- Abstract
Many AI ethics guidelines have recently been published that center the fairness, accountability, sustainability, and transparency of algorithmic decision-making. Relatively few guidelines center the ethics of the business practices and political economies in which AI systems are situated. We present the findings of a semi-systematic literature review and thematic analysis aimed at determining the extent to which the ethics of AI business practices are considered in a large sample of guidelines. Our review reveals that the political and economic implications of AI business practices are greatly underrepresented in AI ethics guidelines. In its current state, AI ethics guidelines focus disproportionately on issues of algorithmic decision-making, while the fairness, accountability, sustainability, and transparency of the business decision-making contexts in which AI systems are situated remain seriously undermined by competitive and speculative norms, ethics washing, corporate secrecy, and other harmful business practices. We discuss these challenges, and we suggest that the ontological and disciplinary scope of future AI ethics guidelines should be expanded to better contend with them.

- Abstract
Invasions of non-native species have been occurring across the globe, mostly due to human activities or climate change. Although most introduced species fail to expand or have slight impact on their new ecosystems, the large number of true invasive species has led to serious economic and ecological problems. Knowledge of the fundamental drivers shaping the current distribution and abundance of invasive species of barnacles of the genus AmphibalanusPitombo, 2004in Iraq are still poorly understood. We collected samples of barnacles from 21 sites from the lower reaches of the Shatt Al-Arab with salinities of 20–24 ppt to the upper part of the Shatt Al-Arab, and northwest to the Al-Hammar marshes and the Euphrates River with salinities of 0.9–2.8 ppt. Amphibalanus amphitrite(Darwin, 1854) was widely distributed, occurring at most sites. With the exception of a few sites close to the mouth of the Shatt Al-Arab, A. improvisus(Darwin, 1854) was restricted to sites with salinities of 22–37 ppt. Amphibalanus subalbidus(Henry, 1973) had an oligohaline distribution, occurring in moderately saline water. Redundancy analysis (RDA) revealed that the spatial distribution and abundance of all three species were influenced by salinity and temperature. Overall, our results confirm the importance of mapping the spatial distribution and abundance of invasive species in order to assess and manage the risks these species pose to native ecosystems.

No hubo complicaciones a corto plazo. Objective: To evaluate the long-term subjective, anatomical and functional outcomes after laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy for apical prolapse. Methods: An observational study of women undergoing laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy between February 2006 and December 2012 was undertaken, at three centers. Pelvic organ support was assessed objectively using the pelvic organ prolapse quantification scale (POP-Q). Functional outcomes were assessed using a questionnaire of bowel, urinary, sexual and physical discomfort symptoms postoperatively. Also was assessed the overall satisfaction of surgery with a scale of one to ten. Results: During the period of the study, sacrocolpopexy was done in 68 patients, but follow-up was possible only in 24. At a mean follow up of 34 months, all 24 women had stage 0 vault support with point C of the POP-Q score averaging -6.8 cm. Subjective improvements in prolapse symptoms were observed with significant reductions in the questionnaire scores. The satisfaction measured with visual scale averaged 9.1. Fifteen women reported stress urinary incontinence before sacrocolpopexy, and it was resolved in 35% without concomitant continence surgery. New onset incontinence was reported in two women. There were no intraoperative and perioperative complications. The long term complications were an incisional hernia on the trocar port site and bowel obstruction caused by the mesh that needed intestinal resection. Conclusions: Laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy is a safe and effective surgical treatment for post-hysterectomy apical prolapse. It provides excellent apical support and good level of satisfaction, with overall improvement in prolapse symptoms.

- Abstract
The ATP-gated P2X7 purinergic receptor (P2X7) is involved in the pathogenesis of many neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs). Several P2X7 antagonists have been developed, though none of them reached clinical trials for this indication. In this work, we designed and synthesized novel blood–brain barrier (BBB)-permeable derivatives as potential P2X7 antagonists. They comprise purine or xanthine cores linked to an aryl group through different short spacers. Compounds were tested in YO-PRO-1 uptake assays and intracellular calcium dynamics in a human P2X7-expressing HEK293 cell line, two-electrode voltage-clamp recordings in Xenopus laevisoocytes, and in interleukin 1β release assays in mouse peritoneal macrophages. BBB permeability was assessed by parallel artificial membrane permeability assays and P-glycoprotein ATPase activity. Dichloroarylpurinylethanones featured a certain P2X7 blockade, being compound 6(2-(6-chloro-9H-purin-9-yl)-1-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)ethan-1-one), named ITH15004, the most potent, selective, and BBB-permeable antagonist. Compound 6can be considered as a first non-nucleotide purine hit for future drug optimizations.

- Abstract
Background: Documenting the patterns of oral anticoagulation therapy (OAT) is essential to prevent thromboembolic complications of nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). Objective: To report the patterns of OAT according to age and thromboembolic risk in patients included in CARMEN-AF, a nationwide registry of NVAF in Mexico, an upper middle-income country. Material and methods: There were 1,423 consecutive patients ≥18 years old and with at least one thromboembolic risk factor enrolled in the CARMEN-AF Registry at their regular clinical visit during a three-year period. They were analyzed according to 1) age, 2) AF type, and 3) CHA
2 DS2 -VASc score. Results: Overall, 16.4% of patients did not receive antithrombotic treatment, 19.4% received antiplatelet drugs (APD), 29.2% vitamin K antagonists (VKA), and 34.6% direct oral anticoagulants (DOAC). With increasing age, the proportion of subjects treated with VKA decreased significantly from 36.2% in subjects <65 years to 22.5% in those ≥75 years old (P <0.0001). Concomitantly, an increase in both APD and no antithrombotic treatment was observed with increasing age. DOAC were prescribed equally among all age groups (34.2% in <65, 36.0% in 65-74, and 33.9% in ≥75). According to the type of AF, VKA use was more common in patients with permanent AF (32.7%). A lower use of DOAC was observed in high thromboembolic risk subjects (33.6% in CHA2 DS2 -VASc ≥2) compared with the moderate risk group (41% in CHA2 DS2 -VASc = 1). Conclusions: VKA use for NVAF in Mexico decreased in relation to increasing age. The proportion of DOAC therapy was the same in all age groups. Nevertheless, elderly patients with high thromboembolic risk received a suboptimal thromboprophylaxis. These data could help to improve gaps in the implementation of global guidelines. Highlights: ™ CARMEN-AF is a nationwide multi-centric registry seeking to bridge the data gap on anticoagulation therapy for NVAF in Mexico. ™ Elderly patients are more prone to receive suboptimal OAT for NVAF. ⊲ DOAC were less frequently used in high thromboembolic risk patients (CHA2 DS2 -VASc ≥2). - Abstract
By 2050, 68% of the global population will reside in cities, driving rapid urban growth and intensifying demand for scarce ecological resources within the Water-Food-Energy nexus. Social metabolism quantifies energy and material transformations with a social focus, building upon urban metabolism. Its application in resource-scarce informal settlements (ISs) has the potential to enhance their sustainability significantly. As community dynamics evolve, acknowledging society as a dynamic variable within this framework becomes increasingly relevant. Our study employs the Multi-Scale Integrated Analysis of Societal and Ecosystem Metabolism (MuSIASEM) framework, focusing on key variables: human activity, land use, money, energy, water, waste, and food. Based on surveys, interviews, GIS datasets, and statistical information, the study investigates the Ciudad de Gosen IS in Lima, Peru. The results show that, in the socio-economic dimension, 43% of the time employed is directed to the unpaid work sector. Notably, 71% of women and 29% of men spend a mean of 44 h/week/person caring for children or elderly. In the paid work sector, there are gender asymmetries; men have a salary 54% higher than women. In the ecological dimension, more than 78% of the homes have access to basic services, unlike other informal settlements in Latin America and Africa.

- Abstract
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a global public health problem. Coinfections in HIV patients are frequent complications that increase their mortality. The aim of this study was to assess coinfections and in-hospital mortality in a group of patients infected with HIV in Colombia. A retrospective longitudinal study was carried out. Patients treated in 4 highly complex clinics in Colombia between 2015 and 2023 were included. The cases were identified from International Classification of Diseases codes related to HIV. Sociodemographic, clinical, laboratory and pharmacological variables were collected. Descriptive, bivariate, and multivariable analyses were performed. Of the 249 patients identified, 79.1% were men, and the median age was 38.0 years. Approximately 81.1% had a diagnosis of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Coinfections caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis(24.1%) and Treponema pallidum(20.5%) were the most frequent. A total of 20.5% of the patients had sepsis, 12.4% had septic shock, and the fatality rate was 15.7%. Antibiotics and antifungals were used in 88.8% and 53.8%, respectively, of the patients. Patients with a diagnosis of HIV before admission, those infected with M. tuberculosis, and those who presented with sepsis were more likely to die, whereas patients who received antiretroviral agent treatment before admission presented a lower risk. In this study, most HIV patients were in an advanced stage of the disease. Coinfection with M. tuberculosiswas common and was associated with an increased risk of death. Previous HIV diagnosis and sepsis also increased the risk. Approximately half of the patients with a previous HIV diagnosis were receiving antiretroviral therapy and had a better prognosis.

This case study of two secondary English teachers integrates a critical translingual approach in two urban classrooms. Our inquiry is guided by two questions: (1) How did two teachers engage critical translingual approaches in their classrooms? (2) How did their positionalities shape implementation of these approaches? This article illustrates how teachers' stances and practices can be affected by their identities, pointing to the ways that diverse teachers must approach their translanguaging pedagogies with an understanding of raciolinguistic ideologies. We end with a call for teacher educators to help teachers engage the transgressive elements of translanguaging in English classrooms and hone their raciolinguistic literacies so that they can design classroom learning in more humanizing ways. - Abstract

- Abstract
Vesicular monoamine transporter-2 is expressed in the presynaptic secretory vesicles membrane in the brain. Its blockade by tetrabenazine (TBZ) causes depletion of dopamine at striatal basal ganglia; this is the mechanism underlying its long-standing use in the treatment of Huntington’s disease. In the frame of a project aimed at investigating the kinetics of exocytosis from vesicles with partial emptying of their neurotransmitter, we unexpectedly found that TBZ facilitates exocytosis; thus, we decided to characterize such effect. We used bovine chromaffin cells (BCCs) challenged with repeated pulses of high K+. Upon repeated K+pulsing, the exocytotic catecholamine release responses were gradually decaying. However, when cells were exposed to TBZ, responses were mildly augmented and decay rate delayed. Facilitation of exocytosis was not due to Ca2+entry blockade through voltage-activated calcium channels (VACCs) because, in fact, TBZ mildly blocked the whole-cell Ca2+current. However, TBZ mimicked the facilitatory effects of exocytosis elicited by BayK8644 (L-subtype VACC agonist), an effect blocked by nifedipine (VACC antagonist). On the basis that TBZ augmented the secretory responses to caffeine (but not those of histamine), we monitored its effects on cytosolic Ca2+elevations ([Ca2+]c) triggered by caffeine or histamine. While the responses to caffeine were augmented twice by TBZ, those of histamine were unaffected; the same happened in rat cortical neurons. Hence, we hypothesize that TBZ facilitates exocytosis by increasing Ca2+release through the endoplasmic reticulum ryanodine receptor channel (RyR). Confirming this hypothesis are docking results, showing an interaction of TBZ with RyRs. This is consonant with the existence of a healthy Ca2+-induced-Ca2+-release mechanism in BCCs.

- Abstract
Patients with stable coronary artery disease and diabetes with previous percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), particularly those with previous stenting, are at high risk of ischaemic events. These patients are generally treated with aspirin. In this trial, we aimed to investigate if these patients would benefit from treatment with aspirin plus ticagrelor.

- Abstract
Olive pollen is a major allergenic source worldwide due to its extensive cultivation. We have combined available genomics data with a comprehensive proteomics approach to get the annotated olive tree (Olea europaeaL.) pollen proteome and define its complex allergenome. A total of 1907 proteins were identified by LC–MS/MS using predicted protein sequences from its genome. Most proteins (60%) were predicted to possess catalytic activity and be involved in metabolic processes. In total, 203 proteins belonging to 47 allergen families were found in olive pollen. A peptidyl–prolyl cis–transisomerase, cyclophilin, produced in Escherichia coli, was found as a new olive pollen allergen (Ole e 15). Most Ole e 15-sensitized patients were children (63%) and showed strong IgE recognition to the allergen. Ole e 15 shared high sequence identity with other plant, animal, and fungal cyclophilins and presented high IgE cross-reactivity with pollen, plant food, and animal extracts.

- Abstract
The 7-item Functionality Appreciation Scale (FAS) measures the extent of an individual's appreciation of their body for what it can do and is capable of doing. Although the FAS has been widely used in diverse linguistic contexts, it has not been previously translated into Spanish. Here, we examined the psychometric properties of a novel Spanish translation of the FAS in Colombian adults. A total of 1420 university students from Colombia (804 women, 616 men) completed the FAS, as well as additional validated measures. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses in separate subsamples supported a unidimensional model of FAS scores. The FAS evidenced scalar invariance across gender identity, with men having significantly higher FAS scores than women (Cohen's d = 0.18). FAS scores were also found to have adequate composite reliability, as well as adequate convergent (significant associations with body appreciation, appearance evaluation, and eating disorder psychopathology) and concurrent validity (significant associations with self-esteem, life satisfaction, and gratitude). Functionality appreciation incrementally predicted life satisfaction in women, but not in men. Overall, these results suggest that the Spanish FAS is a psychometrically valid and reliable tool for the assessment of functionality appreciation in university-aged populations from Colombia. • Functionality Appreciation Scale (FAS) has unidimensional structure in Colombian adults. • FAS is invariant across gender, with men having higher scores than women. • FAS scores have adequate composite reliability, and convergent and concurrent validity. • Evidence of incremental validity supported in women, but not men. laparoscopic Burch colposuspension ,Stress urinary incontinence ,índice de Sandvik ,Obstetrics and Gynecology ,Incontinencia urinaria de esfuerzo ,colposuspensión laparoscópica de Burch ,Sandvik s index - Abstract
Objectives: To describe the subjective cure rate, the score of the Sandvik test and the complications after la-paroscopic Burch in patients with stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Methods: Prospective descriptive study. We included all patients diagnosed with SUI Blaivas type IIB, and operated on by laparoscopy in two reference institutions between 2003 and 2007. Results: We analyzed 72 patients with an average age of 46.57 ± 9.54 years. The average follow-up was 24.4 months, with a minimum of 9 and a maximum of 55.8. The average operating time in 29 patients in which we only performed laparoscopic Burch with or without colpo-rrhaphy was 93.7 minutes (55-180 minutes); 56 patients (77.8%) reported subjective cure. The Sandvik's severity index found 56.9% dry patients and 13.8% with mild losses. Conclusion: The laparoscopic management may be useful in some patients, especially those who will be carried to laparoscopy by some other indication. Subjective cure rates are similar to other types of surgery.

Objective: To compare the learning curve in total laparoscopic hysterectomy (HLT) from four gynecologists in the Clínica del Prado, Medellín, Colombia. To determine the number of surgeries required to achieve an average surgical time of 90 minutes, to reduce laparoconversions to 3% or less and to reduce total complications to less than 10%. Method: We performed a prospective cohort study including 626 patients operated by four gynecologists laparoscopist with similar technique and surgical equipment. We made four groups of patients according to the order in the cases of each one. Results: The mean operative time of 93 minutes is achieved with the first 50 HLT. Doing 50-100 HLT, laparoconversions rates low to 1.9%. The complication rate in the sum of first and second cohort is 19.4% and the total complication rate in third cohort is 8.7% (RR: 0.45; 95%CI 0.26-0.78) which remains in the desired limit (10%) in fourth cohort. Conclusions: HLT learning curve to achieve an average surgical time of 90 minutes is achieved with the first 50 hysterectomies. Despite the methodological limitations this study, shows that to achieve máximum expertise, it takes between 50-100 hysterectomies to achieve laparoconversions less than 3%, and between 100-150 hysterectomies to achieve total complications lower than 10%.
