Abstract

Paediatric phaeochromocytomas and paragangliomas (PPGLs), though rare tumours, are associated with significant disability and death in the most vulnerable of patients early in their lives. However, unlike cryptogenic and insidious disease states, the clinical presentation of paediatric patients with PPGLs can be rather overt, allowing early diagnosis, granted that salient findings are recognized. Additionally, with prompt and effective intervention, prognosis is favourable if timely intervention is implemented. Abstract

Belt is main component of belt conveyor. Main reason of belt failure is excessive stretch occurs during starting of the system. In this paper, dynamic belt model is simulated with Lagrange's approach and stretch variation analysed for transient period. A mathematical model is formulated for transient picks of stretch in the belt while full load starting process of belt conveyor. Five different belt conveyors data is used for modelling. A relation established between belt stretch value and thirty-eight independent input variables which includes; geometrical, material and process parameters of belt conveyor system. Mathematical model is established by multivariable regression modelling technique. Model found 93.3% reliable for the simulated results. Validation of proposed model carried out by artificial neural network technique, and correlation of 0.9793 found with ANN predictions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The application of assistive robots is increasing in the day-to-day life. Assistive robotic systems are useful in the different domains ranging from medical, domestic and other indoor fields. Based on the utility, several applications of the assistive robots can be thought of. This paper outlines the steps involved in design and simulation of a mobile robot platform for an indoor office environment. The different phases of the development are discussed. The proposed system architecture is based on the real time navigation with dynamic obstacle avoidance in an indoor environment. For this purpose, 3D vision sensor-based navigation architecture is discussed. The target application for the robot model is object transfer from one location to other. Abstract

The paper shows and includes targeted supervision of optimizing machining parameters. Material Removal Rate and surface roughness being integral to machining efficacy of any workpiece, simulation-based modeling helps in failure mitigation. The potential of ANN-GA mathematical approach for prediction and optimization of MRR and surface roughness of AL 6061, an analysis based statistical study has been discussed. The computational model between the desired output and the inputs have been configured using Multiple Regression- Genetic Algorithm and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) methods. The closeness in predicted and optimized data sets were mapped using integrational ANN with GA to interpolate efficacy in optimality.

220. Quantification of emissions in the ICT sector – a comparative analysis of the Product Life Cycle Assessment and Spend-based methods. : Optimal value chain accounting (Scope 3, category 1)

Abstract

Considering the rapid increase in the ICT (Information & Communication Technology) products in use, there is a risk of an increase in GHG emissions and electronic waste accumulation in the ICT sector. Therefore, it becomes important to account for the emissions in the ICT sector in order to take steps to mitigate them. There are several methods put forward under ETSI, ITU-T, GHG protocol, etc., which can be used to measure the emissions in the ICT sector. Two such methods are Product Life Cycle Assessment (PLCA) and Spend-based, which are used in this study to account for scope 3, category 1 emissions in the ICT sector. Scope 3, category 1 emissions are released during the raw material acquisition and part production phase of the ICT product’s life cycle and account for a major portion of the overall emissions. As the ICT sector is a very huge field of study in itself, two ICT products, namely smartphones and laptops, are considered in this study to calculate their overall scope 3, category 1 emissions. A list of influential components in smartphones and laptops is defined to be included in the Excel Management Life Cycle Assessment (EMLCA) tool to calculate the scope 3, category 1 emissions. A comprehensive comparison between PLCA and Spend-based methods is also studied during the process of calculating their emissions. These observations are then used to make critical analyses and compare the two methods under results and discussions based on various parameters described under them. Both the methods were found to be suitable for calculating the emissions, with some uncertainty, although the Spend-based method was a quicker approach to do so. The PLCA method, although more complex, was found to be more suitable for ICT product eco-design. Both methods required a different set of primary data and were sensitive to various components in smartphones and laptops. Abstract

Patients with germline SDHDpathogenic variants (encoding succinate dehydrogenase subunit D; ie, paraganglioma 1 syndrome) are predominantly affected by head and neck paragangliomas, which, in almost 20% of patients, might coexist with paragangliomas arising from other locations (eg, adrenal medulla, para-aortic, cardiac or thoracic, and pelvic). Given the higher risk of tumour multifocality and bilaterality for phaeochromocytomas and paragangliomas (PPGLs) because of SDHDpathogenic variants than for their sporadic and other genotypic counterparts, the management of patients with SDHDPPGLs is clinically complex in terms of imaging, treatment, and management options. Furthermore, locally aggressive disease can be discovered at a young age or late in the disease course, which presents challenges in balancing surgical intervention with various medical and radiotherapeutic approaches. The axiom—first, do no harm—should always be considered and an initial period of observation (ie, watchful waiting) is often appropriate to characterise tumour behaviour in patients with these pathogenic variants. These patients should be referred to specialised high-volume medical centres. This consensus guideline aims to help physicians with the clinical decision-making process when caring for patients with SDHDPPGLs.

Abstract

Purpose: To understand prognostic immune cell infiltration signatures in neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs), particularly pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma (PCPG), we analyzed tumor transcriptomic data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and other published tumor transcriptomic data of NENs. Methods: We used CIBERSORT to infer immune cell infiltrations from bulk tumor transcriptomic data from PCPGs, in comparison to gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEPNETs) and small cell lung carcinomas (SCLCs). PCPG immune signature was validated with NanoString immune panel in an independent cohort. Unsupervised clustering of the immune infiltration scores from CIBERSORT was used to find immune clusters. A prognostic immune score model for PCPGs and the other NENs were calculated as a linear combination of the estimated infiltration of activated CD8+/CD4+ T cells, activated NK cells, and M0 and M2 macrophages. Results: In PCPGs, we found five dominant immune clusters, associated with M2 macrophages, monocytes, activated NK cells, M0 macrophages and regulatory T cells, and CD8+/CD4+ T cells respectively. Non-metastatic tumors were associated with activated NK cells and metastatic tumors were associated with M0 macrophages and regulatory T cells. In GEPNETs and SCLCs, M0 macrophages and regulatory T cells were associated with unfavorable outcomes and features, such as metastasis and high-grade tumors. The prognostic immune score model for PCPGs and the NENs could predict non-aggressive and non-metastatic diseases. In PCPGs, the immune score was also an independent predictor of metastasis-free survival in a multivariate Cox regression analysis. Abstract

Conventional agricultural practices rely heavily on chemical fertilizers to boost production. Among the fertilizers, phosphatic fertilizers are copiously used to ameliorate low-phosphate availability in the soil. However, phosphorus-use efficiency (PUE) for major cereals, including maize, is less than 30%; resulting in more than half of the applied phosphate being lost to the environment. Rock phosphate reserves are finite and predicted to exhaust in near future with the current rate of consumption. Thus, the dependence of modern agriculture on phosphatic fertilizers poses major food security and sustainability challenges. Strategies to optimize and improve PUE, like genetic interventions to develop high PUE cultivars, could have a major impact in this area. Here, we present the current understanding and recent advances in the biological phenomenon of phosphate uptake, translocation, and adaptive responses of plants under phosphate deficiency, with special reference to maize. Maize is one of the most important cereal crops that is cultivated globally under diverse agro-climatic conditions. It is an industrial, feed and food crop with multifarious uses and a fast-rising global demand and consumption. The interesting aspects of diversity in the root system architecture traits, the interplay between signaling pathways contributing to PUE, and an in-depth discussion on promising candidate genes for improving PUE in maize are elaborated. Abstract

The primary task was to create a database in Python, using information from either the United States Patent and Trademark Office or Google Patents, which allows efficient lookups using information such as patent assignee and the patent number. Google Patents was chosen because it contained international patent information rather than being limited to just the United States. The Jupyter Notebook was made to use Beautiful Soup to scrape data from Google Patents. The workflow of the code is to start with a user-defined comma-separated values file that specifies names, e.g., of restaurants and hotel firms, that are relevant to the analysis the user wants to conduct. The first tasks were to read in the query, create a dictionary of company names with associated patent numbers, scrape websites for lxml data, and write raw data to JSON and Excel. The next task was to analyze the stored information qualitatively or quantitatively. Here qualitative analysis was chosen in the form of Natural Language Processing (NLP). The goal was to classify the patents using NLP. The key steps included noise removal, stop word removal, and lemmatization. With this database, we can perform numerous types of analyses to study the effect of patents on the total valuation of companies. It is anticipated that Dr. Zach and future Computer Science students will build upon the current work and conduct additional forms of analysis.
