PurposeThis study examines how satisfaction with work-life balance (WLB) in combination with satisfaction with organization's COVID-19 responses (SOCV19R) helps to enhance subjective well-being and performance during the lockdown due to COVID-19.Design/methodology/approachThe data of this time-lagged study were gathered through an online survey with three-waves between March and May 2020 in Spain (N = 167). Hierarchical multiple regression and PROCESS were used to test the hypotheses.FindingsDirect relationships between SOCV19R and subjective well-being and performance were not significant. Instead, SOCV19R increased employees' well-being and performance through a higher satisfaction with WLB (full mediation).Originality/valueThe novelty of this study is the evaluation of SOCV19R as a form of organizational support in times of crisis. This study suggests that a good organizational reaction to face a crisis such as the pandemic, encourages employees' WLB and helps them to boost their well-being and performance. It may be concluded that work-life balance (WLB) in Spain was seen as a luxury in good times and turned out to be a necessity in bad times. The present study recommends practical implications and provides lessons for human resource management for future crises or similar work conditions.

Guided by the concepts of ‘memory’, ‘language’, and ‘daily life’, the following essay presents seven distinct settings which describe some of the stories that encapsulate the diverse experiences that humanity is going through under the confinement of the covid-19 worldwide pandemic. It is our goal to reflect on the impact that such experiences are having on society and anticipate the many outcomes to which the transformation of certain cultural practices could give rise to. Under the assumption that, even after the confinement has ended, certain collective behaviors and conducts will suffer an irreversible change which will be observed in the radical alteration of our routines, perceptions of our daily life, and how we build our interpersonal relationships, it is our wish to underline the areas of social life in which we can already perceive these transformations. The focus of deliberations here presented do not intend to assert unique and unequivocal answers, but to indicate some directions around which the insights that will become of great relevance are beginning to emerge to understand the path of the socio-cultural changes that the pandemic has brought about.

This study used a prospective design to examine the effects of telework satisfaction (time 1) on subjective wellbeing and self-reported performance (time 2) during the COVID-19 lockdown. Data were collected from 111 teleworkers through an online survey the first weeks of strict lockdown in Spain. Telework satisfaction showed positive direct effects on both subjective wellbeing and self-reported performance. Further, subjective wellbeing partially mediated the relationship between telework satisfaction and self-reported performance. Interestingly, employees with children felt less telework satisfaction but higher subjective wellbeing. The novelty of this study is that we evaluate the level of satisfaction with telework using a specific set of items that assess the employees’ contentment with diverse telework facets. Given the spreading of telework and the increasing competitiveness of organizations, we discuss practical implications in times of crisis, both present and future.

Purpose Magnesium is a profuse intracellular cation with a key role in muscle function and cellular senescence. The aim was to examine the prospective association between 5 year changes in dietary intake of magnesium and changes in physical performance among older men and women. Methods Prospective study conducted over 863 community-dwellers aged ≥ 65 years from the Seniors-ENRICA cohort (Spain). In 2012 and 2017, a validated computerized face-to-face diet history was used to record the consumption of up to 880 foods. From these data, we estimated changes in dietary magnesium intake. The Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) was also conducted in both time points and we obtained changes in the score during follow-up, with positive values indicating physical performance improvement. Results Over 5 years of follow-up, an increase in magnesium intake was associated with an increment in the SPPB score among older women [multivariate β (95% confidence interval): 1.01 (0.49; 1.52), p-trend: 0.001]. In addition, changes from non-adherence to adherence to both estimated average requirement and recommended dietary allowance during follow-up period were associated with an increment in SPPB score among older women [1.14 (0.36; 1.92) and 0.84 (0.22; 1.47), respectively]. No significant associations between changes in magnesium intake and changes in SPPB score were observed in men. Conclusions Both increase of magnesium intake and change from non-adherence to adherence to dietary reference magnesium intake was prospectively associated with better physical performance among older women, but not among men.

Epicatechin (EC) and main colonic phenolic acids derived from flavonoid intake have been suggested to exert healthful effects, although their mechanism of action remains unknown. Heart damage is highly prevalent in metabolic diseases, and the failure of this organ is a major cause of death worldwide. In this study, the modulation of the energy metabolism and insulin signalling by the mentioned compounds in cardiac H9c2 cells was evaluated. Incubation of cells with EC (1–20 μM) and 2,3-dihydroxybenzoic acid (DHBA, 10 μM) reduced glucose uptake, and both compounds decreased lipid accumulation at concentrations higher than 0.5 μM. EC and DHBA also increased the tyrosine phosphorylated and total insulin receptor (IR) levels, and activated the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT) pathway in cardiac H9c2 cells. Interestingly, EC and DHBA did not modify glucose transporters (SGLT-1 and GLUT-1) levels, and increased GLUT-4 values. In addition, EC and DHBA decreased cluster of differentiation 36 (CD36) and fatty acid synthase (FAS) values, and enhanced carnitine palmitoyl transferase 1 (CPT1) and proliferator activated receptor α (PPARα) levels. By using specific inhibitors of AKT and 5′-AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), the participation of both proteins in EC- and DHBA-mediated regulation on glucose uptake and lipid accumulation was shown. La propuesta esencial de este artículo de investigación se basa en el análisis, desde el punto de vista del marxismo del impacto político que esta forma de pensamiento y análisis social generó para comprender las transformaciones intelectuales y políticas en la medida que las condiciones de opresión surgidas por los antagonismos de clase se han mantenido vigentes; el marxismo, continúa siendo una fuente de interpretación y análisis para comprender la idea de la emancipación humana. Conceptos como la lucha de clases y la contradicción capital –trabajo, resultan irrefutables cuando analizamos la sociedad, su estructura y su composición profundamente desigual.

The Cinchona genus is important for humanity due to its ethnobotanical properties, and in particular its ability to prevent and treat malaria. However, there have been historical changes of Cinchona distribution in the tropical Andes that remain undocumented. In the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, several explorers recorded Cinchona precise localities in present-day Colombia and Ecuador, countries which harbour about half of the species of the genus, including C. officinalis. We compare historical and twentieth-century records to evaluate whether elevational ranges, mean elevation and latitude varied between the two periods. A large expansion of 662.5 m in average elevation for Cinchona and 792.5 m in elevational range for C. officinalis was found. These findings have implications for the conservation of economically important species and help us understand the impacts of the Anthropocene over time.

The aim of this review is to describe reported techniques and to provide available scientific data on the success of penis length procedures for cosmetic purposes. Penis lengthening methods remain a controversial issue. Penis size is a matter of great interest among men who are affected by 'small penis anxiety'' or just believe themselves to have a small penis, even though the dimensions of the organ fall within the normal range. We performed a narrative review of the literature based on a comprehensive search in the MEDLINE database for original articles published until March 2021, referring to lengthening approaches exclusively for aesthetical reasons. Abstracts, opinion papers and case series ≤10 patients were not considered. We included the results of 14 papers in the review that gathered the experience obtained in a total of 1661 patients. Four of the studies referred to non-surgical procedures for penile length augmentation (PLA) and the remaining 10 analyzed the results of invasive (surgical) procedures. Both invasive and non-invasive techniques achieve similar improvements in penis length. These procedures vary in complexity and require specialized training and experience. However, the low scientific quality of the analyzed papers makes it difficult to establish recommendations to choose one technique over any other. However, it seems reasonable that, if possible, non-invasive techniques should be proposed as a first-line treatment. Before deciding the procedure, we must carry out a correct psychological evaluation of our patients, discuss with them the technique of choice, and adjust their expectations.

In this paper, we study ad-nilpotent elements of semiprime rings R with involution $$*$$ whose indices of ad-nilpotence differ on $${{\,\mathrm{Skew}\,}}(R,*)$$ and R. The existence of such an ad-nilpotent element a implies the existence of a GPI of R, and determines a big part of its structure. When moving to the symmetric Martindale ring of quotients $$Q_m^s(R)$$ of R, a remains ad-nilpotent of the original indices in $${{\,\mathrm{Skew}\,}}(Q_m^s(R),*)$$ and $$Q_m^s(R)$$ . There exists an idempotent $$e\in Q_m^s(R)$$ that orthogonally decomposes $$a=ea+(1-e)a$$ and either ea and $$(1-e)a$$ are ad-nilpotent of the same index (in this case the index of ad-nilpotence of a in $${{\,\mathrm{Skew}\,}}(Q_m^s(R),*)$$ is congruent with 0 modulo 4), or ea and $$(1-e)a$$ have different indices of ad-nilpotence (in this case the index of ad-nilpotence of a in $${{\,\mathrm{Skew}\,}}(Q_m^s(R),*)$$ is congruent with 3 modulo 4). Furthermore, we show that $$Q_m^s(R)$$ has a finite $${\mathbb {Z}}$$ -grading induced by a $$*$$ -complete family of orthogonal idempotents and that $$eQ_m^s(R)e$$ , which contains ea, is isomorphic to a ring of matrices over its extended centroid. All this information is used to produce examples of these types of ad-nilpotent elements for any possible index of ad-nilpotence n.

Introducción: En la población geriátrica, el deterioro del estado nutricional afecta de forma negativa, el mantenimiento de la funcionalidad física y cognitiva, la sensación de bienestar y en general la calidad de vida. Objetivo: Describir la situación nutricional del adulto mayor y su relación con las enfermedades crónicas no transmisibles. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo transversal, en el Consultorio Médico de la Familia número 13 del policlínico ¨Luis Li Trigent¨, el universo estuvo constituido por 322 adultos mayores, se tomó una muestra no probabilística que quedó conformada por 97 adultos mayores, con enfermedades crónicas no transmisibles. Se estudiaron variables como: la edad, el sexo; el estado civil, los factores de riesgo; las enfermedades crónicas, el número de enfermedades y la valoración nutricional; se calculó el Índice de la masa corporal. Resultados: Predominaron los adultos mayores de 60 a 74 años, en un 52.57 %; el sexo femenino, el 32.98 %, el estado civil casados, un 42.26 %. El factor de riesgo de malnutrición más frecuente fue la polifarmacia, en 63.91 %, la enfermedad crónica más presente era la hipertensión arterial, 52.57 % y la valoración nutricional influyente el sobrepeso, en ancianos que presentaron de 2 a 3 enfermedades, 29.79 %. Conclusiones: El sobrepeso es el estado nutricional que prevalece en los adultos mayores, se asocia con las variables sociodemográficas y los factores de riesgo que describen la relación del proceso de envejecimiento y las enfermedades crónicas no transmisibles.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyse the presence of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) proposed by the UN (2015) in university degrees within the fields of education, humanities and environmental sciences (ES) at Andalusian public institutions (Spain). Design/methodology/approach This paper shows an empirical analysis from a mixed methodological model on a total of 99 syllabi and training programs from nine different universities. The collection of information has been carried out through a rubric specifically designed within the framework of this body of research. Findings The results show that the syllabus of the subjects in the faculties of education includes the SDGs related to the social aspect of sustainability, with special focus on SDG4, SDG5, SDG10, SDG16 and SDG17, whereas others like SDG6 and SDG7 are less represented. SDGs are present in the majority of syllabus of the subjects analysed. It is certainly a positive finding which shows predisposition and a high interest on by the teachers involved. However, this is not enough as there is still a long way to go until achieving a thorough and complete incorporation of the principles of sustainability. Originality/value This research sheds light on the changes and transformations that the discourse linked to sustainability is generating in the university syllabi. Taking the SDG as a framework this paper highlights the most original aspects: a replicable methodology that allows diagnosing the level of curricular greening of the university syllabi is provided to other contexts the innovative value of connecting teaching with local and global environmental problems in their physical-chemical social and economic dimensions is shown and it has been possible to compare the difficulties of some universities in addressing compliance with the SDGs and curricular sustainability from a systemic and integrative perspective that will lead to methodological transformation and pedagogical renewal.

Background Frailty is a geriatric syndrome that entails high risk of hospitalization, disability, and death. While adherence to Mediterranean diet has been associated with lower risk of frailty, the joint effect of diet and lifestyle is uncertain. This study examined the association between a Mediterranean lifestyle (diet, customs, and traditions) and frailty incidence in older adults. Methods We analyzed data from 1 880 individuals aged ≥ 60 from the prospective Seniors-ENRICA-1 cohort. Adherence to the Mediterranean lifestyle was assessed at baseline with the 27-item MEDLIFE index (higher scores representing better adherence), divided into 3 blocks: (1) “Mediterranean food consumption,” (2) “Mediterranean dietary habits” (practices around meals),” and (3) “Physical activity, rest, social habits and conviviality.” Frailty was ascertained as the presence of ≥ 3 of the 5 Fried criteria: (a) Exhaustion; (b) Muscle weakness; (c) Low physical activity; (d) Slow walking speed; and (e) Unintentional weight loss. Main statistical analyses were performed using logistic regression models, adjusting for the main confounders. Results After a 3.3-year follow-up, 136 incident frailty cases were ascertained. Compared with participants in the lowest tertile of the MEDLIFE score, the OR (95% CI) for frailty was 0.88 (0.58–1.34) for the second tertile, and 0.38 (0.21–0.69) for the third tertile (p-trend = .003). Blocks 1 and 3 of the MEDLIFE score were independently associated with lower frailty risk. Most items within these blocks showed a tendency to reduced frailty. Conclusions Higher adherence to a Mediterranean lifestyle was associated with lower risk of frailty.

La investigación aborda experiencias sobre la atención a las personas con necesidades educativas especiales, asociadas o no a discapacidades, desde la relación que se establece entre los contextos escolar, familiar y comunitario. Se desarrolla en el municipio Bayamo a través de talleres de socialización e involucramiento, en los que se considera como elementos esenciales, la retroalimentación que debe existir entre la escuela, la familia y la comunidad como agentes potenciadores del desarrollo y de valores para la vida. Se logra la sensibilización de estos agentes para comprender la diversidad como valor enriquecedor y positivo para todos, desde el respeto, la tolerancia, empatía y la igualdad de oportunidades, respetando básicamente su condición como ser humano, que garantice además de inclusión educativa y la plena inclusión en la sociedad.

Teachers play a key role in the construction of a more equal, fairer and sustainable world. Incorporating education for sustainable consumption into teacher training should therefore be a priority. This education should aim to develop students’ awareness of environmental issues, to encourage lifestyle changes, and to promote reducing their personal ecological footprint (EF). Training processes will hence lead to active learning approaches promoting critical thinking about production and consumption patterns, linking the curriculum content to real life, and involving students in activities that reduce their EF. This paper presents research carried out at three Spanish faculties of education. The main goal is to analyse the relationship between active teaching and learning strategies, and the reduction of the students’ individual EF. Pre- and post-test questionnaires were used to collect data. A total of 93 primary education degree students took part in this study. The results show the students’ individual EF decreased at the end of the learning processes. This proves that active teaching and learning strategies can foster sustainable consumption habits, and more sustainable lifestyles in general, in student teachers. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

We compared the effect of two community-based physical activity (PA) programs on health-related quality of life (HRQL) and physical condition in people with cardiovascular risk factors. Fifty-one subjects participated in the “ACTIVA Murcia” AM3 program characterized by non-individualized training loads for 3 months, and forty-two participated in the AM6 program characterized by individualized progressive training loads for 6 months. Both programs included a 6-month follow-up period without PA. HRQL was assessed with the Short Form 36 Health Survey (SF-36) and physical condition by VO2 max, strength, flexibility, and balance. Participants in the AM6 program as compared with those in the AM3 program showed significantly higher scores in the subscales of physical functioning, mental health, energy/vitality, and general health. Mental health and general health at 6 months of follow-up were also scored significantly higher by AM6 participants. VO2 max and flexibility improved more in the AM6 group, whereas strength was better in the AM3 group. Half of the participants in the AM6 program expressed a strong willingness to continue exercising vs. 38% in the AM3 program. In this study, a community-based PA program with individualized progressive training loads of 6-month duration showed a more favorable impact on HRQL than a 3-month non-individualized PA program.

Regular light cigarette consumption (light smoking) is increasing in many countries; however, few studies have assessed its impact on mortality. The main aim of this study is to estimate the association between the number of cigarettes consumed and all-cause mortality in Spain while focusing on light smoking.Longitudinal study based on data from 42,902 individuals aged ≥15 years included in the 2011-2012 (Spanish) National Health Survey or the 2014 European Health Survey for Spain. Data were linked with the mortality registry up to December 2020. Multivariate Cox regression models were used to estimate hazard ratios (HR) adjusted for sociodemographic variables, lifestyle factors, and health status indicators.Compared to never smokers, the mortality HR for nondaily smokers was 1.30 (95% CI: 0.81-2.09), increasing to 2.23 (95% CI: 1.25-3.96) among those smoking 1-2 cigarettes/d, and to 1.54 (95%CI: 1.14-2.07) for consumers of 3-5 cigarettes/day. When individuals who reported trying to quit during the previous year were excluded, resulting HRs were 1.31 (95% CI: 0.81-2.10), 1.48 (95% CI: 0.69-3.19) and 1.64 (95% CI: 1.16-2.34), respectively.Compared to never smokers, consumers of small quantities of tobacco, that is, light smoking, had an increased mortality risk. In view of these results, we suggest the need for awareness-raising campaigns regarding how smoking even a small number of cigarettes a day causes serious harm to one´s health.

Chronic gut inflammation in Crohn’s disease (CD) is associated with an increase in oxidative stress and an imbalance of antioxidant enzymes. We have previously shown that catalase (CAT) activity is permanently inhibited by CD. The purpose of the study was to determine whether there is any relationship between the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the CAT enzyme and the potential risk of CD associated with high levels of oxidative stress. Additionally, we used protein and regulation analyses to determine what causes long-term CAT inhibition in peripheral white mononuclear cells (PWMCs) in both active and inactive CD. We first used a retrospective cohort of 598 patients with CD and 625 age-matched healthy controls (ENEIDA registry) for the genotype analysis. A second human cohort was used to study the functional and regulatory mechanisms of CAT in CD. We isolated PWMCs from CD patients at the onset of the disease (naïve CD patients). In the genotype-association SNP analysis, the CAT SNPs rs1001179, rs475043, and rs525938 showed a significant association with CD (p < 0.001). Smoking CD patients with the CAT SNP rs475043 A/G genotype had significantly more often penetrating disease (p = 0.009). The gene expression and protein levels of CAT were permanently reduced in the active and inactive CD patients. The inhibition of CAT activity in the PWMCs of the CD patients was related to a low concentration of CAT protein caused by the downregulation of CAT-gene transcription. Our study suggests an association between CAT SNPs and the risk of CD that may explain permanent CAT inhibition in CD patients together with low CAT gene and protein expression.

Testimonis als quals s’afegeixen algunes obres realitzades per l’artista com a gènere temàtic o com a detall amb la presència d’instruments musicals. L’estudi mostra la sensibilitat d’Andreu per la música, la relació que establí amb els músics, així com una breu síntesi sobre la febre per l’espanyolisme que es va viure en aquest període marcat per la recuperació nacionalista i que influí en la producció creativa de molts artistes contemporanis a l’artista català.

Introducción: El suicidio es un problema complejo en el que intervienen factores psicológicos, sociales, biológicos, culturales y ambientales, constituye la segunda causa de defunción, en el grupo de 10 a 24 años. Objetivo: Describir los niveles de actitud de riesgo hacia el intento suicida y el funcionamiento familiar, en adolescentes. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo de corte transversal, en adolescentes del Policlínico Dr. ¨Luis Li Trigent¨ que realizaron intento suicida, en el periodo comprendido entre enero 2017 a enero 2018. El universo de estudio quedó constituido por 27 adolescentes, con antecedentes de intentos suicidas, en el periodo de estudio. Se confeccionaron planillas y encuestas para dar salida a los objetivos propuestos, las variables estudiadas fueron: la etapa de la adolescencia, el sexo, los conflictos personales, el método empleado, la actitud de riesgo y el funcionamiento familiar. Resultados: Predominó el sexo femenino en la adolescencia intermedia, con 12 pacientes para un 44.44 %, las malas relaciones con los padres con 40.74 %. El método empleado más frecuente fue la ingestión de tabletas con un 62.96 %. La categoría de riesgo bajo, 59.25 % y las familias disfuncionales con 33.33 %. Conclusiones: Sobresalen los adolescentes en la etapa intermedia que tipifican un nivel de riesgo bajo para el intento suicida a predominio del sexo femenino. Se destacan los que conviven en un funcionamiento familiar disfuncional.

Este trabajo determina qué elementos influyen en la potencial propensión a actuar (PA) a la hora de emprender desde una perspectiva de género del alumnado universitario. Se ha realizado a partir del Modelo del Evento Emprendedor de Shapero y Sokol (1982) y las investigaciones empíricas de Liñán y Chen (2009) sobre la modelización de variables para medir la PA con el fin de emprender. Se suministró un cuestionario al alumnado de último curso del Grado de Relaciones Laborales y Recursos Humanos de la Universidad de Sevilla, entre los años académicos 2012-2013 a 2019-2020, obteniéndose un total de 663 respuestas. Los resultados evidencian que existen similitudes y diferencias entre la PA del alumnado. En el caso de las variables que influyen en la PA de hombres y mujeres se encuentran la conveniencia percibida (CP), la percepción de viabilidad (PV) y el hecho de tener una persona progenitora emprendedora. Entre las que se identifican diferencias destacan, la deseabilidad de ser persona emprendedora y algunas capacidades específicas. Esta investigación pone de relieve la importancia de adaptar la educación emprendedora a los distintos perfiles de alumnado en una universidad. This work determines which elements influence the potential Propensity to act for entrepreneurship (PA) of university students from a gender perspective. Based on Shapero and Sokol's (1982) Model of the Entrepreneurial Event and Liñán and Chen's (2009) empirical research on modelling variables to measure the propensity to act for entrepreneurship, a questionnaire was administered to a total of 663 student respondents. The results showed that there are similarities and differences between student's PA. In the case of the variables that influence the PA of men and women, we found the perceived convenience, the perception of viability and having an entrepreneurial parent. Among those that differed between both sexes, the desirability of being an entrepreneurial person and some specific abilities stood out. This research highlights the importance of adapting entrepreneurial training to each student.

The novel nitrosyl-bridged complex [W2Cp2(μ-PtBu2)(μ-κ:η-NO)(CO)(NO)](BAr4) [Ar = 3,5-C6H3(CF3)2] was prepared in a multistep procedure starting from the hydride [W2Cp2(μ-H)(μ-PtBu2)(CO)4] and involving the new complexes [W2Cp2(μ-PtBu2)(CO)4](BF4), [W2Cp2(μ-PtBu2)(CO)2(NO)2](BAr4), and [W2(μ-κ:η5-C5H4)Cp(μ-PtBu2)(CO)(NO)2] as intermediates, which follow from reactions with HBF4·OEt2, NO, and Me3NO·2H2O, respectively. The nitrosyl-bridged cation easily added chloride upon reaction with [N(PPh3)2]Cl, with concomitant NO rearrangement into the terminal coordination mode, to give [W2ClCp2(μ-PtBu2)(CO)(NO)2], and underwent N–O and W–W bond cleavages upon the addition of CNtBu to give the mononuclear phosphinoimido complex [WCp(NPtBu2)(CNtBu)2](BAr4). Another N–O bond cleavage was induced upon photochemical decarbonylation at 243 K, which gave the oxo- and phosphinito-bridged nitrido complex [W2Cp2(N)(μ-O)(μ-OPtBu2)(NO)](BAr4), likely resulting from a N–O bond cleavage step following decarbonylation., We thank the MICINN of Spain and FEDER for financial support (Projects PGC2018-097366-B-I00 and -PGC2018-093451B-I00).

Children who show better eating practices are less likely to suffer from severe caries than those who eat a diet rich in sugars. In the present study, we aimed to establish the relationship between the severity of dental caries and adherence to the Mediterranean diet. A cross-sectional study was carried out in which 263 children aged 2 to 14 years old were examined intraorally to analyze the presence and severity of caries. Children’s parents/caregivers completed the KIDMED questionnaire to determine their degree of adherence to the Mediterranean diet. The results showed that the prevalence of caries is greater than 80% in children with medium or low adherence to the Mediterranean diet, and remains significant at 67% in the high adherence group (p = 0.010). A statistically significant negative correlation of weak magnitude (r = −0.29; p < 0.001) was found between adherence and the number of carious teeth. Caries severity in the first molars is also influenced by adherence to the diet in a statistically significant way. In conclusion, there is an association between adherence to the Mediterranean diet and the prevalence, extension, and severity of caries in the pediatric population.

The eco-social crisis urges the transformation of teacher training programmes. It is imperative for educators to be able to respond to global challenges. This transformation involves working from new perspectives that integrate assessment processes focused on eco-social justice and inclusion from a broad perspective. Bearing this in mind, a training process focused on the theoretical construction of assessment practice from the perspective of Education for Sustainability and Inclusive Education was designed. It is framed within the context of the Master’s Degree in Educational Research for Teachers’ Professional Development. The study presented, which is of a qualitative and interpretative nature, focuses on knowing the impact of the process in the progression of the participating students’ ideas and knowledge construction. The students’ group work, two questionnaires of a different nature and a teaching journal, were used to collect data. Likewise, an ad hoc analysis system was developed that allowed transforming and interpreting the data obtained. The results show progress in the ideas and knowledge of the students in aspects related to the socio-environmental and ethical dimension of the assessment, integrating the principles of Education for Sustainability and Inclusive Education in the design of assessment activities in the classroom. The results reflect that the developed training process has influenced the complexity of the ideas of the students with regard to the content worked on. The proposal could hence serve as a reference for other training processes that have similar characteristics.

Los grandes cambios estructurales en el sector público, originados por importantes factores tales como la liberación, la competencia global, las discontinuidades tecnológicas o las cambiantes expectativas de los ciudadanos, plantean nuevos retos a la gestión pública. Las antiguas recetas ya no funcionan, ahora marca pauta el desempeño ético y moral. Los líderes gubernamentales están aspirando posicionarse mejorando su desempeño, están dejando atrás los enfoques estratégicos tradicionales retomando los valores como ariete para marcar el camino con el desenvolvimiento ético. Buscan nuevas formas para finar el rumbo en un entorno turbulento. Los académicos enfrentados a la misma realidad cuestionan igualmente la validez de ciertos comportamientos políticos, como las herramientas estratégicas para la competitividad. Ante la pérdida el rumbo por la carencia de un paradigma ético, coherente y valioso, al parecer la gestión pública ha decidido dedicar su atención en materializar ideas para la concreción de una ética gubernamental. Estas virtudes se pueden trasmitir a toda una gestión orientada hacia el exterior, pero dependiente de la plena implicación de cada una de las personas que la conforman. Una gestión pública exitosa, está fundamentada ante todo por la ética, persiguiendo la creación y el mantenimiento de habilidades morales y valores.

Overfitting is a common problem in the development of predictive models. It leads to an optimistic estimation of apparent model performance. Internal validation using bootstrapping techniques allows one to quantify the optimism of a predictive model and provide a more realistic estimate of its performance measures. Our objective is to build an easy-to-use command, bsvalidation, aimed to perform a bootstrap internal validation of a logistic regression model.

The early identification of type 2 diabetic (T2D) patients at risk of developing coronary artery disease (CAD) remains a challenge. The coronary artery calcium score (CACs) is considered the most sensitive tool for assessing CAD risk in diabetic population, and the identification of a more targeted population in which the CACs would be more cost-efficient seems warranted. The accumulation of advanced glycation end products plays an important role in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with diabetes. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the assessment of skin autofluorescence (SAF) could be useful tool to identify those diabetic patients in whom CACs assessment should be prioritized. Prospective case–control study, comprising 156 subjects with T2D with no history of clinical CVD and 52 non-diabetic subjects matched by age. A value of CACs ≥ 400 Agatston Units (AU) was considered as “high CVD risk.” Logistic regression analysis to predict a CACs ≥ 400 AU was performed. Sensibility and specificity were calculated using the optimal cutoff point based on ROC curve. T2D patients had higher value of SAF compared to controls (p = 0.011). Previous studies have shown the benefits of group therapeutic songwriting (GTSW) in the quality of life and well-being of caregivers of people with dementia. The objective of this study was to explore the experience of caregivers in a collaborative process of songwriting. Twenty-one caregivers divided into three groups received 12 60-min GTSW sessions led by a qualified music therapist. Inductive thematic analysis was used to analyze open-question questionnaires, a focus group, the last session video, and song lyrics. Four themes emerged: (1) GTSW generates a sense of connection, (2) it is a motivating, empowering, and meaningful experience, (3) it promotes emotional connection in a personal space, and (4) it increases well-being. Qualitative findings suggest that GTSW is a therapeutic tool that promotes caregivers’ connectivity, expression of emotions, and well-being. Limitations and suggestions for future research are discussed.

Background Although some components of the Mediterranean diet have shown benefits in pain risk through its anti-inflammatory/antioxidant properties, no population-based studies have investigated the effect of adherence to this diet on changes in pain over time. Methods We used data from 864 and 862 older adults recruited in the Seniors-ENRICA-1 and Seniors-ENRICA-2 cohorts and followed-up for 2.8 and 2.4 years, respectively. Adherence to the Mediterranean diet was assessed with the MEDAS score at baseline. Frequency, severity, and locations of pain obtained at baseline and follow-up were used to compute a pain scale. Analyses were performed using multinomial logistic regression models, and adjusted for the main confounders. Results Participants had a mean (SD) age of 71.5 (5.1) years, 36.8% were men, and 78.3% had chronic conditions. In the pooled cohorts, compared with participants in the lowest quartile of the MEDAS score (lowest adherence to the Mediterranean diet), those in the highest quartile showed a higher frequency of pain improvement versus worsening (relative risk ratio [95% confidence interval]: 1.43 [1.03, 1.99]). This association was also evidenced in 2 components of the pain scale: improvement in pain severity (1.43 [1.01, 2.04]) and reduction in pain locations (1.54 [1.08, 2.20]), but a tendency to pain frequency improvement (1.34 [0.92, 1.93]) was also observed. The main contributors to these associations were high consumption of fruit and vegetables, and low consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages. Conclusions A higher adherence to the Mediterranean diet was related to a subsequent improvement in pain characteristics in older adults, suggesting that improving diet quality may help reduce the high health impact of pain.
