This work aims at developing a fully coupled numerical model by integrating the two-dimensional shallow water equations with entropy theory. TVD Mac-Cormack predictor-corrector finite difference scheme is employed to solve the modified form of shallow water equation in MATLAB. Computed two-dimensional hydraulic parameters are substituted in the entropy theory to calculate the vertical velocity profile in the domain. The coupled model applied at different locations in the Brahmaputra river and the computed outputs validated with the observed field data. The robustness and stability of the linked model are found satisfactory. The influence of the hydraulic structures on secondary current generation and the velocity dip phenomenon is investigated during the study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
