The crystallization and nanoindentation behavior of a Zr–10Al–5Ti–17.9Cu–14.6Ni (at.%) bulk amorphous alloy (BAA) were studied. Resulting from the kinetic nature of phase transformation in multicomponent alloys, the crystallization path is complex. Despite the complexity of different crystallization paths, the main final crystallized product in the Zr-based BAA is Zr2Cu. Young's modulus and hardness of the BAA were found to increase with an increase in annealing temperature. The observed mechanical properties were correlated with the microstructure of the material. Also, in the present paper, both the observed crystallization and nanoindentation behavior are compared with existing data. Zr-based BAAs exhibit a ratio of hardness to Young's modulus (H/E ratio) of about 1/10, suggesting the interatomic bonding in the alloys is close to being covalent.

mAb B4 is a monoclonal antibody directed against HIV receptor complex. The antibody had broad neutralizing activity against HIV and provided postexposure prophylaxis to hu–peripheral blood leukocyte (PBL)–severe combined immunodeficient mice and chimpanzees. B4 recognized a complex receptor site for HIV on the T cell surface that includes CD4 and also may be influenced by interaction with HIV coreceptors. mAb B4 preferentially neutralized primary HIV-1 isolates compared with T cell line-adapted strains, including syncytium-inducing and non-syncytium-inducing phenotypes, representatives from HIV-1 subtypes A-G, as well as HIV-2, simian immunodeficiency virus, and chimeric simian/human immunodeficiency virus (SHIV). Neutralization was demonstrated in both pre- and postinfection models. The administration of mAb B4 after infectious challenge totally interrupted the infection of hu-PBL–severe combined immunodeficient mice by PBL-grown HIV-1 and the infection of chimpanzees by chimp-adapted HIV-1. This mode of protection suggested that the anti-HIV receptor antibody is efficacious for prophylaxis after exposure to HIV and for prevention of maternal transmission and may be an effective antiretroviral agent for treatment.

A simplified relativistic configuration interaction method is used to study the dielectronic satellite transition processes. In this method, the infinite resonant doubly excited states can be calculated, and furthermore, the whole high-n dielectronic satellite transition processes can be treated conveniently by interpolation (rather than extrapolation) in the frame of Quantum Defect Theory. As an example, we calculate the contributions from high-n dielectronic satellites to the \(\) resonance line in helium-like iron, and the results are in good agreement with the experimental measurements.

In order to avoid the complex calculation and poor robustness in automatic visual modeling process, a man-machine interaction based stereo vision system is developed for modeling an unknown environment. The operator‘s knowledge about a scene is used as a guidance for modeling 3D environment. The modeling technique has advantage in terms of reliability and robustness over other automatic modeling approaches. The data points needed for modeling an objects are obtained through the intersection of lines, or calculation from equations of curve, derived via fitting from human guided edge detection. The modeling accuracy is ensured by using image feature extraction. A multi-viewpoint modeling approach has been developed in order to deal with occlusion problems. Both accuracy and speed issues are addressed in this paper. The system implementation and some 3D measurements on real scene have been performed using cameras lenses of 16 mm and 8 mm with an accuracy 0.5 mm and 0.8 mm over the field of view, respectively. The virtual environment rendering based on the modeling data of real scenes with known model of mobile robot is given at the end of this paper.

Two types of {111} [11 (2) over bar] twins in a hot-deformed Ti-45Al-10Nb alloy were investigated by high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HREM). Type P ((111) [11 (2) over bar]) twins can be formed either through dislocation mechanisms or at grain boundary. The former can be further described by two mechanisms. One is the pole mechanism and the other is the dissociation of a perfect dislocation mechanism. For the formation of twins at the grain boundary, twins can be nucleated by bowing out of twinning dislocations at the grain boundary and propagated by the sequential emission of twinning dislocations on every adjacent twinning plane. 1/3[111] Frank partial dislocations can be observed at steps on the incoherent twin boundary of some twins. A mechanism has been proposed to illustrate the propagation of the twins with or without 1/3[111] Frank partials at the steps on the incoherent twin boundary. Type Q (((1) over bar 11)[(1) over bar 1 (2) over bar]) twins usually formed at the lamellar interfaces. The steps on these lamellar interfaces are the common sites for the nucleation of type Q twins. Deformation twinning in lamellar TiAl alloys was suggested as a stress relaxation process for the pile-up of interfacial dislocations. Possible dislocation mechanisms for the generation of twinning dislocations on the lamellar interface are discussed. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.

In this method, the infinite resonant doubly excited states can be treated conveniently in the frame of Quantum Defect Theory. Our calculated cross sections are in agreements with the experimental measurements except for the 1s2lnl'(n=6,7) resonances. The total energy-integrated cross sections and rate coefficients over all dielectronic resonances are in agreements with the experimental measurements within percent.

The x-ray spectra resulting from single-electron capture in charge-exchange collisions of Ne${}^{10+}$ with He and Ne atoms are investigated for the projectile energy of 4.54 keV/u using the two-center atomic-orbital close-coupling method. The calculated spectra of the Ne${}^{9+}$ ion produced in Ne${}^{10+}$ + He and Ne${}^{10+}$ + Ne electron-capture collisions have, generally speaking, the same level of agreement with experimental measurements as those calculated previously by the classical trajectory Monte Carlo method, indicating that multi-electron-capture processes, particularly in the case of the Ne${}^{10+}$ + Ne system, significantly affect the considered spectra. The effects of two-electron capture on the spectral line intensity have been demonstrated qualitatively by using the binomial statistics and independent particle model for the target outer-shell electrons. The role of multi-electron-capture processes in the Ne${}^{10+}$ + Ne collision system needs further attention.

Deformation-induced γ → α 2 and α 2 → γ phase transformations in a hot-forged Ti–45Al–10Nb alloy have been investigated by using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HREM). The γ → α 2 transformation is an interface-related process, which involves the emission of the interfacial superdislocations from the misoriented semi-coherent α 2 / γ interface. These superdislocations further react with each other or with the moving dislocations in γ phase and results in the formation of α 2 phase. On the other hand, the deformation-induced α 2 → γ phase transformation nucleates either at the α 2 / γ interfaces or at the stacking faults on the basal plane of α 2 phase. The growth of γ plate is accomplished by the moving of a/6 Shockley partials on alternate basal plane (0001) α 2 . The interfaces as well as the crystallographic orientation relationship between the as-cast or deformation-induced α 2 and γ phase have been analyzed. The mechanisms for the deformation-induced γ → α 2 and α 2 → γ phase transformations were also discussed.

International audience; Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) offers advantages for many applications, particularly where missions are complex and time performance is critical. For small-production digital acoustic synthesizers, FPGA can achieve the above-mentioned tighter system requirements with low total system costs on single chip. In this manuscript, a real-time acoustic synthesizer is implemented using Fourier series algorithm on Altera's Cyclone II FPGA chip. This work emphasizes systematic designs and parallel computations. The proposed system includes a flexible processor and a parallel parameterized acoustic module. On one hand, the Nios II embedded processor, which is relatively low-speed component, is used to generate commands and configure high-speed acoustic module parameters. On the other hand, acoustic module which should require high-speed components contains 4 parallel architectures to gain high-speed simultaneous calculus of 4 independent digital timbres. Every timbre is equivalent to 16 parallel high-precision harmonic channels with 0.3 % frequency error. Experimental results corroborate the fact that a single FPGA chip can achieve complex missions and attain real-time performances.

The nonradiative single-electron-capture (SEC) and double-electron-capture (DEC) processes for C${}^{4+}$(1${s}^{2}$) colliding with He atoms are investigated by using the quantum-mechanical molecular-orbital close-coupling method. Total and state-selective electron-capture cross sections are calculated in the energy range of 10${}^{\ensuremath{-}6}$--6 keV/amu. For energies less than 2 keV/amu, the DEC dominates the electron-capture processes. As the energy increases, the SEC cross sections increase while the DEC cross sections decrease; when $E$ g 2 keV/amu, the SEC process becomes the dominant mechanism. It is found that the SEC processes mainly result from the electron capture to $n$ = 3 channels of C${}^{3+}$ ion for energy below 0.7 keV/amu and from $n$ = 2 channels for $Eg0.7$ keV/amu. Compared with the available theoretical calculations, better agreement is achieved between the present results and the available measurements for total DEC and SEC cross sections. For state-resolved cross sections, excellent agreement is obtained for two-electron capture to C${}^{2+}$(2${s}^{2}$), C${}^{2+}$(2$s$2$p$), and C${}^{2+}$(2${p}^{2}$) and one-electron capture to C${}^{3+}$(2$s$) and C${}^{3+}$(2$p$) between the present calculations and the available theoretical and experimental results.

Background and Purpose— To determine incidence and risks of subarachnoid hemorrhage in China. Methods— A prospective, population-based, 1:2 matched case–control study in Baotou, Inner Mongolia (≈2 million population) in 2009–2011. Multiple variable models used to determine relative risk and population-attributable risks for exposures. Results— For a total of 226 patients (mean age, 59 years; 65% women; 434 controls), crude annual incidence (per 100 000) of subarachnoid hemorrhage was 6.2 (95% confidence intervals, 5.4–7.0); 4.3 (3.3–5.2) for men and 8.2 (6.9–9.6) for women. Compared with nonsmokers, adjusted relative risk of subarachnoid hemorrhage in current smokers was 2.31 (95% confidence interval, 1.31–4.09) but was 4.00 (1.62–9.89) in women. Population-attributable risk for smoking, hypertension, and low income were 18%, 36% and 59%, respectively. Conclusions— The incidence of subarachnoid hemorrhage in China is slightly lower than in Western countries and is related to smoking, hypertension, and poor socioeconomic status.

The nonradiative charge-transfer processes in Na${}^{+}$+${}^{87}$Rb(5$s$) collisions have been investigated by using the quantum-mechanical molecular-orbital close-coupling method and the two-center atomic-orbital close-coupling method for the energy range of 10${}^{\ensuremath{-}4}$--5 and 0.3--100 keV/u, respectively. The radiative charge-transfer, radiative-decay, and radiative-association processes have been investigated by using the fully quantum, optical-potential, and semiclassical methods for the energy range of 10${}^{\ensuremath{-}18}$--0.2 eV/u. The nonradiative charge-transfer processes dominate the collisions for energies above 0.2 eV/u and radiative-decay processes dominate in the lower-energy region. At the very low collision energies of 10${}^{\ensuremath{-}18}$--10${}^{\ensuremath{-}3}$ eV/u, the radiative-association process is more important than the radiative charge-transfer process. Most importantly, it is found that the radiative cross sections exhibit Langevin behavior as ${E}^{\ensuremath{-}1/2}$ for energies less than 10${}^{\ensuremath{-}2}$ eV/u.

We present multiwavelength observations of the afterglow of GRB 130427A, the brightest (in total fluence) gamma-ray burst of the past 29 years. Optical spectroscopy from Gemini-North reveals the redshift of the GRB to be z=0.340, indicating that its unprecedented brightness is primarily the result of its relatively close proximity to Earth; the intrinsic luminosities of both the GRB and its afterglow are not extreme in comparison to other bright GRBs. We present a large suite of multiwavelength observations spanning from 300 s to 130 d after the burst and demonstrate that the afterglow shows relatively simple, smooth evolution at all frequencies with no significant late-time flaring or rebrightening activity. The entire dataset from 1 GHz to 10 GeV can be modeled as synchrotron emission from a combination of reverse and forward shocks in good agreement with the standard afterglow model, providing strong support to the applicability of the underlying theory and clarifying the nature of the GeV emission observed to last for minutes to hours following other very bright GRBs. A tenuous, wind-stratified circumburst density profile is required by the observations, suggesting a massive-star progenitor with a low mass-loss rate, perhaps due to low metallicity. GRBs similar in nature to GRB 130427A, inhabiting low-density media and exhibiting strong reverse shocks, are probably not uncommon but may have been difficult to recognize in the past due to their relatively faint late-time radio emission; more such events should be found in abundance by the new generation of sensitive radio and millimeter instruments., Comment: Accepted to ApJ. We have measured the complete fusion, incomplete fusion, and the one-neutron stripping reaction for the ${}^{9}$Be+${}^{186}$W system, at energies not too much above the Coulomb barrier. The online and offline gamma ray spectroscopy methods were used for the derivation of the cross sections. A large value of one-neutron stripping cross section has been observed. The comparison of the data with coupled channel calculations without taking into account the breakup and transfer channels show the usual complete fusion suppression. The possible suppression of the total fusion is discussed.

The charge transfer processes for the Beq++H(q = 1-4) collisions are investigated by the quantum-mechanical and semiclassical methods in wide energy ranges. The total, n-selective, nl-selective, singlet and triplet charge transfer cross sections are obtained and compared with other available theoretical data. The total and n-selective data are presented. The validity of different methods is discussed. The recommend cross section data are given for all collision systems.

This paper comprises two separate parts. First, we present the high-spin states in 139Pm nucleus. Two negative-parity dipole bands have been observed and assigned as πh11/2⊗ν(h11/2)−2 and πh11/2⊗ν(h11/2)−4 configurations. From the systematic comparison with neighboring nuclei and SPAC (Shears mechanism with Principal Axis Cranking) model calculations, the two bands can be suggested as magnetic rotational bands. In the other part of this paper, the construction of one new array of eight Clover and sixteen HPGe detectors has been introduced. The characteristics of the Clover detector have been presented and compared with Geant4 simulations.

High-spin states of 194,195Au, 195Pt and 193Ir have been studied using an in-beam γ-ray spectroscopic technique following the reaction of 7Li on an 192Os target at 44 MeV. Several bands in these nuclei have been identified and extended up to high-spin states. The α and t emission channels leading to 193Ir and 195Pt, respectively, are strongly enhanced which may be explained by incomplete fusion reaction; the t and α fragments from the break-up of weakly bound 7Li nucleus fusion with 192Os target.

Laser-modified electron capture processes are studied for the He2++H collision system in the low projectile energy region by solving the time-dependent Schrodinger equation. An obvious enhancement of the total and dominant state-selective charge-transfer cross sections are observed with respect to laser-free and weaker laser cases for low projectile energy. The influence of the laser pulse phase upon the cross sections is also studied and the reduction of the cross section is observed at some pulse phases with the increasing of the projectile energy. The time evolution for the dynamics of the collision system is analyzed in order to explore the dependence of the cross sections upon the pulse phase.

The electron capture processes in the C5+(1s)+H(1s) collision system are investigated by the quantum-mechanical molecular orbital close-coupling (QMOCC) method in the energy range of 10−5–10 keV u−1. Accurate molecular structure calculations are performed by the ab initio multireference single- and double-excitation configuration interaction method. The electron translational effects are included in the calculations. The total and spin-resolved state-selective cross sections are presented and compared with the available experimental and theoretical data. The present results have a good agreement with the experimental measurements. Our calculations show that the electron translation factors play a very important role for energies above 0.1 keV u−1 leading to significant differences between the present and the previous QMOOC cross section results of Nolte et al 2012 (J. Phys. B: At. Mol. Opt. Phys. 45 245202). The effects of the core electron also cannot be ignored below 2 keV u−1. Model potential calculations, in which the core electron is treated as frozen, cannot give accurate spin-resolved cross sections.

The properties of bound-bound transitions in hydrogen-like ions in dense quantum plasmas, characterized by a cosine-Debye-Huckel interaction between charged particles, are studied in detail. The transition frequencies, oscillator strengths, and radiative transition probabilities of Lyman and Balmer series are calculated for a wide range of screening strengths of the interaction up to the n = 5 shell. For Δn≠0 transitions, all these quantities exhibit a significant decrease with increasing screening strength, while for the Δn=0 transitions and for the radiative lifetimes, the opposite is true. The present results are compared with those available from the literature. They are also compared with the results for the pure Debye-Huckel potential with the same screening strength.

Vlasov simulations are developed to study the one‐dimensional modulational instability and Langmuir collapse in a plasma driven by an external field. Both electrons and ions in the plasma are described by the Vlasov equations. The external driving field energy density is ∼10−3 times the initial electron thermal energy density. The plasma has a mass ratio of mi/me=1836, and a temperature ratio of Ti/Te=0.1 or 1.0, where mi, me, Ti, and Te are the ion mass, electron mass, ion temperature, and electron temperature. The modulational instability is saturated by the formation of Langmuir cavitons which later collapse and burn out due to the strong wave–particle interactions. The particle heating during a single Langmuir collapse is small under this weak driving field. The accelerated electron and ion jet‐like streams in phase space as well as the nucleation of cavitons are observed during the evolution. The electron capture and excitation processes in collisions of He+-Li are investigated theoretically by using the two-center atomic orbital close-coupling method in the energy range 0.1–100 keV u−1. The interaction of active electrons with the projectile ion is represented by a model potential different for the singlet and triplet systems of He states. The spin-averaged electron capture cross section of present calculations is compared with the available experimental data and with the results of other theoretical calculations and good agreement is obtained in the overlapping energy range. It is found that the cross sections for electron capture to singlet and triplet states of He are significantly different for energies below 5 keV u−1. However, the spin-resolved He+-Li interactions do not affect the excitation cross sections considerably.

Plasma screening effects on the energy structure and radiative transition properties of helium-like C4+ ions embedded in Debye plasmas are investigated by using the multi-configuration Dirac-Hartree-Fock method incorporating the Debye-Huckel potential for both the electron-nucleus and electron-electron interactions. Seventeen fine-structure energy levels of the low-lying 1s 2, 1s2l(l = s,p) and 1s3l′(l′ = s,p,d) configurations, as well as the electric-dipole (E1), magnetic-dipole (M1) and magnetic-quadrupole (M2) transition probabilities and oscillator strengths between these levels have been calculated over a wide range of screening parameters. It is found that the plasma screening leads to a decrease of excitation energies and alters the energy levels remarkably. For Δn ≠ 0 transitions, the spontaneous decay spectra are red-shifted and their oscillator strengths and transition probabilities decrease with increasing the interaction screening, while those for the Δn = 0 transitions exhibit opposite patterns. The influence of electron-nucleus and electron-electron screened interactions on the changes of energy levels and transition properties are analyzed. Comparison is made of present results with other data available in the literature for this ion.

Dynamics of electron capture and excitation processes in collisions of H${}^{+}$ with the excited He(2 ${}^{1,3\phantom{\rule{-0.16em}{0ex}}}{L}_{m}$) atom ($L$ $=$ $S$,$P$) has been studied by using the full quantum-mechanical molecular orbital close-coupling (QMOCC) method with ab initio determined molecular states. 38 singlet and 37 triplet molecular states of the HeH${}^{+}$ system, that asymptotically correlate to the $n$ $=$ 1--4 projectile and target atomic states, have been included in the expansion basis. The shell- and state-selective electron capture and excitation cross sections have been calculated in the 0.01--6 keV/u energy range up to the $n$ $=$ 4 shell and their energy behavior discussed on the basis of identified reaction mechanisms.

Excited states in ${}^{195}$Au have been studied experimentally via the ${}^{192}$Os(${}^{7}$Li, 4$n$) reaction at a beam energy of 44 MeV. Based on the $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-$\ensuremath{\gamma}$-$t$ coincidence measurement, a level scheme consisting of 15 new transitions and 10 new levels is established for ${}^{195}$Au. The triaxial shape-polarizing effect of the high-$j$ ${h}_{11/2}$ proton hole was studied by total Routhian surface calculations. By comparing with the level structures in the odd-$A$ Au isotopes and the even-even core Hg nuclei, configurations are proposed to the rotational bands and three-quasiparticle states observed in ${}^{195}$Au.

This study reported the analysis of KIT ligand (KITLG) gene polymorphisms in 681 goats of three breeds: Xinong Saanen (SN), Guanzhong (GZ), and Boer (BG). In addition, the study identified three allelic variants: g.769TC and g.817GT in SN and GZ breeds, and g.9760GC in the three goat breeds. The g.769TC and g.817GT loci were closely linked (r(2) 0.33). All the single nucleotide polymorphism loci were in Hardy-Weinberg disequilibrium (P 0.05). Significant associations were found for litter size with all three loci. Therefore, these results suggest that the KITLG gene is a strong candidate gene affecting litter size in goats.

A new method for the diagnostics of charged particle beams by employing localized space‐charge waves is presented. The propagation of space‐charge waves in the form of localized perturbations can be measured easily and accurately in experiments. The results carry valuable information about many beam parameters such as the wave speed, the geometry factor g for the longitudinal space‐charge field, the beam radius, the beam impedance under longitudinal perturbations, etc. The principle of this technique and an experimental example are given in this article.

The gracefulness of a large class of lobster trees is proven, which is related to Bermond's conjecture on the gracefulness of that class of lobster trees.

Langmuir collapse in a radiation‐driven plasma is simulated in one dimension using both the hybrid Vlasov model and the modified Zakharov model. In the hybrid model, the electrons are described by the Vlasov equation and the ions are described by the fluid equations. Two numerical runs with different parameters are performed: (a) a weakly driven case, and (b) a strongly driven case. The comparisons of the results between the two models for each case are carried out in detail. It is found that the dynamic behavior of the plasma can be changed dramatically by varying the external driving field. The electron temperature increases only ∼10% in the weakly driven case, while it increases ∼200% in the strongly driven case during a single Langmuir collapse. The two models agree with each other during the first collapse after the saturation of modulational instability. Dynamic differences appear after the first collapse, caused by the electron heating in the hybrid model, which is not accounted for in the standard isothermal Zakharov model.

We have evaluated the Commerce Department's Composite Index of Leading Indicators as a predictor of business cycle turning points using the two-state Markov switching model as the filter. Contrary to some recent studies, we found that the predictive performance of CLI is quite good and, with an exception of the 1973:11 peak, it made very little difference to the prediction of turning points whether real-time data are used instead of the revised series. We found, however, that imposing any degree of autoregression in the errors on the simple regime-shift model caused the filter to signal turning points inappropriately. Also, we found no evidence of duration dependence in post-war U.S. business cycles.

High-spin states in ${}^{139}$Pm are investigated via the ${}^{116}$Cd(${}^{27}$Al, 4$n$)${}^{139}$Pm fusion-evaporation reaction at a beam energy of 120 MeV. The previously reported level scheme has been modified because of identifications of some linking and doublet transitions. The revised yrast $\ensuremath{\pi}{h}_{11/2}$ band obviously undergoes $\ensuremath{\pi}{h}_{11/2}$ $\ensuremath{\rightarrow}$ $\ensuremath{\pi}{({h}_{11/2})}^{3}$ $\ensuremath{\rightarrow}$ $\ensuremath{\pi}{({h}_{11/2})}^{3}$$\ensuremath{\bigotimes}$$\ensuremath{\nu}{({h}_{11/2})}^{\ensuremath{-}2}$ band crossings at $\ensuremath{\hbar}\ensuremath{\omega}=0.45$ and 0.39 MeV. Two negative-parity dipole bands have been assigned as $\ensuremath{\pi}{h}_{11/2}$$\ensuremath{\bigotimes}$$\ensuremath{\nu}{({h}_{11/2})}^{\ensuremath{-}2}$ and $\ensuremath{\pi}{h}_{11/2}$$\ensuremath{\bigotimes}$$\ensuremath{\nu}{({h}_{11/2})}^{\ensuremath{-}4}$ configurations, respectively, and can be considered as examples of magnetic rotational bands.

In this study, suppressive subtractive hybridization (SSH) was performed to screen differentially expressed genes in ovarian tissues between polytocous and monotocous goats. From the SSH cDNA library, we obtained 29 differentially expressed sequence tags (ESTs) that have high similarity with known genes in the public database, which were involved in signal transduction, transcriptional regulation, cellular molecular dynamics, cytoskeleton, metabolism and oxidation-reduction. In addition, one novel EST that has no similarity with known genes in the public database was obtained. Eight ESTs, TIMP1, NUCB1, OAZ1, CXXC5, CAPNS2, ATP5A1, Z and RPL5, were further examined for the reproducibility of the SSH data by the real-time quantitative PCR. The results confirmed an increased expression of respective mRNA in ovarian tissues of polytocous goats compared with those of monotocous goats. The study has identified several genes (known or unknown) that may have effect on follicular development, ovulation and egg activation in goats.

Difficulty in collecting lymph samples in small animals has impeded studies on lymphatic function and lymph composition. Here we report a simple and effective modified rat model for thoracic duct lymph drainage where animals remain in full consciousness and have free movement and access to water and food over 12 hours. The operative procedure required approximately 30 minutes to perform. Mean lymph drainage was 0.71 +/- 0.33 ml/h, and protein concentration did not change significantly (mean 37 +/- 2.59 mg/ml) over the 12 hours. However, the number of lymphocytes fluctuated widely between 0.08 +/- 0.03 x 10(6)/ml and 12.17 +/- 6.58 x 10(6)/ml. This modified animal model of thoracic duct lymph collection avoids influences of lipid intake, general anesthesia, or limited activity of animals on experimental outcomes, and therefore more accurately reflects lymph flow and composition under normal physiological conditions.

State-selective and total single-electron-capture cross sections in collisions of H${}^{+}$ with the excited Li${}^{*}$(2p) atom have been investigated by using the full quantum-mechanical molecular orbital close-coupling (QMOCC) method in the energy range 0.001--3 keV/u and by the two-center atomic orbital close-coupling (TC-AOCC) method in the energy range 0.1--100 keV/u. The present results are also compared with data from other sources when available. It is found that the total and partial electron-capture cross sections are sensitive to the initial p-state charge cloud alignment, particularly in the low-energy region.

Excited states of the stable nucleus {sup 195}Pt have been studied using an in-beam {gamma}-ray spectroscopic technique following the incomplete fusion of {sup 7}Li on an {sup 192}Os target at 44 MeV. A level scheme built on the I{sup {pi}=}13/2{sup +} isomer has been established up to I{sup {pi}=}33/2{sup -} at an excitation energy of about 2.6 MeV. Spin and parity values of these states have been assigned from an analysis of anisotropy ratios of {gamma} rays and by analogy with the neighboring nuclei. A comparison of the observed structures with the yrast states in the neighboring even-even {sup 196}Pt core indicates that the identified levels may be regarded as arising from the weak coupling of a {nu}i{sub 13/2} neutron hole to the core states.

Theoretical calculations have been made for the dielectronic recombination (DR) rate coefficients of Sn${}^{12+}$ ion using a relativistic flexible atomic code with configuration interaction. Comparison of the rate coefficients for $4s$, $4p$, and $4d$ subshell excitation shows that while the $4p$ subshell excitation dominates over the whole temperature region, $4d$ subshell excitation at low temperature and $4s$ subshell excitation at high temperature cannot be neglected. In order to facilitate simple applications, the calculated DR rate coefficients are fitted to an empirical formula. The total DR rate coefficient is greater than either the radiative recombination or three-body recombination coefficients for electron temperatures greater than 1 eV. Therefore, DR can strongly influence the ionization balance of laser-produced tin plasmas.

Excited states in the stable nucleus $^{193}\mathrm{Ir}$ have been investigated through an in-beam $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray spectroscopic technique following the $^{192}\mathrm{Os}$($^{7}\mathrm{Li}$, $\ensuremath{\alpha}2n$) reaction at a beam energy of 44 MeV. A level scheme built on the $\ensuremath{\pi}{h}_{11/2}$ isomer has been extended to high-spin states using eleven newly observed $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ transitions. The $\ensuremath{\pi}{h}_{11/2}$ band is proposed to be formed by coupling an ${h}_{11/2}$ proton to a core with large triaxial deformation. Three-quasiparticle states are suggested in $^{193}\mathrm{Ir}$ on referring to the similar states in $^{187}\mathrm{Ir}$. The features of signature splitting in the $\ensuremath{\pi}{h}_{11/2}$ bands of ${}^{187\ensuremath{-}193}$Ir are discussed with the help of total Routhian surface calculations.

Polarization spectroscopy of He${}^{+}$($\mathit{nl}$) ion produced in He${}^{2+}$-H(1$s$) collisions in a Debye plasma is studied by the two-center atomic orbital close-coupling (TC-AOCC) method in the energy range 1--200 keV/u. The atomic orbitals and electron binding energies of atomic states are calculated within the Debye-H\"uckel approximation of the screened Coulomb potential and used in the AOCC dynamics formalism to calculate the magnetic substate-selective electron-capture cross sections. It is demonstrated that the screening of Coulomb interactions affects the entire collision dynamics and the magnitude and energy behavior of $m$-state-selective cross sections. The changes in magnetic substate-selective electron-capture cross sections when the interaction screening varies introduce dramatic changes in the polarization spectroscopy with respect to the unscreened interaction case. The magnetic substate-selective electron-capture cross sections, as well as the polarization degrees for the $2p {}^{2}{P}_{3/2}$--$1s {}^{2}{S}_{1/2},3p {}^{2}{P}_{3/2}$--$2s {}^{2}{S}_{1/2},3d {}^{2}{D}_{5/2}$--$2p {}^{2}{P}_{3/2}$, and $3d {}^{2}{D}_{3/2}$--$2p {}^{2}{P}_{1/2}$ transitions in the He${}^{+}$ ion produced in this collision system, are presented and discussed for a number of representative screening parameter values.

To study the effect of hypothermia on kinesin and MAP2 activities after cerebral ischemia in gerbils, and investigate the relationship between changes of their activities and DND.Immunoreactivity of kinesin and MAP2 were determined by immunohistochemical study in combination with computer image analysis system, and DND were assayed by histological examination.Hypothermia significantly reduced DND after cerebral ischemia. Immunoreactivities of MAP2 and kinesin progressively decreased during forebrain ischemia-reperfusion, and the decreasing of kinesin activity was greater than that of MAP2 in the same reperfusion time. Hypothermia obviously mitigate the decreasing degree of MAP2 and kinesin activity after cerebral ischemia. The decreasing degree of kinesin activity was consistent with that of DND during cerebral ischemia/reperfusion in gerbils.Hypothermia significantly reduced DND after cerebral ischemia, which might be related to the improvement of kinesin activity after cerebral ischemia reperfusion in gerbils.
