PROTESTANTISM , *INTERNATIONAL relations , *ECUMENICAL movement , *RACE , *PROTESTANT history , *PROTESTANTS ,FOREIGN relations of the United States - Abstract
Historians now recognize the political significance the Protestant ecumenical movement of the early twentieth century. American ecumenists contributed to the architecture of international organization and were among the first to promote a global discourse of human rights, and ecumenical plans for world order were designed for the peaceful spread of national self-determination and to combat racial prejudice. Ecumenical missionaries were at the forefront in reconceiving race relations, globally as well as in the United States. But the overriding ecumenical concern was the creep of secularism, which, despite their modernism and liberalism, ecumenists saw as the root of all evil. In 1945, when forced to choose between their vision of world peace as secured through international organization and their desire for racial equality, ecumenists sacrificed the latter so as to protect religious liberty and advance the Protestant interest. Ironically, despite their longstanding criticisms, ecumenists had to accept the dictates of national sovereignty for the sake of religious universalism. The contours of the liberal international system that resulted from this compromise remain to this day. In addition to primary-source research, this article is based on a synthesis of a tsunami of recent secondary literature on liberal Protestant internationalism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CHRISTIAN union ,ECUMENICAL movement - Abstract
This article considers the ecumenical significance of Saint John Henry Newman's theology for Anglicanism. It notes Newman's reservations about Anglicanism after 1845 and Anglican suspicion of Newman's work until recently. It argues that in three areas – his understanding of Catholicity, authority and the laity – Anglicans still need to learn from Newman. This is anchored in his organic view of faith, and in the associated notions of dynamic Catholicity and spiritual ecumenism. The article concludes that the canonization, for Anglicans, is justified by Newman's status as a modern doctor of the Church. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

207. Convergence of Evangelism and Interfaith Dialogue: A Missional Reflection

The promotion of religious freedom and the general pervasion of pluralism across the globe necessitate the need for Christians to review how they evangelize among people of other faiths and those of no faith. One of the mechanisms that has gained prominence in this regard is the promotion of the concept of interfaith dialogue. This article examines areas of convergence between this concept and evangelism through literature study. Following an interpretive approach, the study determined that both concepts have a distinctive but complementary relationship, both promote mutual respect and consider intercultural communication and contextualization. Written from the Christian faith perspective, the article argues that both evangelism and interfaith dialogue could be used by Christians to further God’s mission in contemporary society. As interfaith dialogue promotes neighborliness, the article recommends that it should be embraced by adherents of all faiths. As it has been written from the perspective of the Christian faith, it further recommends that while evangelical witness should be done with respect for other faiths, evangelizers should not neglect the worth of the commission received from Jesus Christ. These recommendations and those from empirical studies conducted on this topic should be tested through further studies in various contexts. This paper seeks to contribute to existing knowledge in interfaith dialogue and evangelism in the sub-discipline of missiology.

- Abstract
Written by experts from within their communities, this book compares the legal regimes of Christian churches as systems of religious law. The ecumenical movement, with its historical theological focus, has failed to date to address the role of church law in shaping relations between churches and fostering greater mutual understanding between them. In turn, theologians and jurists from the different traditions have not hitherto worked together on a fully ecumenical appreciation of the potential value of church laws to help, and sometimes to hinder, the achievement of greater Christian unity. This book seeks to correct this ecumenical church law deficit. It takes account of the recent formulation by an ecumenical panel of a Statement of Principles of Christian Law, which has been welcomed by Pope Francis and the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, leader of the Orthodox Church worldwide, as recognizing the importance of canon law for ecumenical dialogue. This book, therefore, not only provides the fruits of an understanding of church laws within ten Christian traditions, but also critically evaluates the Statement against the laws of these individual ecclesial communities. The book will be an essential resource for scholars of law and religion, theology, and sociology. It will also be of interest to those working in religious institutions and policy-makers.

- Abstract
The pentecostal openness to the presence of the Holy Spirit can be understood in terms of the analogy with the Trinitarian personhood as a mode of the individual participation in the life of the Triune God. This links the pentecostal understanding of the Holy Spirit with the koinonia-ecclesiology of the ecumenical multilateral dialogue. The current understanding of the ecumenical koinonia-ecclesiology is modelled by the life of the Trinity and formed by the sacramental participation of the church in the life of the Triune God. In this way, Pentecostalism can find its access to the eucharistic-sacramental understanding of unity of the church. Conversely, this is also enriching for the multilateral ecumenical koinonia-discourse. The participation in the koinonia with the Triune God includes not only the dimension of the eucharistic fellowship, but also the dimension of the direct personal orientation of Christians toward the presence of the Holy Spirit.

- Abstract
Paulos Mar Gregorios (1922–1996) was both a leading figure of the ecumenical movement and one of the most renowned representatives of the St Thomas Christians of India in the 20th century. His life and work can be seen as paradigmatic of an evolving ecumenical as well as global age. In the countless theological, philosophical, and political discourses that he influenced, he distinguished himself as an'Eastern'thinker. At first glance, this seems to contradict the ecumenical and global character of his life and work. The present study shows the person and his work as an example of how global dialogue about unity can lead to a process of imagination and thus emancipation of one's own identity.

- Abstract
Churches vary a great deal - but can we see past all their differences to what underlies them?'Generous orthodoxy'is a phrase that describes a Christianity both broad and deep, rooted in the historic creeds and embracing different expressions of Christian faith. The Bond of Peace is a ground-breaking, creative and practical exploration of what generous orthodoxy really means, and how expressing it might bring about a sense of unity in the church that is badly needed in our fractured and polarised world. Drawing together leading theologians from the UK and the USA - including David Ford, Katherine Sonderegger, Willie Jennings, Tom Greggs, JKA Smith and Jane Williams - The Bond of Peace offers reflections on how generous orthodoxy can be expressed through everything from worship and preaching to biblical theology, the arts and more.Based around a series of lectures held at St Mellitus College, and sponsored by the McDonald Agape Foundation, this timely book is essential reading for anyone interested in how the Christian Church can bridge the gap between denominations to negotiate the challenges of our 21st century world in a united manner. It will leave you, not only with a deeper understanding of generous orthodoxy, but the practical confidence to celebrate and embrace the differences in Christian denominations so we can all live together more joyfully - through the transforming and renewing work of the Holy Spirit.

[Ecumenism in Motion. New Perspectives in Research] Currently, the framework conditions for ecumenical practice are subject to a high dynamic on the one hand, while on the other hand ecumenical stagnation is deplored. In this situation, the present volume looks for new beginnings. Predominantly younger voices contribute new approaches, react to current challenges and developments, and generate resonances in concrete fields of ecumenical practice. The methodological and factual orientation of ecumenism is often put to the test and the dynamics of worldwide religious, political and social shifts are questioned as to their consequences for the future of ecumenism.

- Abstract
'I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one--as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me'(John 17:20-21, NLT). For most Christians these words of Jesus seem like an unreachable ideal. Or they promise spiritual unity without a visible demonstration between real people. Some even read these words with a sense of fear seeing this text used for a compromise agenda. How should we understand this prayer offered for all who follow Jesus? What if Jesus really intended for the world to'believe'the gospel on the basis of looking at Christians who live deep unity in a shared relationship with him? What if there is way of understanding what Jesus desired so that we can begin anew to tear down the many walls of division that keep the world from seeing God's love in us? Is our oneness much bigger and deeper than we could imagine? John Armstrong has devoted three decades to the work of Christian unity. His story and ministry have encouraged many around the world and now they are reflected in this memoir of a life devoted to unity.

- Abstract
The Oxford Handbook of Ecumenical Studies is an unparalleled compendium of ecumenical history, information and reflection. With essay contributions by nearly fifty experts in their various fields, and edited by two leading international scholars, the Handbook is a major resource for all who are involved or interested in ecumenical work for reconciliation between Christians and for the unity of the Church. Its six main sections consider, respectively, the different phases of the history of the ecumenical movement from the mid-nineteenth century to the present; the ways in which leading Christian churches and traditions, Orthodox, Anglican, Methodist, Catholic, Lutheran, Reformed, Baptist, and Pentecostal, have engaged with and contributed to the movement; the achievements of ecumenical dialogue in key areas of Christian doctrine, such as Christology and ecclesiology, baptism, Eucharist and ministry, morals and mission, and the issues that remain outstanding; various ecumenical agencies and instruments, such as covenants and dialogues, the World Council of Churches, the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and the Global Christian Forum; the progress and difficulties of ecumenism in different countries, areas and continents of the world, the UK and the USA, Africa, Asia, South America, Europe, and the Middle East, ; and finally two all-important questions are considered by scholars from various traditions: what would Christian unity look like and what is the best method for seeking it? This is a remarkably comprehensive account and assessment of one of the most outstanding features of Christian history, namely the modern ecumenical movement.

His critique of evangelical biblicism as intellectually vapid does not reference the nuanced biblical scholarship - and calls for racial justice and social concern - that many evangelical seminaries and colleges are currently producing. But some pockets of evangelical higher education notwithstanding, Hollinger's critique of American white evangelicalism as a whole may not be as far off the mark as many evangelicals (myself included) might wish. But as a whole, he insists, evangelicalism is a threat to American democracy - a threat that is all the more upsetting because evangelicals exercise disproportionate control over American politics in a nation that is increasingly secular. For those of us who have lived through the past 70 years as hopeful ecumenists in search of a solution to the vexed questions dividing these two Christian communions, this series of essays provides welcome insights into the reasons for the collapse of the Anglican-Methodist Union scheme of the 1960s, with the consequent waning of ecumenical enthusiasm and growing disillusionment. The lessons of living with anomalies which the scheme for the formation of the Church of South India had raised were learned with difficulty within the context of an established Church of England. Dr Jooseop Keum, general secretary of the Council for World Mission, held as part of the thematic plenary on "Christian Unity and Churches' Common Witness" on Weds September 7th, during the 11th Assembly of the World Council of Churches, in Karlsruhe, Germany. This article starts from the theology of the Tanzanian-born Charles Nyamiti (1931–2020), as one of the most creative in his generation of African theologians. Nyamiti proposed that ancestral veneration is a foundational human relationship which reflects divine realities. Thus, he proposed an understanding of the Trinity where the Father is the Ancestor, the Son is the Descendant, and the Holy Spirit is the mutual Oblation connecting the two. Because an ancestor does not exist as an ancestor without sacred ritual communication, the Holy Spirit becomes thus absolutely necessary for the Godhead. We maintain that Nyamiti's ancestral approach describes an African logic of gift-giving. Translating his theological contribution into gift-language preserves the theological insights while solving some of the logical problems with the ancestral imaginary, such as how the Father who never died is supposed to be the Ancestor. Through gift-language, Nyamiti's theological insights, which are based on African relational ontologies, become more readily applicable in World Christianity and have potential to transform ecumenism into a vibrant and inclusive embodied pneumatic action for abundant life. In other words, Nyamiti's theological heritage invites theologians to envision Christian faith beyond the confines of Hellenistic-based philosophy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Thousands of Protestant churches are perplexed by plateaued or declining attendance, while other congregations nearby thrive. Is there a way for them to combine forces, drawing on both their strengths, in ways that also increase their missional impact? In Better Together, Expanded and Updated: Making Church Mergers Work, church merger consultant Jim Tomberlin and award-winning writer Warren Bird make the case that mergers today work best not with two struggling churches but with a vital, momentum-filled lead church partnering with a joining church. This much-needed resource describes the range of mergers for strong, stable, stuck, and struggling churches. No matter what type of merger a church may be considering, the authors address key questions about the process: How can a merger help a church go forward? How will a merger process unfold? Where can a declining church find another congregation to join? What are the pitfalls that both pastor and congregation should avoid? How can'better together'lead to more, rather than fewer, life-giving, high-impact, reproducing churches? They provide a complete, practical, hands-on guide for church leaders of both struggling and vibrant churches, so they can understand the issues, develop strategies, and execute mergers for church expansion and renewal--ultimately, so they can reinvigorate declining churches and give them a'second life.'No matter what your motivation for merging your church with another--to begin a new church life cycle, cross racial lines, reach more people for Christ, multiply your church's impact, or better serve your local community--Better Together will give you the tools you need to create a thriving new entity.

- Abstract
This volume differs from many quincentennial discussions of the Protestant Reformation--and ecumenical scholarship more generally--in that it shifts the focus from Europe and the West to the global South, where ecumenism's promises and challenges are quite different. In postcolonial and post-missionary Africa, the churches continue to expand, competition among denominations is lively, and Christian rivalry with Islam is often a reality. In Latin America, Protestants have severely eroded the Catholic Church's hegemony, originally forged in the zeal of the Counter-Reformation to combat the perceived errors of Luther and Calvin. In India, the Christian churches are a tiny, beleaguered minority facing an increasingly militant Hindu nationalism. These essays pay close attention to the different contexts of intra-Christian relationships worldwide--the actual situation on the ground. If ecumenism will succeed, it cannot be simply a matter of experts at a conference attempting to agree about doctrines abstracted from the contexts in which they were forged, the contexts in which doctrinal disagreements caused ecclesial ruptures, or the contexts in which Christians continue to live out our divided existence. This volume attempts to be sensitive to the lived experience of divided Christians in whatever part of the world they find themselves.

The Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification which is considered to be‘a milestone on the journey of ecumenism'has a very significant place in the theological-ecumenical realm since it hoped to overcome the disunity betweenthe protestant Churches and the Catholic Church at large. This work analyzesand redefines the JDDJ from a Pentecostal perspective, and proposes a newPentecostal view of ecumenism for this century. The major questions that areconsidered here are: what is the ecumenical and ecclesiastical significance of thisJoint Declaration in the 21st century, what are the neglected theological elementsin the Joint Declaration, what are the controversial issues connected to the JDDJand what challenge can it give to the present world of Christianity?.The JDDJ has become a basis for theological agreement and further discussions. This study also brings out ecumenical and theological understandings of thePentecostal Church and substantiates the Pentecostal assessment of theJDDJ. The first chapter has two parts: the first part explains the research topic, methodology and the importance of the research; and the second part gives anoutline of the Pentecostal movement and its theology mainly with regard to thedoctrine of justification. The second chapter deals primarily with the significantstages and influences that helped for the formation of JDDJ. The last part ofthis chapter explains the responses of other churches to the JDDJ. The thirdchapter presents a Pentecostal response to the JDDJ, which starts with a positiveevaluation and will be followed by a negative response to the same. The fourthchapter expounds the development of a paradigm model for the ecumenicalthinking of the 21st century from a Pentecostal point of view. The Proposed slogan for this century can be “back to Pentecost” and be unitedin the love and power of the Holy Spirit. Because it is said that Pentecostalexperience of the 1st-century Christianity has had a true Ecumenism, which wassomehow lost in the long run. Nevertheless, methodological shifts in the approachto ecumenism can still make a change. When such a step is taken, the goodnews of unity of Christians will become a reality. Only then one can say that thecondemnation of the 16th century regarding the doctrine of justification is invalid.

- Abstract
How do Christological Perspectives differ and which specific ways of witnessing Christ exist depending on cultural, geographical and confessional context in which they developed? Theologians from Africa, Asia, the Americas, the Middle East, Oceania and Europe discuss these questions focussing on the missiological implications of various contextual Christologies. They aim to answer the question if contextual and confessional provenience coins the epistemological preconditions in a way that creates, shapes and secures peculiar identities.

- Abstract

- Abstract
After the birth of the Protestant ecumenical movement in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and following the first great wave of universal Christian ecumenism in the 1960s and 1970s after the Second Vatican Council, prominent theologians of nearly every ecclesial tradition charted new territory in the last decades of the twentieth century. They crossed boundaries within their own ecclesial traditions and built bridges to other Christian churches--churches that were once excluded from fellowship. In the development of these new programs of ecumenical theology, the theologians redefined their own confessional identities and, in many cases, crossed the liberal-conservative divide within their own traditions. This volume introduces this fascinating dynamic of theological mediation, redefinition, and generosity. It shows how the ecumenical impulses, which were directed outwardly to other traditions, had reflexive effects inwardly. Working in the realms of both historical and systematic theology, the essays in this volume provide a critical analysis of the history of this general theological sentiment and offer an outlook for its future. - Abstract
With Courage and Compassion celebrates the contributions of women to nations, societies, churches, and the ecumenical movement. Through creative forms of resistance and daring theological exploration, women have enriched and advanced theological discourse and called for transformations in within human relationships with one another and with the earth. The World Council of Churches (WCC) has, since its inception in 1948, responded to the call of women for recognition of their leadership and theological gifts with efforts at affirmation and inclusion. However, all is not well. Structures and processes that permit many forms of exclusion and even violence against women in societies in the church and the ecumenical movement persist. This book analyses what lies at the heart of the struggle women go through and why the vulnerability of women continues to be exploited. It calls for a new theological vision and political imagination to transform unjust attitudes and systems that still exist, particularly in the ecumenical movement.

The contribution looks at the phases of migration of Orthodox Christians to Germany. it then shows the spheres of practical cooperation arising from the presence of Orthodox Churches in Germany on such issues as handling of mixed marriages or the use of Protestant places of worship by Orthodox congregations, in a second step the idea that theological engagement with Orthodox theology can enrich the ecumenical dialogue and free Protestant theology from a one-sided fixation on the denominational counterpart of the Roman Catholic sister church is unfolded. This essay is a direct response to the theme of the 2021 Annual Conference of the North American Academy of Ecumenists, in that it seeks to answer the question, "What is dangerous about ecumenism?" Understanding the nature of this danger, and how professional ecumenists came to face and live with this danger in the past century, can prove instructive for addressing the ecumenical hazards of our present moment, so that Christians can learn to disagree "humanely and productively about public challenges with high stakes and real dangers." Specifically, it proposes intersubjective recognition as a tool that can help us better understand both the past of our ecumenical work and the present and future challenges of the ecumenical movement to come. Our contention was that ecumenism becomes stale when it becomes too safe—when it chooses to ponder the mechanics of institutional joinery between ecclesial bodies whose differences are nonthreatening rather than addressing the critical issues that often bitterly divide Christians today. Mainstream ecumenical work has moved from being a dangerous crossing of heated division and has become a tame, nonthreatening branch of theological and ecclesial practice—a means of achieving institutional proximity with Christians whom we basically already trust and recognize. If ecumenism becomes merely about working out corporate mergers or affiliations between different ecclesial entities that are themselves still undergoing bitter schisms, then it loses credibility. The article discusses the response to the review of the book "Dogmatic Ecclesiology Volume 1: The Priestly Catholicity of the Church". Rachel Muers' review of the book offers a tremendously perceptive account of the ecumenical horizons and possibilities of the book, as well as the extent to which the book flows against most ecclesiological work, especially in the ecumenical sphere. book's approach offers the theological foundations and precursor to the ecumenical project itself.

CHRISTIANITY , *MULTICULTURALISM , *LANGUAGE & culture , *ECUMENICAL movement , *CHRISTIAN union - Abstract
Christianity has from its beginning been global in principle, and for many centuries was so in practice. In the first six or seven centuries of Christian history, Christian presence spread across the greater part of the then known world – the vast landmass that constitutes Europe, Asia and Africa – and constituted a world Christianity which was multicentric, multilingual and multicultural. But the doctrinal disputes of the fifth century led to the alienation of large numbers of Coptic- and Syriac-speaking Christians from those who thought and spoke in Greek and Latin, and the ecumenical tragedy of the sixth century saw the great multicultural church divided along lines of language and culture. We are now in a new age of world Christianity – an even larger and more diverse reality than that of the first Christian centuries, but like it, multicentric, multilingual, multicultural. The acid test for Christianity in the twenty-first century will be whether the break-up of that first age of world Christianity can now be repaired. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article underlines the need for theological education to be ecumenical if it is to be genuine theological education, an injunction that applies to Orthodox churches as much as the Roman Catholic and Protestant churches. The article highlights the 1920 encyclical of the Ecumenical Patriarchate that encouraged "relationships between the theological schools and the professors of theology" but states that an exchange of professors and students is not enough, since studying theology under a confessional prism is often reducing and impoverishing. Drawing on experiences such as the Higher Institute of Ecumenical Studies in Paris and the Institute for Higher Studies in Orthodox Theology in Chambésy, Switzerland, the article asserts that it is desirable to undertake theology together, in an ecumenical way. ECUMENICAL movement , *THEOLOGICAL education , *CHRISTIANITY , *CHRISTIANS - Abstract
Theological education is facing a number of advances and setbacks. Among the advances are the globalization and transformation of Christianity, the evolution of communication tools, and the striving for formal theological education by groups that customarily shunned it as well as a generalized awareness for the contextuality of theological education. Setbacks can be seen in the reconfessionalization of theological education in many parts of the world and the end of significant ecumenical initiatives as well as the continuous difficulty of guaranteeing sustainability both to models of theological education and to the institutions that offer them. Mindful of these trends, this article seeks to provide a panoramic analysis of theological education in the context of an ever‐growing diversity of Christianity and to offer reflections and proposals on what is needed for a sustainable ecumenical and contextual theological education today. This article explores the relationship between the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) and the German Democratic Republic's State Security Service (Stasi) from 1945 to 1989. The MCC assisted Mennonite refugees in finding new homes in the Western hemisphere, which made them a target of surveillance by the Stasi. The article discusses the process of fleeing the GDR and the involvement of various secret services in the interrogation and approval of refugees. It also highlights the attempts by the Stasi to ban the Mennonite Church in the GDR and the reasons behind it. The article emphasizes the constant surveillance and monitoring of Mennonites by the Stasi and the challenges they faced in this environment. The text discusses the involvement of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) in various peace initiatives during the Cold War era. It mentions that MCC workers from North America played a role in promoting the Anabaptist peace witness among European Mennonites after World War II. The text also highlights the participation of Mennonites in conferences and discussions aimed at building bridges between East and West during the Cold War. It further mentions the involvement of individuals with ties to the East German State Security Service (Stasi) in these peace initiatives, including theologian Gerhard Bassarak. The text concludes by mentioning MCC's bridge-building efforts in Yugoslavia and East Germany during the Cold War. The text discusses the involvement of the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) in Vietnam during the war. MCC [Extracted from the article]

The task of Evangelization becomes even more pressing in our times owing to the need to make Christ known to the ends of the earth. Over the years, disunity inhibited Christians from working together towards attaining this goal. The Decree on Ecumenism of the Second Vatican Council, Unitatis Redintegratio, marked a turning point in the history of the relationship between the Catholic Church and other Churches and Ecclesial Communities because it paved the way for a concrete step, on the part of the Catholic Church, towards the realization Christian unity. The Ecumenical theology of Joseph Ratzinger in the light of the Decree Unitatis Redintegratio studies his stance on how the self-understanding of the Catholic Church guides her relationship with other Churches and Ecclesial Communities. Ratzinger affirms that Christian unity is possible, and it is a slow, painstaking and thorough process. Ratzinger emphasises the fact that true Christian unity is the action of the Trinity. The work is divided into three Chapters. The First Chapter traces the development of the Decree while paying attention to the themes raised therein. It helps to situate the context within which Ratzinger’s Ecumenical theology should be understood. The Second Chapter demonstrates how Ratzinger’s ecclesiology influences his approach to ecumenism. The Third Chapter examines the main themes in Joseph Ratzinger’s Ecumenical Theology in the light of Unitatis Redintegratio, the official Church teachings and the works of contemporary theologians both within and outside the Catholic Church. This article is part of my doctoral thesis, whose fieldwork took place between August 2014 and August 2017, in events and activities of the Brazilian ecumenical movement. Through a positioned eye (Haraway, 1995), we start epistemologically from the "suspicion" that there would be many stories to be told about ecumenism other than from and in the masculine. Here we analyze the disputes involved in the relations between experiences in the past, considering the ecumenical decades of action of women for women, ecumenical acts in the present time and the "horizons of expectations" (Koselleck, 2006) that intertwine and constitute other possible stories. In this article we suggest a brief analysis of the situation in which the movement for regaining Christian unity finds itself. We refer to an impetus towards inter-confessional unity that appeared last centuries within an extra- European context. Meanwhile, ecumenical principles have been either ignored or lessened in both bilateral and multilateral ecclesiastical dialogues. There are multiple causes. Therefore, we draw attention towards that, which means the foundation of the ecumenical movement, namely the dialogue of love and the dialogue of truth, which should not be mistaken for the quantitative negotiations for Christian unity. Afterwards we invite at assuming real ecumenism, which ought to bear in mind the secularised Christian context and the religious indifference. Given these challenges, they might be right those, who wonder whether we should go on striving towards unity. However, nowadays, concrete gestures of ecumenical solidarity are still to be found. Finally, we promote the cause of spiritual ecumenism. Pope Francis in 2019 on his visit in Romania spoke about the ecumenism of blood, of the poor, and of prayer. Could, thus, prayer reinvigorate the hope of regaining Christian unity? [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
