- Abstract
Patterns of how the Norway lobster (Nephrops norvegicus L.) emerges from its burrow in relation to sea currents at different times of the day-night cycles is currently unknown. The degree of influence of these variables when simulated in controlled laboratory conditions entails great technical and technological difficulties. This paper presents the development of an integrated control system that manages a set of aquariums generating water currents and patterns of light. The solution proposed combines the use of commercial equipment and a custom electronic design in order to achieve the required specifications with cost-minimization. The control system has circulation pumps and visible and infrared LED lighting to recreate different currents and light conditions. Preliminary results show the control system works properly and all components responded as expected during the experiments. This article discusses a passage of a recent article by Quilter et alia (2010), where there is a reference to the Mochica numbering system, and where Hovdhaugen is cited as an authority for an analysis of two alleged suffixes recursively used in the numbering of this language. What we propose in this paper is to prove that the observation of Quilter et alia is wrong with respect to an alternative basis to the decimal numbers in the Mochica numbering system, and with respect to Hovdhaugen’s proposal, there are are not two suffixes, but a unique lexeme. To prove our assertions, we reviewed the basic concepts in a numeral system and checked out all the contexts in which these allged prefixes appear, providing evidence for a different analysis.

Nivel de Evidência I, estudo terapeutico. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of chronic ethanol consumption and alcohol detoxication on the mechanical resistance of bone and bone neoformation around dense hydroxyapatite implants (DHA) in rats. METHODS: Fifteen rats were separated into three groups: (1) control group (CT); (2) chronic alcoholic (CA), and (3) disintoxicated (DI). After four weeks, a DHA was implanted in the right tibia of the animals, and the CA group continued consuming ethanol, while the DI group started detoxication. The solid and liquid feeding of the animals was recorded, and a new alcohol dilution was effected every 48 hours. After 13 weeks, the animals were euthanized and their biological material was collected. RESULTS: Bone tissue was found around DHA in all the animals. Group CA showed less bone neoformation, lower levels of ionic and total calcium when compared to the animals of the CT and DI groups. The DI animals showed higher values in all the variables in relation to the CA group. CONCLUSION: Ethanol consumption interfered in osteogenesis around the DHA implants, and in calcium levels and mechanical bone resistance. Alcohol detoxication was effective, as it increased osteogenesis, DHA osteointegration, calcemia, and mechanical resistance of the bone. Level of Evidence: Level I, therapeutic studies

Rizzoni L.B., Gioso M.M., Ribeiro S.D. de A., Ribeiro A.C., Fernandes C.A. de C. & Garcia J.A.D. [Application of cloprostenol in the postpartum period of dairy goats.] Aplicação do cloprostenol sódico no período puerperal de cabras leiteiras. Revista Brasileira de Medicina Veterinária, 36(2):0183-187, 2014. Departamento de Medicina Veterinária, Universidade José do Rosário Vellano, Rodovia MG 179, km 0, Alfenas, MG 37130-000, Brasil. E-mail: leandro_vet@hotmail.com.br This study assessed the effects of application of cloprostenol in postpartum dairy goats. We used twenty-nine Anglonubianas goats, divided evenly into two groups: group PGF2a (0.133 mg cloprostenol) and control group (0.5 mL of saline (0.9%)), both received two doses on days 1 and 4 postpartum. By transrectal ultrasonography on days 1, 4, 10, 16, 22, 28, 34, 40 and 46 after birth, were evaluated uterus and ovaries. The uterine diameter behaved differently between the groups (P<0.05) in animals PGF2a there was a marked reduction in uterine diameter for 22 days postpartum (3.5 ± 0.6 cm), animals control, occurred until 28 days postpartum (3.6 ± 0.8 cm). The expulsion of uterine contents was earlier in animals PGF2a (D40), while in control animals was completed in 46 days postpartum (P<0.05), as occurred with the presence of cervical mucus (absent in animals PGF2a - D34 and control - D40). There was follicular growth in all animals (P> 0.05), however there were no ovulations. The cloprostenol during the study period acted beneficially in the process of uterine involution and the expulsion of uterine contents in dairy goats., Objetivou-se verificar os efeitos da aplicação do cloprostenol sódico no puerpério de cabras leiteiras.

The left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) occurs in response to the hemodynamic overload in some physiological and pathological conditions. However, it has not been completely elucidated whether the primary stimulation for the hypertrophy is the mechanical stretching of the heart, neurohumoral factors, or even the interaction of both. These factors are translated inside the cell as biochemical alterations that lead to the activation of second (cytosolic) and third (nuclear) messengers that will act in the cell nucleus, regulating transcription, and will finally determine the genic expression that induces LVH. The LVH is characterized by structural alterations due to the increase in the cardiomyocyte dimensions, the proliferation of the interstitial connective tissue and the rarefaction of the coronary microcirculation. Recently, nitric oxide (•NO) has appeared as an important regulator of cardiac remodeling, specifically recognized as an anti-hypertrophic mediator. Some studies have demonstrated the cellular targets, the anti-hypertrophic signaling pathways and the functional role of •NO. Thus, the LVH seems to develop as a result of the loss of the balance between the pro and the anti-hypertrophic signaling pathways. This new knowledge about the pro and anti-hypertrophic signaling pathways will allow the development of new strategies in the treatment of pathological LVH.

- Abstract
ABSTRACT This study aimed to address the issue of the use of anabolic agents by adolescents and their biological and psychosocial consequences, as well as identify the possible relation between accession and the existence of models of body beauty. During DNA replication, the WEE1 kinase is responsible for safeguarding genomic integrity by phosphorylating and thus inhibiting cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs), which are the driving force of the cell cycle. Consequentially, wee1 mutant plants fail to respond properly to problems arising during DNA replication and are hypersensitive to replication stress. Here, we report the identification of the polα-2 mutant, mutated in the catalytic subunit of DNA polymerase α, as a suppressor mutant of wee1. The mutated protein appears to be less stable, causing a loss of interaction with its subunits and resulting in a prolonged S-phase. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
