Accurate assessments of anthropogenic carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and their redistribution among the atmosphere, ocean, and terrestrial biosphere is important to better understand the global carbon cycle, support the climate policy process, and project future climate change. Present-day analysis requires the combination of a range of data, algorithms, statistics and model estimates and their interpretation by a broad scientific community. Here we describe datasets and a methodology developed by the global carbon cycle science community to quantify all major components of the global carbon budget, including their uncertainties. We discuss changes compared to previous estimates, consistency within and among components, and methodology and data limitations. CO2 emissions from fossil fuel combustion and cement production (EFF) are based on energy statistics, while emissions from Land-Use Change (ELUC), including deforestation, are based on combined evidence from land cover change data, fire activity in regions undergoing deforestation, and models. The global atmospheric CO2 concentration is measured directly and its rate of growth (GATM) is computed from the concentration. The mean ocean CO2 sink (SOCEAN) is based on observations from the 1990s, while the annual anomalies and trends are estimated with ocean models. Finally, the global residual terrestrial CO2 sink (SLAND) is estimated by the difference of the other terms. For the last decade available (2002–2011), EFF was 8.3 ± 0.4 PgC yr−1, ELUC 1.0 ± 0.5 PgC yr−1, GATM 4.3 ± 0.1PgC yr−1, SOCEAN 2.5 ± 0.5 PgC yr−1, and SLAND 2.6 ± 0.8 PgC yr−1. For year 2011 alone, EFF was 9.5 ± 0.5 PgC yr−1, 3.0 percent above 2010, reflecting a continued trend in these emissions; ELUC was 0.9 ± 0.5 PgC yr−1, approximately constant throughout the decade; GATM was 3.6 ± 0.2 PgC yr−1, SOCEAN was 2.7 ± 0.5 PgC yr−1, and SLAND was 4.1 ± 0.9 PgC yr−1. The E-Five is a prospective, nonrandomized, multicenter global registry of patients receiving the Endeavor zotarolimus-eluting stent (ZES; Medtronic Vascular, Santa Rosa, CA) for the treatment of coronary artery stenosis. All consecutive procedures were included in the registry, without any specific anatomic or clinical exclusion criteria. Since October 2005, 8,318 patients have been enrolled in the E-Five Registry at 188 hospitals in Europe, South America, Australia, New Zealand, and Asia, and 10,343 lesions have been treated. The primary end point is the rate of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) at 1 year. Of the lesions treated, 60.3% were American College of Cardiology (ACC) and American Heart Association (AHA) type B2 or C lesions, and 16.5% were bifurcation stenoses. The average lesion length was 18.50 +/- 10.60 mm, and 50.6% of the lesions were >=16 mm long. Clinical data have been analyzed for 1,989 of the patients (23.9%) receiving the Endeavor ZES in this registry, with 30-day clinical outcomes available for 1,985 of these 1,989 patients (99.8%). The acute procedure success rate in these patients was 98.6%, comparable with procedure success rates observed in previous Endeavor ZES clinical trials. The 30-day rate of MACE in these patients was just 1.7%, comparable with 30-day rates of MACE observed in previous ENDEAVOR clinical trials. In an early analysis of a subgroup of patients enrolled in the E-Five Registry, the Endeavor ZES demonstrated encouraging acute and 30-day outcomes in a real-world population of patients who underwent single-vessel or multivessel percutaneous coronary intervention. © 2007 Elsevier Inc. Objective: To retrospectively evaluate the 12-month effectiveness of the Endeavor zotarolimus-eluting stent (ZES) in diabetic versus non-diabetic patients enrolled in the E-Five Registry. Design and Setting: The E-Five Registry is a prospective, multicentre registry of 8314 patients presenting with symptomatic coronary artery disease treated with the Endeavor (ZES). Patients were treated at 188 centres located in 37 countries across Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific. Patient(s): There were 2721 (32.7%) patients with diabetes (DM) and among these patients 682 were insulin-treated (ITDM) and 2039 were non-insulin-treated diabetic patients (NITDM). Intervention(s): All enrolled patients received an Endeavor ZES and were followed for 12 months. Main outcome measurements: The primary outcome measure was major adverse cardiac event (MACE) at 12 months. Secondary endpoints included target lesion revascularisation (TLR), target vessel revascularisation (TVR), target vessel failure (TVF) and stent thrombosis. Result(s): Compared with non-DM patients, DM patients had higher rates of MACE (9.7% vs 6.4%, p<0.001), TLR (5.3% vs 4.0%, p=0.028) and Academic Research Consortium (ARC) definite and probable stent thrombosis (1.5% vs 0.9%, p=0.041). Compared with non-DM patients, ITDM patients had higher rates of MACE (12.6% vs 6.4%, p<0.001). ITDM patients had higher rates of death (6.7% vs 1.7%, p<0.001), cardiac death (4.5% vs 1.2%, p<0.001) and TLR (6.5% vs 4.0%, p=0.011) than non-DM patients. Conclusion(s): The Endeavor ZES performed well in DM patients; however, DM patients experienced higher rates of adverse clinical events compared with non-DM patients. The purpose of the present research work was develop once-daily sustained-release matrix tablet containing water-soluble drug (Diltiazem) that is a novel calcium channel blocker used in cardiovascular diseases, by utilizing a combination of Hypromellose (HPMC), Eudragit with different grades and finally milled Ethyl cellulose. Tablets were prepared by the wet granulation method. The prepared granules and tablets were evaluated based on a range of parameters and in vitro drug release profile. Attribution of climate change to individual countries is a part of ongoing policy discussions, e.g., the Brazil proposal, and requires a quantifiable link between emissions and climate change. We present a constrained propagation of errors that tracks uncertainties from human activities to greenhouse gas emissions, to increasing abundances of greenhouse gases, to radiative forcing of climate, and finally to climate change, thus following the causal chain for greenhouse gases emitted by developed nations since national reporting began in 1990. Errors combine uncertainties in the forward modeling at each step with top-down constraints on the observed changes in greenhouse gases and temperatures. Global surface temperature increased by +0.110C in 2003 due to the developed nations' emissions of Kyoto greenhouse gases from 1990 to 2002. The uncertainty range, +0.08 degrees C to +0.14 degrees C (68% confidence), is large considering that the developed countries emissions are well known for this period and climate system modeling uncertainties are constrained by observations.
