Abstract

Background: Haemodialysis is a process to remove the waste products and excess fluids that build up in the human body when kidneys stop working. Haemodialysis concentrate consists of two parts, acid concentrate (Part A) that contains mineral ions (Na, K, Mg and Ca) and buffering agent acetic acid /citric acid whereas basic concentrate (Part B) comprises sodium bicarbonate alone or in combination with sodium chloride. Aim: Present research aimed to develop and validate a rapid method for the determination of cations and anions in haemodialysis concentrates in solution and powder form by choosing one technique among various suggested in ISO 13958:2014. Methods: The analysis was done by flame emission (flame photometer), atomic absorption spectrometer (AAS), polarimetric and titrimetric techniques. ICH guidelines were followed for method validation by addressing the linearity, accuracy, precision and detection limits (LOD and LOQ). Results and Discussion: The calibration curves were linear for Mg, Ca, K and Na with coefficient of determination (R2) ≥ 0.9978 and regression data indicating the excellent linearity for the selected concentration range for each content. The recovery results were obtained between the ranges 96.9-102.5 % which were good enough to justify the suitability of the proposed method for its intended applications. Statistical analysis indicated that there was no significant difference was observed between the proposed and compendial method at 95 % confidence of interval. Conclusion: The advantage of the proposed method over the compendial method by virtue of its economy and fast with reliable results because more reagents and chemicals are consumed in the compendial method.

216. Assessment of Different Indigenous Plant Extracts Against Pea Aphids (Acyrthosiphon Pisum) Under Field Condition.

Abstract

Aphid is one of the most destructive pests of pea and. it reduces the quantity and quality of the crop. The aimed of study to determine the efficacy of various plant extracts viz., (Green Chili (Capsicum spp.), Garlic Fresh Cloves (A. sativum), Chinaberry Fresh leaves (M. azedarach), Eucalpytus leaves against pea aphid Acyrthosiphon pisum. The research experiment was design randomize complete block (RCBD) with three replications and two sprays were applied at 14 days interval. After 7 and 14 days of 1st and 2nd application the minimum means density of aphids were recorded in plot treated with Eucalpytus leaves (8.33, 4.66) and (5, 3) respectively and followed by Garlic fresh cloves (13, 11). After 2nd spray followed by green chili (12.66) and chinaberry (11). After 7 and 14 days maximum mean density of aphids after 1st and 2nd spray application (14, 16) and (19, 17) were observed in control plot. The highest yield Were recorded in plot treated with Eucalpytus leaves (1728.3kg/ha) followed by Garlic fresh cloves (1555.3kg/ha). While lowest yield (904.7kg/ha) was recorded in control plot. It was concluded from the study that all the botanical extracts reduce the population of aphids but Eucalpytus leaves showed best results in aphid papulation reduction and yield. Abstract

Hydrogen is clean energy source that can replace fossil fuels, considering the great need for clean and environmentally friendly energy. Researchers are busy developing new materials for efficient hydrogen storage. Herein, we present the detailed analysis of hydrogen adsorption on pristine B12N12 as well as alkali metals (Li, Na and K) centered B12N12. B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) basis set of DFT has been used in this investigation. These parameters are carried out to analyze the structure, stability, and reactivity of centered nano-cage towards hydrogen. Firstly, we optimized alkali metals (Li, N,a and K) centered nanocage. And then these nano-clusters are analyzed for hydrogen adsorption. Adsorption energies, bond lengths, HOMO–LUMO gap, molecular electrostatic potential, charge density, and PDOS analysis are performed by using the B3LYP/6-31(d,p) basis set of DFT. All centered nano-cages offer better adsorption of hydrogen as compared to pure B12N12. Dipole moment analysis indicates that a high charge density exists when H2 is adsorbed on metals centered in B12N12. MEP shows that charge separation occurred when hydrogen is adsorbed on a metals-centered nano-cage. HOMO–LUMO energy gap investigation shows that LUMO shows stabilization while HOMO is destabilized when metal or hydrogen are in contact with BN nano-cage. Alkali metals encapsulation can improve the chemical and physical properties of B12N12. A novel type of system for developing hydrogen storage materials was finally proposed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The energy dependence on the intrinsic efficiency, absolute efficiency, full energy peak absolute efficiency and peak-to-total ratio have been studied for various wide band gap semiconductor detectors using the Geant4 based Monte Carlo simulations. The detector thickness of 1-4 mm and the area in 16-100 mm2 range were considered in this work. In excellent agreement with earlier work (Rybka et al., [20]), the Geant4 simulated values of detector efficiencies have been found to decrease with incident g-ray energy. Both for the detector thickness and the detector area, the increasing trends have been observed for total efficiency as well as for full-energy peak efficiency in 0.1 MeV-50 MeV range. For Cd1-xZnxTe, the detector response remained insensitive to changes in relative proportions of Zn. For various wide band gap detectors studied in this work, the detection efficiency of TlBr was found highest over the entire range of energy, followed by the HgI2, CdTe, and then by CZT.

Abstract

The study falls in the area of Internet Linguistics and explores e-rozgar opportunities in Web content writing. Web content writing jobs can be done at home on the Internet. Against a background of the ever-rising rate of unemployment in the country, the paper tries to highlight new online job opportunities offered in the field of Web content writing. The study emphasizes the need to equip our educated youths with Web content writing skills so that they can earn living at home. In order to benefit from these online opportunities, we need to know what web content writing is and how it is different from other forms of writing. The study explains not only these aspects but also other important aspects of Web content writing such as Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and the influence of SEO on the writing preferences of Web content writers. As the study moves on, it emphasizes the important role linguistics and English teachers can play in imparting Web content writing skills to the unemployed graduates in the country. The teachers and course designers need to keep themselves abreast of the changes in the job market. It concludes by highlighting the importance of tailoring MA English / linguistics and M. Phil English / linguistics course contents to the existing freelancing job market trends.

Abstract

The current exploratory study was designed to investigate differences in the male and female ESL teachers’ discourses in ELT classrooms. Insights from the discipline of discourse, Sinclair & Coulthard’s (1975) model, Difference theory and Social Constructionist theory formed the theoretical framework of the study. Data of the study was collected by using convenient sampling technique. The sample of the study was 100 students of Master’s Program at the department of English of a public university in Pakistan. The results of the study show that majority of the learners (around 60%) are of the view that the classroom discourses of the female ESL teachers are different from the male ESL teachers discourses in their nonverbal classroom behaviours, use of hedges, softer expressions and modal verbs. The greater and clearer indicators of differences of the classroom discourses of the teachers appeared in their paralanguage, nonverbal behaviour and prosodic features.

235. Blended Learning in ESL: Perceptions about paradigm shift in English Language Institutions of Punjab, Pakistan

Abstract

Tremendous technological developments have revolutionized educational practices and experiences of English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers and learners at an unprecedented rate. One such educational development is termed as Blended Learning (BL). BL is the method of teaching and learning in which traditional place-based mode of instruction is combined with online teaching and learning. The online mode or environment of BL is not just asynchronous web-enhanced method of delivery of contents rather it also involves synchronous interactions between the teachers and learners via audio and/or video conferencing and cloud-based online meeting apps. Instruction, learning materials and assessment is accessible for learners in traditional face-to-face as well as in online environments. Present study aims to explore ESL learners’ perceptions of BL. Questionnaires were used to gather data to examine 282 ESL learners’ attitudes toward BL. These ESL learners were enrolled in ESL courses in different public and private institutes of Punjab, Pakistan. The descriptive analysis of the data revealed that most of the students have positive attitude towards BL and they found it helpful in English language learning. Based on the results descriptively drawn from the responses of the subjects of the current study, conclusions are drawn, and recommendations have been offered.

Abstract

Plutella xylostella (Plutellidae: Lepidoptera) is the one of most destructive and critical cosmopolitan insect herbivores of brassica crops. Globally efforts have been undertaken to develop integrated management strategies for its control, based principally on manipulation of its parasitoids including Diadegma insulare. The research study was conducted to investigate the effects of two cabbage varieties on fitness parameters (i.e. percent parasitism, offspring sex ratio and developmental periods) of Diadegma insulare, a larval parasitoid of Plutella xylostella. All experiments were carried out under controlled conditions maintained at 23±2 °C, 60±5% RH and 16L: 8D photoperiod. The findings revealed that developmental period was lower on Asha while higher on Golden acre whenever both second and third instars larvae were released on cabbage varieties. Parasitism efficacy was lower on third instars larvae as compared to the second. Higher parasitism (53.53%) was assessed on Asha while lower parasitism (44.95%) was observed on Golden acre when second instars larvae were exposed. Parasitism was higher (61.17%) on Asha while lower (50.1%) on golden acre when third instars larvae were exposed. Offspring sex ratio differed on stages of parasitized larvae. Higher male offspring emerged when second instars larvae were parasitized while more female offspring were emerged when third instars larvae were parasitized by D. insulare reared on both varieties. It was concluded that Asha was recognized as most suitable variety, as developmental period of D. insulare was shorter as well as parasitizing efficacy was also recorded higher on Asha.
