Based on density functional theory and classical transition state theory, the reaction mechanism of NO reduction by H2 catalyzed by coke in hydrogen rich blast furnace was investigated. The results showed that the presence of active sites on the coke surface promoted the NO reduction reaction. Reactive oxygen species remaining on the coke edge inhibited the NO reaction after NO reduction. Both coke and H2 can release edge sites by reducing reactive oxygen species, but reactive oxygen species reduction by H2 requires a high barrier value of 634,3 kJ/mol, which is higher than that by coke. The article presents a case study of a 22-year-old Chinese woman who has been diagnosed with acrokeratoelastoidosis (AKE) on her hands and feet. It mentions that AKE's lesions often begin in early childhood or adolescence, but most cases during the second or third decades of life. Summary: What is known and objective: Patients with rheumatic disease are at risk for infections. Evaluating antitumour necrosis factor (anti‐TNF) drug‐associated risk of infections requires justification of baseline risk in the population at high risk of infection. We examined the incidence of active tuberculosis (TB) and its risk factors in patients with rheumatic disease started with anti‐TNF‐α therapy or with existing disease‐modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) therapy. Methods: A retrospective cohort study of anti‐TNF‐α therapy new users (anti‐TNF‐α group) and those starting with a DMARD after the failure of at least one other DMARD or who had added to existing DMARD treatment (DMARD group) for rheumatic disease in the largest medical setting in Taiwan from 1 January 2005 through 31 November 2013 was conducted to determine relative risk of TB between patient groups. Patients in the DMARD group were stratified into “mild” and “severe” disease severity as proxies for low and high background risk of infection. Results and discussion: A total of 3640 patients were enrolled (anti‐TNF: 955; DMARD: 2685). The incidence of TB was 903.9/100 000 patient‐years for anti‐TNF‐α new users and 391.7/100 000 patient‐years for DMARD switchers. In Cox regression model, adjusted HR for TB in the anti‐TNF‐α group was higher than for the entire DMARD group (aHR, 2.41; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.2‐4.85), subgroup with mild disease (2.91; 1.31‐6.47) and subgroup with severe disease (1.65; 0.68‐4.03). Significant independent risk factors for TB were being male, age ≥60 years, history of respiratory disease, glucocorticoids dose >7.5 mg/d and living in a TB‐prevalent region. What is new and conclusion: Anti‐TNF‐α therapy was independently associated with increased risk of TB in patients with mild disease, but it was not significantly correlated in patients with severe disease after adjusting for confounders. Self-field loss measurements at 77 K on a superconducting (Bi, Pb)[sub 2]Sr[sub 2]Ca[sub 2]Cu[sub 3]O[sub 10]/AgAu tape with twisted filaments are presented. Using the first- and third-harmonic components of the electric field, the hysteretic losses are separated from the total loss. At peak transport currents less than half the critical current, the hysteretic losses are considerably reduced. However, sizable nonhysteretic losses are also observed. BaTiO[sub 3] and BaTiO[sub 3]:Ce thin films with good surface morphology and tetragonal perovskite structure were fabricated on quartz substrates by pulsed-laser deposition technique at a deposition temperature of 750 °C. The fundamental optical constants (the band gaps, linear refractive indices and absorption coefficients) of the films were obtained through optical transmittance measurements. The nonlinear optical properties of the films were investigated using Z-scan method. The films display large nonlinear absorption effects. The two-photon absorption coefficients of the BaTiO[sub 3] and BaTiO[sub 3]:Ce films were determined to be 51.7 and 59.3 cm/GW, respectively. All the results show that undoped and cerium-doped BaTiO[sub 3] ferroelectric thin films have potential applications in absorbing-type optical devices. © 2000 American Institute of Physics. Time course of starch production and the key enzyme activities in the grains of four maize inbred lines (two high-starch and two low-starch lines) were studied. Accumulation of grain starch and its components in four maize inbred lines rose continuously after pollination and increased as a sigmoid curve during grain filling. The accumulation rates showed single-peak curves. The accumulation rates of starch and its components reached their peaks on 25–32 days after pollination (DAP), respectively. Activities of adenosine diphosphoglucose pyrophosphorylase (AGPPase) and starch synthase in the grains of four lines followed single-peak curves with the peaks on 24–31 DAP. The highest activity of the starch-branching enzyme (Q-enzyme) in the grains of both high-starch lines appeared on 23 DAP, but that of both low-starch inbred lines showed double-peak curves, the peaks being at 15–20 DAP and 30–35 DAP. There was significant positive correlation between AGPPase, soluble starch synthase (SSS), and starch granule-bound synthase (GBSS) activities. The results indicated the Q-enzyme had different expression patterns in the high-and the low-starch maize inbred lines, and that AGPPase, SSS, and GBSS activities were significantly and positively correlated with amylose, amylopectin, and starch accumulation rates in all lines. Aquagenic syringeal acrokeratoderma (ASA) is a rare acquired disorder that develops predominantly in young women. It is clinically characterized by a burning sensation and whitish discolouration on the hands and rarely on the soles after brief immersion in water, which resolves within a short time after drying. Topical aluminium chloride and salicylic acid are reportedly beneficial in some cases. In total, 20 female and 8 male patients with ASA have been reported previously. We present another male patient, who failed to respond to treatment with antihistamines and topical steroids, but responded well to formalin 3% in alcohol without any side-effects. The article discusses the coexistence of Dirac nodal surfaces and nodal lines in the bulk electronic structures of ZrSiS through the use of angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). Topics discussed include the results showing that nodal lines constitute Fermi surfaces and are the only feature near the Fermi level, and thus proving ZrSiS quasiparticles are entirely contributed by Dirac fermions.

Reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton is essential for cell motility and chemotaxis. Actin-binding proteins ( ABPs) and membrane lipids, especially phosphoinositides PI(4,5) P2 and PI(3,4,5) P3 are involved in the regulation of this reorganization. At least 15 ABPs have been reported to interact with, or regulated by phosphoinositides ( PIPs) whose synthesis is regulated by extracellular signals. Recent studies have uncovered several parallel intracellular signalling pathways that crosstalk in chemotaxing cells. Here, we review the roles of ABPs and phosphoinositides in chemotaxis and cell migration. Using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), it is revealed that the low-energy electronic excitation spectra of highly underdoped superconducting and nonsuperconducting La2-xSrxCuO4 cuprates are gapped along the entire underlying Fermi surface at low temperatures. We show how the gap function evolves to a dx²-y² form with increasing temperature or doping, consistent with the vast majority of ARPES studies of cuprates. Our results provide essential information for uncovering the symmetry of the order parameter(s) in strongly underdoped cuprates, which is a prerequisite for understanding the pairing mechanism and how superconductivity emerges from a Mott insulator. We report a systematic angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy study on Ba(Fe1-xRux)²As² for a wide range of Ru concentrations (0.15 ≤ x ≤ 0.74). We observed a crossover from two dimensions to three dimensions for some of the holelike Fermi surfaces with Ru substitution and a large reduction in the mass renormalization close to optimal doping. These results suggest that isovalent Ru substitution has remarkable effects on the low-energy electron excitations, which are important for the evolution of superconductivity and antiferromagnetism in this system. In heavy-fermion compounds, the dual character of f electrons underlies their rich and often exotic properties like fragile heavy quasiparticles, a variety of magnetic orders and unconventional superconductivity. 5f-electron actinide materials provide a rich setting to elucidate the larger and outstanding issue of the competition between magnetic order and Kondo entanglement and, more generally, the interplay among different channels of interactions in correlated electron systems. Here, by using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, we present the detailed electronic structure of USb2 and observe two different kinds of nearly flat bands in the antiferromagnetic state of USb2. Polarization-dependent measurements show that these electronic states are derived from 5f orbitals with different characters; in addition, further temperature-dependent measurements reveal that one of them is driven by the Kondo correlations between the 5f electrons and conduction electrons, while the other reflects the dominant role of the magnetic order. Our results on the low-energy electronic excitations of USb2 implicate orbital selectivity as an important new ingredient for the competition between Kondo correlations and magnetic order and, by extension, in the rich landscape of quantum phases for strongly correlated f electron systems. While recent advances in band theory and sample growth have expanded the series of extremely large magnetoresistance (XMR) semimetals in transition-metal dipnictides TmPn2 (Tm = Ta, Nb; P n = P, As, Sb), the experimental study on their electronic structure and the origin of XMR is still absent. Here, using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy combined with first-principles calculations and magnetotransport measurements, we performed a comprehensive investigation on MoAs2, which is isostructural to the TmPn2 family and also exhibits quadratic XMR. We resolve a clear band structure well agreeing with the predictions. Intriguingly, the unambiguously observed Fermi surfaces (FSs) are dominated by an open-orbit topology extending along both the [100] and [001] directions in the three-dimensional Brillouin zone. We further reveal the trivial topological nature of MoAs2 by bulk parity analysis. Based on these results, we examine the proposed XMR mechanisms in other semimetals, and conclusively ascribe the origin of quadratic XMR in MoAs2 to the carriers motion on the FSs with dominant open-orbit topology, innovating in the understanding of quadratic XMR in semimetals. Heavy-fermion systems share some of the strange metal phenomenology seen in other unconventional superconductors, providing a unique opportunity to set strange metals in a broader context. Central to understanding heavy-fermion systems is the interplay of localization and itinerancy. These materials acquire high electronic masses and a concomitant Fermi volume increase as the f electrons delocalize at low temperatures. However, despite the wide-spread acceptance of this view, a direct microscopic verification has been lacking. Here we report high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission measurements on CeCoIn5, a prototypical heavy-fermion compound, which spectroscopically resolve the development of band hybridization and the Fermi surface expansion over a wide temperature region. Unexpectedly, the localized-to-itinerant transition occurs at surprisingly high temperatures, yet f electrons are still largely localized even at the lowest temperature. These findings point to an unanticipated role played by crystal-field excitations in the strange metal behavior of CeCoIn5. Our results offer a comprehensive experimental picture of the heavy-fermion formation, setting the stage for understanding the emergent properties, including unconventional superconductivity, in this and related materials. Vanadium dioxide is of broad interest as a spin-1/2 electron system that realizes a metal-insulator transition near room temperature, due to a combination of strongly correlated and itinerant electron physics. Here, resonant inelastic x-ray scattering is used to measure the excitation spectrum of charge and spin degrees of freedom at the vanadium L edge under different polarization and temperature conditions, revealing excitations that differ greatly from those seen in optical measurements. These spectra encode the evolution of short-range energetics across the metal-insulator transition, including the low-temperature appearance of a strong candidate for the singlet-triplet excitation of a vanadium dimer. This Letter reports the first measurement of the oscillation amplitude and frequency of reactor antineutrinos at Daya Bay via neutron capture on hydrogen using 1958 days of data. With over 3.6 million signal candidates, an optimized candidate selection, improved treatment of backgrounds and efficiencies, refined energy calibration, and an energy response model for the capture-on-hydrogen sensitive region, the relative ν[over ¯]_{e} rates and energy spectra variation among the near and far detectors gives sin^{2}2θ_{13}=0.0759_{-0.0049}^{+0.0050} and Δm_{32}^{2}=(2.72_{-0.15}^{+0.14})×10^{-3}  eV^{2} assuming the normal neutrino mass ordering, and Δm_{32}^{2}=(-2.83_{-0.14}^{+0.15})×10^{-3}  eV^{2} for the inverted neutrino mass ordering. This estimate of sin^{2}2θ_{13} is consistent with and essentially independent from the one obtained using the capture-on-gadolinium sample at Daya Bay. The combination of these two results yields sin^{2}2θ_{13}=0.0833±0.0022, which represents an 8% relative improvement in precision regarding the Daya Bay full 3158-day capture-on-gadolinium result.

This Letter presents results of a search for the mixing of a sub-eV sterile neutrino with three active neutrinos based on the full data sample of the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment, collected during 3158 days of detector operation, which contains 5.55×10^{6} reactor ν[over ¯]_{e} candidates identified as inverse beta-decay interactions followed by neutron capture on gadolinium. The analysis benefits from a doubling of the statistics of our previous result and from improvements of several important systematic uncertainties. No significant oscillation due to mixing of a sub-eV sterile neutrino with active neutrinos was found. Exclusion limits are set by both Feldman-Cousins and CLs methods. Light sterile neutrino mixing with sin^{2}2θ_{14}≳0.01 can be excluded at 95% confidence level in the region of 0.01  eV^{2}≲|Δm_{41}^{2}|≲0.1  eV^{2}. This result represents the world-leading constraints in the region of 2×10^{-4}  eV^{2}≲|Δm_{41}^{2}|≲0.2  eV^{2}.

Objective: To provide supports for the cancer prevention and control strategies in China by comparing the disease burden, epidemic trends, 5-year relative survival rate and major determinants of common cancers between China and the United States. Methods: A descriptive secondary analysis was conducted using data extracted from the GLOBOCAN database, the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database, Global Burden of disease 2019 database, and previous studies. The main indicators included the cases of malignant tumors in different sites, the cases of deaths, the age-standardized incidence (world standard incidence) and mortality (world standard mortality), the 5-year relative survival rate, and population attributable fraction (PAF). Results: In 2022, an estimated 4.825 million new cases and 2.574 million deaths of malignant neoplasms in China. The world standard incidence rate (201.6/100 000) in China was lower than that in the United States (367.0/100 000), and the world standard mortality rate (96.5/100 000) was higher than that in the United States (82.3/100 000). Lung cancer ranked first in the disease burden of malignant tumors in China, the new cases and deaths accounted for 22.0% and 28.5% of all malignant tumors, respectively. The top three malignant tumors in China were breast cancer (11.5%), prostate cancer (9.7%) and lung cancer (9.5%), which were also among the top five causes of death. However, the second to fifth leading causes of death from malignant tumors in China were digestive system tumors (liver cancer 12.3%, stomach cancer 10.1%, colorectal cancer 9.3%, and esophageal cancer 7.3%). From 2000 to 2018, the world standard incidence of malignant tumors showed an increasing trend and the world standard mortality of malignant tumors showed a decreasing trend in China, while the world standard incidence and mortality of malignant tumors in the United States showed a significant decreasing trend after 2000. The incidence of breast cancer, colorectal cancer and thyroid cancer increased rapidly in China, while the incidence and mortality of stomach cancer, liver cancer and esophageal cancer decreased, but they still had a heavy disease burden. From 2003 to 2015, the overall 5-year relative survival rate of malignant tumors increased from 30.9% to 40.5% in China. However, with the exception of esophageal cancer, the 5-year relative survival rates of other major malignant tumors were lower than those in the United States. In 2019, the PAF of malignant tumors death attributable to potential modifiable risk factors was 48.3% in China, which was similar to the United States (49.8%). Of these, smoking was the most important attributable risk factor, and the PAF was more than 30% both in China and the United States. In addition, about 18.8% of malignant tumors were caused by preventable chronic infections, such as hepatitis B virus and Helicobacter pylori, while less than 4% of malignant tumors in the United States were caused by infection. Conclusions: China has made great progress in the prevention and treatment of malignant tumors, but it still faces a serious disease burden. The cancer spectrum is changing from developing countries to developed countries. We should pay attention to modifiable factors, take comprehensive measures, and prevent cancer scientifically.

Coexisting orders are key features of strongly correlated materials and underlie many intriguing phenomena from unconventional superconductivity to topological orders. Here, we report the coexistence of two interacting charge-density-wave (CDW) orders in EuTe_{4}, a layered crystal that has drawn considerable attention owing to its anomalous thermal hysteresis and a semiconducting CDW state despite the absence of perfect Fermi surface nesting. By accessing unoccupied conduction bands with time- and angle-resolved photoemission measurements, we find that monolayers and bilayers of Te in the unit cell host different CDWs that are associated with distinct energy gaps. The two gaps display dichotomous evolutions following photoexcitation, where the larger bilayer CDW gap exhibits less renormalization and faster recovery. Surprisingly, the CDW in the Te monolayer displays an additional momentum-dependent gap renormalization that cannot be captured by density-functional theory calculations. This phenomenon is attributed to interlayer interactions between the two CDW orders, which account for the semiconducting nature of the equilibrium state. Our findings not only offer microscopic insights into the correlated ground state of EuTe_{4} but also provide a general nonequilibrium approach to understand coexisting, layer-dependent orders in a complex system.
