Abstract

We report the structural and magnetic characterization of La-substituted Gd$_{1-x}$La$_x$RhIn$_5$ ($x\leq$ 0.50) antiferromagnetic (AFM) compounds. The magnetic responses of pure GdRhIn$_5$ are well described by a $S=7/2$ Heisenberg model. When Gd$^{3+}$ ions are substituted by La$^{3+}$, the maximum of the susceptibility and the inflection point of the magnetic specific heat are systematically shifted to lower temperatures accompanied by a broadening of the transition. The data is qualitatively explained by a phenomenological model which incorporates a distribution of magnetic regions with different transition temperatures ($T_N$). The universal behaviour of the low temperature specific heat is found for La (vacancies) concentrations below $x=0.40$ which is consistent with spin wave excitations. For $x=0.5$ this universal behaviour is lost. The sharp second order transition of GdRhIn$_5$ is destroyed, as seen in the specific heat data, contrary to what is expected for a Heisenberg model. The results are discussed in the context of the magnetic behavior observed for the La-substituted (Ce,Tb,Nd)RhIn$_5$ compounds.

Abstract

Abstract Aim To describe the transcultural adaptation process of the Children's Anxiety Questionnaire (CAQ) for the Brazilian culture. Design This is a methodological study of cross‐cultural adaptation. Methods Study conducted in Brazil and Sweden involved the following steps: preparation, translation, synthesis of translations, back‐translation and review, and harmonization of the translations by a committee of 13 healthcare professionals using the content validity index (CVI). Cognitive debriefing, using children between 4–10 years old, was completed by 15 children to determine if the images corresponded with their meanings and 17 children to determine if they could understand the Global CAQ after listening. Results Convergences and discrepancies between the original instrument in Swedish, the English version and the Brazilian translation were compared. The process of culturally adapting the CAQ to Brazilian Portuguese was validated, as demonstrated by a satisfactory S‐CVI (0.94) among professionals and an agreement of 95% and above by children.

238. Quality of Care Indicators for Hospital Physical Therapy Units: A Systematic Review

Abstract

Objective. The purpose of this review was to identify quality indicators described in the literature that may be used as quality measures in hospital physical therapy units. Methods. The following sources were searched for quality indicators or articles: Web of Science, MEDLINE, IBECS, Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature, Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health, Academic Search Complete, SportDiscus, SciELO, PsychINFO, Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas, and Scopus databases; the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, National Health System Indicator Portal, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development websites; and the National Quality Forum's measures inventory tool. Search terms included "quality indicator," "quality measure," "physiotherapy," and "physical therapy." Inclusion criteria were articles written in English, Spanish, French, or Portuguese aimed at measuring the quality of care in hospital physical therapy units. Evidence-based indicators with an explicit formula were extracted by 2 independent reviewers and then classified using the structure-process-outcome model, quality domain, and categories defined by a consensus method. Results. Of the 176 articles identified, only 19 met the criteria. From these articles and from the indicator repository searches, 178 clinical care indicators were included in the qualitative synthesis and presented in this paper. Process and outcome measures were prevalent, and 5 out of the 6 quality domains were represented. No efficiency measures were identified. Moreover, structure indicators, equity and accessibility indicators, and indicators in the cardiovascular and circulatory, mental health, pediatrics, and intensive care categories were underrepresented. Conclusions. A broad selection of quality indicators was identified from international resources, which can be used to measure the quality of physical therapy care in hospital units. Impact. This review identified 178 quality of care indicators that can be used in clinical practice monitoring and quality improvement of hospital physical therapy units. The results highlight a lack of accessibility, equity, and efficiency measures for physical therapy units. Abstract

Objective: To develop an international consensus statement to advise on designing, delivering and evaluating sport-based interventions (SBIs) aimed at promoting social, psychological and physical well-being in prison. Design: Modified Delphi using two rounds of survey questionnaires and two consensus workshops. Participants: A multidisciplinary panel of more than 40 experts from 15 international jurisdictions was formed, including representation from the following groups and stakeholders: professionals working in the justice system; officials from sport federations and organisations; academics with research experience of prisons, secure forensic mental health settings and SBIs; and policy-makers in criminal justice and sport. Results: A core research team and advisory board developed the initial rationale, statement and survey. This survey produced qualitative data which was analysed thematically. The findings were presented at an in-person workshop. Panellists discussed the findings, and, using a modified nominal group technique, reached a consensus on objectives to be included in a revised statement. The core research team and advisory board revised the statement and recirculated it with a second survey. Findings from the second survey were discussed at a second, virtual, workshop. The core research team and advisory board further revised the consensus statement and recirculated it asking panellists for further comments. This iterative process resulted in seven final statement items; all participants have confirmed that they agreed with the content, objectives and recommendations of the final statement. Conclusions: The statement can be used to assist those that design, deliver and evaluate SBIs by providing guidance on: (1) minimum levels of competence for those designing and delivering SBIs; (2) the design and delivery of inclusive programmes prioritising disadvantaged groups; and (3) evaluation measures which are carefully calibrated both to capture proposed pr

Abstract

The building sector plays an important role in energy performance and energy poverty. Decarbonization policies aims to reducing the energy consumption of the built environment, especially using HVAC systems better. Some studies have adopted adaptive thermal comfort models to increase energy savings in winter and summer. However, applying models based on international standards could overestimate setpoint temperatures. This study therefore assesses the potential energy savings by using regional models and quantifies variations with the model of ASHRAE 55–2017. A total of 7 countries and 13 regional models were considered adopting two adaptive strategies: natural ventilation and mixed mode. The results showed that the applicability of a model is not determinant to assess the possible energy saving. Likewise, cooling demand was significantly saved by both regional models and the model of ASHRAE 55 in the warmest countries. Abstract

We present a modelling approach for diffusion in a complex medium characterized by a random length scale. The resulting stochastic process shows subdiffusion with a behavior in qualitative agreement with single particle tracking experiments in living cells, such as ergodicity breaking, p-variation and aging. In particular, this approach recapitulates characteristic features previously described in part by the fractional Brownian motion and in part by the continuous-time random walk. 246. Me, Osteogenesis Imperfecta, and My Classmates in Physical Education Lessons: A Case Study of Embodied Pedagogy in Action

Abstract

Pupils with disabilities have been found to experience a narrower physical education curriculum and participate less frequently than pupils without disabilities. A lack of knowledge, skills, relevant experiences and confidence amongst physical education (PE) teachers has been said to contribute to these differential educational experiences. This article adds to the paucity of research that analyses the PE experiences of pupils with disabilities while, at the same time, evaluating embodied pedagogy as a tool for better preparing PE teachers for their role as inclusive educators. Specifically, the article aims to: (1) explore the PE experiences of a university student named Violeta who lives with the condition of Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI); (2) analyse the views of a group of prospective teachers who participated in a PE lesson (Experience 1) which included Violeta; and (3) examine the perceptions of a group of prospective teachers who participated in a simulated attempt at embodied pedagogy (Experience 2). Data were gathered using field notes, observations and interviews with Violeta and the prospective teachers who participated in Experience 1 and Experience 2. The findings suggest that in both Experience 1 and 2, the prospective teachers developed a greater aware of OI and a more positive attitude towards inclusive PE. That said, the nature of the student learning experience and their ability to empathetically imagine themselves in, and through, the bodies of others that were different from themselves varied significantly in Experience 1 and 2. Such a contrast, especially in relation to notions of alterity, related to the presence or absence of the other as a corporeal entity involved in the lessons. Neither Experience 1 or 2 was found to be 'better' than the other, they simply provided different contexts, resources and opportunities for learning to take place. We discuss some implications of these differences for those wishing to engage in embodied forms of pedagogy as a way of helping prospective teachers to have the knowledge, skills and experience to develop a more inclusive culture in school PE.

Abstract

Neutral theories have played a crucial and revolutionary role in fields such as population genetics and biogeography. These theories are critical by definition, in the sense that the overall growth rate of each single allele/species/type vanishes. Thus each species in a neutral model sits at the edge between invasion and extinction, allowing for the coexistence of symmetric/neutral types. However, in finite systems, mono-dominated states are ineludibly reached in relatively short times owing to demographic fluctuations, thus leaving us with an unsatisfactory framework to rationalize empirically-observed long-term coexistence. Here, we scrutinize the effect of heterogeneity in quasi-neutral theories, in which there can be a local mild preference for some of the competing species at some sites, even if the overall species symmetry is maintained. As we show here, mild biases at a small fraction of locations suffice to induce overall robust and durable species coexistence, even in regions arbitrarily far apart from the biased locations. This result stems from the long-range nature of the underlying critical bulk dynamics and has a number of implications, for example, in conservation ecology as it suggests that constructing local specific "sanctuaries" for different competing species can result in global enhancement of biodiversity, even in regions arbitrarily distant from the protected refuges., Comment: Accepted for publication in Journal of Statistical Mechanics: Theory and Experiment
