219. Tailoring the structure, mechanical, electronic, and thermodynamic properties of Al8Mn5by doping Ti atom with different atomic site configurations

Abstract

To solve the problem of the influence of Ti particles on Al8Mn5phases is difficult to observe from the experiments, the effects of Al8Mn5doped with Ti atom at different Wyckoff sites on its thermodynamic properties, mechanical properties, and electronic structural characteristics were systemically studied by first-principles calculations in this work. It was found that the doping of Ti can enhance the thermodynamic, dynamic, and mechanical stability, change the elastic anisotropy in different directions, and decrease the ductility of Al8Mn5. The calculated mechanical results showed that the bulk modulus decreased, while the Young's modulus (E), hardness (HV), and shear modulus improved for the Ti-doped Al8Mn5phases. The Al–Ti5 phase in Ti doping Al sites and the Mn–Ti3 phase in Ti doping Mn sites have the largest Ewith the values of 234.59 and 233.25 GPa, respectively. Additionally, the Al–Ti5 and the Mn–Ti3 phases have the highest HVof 16.24 and 16.06 GPa in Chen's model, and 14.31 and 14.48 GPa in Tian's model, respectively. The electronic structures and chemical bonding characteristic information elaborated that the improvement in mechanical properties is due to the improvement in Al–Mn and Al–Al bond strength.

235. Prognostic and Diagnostic Values of Semaphorin 5B and Its Correlation With Tumor-Infiltrating Immune Cells in Kidney Renal Clear-Cell Carcinoma

Abstract

Background: Semaphorin 5B (SEMA5B) has been described to be involved in the development and progression of cancer. However, the potential diagnostic and prognosis roles and its correlation with tumor-infiltrating immune cells in KIRC have not been clearly reported yet.Methods: The mRNA level of SEMA5B was analyzed via the TCGA and GTEx database as well as the CCLE dataset and verified by GSE53757 and GSE40435 datasets. Meanwhile, the protein level of SEMA5B was analyzed by CPTAC and validated by HPA. The diagnostic value of SEMA5B was analyzed according to the TCGA database and validated by GSE53757, GSE46699, and GSE11024 + GSE46699 datasets. Then, the survival analysis was conducted using GEPIA2. R software (v3.6.3) was applied to investigate the relevance between SEMA5B and immune checkpoints and m6A RNA methylation regulator expression. The correlation between SEMA5B and MMRs and DNMT expression and tumor-infiltrating immune cells was explored via TIMER2. Co-expressed genes of SEMA5B were assessed by cBioPortal, and enrichment analysis was conducted by Metascape. The methylation analysis was conducted with MEXPRESS and MethSurv online tools. Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) was applied to annotate the biological function of SEMA5B.Results: SEMA5B was significantly upregulated at both the mRNA and protein levels in KIRC. Further analysis demonstrated that the mRNA expression of SEMA5B was significantly correlated with gender, age, T stage, pathologic stage, and histologic grade. High levels of SEMA5B were found to be a favorable prognostic factor and novel diagnostic biomarker for KIRC. SEMA5B expression was shown to be significantly associated with the abundance of immune cells in KIRC. Also, SEMA5B expression was significantly correlated with the abundance of MMR genes, DNMTs, and m6A regulators in KIRC. Enrichment analysis indicated that the co-expressed genes may involve in crosslinking in the extracellular matrix (ECM). GSEA disclosed that SYSTEMIC_LUPUS_ERYTHEMATOSUS and NABA_ECM_REGULATORS were prominently enriched in the SEMA5B low-expression phenotype. Finally, the methylation analysis demonstrated a correlation between hypermethylation of the SEMA5B gene and a poor prognosis in KIRC.Conclusion: Increased SEMA5B expression correlated with immune cell infiltration, which can be served as a favorable prognostic factor and a novel diagnostic biomarker for KIRC.

236. Improved Corrosion Resistance of Ultrafine-Grained Mg-Gd-Zr Alloy Fabricated by Surface Friction Treatment

Abstract

Gradient ultrafine-grained (UFG) Mg-2Gd-0.4Zr (wt%) alloy sheet, with a UFG layer of about 118 nm on the topmost treated surface, was fabricated by sliding friction treatment (SFT). The corrosion resistance of the SFT-processed UFG surface layer was greatly improved compared to the original coarse-grained (CG) structure, representing as a higher impedance and a lower corrosion rate (CG: 4.11 mm y−1, UFG: 2.71 mm y−1). The UFG layer with high density of grain boundaries exhibits an excellent impeditive effect on the cracking of corrosion product films. Compared to the CG sample, the stable corrosion product film inhibits the formation of pitting so providing a better protective effect. In addition, the Gd-rich clusters are randomly distributed after SFT processing, which decreases the tendency of galvanic corrosion on the UFG surface.

237. Effect of Ti particles on the LPSO phase and mechanical properties of TiP/VW94 composites

Abstract

For magnesium matrix composites (MMCs), it is crucial to enhance their strength while maintaining plasticity. In this work, Ti particle (TiP) reinforced VW94 composites (TiP/VW94 composites) with varying amounts of Ti particles were prepared using a semi-solid stirring-assisted ultrasonic vibration method followed by homogenizing treatment. Microstructural analysis revealed that the addition of Ti particles resulted in grain refinement and facilitated the formation of lamellar long period stacking ordered structure (LPSO) during homogenizing treatment due to the increasing dislocation density. In addition, the jagged interfacial product of MnTi phase was generated at the interface between Ti particles and Mg matrix, and a strong interfacial bonding was formed at the Mg/Ti interface. The tensile test results show that the strength and elongation of TiP/VW94 composites all improved than VW94 matrix alloy and the 5%TiP/VW94 composite presents the best tensile properties with yield strength (YS), ultimate tensile strength (UTS), and elongation of 173 MPa, 256 MPa and 5.9%, respectively. The improved tensile properties of TiP/VW94 composites can be attributed to grain refinement, load transfer, dispersion strengthening, dislocation strengthening, and an increase in lamellar LPSO.

238. An ultrahigh strain-independent damping capacity in Mg–1Mn alloy by cold rolling process

Abstract

An ultrahigh strain-independent damping in Mg–1Mn alloy was prepared by cold rolling process. Combined with microstructure characterization, the mechanical properties and damping capacities of Mg–1Mn alloy with different reduction were systematically investigated. By the appropriate cold rolling process, numerous parallel dislocations, stacking faults (SFs) and a few non-basal dislocations are introduced into Mg matrix. Due to the non-basal dislocations and stacking faults coexists with basal dislocations, their reaction with each other leads to the activation of more non-basal slips and increase of strain hardening rate, which simultaneously improves the strength and plasticity of Mg–1Mn alloy. On the other hand, the increase of number of moveable dislocations and SFs, acting as dissipated source, effectively improves the damping capacity. Especially, the Mg–1Mn alloy shows an ultrahigh strain-independent damping capacity, which outperforms the high-damping Mg-0.6Zr alloy. When the reduction is 20%, the alloys show a good comprehensive mechanical properties: the ultimate tensile strength (UTS), the yield strength (YS) and plasticity is 206 MPa, 156 MPa and 49.8%. This work provides a new strategy for preparing high-strength, high-plasticity and high-damping magnesium alloy.
