Background: The complexity of Chinese medicine treatment for Alzheimer's disease (AD) utilizing a multi-herb therapy makes the evidence in current studies insufficient. Herb pairs are the most fundamental form of multi-herb formulae. Among the Chinese herbal formulas for AD treatment, Polygala tenuifolia (PT) and Acorus tatarinowii (AT) appeared as the most commonly used herbal pairs in combination.* Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of the combination of PT and AT in the treatment of AD. Methods: We systematically searched and screened randomized controlled trials of pairing PT and AT for the treatment of AD patients in eight databases with a search deadline of June 26, 2023. Authors, year of publication, title, and basic information such as subject characteristics (age, sex, and race), course of disease, control interventions, dose, and treatment duration were extracted from the screened studies. Primary outcomes assessed included mini-mental state examination (MMSE), activities of daily living (ADL), and AD assessment scalecognitive subscale (ADAS-cog), while secondary outcomes included efficiency and adverse events. The quality of the included studies was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool. The mean difference with 95% confidence intervals (MD [95% CI]) and risk ratio (RR) was selected as the effect size, and the data were analyzed and evaluated using RevMan 5.4 and Stata 16. Results: A total of sixteen eligible and relevant studies involving 1103 AD participants were included. The combination of PT and AT plus conventional drugswas superior to single conventional drugs in MMSE [MD = 2.57, 95%CI: (1.44, 3.69); p < 0.00001; I2 = 86%], ADL [MD = -3.19, 95%CI: (-4.29, -2.09); p < 0.00001; I2 = 0%], and ADAS-cog scores [MD =-2.09, 95%CI: (-3.07, -1.10); p < 0.0001; I2 =0%]. The combination of PT and AT plus conventional drugs had a significantly more favorable benefit in clinical effectiveness [RR = 1.27, 95%CI: (1.12, 1.44); p=0.0002; I2 = 0%]. Adverse events were not increased with the combination of PT and AT plus conventional drugs compared to conventional drugs [RR = 0.65, 95%CI: (0.35, 1.19); p = 0.16; I2 = 0%]. The experimental group treated with the combination of PT and AT alone for AD was comparable in MMSE, ADL, and ADAS-cog scores compared with the control group treated with single conventional drugs. Conclusion: Compared to single conventional drugs, the combination of PT and AT may be used as an alternative therapy to improve global cognition and functioning in AD, and the combination of PT and AT as adjunctive therapy appears to produce a better therapeutic response to AD in terms of efficacy without increasing the risk of adverse events. Background: Accurate clinical structural variant (SV) calling is essential for cancer target identification and diagnosis but has been historically challenging due to the lack of ground truth for clinical specimens. Meanwhile, reduced clinical-testing cost is the key to the widespread clinical utility. Methods: We analyzed massive data from tumor samples of 476 patients and developed a computational framework for accurate and cost-effective detection of clinically-relevant SVs. In addition, standard materials and classical experiments including immunohistochemistry and/or fluorescence in situ hybridization were used to validate the developed computational framework. Results: We systematically evaluated the common algorithms for SV detection and established an expert-reviewed SV call set of 1,303 tumor-specific SVs with high-evidence levels. Moreover, we developed a random-forest-based decision model to improve the true positive of SVs. To independently validate the tailored 'two-step' strategy, we utilized standard materials and classical experiments. The accuracy of the model was over 90% (92–99.78%) for all types of data. This review discusses the variety, chemical composition, pharmacological effects, toxicology, and clinical research of corals used in traditional medicine in the past two decades. At present, several types of medicinal coral resources are identified, which are used in 56 formulas such as traditional Chinese medicine, Tibetan medicine, Mongolian medicine, and Uyghur medicine. A total of 34 families and 99 genera of corals are involved in medical research, with the Alcyoniidae family and Sarcophyton genus being the main research objects. Based on the structural types of compounds and the families and genera of corals, this review summarizes the compounds primarily reported during the period, including terpenoids, steroids, nitrogen-containing compounds, and other terpenoids dominated by sesquiterpene and diterpenes. The biological activities of coral include cytotoxicity (antitumor and anticancer), anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antibacterial, antiviral, immunosuppressive, antioxidant, and neurological properties, and a detailed summary of the mechanisms underlying these activities or related targets is provided. Coral toxicity mostly occurs in the marine ornamental soft coral Zoanthidae family, with palytoxin as the main toxic compound. In addition, nonpeptide neurotoxins are extracted from aquatic corals. The compatibility of coral-related preparations did not show significant acute toxicity, but if used for a long time, it will still cause toxicity to the liver, kidneys, lungs, and other internal organs in a dose-dependent manner. In clinical applications, individual application of coral is often used as a substitute for orthopedic materials to treat diseases such as bone defects and bone hyperplasia. Second, coral is primarily available in the form of compound preparations, such as Ershiwuwei Shanhu pills and Shanhu Qishiwei pills, which are widely used in the treatment of neurological diseases such as migraine, primary headache, epilepsy, cerebral infarction, hypertension, and other cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. It is undeniable that the effectiveness of coral research has exacerbated the endangered status of corals. Therefore, there should be no distinction between the advantages and disadvantages of listed endangered species, and it is imperative to completely prohibit their use and provide equal protection to help them recover to their normal numbers. This article can provide some reference for research on coral chemical composition, biological activity, chemical ecology, and the discovery of marine drug lead compounds. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has achieved high clinical efficacy in treating malignancies in recent years and is thus gradually becoming an important therapy for patients with advanced tumor for its benefits in reducing side effects and improving patients' immune status. However, it has not been internationally recognized for cancer treatment because TCM's anti-tumor mechanism is not fully elucidated, limiting its clinical application and international promotion. This review traced the mechanism of the TCM-mediated tumor cell death pathway and its effect on remodeling the tumor immune microenvironment, its direct impact on the microenvironment, its anti-tumor effect in combination with immunotherapy, and the current status of clinical application of TCM on tumor treatment. TCM can induce tumor cell death in many regulatory cell death (RCD) pathways, including apoptosis, autophagy, pyroptosis, necroptosis, and ferroptosis. In addition, TCM-induced cell death could increase the immune cells' infiltration with an anti-tumor effect in the tumor tissue and elevate the proportion of these cells in the spleen or peripheral blood, enhancing the anti-tumor capacity of the tumor-bearing host. Moreover, TCM can directly affect immune function by increasing the population or activating the sub-type immune cells with an anti-tumor role. It was concluded that TCM could induce a pan-tumor death modality, remodeling the local TIME differently. It can also improve the systemic immune status of tumor-bearing hosts. This review aims to establish a theoretical basis for the clinical application of TCM in tumor treatment and to provide a reference for TCM's potential in combination with immunotherapy in cancer treatment. Sprays have gained significant attention and widespread use due to their numerous advantages, including rapid action, safety, and convenience. They are widely used in various fields such as dermatology, respiratory disease treatment, wound repair, and central nervous system targeted drug delivery. With the in-depth research of new drugs and modern pharmaceutics, the development ideas of sprays are more diverse, and the application scenarios are increasingly extensive. In this review the clinical application status of sprays and the latest research progress were summarized. OBJECTIVE: To probe into the clinical application rationality of Chinese patent medicines based on the application of Chinese patent medicine and the review of special medical orders in a grade Ⅲ, level A integrated traditional Chinese and Western Medicine hospital ( hereinafter referred to as “ the hospital ”). METHODS: Retrospective study was conducted to analyze the categories, consumption sum, use intensity, defined daily dose system (DDDs), drug consumption sum ranking (B) / DDDs ranking (A) and adverse drug reactions (ADR) related to Chinese patent medicines in the ward of the hospital from 2021 to 2022. Totally 4 800 inpatient medical orders with Chinese patent medicines from 2021 to 2022 were selected for special medical order review, and irrational drug use problems existing in clinical application of Chinese patent medicines were summarized and analyzed. RESULTS: Traditional Chinese medicine injections were widely used in the inpatient department of this hospital. The top 5 drugs ranked by consumption sum in 2 consecutive years included Shenkang injection, brucea jananica oil injection, and Xingnaojing injection. Shenkang injection and brucea jananica oil injection ranked the top 3 in terms of use intensity. The drugs with B / A > 1. 5 were Ningmitai capsules, Kuanxiong aerosol inhalation and Peiyuan Tongnao capsules, Shenkang injection with B / A <0. 5 for 2 consecutive years, while the B / A of most Chinese patent medicines was from 0. 5 to 1. 5. Among the 4 800 inpatient medical orders with Chinese patent medicines, there were 465 cases (9. 69%) with irrational drug use. The irrational drug use problems were mainly related to drugs of dampness removing, drugs of blood stasis removing and resuscitation, which were mainly manifested as inappropriate indications, repeated drug use, improper drug combination, and inappropriate usage, dosage and course of treatment. In the ADR reports related to Chinese patent medicines, oral dosage forms accounted for the highest proportion, followed by injections CONCLUSIONS: The clinical application of Chinese patent medicine in the hospital is basically reasonable, and it is necessary to focus on the use of traditional Chinese medicine injections and ADR, and further promote clinical rational drug use and reduce adverse drug reactions by carrying out the relevant work of medical order review and strengthening medication supervision. The pathways through which mature blood cells in the bone marrow (BM) enter the blood stream and exit the BM, hematopoietic stem cells in the peripheral blood return to the BM, and other substances exit the BM are referred to as the marrow–blood barrier (MBB). This barrier plays an important role in the restrictive sequestration of blood cells, the release of mature blood cells, and the entry and exit of particulate matter. In some blood diseases and tumors, the presence of immature cells in the blood suggests that the MBB is damaged, mainly manifesting as increased permeability, especially in angiogenesis. Some imaging methods have been used to monitor the integrity and permeability of the MBB, such as DCE-MRI, IVIM, ASL, BOLD-MRI, and microfluidic devices, which contribute to understanding the process of related diseases and developing appropriate treatment options. Objective L-carnitine plays a crucial role in sperm maturation and energy metabolism, exerting multiple functions such as improving sperm quality, maintaining sperm DNA integrity, and facilitating sperm-egg binding. Guidelines and consensus, including the Expert Consensus on the Clinical Application of L-carnitine in Male Infertility (2014 Edition) and the Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Male Infertility (2022 Edition), have clarified the clinical value of L-carnitine in the treatment of male infertility and provided recommendations on its standardized application. With further study on the physiological effects of L-carnitine, it has been found that L-carnitine exerts multifaceted effects such as improving mitochondrial function and energy metabolism, possessing the ability of anti-oxidation and anti-apoptosis, promoting nerve regeneration and nutrition and neurotransmitter regulation, as well as facilitating gene expression regulation. Meanwhile, several clinical studies have demonstrated that in addition to male infertility, L-carnitine also plays a role in the treatment of many other andrological diseases, including Peyronie's disease, late-onset hypogonadism, and erectile dysfunction. This consensus is hereby developed to further clarify the clinical application of L-carnitine in various andrological diseases, giving detailed information on the distribution of L-carnitine in the human body, its basic physiological effects as well as its pharmacological effects, clinical research progress, and standardized medication in various andrological diseases to ultimately provide guidance and reference for clinical medication. Background: Spontaneous abortion is the most common complication of early pregnancy. In this study, we aim to investigate the clinical application value of genetic diagnosis using single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) microarray analysis on the products of conception and to characterize the types of genetic abnormalities and their prevalence in pregnancy loss in Northwest China. Methods: Over 48 months, we selected 652 products of conception, which included chorionic villi, fetal tissues, germ cell samples, amniotic fluid samples, cord blood samples, and a cardiac blood sample. We analyzed the distribution of chromosomal abnormalities leading to fetal arrest or abortion using SNP array. The patients were then categorized divided into groups based on maternal age, gestational age, number of miscarriages, and maternal ethnic background. The incidences of various chromosomal abnormalities in each group were compared. Results: Of the 652 cases, 314 (48.16%) exhibited chromosomal abnormalities. These included 286 cases with numerical chromosomal abnormalities, 24 cases with copy number variation, and four cases with loss of heterozygosity. Among them, there were 203 trisomy cases, 55 monosomy cases, and 28 polyploidy cases. In the subgroup analysis, significant differences were found in the frequency of numerical chromosomal abnormalities and copy number variation between the advanced and younger maternal age group as well as between the early and late abortion groups. Furthermore, we identified significant differences in the frequency of numerical chromosomal abnormalities between the first spontaneous abortion and recurrent miscarriage groups. However, there were no significant differences in the frequency of numerical chromosomal abnormalities between the Han and Uighur groups. Conclusion: Our research highlights chromosomal abnormalities as the primary cause of spontaneous abortion, with a higher incidence in early pregnancy and among women of advanced age. The use of SNP array analysis emerges as an effective and reliable technique for chromosome analysis in aborted fetuses. This method offers a comprehensive and dependable genetic investigation into the etiology of miscarriage, establishing itself as a valuable routine selection for genetic analysis in cases of natural abortions. Purpose: Liquid biopsy is a promising technological method in patient management of early-stage non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The detection platforms exhibit high efficiency and related clinical applications also emerge with high-quality performance. An overview of the current status is in need for an integrated perception on this field. Methods: NSCLC takes up the largest proportion of lung cancer and there is a tendency for more early-stage patients in real practice. Hence, early-stage NSCLC participants occupy an important position in clinical work. Liquid biopsy, as a promising non-invasive detection method, had great potential in various aspects of the whole diagnosis-treatment procedure. We went through the landmark articles according to liquid biopsy in the field of early-stage NSCLC management and concluded the status quo of it. Results: In this review, we summarized the improvement of the detection technologies regarding the most widely studied biomarkers and elucidated the current clinical applications of liquid biopsy in early detection, prognostic performance assessment, and predictive value respectively, in early-stage NSCLC patients. Conclusion: Liquid biopsy has achieved favorable outcomes in different aspects of early-stage NSCLC. Intracranial atherosclerosis is the main cause of ischemic stroke in China. With the recent advancement of imaging technology, high-resolution magnetic resonance vessel wall imaging (HRMR-VWI) has outperformed other techniques in visualizing the vessel walls and plaques responsible for ischemic stroke. Accurate diagnosis and differentiation of diseases are crucial for the early treatment and prognosis. This article provides a comprehensive review of the HRMR-VWI technology and its applications in distinguishing cerebrovascular diseases related to ischemic stroke, assessing plaque vulnerability, and guiding treatment strategies for intracranial atherosclerosis. The liver is one of the few organs that retain the capability to regenerate in adult mammals. This regeneration process is mainly facilitated by the dynamic behavior of hepatocytes, which are the major functional constituents in the liver. In response to liver injury, hepatocytes undergo remarkable alterations, such as reprogramming, wherein they lose their original identity and acquire properties from other cells. This phenomenon of hepatocyte reprogramming, coupled with hepatocyte expansion, plays a central role in liver regeneration, and its underlying mechanisms are complex and multifaceted. Understanding the fate of reprogrammed hepatocytes and the mechanisms of their conversion has significant implications for the development of innovative therapeutics for liver diseases. Herein, we review the plasticity of hepatocytes in response to various forms of liver injury, with a focus on injury‐induced hepatocyte reprogramming. We provide a comprehensive summary of current knowledge on the molecular and cellular mechanisms governing hepatocyte reprogramming, specifically in the context of liver regeneration, providing insight into potential applications of this process in the treatment of liver disorders, including chronic liver diseases and liver cancer. Aim: The lumen-apposing metal stent (LAMS) is a new device that expands the scope of gastrointestinal intervention under endoscopy. LAMS was initially used for the treatment of pancreatic fluid collections (PFCs), but is increasingly being used off-label. The electrocautery system simplifies the deployment of LAMS, making it more suitable for off-label situations. The short-term results of electrocautery-enhanced lumen-apposing metal stents (ECE-LAMS) are satisfactory; however, the long-term follow-up results must be evaluated. The aim of this article is to review the expanded clinical application of ECE-LAMS, the clinical value of on-label and off-label use, and follow-up results. Methods: After searching in PubMed and Web of Science databases using 'electrocautery-enhanced lumen-apposing metal stents' and 'endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) -guided interventions' as keywords, studies related were compiled and examined. Results: ECE-LAMS are widely used for on-label and off-label situations. The short-term and long-term results of ECE-LAMS are satisfactory, but there are still some studies that do not agree with this viewpoint. Conclusion: The clinical application of ECE-LAMS is relatively safe and reliable but more well-designed randomized trials and prospective studies are needed to evaluate the impact of this technology on therapeutic EUS, to improve the safety and success rate of EUS-guided LAMS implantation, and to expand its application in other indications. Background: Recent research has suggested that artemisinin and its derivatives may have therapeutic effects on parasites, viruses, tumors, inflammation and skin diseases. This study aimed to review clinical research on artemisinin and its derivatives except anti-malaria and explore possible priority areas for future development. Methods: Relevant articles in English and Chinese published before 28 October 2021 were reviewed. All articles were retrieved and obtained from databases including WanFang, PubMed/MEDLINE, the Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge International, Embase, OpenGrey, the Grey Literature Report, Grey Horizon, and ClinicalTrials.gov. Studies were selected for final inclusion based on predefined criteria. Information was then extracted and analyzed by region, disease, outcome, and time to identify relevant knowledge gaps. Results: Seventy-seven studies on anti-parasitic (35), anti-tumor (16), anti-inflammatory (12), anti-viral (8), and dermatological treatments (7) focused on the safety and efficacy of artemisinin and its derivatives. The anti-parasitic clinical research developed rapidly, with a large number of trials, rapid clinical progress, and multiple research topics. In contrast, anti-viral research was limited and mainly stayed in phase I clinical trials (37.50%). Most of the studies were conducted in Asia (60%), followed by Africa (27%), Europe (8%), and the Americas (5%). Anti-parasite and anti-inflammatory research were mainly distributed in less developed continents such as Asia and Africa, while cutting-edge research such as anti-tumor has attracted more attention in Europe and the United States. At the safety level, 58 articles mentioned the adverse reactions of artemisinin and its derivatives, with only one study showing a Grade 3 adverse event, while the other studies did not show any related adverse reactions or required discontinuation. Most studies have discovered therapeutic effects of artemisinin or its derivatives on anti-parasitic (27), anti-tumor (9), anti-inflammatory (9) and dermatological treatment (6). However, the efficacy of artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs) for parasitic diseases (non-malaria) is still controversial. Conclusions: Recent clinical studies suggest that artemisinin and its derivatives may be safe and effective candidates for anti-tumor, anti-parasitic, anti-inflammatory and dermatological drugs. Computed tomography (CT) offers detailed insights into the internal anatomy of patients, particularly for spinal vertebrae examination. However, CT scans are associated with higher radiation exposure and cost compared to conventional X-ray imaging. In this study, we applied a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) framework to reconstruct 3D spinal vertebrae structures from synthetic biplanar X-ray images, specifically focusing on anterior and lateral views. The synthetic X-ray images were generated using the DRRGenerator module in 3D Slicer by incorporating segmentations of spinal vertebrae in CT scans for the region of interest. This approach leverages a novel feature fusion technique based on X2CT-GAN to combine information from both views and employs a combination of mean squared error (MSE) loss and adversarial loss to train the generator, resulting in high-quality synthetic 3D spinal vertebrae CTs. A total of n = 440 CT data were processed. We evaluated the performance of our model using multiple metrics, including mean absolute error (MAE) (for each slice of the 3D volume (MAE0) and for the entire 3D volume (MAE)), cosine similarity, peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), 3D peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR-3D), and structural similarity index (SSIM). The average PSNR was 28.394 dB, PSNR-3D was 27.432, SSIM was 0.468, cosine similarity was 0.484, MAE0 was 0.034, and MAE was 85.359. The results demonstrated the effectiveness of this approach in reconstructing 3D spinal vertebrae structures from biplanar X-rays, although some limitations in accurately capturing the fine bone structures and maintaining the precise morphology of the vertebrae were present. This technique has the potential to enhance the diagnostic capabilities of low-cost X-ray machines while reducing radiation exposure and cost associated with CT scans, paving the way for future applications in spinal imaging and diagnosis. Circulating tumor cells (CTCs), which are shed from primary tumor or metastatic sites into the bloodstream and subsequently seed into distant tissues, are considered as the precursors of metastases. Gastric cancer (GC) is a highly heterogeneous malignant tumor. With regard to the diagnosis of GC, secondary pathological biopsy is difficult, while invasive examination is harmful to patients. In recent years, CTCs have made great progress in tumor diagnosis, prognosis prediction, efficacy detection and treatment guidance, but the research on the role of CTCs in GC remains limited. The following sections review the landmark studies demonstrating the technical approaches of CTCs monitoring in the field of GC. Moreover, we highlight the clinical application of CTCs numbers and phenotypes in monitoring the therapeutic efficacy and judging patient prognosis by sequential blood analyses. Urinary calculi are frequently encountered in urology. Traditionally, the lack of a perfect water injection and drainage system means the observation field is affected during ureteroscopy. Here, we explored the effect and clinical value of a new integrated suctioning semi-rigid ureteroscopic lithotripsy (URSL) for treating ureteral calculi. A total of 180 patients were successfully enrolled in this study (60 in each group). Group A included patients who underwent a traditional semi-rigid URSL, group B included patients who underwent a suctioning semi-rigid URSL with a sheath being connected to a vacuum device, and group C included patients who underwent a new type of suctioning integrated rigid URSL with a novel designed ureteroscope. In total, 164 cases of URSL were completed in one stage. Compared with group A, group C had a higher stone-clearance rate at 30 days postoperatively, shorter operation time, and fewer hospitalization days (p <.05); compared with group B, group C had a higher one-stage operation success rate, shorter operation time, and fewer hospitalization days (p <.05). Comparatively, the new suctioning integrated semi-rigid URSL is advantageous for treating upper urinary calculi, considering the reduced operation time, length of hospital stay, and low invasiveness. Cancer stands as a serious malady, posing substantial risks to human well‐being and survival. This underscores the paramount necessity to explore and investigate novel antitumor medications. Nitrogen‐containing compounds, especially those derived from natural sources, form a highly significant category of antitumor agents. Among these, antitumor agents with six‐membered aromatic nitrogen heterocycles have consistently attracted the attention of chemists and pharmacologists. Accordingly, we present a comprehensive summary of synthetic strategies and clinical implications of these compounds in this review. This entails an in‐depth analysis of synthesis pathways for pyridine, quinoline, pyrimidine, and quinazoline. Additionally, we explore the historical progression, targets, mechanisms of action, and clinical effectiveness of small molecule inhibitors possessing these structural features. The mechanisms of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain incompletely elucidated. Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) has enabled the profiling of single-cell transcriptomes at unprecedented resolution and throughput, which is critical for deciphering cardiovascular cellular heterogeneity and underlying disease mechanisms, thereby facilitating the development of therapeutic strategies. In this review, we summarize cellular heterogeneity in cardiovascular homeostasis and diseases as well as the discovery of potential disease targets based on scRNA-seq, and yield new insights into the promise of scRNA-seq technology in precision medicine and clinical application. Amphotericin B (AmB) is regarded as a first-line therapy against life-threatening invasive fungal infections. Due to its poor oral bioavailability, AmB is restricted to intravenous administration in clinical practice. As science continues to move forward, two lipid-based formulations are successfully developed for oral AmB administration, currently undergoing phase I clinical trials. Encouragingly, lipid-AmB conjugates with emulsions also exhibit a better bioavailability, which may be another strategy to design oral AmB formulation in clinical practice. Thus, this review mainly focused on the two lipid-based formulations in clinical trials, and discussed the potential perspectives of AmB-lipid conjugation-loaded nanocochleates and emulsions. Protein degradation is a general process to maintain cell homeostasis. The intracellular protein quality control system mainly includes the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and the lysosome pathway. Inspired by the physiological process, strategies to degrade specific proteins have developed, which emerge as potent and effective tools in biological research and drug discovery. This review focuses on recent advances in targeted protein degradation techniques, summarizing the principles, advantages, and challenges. Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common and socioeconomically relevant diseases, with rising incidence and prevalence especially with regard to an ageing population in the Western world. Over the decades, the scientific perception of OA has shifted from a simple degeneration of cartilage and bone to a multifactorial disease involving various cell types and immunomodulatory factors. Despite a wide range of conventional treatment modalities available, a significant proportion of patients remain treatment refractory. Low-dose radiotherapy (LDRT) has been used for decades in the treatment of patients with inflammatory and/or degenerative diseases and has proven a viable option even in cohorts of patients with a rather poor prognosis. While its justification mainly derives from a vast body of empirical evidence, prospective randomized trials have until now failed to prove the effectiveness of LDRT. Nevertheless, over the decades, adaptions of LDRT treatment modalities have evolved using lower dosages with establishment of different treatment schedules for which definitive clinical proof is still pending. Preclinical research has revealed that the immune system is modulated by LDRT and very recently osteoimmunological mechanisms have been described. Future studies and investigations further elucidating the underlying mechanisms are an essential key to clarify the optimal patient stratification and treatment procedure, considering the patients' inflammatory status, age, and sex. The present review aims not only to present clinical and preclinical knowledge about the mechanistic and beneficial effects of LDRT, but also to emphasize topics that will need to be addressed in future studies. Further, a concise overview of the current status of the underlying radiobiological knowledge of LDRT for clinicians is given, while seeking to stimulate further translational research. With the emphasis on intestinal health, probiotics have exploded into a vast market potential. However, new scientific evidence points out that the beneficial health benefits of probiotics are not necessarily directly related to viable bacteria. However, the metabolites or bacterial components of the live bacteria are the driving force behind health promotion. Therefore, scientists gradually noticed that the beneficial effects of probiotics are based on bacteria itself, metabolites, or cell lysates, and these factors are officially named "postbiotics" by the ISAPP. Postbiotic components are diverse and outperform live probiotics in terms of technology, safety, and cost due to their good absorption, metabolism, and organismal distribution. Postbiotics have been shown to have bioactivities such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative, and immunomodulation. Moreover, numerous studies have revealed the significant potential of postbiotics for disease treatment. This paper first presents the production and classification of postbiotics with examples from lactic acid bacteria (LAB), followed by the mechanisms of action with the most recent pre-clinical and clinical studies and the wide range of non-clinical and clinical applications of postbiotics. Furthermore, the current and future prospects of the postbiotic market with commercial available products are discussed. Duhuo Jisheng Decoction affects the synthesis and apoptosis of bone and cartilage by inhibiting the expression of ASFla and HIRA, reducing the levels of cytochrome C and nitric oxide, and regulating some inflammatory factors. The application examples of Duhuo Jisheng Decoction in different bone trauma and reconstruction have confirmed that it has a good effect in the application of common orthopedic diseases such as lumbocrural pain, arthritis, and scapulohumeral periarthritis. Based on the pharmacological analysis of Duhuo Jisheng Decoction, this paper reviews the clinical application of Duhuo Jisheng Decoction in the treatment of orthopedic diseases. Objective To explore the clinical application of the risk assessment table for predicting and managing pulmonary complications after spinal surgery, and to verify its effectiveness. Methods A prospective study was conducted on patients who underwent spinal surgery in this hospital from June to December 2020, and the risk assessment table was used to evaluate and score them. The area under receiver characteristic curve (ROC curve) (AUC) was used to evaluate the effect of the prediction model combining sensitivity and specificity, the cutoff point with the largest sum of the two was selected as the boundary value to determine the criteria for identifying high-risk patients. Results A total of 388 patients were included in the study, of which 28 patients (7.22%) had postoperative pulmonary complications, including 19 cases of pulmonary inflammation, six cases of pleural effusion and three cases of respiratory failure. The AUC under the ROC curve of preoperative evaluation score was 0.855, which showed that the evaluation had high accuracy. The AUC under the ROC curve of the postoperative evaluation score was 0.759, and that pre-discharge was 0.769, indicating that the evaluation result was reliable. According to the comprehensive sensitivity and specificity, the results showed that the spinal surgery patients with a total score of preoperative evaluation was more than 6.5 points, the total score of postoperative evaluation was more than 15.5 points, and the total score of more than 15.5 in the pre-discharge assessment had a higher risk of postoperative pulmonary complications. Conclusion The clinical effect of the risk assessment table is reliable, which provides an effective reference for objectively quantifying the risk of pulmonary complications after spinal surgery. Background: In the field of minimally invasive surgery, the two-port laparoscopic surgery is on the rise. This study investigated the safety and efficacy of two-port laparoscopic surgery (TLS) for resecting sigmoid colon and upper rectal cancers compared with conventional laparoscopic surgery (CLS). Methods: The clinical data of patients undergoing laparoscopic sigmoid colon cancer and upper rectal cancer resection at the Department of General Surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Gannan Medical College between July 2019 and January 2022 were retrospectively collected. Grouped according to different laparoscopic surgery. Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria,A total of 81 patients were enrolled, of the 25 patients from the TLS group,and of the 56 patients from the CLS group. We mainly compared whether there were statistical differences between the two groups in terms of operative time, intraoperative bleeding, incision length, time to first ambulation, time to first flatus, time to first defecation, postoperative complication rate, and other surgical outcomes. Results: There was no statistical difference between the two groups in terms of baseline clinical characteristics (P > 0.05). In terms of the surgical outcomes, there were statistical differences in the total incision length (TLS: 6.21 ± 0.67 cm, CLS: 8.64 ± 1.08 cm, P < 0.001)), time to first ambulation (TLS: 2.0 ± 0.7 d, CLS:3.1 ± 0.9 d, P < 0.001), time to first flatus (TLS: 2.5 ± 0.8 d, CLS: 3.0 ± 0.8 d, P = 0.028), time to first defecation (TLS: 3.8 ± 1.3 d, CLS: 5.1 ± 2.1 d, P = 0.010), and time for liquid diet (TLS: 4.3 ± 1.4 d, CLS: 5.3 ± 1.9 d, P = 0.021). There was no statistical difference between the two groups in terms of the pathology (P > 0.05). Conclusion: In terms of safety, TLS in sigmoid colon and upper rectal cancer resection is comparable to CLS. However, its incision is smaller and more aesthetic, and it causes lesser trauma than CLS. Simple Summary: Counting the number of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in blood samples has been recognized as being clinically useful. However, challenges like the rarity and heterogeneity of CTCs have limited their widespread use in clinical practice. To address these challenges, a feasible direction is to combine the CTC counts with the routinely used clinical data relevant to cancer detection or screening for analysis. Recent studies demonstrate that this innovative approach has successfully improved cancer detection, prognosis, assessment, and the ability to differentiate between cancers at various stages and with different characteristics. The combination of CTC counts with clinical parameters represents a promising avenue for enhancing the clinical applicability of CTC analysis in cancer management. Analysis of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) holds promise to diagnose cancer or monitor its development. Among the methods, counting CTC numbers in blood samples could be the simplest way to implement it. Nevertheless, its clinical utility has not yet been fully accepted. The reasons could be due to the rarity and heterogeneity of CTCs in blood samples that could lead to misleading results from assays only based on single CTC counts. To address this issue, a feasible direction is to combine the CTC counts with other clinical data for analysis. Recent studies have demonstrated the use of this new strategy for early detection and prognosis evaluation of cancers, or even for the distinguishment of cancers with different stages. Overall, this approach could pave a new path to improve the technical problems in the clinical applications of CTC counting techniques. In this review, the information relevant to CTCs, including their characteristics, clinical use of CTC counting, and technologies for CTC enrichment, were first introduced. Ultra-high dose rate radiotherapy (FLASH-RT) is an external beam radiotherapy strategy that uses an extremely high dose rate (≥40 Gy/s). Compared with conventional dose rate radiotherapy (≤0.1 Gy/s), the main advantage of FLASH-RT is that it can reduce damage of organs at risk surrounding the cancer and retain the anti-tumor effect. An important feature of FLASH-RT is that an extremely high dose rate leads to an extremely short treatment time; therefore, in clinical applications, the steps of radiotherapy may need to be adjusted. In this review, we discuss the selection of indications, simulations, target delineation, selection of radiotherapy technologies, and treatment plan evaluation for FLASH-RT to provide a theoretical basis for future research. Ganoderma is the dried fruiting bodiy of Ganoderma lucidum (Leyss.ex Fr.) Karst. or Ganoderma sinense Zhao, Xu et Zhang, belonging to the family Polyporaceae, which grows mainly in tropical, subtropical, and temperate regions. As a traditional Chinese medicine, Ganoderma has been used in China for more than 2000 years because of its medicinal properties, such as relieving cough and asthma, providing nourishment, and strengthening. Currently, more than 470 natural compounds have been obtained from the fungus, mainly including terpenoids, steroids, alkaloids, phenols, and other types of compounds. Modern pharmacological studies have shown that Ganoderma has antitumor, anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic, hypolipidemic, and immunomodulatory effects. It is mainly used in clinical practice for the treatment of Diabetic Nephropathy and malignant tumors, with few side effects and high safety. This paper reviews the progress of research on its chemical composition, pharmacological effects, and clinical applications, with the goal of providing a basis for the better development and utilization of Ganoderma. Huobahuagen tablet is a traditional Chinese medicine preparation made from the root of Tripterygium wilfordii Hook. f. Kunming Shanhaitang. Clinical application proves that it has anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects. Huobahuagen tablet has the advantages of less adverse reactions and higher efficiency on the basis of hormone-like effects, which is mainly used in the clinical treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and lupus erythematosus. However, in recent years, literature have shown that the drug can also be applied to kidney disease, and achieved significant clinical efficacy. In this paper, the etiology and pathogenesis of chronic kidney disease, such as dampness, heat and stasis are discussed. Intracranial compliance (ICC) holds significant potential in neuromonitoring, serving as a diagnostic tool and contributing to the evaluation of treatment outcomes. Despite its comprehensive concept, which allows consideration of changes in both volume and intracranial pressure (ICP), ICC monitoring has not yet established itself as a standard component of medical care, unlike ICP monitoring. This review highlighted that the first challenge is the assessment of ICC values, because of the invasive nature of direct measurement, the time-consuming aspect of non-invasive calculation through computer simulations, and the inability to quantify ICC values in estimation methods. Addressing these challenges is crucial, and the development of a rapid, non-invasive computer simulation method could alleviate obstacles in quantifying ICC. Additionally, this review indicated the second challenge in the clinical application of ICC, which involves the dynamic and time-dependent nature of ICC. This was considered by introducing the concept of time elapsed (TE) in measuring the changes in volume or ICP in the ICC equation (volume change/ICP change). The choice of TE, whether short or long, directly influences the ICC values that must be considered in the clinical application of the ICC. Compensatory responses of the brain exhibit non-monotonic and variable changes in long TE assessments for certain disorders, contrasting with the mono-exponential pattern observed in short TE assessments. Furthermore, the recovery behavior of the brain undergoes changes during the treatment process of various brain disorders when exposed to short and long TE conditions. The review also highlighted differences in ICC values across brain disorders with various strain rates and loading durations on the brain, further emphasizing the dynamic nature of ICC for clinical application. The insight provided in this review may prove valuable to professionals in neurocritical care, neurology, and neurosurgery for standardizing ICC monitoring in practical application related to the diagnosis and evaluation of treatment outcomes in brain disorders. Breast cancer is the most malignant tumor in women, and there is no absolute cure for it. Although treatment modalities including surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy are utilized for breast cancer, it is still a life‐threatening disease for humans. Nanomedicine has provided a new opportunity in breast cancer treatment, which is the focus of the current study. The nanocarriers deliver chemotherapeutic agents and natural products, both of which increase cytotoxicity against breast tumor cells and prevent the development of drug resistance. The efficacy of gene therapy is boosted by nanoparticles and the delivery of CRISPR/Cas9, Noncoding RNAs, and RNAi, promoting their potential for gene expression regulation. The drug and gene codelivery by nanoparticles can exert a synergistic impact on breast tumors and enhance cellular uptake via endocytosis. Nanostructures are able to induce photothermal and photodynamic therapy for breast tumor ablation via cell death induction. The nanoparticles can provide tumor microenvironment remodeling and repolarization of macrophages for antitumor immunity. The stimuli‐responsive nanocarriers, including pH‐, redox‐, and light‐sensitive, can mediate targeted suppression of breast tumors. Besides, nanoparticles can provide a diagnosis of breast cancer and detect biomarkers. Various kinds of nanoparticles have been employed for breast cancer therapy, including carbon‐, lipid‐, polymeric‐ and metal‐based nanostructures, which are different in terms of biocompatibility and delivery efficiency. Smilacis Glabrae Rhizoma (SGR) is recognized in traditional Chinese medicine for its distinctive therapeutic properties and abundant supply. Its phytochemical profile is diverse, encompassing flavonoids, steroids, saccharides, phenolic glycosides, volatile constituents, organic acids, phenylpropanoids, stilbenoids, among others. Recent pharmacological investigations reveal that SGR possesses a broad spectrum of pharmacological effects with multifaceted clinical applications. This review collates the current knowledge on SGR's chemical composition, pharmacological activities, and its clinical utility. Utilizing network pharmacology and molecular docking approaches, this study provides a preliminary identification of potential quality markers (Q-Markers) within SGR. The findings suggest that compounds such as astilbin, isoengelitin, neoisoastilbin, neoastilbin, astragaloside, diosgenin, resveratrol, stigmasterol, β-sitosterol, and quercetin in SGR are promising candidates for Q-Markers. While flavonoids are the most extensively studied, there is a pressing need to further explore the active monomeric compounds within SGR. The introduction of Q-Markers is instrumental in developing standardized quality metrics. Specifically, astilbin has been noted for its antitumor, antidiabetic, antihypertensive, anti-hyperuricemic, and hepatoprotective potential, warranting further research for therapeutic applications.

Abstract Background Stem cell‐based therapy (SCT) is an important component of regenerative therapy that brings hope to many patients. After decades of development, SCT has made significant progress in the research of various diseases, and the market size has also expanded significantly. The transition of SCT from small‐scale, customized experiments to routine clinical practice requires the assistance of standards. Many countries and international organizations around the world have developed corresponding SCT standards, which have effectively promoted the further development of the SCT industry. Methods We conducted a comprehensive literature review to introduce the clinical application progress of SCT and focus on the development status of SCT standardization. Results We first briefly introduced the types and characteristics of stem cells, and summarized the current clinical application and market development of SCT. Subsequently, we focused on the development status of SCT‐related standards as of now from three levels: the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), important international organizations, and national organizations. Finally, we provided perspectives and conclusions on the significance and challenges of SCT standardization. Conclusions Standardization plays an important role in the sustained, rapid and healthy development of SCT.

Exosomes carry proteins, metabolites, nucleic acids and lipids from their parent cell of origin. They are derived from cells through exocytosis, are ingested by target cells, and can transfer biological signals between local or distant cells. Therefore, exosomes are often modified in reaction to pathological processes, including infection, cancer, cardiovascular diseases and in response to metabolic perturbations such as obesity and diabetes, all of which involve a significant inflammatory aspect. Here, we discuss how immune cell-derived exosomes origin from neutrophils, T lymphocytes, macrophages impact on the immune reprogramming of diabetes and the associated complications. Besides, exosomes derived from stem cells and their immunomodulatory properties and anti-inflammation effect in diabetes are also reviewed. Moreover, As an important addition to previous reviews, we describes promising directions involving engineered exosomes as well as current challenges of clinical applications in diabetic therapy. Further research on exosomes will explore their potential in translational medicine and provide new avenues for the development of effective clinical diagnostics and therapeutic strategies for immunoregulation of diabetes.

Introduction: It is known that patients with immune-abnormal co-pregnancies are at a higher risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes. Traditional pregnancy risk management systems have poor prediction abilities for adverse pregnancy outcomes in such patients, with many limitations in clinical application. In this study, we will use machine learning to screen high-risk factors for miscarriage and develop a miscarriage risk prediction model for patients with immune-abnormal pregnancies. This model aims to provide an adjunctive tool for the clinical identification of patients at high risk of miscarriage and to allow for active intervention to reduce adverse pregnancy outcomes.Methods: Patients with immune-abnormal pregnancies attending Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital were collected through electronic medical records (EMR). The data were divided into a training set and a test set in an 8:2 ratio. Comparisons were made to evaluate the performance of traditional pregnancy risk assessment tools for clinical applications. This analysis involved assessing the cost-benefit of clinical treatment, evaluating the model's performance, and determining its economic value. Data sampling methods, feature screening, and machine learning algorithms were utilized to develop predictive models. These models were internally validated using 10-fold cross-validation for the training set and externally validated using bootstrapping for the test set. Model performance was assessed by the area under the characteristic curve (AUC). Based on the best parameters, a predictive model for miscarriage risk was developed, and the SHapley additive expansion (SHAP) method was used to assess the best model feature contribution.Results: A total of 565 patients were included in this study on machine learning-based models for predicting the risk of miscarriage in patients with immune-abnormal pregnancies. Twenty-eight risk warning models were developed, and the predictive model constructed using XGBoost demonstrated the best performance with an AUC of 0.9209. The SHAP analysis of the best model highlighted the total number of medications, as well as the use of aspirin and low molecular weight heparin, as significant influencing factors. The implementation of the pregnancy risk scoring rules resulted in accuracy, precision, and F1 scores of 0.3009, 0.1663, and 0.2852, respectively. The economic evaluation showed a saving of ¥7,485,865.7 due to the model.Conclusion: The predictive model developed in this study performed well in estimating the risk of miscarriage in patients with immune-abnormal pregnancies. The findings of the model interpretation identified the total number of medications and the use of other medications during pregnancy as key factors in the early warning model for miscarriage risk. This provides an important basis for early risk assessment and intervention in immune-abnormal pregnancies. The predictive model developed in this study demonstrated better risk prediction performance than the Pregnancy Risk Management System (PRMS) and also demonstrated economic value. Therefore, miscarriage risk prediction in patients with immune-abnormal pregnancies may be the most cost-effective management method.

Due to high proliferative capacity, multipotent differentiation, immunomodulatory abilities, and lack of ethical concerns, dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) are promising candidates for clinical application. Currently, clinical research on DPSCs is in its early stages. The reason for the failure to obtain clinically effective results may be problems with the production process of DPSCs. Due to the different preparation methods and reagent formulations of DPSCs, cell characteristics may be affected and lead to inconsistent experimental results. Preparation of clinical-grade DPSCs is far from ready. To achieve clinical application, it is essential to transit the manufacturing of stem cells from laboratory grade to clinical grade. This review compares and analyzes experimental data on optimizing the preparation methods of DPSCs from extraction to resuscitation, including research articles, invention patents and clinical trials. The advantages and disadvantages of various methods and potential clinical applications are discussed, and factors that could improve the quality of DPSCs for clinical application are proposed. The aim is to summarize the current manufacture of DPSCs in the establishment of a standardized, reliable, safe, and economic method for future preparation of clinical-grade cell products.

Artificial intelligence (AI) systems based on deep learning have evolved in the past decade, and their applications in the field of gastrointestinal endoscopy have expanded exponentially. Gastrointestinal endoscopy relies primarily on images for diagnosis and treatment decisions. By using convolutional neural networks and training them with large numbers of examples from databases, They can be used to assist in diagnosis during endoscopy, or what is called computer-aided detection (CADe), and to determine the nature of lesions, or what is called computer-aided characterization (CADx). Artificial intelligence systems have been used to detect and classify colonic polyps, detect and evaluate the depth of early gastric cancer, detect dysplasia in Barrett’s esophagus, determine the severity of inflammatory bowel diseases, in addition to detecting various abnormalities in capsule endoscopy. Through these systems, it was possible to improve the detection rate and quality of endoscopy. We still need multicenter, randomized trials to better evaluate the use of AI in real-time endoscopy. This review aims to discuss the available studies related to artificial intelligence in gastrointestinal endoscopy, discuss its clinical applications, and point out future directions in this field.

Synthetic lethality is a phenomenon wherein the simultaneous deficiency of two or more genes results in cell death, while the deficiency of any individual gene does not lead to cell death. In recent years, synthetic lethality has emerged as a significant topic in the field of targeted cancer therapy, with certain drugs based on this concept exhibiting promising outcomes in clinical trials. Nevertheless, the presence of tumor heterogeneity and the intricate DNA repair mechanisms pose challenges to the effective implementation of synthetic lethality. This review aims to explore the concepts, development, and ethical quandaries surrounding synthetic lethality. Additionally, it will provide an in-depth analysis of the clinical application and underlying mechanism of synthetic lethality.

Depression is considered to be an “emotional disease” in ancient books of traditional Chinese medicine. Its clinical features are similar to those of “Lily disease” in the ancient Chinese medicine book Synopsis of the Golden Chamber written by Zhang Zhongjing in the Han Dynasty. Baihe Zhimu (Lilium lancifolium bulb and Anemarrhena asphodeloides rhizome) decoction (LBRAD) is the first prescription of “Lily Disease” in this book. It is also a special remedy for “Lily disease” after sweating. The classic recipe LBRAD consists of two herbs, fresh lily bulbs and dried Rhizoma Anemarrhena slice. It has the effect of supplementing nutrition and clearing heat, nourishing Yin and moistening. After more than two thousand years of clinical practice, it has been currently widely used in clinical treatment of depression. In this paper, the relationship between LBRAD and depression was systematically reviewed from both clinical and experimental studies, as well as the preparation, the clinical application, the pharmacological mechanism and the effective material basis for the treating depression of LBRAD. The core targets and biological processes of the depression treatment were explored through network pharmacological analysis, so as to speculate its potential mechanism. Finally, the association between LBRAD and post-COVID-19 depression was discussed. We concluded with a summary and future prospects. This review may provide a theoretical basis for the expansion of the clinical application of LBRAD and the development of new drugs for the treatment of depression, as well as new ideas for the secondary development of classical prescriptions.

Abstract Background Cells have been increasingly known to release extracellular vesicles (EVs) to the extracellular environment under physiological and pathological conditions. A plethora of studies have revealed that EVs contain cell-derived biomolecules and are found in circulation, thereby implicating them in molecular trafficking between cells. Furthermore, EVs have an effect on physiological function and disease development and serve as disease biomarkers. Main body Given the close association between EV circulation and vascular disease, this review aims to provide a brief introduction to EVs, with a specific focus on the EV cargoes participating in pathological mechanisms, diagnosis, engineering, and clinical potential, to highlight the emerging evidence suggesting promising targets in vascular diseases. Despite the expansion of research in this field, some noticeable limitations remain for clinical translational research. Conclusion This review makes a novel contribution to a summary of recent advances and a perspective on the future of EVs in vascular diseases. Video Abstract

Abstract Current 3D scanning and printing technologies offer not only state-of-the-art developments in the field of medical imaging and bio-engineering, but also cost and time effective solutions for surgical reconstruction procedures. Besides tissue engineering, where living cells are used, bio-compatible polymers or synthetic resin can be applied. The combination of 3D handheld scanning devices or volumetric imaging, (open-source) image processing packages, and 3D printers form a complete workflow chain that is capable of effective rapid prototyping of outer ear replicas. This paper reviews current possibilities and latest use cases for 3D-scanning, data processing and printing of outer ear replicas with a focus on low-cost solutions for rehabilitation engineering.

Abstract Objectives This study intends to build an artificial intelligence model for obstetric cesarean section surgery to evaluate the intraoperative blood transfusion volume before operation, and compare the model prediction results with the actual results to evaluate the accuracy of the artificial intelligence prediction model for intraoperative red blood cell transfusion in obstetrics. The advantages and disadvantages of intraoperative blood demand and identification of high-risk groups for blood transfusion provide data support and improvement suggestions for the realization of accurate blood management of obstetric cesarean section patients during the perioperative period. Methods Using a machine learning algorithm, an intraoperative blood transfusion prediction model was trained. The differences between the predicted results and the actual results were compared by means of blood transfusion or not, blood transfusion volume, and blood transfusion volume targeting postoperative hemoglobin (Hb). Results Area under curve of the model is 0.89. The accuracy of the model for blood transfusion was 96.85%. The statistical standard for the accuracy of the model blood transfusion volume is the calculation of 1U absolute error, the accuracy rate is 86.56%, and the accuracy rate of the blood transfusion population is 45.00%. In the simulation prediction results, 93.67% of the predicted and actual cases in no blood transfusion surgery; 63.45% of the same predicted blood transfusion in blood transfusion surgery, and only 20.00% of the blood transfusion volume is the same. Conclusions In conclusion, this study used machine learning algorithm to process, analyze and predict the results of a large sample of cesarean section clinical data, and found that the important predictors of blood transfusion during cesarean section included preoperative RBC, surgical method, the site of surgery, coagulation-related indicators, and other factors. At the same time, it was found that the overall accuracy of the AI model was higher than actual blood using. Although the prediction of blood transfusion volume was not well matched with the actual blood using, the model provided a perspective of preoperative identification of high blood transfusion risks. The results can provide good auxiliary decision support for preoperative evaluation of obstetric cesarean section, and then promote the realization of accurate perioperative blood management for obstetric cesarean section patients.

Abstract Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) is a rare but highly aggressive kind of thyroid cancer. Various therapeutic methods have been considered for the treatment of ATC, but its prognosis remains poor. With the advent of the nanomedicine era, the use of nanotechnology has been introduced in the treatment of various cancers and has shown great potential and broad prospects in ATC treatment. The current review meticulously describes and summarizes the research progress of various nanomedicine-based therapeutic methods of ATC, including chemotherapy, differentiation therapy, radioiodine therapy, gene therapy, targeted therapy, photothermal therapy, and combination therapy. Furthermore, potential future challenges and opportunities for the currently developed nanomedicines for ATC treatment are discussed. As far as we know, there are few reviews focusing on the nanomedicine of ATC therapy, and it is believed that this review will generate widespread interest from researchers in a variety of fields to further expedite preclinical research and clinical translation of ATC nanomedicines.

Abstract Liver disease is a leading cause of mortality and morbidity that is rising globally. Liver dysfunctions are classified into acute and chronic diseases. Various insults, including viral infections, alcohol or drug abuse, and metabolic overload, may cause chronic inflammation and fibrosis, leading to irreversible liver dysfunction. Up to now, liver transplantation could be the last resort for patients with end-stage liver disease. However, liver transplantation still faces unavoidable difficulties. Mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (MSCs) with their broad ranging anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties can be effectively used for treating liver diseases but without the limitation that are associated with liver transplantation. In this review, we summarize and discuss recent advances in the characteristics of MSCs and the potential action mechanisms of MSCs-based cell therapies for liver diseases. We also draw attention to strategies to potentiate the therapeutic properties of MSCs through pre-treatments or gene modifications. Finally, we discuss progress toward clinical application of MSCs or their extracellular vesicles in liver diseases.
