Abstract: We report measurements of the flux-integrated ν̅μ and ν̅μ + νμ charged-current cross-sections on water and hydrocarbon targets using the T2K anti-neutrino beam with a mean beam energy of 0.86 GeV. The signal is defined as the (anti-)neutrino charged-current interaction with one induced μ± and no detected charged pion or proton. These measurements are performed using a new WAGASCI module recently added to the T2K setup in combination with the INGRID Proton Module. Abstract: We report measurements by the T2K experiment of the parameters θ 23 and Δ m 2 32 , which govern the disappearance of muon neutrinos and antineutrinos in the three-flavor PMNS neutrino oscillation model at T2K’s neutrino energy and propagation distance. Utilizing the ability of the experiment to run with either a mainly neutrino or a mainly antineutrino beam, muon-like events from each beam mode are used to measure these parameters separately for neutrino and antineutrino oscillations. Data taken from 1.49 × 10 21 protons on target (POT) in neutrino mode and 1.64 × 10 21 POT in antineutrino mode are used. The best-fit values obtained by T2K were sin 2 ( θ 23 ) = 0.51 + 0.06 − 0.07 ( 0.43 + 0.21 − 0.05 ) and Δ m 2 32 = 2.47 + 0.08 − 0.09 ( 2.50 + 0.18 − 0.13 ) × 10 − 3 eV 2 / c 4 for neutrinos (antineutrinos). No significant differences between the values of the parameters describing the disappearance of muon neutrinos and antineutrinos were observed. An analysis using an effective two-flavor neutrino oscillation model where the sine of the mixing angle is allowed to take nonphysical values larger than 1 is also performed to check the consistency of our data with the three-flavor model. Our data were found to be consistent with a physical value for the mixing angle.

Abstract: The T2K experiment reports updated measurements of neutrino and antineutrino oscillations using both appearance and disappearance channels. This result comes from an exposure of $14.9~(16.4) \times 10^{20}$ protons on target in neutrino (antineutrino) mode. Significant improvements have been made to the neutrino interaction model and far detector reconstruction. An extensive set of simulated data studies have also been performed to quantify the effect interaction model uncertainties have on the T2K oscillation parameter sensitivity. T2K performs multiple oscillation analyses that present both frequentist and Bayesian intervals for the PMNS parameters. For fits including a constraint on \ssqthonethree from reactor data and assuming normal mass ordering T2K measures $\sin^2\theta_{23} = 0.53^{+0.03}_{-0.04}$ and $\Delta{}m^2_{32} = (2.45 \pm 0.07) \times 10^{-3}$ eV$^{2}$c$^{-4}$. The Bayesian analyses show a weak preference for normal mass ordering (89% posterior probability) and the upper $\sin^2\theta_{23}$ octant (80% posterior probability), with a uniform prior probability assumed in both cases. Abstract: We report measurements of the flux-integrated ν̄μ and ν̄μ + νμ charged-current crosssections on water and hydrocarbon targets using the T2K anti-neutrino beam, with a mean beam energy of 0.86 GeV. The signal is defined as the (anti-) neutrino chargedcurrent interaction with one induced μ } and no detected charged pion nor proton. These measurements are performed using a new WAGASCI module recently added to the T2K setup in combination with the INGRID Proton module. The phase space of muons is restricted to the high-detection efficiency region, pμ > 400 MeV/c and θμ < 30◦, in the laboratory frame. Absence of pions and protons in the detectable phase space of “pπ > 200 MeV/c and θπ < 70◦”, and “pp > 600 MeV/c and θp < 70◦” is required. In this paper, both of the ν̄μ cross-sections and ν̄μ + νμ cross-sections on water and hydrocarbon targets, and their ratios are provided by using the D’Agostini unfolding method. The results of the integrated ν̄μ cross-section measurements over this phase space are σH2O = (1.082 ± 0.068(stat.)+0.145 −0.128(syst.)) × 10−39 cm2/nucleon, σCH = (1.096 ± 0.054(stat.)+0.132 −0.117(syst.)) × 10−39 cm2/nucleon, and σH2O/σCH = 0.987 ± 0.078(stat.)+0.093 −0.090(syst.). The ν̄μ + νμ cross-section is σH2O = (1.155 ± 0.064(stat.)+0.148 −0.129(syst.)) × 10−39 cm2/nucleon, σCH = (1.159 ± 0.049(stat.) +0.129 −0.115(syst.)) × 10−39 cm2/nucleon, and σH2O/σCH = 0.996 ± 0.069(stat.)+0.083 −0.078(syst.).

Abstract: This paper reports the first T2K measurement of the transverse kinematic imbalance in the single-$��^+$ production channel of neutrino interactions. We measure the differential cross sections in the muon-neutrino charged-current interaction on hydrocarbon with a single $��^+$ and at least one proton in the final state, at the ND280 off-axis near detector of the T2K experiment. The extracted cross sections are compared to the predictions from different neutrino-nucleus interaction event generators. Overall, the results show a preference for models which have a more realistic treatment of nuclear medium effects including the initial nuclear state and final-state interactions.

Abstract: We have searched for proton decay via p→e+π0 and p→μ+π0 modes with the enlarged fiducial volume data of Super-Kamiokande from April 1996 to May 2018, which corresponds to 450 kton·years exposure. We have accumulated about 25% more livetime and enlarged the fiducial volume of the Super-Kamiokande detector from 22.5 kton to 27.2 kton for this analysis, so that 144 kton·years of data, including 78 kton·years of additional fiducial volume data, has been newly analyzed. No candidates have been found for p→e+π0 and one candidate remains for p→μ+π0 in the conventional 22.5 kton fiducial volume and it is consistent with the atmospheric neutrino background prediction. We set lower limits on the partial lifetime for each of these modes: τ/B(p→e+π0)>2.4×1034 years and τ/B(p→μ+π0)>1.6×1034 years at 90% confidence level.

Abstract: We report a search for astronomical neutrinos in the energy region from several GeV to TeV in the direction of the blazar TXS0506+056 using the Super-Kamiokande detector following the detection of a 100 TeV neutrino from the same location by the IceCube collaboration. Using Super-Kamiokande neutrino data across several data samples observed from April 1996 to February 2018 we have searched for both a total excess above known backgrounds across the entire period as well as localized excesses on smaller time scales in that interval. No significant excess nor significant variation in the observed event rate are found in the blazar direction. Upper limits are placed on the electron and muon neutrino fluxes at 90\% confidence level as $6.03 \times 10^{-7}$ and $4.52 \times 10^{-7}$ to $9.26 \times 10^{-10}$ [${\rm erg}/{\rm cm}^2/{\rm s}$], respectively.

It is, however, an important process to understand because it is a background for electron (anti)neutrino appearance oscillation experiments. Here, we performed the first search of this process below 1 GeV using the finegrained detector at the T2K ND280 off-axis near detector. By reconstructing single photon kinematics from electron–positron pairs, we achieved 95% pure gamma ray sample from 5.738 ´ 1020 protons-on-targets neutrino mode data. We do not find positive evidence of NC induced single photon production in this sample. We set the model-dependent upper limit on the cross-section for this process, at 0.114 ´ 10-38 cm2 (90% C.L.) per nucleon, using the J-PARC off-axis neutrino beam with an average energy of ⟨En⟩ ~ 0.6 GeV. This is the first limit on this process below 1GeV which is important for current and future oscillation experiments looking for electron neutrino appearance oscillation signals.

Abstract: The T2K experiment measures muon neutrino disappearance and electron neutrino appearance in accelerator-produced neutrino and antineutrino beams. With an exposure of 14.7(7.6)×1020 protons on target in the neutrino (antineutrino) mode, 89 νe candidates and seven anti-νe candidates are observed, while 67.5 and 9.0 are expected for δCP=0 and normal mass ordering. The obtained 2σ confidence interval for the CP-violating phase, δCP, does not include the CP-conserving cases (δCP=0, π). The best-fit values of other parameters are sin2θ23=0.526−0.036+0.032 and Δm322=2.463−0.070+0.071×10−3 eV2/c4.

Abstract: This paper reports the first differential measurement of the charged-current ν¯μ interaction cross section on water with no pions in the final state. The unfolded flux-averaged measurement using the T2K off-axis near detector is given in double-differential bins of μ+ momentum and angle. The integrated cross section in a restricted phase space is σ=(1.11±0.18)×10−38 cm2 per water molecule. Comparisons with several nuclear models are also presented.

We have measured the neutron multiplicities in atmospheric neutrino interactions in the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory experiment and compared them to the prediction of a Monte Carlo simulation using GENIE and a minimally modified version of GEANT4. We analyzed 837 days of exposure corresponding to Phase I, using pure heavy water, and Phase II, using a mixture of Cl in heavy water. Neutrons produced in atmospheric neutrino interactions were identified with an efficiency of $15.3\%$ and $44.3\%$, for Phase I and II respectively. The neutron production is measured as a function of the visible energy of the neutrino interaction and, for charged current quasi-elastic interaction candidates, also as a function of the neutrino energy. This study is also performed classifying the complete sample into two pairs of event categories: charged current quasi-elastic and non charged current quasi-elastic, and $\nu_{\mu}$ and $\nu_e$. Results show good overall agreement between data and Monte Carlo for both phases, with some small tension with a statistical significance below $2\sigma$ for some intermediate energies.

Abstract: We have searched for proton decay via $p\to e^+��^0$ and $p\to ��^+��^0$ modes with the enlarged fiducial volume data of Super-Kamiokande from April 1996 to May 2018, which corresponds to 450 kton$\cdot$years exposure. We have accumulated about 25% more livetime and enlarged the fiducial volume of the Super-Kamiokande detector from 22.5 kton to 27.2 kton for this analysis, so that 144 kton$\cdot$years of data, including 78 kton$\cdot$years of additional fiducial volume data, has been newly analyzed. No candidates have been found for $p\to e^+��^0$ and one candidate remains for $p\to ��^+��^0$ in the conventional 22.5 kton fiducial volume and it is consistent with the atmospheric neutrino background prediction. We set lower limits on the partial lifetime for each of these modes: $��/B(p\to e^+��^0) > 2.4 \times 10^{34}$ years and $��/B(p\to ��^+��^0) > 1.6 \times 10^{34}$ years at 90% confidence level., 16 pages, 10 figures

Abstract: Neutrons produced in nuclear interactions initiated by cosmic-ray muons present an irreducible background to many rare-event searches, even in detectors located deep underground. Models for the production of these neutrons have been tested against previous experimental data, but the extrapolation to deeper sites is not well understood. Here we report results from an analysis of cosmogenically produced neutrons at the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory. A specific set of observables are presented, which can be used to benchmark the validity of geant4 physics models. In addition, the cosmogenic neutron yield, in units of 10−4 cm2/(g·μ), is measured to be 7.28±0.09(stat)−1.12+1.59(syst) in pure heavy water and 7.30±0.07(stat)−1.02+1.40(syst) in NaCl-loaded heavy water. These results provide unique insights into this potential background source for experiments at SNOLAB.

Abstract: Water Cherenkov and water-based particle detector technologies are used to realize multi-kiloton scale experiments such as the currently operating Super-Kamiokande experiment, the planned Hyper-Kamiokande experiment and the proposed THEIA detector and ESSnuSB detectors. These experiments are operated or proposed to study a broad range of physics including neutrino oscillations, nucleon decay, dark matter and neutrinoless double beta decay. The neutrino oscillations program will also include kiloton scale near or intermediate detectors used to study neutrino production and interactions in the absence of neutrino oscillations, such as the Hyper-K Intermediate Water Cherenkov Detector (IWCD). Realization of these physics programs will require new detector technologies and percent level calibration of detector responses and models of physics processes within the detector. Here we describe our intent to propose a 50~ton scale Water Cherenkov test experiment (WCTE) to be deployed in a North or East test beam experimental area. The experiment will include a secondary target located just upstream of the experiment in order to produce very low energy particle fluxes, including charged pions. Abstract: We report a measurement of the flux-integrated cross section for inclusive muon neutrino charged-current interactions on carbon. The double-differential measurements are given as a function of the muon momentum and angle. Relative to our previous publication on this topic, these results have an increased angular acceptance and higher statistics. The data sample presented here corresponds to 5.7×1020 protons on target. The total flux-integrated cross section is measured to be (6.950±0.662)×10−39 cm2 nucleon−1 and is consistent with our simulation.

Abstract: We report a measurement of the flux-integrated charged-current cross sections on water, hydrocarbon, and iron in the T2K on-axis neutrino beam with a mean neutrino energy of 1.5 GeV. The measured cross sections on water, hydrocarbon, and iron are /nucleon, /nucleon, and /nucleon, respectively, for a restricted phase space of induced muons: and $]]>0.4 GeV/ in the laboratory frame. The measured cross section ratios are , , and . These results, with an unprecedented precision for the measurements of neutrino cross sections on water in the studied energy region, show good agreement with the current neutrino interaction models used in the T2K oscillation analyses.
