Introduction Electronic cigarettes are increasingly popular worldwide, especially among youth. There is growing evidence of the negative health consequences of vaping. Our objective was to assess university students’ knowledge and attitudes regarding electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes), their use, as well as the associated influencing factors for their use. Methods The study involved an online cross-sectional survey conducted between November 2019 and March 2020 in a university in Hangzhou, China. A total of 563 students completed the questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used to assess characteristics, knowledge, and attitudes; t-tests, χ 2 -tests and logistic regression models were used to identify factors associated with ever e-cigarette use. Results In all, 59.9% of respondents were female and the average age was 20.38 years (SD=1.32). Only 42.6% of the respondents thought that e-cigarettes contain nicotine, 31.1% thought e-cigarettes are tobacco products, and 8.2% of the students reported being ever e-cigarettes users. In regard to attitude, the average score of the students in the Safety dimension was 3.34 (SD=0.64), followed by the Restriction dimension (Mean=2.66, SD=0.83). Correlates of ever use included regions, friends’ and roommates’ ever e-cigarette use, and higher attitude score in the Supervision dimension. Conclusions The university students’ level of knowledge regarding e-cigarettes was not high, and their attitudes regarding e-cigarettes were not that supportive. Students’ ever use of e-cigarettes at a university in Hangzhou was higher than for university students in other cities in China, but lower than for those in foreign countries.

Dictyophora indusiata (Vent. Ex Pers.) Fisch. (DI) is an edible and medicinal fungus widely used in East Asian countries. However, during DI cultivation, the formation of fruiting bodies cannot be regulated, which leads to yield and quality losses. The present study performed a combined genome, transcriptome, and metabolome analysis of DI. Using Nanopore and Illumina sequencing approaches, we created the DI reference genome, which was 67.32 Mb long with 323 contigs. We identified 19,909 coding genes on this genome, of which 46 gene clusters were related to terpenoid synthesis. Subsequent transcriptome sequencing using five DI tissues (cap, indusia, mycelia, stipe, and volva) showed high expression levels of genes in the cap, indicating the tissue’s importance in regulating the fruiting body formation. Meanwhile, the metabolome analysis identified 728 metabolites from the five tissues. Mycelium was rich in choline, while volva was rich in dendronobilin; stipe had monosaccharides as the primary component, and the cap was the main source of indole acetic acid (IAA) synthesis. We confirmed the importance of tryptophan metabolism for DI fruiting body differentiation based on KEGG pathway analysis. Finally, the combined multiomics analysis identified three new genes related to IAA synthesis of the tryptophan metabolic pathway in the cap, which may regulate DI fruiting body synthesis and improve DI quality. Thus, the study’s findings expand our understanding of resource development and the molecular mechanisms underlying DI development and differentiation. However, the current genome is still a rough draft that needs to be strengthened.

Using green technology by building materials manufacturers to produce low-carbon building materials is an effective way to control carbon emissions and promote traditional industries’ green and low-carbon development. Based on the government, small and medium-sized building materials manufacturers, and scientific research institutes, this paper sets 15 variables that affect the strategy selection of game participants, establishes an evolutionary game model under the constraint of the carbon tax, explores the behavioral strategies of the three parties in the industry life cycle to produce low-carbon building materials, and analyzes the sensitivity of critical factors. Results: The government plays a leading role in the initial stage, which is gradually replaced by the market-leading mechanism as the low-carbon building materials industry develops to maturity. The government’s decision-making behavior is almost unaffected by the two, and appropriate subsidies and carbon tax penalties at each stage of the industry life cycle can help improve the enthusiasm of the other two parties to participate in low-carbon behavior. Establishing a reasonable income distribution coefficient between small and medium-sized building materials manufacturers and scientific research institutes is more conducive to speeding up the stable state than transferring and selling technology.

IntroductionAntenatal corticosteroids (ACS) administration is a standardized prenatal care for accelerating fetal maturation before anticipated preterm delivery, however, its effect on nutrition and growth is yet uncertain. This study aimed to examine if ACS application is associated with improvement in postnatal growth and nutrition in very preterm infants (VPIs).MethodsThis was a secondary analysis of a multicenter prospective survey included infants born before 32 weeks gestation and admitted to 28 tertiary neonatal intensive care units throughout China from September 2019 to December 2020. Infants were divided into no ACS, partial ACS and complete ACS groups according to the steroids exposure. For infants exposed to antenatal corticosteroids, complete ACS was defined as receiving all doses of steroids 24 h-7 days before delivery, otherwise it was referred to partial ACS. The primary outcomes of postnatal growth were compared among the 3 groups. IntroductionHypertension is a growing public health concern worldwide. It is a leading risk factor for all-cause mortality and may lead to complications such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, and kidney failure. Poor compliance of hypertensive patients is one of the major barriers to controlling high blood pressure. Compliance is not ideal among Chinese patients, and increasing patient self-care compliance with hypertension is necessary.MethodsThis article analyzes the status of self-care compliance, trust, and satisfaction among Chinese hypertensive patients using cross-sectional data from Zhejiang Province. We use a multi-group structural equation model (MGSEM) to compare the interrelationships across genders.ResultsThe study's findings show that the average trust, satisfaction, and compliance scores are 3.92 ± 0.55, 3.98 ± 0.61, and 3.33 ± 0.41, respectively. Female patients exhibit higher average total scores for trust and compliance than male patients. The SEM results indicate that trust has a direct positive association with compliance [β = 0.242, 95% CI: (0.068, 0.402)] and satisfaction [β = 0.260, 95% CI: (0.145, 0.367)], while their satisfaction is not directly associated with compliance. The results of MGSEM show that trust has an indirect effect on compliance in the male group through satisfaction [β = 0.051, P < 0.05, 95% CI: (0.012, 0.116)]. In the female group, trust has a direct effect on satisfaction [β = 0.235, P < 0.05, 95% CI: (0.041, 0.406)] and compliance [β = 0.319, P < 0.01, 95% CI: (0.086, 0.574)].DiscussionThis study reveals the mechanisms of self-care compliance, trust, and satisfaction among Chinese hypertensive patients. Its findings may serve as a reference for guiding primary healthcare providers to improve hypertension patients' compliance and implement gender-targeted health interventions.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has swept the world and poses a serious threat to human health. In the post-pandemic-era, we must remain vigilant against the co-infection of SARS-CoV-2 and other respiratory viruses. More accurate and convenient detection methods are required for the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 due to its prolonged existence. In this study, the application value of a novel lyophilized-pellet-based 2019-nCoV nucleic acid diagnostic kit (PCoV-Kit) was evaluated by comparing it with a conventional liquid diagnostic kit (LCoV-Kit). We assessed the sensitivity, precision, accuracy, specificity, and amplification efficiency of PCoV-Kit and LCoV-Kit using diluted SARS-CoV-2 RNA reference materials. The results showed that both kits had high sensitivity, precision, accuracy, and specificity. A total of 2,033 oropharyngeal swab specimens collected during mass screening in Fuzhou in December 2022 were applied for the consistency analysis of the two reagents. In the detection of clinical oropharyngeal swab specimens, although the positive rate of PCoV-Kit (19.28%) was slightly lower than that of LCoV-Kit (20.86%), statistical analysis demonstrated a high degree of consistency between the test results obtained using both kit (χ2 = 1.57, P>0.05; Kappa coefficient = 0.90, 95%CI: 0.88-0.93). In conclusion, the use of lyophilized PCoV-Kit provides a non-inferior assay for the diagnosis of COVID-19.

Objective. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of surveillance inspections conducted by the provincial health committee in Quanzhou city during a COVID-19 outbreak in reducing false-positive results in SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR assays. Method. The team conducted on-site inspections of laboratories that participated in mass screening, recording any violations of rules. Results. The positive cases in five rounds of mass screening were 23, 173, and 4 in Licheng District, Fengze District, and Luojang District, respectively. The false-positive rates in the five rounds of mass screening were 0.0099%, 0.0063%, 0.0018%, 0.0006%, and 0%, respectively. The study also recorded that the number of violations in the seven selected laboratories was 36, 68, 69, 42, 60, 54 and 47. The corresponding false-positive rates were 0.0012%, 0.0060%, 0.0082%, 0.0032%, 0.0060%, 0.0027%, and 0.0021%, respectively. BackgroundPeriventricular leukomalacia (PVL) is an essential cause of cerebral palsy in preterm infants, and cystic PVL (cPVL) is the most severe form of the disease. The pathogenesis of cPVL is complex, and immune imbalances and inflammatory responses may play an essential role in it.ObjectiveThis study aimed to investigate the correlation between peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets, especially γδT cells with the pathogenesis of cPVL in preterm infants.MethodsPeripheral blood from preterm infants with GA < 32 weeks and BW < 1,500 g was used in this study and was collected at 34 weeks corrected gestational age and within 24 h after the diagnosis with cranial MRI or cranial ultrasound. The infants were divided into cPVL groups and control groups. Flow cytometry was used to detect peripheral blood γδT, CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, and the proportion of total lymphocytes. Multiplex cell assays were used to detect the concentration of extracellular serum cytokines IL-6, IL-2, IL-8, IL-17A, IL-10, IL-1RA, eotaxin (CCL11), MCP-1 (CCL2), CXCL1, G-CSF, and IFNγ. A follow-up visit was carried out when the patient was 3 years old.ResultsAfter correcting for confounding factors, the proportion of peripheral blood γδT in the cPVL group was significantly lower than that in the control group (β: 0.216; 95% CI: 0.058–0.800, P < 0.022). Peripheral blood γδT (AUC: 0.722, P=0.006) and multivariate binary regression model (AUC: 0.865, P < 0.000) have good diagnostic values for cPVL. Peripheral blood γδT has some predictive power for neurodevelopmental outcomes in preterm infants (AUC: 0.743, P = 0.002).ConclusionIt seems that peripheral blood γδT cells are inversely correlated with cPVL, which is not only a risk factor for cPVL disease but also neurodevelopmental outcomes in preterm infants. However, the causality of cPVL and various lymphocytes is unclear and needs further study.

In the era of artificial intelligence, the significance of images and videos as intuitive conveyors of information cannot be overstated. Computer vision techniques rooted in deep learning have revolutionized our ability to autonomously and accurately identify objects within visual media, making them a focal point of contemporary research. This study addresses the pivotal role of image object detection, particularly in the contexts of autonomous driving and security surveillance, by presenting an in-depth exploration of this field with a focus on enhancing the feature pyramid network. One of the key challenges in existing object detection methodologies lies in mitigating information loss caused by multi-scale feature fusion. To tackle this issue, we propose the enhanced feature pyramid, which adeptly amalgamates features extracted across different scales. This strategic enhancement effectively curbs information attrition across various layers, thereby strengthening the feature extraction capabilities of the foundational network. Furthermore, we confront the issue of excessive classification loss in image object detection tasks by introducing the gradient density loss function, designed to mitigate classification discrepancies. Empirical results unequivocally demonstrate the efficacy of our approach in enhancing the detection of multi-scale objects within images. When evaluated across benchmark datasets, including MS COCO 2017, MS COCO 2014, Pascal VOC 2007, and Pascal VOC 2012, our method achieves impressive average precision scores of 39.4%, 42.0%, 51.5%, and 49.9%, respectively. This performance clearly outperforms alternative state-of-the-art methods in the field. This research not only contributes to the evolving landscape of computer vision and object detection but also has practical implications for a wide range of applications, aligning with the transformative trends in the automotive industry and security technologies.

As the intensive development of aquaculture persists, the demand for fishmeal continues to grow; however, since fishery resources are limited, the price of fishmeal remains high. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop new sources of protein. They are rich in proteins, fatty acids, amino acids, chitin, vitamins, minerals, and antibacterial substances. Maggot meal-based diet is an ideal source of high-quality animal protein and a new type of protein-based immune enhancer with good application prospects in animal husbandry and aquaculture. In the present study, we investigated the effects of three different diets containing maggot protein on the growth and intestinal microflora of Litopenaeus vannamei. The shrimp were fed either a control feed (no fly maggot protein added), FM feed (compound feed with 30% fresh fly maggot protein added), FF feed (fermented fly maggot protein), or HT feed (high-temperature pelleted fly maggot protein) for eight weeks. The results showed that fresh fly maggot protein in the feed was detrimental to shrimp growth, whereas fermented and high-temperature-pelleted fly maggot protein improved shrimp growth and survival. The effects of different fly maggot protein treatments on the intestinal microbiota of L. vannamei also varied. Fermented fly maggot protein feed and high-temperature-pelleted fly maggot protein feed increased the relative abundance of Ruegeria and Pseudomonas, which increased the abundance of beneficial bacteria and thus inhibited the growth of harmful bacteria. In contrast, fresh fly maggot proteins alter the intestinal microbiome, disrupting symbiotic relationships between bacteria, and causing invasion by Vibrio and antibiotic-resistant bacteria. These results suggest that fresh fly maggot proteins affect the composition of intestinal microorganisms, which is detrimental to the intestinal tract of L. vannamei, whereas fermented fly maggot protein feed affected the growth of L. vannamei positively by improving the composition of intestinal microorganisms.

Due to the intensification of climate change around the world, the incidence of natural disasters is increasing year by year, and monitoring, forecasting, and detecting evolution using satellite imaging technology are important methods for remote sensing. This study aimed to monitor the occurrence of fire disasters using Sentinel-2 satellite imaging technology to determine the burned-severity area via classification and to study the recovery process to observe extraordinary natural phenomena. The study area that was sampled was in the southeastern part of Mongolia, where most wildfires occur each year, near the Shiliin Bogd Mountain in the natural steppe zone and in the Bayan-Uul sub-province in the forest-steppe natural zone. The normalized burn ratio (NBR) method was used to map the area of the fire site and determine the classification of the burned area. The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) was used to determine the recovery process in a timely series in the summer from April to October. The results of the burn severity were demonstrated in the distribution maps from the satellite images, where it can be seen that the total burned area of the steppe natural zone was 1164.27 km2, of which 757.34 km2 (65.00 percent) was classified as low, 404.57 km2 (34.70 percent) was moderate-low, and the remaining 2.36 km2 (0.30 percent) was moderate-high, and the total burned area of the forest-steppe natural zone was 588.35 km2, of which 158.75 km2 (26.98 percent) was classified as low, 297.75 km2 (50.61 percent) was moderate-low, 131.25 km2 (22.31 percent) was moderate-high, and the remaining 0.60 km2 (0.10 percent) was high. Finally, we believe that this research is most helpful for emergency workers, researchers, and environmental specialists.

In order to solve the problems of short circuit, open circuit and insulation faults in aviation cables, a fault diagnosis method based on BP-Adaboost algorithm is proposed in this paper. The BP neural network is used as the weak classifier in the Adaboost algorithm, and many weak classifiers are composed a strong classifier with stronger classification performance to diagnose fault categories. The BP-Adaboost fault diagnosis model is established, and the BP-Adaboost algorithm is improved to adapt to the multi-classification faults of cables, so as to identify the short circuit, open circuit, and insulation faults in the aircraft cable as well as normal working conditions. The accuracy of classification is analyzed; the results of the algorithm are analyzed by Matlab software, and the analysis results show that the improved BP-Adaboost algorithm has a relatively good classification performance for multi-class aviation cable fault diagnosis. Finally, the feasibility of the algorithm proposed is verified through an example combined with cable fault detection equipment.

ObjectiveTRNA-derived fragments (tRFs) and tRNA-derived stress-induced RNAs (tiRNAs) are recognized as novel and potential types of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), and several tRF/tiRNA signatures are closely associated with tumor diagnosis. This study aimed to analyze the expression profiles of plasma tRFs/tiRNAs and to clarify their diagnostic value in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD).MethodsThe differential expression profiles of plasma tRFs/tiRNAs in patients with four patients with early LUAD, four patients with advanced LUAD, and four healthy controls were analyzed using high-throughput sequencing technology. Then, plasma tRFs/tiRNAs were validated by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), and their diagnostic efficiency was appraised by receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. The correlation of candidate plasma tRFs/tiRNAs with clinicopathological features was also analyzed. Finally, bioinformatics analysis was performed to explore and identify the potential biological pathways induced by tRFs/tiRNAs.ResultsThe sequencing results revealed that tRFs/tiRNAs from plasma samples in patients with LUAD were differently expressed, supporting the necessity of exploring their potential as biomarkers. The validation results of qRT-PCR demonstrated that the expression level of tRF-1:29-Pro-AGG-1-M6 was downregulated in LUAD, while that of tRF-55:76-Tyr-GTA-1-M2 was upregulated, which was consistent with the sequencing data. The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve of tRF-1:29-Pro-AGG-1-M6 and tRF-55:76-Tyr-GTA-1-M2 were 0.882 and 0.896, respectively, which have significant values in the diagnosis of LUAD. The expressions of tRF-1:29-Pro-AGG-1-M6 and tRF-55:76-Tyr-GTA-1-M2 in LUAD were obviously correlated with various clinicopathological features such as tumor–node–metastasis stage, node stage, and the expression levels of carcinoembryonic antigen. In addition, their expression was significantly altered from before to after tumor resection in LUAD patients. The results of Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analyses further indicated that tRF-1:29-Pro-AGG-1-M6 and tRF-55:76-Tyr-GTA-1-M2 are widely distributed and apparently enriched in several tumor-related signaling pathways.ConclusionsPlasma tRF-1:29-Pro-AGG-1-M6 and tRF-55:76-Tyr-GTA-1-M2 may be promising components in the development of highly sensitive and non-invasive biomarkers for LUAD diagnosis.
