As the volume of data continues to grow, the significance of text classification is on the rise. This vast amount of data majorly exists in the form of texts. Effective data preparation is essential to extract sentiment data from this vast amount of text, as irrelevant and redundant information can impede valuable insights. Feature selection is an important step in the data preparation phase as it eliminates irrelevant and insignificant features from the huge features set. There exist a large body of work related to feature selection for image processing but limited research is done for text data. While some studies recognize the significance of feature selection in text classification, but there is still need for more efficient sentiment analysis models that optimize feature selection and reduce computational. This manuscript aims to bridge these gaps by introducing a hybrid multi-objective evolutionary algorithm as a feature selection mechanism, combining the power of multiple objectives and evolutionary processes. The approach combines two feature selection techniques within a binary classification model: a filter method, Information Gain (IG), and an evolutionary wrapper method, Binary Multi-Objective Grey Wolf Optimizer (BMOGWO). Experimental evaluations are conducted across six diverse datasets. It achieves a reduction of over 90 percent in feature size while improving accuracy by nearly nine percent. These results showcase the model's efficiency in terms of computational time and its efficacy in terms of higher classification accuracy which improves sentiment analysis performance. This improvement can be beneficial for various applications, including recommendation systems, reviews analysis, and public opinion observation. Joint segmentation and registration of images is a focused area of research nowadays. Jointly segmenting and registering noisy images and images having weak boundaries/intensity inhomogeneity is a challenging task. In medical image processing, joint segmentation and registration are essential methods that aid in distinguishing structures and aligning images for precise diagnosis and therapy. However, these methods encounter challenges, such as computational complexity and sensitivity to variations in image quality, which may reduce their effectiveness in real-world applications. Another major issue is still attaining effective joint segmentation and registration in the presence of artifacts or anatomical deformations. In this paper, a new nonparametric joint model is proposed for the segmentation and registration of multi-modality images having weak boundaries/noise. For segmentation purposes, the model will be utilizing local binary fitting data term and for registration, it is utilizing conditional mutual information. For regularization of the model, we are using linear curvature. The new proposed model is more efficient to segmenting and registering multi-modality images having intensity inhomogeneity, noise and/or weak boundaries. The proposed model is also tested on the images obtained from the freely available CHOAS dataset and compare the results of the proposed model with the other existing models using statistical measures such as the Jaccard similarity index, relative reduction, Dice similarity coefficient and Hausdorff distance. The human-computer interaction process is a vital task in attaining artificial intelligence, especially for a person suffering from hearing or speaking disabilities. Recognizing actions more traditionally known as sign language is a common way for them to interact. Computer vision and Deep learning models are capable of understanding these actions and can simulate them to build up a sustainable learning process. This sign language mechanism will be helpful for both the persons with disabilities and the machines to unbound the gap to achieve intelligence. Therefore, in the proposed work, a real-time sign language system is introduced that is capable of identifying numbers ranging from 0 to 9. The database is acquired from the 8 different subjects respectively and processed to achieve approximately 200k amount of data. Further, a deep learning model named LSTM is used for sign recognition. The results were compared with different approaches and on distinct databases proving the supremacy of the proposed work with 91.50% accuracy. Addressing issues such as a low operational condition recognition efficiency, strong subjectivity, and significant fluctuations in Outotec X fluorescence analysis data in copper flotation production, a copper concentrate grade classification model is constructed based on image processing technology and the Stacking ensemble learning algorithm. Firstly, a feature extraction model for copper concentration flotation foam images is established, extracting color, texture, and size statistical features to build a feature dataset. Secondly, to avoid redundancy in the feature data, which could reduce model accuracy, a combined correlation feature selection is employed for dimensionality reduction, with the filtered feature subset being used as the model input. Finally, to fully leverage the strengths of each model, a Stacking ensemble learning copper concentrate grade classification model is constructed with support vector machine (SVM), random forest (RF), and adaptive boosting (AdaBoost) as base models and logistic regression (LR) as the meta-model. The experimental results show that this ensemble model achieves good recognition for different grade categories, with a precision, recall, and F1 score of 90.01%, 89.85%, and 89.93%, respectively. The accuracy of this Stacking ensemble model, with a 7% improvement over Outotec X fluorescence analysis, demonstrates a potential to meet the daily production needs of beneficiation plants. Numerous technologies and systems, including autonomous vehicles, surveillance systems, and robotic applications, rely on the capability to accurately detect pedestrians to ensure their safety. As the demand for realtime object detection continues to rise, many researchers have dedicated their efforts to developing effective and trustworthy algorithms for pedestrian recognition. By integrating learning complexity-aware cascades with an enhanced you only look once (YOLO) algorithm, the paper presents a real-time system for identifying both items and pedestrians. The performance of the proposed approach is evaluated using the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Toyota Technological Institute (KITTI) pedestrian dataset across both the v4 and v8 versions of the YOLO framework. Prioritizing both speed and accuracy, the enhanced YOLO algorithm outperforms its baseline counterpart. The demonstrated superiority of the suggested technique on the KITTI pedestrian dataset underscores its effectiveness in real-world contexts. Furthermore, the complexity-aware learning cascades contribute to a streamlined detection model without compromising performance. In the past few years, significant advancements in microscopic imaging technology have led to the production of numerous high-resolution images capturing brain neurons at the micrometer scale. The reconstructed structure of neurons from neuronal images can serve as a valuable reference for research in brain diseases and neuroscience. Currently, there lacks an accurate and efficient method for neuron reconstruction. Manual reconstruction remains the primary approach, offering high accuracy but requiring significant time investment. While some automatic reconstruction methods are faster, they often sacrifice accuracy and cannot be directly relied upon. Therefore, the primary goal of this paper is to develop a neuron reconstruction tool that is both efficient and accurate. The tool aids users in reconstructing complete neurons by calculating the confidence of branches during the reconstruction process. The method models the neuron reconstruction as multiple Markov chains, and calculates the confidence of the connections between branches by simulating the reconstruction artifacts in the results. Users iteratively modify low-confidence branches to ensure precise and efficient neuron reconstruction. Experiments on both the publicly accessible BigNeuron dataset and a self-created Whole-Brain dataset demonstrate that the tool achieves high accuracy similar to manual reconstruction, while significantly reducing reconstruction time. The significance of environmental considerations has been highlighted by the substantial impact of plant pests on ecosystems. Addressing the urgent demand for sophisticated pest management solutions in arboreal environments, this study leverages advanced deep learning technologies to accurately detect and classify common tree pests, such as "mole cricket", "aphids", and "Therioaphis maculata (Buckton)". Through comparative analysis with the baseline model ResNet-18 model, this research not only enhances the SE-RegNetY and SE-RegNet models but also introduces innovative frameworks, including GCT-Inception-ResNet-V3, SE-Inception-ResNet-V3, and SE-Inception-RegNetY-V3 models. Notably, the GCT-Inception-ResNet-V3 model demonstrates exceptional performance, achieving a remarkable average overall accuracy of 94.59%, average kappa coefficient of 91.90%, average mAcc of 94.60%, and average mIoU of 89.80%. These results signify substantial progress over conventional methods, outperforming the baseline model's results by margins of 9.1%, nearly 13.7%, 9.1%, and almost 15% in overall accuracy, kappa coefficient, mAcc, and mIoU, respectively. This study signifies a considerable step forward in blending sustainable agricultural practices with environmental conservation, setting new benchmarks in agricultural pest management. Nowadays, many image processing and machine learning (ML) methods are used in mango-quality classification systems. Existing algorithms perform independently to capture the relationships between features in the dataset. Nevertheless, each method has its advantages and disadvantages. As a result, this study presents an ensemble-learning framework that combines the strengths of multiple ML algorithms to make predictions. Initially, different image processing algorithms are used to extract external mango features. Next, the dataset is constructed by combining those features with weight values from sensor signals. Following that, different ML algorithms are evaluated on the dataset to determine which ones are robust. Subsequently, various ensemble-learning approaches are deployed, such as bagging, boosting, and stacking. Finally, those models are evaluated and compared, to decide which model is suited for this study's dataset. In the experimental part, the assessment of errors demonstrates the usefulness of image processing algorithms. Furthermore, evaluation of the training models revealed that the stacking model, which integrates several methods in both the base learner and meta-learner, produced the highest results in precision, recall, F1-score, and accuracy, with values of 0.9855, 0.9901, 0.9876, and 0.9863, respectively. Ground objects in satellite images pose unique challenges due to their low resolution, small pixel size, lack of texture features, and dense distribution. Detecting small objects in satellite remote-sensing images is a difficult task. We propose a new detector focusing on contextual information and multi-scale feature fusion. Inspired by the notion that surrounding context information can aid in identifying small objects, we propose a lightweight context convolution block based on dilated convolutions and integrate it into the convolutional neural network (CNN). We integrate dynamic convolution blocks during the feature fusion step to enhance the high-level feature upsampling. An attention mechanism is employed to focus on the salient features of objects. We have conducted a series of experiments to validate the effectiveness of our proposed model. Notably, the proposed model achieved a 3.5% mean average precision (mAP) improvement on the satellite object detection dataset. Another feature of our approach is lightweight design. We employ group convolution to reduce the computational cost in the proposed contextual convolution module. Compared to the baseline model, our method reduces the number of parameters by 30%, computational cost by 34%, and an FPS rate close to the baseline model. We develop a new deconvolution method to recover the precise Crab Nebula image taken by the Hitomi HXT, suppressing the artifact due to the bright Crab pulsar. We extend the Richardson–Lucy method, introducing two components corresponding to the nebula and pulsar with regularization for smoothness and flux, respectively, and performing simultaneous deconvolution of multi-pulse-phase images. The structures, including the torus and jets, seen in the deconvolved nebula image at the lowest energy band of 3.6–15 keV appear consistent with those identified in the high-resolution Chandra X-ray image. Above 15 keV, we confirm NuSTAR's findings that the nebula size decreases in higher energy bands. We find that the north-east side of the nebula is fainter in higher energy bands. In the medical image processing domain, deep learning methodologies have outstanding performance for disease classification using digital images such as X‐rays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and computerized tomography (CT). However, accurate diagnosis of disease by medical personnel can be challenging in certain cases, such as the complexity of interpretation and non‐availability of expert personnel, difficulty at pixel‐level analysis, etc. Computer‐aided diagnostic (CAD) systems with proper training have shown the potential to enhance diagnostic accuracy and efficiency. With the exponential growth of medical data, CAD systems can analyze and extract valuable information by assisting medical personnel during the disease diagnostic process. To overcome these challenges, this research introduces CX‐RaysNet, a novel deep‐learning framework designed for the automatic identification of various lung disease classes in digital chest X‐ray images. The core novelty of the CX‐RaysNet framework lies in the integration of both convolutional and group convolutional layers, along with the usage of small filter sizes and the incorporation of dropout regularization. This phenomenon helps us optimize the model's ability to distinguish minute features that reveal different lung diseases. Additionally, data augmentation techniques are implemented to augment the training and testing datasets, which enhances the model's robustness and generalizability. The performance evaluation of CX‐RaysNet reveals promising results, with the proposed model achieving a multi‐class classification accuracy of 97.25%. The convolutional neural network-based deep generative model (DGM) is a powerful tool for handling image datasets that opens up strategies for fast synthesis of optimum designs at unseen boundary conditions. Existing DGMs for design synthesis are typically based on O (10000) training data, which limits the engineering applications. This paper explores the feasibility of improving DGM data efficiency with O (100) training data through prior constraints. A two-stage data-efficient deep generative model (DE-DGM) is proposed which leverages the first-stage design synthesis from probabilistic proper orthogonal decomposition and the second-stage enhancement from encoder-decoder convolutional neural network. Four topology optimization cases have been adopted, including compliance minimization, heat conduction, airplane bearing bracket design, and three-dimensional machine tool column structure design. The proposed DE-DGMs could be trained with 100–200 data and synthesize the main features of the design at unseen boundary conditions. Radiological image analysis using machine learning has been extensively applied to enhance biopsy diagnosis accuracy and assist radiologists with precise cures. With improvements in the medical industry and its technology, computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) systems have been essential in detecting early cancer signs in patients that could not be observed physically, exclusive of introducing errors. CAD is a detection system that combines artificially intelligent techniques with image processing applications thru computer vision. Several manual procedures are reported in state of the art for cancer diagnosis. Still, they are costly, time-consuming and diagnose cancer in late stages such as CT scans, radiography, and MRI scan. In this research, numerous state-of-the-art approaches on multi-organs detection using clinical practices are evaluated, such as cancer, neurological, psychiatric, cardiovascular and abdominal imaging. Additionally, numerous sound approaches are clustered together and their results are assessed and compared on benchmark datasets. Standard metrics such as accuracy, sensitivity, specificity and false-positive rate are employed to check the validity of the current models reported in the literature. Introduction:Image quality and acquisition protocol adherence assessment is a neglected area in teledermatology. We examine if it is feasible to use deep learning methods to automate the assessment of the adherence of examinations to image acquisition protocols. In this study, we focused on the quality criteria of two image acquisition protocols: (1) approximation image and (2) panoramic image, as these are present in all teledermatology examination protocols currently used by the Santa Catarina State Integrated Telemedicine and Telehealth System (STT/SC). Methods:We use a data set of 36,102 teledermatological examinations performed at the STT/SC during 2021. As our validation process, we adopted standard machine learning metrics and an inter-rater agreement (IRA) study with 11 dermatologists. For the approximation image protocol, we used the Mask-Region based Convolutional Neural Network (RCNN) Object Detection Deep Learning (DL) architecture to identify the presence of a lesion identification tag and a ruler used to provide a frame reference of the lesion. For the panoramic image protocol, we used DensePose, a pose estimation DL, architecture to assess the presence of a whole patient body and its orientation. A combination of the two approaches was additionally validated through an IRA study between specialists. Results:Mask-RCNN achieved a score of 96% mean average precision (mAP), while DensePose presented 75% mAP. IRA achieved a level of agreement of 96.68% with the Krippendorff alpha score. Conclusions:Our results show the feasibility of using deep learning to automate the image quality and protocol adherence assessment in teledermatology, before the specialist's manual analysis of the examination. The accurate online detection of laser welding penetration depth has been a critical problem to which the industry has paid the most attention. Aiming at the laser welding process of TC4 titanium alloy, a multi-sensor monitoring system that obtained the keyhole/molten pool images and laser-induced plasma spectrum was built. The influences of laser power on the keyhole/molten pool morphologies and plasma thermo-mechanical characteristics were investigated. The results showed that there were significant correlations among the variations of the keyhole–molten pool, plasma spectrum, and penetration depth. The image features and spectral features were extracted by image processing and dimension-reduction methods, respectively. Moreover, several penetration depth prediction models based on single-sensor features and multi-sensor features were established. The mean square error of the neural network model built by multi-sensor features was 0.0162, which was smaller than that of the model built by single-sensor features. This study presents a methodology to prevent the overdesign of electric dispensers for dental impression materials by analyzing the necessary load and determining the appropriate pressurization speed and drive motor capacity. We derived an equation to calculate the required torque and rotational speed of the motor based on the extrusion load and the speed of the impression material. A specialized load measurement system was developed to measure the load necessary to extrude the impression material. Through experiments and image processing, we measured the radius of curvature of the trajectory of the impression material and correlated it with the pressurization speed. Techniques such as position coordinate plotting, curve fitting, and circle fitting were employed to determine the pressurization speed that aligns with the manufacturer's recommended curvature radius. These findings led to a substantial decrease in the necessary motor torque and rotational speed compared with the current standards. This research provides a systematic approach to sizing drive motors using extrusion load and pressurization speed, aiming to reduce overdesign, power consumption, and the weight and size of the motor and battery, thereby contributing to the development of more efficient and compact dental impression material dispensers. The canopy height model (CHM) derived from LiDAR point cloud data is usually used to accurately identify the position and the canopy dimension of single tree. However, local invalid values (also called data pits) are often encountered during the generation of CHM, which results in low-quality CHM and failure in the detection of treetops. For this reason, this paper proposes an innovative method, called "pixels weighted differential gradient", to filter these data pits accurately and improve the quality of CHM. First, two characteristic parameters, gradient index (GI) and Z-score value (ZV) are extracted from the weighted differential gradient between the pit pixels and their eight neighbors, and then GIs and ZVs are commonly used as criterion for initial identification of data pits. Secondly, CHMs of different resolutions are merged, using the image processing algorithm developed in this paper to distinguish either canopy gaps or data pits. Finally, potential pits were filtered and filled with a reasonable value. The experimental validation and comparative analysis were carried out in a coniferous forest located in Triangle Lake, United States. The experimental results showed that our method could accurately identify potential data pits and retain the canopy structure information in CHM. The root-mean-squared error (RMSE) and mean bias error (MBE) from our method are reduced by between 73% and 26% and 76% and 28%, respectively, when compared with six other methods, including the mean filter, Gaussian filter, median filter, pit-free, spike-free and graph-based progressive morphological filtering (GPMF). Recently, with the remarkable advancements of deep learning in the field of image processing, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have garnered widespread attention from researchers in the domain of hyperspectral image (HSI) classification. Moreover, due to the high performance demonstrated by the transformer architecture in classification tasks, there has been a proliferation of neural networks combining CNNs and transformers for HSI classification. However, the majority of the current methods focus on extracting spatial–spectral features from the HSI data of a single size for a pixel, overlooking the rich multi-scale feature information inherent to the data. To address this problem, we designed a novel transformer network with a CNN-enhanced cross-attention (TNCCA) mechanism for HSI classification. It is a dual-branch network that utilizes different scales of HSI input data to extract shallow spatial–spectral features using a multi-scale 3D and 2D hybrid convolutional neural network. After converting the feature maps into tokens, a series of 2D convolutions and dilated convolutions are employed to generate two sets of Q (queries), K (keys), and V (values) at different scales in a cross-attention module. This transformer with CNN-enhanced cross-attention explores multi-scale CNN-enhanced features and fuses them from both branches. Experimental evaluations conducted on three widely used hyperspectral image (HSI) datasets, under the constraint of limited sample size, demonstrate excellent classification performance of the proposed network. Each year, numerous tornadoes occur in forested regions of the United States. Due to the substantial number of fallen trees and accessibility issues, many of these tornadoes remain poorly documented and evaluated. The process of documenting tree damage to assess tornado intensity is known as the treefall method, an established and reliable technique for estimating near-surface wind speed. Consequently, the demand for documenting fallen trees has increased in recent years. However, the treefall method proves to be extremely expensive and time-consuming, requiring a laborious assessment of each treefall instance. This research proposes a novel approach to evaluating treefall in large, forested regions using deep learning-based automated detection and advanced image processing techniques. The developed treefall method relies on high-resolution aerial imagery from a damaged forest and involves three main steps: (1) instance segmentation detection, (2) estimating tree taper and predicting fallen tree directions, and (3) obtaining subsampled treefall vector results indicating the predominant flow direction in geospatial coordinates. To demonstrate the method's effectiveness, the algorithm was applied to a tornado track rated EF-4, which occurred on 10 December 2021, cutting through the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area in Kentucky. Upon observation of the predicted results, the model is demonstrated to accurately predict the predominant treefall angles. The degradation of road pavements due to environmental factors is a pressing issue in infrastructure maintenance, necessitating precise identification of pavement distresses. The pavement condition index (PCI) serves as a critical metric for evaluating pavement conditions, essential for effective budget allocation and performance tracking. Traditional manual PCI assessment methods are limited by labor intensity, subjectivity, and susceptibility to human error. Addressing these challenges, this paper presents a novel, end-to-end automated method for PCI calculation, integrating deep learning and image processing technologies. The first stage employs a deep learning algorithm for accurate detection of pavement cracks, followed by the application of a segmentation-based skeleton algorithm in image processing to estimate crack width precisely. This integrated approach enhances the assessment process, providing a more comprehensive evaluation of pavement integrity. The validation results demonstrate a 95% accuracy in crack detection and 90% accuracy in crack width estimation. Leveraging these results, the automated PCI rating is achieved, aligned with standards, showcasing significant improvements in the efficiency and reliability of PCI evaluations. Images obtained in an unfavorable environment may be affected by haze or fog, leading to fuzzy image details, low contrast, and loss of important information. Recently, significant progress has been achieved in the realm of image dehazing, largely due to the adoption of deep learning techniques. Owing to the lack of modules specifically designed to learn the unique characteristics of haze, existing deep neural network-based methods are impractical for processing images containing haze. In addition, most networks primarily focus on learning clear image information while disregarding potential features in hazy images. To address these limitations, we propose an innovative method called contrastive multiscale transformer for image dehazing (CMT-Net). This method uses the multiscale transformer to enable the network to learn global hazy features at multiple scales. Furthermore, we introduce feature combination attention and a haze-aware module to enhance the network's ability to handle varying concentrations of haze by assigning more weight to regions containing haze. Finally, we design a multistage contrastive learning loss incorporating different positive and negative samples at various stages to guide the network's learning process to restore real and non-hazy images. Intelligent electrospun pH indicators were produced from bio‐nanocomposite kafirin‐polyethylene oxide (PEO) containing red beetroot extract. The aim was to evaluate the performance and stability of the electrospun pH indicators via image processing. Red beetroot extract was added to a mixture of kafirin and PEO at various concentrations. The mixtures were electrospun, and infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy confirmed the presence of kafirin, PEO, and red beetroot extract in the resulting pH indicator. The results showed that the pH indicators had high stability and reversibility at different temperatures, pHs, and environmental conditions. The results showed that the color of the indicators was significantly reversible after pH changes, with highly desirable reversibility observed at pH values of 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, and 10. The findings proved that the red beetroot extract loaded bio‐nanocomposite pH indicator accompanied by evaluation of color characteristics through image processing technique, can serve as a time‐efficient, accurate tool for detecting and tracking pH changes caused by food spoilage. Deep convolutional neural networks based remote sensing change detection has recently shown significant performance improvement. However, small region changes and global‐local features in high‐resolution remote sensing images are not fully explored. This paper introduces a hybrid U‐shaped and transformer network for change detection in high‐resolution remote sensing images. Specifically, a UNet++‐based backbone to facilitate feature learning across different scales. In addition, we introduce a transformer‐based feature fusion module for extracting long‐range dependencies, which can enhance the representation ability of the network. Furthermore, the introduced efficient channel attention mechanism can efficiently calibrate the feature representation and concentrate on more important feature information. Thanks to the above designs, the proposed method enjoys a strong ability to extract local and global features for remote sensing change detection. Extensive experimental results on different remote sensing images show that our method can achieve superior performance in comparison with state‐of‐the‐art change detection methods. Firstly, the Canny operator combined with circle fitting is used to position the working surface. Secondly, the median filter and the Laplacian operator are selected for preprocessing. Due to uneven illumination, surface texture, or environmental dust, the extracted scratches exhibit fragmentation, and traditional morphological operations cannot handle scratches well, so an improved Canny operator combined with probabilistic Hough transform is proposed for scratch connection. A bidirectional connection is introduced to optimize the edge detection process of the Canny operator, and a parallel algorithm is introduced to shorten the detection time. Finally, the standard Hough transform needs to traverse the entire parameter space, and the calculation is complicated, and the probability Hough transform is selected. The experimental results show that compared with the traditional Canny algorithm, the precision, recall, and F1‐score of the improved Canny algorithm are increased by 3.2%, 13.2%, and 6.0%, respectively. After adding parallel processing, the average detection time was reduced by 45 ms. Finally, the accuracy of scratches extracted using this algorithm reached 97.96%, the leak rate, and mistake rate of this study are only 3.33% and 2.00%, which provides a more accurate and efficient theoretical support for the research on brake disc scratch detection. In recent years, the task of maritime emergency rescue has increased, while the cost of time for traditional methods of search and rescue is pretty long with poor effect subject to the constraints of the complex circumstances around the sea, the effective conditions, and the support capability. This paper applies deep learning and proposes a YOLOv5s‐SwinDS algorithm for target detection in distress at sea. Firstly, the backbone network of the YOLOv5s algorithm is replaced by swin transformer, and a multi‐level feature fusion module is introduced to enhance the feature expression ability for maritime targets. Secondly, deformable convolutional networks v2 (DCNv2) is used instead of traditional convolution to improve the recognition capability for irregular targets when the neck network features are output. Finally, the CIoU loss function is replaced with SIoU to reduce the redundant box effectively while accelerating the convergence and regression of the predicted box. Experimenting on the publicly dataset SeaDronesSee, the Precision$Precision$, Recall$Recall$, mAP0.5$mAP_{0.5}$ and mAP0.5−0.95$mAP_{0.5-0.95}$ of YOLOv5s‐SwinDS model are 87.9%, 75.8%, 79.1% and 42.9%, respectively, which get higher results than the original YOLOv5s model, the YOLOv7 series of models, and the YOLOv8 series of models. Computer vision‐based fire detection algorithms have been extensively researched over the past decades as they offer reliable and efficient solutions to early fire detection, as well as economical solutions in outdoor environments. The proposed systems have different levels of complexity; nevertheless, they rely heavily on colour based fire segmentation as the first processing stage using different colour spaces. This paper presents a new flame‐based colour space which accentuates the difference between fire and non‐fire pixel values. The hybrid Artificial Bee Colony‐Teaching Learning‐based Optimisation (ABC‐TLBO) and the k‐medoids clustering algorithm along with a Feature image constructed manually from a wide dataset of fire and non‐fire pixels were used to deduce the optimised colour space conversion matrix. The latter can then be used to transform the RGB pixels from a camera feed into the new Flame‐based colour space for a more efficient fire segmentation. The proposed colour space is capable to separate fire and non‐fire pixels into two intensity classes, whereby the resulting between‐class variance is significantly widened; this maximises the effectiveness of the binary thresholding to separate fire from non‐fire pixels. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed flame‐based colour space provides a superior average qualitative and quantitative performance on benchmark datasets compared to state‐of‐the‐art colour models; a 20% average increase in F1 score demonstrates a better balance between fire detection and false alarm rates. Moreover, the computation time of the fire detection system is faster by 15.6% in average. The proposed system provides a better implementation of the colour‐based fire segmentation processing stage in vision‐based fire detection systems; it vindicates, in this application context, the superiority of flame‐tuned colour space over conventional ones. Aircraft coating process has been an important part in manufacturing process of modern aviation products. For coating defect detection, the manual observation with naked eyes is usually utilized, which leads to low production efficiency. In this paper, the authors propose the improved YOLOv5‐OBB with the channel‐spatial attention block (CSAB), feature pyramid non‐local module (FPNM) and structured sparsity slimming criterion (SSSC). The CSAB can pay more attention to effective channel information features from the channel dimension and the target information area from the spatial dimension. The effective non‐local module called FPNM is proposed to further improve the detection accuracy. The authors utilize the oriented bounding boxes (OBB) to reduce redundant background information for coating defect detection. In addition, the SSSC is proposed to achieve network slimming and trade‐off between the efficiency and accuracy. In open networks, the geometric deformation and common image processing are common image manipulation modes, which pose a great challenge in robust watermarking. To improve the robustness of GRHFM‐based watermarking, a watermarking algorithm based on the fast GRHFM calculation method and ant colony optimization (ACO) based fractional parameter selection method is proposed. With the similarity between the discrete Fourier transform and GRHFM moment calculation, the algorithm utilizes fast Fourier transform to improve the GRHFM calculation accuracy and speed. To select the optimal GRHFM fractional parameter for watermarking algorithm, ACO is introduced to the fractional parameter adaptive selection method. Here, the fast Fourier transform‐based calculation method is combined with the adaptive parameter selection method to maximize the invisibility and robustness of watermarking. This paper proposes a new method for hierarchical image segmentation based on the nonsymetry and anti‐packing pattern representation model (NAM) and the hierarchical density‐based spatial clustering of application with noise (HDBSCAN). The proposed framework consists of two phases. In the first phase, a super‐pixel generation algorithm base on NAM is proposed. In the second phase, instead of defining an affinity matrix to merge similar regions using spatial clustering, the distance matrix defined by different region features is directly fitted into an HDBSCAN clustering module in order to merge similar regions efficiently. Similar adjacent regions can be merged into larger ones progressively and form a segmentation dendrogram for image segmentation with the clustering module. The experiments show that the proposed algorithm has a comparable or even better performance compared to the state‐of‐the‐art hierarchical image segmentation algorithms while having much less time and memory consumption. More accurate methods for crop row detection benefit intelligent operation of agricultural machinery, especially avoiding mishandling or crushing crops. For achieving such a target, a traditional method combining the ExGR exponents, Otsu algorithm, Canny method, Hough transform and DBSCAN clustering analysis is proposed so that centerlines of crop rows can be detected effectively without manual intervention. Specifically, ExGR exponents are first adopted to gray green plants. The threshold of binarization will be further obtained by the Otsu algorithm. Further adopting the edge detection algorithm (Canny), edges of crops can be determined. Finally, combining the Hough transform and DBSCAN clustering analysis, the crop row detection is effectively available. Utilizing these methods, numerical simulation and their comparisons with existing methods are also achieved. For example, the Canny algorithm is relatively accurate than the Suzuki algorithm as well as their combinations with a geometric center extraction method if the density of weed is high. Compared with the K‐means clustering method, the DBSCAN algorithm is more suitable to characterize crop rows optimally in more complex conditions. The quality of the rebar thread head is crucial for the connection between the rebars, thereby affecting the public safety of the building. The edge extraction of the thread image is the most important step in obtaining the accurate size parameters, which helps to complete online inspection of quality. Here, an edge detection method based on improved Canny operator is proposed to solve the problems on sensitivity to noise, existence of false edges, and lack of self‐adaptability. Firstly, an improved adaptive median filtering algorithm is used to denoise the image. Then replace Sobel with Scharr to enhance the gap between pixel values, add 45° and 135° directional templates to prevent edge information loss as well. Besides, introduce a scale factor to improve the interpolation method for non‐maximum suppression and reduce false edges. Finally, use Ostu operator to achieve adaptive extraction of high and low thresholds to complete adaptive edge detection. The qualitative analysis and quantitative results show that the improved algorithm can not only have a good visual effect, have good robustness and feasibility, but also be faster than other algorithms, which provide a basic guarantee for real‐time online quality detection of the thread head. [Display omitted] Field path planning provides the basis for the autonomous navigation of agricultural vehicles. Existing path planning approaches are constrained to a 2D plane, disregarding the impact of terrain factors on navigation tasks. Furthermore, these methods generate non-global paths, as evidenced by their inability to accommodate the headland turning area while performing path planning based on the actual crop growth in the farmland. Low-altitude remote sensing technology, characterized by its high spatial resolution, timely data acquisition, and strong terrain perception, holds great potential for application in autonomous navigation. This study aims to integrate low-altitude remote sensing technology with path-planning tasks for agricultural vehicles by constructing oblique photography models of fields. The objective is to achieve global 3D path planning leveraging advanced methodologies rooted in deep learning and image processing. Four main steps were included in the proposed method. Low-altitude remote sensing models of field blocks were constructed first. Secondly, the models were converted to image patches for dataset establishment. Thirdly, primary crop row identification was conducted by semantic segmentation. Finally, global 3D paths covering the farmland and headland areas were generated. Tea fields in hilly areas were used to test the algorithm. Experiments revealed that the proposed method could be adapted to different field shapes, row numbers, row spacing, and vehicle turning radii. The proposed method uses deep learning and image processing as the primary technical tools but goes beyond traditional crop row detection to form a global path-planning strategy. In addition, the elevation information enabled by the 3D detection manner allows agricultural vehicles to gain a comprehensive understanding of both their own position and that of their destination. In recent years, there has been an exponential increase in the generation and accessibility of electronic healthcare data, often referred to as "real-world data". The landscape of data sources has significantly expanded to encompass traditional databases and newer sources such as the socialmedia, wearables, and mobile devices. Advances in information technology, along with the growth in computational power and the evolution of analytical methods relying on bioinformatic tools and/or artificial intelligence techniques, have enhanced the potential for utilizing this data to generate real-world evidence and improve clinical practice. Indeed, these innovative analytical approaches enable the screening and analysis of large amounts of data to rapidly generate evidence. As such numerous practical uses of artificial intelligence in medicine have been successfully investigated for image processing, disease diagnosis and prediction, as well as the management of pharmacological treatments, thus highlighting the need to educate health professionals on these emerging approaches. Image super-resolution (SR) is a classic problem of image processing. This paper proposes a self-learning interpolation method (SLIM) based on a single image by combining grid feature mapping with binary decision tree, which is not only transparent as the interpolation-based methods, but also achieves comparable performance as the learning-based methods. Firstly, it downsamples the given image I LR to obtain its low–low-resolution image I LLR , which is used to obtain sample data for the self-learning interpolation algorithm for enlarging I LLR to get I LR . Secondly, it provides a structural feature classification method to divide all of the samples into several groups, such that each class of I LLR is mapped to a matrix of coefficients for calculating the values of the pixels of I LR . The image I LR is approximated by executing the decision tree to refine the corresponding mapping matrix. Finally, the resulting high-resolution image I HR is obtained from the given image I LR by using the mapping matrixes. Experimental results show that SLIM achieves more smooth edges and better details on subjective vision than prevailing SR methods, and it is a transparent one but achieves comparable performances on PSNR and SSIM with the learning-based methods, while it outperforms the interpolation-based methods. Modic changes are pathologies that are common in the population and cause low back pain. The aim of the study is to analyze the modic changes detected in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using deep learning modalities. The sagittal T1, sagittal and axial T2-weighted lumbar MRI images of 307 patients, of which 125 were female and 182 were male, aged 19–86 years, who underwent MRI examination between 2016–2021 were analyzed. Modic changes (MC) were categorized and marked according to signal changes. Our study consists of 2 independent stages: classification and segmentation. The categorized data were first classified using convolutional neural network (CNN) architectures such as DenseNet-121, DenseNet-169, and VGG-19. In the next stage, masks were removed by segmentation using U-Net, which is the CNN architecture, with image processing programs on the marked images. During the classification stage, the success rates for modic type 1, type 2, and type 3 changes were 98%, 96%, 100% in DenseNet-121, 100%, 94%, 100% in DenseNet-169, and 98%, 92%, 97% in VGG-19, respectively. At the segmentation phase, the success rate was 71% with the U-Net architecture. Evaluation of MRI findings of MC in the etiology of lower back pain with deep learning architectures can significantly reduce the workload of the radiologist by providing ease of diagnosis. Purpose: Computer‐aided diagnosis (CAD) systems on breast ultrasound (BUS) aim to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of breast screening, helping specialists to detect and classify breast lesions. CAD system development requires a set of annotated images, including lesion segmentation, biopsy results to specify benign and malignant cases, and BI‐RADS categories to indicate the likelihood of malignancy. Besides, standardized partitions of training, validation, and test sets promote reproducibility and fair comparisons between different approaches. Thus, we present a publicly available BUS dataset whose novelty is the substantial increment of cases with the above‐mentioned annotations and the inclusion of standardized partitions to objectively assess and compare CAD systems. Acquisition and Validation Methods: The BUS dataset comprises 1875 anonymized images from 1064 female patients acquired via four ultrasound scanners during systematic studies at the National Institute of Cancer (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). The dataset includes biopsy‐proven tumors divided into 722 benign and 342 malignant cases. Besides, a senior ultrasonographer performed a BI‐RADS assessment in categories 2 to 5. Additionally, the ultrasonographer manually outlined the breast lesions to obtain ground truth segmentations. Furthermore, 5‐ and 10‐fold cross‐validation partitions are provided to standardize the training and test sets to evaluate and reproduce CAD systems. Finally, to validate the utility of the BUS dataset, an evaluation framework is implemented to assess the performance of deep neural networks for segmenting and classifying breast lesions. Data Format and Usage Notes: The BUS dataset is publicly available for academic and research purposes through an open‐access repository under the name BUS‐BRA: A Breast Ultrasound Dataset for Assessing CAD Systems. BUS images and reference segmentations are saved in Portable Network Graphic (PNG) format files, and the dataset information is stored in separate Comma‐Separated Value (CSV) files. Non-traumatic thoracic aorta emergencies are acute conditions associated with substantial morbidity and mortality. In the emergency setting, timely detection of aortic injury through radiological imaging is crucial for prompt treatment planning and favorable patient outcomes. 3D cinematic rendering (CR), a novel rendering algorithm for computed tomography (CT) image processing, allows for life-like visualization of spatial details and contours of highly complex anatomic structures such as the thoracic aorta and its vessels, generating a photorealistic view that not just adds to diagnostic confidence, but is especially useful for non-radiologists, including surgeons and emergency medicine physicians. In this pictorial review, we demonstrate the utility of CR in the setting of non-traumatic thoracic aorta emergencies through 10 cases that were processed at a standalone 3D CR station at the time of presentation, including its role in diagnosis and management. Cell morphology is an important regulator of cell function. Many abnormalities in cellular behavior can be discerned from changes in the shape of the cell and its organelles, typically the nucleus. Two major challenges for developing such phenotypic assays are reconstructing 3D surfaces of individual cells and nuclei from confocal images and developing characterizations of these surfaces for comparisons. We demonstrate two algorithms – 3D active contours and 3D condensed-attention UNet – to segment cells and nuclei from confocal images. The cell and nuclear surfaces are then converted into vectors using a reversible, spherical transform – i.e., shapes can be recovered from the vectors. Typical methods for characterizing shapes using size, shape, and image parameters such as area, volume, shape factor, solidity, and pixel intensities are not amenable to such reverse transformation. Our vector representation's principal component analysis shows that the significant modes of variability among cell and nucleus shapes are scaling and flattening. We benchmark these modes using a known mechanical model for nucleus morphology. Subsequent modes alter the eccentricity of the nucleus and translate and rotate it with respect to the cell. Our vector-space representation of cell and nucleus shape helps physically interpret the variability sources. The research on stochastic resonance (SR) which is used to extract weak signals from noisy backgrounds is of great theoretical significance and promising application. To address the shortcomings of the classical tristable SR model, this article proposes a novel compound multistable stochastic resonance (NCMSR) model by combining the Woods–Saxon (WS) and tristable models. The influence of the parameters of the NCMSR systems on the output response performance is studied under different α stable noises. Meanwhile, the adaptive synchronization optimization algorithm based on the proposed model is employed to achieve periodic and non-periodic signal identifications in α stable noise environments. The results show that the proposed system model outperforms the tristable system in terms of detection performance. Auto-Encoder based Deep Subspace Clustering (DSC) has been widely applied in computer vision, motion segmentation and image processing. However, existing DSC methods suffer from two limitations: (1) they ignore the rich useful relational information and the connectivity within each subspace due to the reconstruction loss; (2) they design convolutional networks individually according to specific datasets. To address the above problems and improve the performance of DSC, we propose a novel algorithm called Self-Supervised deep Subspace Clustering with Entropy-norm(S 3 CE) in this paper. Firstly, S 3 CE introduces self-supervised contrastive learning to pre-train the encoder instead of requiring a decoder. Besides, the trained encoder is used as a feature extractor to segment subspace by combining self-expression layer and entropy-norm constraint. This not only preserves the local structure of data, but also improves the connectivity between data points. Accurate identification of healthy plug seedlings is vital to intelligent greenhouse transplanting. Based on machine vision, this study presents a method to improve the accuracy and efficiency of plug seedlings' health identification, which is achieved by using image pre-processing, multilayer perceptron neural network image segmentation and connectivity domain centre coordinate calculation. To reduce the effect of invalid data on plug seedling image processing, the projection method is used to extract the image of the target region in the seedling tray where the plug seedling is situated. In addition, a multilayer perceptron neural network algorithm is utilised to segment the image of the target region into the leaves of the plug seedling and the background substrate. To solve the problem of overlapping seedling leaves, the centre coordinates of the connectivity domain are precisely calculated and matched with the corresponding holes. The health of the plug seedlings is then assessed using an area threshold. Finally, a greenhouse transplanting robot was developed and experiments were conducted to affirm the effectiveness of this approach. The experiments show that under different light intensities, the average accuracy of health identification for plug seedlings is over 96.90%. Moreover, the average transplanting success rate is 95.86% and the average number of transplanted plug seedlings per hour is 2117.65, indicating that the proposed method can accurately and quickly identify healthy plug seedlings and perform transplanting tasks, which provides guidance for intelligent transplanting in greenhouses. • MLP classifier is used to improve the accuracy of image segmentation. • Calculating the central coordinates of connected domains to enhance health discrimination. • The effectiveness of the method was verified by transplanting seedlings in greenhouses. Reconstruction of 2-dimensional transcerebellar images into 3-dimensional transcerebellar has an important role in diagnosis and treatment planning in neurology. In this study, we propose the 3D-FHNet method to produce an accurate three-dimensional representation of transcerebellar images. The process begins with the selection of images and the application of image augmentation and enhancement techniques to improve the quality of the initial image. Furthermore, segmentation was carried out using two different architectures, namely U-Net and LinkNet, to compare the performance of the two. After training, both architectures can process object segmentation properly. The best performance was produced by U-Net with a pixel accuracy of 99.83%, Mean IU of 89.71%, FPR of 0.91%, Precision of 85.78%, Recall of 85.31%, and F1 Score of 85.31%. With this accuracy, cross-validation was carried out using a 10-Fold. The experimental results show that U-Net gives better results in terms of transcerebellar image segmentation. After the segmentation process, an initial reconstruction is carried out using the PiFUHD architecture which produces a three-dimensional object. The results of this reconstruction are then taken from four sides to be introduced to the 3D-FHNet architecture, because the main concept of 3DFHNet is to use multiview input. To measure the accuracy of the model, the IoU (Intersection over Union) metric is used for the ground truth obtained from the PiFUHD method. This metric is used to compare the similarities between the reconstruction results and the ground truth, so that information can be obtained about the extent to which the model has succeeded in reconstructing three-dimensional objects accurately. Model performance can be calculated by using the input as ground truth or the IoU (Intersection over Union) method with an average of 76.76%. By using the 3D-FHNet method, three-dimensional image reconstruction of the ultrasound image of the fetal head can be performed accurately. The experimental results show that the 3D-FHNet method produces a more accurate three-dimensional representation of the transcerebellar image compared to the previous method. These results demonstrate great potential in improving diagnosis and treatment planning in neurology, as well as making important contributions to the development of medical image processing technologies. Annual daylighting and point-in-time glare calculations depend on manipulating large matrices representing annual light levels and image pixels, respectively. Advances in computation speed have allowed modern green building standards like LEED, WELL, and EN 17037 to require annual daylighting calculations at a fine resolution across a building's floorplate. As parallel ray tracing speeds become faster and cameras increase in resolution, matrix manipulation itself has emerged as a bottleneck to delivering fast simulation results. This paper describes a how vectorized computation methods can be applied to annual daylighting simulation and high dynamic range (HDR) image processing. Vectorization allows a computer to perform simple operations on large amounts of data simultaneously. We use the NumPy library in Python to vectorize multiple steps in the calculation of spatial daylight autonomy and annual renderings for glare as example climate-based daylighting metrics, achieving a speedup of two orders of magnitude. Deep Neural Networks (DNN) have made significant advances in various fields including speech recognition and image processing. Typically, modern DNNs are both compute and memory intensive, therefore their deployment in low-end devices is a challenging task. A well-known technique to address this problem is Low-Rank Factorization (LRF), where a weight tensor is approximated by one or more lower-rank tensors, reducing both the memory size and the number of executed tensor operations. However, the employment of LRF is a multi-parametric optimization process involving a huge design space where different design points represent different solutions trading-off the number of FLOPs, the memory size, and the prediction accuracy of the DNN models. As a result, extracting an efficient solution is a complex and time-consuming process. In this work, a new methodology is presented that formulates the LRF problem as a (FLOPs vs. memory vs. prediction accuracy) Design Space Exploration (DSE) problem. Then, the DSE space is drastically pruned by removing inefficient solutions. Our experimental results prove that the design space can be efficiently pruned, therefore extract only a limited set of solutions with improved accuracy, memory, and FLOPs compared to the original (non-factorized) model. The FFF process involves depositing melted material layer-by-layer to build up 3D physical parts. The quality of the final product depends on several factors, including the component density and tensile strength, which are typically determined through destructive testing methods. X-ray microtomography (XCT) can be used to investigate the pore sizes and distribution. These approaches are time-consuming, costly, and wasteful, making it unsuitable for high-volume manufacturing. In this paper, a new method for non-destructive determination of component density and estimation of the tensile strength in FFF processes is proposed. This method involves the use of gradual error detection by sensors and convolutional neural networks. To validate this approach, a series of experiments has been conducted. Component density and tensile strength of the printed specimens with varying extrusion factor were measured using traditional destructive testing methods and XCT. The cumulative error detection method was used to predict the same properties without destroying the specimens. The predicted values were then compared with the measured values, and it was observed that the method accurately predicted the component density and tensile strength of the tested parts. This approach has several advantages over traditional destructive testing methods. The method is faster, cheaper, and more environmentally friendly since it does not require the destruction of the product. Moreover, it facilitates the testing of each individual part instead of assuming the same properties for components from one series. Additionally, it can provide real-time feedback on the quality of the product during the manufacturing process, allowing for adjustments to be made as needed. The advancement of this approach points toward a future trend in non-destructive testing methodologies, potentially revolutionizing quality assurance processes not only for consumer goods but various industries such as electronics or automotive industry. Moreover, its broader applications extend beyond FFF to encompass other additive manufacturing techniques such as selective laser sintering (SLS), or electron beam melting (EBM). Considering the trend of scaling down conventional technologies toward next-generation devices and the importance of new practical and efficient procedures in increasing the efficiency of digital computing circuits, this paper presents three full adder circuits. Suggested circuits, named Design-1 to Design-3, are proposed based on FinFET technology with channel length of 11 nm. In order to optimize energy consumption and area occupation, they have been implemented based on approximate computing with 4, 10, and 12 transistors, respectively. The main characteristics of the presented circuits lie in their utilization of the gate diffusion input technique, which has resulted in the generation of only three errors in their output. Diverse objectives for error generation have been incorporated into these circuits, positioning them as highly accurate competitors when compared to the most state-of-the-art designs. Also, due to the use of low number of transistors, which has led to low internal nodes, these circuits are in a favorable position in terms of power consumption and speed. To evaluate these circuits, extensive simulations are conducted considering various implementations, including single-bit configurations and integration within 4-bit ripple carry adders with 2 and 4 approximate bits. Based on the figure of merits used consist of diverse design parameters, Design-1 with the least number of transistors has a difference of about 85% improvement compared to the nearest competitor, while design-2 and design-3 circuits are also placed in desirable rankings. This research presents a new workflow to assess unreinforced masonry (URM) walls based on vision-based data. The morphological features (i.e. brick pattern) of URM walls are obtained through high-resolution orthogonal images and then imported into a three-dimensional discrete element code (3DEC) to perform structural analysis via a semi-automatic procedure. URM walls are represented using rigid blocks that can mechanically interact along their boundaries. The mechanical interaction is simulated based on the point-contact hypothesis considering spring frictional elements. Once the numerical approach is validated using the results available in the literature, the proposed data-driven modelling strategy is applied to different URM wall cross-sections, with or without openings. The results show that the adopted semi-automatic workflow can be a fast and robust solution to simulate the structural behaviour of existing URM buildings by considering their construction techniques efficiently. 1. The following study addressed the problem of small duck eggs as challenging to detect and identify for pick up in complex free-range duck farm environments. It introduces improvements to the YOLOv4 convolutional neural network target detection algorithm, based on the working conditions of egg-picking robots. 2. Specifically, one scale of anchor boxes was removed from the prediction network, and a duck egg labelling dataset was established to make the improved algorithm YOLOv4-ours better match the working state of egg-picking robots and enhance detection performance. 3. Through multiple comparative experiments, the YOLOv4-ours object detection algorithm exhibited superior overall performance, achieving a precision of 98.85%, recall of 96.67%, and an average precision of 98.60% and F1 score increased to 97%. Compared to the original YOLOv4 model, these improvements represented increases of 1.89%, 3.41%, 1.32%, and 1.04%, respectively. Furthermore, detection time was reduced from 0.26 seconds per image to 0.20 seconds. 4. The evolving membrane technology integrated with machine learning (ML) algorithms can significantly advance the novel membrane material design and fabrication. Although several studies have reported ML-based assistance in membrane development, none of them have offered a complete analysis of existing ML-assisted membrane fabrication methods from material design perspective. A two-way information gateway is therefore necessary to achieve the desired objective, whereby experienced researchers and data scientists from both sides need to provide valuable insights into novel membrane development process. In this work, we offer a midway platform by providing an overall view and scopes of ML uses in membrane science. This is accomplished by analyzing reported ML-assisted membrane fabrications via lensing through the overall ML development. This work culminates in identifying four crucial factors affecting ML-assisted membrane development: data mining, material functional description, selection of ML models and model interpretation. A future direction is proposed by making specific ML models and descriptors suggestions, in addition to molecular similarity analysis technique and ML-based image processing. Algae are often cultivated in closed system of photobioreactors. In the cultivation, algae cells grow to adhere on the wall surface of a reactor, which results in inhibiting photosynthesis of culture solution. This short paper visualizes the microalgae adhesion on the oil coated wall of a cultivation reactor. A remarkable finding is the fact that the coating of silicone oil could protect the wall surface from the microalgae adhesion. In particular, the coating of silicone oil with the kinematic viscosity larger than 20 [cSt] can be found to reduce the adhesion area on the reactor wall to less than half that on an uncoated reactor.
