220. Ferroelectricity‐Tuned Band Topology and Superconductivity in 2D Materials and Related Heterostructures.

Abstract

Ferroelectricity, band topology, and superconductivity are respectively local, global, and macroscopic properties of quantum materials, and understanding their mutual couplings offers unique opportunities for exploring rich physics and enhanced functionalities. In this mini‐review, the attempt is to highlight some of the latest advances in this vibrant area, focusing in particular on ferroelectricity‐tuned superconductivity and band topology in 2D materials and related heterostructures. First, results from predictive studies of the delicate couplings between ferroelectricity and topology or superconductivity based on first‐principles calculations and phenomenological modeling are presented, with ferroelectricity‐enabled topological superconductivity as an appealing objective. Next, the latest advances on experimental studies of ferroelectricity‐tuned superconductivity based on different 2D materials or van der Waals heterostructures are covered. Finally, as perspectives, schemes are outlined that may allow to materialize new types of 2D systems that simultaneously harbor ferroelectricity and superconductivity, or that may lead to enhanced ferroelectric superconductivity, ferroelectric topological superconductivity, and new types of superconducting devices such as superconducting diodes. 221. Visible light promoted aerobic selective photo-oxidation of cyclohexene on LaCoxCu1−xO3 catalyst.

Abstract

Heterogeneously catalyzed liquid oxidation of olefins with O2 provides an alternative way for synthesizing high-value added chemicals. Herein, we report a straightforward urea-redox and sol-gel process for synthesizing LaCoxCu1−xO3 for aerobic photo-oxidation of cyclohexene. Our research highlights a marked increase in the proportions of Co2+ and Cu+ species in a low chemical state, as well as enhanced visible light absorption through this method. Mechanistic investigations suggest that the catalytic process, particularly with LaCo0.7Cu0.3O3, involves a radical pathway mediated by reactive oxygen species. The presence of Cu+/Co2+ species and surface oxygen vacancies is proposed to boost O2 adsorption and activation on the catalyst, facilitating the formation of 2-cyclohexene-1-hydroperoxides. Furthermore, Cu2+/Co3+ species are thought to aid in generating cyclohexene-derived radical species. The efficient aerobic oxidation of cyclohexene on LaCo0.7Cu0.3O3 catalyst relies on the formation of reactive oxygen species and carbon radicals, facilitated by its strong visible light illumination. It achieves a cyclohexene conversion of 89.4% and selectivity to cyclohex-2-ene-1-one of 72.2%, along with stable recyclability after six reuses. The creation of nano-structured LaCoxCu1−xO3 through the urea-redox and sol-gel process offers a promising avenue for the development of highly efficient catalysts for the aerobic photo-oxidation of cyclohexene to cyclohex-2-ene-1-one in the future. Abstract

We successfully fabricated two-dimensional metallic CoBi nanoislands on SrTiO3 (001) substrate by molecular beam epitaxy, and systematically investigated their electronic structures by scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy in situ at 4.2 K. Coulomb blockade and Coulomb staircases with discrete and well-separated levels are observed for the individual nanoisland, which is attributed to single-electron tunneling via two tunnel junction barriers. They are in excellent agreement with the simulations based on orthodox theory. Furthermore, we demonstrated that the Coulomb blockade becomes weaker with increasing temperature and almost disappears at ∼22 K in our variable temperature experiment, and its full-width at half-maximum of d I /d V peaks with temperature is ∼6 mV. Abstract

Rabbit coccidiosis is caused by infection with one or, more commonly, several Eimeria species that parasitize the hepatobiliary ducts or intestinal epithelium of rabbits. Currently, there are eleven internationally recognized species of rabbit coccidia, with the complete mitochondrial (mt) genomes of six species commonly infecting rabbits having been sequenced and annotated. Eimeria kongi was initially discovered in 2011 and prompted a preliminary study on this species. Through traditional morphological analysis, E. kongi was identified as a novel species of rabbit coccidia. To further validate this classification, we sequenced and annotated its mitochondrial genome. The complete mt genome of E. kongi spans 6258 bp and comprises three cytochrome genes (cytb, cox1, cox3), fourteen gene fragments for the large subunit (LSU) rRNA, and nine gene fragments for the small subunit (SSU) rRNA, lacking transfer RNA (tRNA) genes. Moreover, phylogenetic analysis of the mitochondrial genome sequence of E. kongi revealed its clustering with six other species of rabbit coccidia into a monophyletic group. Additionally, E. irresidua and E. flavescens were grouped within the lineage lacking oocyst residuum, consistent with their morphological characteristics. Consistent with multiple molecular phylogenies, in this investigation, E. kongi was further confirmed as a new species of rabbit coccidia. Abstract

Synthetic hormones in wastewater effluents released into the aquatic environments may interfere with the normal endocrine systems of fish in receiving streams. Norgestrel (NGT) is a synthetic progestin widely used in oral contraceptives and frequently detected in wastewater effluents. In this study, adult female mosquitofish (Gambusia affinis) were exposed to three environmentally relevant concentrations of norgestrel (NGT) (i.e., 3.6, 35.8, and 368.0 ng L-1) for 42 d, fin morphology, histology of the ovary, and reproductive behaviors were evaluated. The results showed that NGT at all three concentrations caused an increased frequency of atretic follicular cells in ovaries and impaired mating behaviors exhibited by males toward the NGT-exposed females. In mosquitofish exposed to NGT at 35.8 and 368 ng L-1, the anal fin of females had an increased length ratio of ray4/ray 6, an increased width of ray 3, and increased number of segments in ray 3. Abstract

This article aims to improve the stretching quality of the flat noodles products by optimizing the key processes such as refining, formula and steaming on the breaking distance of whole grain flat noodles.The results show that the breaking distance of whole grain flat noodles prepared by backfilling rice bran is significantly better than that of whole rice refining. Meanwhile, scanning electron microscopy analysis shows that the grains of backfilled whole grain rice slurry are small, fine and uniform. The particle size results show that 83.91% of the particles are below 10 μm, and 14.93% of the particles are between 10 μm to 100 μm, while only 1.16% of them are larger than 100 μm, which is close to polished rice slurry. To further improve the stretching quality, the rice bran to be backfilled is selected. At the same time, the effect of adding soy protein isolate, guar gum, konjac mannan, cassava starch, gluten and other ingredients on the breaking distance of flat noodles is compared. The stretching quality of whole grain flat noodles prepared from homologous defatted rice bran and added soybean protein isolate is the closest to that of ordinary rice noodles. The material-toliquid ratio of the optimized steaming process is 1∶1.4 (g∶mL) and the products are steamed for 9 min.

Abstract

Effects of dry grinding, wet grinding and wet grinding after fermentation on the physicochemical properties of mung bean were studied. The results indicated that the composition of wet ground mung bean after fermented flour (FWMB) changed the most, protein content decreased from 23.68% to 21.02%, the starch content decreased from 56.97% to 55.11%, and the amylose content increased from 14.48% to 19.72%.The analysis of pasting and hydration properties showed that wet ground mung bean flour (WMB) and FWMB had higher peak viscosity, minimum viscosity, attenuation value and final viscosity than dry ground mung bean flour (DMB), and water absorption index and swelling power were increased, but water solubility index was decreased. Particle size analysis found the average particle sizes of DMB, WMB and FWMB were 120.13, 105.21, 92.94 μm, respectively; scanning electron microscope observation showed that the ultrastructure of WMB and FWMB was relatively intact, while DMB had the greatest damage; damaged starch content confirmed WMB, FWMB and DMB were 9.92%, 5.99% and 6.07%, respectively. Abstract

Inositol hexaphosphate (IP6) is a phytochemical widely found in grains and legumes that plays an anti-cancer role. However, the mechanism underlying the inhibition of colorectal cancer metastasis by IP6 through host genes, gut microbiota, and their interactions remain elusive. In this study, 16S rRNA sequencing was used to study the effect of IP6 on gut microbiota in an orthotopic transplantation model of colorectal cancer mice. The transcriptome was used to study the changes of host genes in metastasis and the relationship with gut microbiota. The results showed that the gut microbiota composition of model mice was significantly different from that of normal mice. The beta diversity partly tended to return to the normal level after IP6 intervention. Especially, Lactobacillus helveticus and Lactococcus lactis were recovered after IP6-treated. Enrichment analysis showed that the enrichment score of the Cytokine-Cytokine receptor interaction signal pathway decreased after IP6 treatment compared to the model group. Further analysis of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in this pathway showed that IP6 reduced the expression of the Tnfrsf1b gene related to the area of liver metastasis, and the Tnfrsf1b gene was negatively correlated with the relative abundance of Lactobacillus helveticus. Our results presented that host gene, microbiome and their interaction may serve as promising targets for the mechanism of IP6 intervention in colorectal cancer metastasis.
