Abstract

Abstract Background Chronic disease knowledge is an important prerequisite for an individual to implement behavioural changes towards the prevention and control of chronic diseases (CDs). Limited information is available about the relationship between different levels of health services and CD knowledge among rural residents with CDs. This research explores the distribution characteristics of CD knowledge and its determinants among chronically ill adults in rural China according to the aspects of patients and health service providers. Methods A cross-sectional study was undertaken to estimate distribution characteristics of CD knowledge and collect data of socio-demographic characteristics, healthcare institutions attendances, duration of illness, and family history of CDs. Participants were 1060 rural adults with hypertension or type II diabetes. Correct responses to 12 questions were summed into a total knowledge score, and participants were divided into an adequate health knowledge group (score ≥ 6) or an inadequate health knowledge group (score < 5). Logistic regression was used determine the predictors of adequate CD health knowledge. Results The mean age of participants was 61.34 years (SD = 10 years). Out of a possible 12, the median score on the CD knowledge questionnaire was 3.0. About 25% of participants were classified as having adequate CD knowledge. Those who had a family history and/or long duration of CDs were more likely to have adequate health knowledge. Participants who received CD health information and self-care instructions from their physicians had 2.67 and 13.34 times greater odds of possessing adequate health knowledge than those who received no information, respectively. Adequate CD knowledge was strongly associated with regular check-ups, especially for those who attended township hospitals (OR = 40.17). Conclusions Having regular check-ups at a fixed healthcare institution and receiving health information from physicians are important measures for increasing CD knowledge among rural adults with CDs. Township hospitals are the most effective settings for health education. It is important to develop an effective community-based prevention and control mechanism for CDs. This requires township hospitals to take a leading role in improving CD knowledge among chronically ill patients, and enhancing implementation of health education in rural China.

Abstract

Dempster-Shafer(DS) evidence theory can usually distinguish the uncertain information and the unknown information in a weaker constraint condition than the probability theory and Bayes' theorem. It is an efficient tool in information fusion, target recognition and decision-making under uncertain environments. But, the high conflict between evidences can generate fusion results contrary to practice in DS evidence theory. It is unavoidable that high conflict evidences are caused by noise or interference in practice, especially for the sensor data. In order to decrease the influence of the high conflict and noise or interference on the fusion results, in this paper, a new modification algorithm is proposed to improve the performance of DS evidence theory by modifying the evidence sources and the combination rule together. Firstly, in order to make full use of not only the basic probability assignments (BPAs) but the cardinality of focal elements, in the modification algorithm, a novel concept called the evolution function is defined in the form of the prior information ratio of focal elements' energy. Secondly, with a threshold of the average conflict coefficient between evidences, the evidence sources are modified by using the evolution function. Finally, based on the conflict information and the prior information, a modification method of the combination rule is presented by using the evolution function and the conflict coefficient in the modification algorithm. The experiment results prove the accuracy and the effectiveness of the proposed modification algorithm.

Abstract

Numerical simulations of the power influences to the wing-mounted civil aircraft aerodynamic characteristics are presented. Three-dimensional time-dependent compressible Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations were solved. The point-to-point patched multiblock technology was used to generate the high-quality grid. For simulating the engine power effects, the jet inlet and jet exit boundary conditions were properly specified. The simulation results and their comparisons with the experimental data are presented for two test cases: an isolated engine and the DLR F6 wing–body/pylon/nacelle combination. The simulated and experimental results are quite similar, indicating the mesh quality and numerical methods are adequate in this study. Finally, flowfields around a realistic wing-mounted aircraft cruise and high-lift configuration were simulated. The numerical results indicate that the power changes the local flowfield, therefore causing certain changes to the aerodynamic characteristics.

Abstract

Obesity is characterized by expansion of adipose tissue, which results from an increase in adipocyte number (adipogenesis) and adipocyte size (lipogenesis). A reversal of these processes has been suggested to be a potential antiobetic therapy. Rutaecarpine (Rut) and its novel analogues (R17 and R18) were identified to exert potent effect in reducing lipid accumulation during adipocyte differentiation in 3T3-L1 adipocytes with little cytotoxicity. All three compounds reduced lipid accumulation in a dose-dependent manner, while R17 and R18 exhibited much more potent inhibitory effects compared to that of Rut. Further studies showed that R17 suppressed both adipogenesis and lipogenesis during all stages of adipocyte differentiation as indicated by the reduced protein and mRNA levels of key regulators of adipogenesis/lipogenesis, including PPARγ, C/EBPα, SREBP-1c, ACC, FAS, and SCD-1. We next examined the effect of R17 on the UPR pathway and the results showed that the UPR markers (PERK, eIF2α, IRE1α, and spliced XBP1 mRNA) were all significantly reduced by R17. Further studies revealed that R17 persistently activated AMPK during differentiation, suggesting that the AMPK may be an upstream mechanism for the effect of R17 on adipogenesis and lipogenesis via the adipogenic/lipogenic markers and the UPR pathway. Finally, studies in fast/refeeding mice demonstrated that R17 administration was able to reduce epididymal fat mass and the levels of plasma TG and FFA in vivo. Our results suggest that rutaecarpine analogues may have therapeutic potential for obesity and related metabolic disorders. The mechanism involves the suppression of adipogenic/lipogenic proteins and the suppression of the UPR pathway possibly via the AMPK.

Abstract

For the problem that the flow separation on the flap lowers the aerodynamic performance of high lift system, an investigation was carried out on using micro vortex generators (VGs) to control the separation on flap of the swept constant chord half-model (SCCH) high-lift configuration, at a small to medium angle of attack, by experimental and numerical methods. The basic flow characteristics of SCCH landing configuration were analyzed by using numerical method to provide required information for the design of micro VGs. Then, by keeping the cruise configuration intact, the preliminary design procedure and design methods of micro VGs were established. In addition, the micro VGs were designed. The effects of VG’s arrangement and geometric parameters, such as the arrangement mode, chordwise position, arrangement angle, height and spanwise distance, on controlling efficiency were investigated by using numerical method. Then the parameters of preliminary VGs were adjusted as the basis configuration for wind tunnel test. The experiments were accomplished in NH-2 wind tunnel for validating the numerical method, as well as obtaining the design principles and methods of micro VGs. The parameters of VGs were also optimized based on the experiments. The experimental results showed that the numerical design method can serve as an efficient and accurate design tool. The lift and drag were increased by 10% and 14%, respectively in landing state, which satisfied the requirements for landing. Finally, it was concluded that the established design principles and methods for micro VGs in this investigation can be used in engineering application.

Abstract

Aiming at the shortcomings that MUSIC symmetrical compressed spectrum (MSCS) was only applicable to the sound pressure array, and the half spectrum search couldn't distinguish the space radiation source and the mirror radiation source, a vector sensors array MSCS energy azimuth estimation algorithm was proposed. The new study used the idea of dimensionality reduction to combine the sound pressure and the vibration velocity to reduce the 3D guidance vector to one dimension, so that MSCS algorithm could be applied to vector sensors array, and then introduced spatial energy spectral function to optimize MSCS to solve the problem that MSCS half spectrum search could not distinguish between the space radiation source and the mirror radiation source. As the energy spectrum function has good anti-noise performance, so the new algorithm's anti-noise performance can be greatly improved. 246. Research on the Corrosion Behavior of X70 Pipeline Steel Under Coupling Effect of AC + DC and Stress.

Abstract

The coupling effect of stray AC (alternating current) + DC (direct current) and tensile stress-induced X70 pipeline corrosion is complicated with its mechanism uncovered. In this work, the corrosion behavior of X70 pipeline steel under three different corrosion (including an individual AC corrosion, mixed AC + 150 MPa tensile stress corrosion, coupling effect of AC + a 30 A/m2 DC interference and 150 MPa tensile stress corrosion) conditions in Dagang soil simulated solution was investigated by COMSOL Multiphysics software simulation, electrochemical tests, scanning electron microscope and other techniques. The results indicated that with the increase in AC density, the open-circuit potential of the X70 steel samples was negatively shifted and corrosion rate increased in three different corrosion conditions. The corrosion rates of X70 steel samples under individual AC interference were almost unchanged when 150.9 MPa tensile stress was applied. When applying 30 A/m2 DC interference, the corrosion rate of X70 steel increases significantly. Therefore, the factors affecting corrosion performance of X70 pipeline steel were DC > AC > stress. Under individual AC interference, uniform corrosion occurred on the X70 steel at an AC current density of less than 30 A/m2, while the pitting corrosion occurred at an AC current density of greater than 100 A/m2.
