Mediante análisis de correlación se valora la influencia que los tipos de fibras I, IIA y IIX pueden tener sobre el color y el porcentaje de grasa intramuscular en el músculo longísimo lumbar del cerdo “Chato Murciano”. Los resultados demuestran que las fibras tipo IIX influyen sobre el color de la carne y que no existen correlaciones entre el porcentaje de grasa intramuscular y ninguno de los tipos de fibras analizados.

Mediante análisis de correlación se valora la influencia que los tipos de fibras I, IIA y IIX tienen sobre el pH y la capacidad de retención de agua en el músculo longísimo lumbar del cerdo “Chato Murciano”. Los resultados demuestran que los tipos de fibras no influyen sobre el pH a los 45’, pero sí durante la caída del mismo a las 24 h del sacrificio. Por otra parte, nuestros resultados indican que la capacidad de retención de agua está relacionada negativamente con el tamaño de las fibras tipo IIA.

Mediante técnicas histoquímicas y de análisis de imagen se estudian las características de los distintos tipos de fibras que integran el músculo longísimo lumbar del cerdo “Chato Murciano” criado mediante sistema intensivo. Asimismo, se estima y valora la presencia de fibras anómalas. Los resultados obtenidos demuestran la presencia de al menos tres tipos principales de fibras, catalogadas como tipos I, IIA y IIX. Los datos morfométricos revelan la existencia de alto porcentaje (79%) y gran tamaño de las fibras IIX (glucolíticas). Introducción. El panorama actual del nivel de Educación Superior muestra la necesidad de mejorar los procesos de enseñanza y de aprendizaje que se producen en el mismo. El auge de la sociedad de la información está transformando los modos de organizar el aprendizaje y de trasmitir el conocimiento. Por ello, es necesaria la mejora de los procesos de enseñanzaaprendizaje, la evaluación del papel de docentes y alumnado, y la experimentación de nuevas metodologías y TICs. El modelo DIDEPRO® ha aportado elementos metolodógicos y tecnológicos relevantes para este fin. Método. Un total de 728 alumnos y alumnas, y sus profesores, de las Universidades de Almería, Granada (España) y UWIC, Cardiff (UK) participaron en la experiencia educativa. El diseño utilizado fue de tipo cuasiexperimental, con grupo de control no equivalente. Para la evaluación se utilizaron el Cuestionario ETLQ (Housell, Entwistle y et al, 2001) y las Escalas EIPEA (De la Fuente y Martínez, 2004). Para la intervención se utilizaron conjuntamente las utilidades-web DIMEPEA® (De la Fuente y Trujillo, 2005) y PLEYADE® (De la Fuente y Martínez, 2004), surgidas de la metodología del Modelo DIDEPRO®. Resultados. Los análisis multivariados efectuados han mostrado, en ambos cuestionarios un efecto de interacción significativo del Grupo x Momento, tanto respecto a la regulación de la enseñanza como a la autorregulación del aprendizaje. Discusión. Se comenta la utilidad de la metodología y de las herramientas web, surgidas del modelo DIDEPRO, así como sus posibilidades de generalización.

Antecedentes: Numerosos factores han sido implicados en el proceso de implantación, entre ellos se destaca la presencia de glicoproteínas de superficie. Se ha demostrado en ratones, entre otros, que los tipos y cantidades de azúcares de superficie varían según el período del ciclo reproductivo en el que se encuentran, lo que podría sugerir un importante papel de estas variaciones en la mayor receptividad del útero al blastocisto. Objetivos: Describimos los carbohidratos de superficie del aparato reproductor de la coneja, correlacionándolos con los cambios en sus genitales externos, y con los distintos períodos de su ciclo reproductivo. Métodos: Se usaron 15 conejas, ovuladoras coitales, en las que se identifica el período del ciclo según cambios en sus genitales externos; 5 tenían vulva blanca (poca receptividad al macho y bajo índice de embarazos), 5 tenían vulva rosa, y 5 roja (máxima receptividad al macho y alto índice de embarazos). Se estudiaron variaciones en los azúcares de superficie en el oviducto, útero distal, útero medio y cuello uterino, representados por el grado de tinción de 5 lectinas: eritrina cristagalli (ECL), dolichos biforus agglutinin (DBA), ulex europaeus aglutinin-1(UEA-1), pisum sativum agglutinin (PSA) y artocarpus integrifolia (Jacalin). Resultados: Hubo predominio del disacárido N-acetilgalactosamina α 1-3N-acetilgalac-tosamina (DBA) en todos los períodos y lugares del aparato reproductor, exceptuando el período de vulva roja en útero medio, donde prevalece la beta galactosa (Jacalina). Los residuos de manosa/α glucosa (PSA), presentan alta reacción en los períodos de vulva rosa y roja en el oviducto y útero distal. La galactosa β1-4 N-acetil glucosamina (ECL) y la L-fucosa (UEA-1) tienen bajo nivel de expresión en todos los sitios y períodos. Conclusión: La ausencia del disacárido N-acetilgalactosamina α 1-3N-acetilgalac-tosamina en el período de vulva roja y en el útero medio y la prevalencia de la beta galactosa en el mismo período y lugar es consistente con los datos encontrados por otros autores, lo cual ayuda a confirmar la importancia de estos residuos para regular el proceso de implantación Background: Several factors have been implied in the process of implantation, among them the presence of glicoproteins of the surface is the most outstanding. It has been showed in mice; among others; that the kind and quantity of sugars of surface varies according to the cycling reproductive period in which they are found, which it may suggest an important role of these variations in a major receptivity of the uterus to the blastocyst. Objectives: It describes the surface carbohydrates of the female rabbit reproductive system making an analogy with the changes in the outer genitals, and with the different cycles of the reproductive period. Method: In this study 15 the female rabbits were used which ovulated during coitus, and in which it could identify the cycling period found according the changes of the outer genitals, five had white vulva (low male receptivity and low index of pregnancy), five had them pink, and the other five had them red (high male receptivity and high index of pregnancy), it was studied variations of surface sugars in the oviduct, distal uterus, middle uterus and cervix of the rabbits represented by the degree of tinción of 5 different lectinas: eritrina cristagalli (ECL), dolichos biforus agglutinin (DBA), ulex europaeus agglutinin (UEA-1), pisum statibum agglutinin (PSA), and artocarpus intergifolia (Jacalin). Results: It was found superiority of disaccharide N-acetylgalactosamine α 1-3 N- acetylgalactosamine (DBA) in all periods and places of the reproductive system with the exception of the red vulva period in the middle uterus, where the β-galactose prevails (Jacalin). The residues of manose/α glucose (PSA), present in high reaction in the pink and red vulva periods the oviduct and distal uterus. The galactose (β1-4 N-acetyl glucosamine (ECL) and the L-Fucose (UEA-1) have a low level of expression in all places and periods. Conclusion: The absence of disaccharide N-acetylgalactosamine α 1-3 N-acetylgalactosamine in the red vulva and the middle uterus period and the prevailing of the β-galactose in the same period and place it is consistent with the information found by other authors, this may help to confirm the importance of these residues to regulate the process of implantation

Using the Fischer-Tropsch technology high molecular hydrocarbons are synthesized from CO/H2 mixtures through a surface-catalyzed polymerization reaction using Co-based catalysts. This process enables the transformation of natural gas into clean synthetic fuels. The work discribed in this thesis is the investigation of the pyhsicochemical and catalytic properties of TiO2-supported Co Fischer-Tropsch catalysts and the role played by MnO as a promoter. A detailed characterization of Co/Mn/TiO2 catalysts using a combination of spectroscopy and microscopy have provided new insights into the active site composition and its relationships with the catalytic performances.

Background: Stunting is common among pediatric patients on peritoneal dialysis. Aim: To stablish the best profile for urea kinetic variables associated to growth in children on chronic peritoneal dialysis (PD). Patients and Methods: Twenty patients, aged 1 month to 14 years, 13 males, were followed for 6-12 months, with monthly measurements of weight/age and height/age Z score; plasma creatinine, BUN, protein and albumin and urine and dialysate urea nitrogen, creatinine, protein and albumin. Minimum total Kt/V was 2.1. Dialysis dose (Kt/V), Protein Equivalent of Urea Nitrogen Appearence (PNA), Protein Catabolic Rate (PCR) and Nitrogen Balance (NB) were calculated. To identify the variable(s) associated to growth, the Tree Classification Model (CART) Enterprise Miner 8.1 was applied. Results: Mean total/residual Kt/V: 3.4±1.3/1.69±1.27; Daily Protein Intake (DPI) was 3.25±1.27 g/kg/day. nPNA, PCR and NB were 1.37±0.44, 0.84±0.33 and 1.86±1.25 g/kg/day, respectively. Mean heigth/age Z score was -2.3±1.19. Eleven patients showed a positive height/age delta Z (mean 0.55±0.38) and nine showed a negative growth (mean -0.50±0.42). Assessment of forest defoliation is severely hampered by the limited information on tree death on short temporal and broad spatial scales. In order to evaluate forest decline rates in cork oak of Southern Spain, an analysis was made of statistical correlation between the 4 IKONOS sensor original bands acquired in 2000, the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (ndvi) and Infrared/Red Index (ir/r) and defoliation information obtained from the ground study. IKONOS near infrared band was negative correlated with defoliation (Pearson Correlation –0.762). The correlation between defoliation and ir/r ratio (Pearson Correlation –0.506) and ndvi (Pearson Correlation –0.449) was also significantly correlated. The dispersion of data presents in each category of defoliation justifies the use of the median value as the representative variable value for each intervals of defoliation. The Statistical Index of Defoliation (SID), generated from a lineal combination of IKONOS sensor bands, shows a correlation rate of 0.85 with the deforestation ground estimate which allows to estimate defoliation by using the equation: Y% defo calcu = –0.0016 * SID + 1.2162. This study shows that high-spatial-resolution satellite data can now be used to measure forest decline processes, suggesting many new alternatives to evaluate the impact of forest decline in Mediterranean forests., Los sensores remotos de alta resolución espacial ofrecen nuevas posibilidades para estudios de ecosistemas forestales, en particular al estudio de procesos de decaimiento en masas de Quercus. En este trabajo se han estudiado los procesos de defoliación en un monte alcornocal (San Roque-Cádiz), a partir de una imagen pancromática y otra imagen multiespectral del sensor IKONOS GEO. La información obtenida a partir de las bandas espectrales del sensor (banda 4, e infrarrojo cercano), así como los índices de vegetación normalizado y la relación infrarrojo/rojo (ir/r y ndvi) han mostrado una buena correlación con la defoliación, con valores superiores a –0,8 para la banda 4 (banda del infrarrojo cercano) y los índices ir/r y ndvi. Se propone mejorar estos resultados mediante la definición de un índice de estimación de la defoliación (IED) generado a partir de la combinación lineal de las bandas originales del sensor IKONOS. El coeficiente de correlación que presenta el IED propuesto con la defoliación ha sido de 0,8552, permitiendo calcular la defoliación en pies de alcornoque a través de la recta: Y% defo calcu = –0,0016 * IED + 1,2162. Este IED permite una descripción más acertada del síntoma de defoliación estudiado, que los tradicionales índices de vegetación NDVI e IR/R ampliamente utilizados en la caracterización del estado fitosanitario de las masas forestales.

[EN] The ¿p ¿ ¿+¿¿p reaction, in combination with data from the ¿N ¿ ¿¿N reaction has been recently analyzed and allows one to obtain the s- and d-wave amplitudes for the decay into ¿¿ with absolute sign with respect to the helicity amplitudes. In addition one obtains the novel information on the momentum dependence of the amplitudes. In the present paper we show how this new information poses new constraints to quark models of hadron structure. In particular we show that the signs and the momentum dependence of these amplitudes coincide with those given by non relativistic constituent quark models. In this talk we cover several issues concerning pion production. The first one is the p p ----> p p pi^0 reaction where an alternative explanation based on the off shell extrapolation of the pi N amplitude is offered. A recent model for the gamma N ----> pi pi N reaction is presented and a new kind of exchange current is constructed from it which allows one to address problems like double Delta photoproduction from the deuteron. Finally the (gamma, pi pi) reaction in nuclei is studied and shown to be highly sensitive to the renormalization of the pions in nuclei., 12 pages (10 figures), TeX, Version 3.141 [PD VMS 3.4/CERN 1.0] (fbssuppl.sty and psfig.sty are used)

The gamma p ---> pi+ pi- p reaction, in combination with data from the pi N ---> pi pi N reaction, allows one to obtain the s- and d-wave amplitudes for the N*(1520) decay into Delta pi with absolute sign with respect to the N*(1520) ---> N gamma helicity amplitudes. In addition one obtains the novel information on the q dependence of the amplitudes. This dependence fits exactly with the predictions of the non-relativistic constituent quark models. To examine the factors that may influence the outcome of infections by Shigella spp. and Campylobacter jejuni we followed for 24 consecutive months 321 rural Guatemala children 0 to 35 months old. Home visits were made to determine child morbidity patterns with emphasis on diarrhea and dysentery. Fecal samples for microbiologic studies were obtained from the participants when they were ill and during healthy periods. Shigella spp. were isolated from 9.8 and 4.0% of ill and healthy children, respectively; the figures for C. jejuni were 12.1% and 8.1%. Shigella flexneri 1, 2 and 6 and Shigella sonnei accounted for 70% of all Shigella isolates. Twenty-four percent of Shigella spp. and 7% of C. jejuni infections resulted in dysentery. Shigella dysenteriae and Shigella flexneri were more likely to induce dysentery than the other species. The incidence of dysentery was 0.84 of 100 child weeks. Age, gender, nutritional status and feeding habits of the children did not affect the outcome of Shigella infection. Fat consumption favored the development of dysentery caused by C. jejuni. The development of dysentery seems to be associated with microbial factors and not with host variables, although specific Shigella serotype protection against symptomatic infection may be functional for prolonged periods after natural exposure.
