220. Thermodynamic and dynamic dual regulation Bi2O2CO3/Bi5O7I enabling high-flux photogenerated charge migration for enhanced visible-light-driven photocatalysis.

Abstract

Herein, the essence of high-flux photogenerated charge migration for Bi2O2CO3/Bi5O7I heterojunction photocatalysts is revealed from both thermodynamic and dynamic perspectives. The appropriate energy band offset provides the thermodynamic conditions of photogenerated electrons and holes migration in opposite directions, which is derived from the lower valence and conduction band positions of Bi5O7I than Bi2O2CO3. Meanwhile, the dynamic conditions are provided by the interface electric field generated via the work function difference between Bi5O7I and Bi2O2CO3, which affords a driving force for the above-mentioned reverse migration of photogenerated electrons and holes. Moreover, the Bi–O chemical bond on the interface creates a charge transport bridge between Bi5O7I and Bi2O2CO3. By benefiting from the dual regulation of thermodynamics and dynamics and the charge transport bridge, the photocatalytic activity of the Bi2O2CO3/Bi5O7I heterojunction photocatalyst has significantly increased at least 23 times under visible light irradiation. 237. Activating the Basal Plane of 2H-MoS2by Doping Phosphor for Enhancement in the Photocatalytic Degradation of Organic Contaminants

Abstract

The 2H phases of MoS2(2H-MoS2) monolayers present a wealth of new opportunities in photocatalysis owing to their photoinduced catalyzing ability and excellent charge carrier mobility. However, the complete release of their catalytic activities is restricted by their inert basal planes. Although the inert base planes of 2H-MoS2are known to be activated by atomic doping, the operational principle of the exotic atoms remains vague. In this study, the unutilized inert base sites of MoS2were activated via an oxygen-aided P-substituted method (denoted as POMS). Molecular structural tests and analyses of POMS indicated that the inert MoS2substrate is activated when the inerratic crystal phases transform to amorphous phases in the P-doping process. The fully activated inert base planes provide sufficient reaction sites for photo-oxidized water contaminants. The designed POMS presented superior activity in organic degradation and completely removed sulfamethoxazole within 20 min. Uncovering these operational principles provides a theoretical basis for designing effective catalysts.

239. Enhanced removal of Chironomus kiiensis larvae in conventional water treatment process by pre-oxidation

Abstract

Chironomus kiiensis larvae, which cannot be exterminated by conventional disinfection processes, propagate prolifically in eutrophic water bodies, therefore posing a potential problem for drinking water quality. In this work, quantitative experimental studies were carried out on inactivation of Chironomus kiiensis larvae using conventional oxidants of chlorine (Cl 2 ), chlorine dioxide (ClO 2 ) and ozone under conditions of different oxidant dosages, organic precursor concentration and pH values. The results showed that three oxidants used could inactivate Chironomus kiiensis larvae to some extent. Chlorine and chlorine dioxide were proved to be the least and most efficient oxidant for inactivating Chironomus kiiensis larvae, respectively. In addition, the synergic removal effects with pre-oxidation followed by conventional water treatment processes were also evaluated. The results showed that pre-oxidation could lead to enhanced removal of the inactivated organism by the subsequent coagulation process while lowering the dosage of oxidant. In view of the need to secure drinking water quality, it is necessary to combine oxidant inactivation with conventional processes for removing Chironomus kiiensis larvae from micro-polluted water sources.
