- Abstract
Vast changes have taken place in Internet resources and features. To update teachers, administrators, and students on the changing cyberspace landscape, the Educational Research Service has developed a guidebook for using the Internet both in and out of the classroom. It contains detailed information about the World Wide Web, tools for searching and organizing information, and acceptable use policies. Section 1 describes ways in which educators and students are using the Internet and provides examples of instructional benefits and innovative applications. Section 2 lists education-related sites, newsgroups, and mailing lists of interest to teachers and administrators. The third section offers examples of Internet-based educational projects and sites that post current projects. Information about connecting to the Internet is provided in the fourth section. Section 5 describes how to use tools, such as e-mail, newsgroups, the World Wide Web, and File Transfer Protocol (FTP), providing instructions for both those with graphical access and those with text-based access. Advanced procedures for Internet users and copyright issues are discussed in the sixth section. Section 7 explains how to use the Internet safely, including the restriction of access to objectionable online material and acceptable use policies. A glossary is included. (LMI)
