Stroke stands as one of the primary global causes of disability and mortality. Post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) emerges as a prevalent aftermath affecting over a third of the patients, with its incidence steadily rising annually. Notable clinical findings, that significantly affect participation in daily routines and life contentment, can be listed as; memory decline, concentration challenges, dependency in decision-making, and struggle in problem-solving. There is also a correlation among PSCI, dementia, and, disability rates. Therefore, cognitive rehabilitation strategies to improve cognitive functions are important components of stroke rehabilitation interventions. Traditional cognitive education, physical therapy, physical activity, psychotherapy, and complementary medicine practices are frequently used in the literature to rehabilitate PSCI. In addition to these advancements, the evolution of information technology has introduced alternative treatment approaches that can be utilized in Cognitive Rehabilitation (CR) applications such as Virtual Reality (VR). The study assumes the causal effects of the Russian-Ukraine war on the Moscow Exchange index based on forecasting the counterfactual market response. The findings suggest that the Ukraine war has a detrimental impact on the index; the effects are especially more pronounced at the beginning of the war. The results indicate a rapid divergence from counterfactual predictions and the actual stock index was consistently lower than would have been expected in the absence of war. The two curves suggest a reconvening pattern in the stock market when the stock market resumes its activities. The estimate of the Moscow Exchange index decline following the conflict and reaching the bottom is shown in the point-wise causal effect. The cumulative causal effect adds up to the causal effect in the course of time. In relative terms, the response variable decreased by −51%. This means that the negative impact observed during the intervention period is statistically significant. The diverse economic sectors should have access to market information and pay close attention to the effects of the conflict on the stock market. Investment decisions and policy adjustments should be based on the evolution and changes in the conflict. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to analyse the experiences and perspectives of prospective biology teachers regarding their excursions using Actionbound to learn about plant species. The participants in the study consist of 30 undergraduate prospective biology teachers. The focus is on the prospective teachers' enjoyment of the Actionbound experience, the duration to complete the excursion, their willingness to engage in another task-based game, and their views on implementing mobile device-supported biology teaching, specifically related to the design of a biology lesson using Actionbound. The prospective biology teachers predominantly found their experience with Actionbound enjoyable. Their perspectives centred on the App's usability in education and its technical usability. Results show that biology lesson designed with mobile devices positively impacts knowledge retention, motivation, interest, and enjoyment. Swyer James Macleod Syndrome, also known as unilateral hyperlucent lung syndrome, is a rare lung condition characterized by the underdevelopment of one lung. This syndrome typically occurs in childhood and is often discovered incidentally during imaging studies for unrelated conditions. Individuals with Swyer James Macleod Syndrome may experience symptoms such as recurrent respiratory infections, shortness of breath, and decreased exercise tolerance. Purpose: Many noninvasive tests have been studied for the diagnosis and determining the liver fibrosis score. In this study, we aimed to research the correlation of platelet parameters and stage of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB).Materials and Methods: A total of 140 biopsy-proven naive CHB cases were included in the study. HBV-DNA level, liver enzymes and function tests, white blood cell count, platelet parametres, hemoglobin, histological activity index (HAI) and other routine biochemical parameters were tested. Patients were divided into two groups as F0-2 and F3-6 with Ishak scoring system according to the severity of liver fibrosis.Results: There was no significant difference between the groups F0-2 and F3-6 in terms of, platelet (PLT), mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet distribution width (PDW) and plateletcrit (PCT). There was a significant difference between these two groups for HAI, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), gamma glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT), age and lymphocyte (LYM) parameters. The formulation of (AST x Age x LYM) / √PLT)which was formed from many different combinations, was investigated in order to be used in predicting the liver fibrosis stage. Conclusion: Although our new index is more sensitivitythan other noninvasive scoring systems, it is needed to have a larger sample size in patients with severe stage liver fibrosis in order to be used safely as a noninvasive marker.

Objective:The aim of our study was to compare plasma vitamin D levels between patients with breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL) and healthy population, and also to investigate the effects of socio-demographic and clinical factors and lymphedema severity on vitamin D levels.Materials and Methods:Eighty patients with BCRL [mean age 55.5±8.9 (36-81)] and age- and sex-matched 80 healthy controls [mean age 53.7±7.4 (32-70)] who were not on calcium or vitamin D supplementation were included in the study. Socio-demographic and clinical characteristics of the subjects were questioned. Plasma 25-Hydroxyvitamin D3, calcium, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and parathormone (PTH) levels were evaluated. Lymphedema was classified as stage 0, I, II, or III.Results:The mean duration of lymphedema was 23.5±13.8 months. Comparisons revealed lower vitamin D levels and higher PTH and ALP levels in patients with BCRL than healthy controls. As a result of multivariate regression analysis, a significant relationship was revealed between vitamin D levels and age, breast cancer stage, and disease duration in patients with BCRL. Vitamin D levels were significantly lower and PTH levels were significantly higher in stage 3 lymphedema patients compared to stage 1.Conclusion:Vitamin D levels were detected lower in patients with lymphedema than healthy controls. Although vitamin D levels were found to be lower in patients with severe lymphedema, the multivariate regression analysis revealed that the severity of lymphedema does not have a significant effect on vitamin D levels.

The study was conducted on challenges of supply chain management that affect the international trade between Nigeria and the EU. The study used pure qualitative approach using secondary data from the national database and various sources for the period of 2007 to 2018. The research provides an overall view of how the practices of logistics and supply chain from two distinct part of the globe (Nigeria and the EU) are assessed and identifies the components included and how it affects the foreign trade between both parties. The research aims to find out the factors and attributes that lead to efficient logistics management and supply chain practices that will affect the performance of organizations and improve trade between Nigeria and the EU. The topics consist of Introduction, general idea about supply chain management, the general information about Nigeria and its international trade, the current overview of the EU and its international trade with West Africa precisely Nigeria. Lastly, recommendations are suggested so as to help enable improvement and growth in the sector of (Foreign) trade for Nigeria through effective management of logistics.

Abstract Background Multidrug-resistant (MDR) Acinetobacter baumannii infections are considered as emerging nosocomial infections particularly in patients hospitalized in intensive care units (ICUs). Therefore, reliable detection of MDR strains is crucial for management of treatment but also for epidemiological data collections. The purpose of this study was to compare antimicrobial resistance and the clonal distribution of MDR clinical and environmental A. baumannii isolates obtained from the ICUs of 10 different hospitals from five geographical regions of Turkey in the context of the demographic and clinical characteristics of the patients. Methods A multicenter-prospective study was conducted in 10 medical centers of Turkey over a 6 month period. A total of 164 clinical and 12 environmental MDR A. baumannii isolates were included in the study. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was performed for amikacin (AN), ampicillin–sulbactam (SAM), ceftazidime (CAZ), ciprofloxacin (CIP), imipenem (IMP) and colistin (COL) by microdilution method and by antibiotic gradient test for tigecycline (TIG). Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) was performed to determine the clonal relationship between the isolates. The detection of the resistance genes, bla OXA-23, bla OXA-24, bla OXA-51, bla OXA-58, bla IMP, bla NDM, bla KPC, bla OXA-48 and bla PER-1 was carried out using the PCR method. Results The mortality rate of the 164 patients was 58.5%. The risk factors for mortality included diabetes mellitus, liv1er failure, the use of chemotherapy and previous use of quinolones. Antimicrobial resistance rates for AN, SAM, CAZ, CIP, IMP, COL and TIG were 91.8%, 99.4%, 99.4%, 100%, 99.4%, 1.2% and 1.7% respectively. Colistin showed the highest susceptibility rate. Four isolates did not grow on the culture and were excluded from the analyses. Of 172 isolates, 166 (96.5%) carried bla OXA-23, 5 (2.9%) bla OXA-58 and one isolate (0.6%) was positive for both genes. The frequency of bla PER-1 was found to be 2.9%. None of the isolates had bla IMP, bla KPC, bla NDM and bla OXA-48 genes. PFGE analysis showed 88 pulsotypes. Fifteen isolates were clonally unrelated. One hundred fifty-seven (91.2%) of the isolates were involved in 14 different clusters. Conclusions Colistin is still the most effective antibiotic for A. baumannii infections. The gene bla OXA-23 has become the most prevalent carbapenemase in Turkey. The distribution of invasive A. baumannii isolates from different regions of Turkey is not diverse so, infection control measures at medical centers should be revised to decrease the MDR A. baumannii infections across the country. The results of this study are expected to provide an important baseline to assess the future prophylactic and therapeutic options.

The purpose of this research; biology teacher candidates are able to associate their scientific knowledge with their daily lives during their education. In context of this purpose, it is designed in form of case study.The study group of the study; on the basis of volunteerism, in Hacettepe University Biology Education Department, in the spring semester of 2017-2018, 26 teachers from 4th and 5th grade. Criteria sampling was used in the research purpose sampling methods. Biology was obtained by using semi-structured interview form in relation to the level of teacher candidates' ability to relate scientific information to their daily lives. In the analysis of the data obtained from interview questions, content analysis method was used. According to the findings obtained as a result of the research; biology teacher candidates can associate scientific knowledge with their daily lives to a great extent.
