This paper investigates the extent to which access to credit, public financial incentives and tax financial incentives affect export performance using the EU‐EFIGE/Bruegel‐Unicredit data set, covering firms within Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Hungary and the UK during the 2008 global financial crisis. The results show that firms receiving credit or benefiting from public financial incentives display higher export intensity and export a greater number of product lines compared to those that did not, especially in countries with better access to credit and/or financial incentives during the crisis. Further, firms benefiting from tax financial incentives show a better export performance compared to those that did not, regardless of the degree of access to credit and/or financial incentives in the country in which they operate. In addition, the effect of access to credit and public finance incentives on export performance is found to be size‐dependent, while the effect of tax financial incentives is not. We suggest that governments should promote publicly funded financial incentives along with conventional schemes, such as R&D subsidies, to promote exports, particularly during a period of financial crisis. This paper studies the effect of globalization on small and medium enterprises (SMEs) performance in Nigeria. The study adopts an ex post-facto type of descriptive research design. In carrying out this study, the secondary statistics data was used. Data was extracted from CBN bulletin on relevant information which depicts globalization and its effect on SMEs performance in Nigeria.A co-integration model was used to investigate the effect of globalization on SMEs performance in Nigeria. To capture the activities of globalization, three proxies were used to capture the activities of globalization; they include interest rate, bank credit and trade openness while on the other hand, output of SMEs to GDP was used to capture SMEs performance covering the period of 1992 to 2014. It was observed that interest rate, bank credit and trade openness do not improve the performance of SMEs output. The overall effect as shown by the F-statistics reveals that the variables considered in this study are not significant in explaining the level of improvement in SMEs output and performance in Nigeria.

Taking 141 listed renewable energy enterprises in China as a sample, the Richardson model is adopted to measure their investment efficiency in this paper. On this basis, an intermediary effect model of panel data is constructed to empirically analyze the intermediary effect of green financial development on renewable energy investment efficiency through bank loans, short-term loans, and long-term loans. We find that China's green financial development has a negative impact on bank loan issuance in general, and inhibits the improvement of renewable energy investment efficiency to a certain extent, with an effect degree of 0.0017. Besides, the short-term loan has few intermediate effect on investment efficiency, while there is no intermediary effect of long-term loans. Moreover, as for the over-investment renewable energy enterprises, intermediary effect of bank loans exists. Green financial development can inhibit over-investment in renewable energy by reducing bank credit issuance; for renewable energy companies of under-investment, on the contrary, it aggravates the under-investment to a certain extent. This paper suggests that the government should both construct and consummate the green financial system through policies and regulation. Financial institutions should actively produce innovative green financial products and support the development of renewable energy enterprises and the renewable energy enterprises should strengthen their internal management and develop financing channels. • This paper measures the green financial development index from 2011 to 2016. • A Richardson model is adopted to measure renewable energy investment efficiency. • Green financial development can inhibit over-investment in renewable energy by reducing bank credit issuance. • For renewable energy enterprises that are underinvesting, green financial development cannot alleviate under-investment. In contrast to the widespread view which posits that large current account deficits and net international debt were at the epicenter of the crisis in the Euro Zone, with diverging competitiveness playing a central role, this article points to the huge volume of bank credit that banks refinanced in international markets. With a focus on the Spanish economy, we ground our view in an analysis linking gross—not net—capital flows, bank credit, and gross external debt, which provides more adequate information about a country's international financing patterns and its external exposure. The main conclusion of this article is that the principle driver of gross external debt in Spain was bank credit, with accumulated current account deficits accounting for less than 50 percent of gross external debt. Other consequences in keeping with this view are: the measures of economic policy required to sort out current account imbalances—particularly wage devaluation to improve competitiveness—may do more harm than good and they do not prevent the problem of too much bank credit from occurring again, and the residence of debt holders in the Euro Zone crisis is relevant for the understanding of the crisis as the result of a power imbalance [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The incentives banks face, such as the Basel Capital Accords, motivate them to favor lending with collateralized assets, rather than lending to Small-Medium Enterprises (SMEs), with associated profound economic consequences for society. Since the 1970s there has not been any direct oversight of whether or not credit contributes to GDP. We need a macroeconomic policy tool that can discriminate among different categories of credit extended to curb speculation in existing assets (non-GDP) and promote new business investment (GDP). Government money creation and private credit growth are often presumed the only two ways to enhance nominal demand, yet the Swiss Economic Circle (Wirtschaftsring-Genossenschaft or WIR) is a Swiss Bank whose creation of purchasing power for SMEs has counter-cyclically stabilized the Swiss economy for over 80 years. The Financial Stability Board (FSB) should create localized credit-creation architectures utilizing a Swiss-WIR type currency to funnel credit that reflects systemic and macroeconomic risks that individually will never be rational for banks left to themselves. Trade credit and bank credit constitute two of the most important external sources of finance for small firms. The purpose of this paper, first and foremost, is to explore the complementary or substitutive relationship between trade credit and bank credit by considering the joint determination of both resources on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and second, it analyses how the country institutional factors affect these two resources. Specifically, we introduce the efficiency of the legal system and the development of the financial sector. For the empirical analysis, we use a simultaneous equations model across a sample of 60,377 SMEs operating in 12 European Union countries over the period 2008–2014. The results suggest that two resources, trade credit and short-term bank credit, are simultaneously determined and negatively related in SMEs. In recent years, as China has grappled with rising debt and broad economic restructure, the prevalence of zombie firms has become a critical problem. This paper provides a theoretical framework illustrating the rationale behind the occurrence of zombie firms from the perspective of banks. We develop differential equations to model a bank's expectation and the ex ante estimate that underlies its decision to refinance an insolvent borrower. An optimistic expectation is essential in zombie lending and is intrinsic to the countercyclical pattern of zombie firms. Our model also predicts that debt can build up to an unsustainable level if recovery of profitability is sluggish or the initial debt burden is too high. Examining the Chinese experience of zombie firms over 2007–2017, this paper highlights two findings. First, the share of zombie firms among Shanghai and Shenzhen A‐share listed companies demonstrates a countercyclical pattern. Second, the positive correlation between zombie share and debt accumulation across manufacturing sectors sheds light on the link between zombie firms and the rising corporate debt in China. To deal with the "zombie" problem, the government should carefully weigh its policies to avoid further distortions because the occurrence of zombie firms may be inevitable and impossible to eliminate. We investigate if financial development (FD) can reduce the export concentration in regional context, corroborating the role of the World Trade Organization (WTO) membership, sanctions and investment potential. Given the considerable heterogeneity in data across regions and over time, we apply the Method of Moments Quantile Regression (MMQR) to analyze panel time-series data from 2009 to 2019. Our finding shows that bank credit disbursement as a proxy of FD drives export diversification in all quantiles (q10-q90), where the role of FD is pronounced at middle to higher quantiles. Besides, the impact of financial development on trade diversification is profound in the regions with higher business potential compared to the lower business potential. We affirm that the adaption of WTO membership elevates trade diversification through promoting competitiveness and providing nascent exporting sectors opportunities to grow. Surprisingly, the economic sanctions imposed in 2014 promoted Russian regional trade diversification. This study focuses on the development value of sales, labor on ict companies in Bandung, the output value of industry sector and subsector telecommunications equipment industry, exports of communications including communications telecommunications equipment industry, as well as economic development, employment and bank lending in the form of small and medium-sized micro-credit for the years 2000 - 2008 to kabupatenkota in West Java province. Results obtained bank loan facilities for the industrial sector and the inflation rate together to have a significant impact on employment in West Java, on changes in bank lending as a whole no significant influence on the change of value of output and employment in the industry as a whole and telecommunications equipment industry, exports of communications and telecommunications equipment communications in western Java, while the UMKM loans to agriculture, mining, processing industry, trade, hotels and restaurants, transport and communication co, construction, service businesses, community social services, and other sectors together have a significant effect on employment in western Java. So that banking institutions should give greater credit to sectors of the productive economy, and have a wider effect multipier between sectors, so the increase in credit for UMKM will positively impact employment in west Java, so does the local government to provide certainty law for licensing services, transparency, and lower cost, especially for UMKM to various economic sectors in western Java.

This study attempts to investigate the link between bank credit and private sector investment in Nigeria from 1980 to 2014 using Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression procedure. The study also employs other preliminary investigations which include, unit root, cointegration and Granger causality test procedures. The OLS result indicates that the coefficients of the variables which include, banks credit to the private sector (CRPRIVAT), trade openness (OPEN), exchange rate (EXCHR) and total bank saving (BSAVING) exhibit positive signs to the dependent variable, private investment (INVEST) during the period under review, while the coefficients of two other variables, capital expenditure (CAP) and interest rate (INTR) indicate negative signs to the dependent variable. The stationarity test result shows that all the variables under consideration are stationary and integrated of order one at 5% significance level. Also, the cointegration test result indicates at most five cointegrating equations at 5% level of significance. The Granger causality test result shows that a bi-directional causality exists between banks credit and private investment and also between private investment and capital expenditure, while a uni-directional causality exists from exchange rate to private investment.Statistically, the descriptive statistics result indicates that all the variables have a positive mean values which ranges from 18.05390 to 2427052 with 34 observations.The correlation test result obtained shows that four variables, CRPRIVAT, OPEN, EXCHR and BSAVING have positive relationships with the dependent variable INVEST. The t-statistic result shows that five of the variables which includes, CRPRIVAT, OPEN, CAP, INTR and EXCHR are statistically significant at 5% significance level. The study recommends that there is a need for increased Federal government support to banks in terms of policies that would encourage lending to the private sector in Nigeria.

The purpose of this paper is to identify two inconsistencies that are found in the third chapter of Marx's Das Kapital, dedicated to the study of credit. In the first one Marx states that the distinction between commercial and bank credit is only nominal, but he resorts to it in order to provide an explanation for the nineteenth century crisis in England, thus implying that the distinction was not only nominal, but real. The second inconsistency is noticed between Marx’s statement that real and money capital move in opposite directions during the trade cycle (with-out an explanation of how it is possible), and the second book of The Capital where Marx states that capital in the form of money and real capital must move in the same directions during the business cycle
