preserved after PN in both groups.

Objectives: Cathepsin K is expressed by osteoclasts and synovial fibroblasts and degrades key components of bone and cartilage. Inhibition of cathepsin K protease activity may be beneficial for the prevention of bone erosion and cartilage degradation in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) rat model is well established for studying the pathology and treatment of RA. We investigated the effect of ONO-KK1-300-01, a cathepsin K inhibitor (CKI), on arthritis and bone mineral density (BMD) in rats with CIA. Methods: Seven-month-old female Sprague Dawley rats were divided into 5 groups: rats without CIA (CNT); CIA rats that underwent ovariectomy (OVX) and were treated with CKI; CIA rats that underwent OVX and were treated with vehicle (Veh); CIA rats that underwent sham surgery and were treated with CKI; and CIA rats that underwent sham surgery and were treated with Veh. CKI was orally administered at a dose of 15 mg/kg, thus initiating collagen sensitization, until death at 4 weeks. We evaluated hind paw thickness and the arthritis score every week until death. Radiographs of the resected left foot were obtained with a soft X-ray apparatus. Destruction of bone and cartilage was classified and scored as previously described by Engelhardt et al. BMD was measured by bone densitometry at the halfway point between the distal metaphysis and the diaphysis of the resected right femur. We also performed histomorphometry of the proximal left tibia, histological evaluation of arthritis, and a bone strength test. Results: CKI administration significantly reduced hind paw thickness and the arthritis score, and prevented a decrease in BMD. The radiographic score was significantly lower in the CKI group than in the Veh group. In the histomorphometric analysis, bone-resorption parameters were significantly lower in the CKI groups than in the Veh groups. CKI significantly inhibited synovial proliferation in the CIA rats. In the bone strength test, the ultimate stress was significantly higher in the CKI groups than in the Veh groups. Conclusion: Our findings indicate that cathepsin K inhibitors may inhibit systemic and local bone loss, ameliorate arthritis, and attenuate the decrease of bone strength in an animal model of arthritis. Viral infections in patients with post-kidney transplantation are often difficult to diagnose as well as treat. We herein report three cases with severe viral infections after kidney transplantation. All their causative pathogens could be detected promptly by polymerase chain reaction and flow cytometry during the early stages of infection. These examinations would also be of great use to monitor therapeutic responses and disease activity. It is indeed true that no specific treatment is available for most of the viral infections, but we should be aware that some infections, such as Epstein-Barr virus infection, can be treatable with prompt and specific treatment, such as rituximab.

Two captive cheetahs from a zoo in Japan died of a severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome–like illness. Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus, an endemic tickborne phlebovirus, was detected systemically with secretion of infectious viruses into the saliva. These cases highlight the risk for exposure of captive animals to endemic arthropodborne pathogens.

Abstract We study three-dimensional N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 2 Spin(7) gauge theories with N S spinorial matters and with N f vectorial matters. The quantum Coulomb branch on the moduli space of vacua is one- or two-dimensional depending on the matter contents. For particular values of (N f , N S ), we find s-confinement phases and derive exact superpotentials. The 3d dynamics of Spin(7) is connected to the 4d dynamics via KK-monopoles. Along the Higgs branch of the Spin(7) theories, we obtain 3d N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 2 G 2 or SU(4) theories and some of them lead to new s-confinement phases. As a check of our analysis we compute superconformal indices for these theories.

Phosphorus- and boron-doped silicon nanocrystals (Si NCs) embedded in silicon oxide matrix can be fabricated by plasma-enhanced chemical vapour deposition (PECVD). Conventionally, SiH4 and N2O are used as precursor gasses, which inevitably leads to the incorporation of ≈10 atom % nitrogen, rendering the matrix a silicon oxynitride. Alternatively, SiH4 and O2 can be used, which allows for completely N-free silicon oxide. In this work, we investigate the properties of B- and P-incorporating Si NCs embedded in pure silicon oxide compared to silicon oxynitride by atom probe tomography (APT), low-temperature photoluminescence (PL), transient transmission (TT), and current–voltage (I–V) measurements. The results clearly show that no free carriers, neither from P- nor from B-doping, exist in the Si NCs, although in some configurations charge carriers can be generated by electric field ionization. The absence of free carriers in Si NCs ≤5 nm in diameter despite the presence of P- or B-atoms has severe implications for future applications of conventional impurity doping of Si in sub-10 nm technology nodes.

A 90‐year‐old woman was admitted to our hospital with suspected lung adenocarcinoma. Preoperative three‐dimensional reconstructed computed tomography revealed displacement of the anterior segmental bronchus (B3) arising from the right middle lobe bronchus with absence of the fissure between the right upper and middle lobes. A complete thoracoscopic right upper lobectomy was successfully performed. It is crucial to identify such anomalies prior to lung resection to avoid intraoperative complications during thoracoscopic lobectomy or segmentectomy. Additionally, intravenous indocyanine green with a fluorescence system was useful to identify the proper interlobar fissure boundary intraoperatively. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of thoracoscopic lobectomy for lung cancer with displaced B3 and absence of the interlobar fissure to be performed by applying the intravenous indocyanine green method.

Abstract We study a three-dimensional N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 2 supersymmetric G 2 gauge theory with and without fundamental matters. We find that a classical Coulomb branch of the moduli space of vacua is partly lifted by monopole-instantons and the quantum Coulomb moduli space would be described by a complex one-dimensional space. Depending on the number of the matters in a fundamental representation, the low-energy dynamics of the theory shows various phases like s-confinement or quantum merging of the Coulomb and the Higgs branches. We also investigate superconformal indices as an independent check of our analysis.

Networked robotics involves a collection of robots working together to perform complex tasks, such as search and rescue task in disaster management. Because such tasks are beyond the capacity of a single powerful robot, networked robotics has been widely researched. However, the modes of cooperation in traditional networked robotics have been restricted by the inherent physical constraint that all computations are performed in the robotic network, with knowledge sharing being limited to the collective storage in the network. Cloud robotics, which allows robots to benefit from the rich storage, computation, and communication resources of modern data centers, is widely accepted as a promising approach to efficient robot cooperation in applications, such as disaster management. In this paper, we study robotic cooperation in cloud robotics. We first give a conceptual view of the nature of this cooperation. We then propose three novel robotic cooperation frameworks for cloud robotics: robotic knowledge sharing cooperation, robotic physical-task cooperation, and robotic computation task cooperation. Finally, we identify several critical challenges, and illustrate the potential benefits of robotic cooperation in cloud robotics.

Background and Objectives: In this study, we aimed to evaluate predictive factors of postoperative fever (POF) after ureterorenoscopic lithotripsy (URSL). Materials and Methods: A total of 594 consecutive patients who underwent URSL for urinary stone disease at Gifu Municipal Hospital and Chuno Kosei Hospital between April 2016 and January 2021 were enrolled in this study. In all patients, antibiotics were routinely administered intraoperatively and the next day after surgery. We used rigid and/or flexible ureterorenoscopes depending on the stone location for URSL. Stones were fragmented using a holmium: YAG laser. The fragments of the stone were manually removed as much as possible using a stone basket catheter. A ureteral stent was placed at the end of the surgery in all cases. Results: The median age and body mass index (BMI) in all patients were 62 years and 23.8 kg/m2, respectively. The median operation duration was 52 min. The most common URSL-related complication was POF in 28 (4.7%) patients. In these patients, the rates of antibiotic administration and ureteral stent insertion before surgery were significantly higher than in those without POF. In multivariate analysis, BMI was associated with POF after URSL. There were no significant differences in predicting POF after surgery in patients who had bacteriuria or received antibiotics before surgery. Conclusions: A low BMI was significantly associated with POF after URS or URSL.

242. Solitary Fibrous Tumor of the Prostate: A Case Report and Literature Review

Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) usually occur in the pleura and account for two-thirds of all cases; however, SFTs occurring in the prostate are extremely rare. Approximately 25 cases have been reported in the literature to date. This study reports the case of a 43-year-old man referred to our hospital with the chief complaint of a pelvic tumor after careful examination. The tumor marker levels were within normal limits. T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging revealed a tumor, demonstrating primarily low signal intensity. It showed a capsule-like rim at the left lobe of the prostate, suggesting that the tumor was partially invading the rectal wall. Histopathological examination of needle-core biopsies showed spindle cell neoplasm with small and fusiform cells, strongly expressing signal transducer and activator of transcription 6 (STAT6) with a ramifying vascular network. Therefore, the clinical diagnosis of the patient was SFT of the prostate and robot-assisted radical prostatectomy was performed. Histopathological examination revealed that the tumor was composed of spindle cells with patternless and staghorn patterns. Immunohistochemical analysis showed a strong expression of STAT6. Furthermore, the tumor was partially positive for CD34. Therefore, the patient was diagnosed with SFT of the prostate. Two years after the initial diagnosis, the patient was alive with normal erectile function, continence status, and no evidence of the disease.

Bacteriophages are viruses that specifically infect bacteria and are classified as either virulent phages or temperate phages. Despite virulent phages being promising antimicrobial agents due to their bactericidal effects, the implementation of phage therapy depends on the availability of virulent phages against target bacteria. Notably, virulent phages of Streptococcus gordonii, which resides in the oral cavity and is an opportunistic pathogen that can cause periodontitis and endocarditis have previously never been found. We thus attempted to isolate virulent phages against S. gordonii. In the present study, we report for the first time a virulent bacteriophage against S. gordonii, ΦSG005, discovered from drainage water. ΦSG005 is composed of a short, non-contractile tail and a long head, revealing Podoviridae characteristics via electron microscopic analysis. In turbidity reduction assays, ΦSG005 showed efficient bactericidal effects on S. gordonii. Whole-genome sequencing showed that the virus has a DNA genome of 16,127 bp with 21 coding sequences. We identified no prophage-related elements such as integrase in the ΦSG005 genome, demonstrating that the virus is a virulent phage. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that ΦSG005 forms a distinct clade among the streptococcus viruses and is positioned next to streptococcus virus C1. Molecular characterization revealed the presence of an anti-CRISPR (Acr) IIA5-like protein in the ΦSG005 genome. These findings facilitate our understanding of streptococcus viruses and advance the development of phage therapy against S. gordonii infection.

Abstract Background Autosomal recessive distal renal tubular acidosis (dRTA) is a rare hereditary disease caused by pathogenic variants in the ATP6V0A4 gene or ATP6V1B1 gene, and characterized by hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis with normal anion gap, hypokalemia, hypercalciuria, hypocitraturia and nephrocalcinosis. Although several intronic nucleotide variants in these genes have been detected, all of them fell in the apparent splice consensus sequence. In general, transcriptional analysis is necessary to determine the effect on function of the novel intronic variants located out of splicing consensus sequences. In recent years, functional splicing analysis using minigene construction was used to assess the pathogenicity of novel intoronic variant in various field. Methods We investigated a sporadic case of dRTA with a compound heterozygous mutation in the ATP6V0A4 gene, revealed by next generation sequencing. One variant was already reported as pathogenic; however, the other was a novel variant in intron 11 (c.1029 + 5G > A) falling outside of the apparent splicing consensus sequence. Expression of ATP6V0A4 was not detected in peripheral leukocytes by RT-PCR analysis. Therefore, an in vitro functional splicing study using minigene construction was conducted to analyze the splicing pattern of the novel variant. Results A minigene assay revealed that the novel intronic variant leads to a 104 bp insertion immediately following exon 11. In addition, this result was confirmed using RNA extracted from the patient’s cultured leukocytes. Conclusion These results proved the pathogenicity of a novel intronic variant in our patient. We concluded that the minigene assay is a useful, non-invasive method for functional splicing analysis of inherited kidney disease, even if standard transcriptional analysis could not detect abnormal mRNA.

Apoptosis signal-regulating kinase 1 (ASK1) is an oxidative stress-responsive kinase that is regulated by various interacting molecules and post-translational modifications. However, how these molecules and modifications cooperatively regulate ASK1 activity remains largely unknown. Here, we showed that tripartite motif 48 (TRIM48) orchestrates the regulation of oxidative stress-induced ASK1 activation. A pull-down screen identified a TRIM48-interacting partner, protein arginine methyltransferase 1 (PRMT1), which negatively regulates ASK1 activation by enhancing its interaction with thioredoxin (Trx), another ASK1-negative regulator. TRIM48 facilitates ASK1 activation by promoting K48-linked polyubiquitination and degradation of PRMT1. TRIM48 knockdown suppressed oxidative stress-induced ASK1 activation and cell death, whereas forced expression promoted cancer cell death in mouse xenograft model. These results indicate that TRIM48 facilitates oxidative stress-induced ASK1 activation and cell death through ubiquitination-dependent degradation of PRMT1. This study provides a cell death mechanism fine-tuned by the crosstalk between enzymes that engage various types of post-translational modifications.

Abstract Background Virtual-assisted lung mapping (VAL-MAP) has been used not only in wedge resection but also in segmentectomy for hardly palpable lung nodules. We herein report a case of bilateral segmentectomy using VAL-MAP with chronological change of pulmonary function test results. Case presentation A 50-year-old female was found to have a colorectal cancer with pulmonary nodules in both sides of the lungs considered as synchronous lung metastases. After sigmoidectomy for primary cancer and chemotherapy, treatments for small nodules in both sides of the lungs were planned. Most nodules were small and supposed to be impalpable. We performed thoracoscopic segmentectomy of right S8 with the aid of VAL-MAP and, after 2 months, combined subsegmentectomy of left S8a and 9a and wide wedge resection of left S8b with the aid of VAL-MAP. All nodules suspected of lung metastases were successfully resected with adequate margins, and the decrease in pulmonary function was minimal compared with predicted postoperative forced vital capacity (FVC) and forced expiratory volume (FEV) 1.0 calculated by the numbers of subsegments. Conclusions Bilateral segmentectomies of small impalpable metastatic tumors were performed successfully with the aid of VAL-MAP.

247. Boron-Incorporating Silicon Nanocrystals Embedded in SiO2: Absence of Free Carriers vs. B-Induced Defects

Abstract Boron (B) doping of silicon nanocrystals requires the incorporation of a B-atom on a lattice site of the quantum dot and its ionization at room temperature. In case of successful B-doping the majority carriers (holes) should quench the photoluminescence of Si nanocrystals via non-radiative Auger recombination. In addition, the holes should allow for a non-transient electrical current. However, on the bottom end of the nanoscale, both substitutional incorporation and ionization are subject to significant increase in their respective energies due to confinement and size effects. Nevertheless, successful B-doping of Si nanocrystals was reported for certain structural conditions. Here, we investigate B-doping for small, well-dispersed Si nanocrystals with low and moderate B-concentrations. While small amounts of B-atoms are incorporated into these nanocrystals, they hardly affect their optical or electrical properties. If the B-concentration exceeds ~1 at%, the luminescence quantum yield is significantly quenched, whereas electrical measurements do not reveal free carriers. This observation suggests a photoluminescence quenching mechanism based on B-induced defect states. By means of density functional theory calculations, we prove that B creates multiple states in the bandgap of Si and SiO2. We conclude that non-percolated ultra-small Si nanocrystals cannot be efficiently B-doped.

This paper examines the effect of instructions on parts' positions during an assembly task having numerous parts for someone to remember where they are located. Hypothesizing that instructions relating to the positions of the parts would enhance work efficiency and reduce workload, we designed an experimental method to test this theory. In this experiment using educational blocks, visual instructions were given by illuminating the space where the parts are kept, while auditory instructions were provided to aid locating the parts to compare the efficiency of visual and auditory instructions. Experiments with six participants showed that the visual instruction significantly shortened not only the search time but also the assembly time (which was one way in which efficiency was assessed in this study). The use of parts' positions instructions tended to reduce the workload as evaluated with NASA-TLX compared with the cases without instructions.

249. Defect-Induced Luminescence Quenching vs. Charge Carrier Generation of Phosphorus Incorporated in Silicon Nanocrystals as Function of Size

Abstract Phosphorus doping of silicon nanostructures is a non-trivial task due to problems with confinement, self-purification and statistics of small numbers. Although P-atoms incorporated in Si nanostructures influence their optical and electrical properties, the existence of free majority carriers, as required to control electronic properties, is controversial. Here, we correlate structural, optical and electrical results of size-controlled, P-incorporating Si nanocrystals with simulation data to address the role of interstitial and substitutional P-atoms. Whereas atom probe tomography proves that P-incorporation scales with nanocrystal size, luminescence spectra indicate that even nanocrystals with several P-atoms still emit light. Current-voltage measurements demonstrate that majority carriers must be generated by field emission to overcome the P-ionization energies of 110–260 meV. In absence of electrical fields at room temperature, no significant free carrier densities are present, which disproves the concept of luminescence quenching via Auger recombination. Instead, we propose non-radiative recombination via interstitial-P induced states as quenching mechanism. Since only substitutional-P provides occupied states near the Si conduction band, we use the electrically measured carrier density to derive formation energies of ~400 meV for P-atoms on Si nanocrystal lattice sites. Based on these results we conclude that ultrasmall Si nanovolumes cannot be efficiently P-doped.

Various adverse events can occur during antineoplastic therapy. A 67-year-old diabetic woman developed an emphysematous urinary tract infection (UTI) associated with chemoradiotherapy for lung cancer. She had received weekly carboplatin plus paclitaxel with thoracic radiotherapy and developed a fever on day 19. Computed tomography showed a large quantity of gas within the urinary tract. She was therefore diagnosed with emphysematous UTI. Poor diabetes control due to the weekly administration of dexamethasone, an existing urinary tract obstruction, and bone marrow suppression were involved in her serious infection. The potential development of emphysematous UTI during chemoradiotherapy should be considered in at-risk patients.
