Etiological factors involved in myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) include immunologic, oxidative stress and inflammatory factors, among others, and these are targets for microRNAs (miRNs). Here, we evaluated whether some miRNs may affect tumor development comparing untreated and 5-azacitidine (5-AZA) MDS-treated patients. Peripheral blood samples were collected from 20 controls and 24 MDS patients, and selected miRNs related to redox balance and inflammation (inflamma-miRs), including miR-18a, miR-21, miR-34a and miR-146a, were isolated and measured by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRTPCR). A differential expression profile of miRNs was detected in untreated MDS patients and the 5-AZA group. Inflammation increases miRNs and, specifically, miR-18a, miR-21 and miR-34a were significantly overexpressed in untreated MDS, compared to controls. However, we did not observe any miRN profile alteration during the progression of the disease. On the other hand, 5-AZA treatment tends to restore miRN expression levels. Relating to prognostic risk factors, high-risk MDS groups (high Revised International Prognostic Scoring System (IPSS-R), high cytogenetic risk, high molecular risk (HMR) mutations) tended to be related with higher expression levels of miR-18a and miR-34a. Higher miRN expression is correlated with lower glutathione peroxidase activity, while they are related with a higher profile of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-2, IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α). Although our study was limited by the low number of MDS patients included, we identified miRN deregulation involved in MDS development that could regulate redox sensors and inflammatory responses. Increased fructose consumption and chronic stress, the major characteristics of modern lifestyle, impact human health; however, the consequences of their combination on the uterus remain understudied. In this study, we investigated contractile activity, morphology, and intracellular activity of antioxidant enzymes in uteri from virgin Wistar rats subjected to liquid fructose supplementation and/or unpredictable stress over 9 weeks. Contractile activity and uterine response to oxytocin or adrenaline were examined ex vivo using isolated bath chambers. Fructose supplementation, irrespective of stress, affected uterine morphology by increasing endometrium while decreasing myometrium volume density, attenuated uterine response to increasing doses of oxytocin, and increased glutathione peroxidase activity. Stress, irrespective of fructose, attenuated dose-dependent adrenaline-induced uterine relaxation. Stress, when applied solely, decreased mitochondrial superoxide dismutase activity. In the combined treatment, irregular estrous cycles and both reduced response to oxytocin and to adrenaline (as a consequence of fructose consumption and exposure to stress), along with fructose-related alteration of uterine morphology, were detected. In conclusion, fructose and stress affect uterine contractile activity, irrespective of each other, by inducing completely distinct responses in isolated uteri. In the combined treatment, the effects of both factors were evident, suggesting that the combination exerts more detrimental effects on the uterus than each factor individually. Our study aimed to investigate the role of ferroptosis in sevoflurane-induced hearing impairment and explore the mechanism of the microRNA-182-5p (miR-182-5p)/Glutathione Peroxidase 4 (GPX4) pathway in sevoflurane-induced ototoxicity. Immunofluorescence staining was performed using myosin 7a and CtBP2. Cell viability was assessed using the CCK-8 kit. Fe2+ concentration was measured using FerroOrange and Mi-to-FerroGreen fluorescent probes. The lipid peroxide level was assessed using BODIPY 581/591 C11 and MitoSOX fluorescent probes. The auditory brainstem response (ABR) test was conducted to evaluate the hearing status. Bioinformatics tools and dual luciferase gene reporter analysis were used to confirm the direct targeting of miR-182-5p on GPX4 mRNA. GPX4 and miR-182-5p expression in cells was assessed by qRT-PCR and Western blot. Ferrostatin-1 (Fer-1) pretreatment significantly improved hearing impairment and damage to ribbon synapses in mice caused by sevoflurane exposure. Immunofluorescence staining revealed that Fer-1 pretreatment reduced intracellular and mitochondrial iron overload, as well as lipid peroxide accumulation. Our findings indicated that miR-182-5p was upregulated in sevoflurane-exposed HEI-OC1 cells, and miR-182-5p regulated GPX4 expression by binding to the 3′UTR of GPX4 mRNA. The inhibition of miR-182-5p attenuated sevoflurane-induced iron overload and lipid peroxide accumulation. One prominent aspect of Parkinson's disease (PD) is the presence of elevated levels of free radicals, including reactive oxygen species (ROS). Syagrus coronata (S. coronata), a palm tree, exhibits antioxidant activity attributed to its phytochemical composition, containing fatty acids, polyphenols, and flavonoids. The aim of this investigation was to examine the potential neuroprotective effects of S. coronata fixed oil against rotenone-induced toxicity using Drosophila melanogaster. Young Drosophila specimens (3–4 d old) were exposed to a diet supplemented with rotenone (50 µM) for 7 d with and without the inclusion of S. coronata fixed oil (0.2 mg/g diet). Data demonstrated that rotenone exposure resulted in significant locomotor impairment and increased mortality rates in flies. Further, rotenone administration reduced total thiol levels but elevated lipid peroxidation, iron (Fe) levels, and nitric oxide (NO) levels while decreasing the reduced capacity of mitochondria. Concomitant administration of S. coronata exhibited a protective effect against rotenone, as evidenced by a return to control levels of Fe, NO, and total thiols, lowered lipid peroxidation levels, reversed locomotor impairment, and enhanced % cell viability. Molecular docking of the oil lipidic components with antioxidant enzymes showed strong binding affinity to superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPX1) enzymes. Objective : To explore the dose-response relationship between γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), markers of oxidative stress and the risk of dyslipidemia, so as to provide reference for prevention and improvement of dyslipidemia. Methods : A total of 149 patients with dyslipidemia hospitalized in a Grade A hospital in Haikou City from August 2022 to August 2023 were selected as the case group, and 236 patients with normal blood lipids were selected as the control group. The basic information of the research objects was collected by questionnaire. Serum GABA level, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity and malondialdehyde (MDA) level were measured by the kit. GABA and oxidative stress markers (SOD, GSH-Px, MDA) were divided into four groups according to the quartile levels of the control group from low to high (Q1 group to Q4 group). Logistic regression was used to analyze the risk of dyslipidemia. Spearman correlation coefficient, generalized linear model and restricted cubic spline were used to analyze the correlation between GABA and oxidative stress markers, and the dose-response relationship between GABA and oxidative stress markers and dyslipidemia. Results: After adjusting for confounding factors, Logistic regression showed that compared with the SOD activity, GSH-Px activity and MDA level in group Q1, the risk of dyslipidemia in the Q4 group was 0R=0.537[95%(,7(0.294--0.980) ], 0R=0.400[95%(,7(0.213--0.750)] and OR=2.375 [95%(7(1.254--4.495) ], respectively. GABA levels were positively correlated with SOD and GSH-Px activities, and negatively correlated with MDA levels (all P<0.001). The generalized linear model and restricted cubic spline showed that the risk of dyslipidemia decreased with the increase of SOD and GSH-Px activities, and increased with the increase of MDA levels, which was a linear dose-response relationship (all P<0.05). Conclusion: GABA level was correlated with SOD activity, GSH-Px activity and MDA level. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of an egg white hydrolysate (EWH) to protect white adipose tissue damage from cardiometabolic changes induced by severe hypertension. Male Wistar rats were uninephrectomised and divided: SHAM (weekly subcutaneous vehicle (mineral oil + propylene glycol, 1:1)), SHAM + EWH (subcutaneous vehicle plus EWH via gavage, 1 g/kg per day), DOCA (deoxycorticosterone acetate diluted in vehicle subcutaneously weekly in subsequent doses of 20 mg/kg -1st week, 12 mg/kg - 2–3th week, and 6 mg/kg -4–8th week, respectively, plus 1 % NaCl and 0·2 % KCl in drinking water), and DOCA + EWH. Body weight gain, food and water intake, glucose and lipid metabolism were evaluated. Oxidative stress was assessed by biochemical assay and immunofluorescence for NOX-1, nuclear factor kappa B (NFκB), and caspase-3 in retroperitoneal white adipose tissue (rtWAT). Proinflammatory cytokines (IL-6 and 1β), CD163+ macrophage infiltration, and immunohistochemistry for TNFα and uncoupling protein-1 were evaluated, as well as histological analysis on rtWAT. Glutathione peroxidase and reductase were also determined in plasma. EWH showed hypocholesterolemic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic properties in the arterial hypertension DOCA-salt model. The results demonstrated the presence of functional changes in adipose tissue function by a decrease in macrophage infiltration and in the fluorescence intensity of NFκB, NOX-1, and caspase-3. A reduction of proinflammatory cytokines and restoration of antioxidant enzymatic activity and mitochondrial oxidative damage by reducing uncoupling protein-1 fluorescence intensity were also observed. Triclosan (TCS), an antimicrobial additive in various personal and health care products, has been widely detected in aquatic environment around the world. The present study investigated the impacts of TCS in the gills of the fish, Cyprinus carpio employing histopathological, biochemical, molecular docking and simulation analysis. The 96 h LC50 value of TCS in C. carpio was found to be 0.968 mg/L. Fish were exposed to 1/1000th (1 µg/L), 1/100th (10 µg/L), and 1/10th (100 µg/L) of 96 h LC50 value for a period of 28 days. The histopathological alterations observed in the gills were hypertrophy, hyperplasia, edematous swellings, and fusion of secondary lamellae in TCS exposed groups. The severity of these alterations increased with both the concentration as well as the duration of exposure. The present study revealed that the activity of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione-S-transferase, glutathione reductase, glutathione peroxidase, and reduced glutathione content decreased significantly (p < 0.05) in both concentration and duration dependent manner. However, a significant (p < 0.05) increase in the activity of the metabolic enzymes such as acid phosphatase and alkaline phosphatase was observed in all three exposure concentrations of TCS from 7 to 28 days. The activity of acetylcholinesterase declined significantly (p < 0.05) from 7 to 28 days whereas the content of acetylcholine increased significantly at the end of 28 day. The experimental results were further confirmed by molecular docking and simulation analysis that showed strong binding of TCS with acetylcholinesterase enzyme. Background: The climatic changes crossing the world menace the green life through limitation of water availability. The goal of this study was to determine whether Moringa oleifera Lam. trees cultivated under Tunisian arid climate, retain their tolerance ability to tolerate accentuated environmental stress factors such as drought and salinity. For this reason, the seeds of M. oleifera tree planted in Bouhedma Park (Tunisian arid area), were collected, germinated, and grown in the research area at the National Institute of Research in Rural Engineering, Waters and Forests (INRGREF) of Tunis (Tunisia). The three years aged trees were exposed to four water-holding capacities (25, 50, 75, and 100%) for 60 days to realise this work. Results: Growth change was traduced by the reduction of several biometric parameters and fluorescence (Fv/Fm) under severe water restriction (25 and 50%). Whereas roots presented miraculous development in length face to the decrease of water availability (25 and 50%) in their rhizospheres. The sensitivity to drought-induced membrane damage (Malondialdehyde (MDA) content) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) liberation (hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) content) was highly correlated with ROS antiradical scavenging (ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and (2, 2'-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyle (DPPH)), phenolic components and osmolytes accumulation. The drought stress tolerance of M. oleifera trees was associated with a dramatic stimulation of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione reductase (GR), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), and glutathione peroxidase (GPX) activities. Reducing the levels of dietary protein is an effective nutritional approach in lowering feed cost and nitrogen emissions in ruminants. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of dietary Lys/Met ratio in a low protein diet (10%, dry matter basis) on the growth performance and hepatic function (antioxidant capacity, immune status, and glycolytic activity) in Tibetan lambs. Ninety two-month-old rams with an average weight of 15.37 ± 0.92 kg were randomly assigned to LP-L (dietary Lys/Met = 1:1), LP-M (dietary Lys/Met = 2:1) and LP-H (dietary Lys/Met = 3:1) treatments. The trial was conducted over 100 d, including 10 d of adaption to the diets. Hepatic phenotypes, antioxidant capacity, immune status, glycolytic activity and gene expression profiling was detected after the conclusion of the feeding trials. The results showed that the body weight was higher in the LP-L group when compared to those on the LP-M group (P < 0.05). In addition, the activities of the catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in the LP-L group were significantly increased compared with the LP-M group (P < 0.05), while the malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in LP-H group were significantly decreased (P < 0.05). Compared with LP-H group, both hepatic glycogen (P < 0.01) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) (P < 0.05) were significantly elevated in LP-L group. For the LP-L group, the hepatocytes were arranged radially with the central vein in the center, and hepatic plates exhibited tight arrangement. Transcriptome analysis identified 29, 179, and 129 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between the LP-M vs. LP-L, LP-H vs. LP-M, and LP-H vs. LP-L groups, respectively (Q-values < 0.05 and |log2Fold Change| > 1). Gene Ontology (GO) and correlation analyses showed that in the LP-L group, core genes (C1QA and JUNB) enriched in oxidoreductase activity were positively correlated with antioxidant indicators, while the MYO9A core gene enriched in the immune response was positively associated with immune indicators, and core genes enriched in molecular function (PDK3 and PDP2) were positively correlated with glycolysis indicators. In summary, low-protein diet with a low Lys/Met ratio (1:1) could reduce the hepatic oxidative stress and improve the glycolytic activity by regulating the expression of related genes of Tibetan sheep. Antioxidant properties of medicinal plants have a very important role in different inflammatory and oxidative stress-related diseases. Superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and glutathione reductase (GR) are anti-oxidative enzymes and constitute a very important antioxidant defense against oxidative stress. The purpose of the present study was to elucidate how polyphenolic compounds, specifically chlorogenic acid, rosmarinic acid, and quercetol, present in Acanthus balcanicus, Carduus acanthoides, Tamarix ramosissima, Tragopogon pratensis, and Vaccinium myrtillus, interacts with antioxidant enzymes. This research sought to bridge the gap between theoretical predictions and empirical evidence, providing a comprehensive understanding of the antioxidant capabilities of these polyphenols in the context of diabetes-induced oxidative stress. The interaction between antioxidant enzymes and polyphenols was carried out by using Autodock 4.2 software and SIBIOLEAD software. The results show that all polyphenols owned potent antioxidant capacity and can activate SOD, GPx, and GR, the strongest antioxidant activity being attributed to quercetol, followed by chlorogenic acid and rosmarinic acid. In this study, effect of different stocking densities on growth, oxidative stress, antioxidant enzymes, and hematological and immunological values in European catfish (Silurus glanis) was examined. The control (0.06 kg fish/L) and trial (T) 1 (0.08 kg fish/L), T2 (0.10 kg fish/L), and T3 (0.12 kg fish/L) stocking groups were used. Each stocking group with three replicates was carried out in a tank at 22 ± 2 °C water temperature. The fish were fed three times daily for 60 days. The highest final weight (123.3–171.6 g), weight gain (84.13–159.6%), specific growth rate (1.40–2.66%), feed intake (138.5–178.2 g/fish), and feed conversion rate (1.12–1.65%) were provided from the control and T1 stockfish (p > 0.05), followed by the T2 and T3 stockfish (p < 0.05), respectively. The lowest oxidant level and the highest reduced glutathione level and superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase activities were obtained from the control fish, followed by the T1, T2, and T3 stockfish, respectively (p < 0.05). In addition, parallel to the increase in stocking density, the erythrocyte count, hematocrit, hemoglobin, erythrocyte volume, corpuscular hemoglobin, and corpuscular hemoglobin concentration values of fish increased (p < 0.05), but the leukocyte count, nitroblue tetrazolium activity, total protein, and immunoglobulin-M values decreased (p < 0.05). The high stocking densities caused oxidative stress in fish, negatively affecting their health and growth and feed evaluation values. However, the stocking density could increase to 0.08 kg/L from 0.06 kg/L in the European catfish fingerling reared in the recirculating aquaculture system by maintaining the water quality and applying good care and feeding. This study investigated the dietary thiamine (vitamin B1) requirement of Pacific white shrimp (Penaeus vannamei) for optimal growth performance, feed utilization, and innate immunity. Six test diets were formulated to contain thiamine at 3.32, 20.8, 38.7, 60.2, 80.7, and 108 mg/kg of diet (designated as T0, T20, T40, T60, T80, and T100, respectively). A total of 360 shrimp (6.03 ± 0.03 g) were randomly assigned into 24 acryl tanks (240 L) to be quadruplicated per treatment, and feeding was done in six equal portions daily for 58 days. The T20 diet fed group exhibited significantly higher growth performance compared to shrimp fed T0 and T100 diets. Feed conversion ratio and protein efficiency ratio were not significantly different among experimental groups. A significantly higher phenoloxidase activity was exhibited in T20 dietary group than T0 and T100 groups. Lysozyme activity was significantly enhanced in T20, T40, T60, and T80 groups than in T0 group and antiprotease activity was not significantly affected. Antioxidant parameters: superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase activities were significantly elevated in T20 dietary treatment group. Significantly upregulated proPO gene expression was observed in T20 and T40 dietary treatment groups, although penaidine 3a and insulin-like growth factor-1 relative gene expressions were not significantly different. Glucose, total cholesterol, triglyceride, and total protein levels in hemolymph were not significantly different. Intestinal histology observations did not show significant differences in villi heights. In this study, we report the cardioprotective effect of the glycerol monooleate (GMO) based nanocurcumin in both in vitro and in vivo conditions under a hyperthyroid state. The heart is one of the primary target organs sensitive to the action of thyroid hormone, and slight variations in the thyroid hormone serum concentrations result in measurable changes in cardiac performance. Hyperthyroidism‐induced hypermetabolism is associated with oxidative stress and is an important mechanism responsible for the progression of heart failure. Curcumin has been known to play a protective role against oxidative stress‐related diseases like Alzheimer's, asthma, and aging due to its antioxidant properties. Nevertheless, its potent biological activity has been hindered due to its poor bioavailability. To overcome this drawback, a GMO‐based biodegradable nanoparticle (NP) formulation loaded with curcumin has been developed, and the protective effect of curcumin‐loaded NPs was compared against the native drug. Oxidative stress parameters like reactive oxygen species (ROS) release, change in mitochondrial membrane permeability, lipid peroxidation (LPx), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release, and the activity and protein expression of the endogenous antioxidant enzymes like superoxide dismutase, catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase were evaluated. The results from in vitro showed that curcumin‐loaded NPs showed better DPPH and NO radical scavenging activity than native curcumin in a concentrations range of 2.5–20 µM. It was also observed that the nanoparticulate curcumin was comparatively more effective than native curcumin in protecting against ROS‐induced membrane damage by reducing LPx and LDH leakage at low concentrations of 5–10 µM. Further, curcumin NPs performed better in facilitating the activities of antioxidant enzymes under in vitro and in vivo conditions with respect to time and concentrations, resulting in reduced cellular ROS levels. In this scenario, we anticipate that curcumin‐loaded NPs can serve as a better antioxidant than its native counterpart in protecting the heart from oxidative stress‐related diseases. Significance Statement: Our research presents the cardioprotective effect of glycerol monooleate (GMO) based nano‐curcumin in vitro and in vivo conditions during a hyperthyroid state. Mugil liza juveniles (6.69 ± 0.06 g) were subjected to dietary citral (0-control, 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 mL per kg feed) for 45 days, and its possible effects on zootechnical and metabolic parameters, digestive enzymes, innate immunity, oxidative status and liver damage were evaluated. At the end of the experiment, fish fed 2.0 mL citral per kg feed showed a greater weight gain and protein retention efficiency, as well as enhanced activities of pepsin (stomach) and amylase (intestine) compared with control fish. Citral supplementation decreased liver lipoperoxidation and increased the activities of glutathione peroxidase, glutathione-S-transferase and superoxide dismutase in the gills, liver and brain. The highest level of citral inclusion augmented non-protein thiol content in the brain and gills. Myeloperoxidase activity was lower in fish offered 1.0 and 2.0 mL citral per kg feed. Dietary citral did not influence the plasma levels of aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase or the hepatic histology. Nowadays, including vegetable ingredients in fish diets without growth effects is common; however, their intestinal oxidative status under these conditions is less known. Five isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets with 75% vegetable oil (VO) inclusion were formulated for juvenile gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata). As VO, one diet contained palm oil (diet P), another rapeseed oil (diet R), and the other three included linseed oil (L) combined with the above-mentioned VOs (named PL, RL and RPL diets). After 18 weeks, pyloric caeca (PC) and proximal intestine (PI) were analyzed for oxidative stress biomarkers, lipid peroxidation (LPO), and gene expression. Dietary linseed oil diminished the superoxide dismutase activity in both intestinal regions, catalase in PC and glutathione reductase in PI; rapeseed oil reduced the glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and glutathione-S-transferase activities in PC, and palm oil upregulated GPx activity in PI. The PL diet triggered LPO levels in the PI, and RPL-fed fish showed the highest levels of LPO in the PC due to lower antioxidant activities, while RL-fed fish presented the best oxidative status. The results suggest that the dietary amount of n-6 and the unsaturated/saturated fatty acids ratio are factors to be considered in aquafeed formulation, including VOs, to improve the intestinal oxidative status in fish. Reactive oxygen species (ROSs) are byproducts of normal cellular metabolism and play pivotal roles in various physiological processes. Disruptions in the balance between ROS levels and the body's antioxidant defenses can lead to the development of numerous diseases. Glutathione peroxidase 3 (GPX3), a key component of the body's antioxidant system, is an oxidoreductase enzyme. GPX3 mitigates oxidative damage by catalyzing the conversion of hydrogen peroxide into water. Beyond its antioxidant function, GPX3 is vital in regulating metabolism, modulating cell growth, inducing apoptosis and facilitating signal transduction. It also serves as a significant tumor suppressor in various cancers. Recent studies have revealed aberrant expression of GPX3 in several non-neoplastic diseases, associating it with multiple pathological processes. Simple Summary: Excessive synthesis of liver lipids can lead to various diseases, such as fatty liver disease and hyperlipidaemia. This study investigated the effects of resveratrol (Res) and (-)-Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) on lipid synthesis in liver cells. The results showed that both resveratrol and EGCG can inhibit cholesterol synthesis in liver cells by activating Adenosine 5′-monophosphate (AMP)-activated protein kinase (AMPK). Therefore, this study can provide a reference for the study of lipid metabolism. The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of Res and EGCG on cell growth, cellular antioxidant levels, and cellular lipid metabolism in hepatocytes. In this experiment, leghorn male hepatoma (LMH) cells were used as hepatocytes. The results showed that 6.25–25 μM Res and EGCG had no adverse effects on cell viability and growth. Meanwhile, with the increasing dosage of Res and EGCG, the contents of total cholesterol (TC), total glyceride (TG), and malondialdehyde (MDA) in hepatocytes decreased significantly (p < 0.05), while the contents of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD), and catalase (CAT) increased significantly (p < 0.05). In addition, western blot results showed that Res and EGCG could significantly increase the expression of p-AMPK protein and reduce the expression of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGCR) protein in hepatocytes (p < 0.05). Moreover, q-PCR results showed that with the increase in Res and EGCG, the expression of cholesterol- and fatty acid synthesis-related genes decreased significantly (p < 0.05). HemoHIM is a standardized medicinal herbal preparation consisting of extracts of Angelica gigas Nakai, Cnidium officinale Makino, and Paeonia lactiflora Pallas that possesses immune regulatory activities. This study aimed to research the potential antioxidant effects of HemoHIM and its capacity for reducing fatigue in aged mice subjected to forced exercise. After administering HemoHIM 125 (500 mg/kg orally) for 4 weeks in 8-month-old female C57BL/6 mice (4 groups of 10 mice), various parameters were evaluated. The analyses revealed that HemoHIM enhanced swimming time and grip strength. In addition, it significantly reduced serum lactate levels and increased liver glutathione peroxidase (GPx) levels after exercise challenge. The expression levels of antioxidant enzymes and factors, including nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor-2 (Nrf-2), heme oxygenase 1, superoxide dismutase, GPx, and glutathione reductase, were significantly higher in liver and muscle tissues of mice treated with HemoHIM. Obesity is a threat to public health and effective new medications are required. Platycodonis Radix (PR) is a traditional medicinal/dietary plant with activities against obesity. Using mice given a diet rich in fat, the antiobesity components of PR were identified and their molecular mechanisms were clarified further in this investigation. Initially, the impacts of PR fractions on liver histology and biochemical markers were assessed. Subsequently, the degrees of lipogenic and lipolytic gene and protein expressions were determined. Oral administration of PR polysaccharides (PG) (0.80 g/kg body weight) improved liver function (alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase) and its antioxidant activities (total superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and malondialdehyde), as well as alleviated blood lipid (total cholesterol, total triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol) values, inflammatory systemic (TNF-α and IL-1β), and histological abnormalities within the liver. Furthermore, PG administration downregulated the expression for lipogenic genes (ACC and FAS) and upregulated the expression for the lipolytic gene (PPARα, LPL, CPT1, and HSL). Importantly, PG raised AMPK phosphorylation and decreased SREBP-1c protein synthesis. Thus, it is possible that PG stimulates the AMPK-LPL/HSL path (lipolytic route) plus the AMPK-ACC/PPARα-CPT1 path (associated to β-oxidation of fatty acids), while inhibiting the AMPK/(SREBP-1c)-ACC/FAS path (lipogenic route). Chronic diseases associated with metabolism are becoming one of the most prevalent health problems in the world. Therefore, searching for foods with functional properties is a viable strategy to prevent the onset of chronic diseases. Amongst the most currently studied functional foods, the edible insects stand out, and Apis mellifera (bee) has received prominent attention due to its high nutritional value. In this context, the present study aimed to evaluate the effects of a food supplementation with A. mellifera wholemeal flour on the mice's metabolic profile with diet-induced hepatic steatosis. Six-week-old male Swiss mice were divided into 6 groups and treated for 4 weeks. The groups were identified as follows: standard diet (AIN93), standard diet + 15% A. mellifera (AIN93 + 15%), standard diet + 30% A. mellifera (AIN93 + 30%), hyperlipidic diet (HFD) HFD + 15% A. mellifera (HFD + 15%), and HFD + 30% wholemeal bee A. mellifera flour (HFD + 30%). Several parameters such as liver histology, tissue weight, and liver mRNA expression were evaluated. The main results showed that including Apis mellifera wholemeal flour reduced hepatic steatosis by improving biochemical and histological parameters. Moreover, significant changes were also observed in the expression of the lipogenic genes PPARγ, SRBP1c, and GPX4. Valproic acid is an effective treatment for generalized seizure and related neurological defects. Despite its efficacy and acceptability, its use is associated with adverse drug effects. Moringa oleifera leaves are rich in phytochemical and nutritional components. It has excellent antioxidant and ethnobotanical benefits, thus popular among folk medicines and nutraceuticals. In the present study, 70% ethanol extract of moringa leaves was assessed for its in vivo biochemical and histological effects against valproate-induced kidney damage. Female Sprague–Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups: Group I: control animals given physiological saline (n = 8); Group II: Moringa extract-administered group (0.3 g/kg b.w./day, n = 8); Group III: valproate-administered animals (0.5 g/kg b.w./day, n = 15); and Group IV: valproate + moringa extract (given similar doses of both valproate and moringa extract, n = 12) administered group. Treatments were administered orally for 15 days, the animals were fasted overnight, anesthetized, and then tissue samples harvested. In the valproate-administered experimental group, serum urea and uric acid were elevated. In the kidney tissue of the valproate rats, glutathione was depleted, antioxidant enzyme activities (superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione reductase, glutathione S-transferase, and glutathione peroxidase) disrupted, while oxidative stress biomarker, inflammatory proteins (Tumor necrosis factor-alpha and interleukin-6), histological damage scores, and the number of PCNA-positive cells were elevated. Peroxiredoxin 6 (Prdx6) repairs peroxidized membranes by reducing oxidized phospholipids, and by replacing oxidized sn-2 fatty acyl groups through hydrolysis/reacylation by its phospholipase A 2 (aiPLA 2) and lysophosphatidylcholine acyltransferase activities. Prdx6 is highly expressed in the lung, and intact lungs and cells null for Prdx6 or with single-point mutations that inactivate either Prdx6-peroxidase or aiPLA 2 activity alone exhibit decreased viability, increased lipid peroxidation, and incomplete repair when exposed to paraquat, hyperoxia, or organic peroxides. Ferroptosis is form of cell death driven by the accumulation of phospholipid hydroperoxides. We studied the role of Prdx6 as a ferroptosis suppressor in the lung. We first compared the expression Prdx6 and glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPx4) and visualized Prdx6 and GPx4 within the lung. Lung Prdx6 mRNA levels were five times higher than GPx4 levels. Both Prdx6 and GPx4 localized to epithelial and endothelial cells. Prdx6 knockout or knockdown sensitized lung endothelial cells to erastin-induced ferroptosis. Cells with genetic inactivation of either aiPLA 2 or Prdx6-peroxidase were more sensitive to ferroptosis than WT cells, but less sensitive than KO cells. We then conducted RNA-seq analyses in Prdx6-depleted cells to further explore how the loss of Prdx6 sensitizes lung endothelial cells to ferroptosis. Prdx6 KD upregulated transcriptional signatures associated with selenoamino acid metabolism and mitochondrial function. Accordingly, Prdx6 deficiency blunted mitochondrial function and increased GPx4 abundance whereas GPx4 KD had the opposite effect on Prdx6. Moreover, we detected Prdx6 and GPx4 interactions in intact cells, suggesting that both enzymes cooperate to suppress lipid peroxidation. Notably, Prdx6-depleted cells remained sensitive to erastin-induced ferroptosis despite the compensatory increase in GPx4. These results show that Prdx6 suppresses ferroptosis in lung endothelial cells and that both aiPLA 2 and Prdx6-peroxidase contribute to this effect. Sjogren's syndrome (SS) is an autoimmune disease characterized by dysfunction of exocrine glands, such as salivary glands. However, the molecular mechanism of salivary secretion dysfunction in SS is still unclear. Given the significance of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) in cellular redox homeostasis, we hypothesized that dysregulation of GPX4 may play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of salivary secretion dysfunction observed in SS. The salivary gland of SS patients and the SS mouse model exhibited reduced expression of the ferroptosis inhibitor GPX4 and the important protein aquaporin 5 (AQP5), which is involved in salivary secretion. GPX4 overexpression upregulated and GPX4 knockdown downregulated AQP5 expression in salivary gland epithelial cells (SGECs) and salivary secretion. Bioinformatics analysis of GSE databases from SS patients' salivary glands revealed STAT4 as a key intermediary regulator between GPX4 and AQP5. A higher level of nuclear pSTAT4 was observed in the salivary gland of the SS mouse model. GPX4 overexpression inhibited and GPX4 knockdown promoted STAT4 phosphorylation and nuclear translocation in SGECs. CHIP assay confirmed the binding of pSTAT4 within the promoter of AQP5 inhibiting AQP5 transcription. GPX4 downregulation accumulates intracellular lipid ROS in SGECs. Lipid ROS inhibitor ferrostatin-1 treatment during in vitro and in vivo studies confirmed that lipid ROS activates STAT4 phosphorylation and nuclear translocation in SGECs. In summary, the downregulated GPX4 in SGECs contributes to salivary secretion dysfunction in SS via the lipid ROS/pSTAT4/AQP5 axis. This study unraveled novel targets to revitalize the salivary secretion function in SS patients. Among patients with Sjogren's syndrome, inflammation stimulates the system Xc− - GSH axis in salivary gland epithelial cells, leading to the subsequent downregulation of GPX4. Consequently, the diminished capacity of GPX4 to clear lipid reactive oxygen species (ROS) from cells results in cell death and subsequent dysfunction in salivary secretion. Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized by oxidative stress and neuroinflammation as key pathological features. Emerging evidence suggests that nuclear factor erythroid 2 related factor 2-antioxidant response element (Nrf2-ARE), phosphatidylinositol 3‑kinase-protein kinase B (PI3K-Akt), c-Jun N-terminal kinase-extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (JNK-ERK1/2), and toll-like receptor 4/nuclear factor-kappa B (TLR4/NF-kB) pathways play pivotal roles in PD pathogenesis. Orientin, a phenolic phytoconstituent, has demonstrated modulatory potential on these pathways in various experimental conditions other than PD. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the neuroprotective effects of Orientin against rotenone-induced neurodegeneration in SH-SY5Y cell lines and the Swiss albino mice model of PD. Orientin was administered at doses 10 and 20 µM in cell lines and 10 and 20 mg/kg in mice, and its effects on rotenone-induced neurodegeneration were investigated. Oxidative stress markers including mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm), reactive oxygen species (ROS), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx), as well as inflammatory markers including interleukin-1β (IL-1β), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), were measured. The expression levels of genes related to Nrf2-ARE (Nrf2), PI3K/Akt (Akt), JNK-ERK1/2 (TNF-α), and TLR4/NF-kB (TNF-α) pathways were measured to understand the modulatory effect of Orientin on these pathways. Additionally, behavioral studies assessing locomotor activity, muscle coordination, and muscle rigidity were conducted with mice. Our results indicate that Orientin dose-dependently attenuated rotenone-induced changes in oxidative stress markers, inflammatory markers, gene expression levels, and behavioral parameters. Two cassava clones contrasting for their drought tolerance capacity (8S501- drought tolerant and H97-drought sensitive) were selected and grown in the field for studying the agronomical and molecular changes in both the clones under drought stress conditions. A reduction in the number of tuberous roots per plant, tuberous root length, average single tuber weight and tuber yield per plant was observed under drought stress when compared with the control conditions and also significantly lower mean values were observed for the sensitive clone H97 than that of the tolerant clone 8S501 when measured at 60 days of stress. Transcriptome sequencing of the tuber tissues of the two clones was done at 60 days of imposing drought stress. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most malignant cancer worldwide. Sorafenib (SRF) is a common therapeutic drug used for patients with advanced HCC. Nevertheless, drug resistance frequently occurs in patients treated with sorafenib. Glycyrrhizic acid (GRA) is a natural compound that is identified to exhibit anti-cancer effects. In this work, we aimed to investigate the effects of GRA on SRF-resistant HCC cells and the potential regulatory mechanisms. We established SRF-resistant HCC cell lines and administrated GRA treatment. We performed CCK-8 and colony formation experiments to detect cell proliferation. The accumulation of lipid reactive oxygen species (ROS) and iron levels were measured to evaluate ferroptosis. The protein levels of ferroptosis suppressor glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) and SLC7A11, and the activation of AKT and mTOR were measured with western blotting assay. GRA treatment notably suppressed the viability and proliferation of SRF-resistant HCC cells. SRF-resistant HCC cells exhibited repressed ferroptosis level activated AKT/mTOR cascade, and GRA treatment reversed these effects. Inhibition of ferroptosis and activation of mTOR reversed the anti-proliferation effects of GRA on SRF-resistant HCC cells. Background and Aim: Artemisia annua (AA), used as a growth promoter in poultry, lowers feed costs and enhances economic efficiency. This study aimed to assess the impact of varying AA concentrations on broiler chicken growth, gene expression, and profitability. Materials and Methods: Two hundred 1-day-old male Cobb chicks were randomly allocated into four treatment groups, each containing five replicates and 10 birds. The experimental groups consisted of G1 (basal diet), G2 (basal diet with 0.3% AA), G3 (basal diet with 0.6% AA), and G4 (basal diet with 0.9% AA). The birds had continuous access to feed and water throughout the study. The experiment lasted for 42 days. We measured the growth performance (Feed intake, Life weight), carcass traits (weight after slaughter, dressed carcass, heart, gizzard, spleen, giblet and thymus weight), liver and spleen antioxidants (CAT, GSH, SOD), and gene expression of anti-inflammatory and immune-related genes. Results: The primary findings revealed that the addition of 0.6% AA had a positive impact (p < 0.05) on all investigated variables compared with the control and other groups. Dietary supplementation with 0.6% AA led to increased breast, giblet, skeleton, and total yield, and net return compared with the control group. Supplementation with AA exhibited antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immunological effects through improved levels of antioxidant superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in tissue homogenates of the liver and spleen. It also upregulated the relative messenger RNA levels of anti-inflammatory interleukin (IL)-10, SOD, CAT, and GSH-Px, whereas IL-1β and tumor necrosis factor-alpha were downregulated. Conclusion: The study found that AA is a promising replacement for antibiotics in poultry farming as a growth promoter for chickens. 0.6% AA in the broiler diet yielded the best results, striking a balance between superior performance and robust economic benefits. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a significant global health burden that necessitates the exploration of effective and accessible therapeutic options. Phytotherapy has played a vital role in healthcare, with plant extracts being integral to traditional medicinal practices. The therapeutic potential of Hibiscus syriacus (Rose of Sharon), a plant with a rich ethnobotanical history, in the management of DM and its associated complications was investigated. In this study, the therapeutic potential of Hibiscus syriacus L. extract (HSE) against DM in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats was assessed, focusing on its effects on glucose regulation, antioxidative defense, and liver protection. The administration of the HSE extract substantially reduced hyperglycemia and increased insulin production, with concurrent improvements in body weight and hydration. The enhanced activity of antioxidant enzymes, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), suggests reduced oxidative stress, which is further supported by molecular docking results with the 3GTV superoxide dismutase enzyme, showing a binding energy of −6.3 kcal/mol. A decrease in MDA levels also indicates a reduction in oxidative stress. Notably, HSE treatment led to decreased aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels and improved lipid profiles, indicating its hepatoprotective and lipid-modifying benefits. The psychedelic beverage ayahuasca is originally obtained by Banisteriopsis caapi (B. caapi) (BC) and Psychotria viridis (P. viridis) (PV). However, sometimes these plant species are replaced by others that mimic the original effects, such as Mimosa hostilis (M. hostilis) (MH) and Peganum harmala (P. harmala) (PH). Its worldwide consumption and the number of studies on its potential therapeutic effects has increased. This study aimed to evaluate the anticancer properties of ayahuasca in human colorectal adenocarcinoma cells. Thus, the maximum inhibitory concentration (IC50) of decoctions of MH, PH, and a mixture of these (MHPH) was determined. The activities of caspases 3 and 9 were evaluated, and the cell proliferation index was determined through immunocytochemical analysis (Ki-67). Two fluorescent probes were used to evaluate the production of oxidative stress and the activity of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) was also evaluated. It was demonstrated that exposure to the extracts significantly induced apoptosis in Caco-2 cells, while decreasing cell proliferation. MH and MHPH samples significantly reduced oxidative stress and significantly increased glutathione peroxidase activity. No significant differences were found in SOD activity. The purpose of this paper was to investigate the anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenic activities of sulfated polysaccharide from C. tomentosum (PCT) using carrageenan (CARR)-induced paw edema in a rat model and anti-vasculogenic activity on a chorioallantoic membrane assay (CAM) model. Based on in vitro tests of anti-radical, total antioxidant, and reducing power activities, PCT presents a real interest via its antioxidant activity and ability to scavenge radical species. The in vivo pharmacological tests suggest that PCT possesses anti-inflammatory action by reducing paw edema and leukocyte migration, maintaining the redox equilibrium, and stabilizing the cellular level of several pro-/antioxidant system markers. It could significantly decrease the malondialdehyde levels and increase superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and glutathione activities in local paw edema and erythrocytes during the acute inflammatory reaction of CARR. PCT pretreatment was effective against DNA alterations in the blood lymphocytes of inflamed rats and reduced the hematological alteration by restoring blood parameters to normal levels. The anti-angiogenic activity results revealed that CAM neovascularization, defined as the formation of new vessel numbers and branching patterns, was decreased by PCT in a dose-dependent manner, which supported the in silico bioavailability and pharmacokinetic findings. Oxidative stress contributes to heat stress (HS)-mediated alterations in skeletal muscle; however, the extent to which biological sex mediates oxidative stress during HS remains unknown. We hypothesized muscle from males would be more resistant to oxidative stress caused by HS than muscle from females. To address this, male and female pigs were housed in thermoneutral conditions (TN; 20.8 ± 1.6°C; 62.0 ± 4.7% relative humidity; n = 8/sex) or subjected to HS (39.4 ± 0.6°C; 33.7 ± 6.3% relative humidity) for 1 (HS1; n = 8/sex) or 7 days (HS7; n = 8/sex) followed by collection of the oxidative portion of the semitendinosus. Although HS increased muscle temperature, by 7 days, muscle from heat-stressed females was cooler than muscle from heat-stressed males (0.3°C; P < 0.05). Relative protein abundance of 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE)-modified proteins increased in HS1 females compared with TN (P = 0.05). Furthermore, malondialdehyde (MDA)-modified proteins and 8-hydroxy-20-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) concentration, a DNA damage marker, was increased in HS7 females compared with TN females (P = 0.05). Enzymatic activities of catalase and superoxide dismutase (SOD) remained similar between groups; however, glutathione peroxidase (GPX) activity decreased in HS7 females compared with TN and HS1 females (P = 0.03) and HS7 males (P = 0.02). Notably, HS increased skeletal muscle Ca2þ deposition (P = 0.05) and was greater in HS1 females compared with TN females (P < 0.05). Heat stress increased sarco(endo)plasmic reticulum Ca2þ ATPase (SERCA)2a protein abundance (P < 0.01); however, Ca2þ ATPase activity remained similar between groups. Overall, despite having lower muscle temperature, muscle from heat-stressed females had increased markers of oxidative stress and calcium deposition than muscle from males following identical environmental exposure. We demonstrated that following 7 days of heat stress, skeletal muscle from females was more susceptible to oxidative stress than muscle from males in a porcine model, despite cooler muscle temperatures. Copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) are extensively used in electronics, cosmetics, fungicides, and various other fields due to their distinctive qualities. However, this widespread usage can contribute to environmental contamination and heightened health risks for living organisms. Despite their prevalent use, the ecological impacts and biosafety of CuNPs remain inadequately understood. The present study aims to delve into the potential toxic effects of CuNPs on zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos, focusing on multiple indexes such as embryonic development, neurotoxicity, oxidative stress, and inflammatory response. The results revealed a notable increase in the death rate and deformity rate, alongside varying degrees of decrease in hatching rate and heart rate following CuNPs exposure. Particularly, the frequency of spontaneous tail coiling significantly declined under exposure to CuNPs at concentrations of 500 µg/L. Furthermore, CuNPs exposure induced alterations in the transcriptional expression of GABA signaling pathway-related genes (gabra1, gad, abat, and gat1), indicating potential impacts on GABA synthesis, release, catabolism, recovery, and receptor binding. Additionally, CuNPs triggered oxidative stress, evidenced by disruption in superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activities, along with elevated malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. This oxidative stress subsequently led to a proinflammatory cascade, as demonstrated by the increased transcriptional expression of inflammatory markers (il-1β, tnf-α, il-6, and il-8). Comparative analysis with copper ion (provided as CuCl2) exposure highlighted more significant changes in most indexes with CuCl2, indicating greater toxicity compared to CuNPs at equivalent concentrations. In conclusion, these findings provide valuable insights into the toxic effects of CuNPs on zebrafish embryo development and neurotransmitter conduction. Global warming has become an undeniable fact, and the frequent occurrence of extremely hot weather is a serious challenge to the survival of animals. As one of the most active components of the ecosystem, birds are sensitive to the constant changes in the climate and environment. To investigate the physiological responses of Eurasian tree sparrows (Passer montanus) to acute heat stress, various thermogenic parameters of the birds, which included resting metabolic rate (RMR), body mass, body temperature, water intake, and liver cellular metabolic capacity, were measured after exposure to 42°C for different times. The antioxidant response of Eurasian tree sparrows to heat stress was investigated by measuring the lipid oxidation indexes and related antioxidant oxidase activities in the serum and liver. Body temperature and water intake were significantly increased after 2 h of heat stress and lasted until the end of the heat stress (12 h). In contrast, RMR was significantly decreased after 2 h of heat stress. At the cellular level, liver COX activity was significantly increased during heat stress from 2 h to 6 h. Additionally, there was a significant increase in MDA content and superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activity levels in the serum. The glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX) activity in the liver was significantly decreased after 2 h of heat stress. Our results indicated that heat production decreased while heat dissipation increased in Eurasian tree sparrows exposed to acute heat stress. At the same time, the internal antioxidant defense system of the birds was activated to counteract the damage caused by high temperatures. Therefore, it was reasonable to speculate that Eurasian tree sparrows might be resistant to high temperatures to the extent that they can maintain normal life activities through the regulation of thermogenic and antioxidant systems under acute heat stress. Background: Food coloring agents used in food remain controversial because many adverse effects are encountered. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to investigate whether curcumin has potential protection against oxidative stress, organ damage, and genotoxic effects induced by different doses of tartrazine, a synthetic food coloring agent, in male rats. Experimental procedure: Six groups were established as follows: Group 1 represented the control. Groups 2 and 3 were given tartrazine orally, with a daily dosage of 10 and 20 mg/kg b.w., respectively. Group 4 was given orally a daily dose of 50 mg curcumin/kg b.wt. Groups 5 and 6 were orally given daily doses of 10 and 20 mg/kg tartrazine and cotreated with 50 mg/kg curcumin, respectively. Results: The administration of low and high dose tartrazine for 30 and 60 days significantly increased the following parameters in proportion to the dose and time of exposure: body weight; levels of AST, ALT, urea, creatinine, reactive oxygen species, and lipid peroxidation; and reduced organ weight (liver, kidneys, and testes), concentrations of total protein, albumin, catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), superoxide dismutase (SOD), free and total testosterone, sperm count, motility, and viability. Furthermore, tartrazine induced histopathological alterations and DNA damage in hepatic, renal and testicular tissues. Co-treatment of rats with curcumin and tartrazine revealed milder pathological alterations compared to rats treated with tartrazine alone. Simple Summary: The choice of the optimal sperm preservation method is an important consideration in animal breeding. Stored semen can be used for reproductive purposes to introduce new genotypes and prevent inbreeding, which poses a considerable problem in cervid farms. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the effect of storage time and storage method (liquid state/epididymides) on the motility, morphology, and antioxidant status of European red deer sperm stored at 5 °C for up to six days (D0-D6). Sperm samples were assessed for motility, viability, morphology, activity of antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase, SOD; glutathione peroxidase, GPx; catalase, CAT), and lipid peroxidation (based on malondialdehyde, MDA, content). Significant differences between storage variants were noted on D2 in sperm morphology; on D4 in the percentage of progressively motile sperm, MDA content, and SOD and GPx activity; and on D6 in the percentage of motile and viable spermatozoa. Sperm motility, viability, and antioxidant status are more effectively preserved during liquid storage than epididymal storage. Morphological and functional abnormalities of sperm were observed earlier during epididymal storage, which suggests that spermatozoa can be stored for shorter periods of time in the epididymides than in a liquid state. The aim of this study was to evaluate the motility, morphology, and antioxidant status of European red deer sperm stored in a liquid state (variant I) and in the epididymides (variant II). Spermatozoa were harvested post-mortem from the cauda epididymis. Sperm samples in both variants were stored for up to six days (D6) at 5 °C. On D2, a decrease in motility and acrosomal integrity was observed in both storage variants, whereas a decrease in viability and an increase in MDA content were noted in spermatozoa stored in the epididymides. On D4, higher values of SOD and GPx activity and MDA content were noted in variant I than in variant II. Catalase activity was very low. GPx is the key enzyme that participates in the reduction of hydrogen peroxide in sperm cells. Spermatozoa stored in a liquid state were characterized by higher motility and viability, improved morphology and antioxidant status than those stored in the epididymides; therefore, liquid storage is more recommended for short-term preservation of epididymal spermatozoa. Simple Summary: This study investigated the effects of three artificial diets used in aquaculture, two for rainbow trout and one for Atlantic salmon, on the growth rate, organ responses, gene expression and immune responses of parr juvenile Atlantic salmon. The diets differed with respect to their carbohydrate, protein and lipid levels, with the lipid levels being the main focus of this study. We found no significant differences in the growth, feed efficiency, immunity, histology or gene expression of Atlantic salmon parr between the rainbow trout and salmon feed groups. Therefore, rainbow trout feed, which has a relatively low lipid content, could be used as a rearing feed for juvenile parr-stage Atlantic salmon, bringing potential economic benefits. Lipids in fish diets provide energy and play important roles in immunity and metabolism. Atlantic salmon, a species that migrates from freshwater to seawater, requires high energy, especially during smoltification. Juvenile teleosts have low lipid requirements, and a high dietary lipid content is known to have negative effects on their growth and digestion. Therefore, this study evaluated the effect of two commercial rainbow trout feeds (low-lipid, 13.41% and 14.6%) on the growth and immune responses of early parr-stage Atlantic salmon compared to commercial salmon feed (high-lipid, 29.52%). Atlantic salmon parr (weight: 14.56 ± 2.1 g; length: 11.23 ± 0.44 cm) were randomly divided into three groups and fed either one of two commercial rainbow trout feeds (RTF1 and RTF2) or the commercial salmon feed (ASF) for 12 weeks. At the end of the feeding trial, growth, haematology, histology and gene expression analyses were performed. There were no significant differences in weight gain rates or feed efficiency between the groups (p > 0.05). Superoxidate dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, lysozyme and immunoglobulin M activities were not different among the experimental groups (p > 0.05). A histological examination of the liver and intestinal tissues showed no pathological symptoms of inflammatory response or lipid accumulation in any of the groups. In an intestinal transcriptome analysis using RNA-seq, the expression levels of several genes linked to lipids, immune-related proteins, cytokines and chemokines did not differ significantly between the groups (p > 0.05). Commercial rainbow trout feed with low lipid content has no clear negative impact on the development of Atlantic salmon during the early parr stage (14.5 to 39.6 g). Simple Summary: Various kinds of yellow-feathered chickens are crossbred from Chinese local native chicken breeds and introduced broilers. The individual parts of yellow-feathered chickens are less suitable for sale after slaughtering than those of broilers, and they have mainly been sold as live whole chickens. With the establishment of cold chain logistics for chicken in China, chilled-type and processed yellow-feathered chicken products have appeared in the market. Xueshan chicken, a yellow-feathered chicken breed, which has high meat quality and good taste, is bred to meet the diversified needs of the market by Jiangsu Lihua Breeding Company. The present study used Xueshan chicken as an experimental model to determine the effect of sex on the slaughtering performance and meat quality. This study provides valuable breeding references for poultry producers by determining the basic production phenotypes of yellow-feathered chickens. The demand for high-quality chilled chicken has continued to increase in China. Chickens are sexually dimorphic, and to better understand the specific differences in chicken production based on sex, we examined how sex affects growth performance, carcass traits, and meat quality of yellow-feathered chickens. Male and female Xueshan chickens were used as the experimental model. Although males exhibited better growth performance, including body weight (BW), body slope, keel, shank length, and shank girth (p < 0.05), as well as carcass traits, such as dressed weight, leg muscle, and lean meat, females had higher carcass and breast muscle yields (p < 0.05). Males had higher follicle density and yellowness (b*) of the skin and better skin than females (p < 0.05). Among blood biochemical parameters, the serum content of corticosterone (CORT) was higher in males, while those of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX), total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), and catalase (CAT) were lower in males than in females (p < 0.05). The pH levels, shear force, and moisture content quality were better in male breast meat, while the intramuscular fat content (IMF) was lower in males than in females (p < 0.05). The redness (a*) and moisture content were higher in male leg meat, while the pH, water-loss rate (WLR), lightness (L*), and IMF were lower (p < 0.05). The muscle fiber diameter and cross-sectional area were also higher in males (p < 0.05). Consumers felt that soup of male chicken was better than female (p < 0.05), while mouthfeel and tenderness acceptance of breast meat were different between the sexes. These results indicate that female chickens can be marketed as a whole carcass, while males are more suitable for processed carcass products. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) on cholestasis in duck liver and its nutritional regulation. Three hundred sixty 1-day-old ducks were randomly divided into six groups and fed for 4 weeks. The control group was fed a basic diet, while the experimental group diet contained 90 μg/kg of AFB1. Cholestyramine, atorvastatin calcium, taurine, and emodin were added to the diets of four experimental groups. The results show that in the AFB1 group, the growth properties, total bile acid (TBA) serum levels and total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), and glutathione (GSH) liver levels decreased, while the malondialdehyde (MDA) and TBA liver levels increased (p < 0.05). Moreover, AFB1 caused cholestasis. Cholestyramine, atorvastatin calcium, taurine, and emodin could reduce the TBA serum and liver levels (p < 0.05), alleviating the symptoms of cholestasis. The qPCR results show that AFB1 upregulated cytochrome P450 family 7 subfamily A member 1 (CYP7A1) and cytochrome P450 family 8 subfamily B member 1 (CYP8B1) gene expression and downregulated ATP binding cassette subfamily B member 11 (BSEP) gene expression in the liver, and taurine and emodin downregulated CYP7A1 and CYP8B1 gene expression (p < 0.05). In summary, AFB1 negatively affects health and alters the expression of genes related to liver bile acid metabolism, leading to cholestasis. This study investigated the effects of ghrelin on oxidative stress, working memory, inflammatory parameters, and neuron degeneration. TBI was produced with the weight-drop technique. Rats in the G+TBI and TBI+G groups received ghrelin for 7 or 2 days, respectively. The control group received saline. On the 8th day of the study, the brain and blood tissue were taken under anesthesia. A significant increase in brain GSH-PX, MDA, IL-1β, TGF-β1, and IL-8 levels and a significant decrease in CAT levels were found in the TBI group compared to the control. Serum MDA, GSH, IL-1β, and IL-8 levels were increased with TBI. Ghrelin treatment after TBI significantly increased the serum GSH, CAT, GSH-PX, and brain GSH and CAT levels, while it significantly decreased the serum MDA, IL-1β, and brain MDA, TGF-β1, and IL-8 levels. Histological evaluations revealed that ghrelin treatment led to a reduction in inflammation, while also significantly ameliorating TBI-induced neuron damage and vascular injuries. Immunohistochemistry staining showed that GFAP staining intensity was significantly increased in the cortex and hippocampus in TBI, and GFAP immunoreactivity was decreased with ghrelin treatment. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), breast cancer (BC) is the deadliest and the most common type of cancer worldwide in women. Several factors associated with BC exert their effects by modulating the state of stress. They can induce genetic mutations or alterations in cell growth, encouraging neoplastic development and the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). ROS are able to activate many signal transduction pathways, producing an inflammatory environment that leads to the suppression of programmed cell death and the promotion of tumor proliferation, angiogenesis, and metastasis; these effects promote the development and progression of malignant neoplasms. However, cells have both non-enzymatic and enzymatic antioxidant systems that protect them by neutralizing the harmful effects of ROS. In this sense, antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione reductase (GR), thioredoxin reductase (TrxR), and peroxiredoxin (Prx) protect the body from diseases caused by oxidative damage. In this review, we will discuss mechanisms through which some enzymatic antioxidants inhibit or promote carcinogenesis, as well as the new therapeutic proposals developed to complement traditional treatments. Mesotrione, as a widely used herbicide, is present in the environment in detectable amounts, causing serious damage. Here, we aimed to investigate the effect of mesotrione on Caco-2 cells and the possibility of its toxicity mitigation by cichoric acid. Therefore, we analyzed the cytotoxicity of both these compounds and the selected oxidative stress parameters, apoptosis and interaction of both the tested compounds with the cell membrane and their accumulation within the cells. In cytotoxicity studies, the stimulating activity of mesotrione was observed, and simultaneously, the inhibitory effect of cichoric acid was noticed. This effect was related to the results of oxidative stress analysis and apoptosis measurements. The activity level of key enzymes (glutathione peroxidase, catalase and superoxide dismutase) in Caco-2 cells exposed to cichoric acid was higher as compared to that of the control. The treatment with mesotrione did not induce apoptosis in the Caco-2 cells. The penetration of the studied compounds into the Caco-2 cells was measured by using an HPLC methodology, and the results indicate mesotrione's high penetration capacity. The distribution of charge on the surface of the cell membranes changed under the influence of both compounds. Considering the mutual interactions of beneficial and potentially toxic food ingredients, it should be noted that, despite the observed favorable trend, cichoric acid is not able to overcome the toxic and cancer-stimulating effects of this pesticide. Fibroblast growth factor 5 (FGF5) plays key roles in promoting the transition from the anagen to catagen during the hair follicle cycle. The sheep serves as an excellent model for studying hair growth and is frequently utilized in various research processes related to human skin diseases. We used the CRISPR/Cas9 system to generate four FGF5-edited Dorper sheep and only low levels of FGF5 were detected in the edited sheep. The density of fine wool in GE sheep was markedly increased, and the proportion of fine wool with a diameter of 14.4–20.0 μm was significantly higher. The proliferation signal in the skin of gene-edited (GE) sheep was stronger than in wild-type (WT) sheep. FGF5 editing decreased cortisol concentration in the skin, further activated the activity of antioxidant enzymes such as Glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), and regulated the expression of Wnt signaling pathways containing Wnt agonists (Rspondins, Rspos) and antagonists (Notum) in hair regeneration. We suggest that FGF5 not only mediates the activation of antioxidant pathways by cortisol, which constitutes a highly coordinated microenvironment in hair follicle cells, but also influences key signals of the Wnt pathway to regulate secondary hair follicle (SHF) development. Overall, our findings here demonstrate that FGF5 plays a significant role in regulating SHF growth in sheep and potentially serves as a molecular marker of fine wool growth in sheep breeding. The quantity and quality of dietary fats have a significant impact on human health. This study aimed to investigate the effects of different cooking oils (olive oil (OO), soybean oil (SO), and blended oil (BO)) on growth, glucolipid metabolism, inflammation, and oxidative stress of rats fed normal and high‐fat diets. The results showed that the OO‐fed group had lower concentrations of serum triglyceride (TG), low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL‐C), malondialdehyde (MDA), oxidized LDL‐C (ox‐LDL‐C), and serum total cholesterol (TC) than the normal‐fat SO‐fed group, and rats in the BO‐fed group had lower values of serum interleukin‐6 (IL‐6), high‐sensitivity C‐reactive protein (hs‐CRP), tumor necrosis factor (TNF‐α), and nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA) than the normal‐fat SO‐fed groups. However, higher serum glutathione peroxidase (GSH‐Px) activity was observed in the OO‐fed group, while those fed with BO had higher serum superoxide dismutase (SOD) and GSH‐Px activities. Generally, most health‐beneficial fatty acid profiles have a high content of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), an appropriate saturated fatty acid (SFA)/MUFA/poly unsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) ratio, and a low n‐6/n‐3 PUFA ratio, while diets contained a high content of fat is detrimental to health. The objective of this study was to investigate the protective effects of a peptidoglycan produced by Limosilactobacillus reuteri against aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) induced toxicity in vitro and in vivo in broiler chicks. 2. Toxin adsorption experiments were carried out firstly in vitro. These experiments indicated that the absorption efficiency of the peptidoglycan for AFB1 was 64.3–75.9%. 3. In the in vivo experiments, Hy-Line Brown chicks were fed a diet containing AFB1 at 71.43 µg/kg with and without peptidoglycan supplementation at concentrations of 100, 200, or 300 g/kg feed from 0–42 d of age. 4. The peptidoglycan supplementation in AFB1-contaminated diets resulted in significant improvements in terms of average daily gain, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, white blood cell count, haemoglobin content, glutathione peroxidase activity, immunoglobulin (Ig) A, IgG, IgM and Newcastle disease virus antibody titres (p < 0.05) and diminished liver steatosis. 5. In conclusion, peptidoglycan supplementation alleviated AFB1-induced toxicity through adsorbing toxins and improving growth performance, antioxidant ability, immunity and liver pathological changes in chicks. 1. The ferritin heavy chain (FHC) has a vital impact on follicular development in geese, due to its ability to regulate apoptosis of granulosa cells (GCs) and follicular atresia. However, its specific regulatory mechanisms remain unclear. The present study characterised how FHC regulates oxidative stress, cell proliferation and apoptosis in goose GCs by interfering with and overexpressing the FHC gene. 2. After 72 h of interference with FHC expression, the activity of GCs decreased remarkably (p < 0.05), reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels and the expression levels of antioxidant enzyme genes catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) increased significantly (p < 0.05). The overexpression of FHC for 72 h was found to significantly reduce the expression of CAT and SOD genes (p < 0.05). 3. Interfering with FHC expression revealed that the expression levels of the cell proliferation gene Aurora kinase A (AURORA-A) were significantly decreased (p < 0.05), while the expression levels of the apoptosis genes B-cell lymphoma-2 (BCL-2) and cysteine aspartate-specific protease 8 (CASPASE 8) increased (p < 0.05). Further research has shown that, when interfering with FHC expression for 72 h, apoptosis rate increased by 1.19-fold (p < 0.05), but the current data showed a lower apoptosis rate after FHC overexpression by 59.41%, 63.39%, and 52.31% at three different treatment times (p < 0.05). 4. Ferroptosis is characterized by the lethal accumulation of lipid reactive oxygen species (ROS), which has great potential for tumor therapy. However, developing new ferroptosis-inducing strategies by combining nanomaterials with small molecule inducers is important. In this study, an enzyme-gated biodegradable natural-product delivery system based on lactate oxidase (LOD)-gated biodegradable iridium (Ir)-doped hollow mesoporous organosilica nanoparticles (HMONs) loaded with honokiol (HNK) (HNK@Ir-HMONs-LOD, HIHL) is designed to enhance ferroptosis in colon tumor therapy. After reaching the tumor microenvironment, the outer LOD dissociates and releases the HNK to induce ferroptosis. Moreover, the released dopant Ir4+ and disulfide-bridged organosilica frameworks deplete intracellular glutathione (GSH), which is followed by GSH-mediated Ir(IV)/Ir(III) conversion. This leads to the repression of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) activity and decomposition of intratumoral hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2) into hydroxyl radicals (•OH) by Ir3+-mediated Fenton-like reactions. Moreover, LOD efficiently depletes lactic acid to facilitate the generation of H 2 O 2 and boost the Fenton reaction, which in turn enhances ROS generation. With the synergistic effects of these cascade reactions and the release of HNK, notable ferroptosis efficacy was observed both in vitro and in vivo. This combination of natural product-induced and lactic acid-responsive sequential production of H 2 O 2 as well as the consumption of glutathione may provide a new paradigm for achieving effective ferroptosis-based cancer therapy. Ferroptosis of the retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells leads to retinal neuron injury and even visual loss. Our study aims to investigate the role of the SET domain with lysine methyltransferase 7/9 (SET7/9) in regulating high glucose (HG)-induced ferroptosis in RPE cells. The cell model was established by HG treatment. The levels of SET7/9 and Sirtuin 6 (SIRT6) were inhibited and Runt-related transcription factor 1 (RUNX1) was overexpressed through cell transfection, and then their levels in ARPE-19 cells were detected. Cell viability and apoptosis was detected. The levels of reactive oxygen species, malondialdehyde, glutathione, ferrous ion, glutathione peroxidase 4, and acyl-CoA synthetase long-chain family member 4 were detected. SET7/9 and trimethylation of histone H3 at lysine 4 (H3K4me3) levels in the RUNX1 promoter region and RUNX1 level in the SIRT6 promoter region were measured. The relationship between RUNX1 and SIRT6 was verified. SET7/9 and RUNX1 were highly expressed while SIRT6 was poorly expressed in HG-induced ARPE-19 cells. SET7/9 inhibition increased cell viability and inhibited cell apoptosis and ferroptosis. Mechanistically, SET7/9 increased H3K4me3 on the RUNX1 promoter to promote RUNX1, and RUNX1 repressed SIRT6 expression. Overexpression of RUNX1 or silencing SIRT6 partially reversed the inhibitory effect of SET7/9 silencing on HG-induced ferroptosis. Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a primary diabetic complication ascribed to the pathological changes in renal microvessels. This study investigated the nuclear factor erythroid 2‐related factor 2 (Nrf2)/Kelch ECH associating protein (Keap1)/antioxidant response element (ARE) signaling pathway impact of chitooligosaccharides (COS) with a certain degree of polymerization (DP) on DN mouse models and high glucose‐damaged human kidney 2 (HK‐2) cells. The findings indicated that COS effectively reduced the renal function indexes (uric acid [UA], urinary albumin excretion rate [UAER], urine albumin‐to‐creatinine ratio [UACR], blood urea nitrogen [BUN], and creatinine [Cre]) of DN mice. It increased (p <.05) the superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH‐Px), and catalase (CAT) antioxidant enzyme activity in the serum and kidneys, and decreased (p <.05) the malondialdehyde (MDA) content. The mechanistic investigation showed that COS significantly increased (p <.05) Nrf2 and downstream target gene (GCLM, GCLC, HO‐1, and NQO‐1) expression, and substantially decreased (p <.05) Keap1 expression. The protein level was consistent with the messenger RNA (mRNA) level in in vitro and in vivo models. The docking data indicated that COS and Keap1 protein binding included six hydrogen bond formation processes (Gly364, Arg415, Arg483, His436, Ser431, and Arg380). The COS intervention mechanism may be related to the Nrf2/Keap1/ARE antioxidant pathway. This research aimed to examine the association between the following Mediterranean‐DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay (MIND) dietary pattern and oxidative stress indicators, metabolic factors, disease activity, and the odds of disease in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In this cross‐sectional study, we included 101 patients with RA and 101 healthy individuals. The MIND diet score was measured using a semi‐quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) with 147 food items. Total capacity antioxidant (TCA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPX), and malondialdehyde (MDA) serum concentrations were evaluated by ELISA, and the disease severity was measured regarding the disease activity score 28 (DAS‐28) criteria. The average score of the MIND diet was substantially lower in the RA subjects than in the healthy people (p <.001). Individuals with a higher MIND diet score had lower odds of RA than those with a low score (p <.001). There was no remarkable link between the MIND diet and oxidative stress factors (p >.05). A reverse association was found between the MIND diet score and disease activity (p <.05). The MIND diet was significantly and negatively correlated with triglycerides, low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol, total cholesterol, fasting blood glucose, and hemoglobin A1C. There was a positive association between the diet and high‐density lipoprotein cholesterol. The findings indicate that following the MIND diet may decrease disease activity and the odds of RA. Also, high adherence to the MIND diet may improve the lipid profile and blood glucose status in RA patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is extremely common in clinical practice and needs to be focused. Anwulignan is a unique lignan monomer of Schisandra Sphenanthera Fructus and is used as the main active ingredient of Wuzhi tablet, which is used for liver protection in clinical practice. In this study, an acute liver injury mouse model induced by acetaminophen and paracetamol (APAP) was used to observe its effects. Materials and Methods: An acute liver injury mouse model was established by intraperitoneally injecting APAP. Mice were divided into blank control (CON) group, APAP model (MOD) group, Anwulignan CON group, and Anwulignan MOD group. Anwulignan (6 mg/kg) or sodium carboxymethylcellulose (10 mL/kg) was intragastrically given to mice once a day, successively for 14 days. On day 14, 250 mg/kg APAP solution (10 mL/kg) or saline was injected intraperitoneally, and 12 h later, the mice were killed. alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels in the serum of mice were tested. The liver index of mice was calculated, and the pathology of liver injury was evaluated by HE staining in mice. The activities of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) as well as the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) in the liver tissue were tested. The levels of kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap-1), nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1), BCL2 associated X protein (Bax), B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2), caspase-3 and tumor suppressor protein (P53) mRNAs in the liver tissues of mice were detected by reverse transcription-PCR (RT-PCR), and the expression levels of Keap-1, Nrf2, HO-1, Bax, Bcl-2, caspase-3 and P53 proteins in the liver tissue of mice were detected by Western blot. Results: Anwulignan can alleviate the acute liver injury of mice. The down-regulation of the cyclophosphamide (CYP2E1) expression in the liver tissue of mice to reduce the hepatotoxicity of APAP, and the regulation of Nrf2-ARE signaling pathway-related gene expressions to play an antioxidant role and apoptosis-related gene expressions to inhibit the liver cell apoptosis may be involved in the mechanism through which Anwulignan can exert its effect. Conclusion: Anwulignan can alleviate the liver injury induced by APAP in mice, and this study may provide evidence for researching and developing some drugs and nutraceuticals used for preventing and treating liver injury.
