Abstract: Gamma-ray observations have established energetic isolated pulsars as outstanding particle accelerators and antimatter factories in the Galaxy. There is, however, no consensus regarding the acceleration mechanisms and the radiative processes at play, nor the locations where these take place. The spectra of all observed gamma-ray pulsars to date show strong cutoffs or a break above energies of a few gigaelectronvolt (GeV). Using the H.E.S.S. array of Cherenkov telescopes, we discovered a novel radiation component emerging beyond this generic GeV cutoff in the Vela pulsar's broadband spectrum. The extension of gamma-ray pulsation energies up to at least 20 teraelectronvolts (TeV) shows that Vela pulsar can accelerate particles to Lorentz factors higher than $4\times10^7$. This is an order of magnitude larger than in the case of the Crab pulsar, the only other pulsar detected in the TeV energy range. Our results challenge the state-of-the-art models for high-energy emission of pulsars while providing a new probe, i.e. the energetic multi-TeV component, for constraining the acceleration and emission processes in their extreme energy limit., Comment: 38 pages, 6 figures. Abstract: We determine the CKM matrix-element magnitude $|V_{cb}|$ using $\overline{B}^0\to D^{*+}\ell^-\bar\nu_\ell$ decays reconstructed in $189 \, \mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of collision data collected by the Belle II experiment, located at the SuperKEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. Partial decay rates are reported as functions of the recoil parameter $w$ and three decay angles separately for electron and muon final states. We obtain $|V_{cb}|$ using the Boyd-Grinstein-Lebed and Caprini-Lellouch-Neubert parametrizations, and find $|V_{cb}|_\mathrm{BGL}=(40.57\pm 0.31 \pm 0.95\pm 0.58)\times 10^{-3}$ and $|V_{cb}|_\mathrm{CLN}=(40.13 \pm 0.27 \pm 0.93\pm 0.58 )\times 10^{-3}$ with the uncertainties denoting statistical components, systematic components, and components from the lattice QCD input, respectively. The branching fraction is measured to be ${\cal B}(\overline{B}^0\to D^{*+}\ell^-\bar\nu_\ell)=(4.922 \pm 0.023 \pm 0.220)\%$. The ratio of branching fractions for electron and muon final states is found to be $0.998 \pm 0.009 \pm 0.020$. In addition, we determine the forward-backward angular asymmetry and the $D^{*+}$ longitudinal polarization fractions. All results are compatible with lepton-flavor universality in the Standard Model.

203. Hybrid SBI or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Learn the Likelihood

Abstract: We propose a new framework for the analysis of current and future cosmological surveys, which combines perturbative methods (PT) on large scales with conditional simulation-based implicit inference (SBI) on small scales. This enables modeling of a wide range of statistics across all scales using only small-volume simulations, drastically reducing computational costs, and avoids the assumption of an explicit small-scale likelihood. As a proof-of-principle for this hybrid simulation-based inference (HySBI) approach, we apply it to dark matter density fields and constrain cosmological parameters using both the power spectrum and wavelet coefficients, finding promising results that significantly outperform classical PT methods. We additionally lay out a roadmap for the next steps necessary to implement HySBI on actual survey data, including consideration of bias, systematics, and customized simulations. Our approach provides a realistic way to scale SBI to future survey volumes, avoiding prohibitive computational costs., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures

Abstract: The shapes of galaxies trace scalar physics in the late-Universe through the large-scale gravitational potential. Are they also sensitive to higher-spin physics? We present a general study into the observational consequences of vector and tensor modes in the early and late Universe, through the statistics of cosmic shear and its higher-order generalization, flexion. Higher-spin contributions arise from both gravitational lensing and intrinsic alignments, and we give the leading-order correlators for each (some of which have been previously derived), in addition to their flat-sky limits. In particular, we find non-trivial sourcing of shear $EB$ and $BB$ spectra, depending on the parity properties of the source. We consider two sources of vector and tensor modes: scale-invariant primordial fluctuations and cosmic strings, forecasting the detectability of each for upcoming surveys. Shear is found to be a powerful probe of cosmic strings, primarily through the continual sourcing of vector modes; flexion adds little to the constraining power except on very small scales ($\ell\gtrsim 1000$), though it could be an intriguing probe of as-yet-unknown rank-three tensors or halo-scale physics. 205. Symmetry Reduction and Rotation Numbers for Poncelet maps

Abstract: Poncelet maps are circle maps constructed geometrically for a pair of nested ellipses; they are related to the classic billiard map on an elliptical domain when the orbit has an elliptical caustic. Here we show how the rotation number of the elliptical billiard map can be obtained from a symmetry generated from the flow of a pendulum Hamiltonian system. When such a symmetry flow has a global cross section, we previously showed that there are coordinates in which the map takes a reduced, skew-product form on a covering space. In particular, for elliptic billiard map this gives an explicit form for the rotation number of each orbit. We show that the family Poncelet maps on a pencil of ellipses is conjugate to a corresponding family of billiard maps, and thus the Poncelet maps inherit the one-parameter family of continuous symmetries. Such a pencil has a single parameter, the pencil eccentricity, which becomes the modulus of the Jacobi elliptic functions used to construct a covering space that simultaneously simplifies all of the Poncelet maps. The rotation number of the Poncelet map for any element of a pencil can then be written in terms of elliptic functions as well. An implication is that the rotation number of the pencil has a monotonicity property: it is monotone increasing as the caustic ellipse shrinks. The resulting expression for the rotation number gives an explicit condition for Poncelet porisms, the parameters for which the rotation number is rational. For such parameters, an orbit of the corresponding Poncelet map is periodic: it forms a polygon for any initial point. These universal parameters also solve the inverse problem: given a rotation number, which member of a pencil has a Poncelet map with that rotation number? Abstract: We present the methods and results from the discovery and photometric measurement of 26 bright (VR $>$ 24 trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs) during the first year (2019-20) of the DECam Ecliptic Exploration Project (DEEP). The DEEP survey is an observational TNO survey with wide sky coverage, high sensitivity, and a fast photometric cadence. We apply a computer vision technique known as a progressive probabilistic Hough transform to identify linearly-moving transient sources within DEEP photometric catalogs. After subsequent visual vetting, we provide a photometric and astrometric catalog of our TNOs. By modeling the partial lightcurve amplitude distribution of the DEEP TNOs using Monte Carlo techniques, we find our data to be most consistent with an average TNO axis ratio b/a $<$ 0.5, implying a population dominated by non-spherical objects. Based on ellipsoidal gravitational stability arguments, we find our data to be consistent with a TNO population containing a high fraction of contact binaries or other extremely non-spherical objects. We also discuss our data as evidence that the expected binarity fraction of TNOs may be size-dependent.

Abstract: We report a search for the charged-lepton flavor violation in $\Upsilon(2S) \to \ell^\mp\tau^\pm$ ($\ell=e,\mu$) decays using a $25~\fbi$ $\Upsilon(2S)$ sample collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^{+}$$e^-$ asymmetric-energy collider. We find no evidence for a signal and set upper limits on the branching fractions ($\mathcal{B}$) at 90\% confidence level. We obtain the most stringent upper limits: $\mathcal{B}(\Ytomutau) < 0.23 \times 10^{-6}$ and $\mathcal{B}(\Ytoetau) < 1.12 \times 10^{-6}$., Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures, Submitted to JHEP

Abstract: Over a field of characteristic 0, every ring of invariants of any finite group is Cohen-Macaulay. This is not true for fields of positive characteristic. We consider permutation representations and their invariant rings over fields $\mathbb{F}_p$ of prime order. We give an efficient algorithm which for any given permutation representation, determines those primes $p$ for which the invariant ring over $\mathbb{F}_p$ is Cohen-Macaulay. Extensions to subgroups of reflection groups other than the symmetric group are indicated.

Abstract: We observe the process $\Upsilon(2S)\to D_s^{(*)+} D_{sJ}^{-}$ and continuum production $e^+e^- \to D_s^{(*)+} D_{sJ}^- $ at $\sqrt{s} = 10.52$ GeV (and their charge conjugates) using the data samples collected by the Belle detector at KEKB, where $D_{sJ}^-$ is $D_{s1}(2536)^-$ or $D^{*}_{s2}(2573)^-$. Both $D_{sJ}^-$ states are identified through their decay into $\bar{K}\bar{D}^{(*)}$. We measure the products of branching fractions ${\cal B}(\Upsilon(2S) \to D_{s}^{(*)+} D_{sJ}^-) {\cal B}(D_{sJ}^-\to \bar{K} \bar{D}^{(*)})$ and the Born cross sections $\sigma^{\rm Born}(e^+e^- \to D_{s}^{(*)+} D_{sJ}^-) {\cal B}(D_{sJ}^-\to \bar{K} \bar{D}^{(*)})$, and then compare the ratios $R_1 \equiv {\cal B}(\Upsilon(2S)\to D_{s}^{(*)+} D_{sJ}^-)/{\cal B}(\Upsilon(2S)\to\mu^{+}\mu^-)$ for $\Upsilon(2S)$ decays and $R_2 \equiv \sigma^{\rm Born}(e^+e^-\to D_{s}^{(*)+}D_{sJ}^-)/\sigma^{\rm Born}(e^+e^-\to \mu^{+}\mu^-)$ for continuum production. We obtain $R_1/R_2 = 9.7\pm 2.3 \pm 1.1$, $6.8 \pm 2.1 \pm 0.8$, $10.2 \pm 3.3 \pm 2.5$, and $3.4 \pm 2.1 \pm 0.5$ for the $D_s^+ D_{s1}(2536)^-$, $D_s^{*+} D_{s1}(2536)^-$, $D_s^+ D_{s2}^{*}(2573)^{-}$, and $D_s^{*+} D_{s2}^{*}(2573)^{-}$ final states in the $D_{sJ}^-\to K^{-} \bar{D}^{(*)0}$ modes, respectively. Therefore, the strong decay is expected to dominate in the $\Upsilon(2S)\to D_{s}^{(*)+}D_{sJ}^-$ processes. We also measure the ratios of branching fractions ${\cal B}(D_{s1}(2536)^-\to K_S^0 D^{*}(2010)^{-})/{\cal B}(D_{s1}(2536)^-\to K^{-} D^{*}(2007)^0) = 0.48 \pm 0.07 \pm 0.02$ and ${\cal B}(D_{s2}^{*}(2573)^- \to K_S^0 D^-)/{\cal B}(D_{s2}^{*}(2573)^- \to K^{-}D^0) = 0.49 \pm 0.10 \pm 0.02$, which are consistent with isospin symmetry. The second ratio is the first measurement of this quantity. Here, the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic.

Abstract: We present a new measurement of the positive muon magnetic anomaly, $a_\mu \equiv (g_\mu - 2)/2$, from the Fermilab Muon $g\!-\!2$ Experiment using data collected in 2019 and 2020. We have analyzed more than 4 times the number of positrons from muon decay than in our previous result from 2018 data. The systematic error is reduced by more than a factor of 2 due to better running conditions, a more stable beam, and improved knowledge of the magnetic field weighted by the muon distribution, $\tilde{\omega}'^{}_p$, and of the anomalous precession frequency corrected for beam dynamics effects, $\omega_a$. From the ratio $\omega_a / \tilde{\omega}'^{}_p$, together with precisely determined external parameters, we determine $a_\mu = 116\,592\,057(25) \times 10^{-11}$ (0.21 ppm). Combining this result with our previous result from the 2018 data, we obtain $a_\mu\text{(FNAL)} = 116\,592\,055(24) \times 10^{-11}$ (0.20 ppm). The new experimental world average is $a_\mu (\text{Exp}) = 116\,592\,059(22)\times 10^{-11}$ (0.19 ppm), which represents a factor of 2 improvement in precision., Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures

Abstract: Mysterious craters, with anomalously high concentrations of methane, have formed in the Yamal and Taymyr peninsulas of Siberia since 2014. While thawing permafrost owing to climate warming promotes methane releases, it is unknown how such release might be associated with explosion and crater formation. A significant volume of surface ice-melt water can migrate downward driven by osmotic pressure associated with a cryopeg, a lens of salty water below. Abstract: We report results from a study of $B^\pm \rightarrow DK^\pm$ decays followed by $D$ decaying to $CP$~eigenstates, where $D$ indicates a $D^0$ or $\bar{D}^{0}$ meson. These decays are sensitive to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity-triangle angle $\phi_{3}$. The results are based on a combined analysis of the final data set of $772 \times 10^6~B\bar{B}$ pairs collected by the Belle experiment and a data set of $198 \times 10^6~B\bar{B}$ pairs collected by the Belle~II experiment, both in electron-positron collisions at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance. We measure the $CP$ asymmetries to be $\mathcal{ A}_{CP +} =~(+12.5 \pm 5.8 \pm 1.4)\% $ and $\mathcal{ A}_{CP -} =~(-16.7 \pm 5.7 \pm 0.6)\%$, and the ratios of branching fractions to be $\mathcal{ R}_{CP+}=~1.164 \pm 0.081 \pm 0.036 $ and $\mathcal{ R}_{CP-} =~1.151 \pm 0.074 \pm 0.019$. The first contribution to the uncertainties is statistical, and the second is systematic. The asymmetries $\mathcal{A}_{CP +}$ and $\mathcal{A}_{CP -}$ have similar magnitudes and opposite signs; their difference corresponds to 3.5~standard deviations. From these values we calculate 68.3\% confidence intervals of ($8.5^{\circ}<\phi_{3}<16.5^{\circ}$) or ($84.5^{\circ}<\phi_{3}<95.5^{\circ}$) or ($163.3^{\circ}<\phi_{3}<171.5^{\circ}$) and $0.321

Abstract: New physics in the early Universe could lead to parity-violation in the late Universe, sourcing statistics whose sign changes under point reflection. The best constraints on such phenomena have come from the Planck temperature fluctuations; however, this is already cosmic-variance-limited down to relatively small scales, thus only small improvements are expected in the future. Here, we search for signatures of parity-violation in the polarized CMB, using the Planck PR4 $T$- and $E$-mode data. We perform both a simulation-based blind test for any parity-violating signal at $\ell<518$, and a targeted search for primordial $U(1)$ gauge fields (and the amplitudes of a generic collapsed model) at $\ell<2000$. In all cases, we find no evidence for new physics, with the model-independent test finding consistency with the FFP10/NPIPE simulation suite at $(-)0.4\sigma$, and the gauge field test constraining the fractional amplitude of gauge fields during inflation to be below $6\times 10^{-19}$ at $95\%$ confidence level for a fiducial model. The addition of polarization data can significantly improve the constraints, depending on the particular model of primordial physics, and the bounds will tighten significantly with the inclusion of smaller-scale information., Comment: 16 pages, 10 figures. Abstract: We present the first comprehensive tests of light-lepton universality in the angular distributions of semileptonic $B^0$-meson decays to charged spin-1 charmed mesons. We measure five angular-asymmetry observables as functions of the decay recoil that are sensitive to lepton-universality-violating contributions. We use events where one neutral $B$ is fully reconstructed in $\Upsilon\left(4S\right)\to{}B \overline{B}$ decays in data corresponding to $189~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ integrated luminosity from electron-positron collisions collected with the Belle II detector. We find no significant deviation from the standard model expectations.

Abstract: We present an analysis of the first connection mosaic made by the SPICE instrument on board of the ESA / NASA Solar Orbiter mission on March 2nd, 2022. The data will be used to map coronal composition that will be compared with in-situ measurements taken by SWA/HIS to establish the coronal origin of the solar wind plasma observed at Solar Orbiter. The SPICE spectral lines were chosen to have varying sensitivity to the First Ionization Potential (FIP) effect, and therefore the radiances of the spectral lines will vary significantly depending on whether the elemental composition is coronal or photospheric. We investigate the link between the behavior of sulfur with the hypothesis that Alfv\'en waves drive FIP fractionation above the chromosphere. We perform temperature diagnostics using line ratios and Emission Measure (EM) loci, and compute relative FIP biases using three different approaches (two line ratio (2LR), ratios of linear combinations of spectral lines (LCR), and differential emission measure (DEM) inversion) to perform composition diagnostics in the corona. We then compare the SPICE composition analysis and EUI data of the potential solar wind source regions to the SWA / HIS data products. Radiance maps are extracted from SPICE spectral data cubes, with values matching previous observations. We find isothermal plasma of around LogT = 5.8 for the active region loops targeted, and that higher FIP-bias values are present at the footpoints of the coronal loops associated with two active regions. Comparing the results with the SWA/HIS data products encourages us to think that Solar Orbiter was connected to a source of slow solar wind during this observation campaign. Abstract: Utilizing wind hovering techniques of soaring birds can save energy expenditure and improve the flight endurance of micro air vehicles (MAVs). Here, we present a novel method for fully autonomous orographic soaring without a priori knowledge of the wind field. Specifically, we devise an Incremental Nonlinear Dynamic Inversion (INDI) controller with control allocation, adapting it for autonomous soaring. This allows for both soaring and the use of the throttle if necessary, without changing any gain or parameter during the flight. Furthermore, we propose a simulated-annealing-based optimization method to search for soaring positions. This enables for the first time an MAV to autonomously find a feasible soaring position while minimizing throttle usage and other control efforts. Autonomous orographic soaring was performed in the wind tunnel. The wind speed and incline of a ramp were changed during the soaring flight. The MAV was able to perform autonomous orographic soaring for flight times of up to 30 minutes. The mean throttle usage was only 0.25% for the entire soaring flight, whereas normal powered flight requires 38%. Abstract: Bacterial flagella and type IV pili (TFP) are surface appendages that enable motility and mechanosensing through distinct mechanisms. These structures were previously thought to have no components in common. Here, we report that TFP and some flagella share proteins PilO, PilN, and PilM, which we identified as part of the Helicobacter pylori flagellar motor. H. pylori mutants lacking PilO or PilN migrated better than wild type in semisolid agar because they continued swimming rather than aggregated into microcolonies, mimicking the TFP-regulated surface response. Like their TFP homologs, flagellar PilO/PilN heterodimers formed a peripheral cage that encircled the flagellar motor. These results indicate that PilO and PilN act similarly in flagella and TFP by differentially regulating motility and microcolony formation when bacteria encounter surfaces.

Abstract: Jammed granular media and glasses exhibit spatial long-range correlations as a result of mechanical equilibrium. However, the existence of such correlations in the flowing matter, where the mechanical equilibrium is unattainable, has remained elusive. Here, we investigate this problem in the context of the percolation of interparticle forces in flowing granular media. We find that the flow rate introduces an effective long-range correlation, which plays the role of a relevant perturbation giving rise to a spectrum of varying exponents on a critical line as a function of the flow rate. Remarkably, our numerical simulations along with analytical arguments predict a crossover flow rate $\dot{\gamma}_c \simeq 10^{-5}$ below which the effect of induced disorder is weak and the universality of the force chain structure is shown to be given by the standard rigidity percolation. Abstract: A DC cylindrical magnetron sputtering system has been commissioned and operated to deposit Nb3Sn onto 2.6 GHz Nb SRF cavities. After optimizing the deposition conditions in a mock-up cavity, Nb-Sn films are deposited first on flat samples by multilayer sequential sputtering of Nb and Sn, and later annealed at 950 {\deg}C for 3 hours. X-ray diffraction of the films showed multiple peaks for the Nb3Sn phase and Nb (substrate). No peaks from any Nb3Sn compound other than Nb3Sn were detected. Later three 2.6 GHz Nb SRF cavities are coated with ~1 $\mu$m thick Nb3Sn. The first Nb3Sn coated cavity reached close to Eacc = 8 MV/m, demonstrating a quality factor Q0 of 3.2 x 108 at Tbath = 4.4 K and Eacc = 5 MV/m, about a factor of three higher than that of Nb at this temperature. Q0 was close to 1.1 x 109, dominated by the residual resistance, at 2 K and Eacc = 5 MV/m. The Nb3Sn coated cavities demonstrated Tc in the range of 17.9 - 18 K. Abstract: We present a measurement of time-dependent rate asymmetries in $B^0\to \phi K^0_S$ decays to search for non-standard-model physics in $b\to q \overline{q}s$ transitions. The data sample is collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider in 2019-2022 and contains $(387\pm 6)\times 10^6$ bottom-antibottom mesons from $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance decays. We reconstruct $162\pm17$ signal events and extract the charge-parity ($CP$) violating parameters from a fit to the distribution of the proper-decay-time difference of the two $B$ mesons. The measured direct and mixing-induced $CP$ asymmetries are $A=0.31\pm0.20\pm0.05$ and $S=0.54\pm0.26^{+0.06}_{-0.08}$, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The results are compatible with the $CP$ asymmetries observed in $b\to c\overline{c} s$ transitions.

236. Available energy of trapped electrons in Miller tokamak equilibria

Abstract: Available energy (\AE{}), which quantifies the maximum amount of thermal energy that may be liberated and converted into instabilities and turbulence, has shown to be a useful metric for predicting saturated energy fluxes in trapped-electron-mode-driven turbulence. Here, we calculate and investigate the \AE{} in the analytical tokamak equilibria introduced by \citet{Miller1998NoncircularModel}. The \AE{} of trapped electrons reproduces various trends also observed in experiments; negative shear, increasing Shafranov shift, vertical elongation, and negative triangularity can all be stabilising, as indicated by a reduction in \AE{}, although it is strongly dependent on the chosen equilibrium. Comparing \AE{} with saturated energy flux estimates from the \textsc{tglf} model, we find fairly good correspondence, showcasing that \AE{} can be useful to predict trends. We go on to investigate \AE{} and find that negative triangularity is especially beneficial in vertically elongated configurations with positive shear or low gradients. We furthermore extract a gradient threshold-like quantity from \AE{} and find that it behaves similarly to gyrokinetic gradient thresholds: it tends to increase linearly with magnetic shear, and negative triangularity leads to an especially high threshold. We next optimise the device geometry for minimal \AE{} and find that the optimum is strongly dependent on equilibrium parameters, e.g. magnetic shear or pressure gradient. Investigating the competing effects of increasing the density gradient, the pressure gradient, and decreasing the shear, we find regimes that have steep gradients yet low \AE{}, and that such a regime is inaccessible in negative-triangularity tokamaks., Comment: 31 pages, 16 figures

Abstract: We report the first search for a non-standard-model resonance decaying into $\tau$ pairs in $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow \mu^{+}\mu^{-} \tau^+\tau^-$ events in the 3.6-10 GeV/$c^{2}$ mass range. We use a 62.8 fb$^{-1}$ sample of $e^+e^-$ collisions collected at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB collider. The analysis probes three different models predicting a spin-1 particle coupling only to the heavier lepton families, a Higgs-like spin-0 particle that couples preferentially to charged leptons (leptophilic scalar), and an axion-like particle, respectively. We observe no evidence for a signal and set exclusion limits at 90% confidence level on the product of cross section and branching fraction into $\tau$ pairs, ranging from 0.7 fb to 24 fb, and on the couplings of these processes. We obtain world-leading constraints on the couplings for the leptophilic scalar model for masses above 6.5 GeV/$c^2$ and for the axion-like particle model over the entire mass range.

238. Signatures of a Parity-Violating Universe

Abstract: What would a parity-violating universe look like? We present a numerical and theoretical study of mirror asymmetries in the late universe, using a new suite of $N$-body simulations: QUIJOTE-Odd. These feature parity-violating initial conditions, injected via a simple ansatz for the imaginary primordial trispectrum and evolved into the non-linear regime. We find that the realization-averaged power spectrum, bispectrum, halo mass function, and matter PDF are not affected by our modifications to the initial conditions, deep into the non-linear regime, which we argue arises from rotational and translational invariance. In contrast, the parity-odd trispectrum of matter (measured using a new estimator), shows distinct signatures proportional to the parity-violating parameter, $p_{\rm NL}$, which sets the amplitude of the primordial trispectrum. We additionally find intriguing signatures in the angular momentum of halos, with the primordial trispectrum inducing a non-zero correlation between angular momentum and smoothed velocity field, proportional to $p_{\rm NL}$. Abstract: The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) completed its five-month Survey Validation in May 2021. Spectra of stellar and extragalactic targets from Survey Validation constitute the first major data sample from the DESI survey. This paper describes the public release of those spectra, the catalogs of derived properties, and the intermediate data products. In total, the public release includes good-quality spectral information from 466,447 objects targeted as part of the Milky Way Survey, 428,758 as part of the Bright Galaxy Survey, 227,318 as part of the Luminous Red Galaxy sample, 437,664 as part of the Emission Line Galaxy sample, and 76,079 as part of the Quasar sample. In addition, the release includes spectral information from 137,148 objects that expand the scope beyond the primary samples as part of a series of secondary programs. Abstract: The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) was designed to conduct a survey covering 14,000 deg$^2$ over five years to constrain the cosmic expansion history through precise measurements of Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO). The scientific program for DESI was evaluated during a five month Survey Validation (SV) campaign before beginning full operations. This program produced deep spectra of tens of thousands of objects from each of the stellar (MWS), bright galaxy (BGS), luminous red galaxy (LRG), emission line galaxy (ELG), and quasar target classes. These SV spectra were used to optimize redshift distributions, characterize exposure times, determine calibration procedures, and assess observational overheads for the five-year program. In this paper, we present the final target selection algorithms, redshift distributions, and projected cosmology constraints resulting from those studies. We also present a `One-Percent survey' conducted at the conclusion of Survey Validation covering 140 deg$^2$ using the final target selection algorithms with exposures of a depth typical of the main survey. The Survey Validation indicates that DESI will be able to complete the full 14,000 deg$^2$ program with spectroscopically-confirmed targets from the MWS, BGS, LRG, ELG, and quasar programs with total sample sizes of 7.2, 13.8, 7.46, 15.7, and 2.87 million, respectively. These samples will allow exploration of the Milky Way halo, clustering on all scales, and BAO measurements with a statistical precision of 0.28% over the redshift interval $z<1.1$, 0.39% over the redshift interval $1.1

Abstract: Magnetic fields in galaxies and galaxy clusters are believed to be the result of the amplification of intergalactic seed fields during the formation of large-scale structures in the universe. However, the origin, strength, and morphology of this intergalactic magnetic field (IGMF) remain unknown. Lower limits on (or indirect detection of) the IGMF can be obtained from observations of high-energy gamma rays from distant blazars. Gamma rays interact with the extragalactic background light to produce electron-positron pairs, which can subsequently initiate electromagnetic cascades. The $\gamma$-ray signature of the cascade depends on the IGMF since it deflects the pairs. Here we report on a new search for this cascade emission using a combined data set from the Fermi Large Area Telescope and the High Energy Stereoscopic System. Using state-of-the-art Monte Carlo predictions for the cascade signal, our results place a lower limit on the IGMF of $B > 7.1\times10^{-16}$ G for a coherence length of 1 Mpc even when blazar duty cycles as short as 10 yr are assumed. This improves on previous lower limits by a factor of 2. For longer duty cycles of $10^4$ ($10^7$) yr, IGMF strengths below $1.8\times10^{-14}$ G ($3.9\times10^{-14}$ G) are excluded, which rules out specific models for IGMF generation in the early universe., Comment: 20 pages, 7 figures, 4 tables. Abstract: We derive optimal estimators for the binned two-, three-, and four-point correlators of statistically isotropic tensor fields defined on the sphere, in the presence of arbitrary beams, inpainting, and masking. This is a conceptually straightforward extension of the associated scalar field Philcox (2023), but upgraded to include spin-$2$ fields such as Cosmic Microwave Background polarization and galaxy shear, and parity-violating physics in all correlators. All estimators can be realized using spin-weighted spherical harmonic transforms and Monte Carlo summation and are are implemented in the public code PolyBin, with computation scaling, at most, with the total number of bins. We perform a suite of validation tests verifying that the estimators are unbiased and, in limiting regimes, minimum variance. These facilitate general binned analyses of higher-point functions, and allow constraints to be placed on various phenomena, such as non-separable inflationary physics (novelly including polarized trispectra), non-linear evolution in the late Universe, and cosmic parity-violation., Comment: 36 tantalizing pages, 9 figures; accepted by Phys. Abstract: High-performance fusion plasmas, requiring high pressure $\beta$, are not well-understood in stellarator-type experiments. Here, the effect of $\beta$ on ion-temperature-gradient-driven (ITG) turbulence is studied in Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X), showing that subdominant kinetic ballooning modes (KBMs) are unstable well below the ideal MHD threshold and get strongly excited in the turbulence. By zonal-flow erosion, these sub-threshold KBMs (stKBMs) affect ITG saturation and enable higher heat fluxes. Abstract: We measure $C\!P$ asymmetries and branching-fraction ratios for $B^\pm \to DK^\pm$ and $D\pi^\pm$ decays with $D\to K^0_{\rm S} K^\pm\pi^\mp$, where $D$ is a superposition of $D^0$ and $\bar{D}^0$. We use the full data set of the Belle experiment, containing $772\times 10^6~B\bar{B}$ pairs, and data from the Belle~II experiment, containing $387\times 10^6~B\bar{B}$ pairs, both collected in electron-positron collisions at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance. Abstract: Additional spin-0 particles appear in many extensions of the standard model. We search for long-lived spin-0 particles $S$ in $B$-meson decays mediated by a $b\to s$ quark transition in $e^+e^-$ collisions at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance at the Belle II experiment. Based on a sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $189 \mathrm{\,fb}^{-1}$, we observe no evidence for signal. We set model-independent upper limits on the product of branching fractions $\mathrm{Br}(B^0\to K^*(892)^0(\to K^+\pi^-)S)\times \mathrm{Br}(S\to x^+x^-)$ and $\mathrm{Br}(B^+\to K^+S)\times \mathrm{Br}(S\to x^+x^-)$, where $x^+x^-$ indicates $e^+e^-, \mu^+\mu^-, \pi^+\pi^-$, or $K^+K^-$, as functions of $S$ mass and lifetime at the level of $10^{-7}$.

246. Study of a pulsar wind nebula candidate around the intermediate-age pulsar PSR J1413-6205 with H.E.S.S

Abstract: Very-high-energy $\gamma$-ray emission provides constraints on the morphology and the physics mechanisms involved in the evolution of pulsar wind nebulae (PWNe). In the Galactic plane, around $312 ^{\circ}$ of Galactic longitude, a promising region two-degree wide containing five powerful pulsars may offer a new insight on the transition between TeV-emitting PWNe and pulsar halos. Their rotational energies range from $10^{35}$ to $10^{37}$ erg s$^{-1}$ for ages between 13.6 and 62.8 kyr. Extended emission is detected with H.E.S.S. (High Energy Stereoscopic System) in their vicinity, notably around the pulsar PSR J1413-6205. We processed 124 hours of H.E.S.S observations with an algorithm improving background fitting for the study of extended sources. We applied a three-dimensional likelihood analysis technique to model the different sources in the region using a configuration that optimizes the collection area at the highest energies. This contribution focuses on the detection of a new extended source around PSR J1413-6205 over 5$\sigma$ with a hard spectrum. Preliminary results on this source show a radius of $0.12 ^{\circ}$ $\pm$ $0.01 ^{\circ}_{\rm stat}$, an index of 2.06 $\pm$ 0.20$_{\rm stat}$ and a lower limit on a cut-off energy of 17 TeV, at a 90% confidence level. Abstract: We measure the lifetime of the $D_s^+$ meson using a data sample of 207 fb$^{-1}$ collected by the Belle II experiment running at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. The lifetime is determined by fitting the decay-time distribution of a sample of $116\times 10^3$ $D_s^+\rightarrow\phi\pi^+$ decays. Our result is $\tau^{}_{D^+_s} = (499.5\pm 1.7\pm 0.9)$ fs, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Abstract: We search for the $B^0\to p\bar{\Sigma}^0\pi^-$ decay with $\bar{\Sigma}^0 \to \bar{\Lambda}\gamma$, where the $\gamma$ is not measured, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 711 $\rm{fb^{-1}}$ which contains 772 $\times$ $10^{6}$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs, collected around the $\Upsilon$(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. We measure for the first time the $B^0\to p\bar{\Sigma}^0\pi^-$ branching fraction to be $\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to p \bar\Sigma^0 \pi^-) = (1.17^{+0.43}_{-0.40}(\text{stat})\pm 0.07(\text{syst})) \times 10^{-6}$ with a significance of $3.0\sigma$. Abstract: We present a measurement of the $\tau$-lepton mass using a sample of about 175 million $e^+e^- \to \tau^+\tau^-$ events collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB $e^+e^-$ collider at a center-of-mass energy of $10.579\,\mathrm{Ge\kern -0.1em V}$. This sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of $190\,\mathrm{fb^{-1}}$. We use the kinematic edge of the $\tau $ pseudomass distribution in the decay ${\tau^-\to\pi^-\pi^+\pi^-\nu_\tau}$ and measure the $\tau$ mass to be $1777.09 \pm 0.08 \pm 0.11 \,\mathrm{Me\kern -0.1em V\!/c^2}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This result is the most precise to date.

Abstract: We measure the cross section of $e^+e^-\rightarrow\eta_c J/\psi$ at the $\Upsilon(nS) (n=1$ -- $5)$ on-resonance and 10.52 GeV off-resonance energy points using the full data sample collected by the Belle detector with an integrated luminosity of $955~\rm fb^{-1}$. We also search for double charmonium production in $e^+e^-\rightarrow\eta_c J/\psi$ via initial state radiation near the $\eta_c J/\psi$ threshold. No evident signal of the double charmonium state is found, but evidence for the $e^+e^-\rightarrow\eta_c J/\psi$ process is found with a statistical significance greater than $3.3\sigma$ near the $\eta_c J/\psi$ threshold. The average cross section near the threshold is measured and upper limits of cross sections are set for other regions.
