Two of the main challenges in origami antenna designs are creating a reliable hinge and achieving precise actuation for optimal electromagnetic (EM) performance. Herein, a waterbomb origami ring antenna is introduced, integrating the waterbomb origami principle, 3D‐printed liquid metal (LM) hinges, and robotic shape morphing. The approach, combining 3D printing, robotic actuation, and innovative antenna design, enables various origami folding patterns, enhancing both portability and EM performance. This antenna's functionality has been successfully demonstrated, displaying its communication capabilities with another antenna and its ability to navigate narrow spaces on a remote‐controlled wheel robot. The 3D‐printed LM hinge exhibits low DC resistance (200 ± 1.6 mΩ) at both flat and folded state, and, with robotic control, the antenna achieves less than 1° folding angle accuracy and a 66% folding area ratio. The antenna operates in two modes at 2.08 and 2.4 GHz, ideal for fixed mobile use and radiolocation. Through extensive simulations and experiments, the antenna is evaluated in both flat and folded states, focusing on resonant frequency, gain patterns, and hinge connectivity. The findings confirm that the waterbomb origami ring antenna consistently maintains EM performance during folding and unfolding, with stable resonant frequencies and gain patterns, proving the antenna's reliability and adaptability for use in portable and mobile devices. The study of blowfly (Diptera: Calliphoridae) biodiversity and distribution is crucial for forensic investigations. Abiotic and biotic factors, such as season and habitat type, have a significant impact on blowfly populations. However, only a few forensic entomology studies have been conducted in South Korea, particularly in the Gyeongsangnam-do region. To address this, an extensive year-long survey was conducted to analyze the compositions, habitat preferences, distribution, and seasonal abundance of forensically relevant blowflies in urban and forested habitats of Gyeongsangnam-do, with sampling conducted twice a month using mouse carcass-baited traps set for 48 h each time. A total of 3470 adult blowflies were recorded, encompassing five genera and 13 species, with a noted absence of specimens during the winter months. The predominant species was Lucilia porphyrina, accounting for 37.2% of the total sample, followed by Chrysomya pinguis (27.6%), Lucilia sericata (7.6%), and Lucilia illustris (7.1%). The species composition was consistent across all surveyed regions; however, seasonal variation in species diversity was evident, with a peak in spring and a decline in summer. Notably, certain species exhibited clear preferences for either urban (Calliphora calliphoroides and L. sericata) or forested habitats (L. porphyrina and Ch. pinguis). This pioneering study elucidates the diverse blowfly communities in Gyeongsangnam-do, highlighting significant seasonal and habitat-dependent variations. These findings enrich our understanding of blowfly ecology in this region, offering valuable insights for forensic applications and underscoring the necessity for ongoing entomological surveillance and research. Purpose: This study investigated the incidence of secondary malignancy in multiple myeloma (MM) patients compared with that in the general population using a population-based database covering all residents in Korea. Materials and Methods: Based on the national health insurance system in Korea, all people primarily diagnosed with MM between January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2018 were identified. A total of 9,985 MM patients aged = 20 years in Korea were included. Results: Among them, 237 (2.4%) developed secondary malignancies by 2018. The standardized incidence rates (SIRs) of all secondary malignancies in MM patients were 0.87 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.76 to 0.98), with a higher incidence of hematologic malignancies than in the general population with an SIR of 3.80 (95% CI, 2.61 to 5.00). The incidence rates of both lymphoid malignancy (SIR, 3.56; 95% CI, 2.31 to 4.82) and myeloid malignancy (SIR, 3.78; 95% CI, 1.16 to 6.39) were higher in MM patients than in the general population. In contrast, a lower incidence of solid cancer was observed in MM patients than in the general population (SIR, 0.76, 95% CI, 0.65 to 0.86). There was no significant difference in survival in MM patients without secondary malignancies, with hematologic malignancy, and with solid cancer (p=0.413). Conclusion MM patients had a greater risk of secondary malignancies, especially hematologic malignancies, than the general population. Future studies with a focus on analyzing patients' history, treatment details, and genetic information in various stages of MM patients are needed to better understand the mechanism behind this increased risk. Misidentification errors in tumor marker tests can lead to serious diagnostic and treatment errors. This study aims to develop a method for detecting these errors using a machine learning (ML)-based delta check approach, overcoming limitations of conventional methods. We analyzed five tumor marker test results: alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), cancer antigen 19-9 (CA19-9), cancer antigen 125 (CA125), carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), and prostate-specific antigen (PSA). A total of 246,261 records were used in the analysis. Of these, 179,929 records were used for model training and 66,332 records for performance evaluation. We developed a misidentification error detection model based on the random forest (RF) and deep neural network (DNN) methods. We performed an in silico simulation with 1 % random sample shuffling. The performance of the developed models was evaluated and compared to conventional delta check methods such as delta percent change (DPC), absolute DPC (absDPC), and reference change values (RCV). The DNN model outperformed the RF, DPC, absDPC, and RCV methods in detecting sample misidentification errors. It achieved balanced accuracies of 0.828, 0.842, 0.792, 0.818, and 0.833 for AFP, CA19-9, CA125, CEA, and PSA, respectively. Although the RF method performed better than DPC and absDPC, it showed similar or lower performance compared to RCV. Our research results demonstrate that an ML-based delta check method can more effectively detect sample misidentification errors compared to conventional delta check methods. Background/Aims Membranous nephropathy (MN) is the most common primary glomerular disease diagnosed in older patients. Few reports describe the clinical outcomes in older patients with idiopathic MN. Methods The outcomes of 135 patients with histologically proven MN were analyzed. ‘Older’ was defined as 60 years of age or older at the time of the renal biopsy. The rates of complete remission (CR), progression to end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and infection were compared between older and younger patients. Results The cumulative event rate for achieving CR was inferior (p = 0.012) and that for requiring renal replacement was higher (p = 0.015) in older patients, and they had a greater risk of infection (p = 0.005). Older age was a significant predictor of a lower rate of CR (adjusted odds ratio [OR], 0.51; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.26 to 0.98), and was a robust predictor of infection (adjusted OR, 5.27; 95% CI, 1.31 to 21.20). Conservative treatment was associated with a lower remission rate (p = 0.036) and corticosteroid treatment was less effective in achieving CR (p = 0.014), in preventing progression to ESRD (p = 0.013) and in reducing infection (p = 0.033) in older patients. Cyclosporine treatment had similar clinical outcomes with regard to CR, ESRD progression, and infection in older patients. Conclusions Older age was independently associated with inferior rates of CR and greater risk of infection. Treatment modalities affected the outcomes of older patients differently in that cyclosporine treatment is predicted to be more useful than corticosteroids.

Background: High amounts of nonstarch polysaccharides in the diet may increase the amounts of fermentative materials in the hindgut, leading to an increase in fermentative heat production. Dietary β-mannanase is reported to decrease antinutritional effects of β-mannans, such as the potential increase of body heat; however, its efficacy on broiler chickens raised under hot climatic conditions has not been investigated. Objective: To investigate the effects of dietary β-mannanase on growth performance, cloacal temperature, relative lymphoid organ weight, and blood characteristics of broiler chickens raised under hot climatic conditions. Methods: A total of 1,701 1-day-old Ross 308 broiler chickens were randomly allotted to one of three dietary treatments with nine replicates. A basal diet was prepared and added with β-mannanase at 0.05 or 0.10% inclusion levels. The experiment was conducted for 30 days. Average room temperature was 28.8 ± 1.74 ̊C and average relative humidity (RH) was 76.1 ± 11.49% during the experiment. Abstract Background Cilastatin (CL) is an inhibitor of dehydropeptidase-I, which is safely used in clinical practice to prevent nephrotoxicity of antibiotics. Tacrolimus (TAC) is the most important immunosuppressant in renal transplantation, but it causes considerable nephrotoxicity. We evaluated the protective effects of CL against chronic TAC-induced nephropathy. Methods Chronic nephropathy was induced by administering TAC (1.5 mg/kg/ day, subcutaneous injection) to rats on a low-salt diet for 4 weeks. CL (75 or 150 mg/kg/day, intraperitoneal injection) was concomitantly treated with TAC. Human proximal tubular cells were exposed to TAC (50 μg/mL) with or without CL (250 μg/mL). We investigated the effects of CL on TAC-induced injury in terms of renal function, tubulointerstitial fibrosis, and inflammation. The effects of CL on oxidative stress and apoptosis were evaluated in both in vivo and in vitro models of TAC nephrotoxicity. Results CL treatment improved TAC-induced renal dysfunction and decreased renal interstitial fibrosis (reduced expression of e-cadherin and TGFβ-1) and interstitial inflammation (decreased infiltration of ED-1-positive and osteopontin-positive cells). Compared to TAC treatment alone, CL co-treatment reduced oxidative stress (serum 8-OHdG level and immunoreactivity of 8-OHdG and 4-HHE in renal tissue) and increased renal expression of anti-oxidant enzyme, manganese superoxide dismutase. CL treatment decreased apoptotic cell death (decreased TUNEL-positive cells and reduced expression of active caspase-3) in TAC-treated kidney. In vitro CL treatment prevented tubular cell death from TAC treatment and decreased number of annexin V-positive cells were observed in cilastatin-cotreated cells. Conclusion CL has protective effects against chronic TAC-induced nephrotoxicity owing to its anti-oxidative and anti-apoptotic properties.
