Introduction and Material: Over a two-year period, a total of 23 children (13 males and 11 females) entered in the Unit of Infantile Neurology of our hospital affections of diverse types of cerebral seizures, were subjected to follow-up study prospective from the point of view medical and social, analyzing the characteristic and situation of their family environment., Results and Conclusions: Between the outputs, they have met important differences between the attitude in front of the problem of the several family groups, according to it's valued for the doctor or for the Unit of Social Work. They have not met differences between the attitude in front of the problem and the economical status associate referred to the profession, the instruction or the housing of the parents. The severity of the illness has not been the only factor in the integration psychosocial of the children with seizures, existing other factors of environmental character that rebound same on the medium. The disorders of the psychotic sphere was those that were affected with an old intensity.

In the adult, the primary infection by the varicella-zoster virus acquires an unusual severity due to several complications, the most frequent of them being pneumonia. The authors analyze the clinical, epidemiological, serological and radiological data of the only two cases of varicellous pneumonia in the adult at a general hospital during the past 5 years. They highlight as the main characteristics: easiness of diagnosis, dissociation between clinical and radiological signs and the excellent therapeutical response to the early administration of intravenous Aciclovir. They comment as well the risk factors of this complication and the criteria for hospitalization.

This study describes the content, fatty acid composition and [2-3H]glycerol metabolism of phosphatidic acid of rod outer segment membranes from vertebrate retinas. A relatively high content of phosphatidic acid was observed in rod outer segment membranes isolated from rat, toad and bovine retinas. In bovine retinas, about 65% of the acyl groups of phosphatidic acid were composed of docosahexaenoate. Arachidonate and docosapentaenoate represented about 4 and 5%, respectively, of the total, whereas stearate was the most common saturated acyl chain. An active [2-3H]glycerol metabolism in the phosphatidic acid of these membranes was found when whole retinas were incubated with the precursor for short periods prior to subcellular fractionation. Our results suggested that the pool of phosphatidic acid enriched in docosahexaenoate may arise from de novo biosynthesis or from phospholipid degradation by a phospholipase D enzyme, and that it is not metabolically related, in any major fashion, to the diacylglycerols of rod outer segment membranes.
