Abstract

RESUMO Introdução: As Ligas Acadêmicas de Cirurgia Plástica (LCP) são organizações estudantis que objetivam complementar a formação acadêmica em cirurgia plástica. Atuam por meio dos pilares de ensino, pesquisa e extensão que promovem o contato dos estudantes com a realidade social em que estão inseridos, permitindo-os entender as verdadeiras necessidades da população e atuar como agentes de transformação social. No entanto, a abordagem do tema na literatura ainda é incipiente. O presente trabalho objetiva descrever a atuação das LCP vinculadas à Associação Brasileira das Ligas de Cirurgia Plástica (ABLCP). Métodos: Tratou-se de um estudo transversal, descritivo, multicêntrico de abordagem qualiquantitativa, mediante a aplicação de um questionário de 19 perguntas construídas de modo a evitar os vieses demonstrados no Catálogo de Vieses em Questionários. Resultados: Foi observado que existem 78 LCPs e 1873 ligantes, presentes em 58 cidades ao longo de 20 estados, sendo a Região Sudeste com o maior número de ligas e ligantes, já a Região Norte apresenta a menor quantidade de ligas e alunos. Além do mais, foi visto que 78,2% das ligas são vinculadas à ABLCP e apresentam atividades nos três eixos (educação, pesquisa e extensão). Em geral, as ligas têm menos participação em pesquisa. Conclusão: A ABLCP objetiva melhorar a performance das ligas, inspecionar e estimular suas atividades, uma vez que as ligas possuem um papel importante na educação médica. ABSTRACT Introduction: The Academic Leagues are non-profit autonomous civil and scientific student entities, of indefinite duration, which brings together medical students and professors. The Brazilian Association of Plastic Surgery Leagues (ABLCP) is an organization linked to the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBCP), considered its academic segment, thus establishing the proximity between Academic Leagues of Plastic Surgery (PSL) and SBCP. The present study aims to describe the profile of the associated leagues. Methods: This was a cross-sectional, descriptive, multicenter study with qualitative and quantitative approach through application of an online questionnaire with 19 questions. Duplicated or unfinished records were excluded. Results: It was observed that there are 78 PSLs and 1873 binders, present in 58 cities arranged in 20 federative units, being the Southeast region with the largest number of alloys and binders and the one with the smallest number was the North region. In addition, it was observed that 78.2% of the PSLs linked to the ABLCP presented activities in the three axes (Education, Research and Extension/Assistance) simultaneously. In general, the Leagues obtained less participation in research. Conclusions: ABLCPs performance in relation to LCPs has the objective of seeking alignment, inspection and stimulus for their activities, since alloys have an important role in medical education.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate diagnostic techniques for trypanosomiasis, caused by Trypanosoma vivax, in naturally infected cattle in Minas Gerais, Zona da Mata. The deaths of six lactating cows with similar clinical conditions—characterized by hyporexia, hypogalactia, and recumbency—had been reported from one property. Initially, two animals were examined and diagnosed with trypanosomiasis through identification of the protozoan in a blood smear. After the initial diagnosis, all lactating cows (n=37) on the property were examined, and blood samples were collected for tests including whole blood smear, buffy coat smear, Woo's technique, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Woo's test, buffy coat smears, and whole blood smears indicated that 4/37 (10.81%) animals were positive for trypanosomiasis, whereas ELISA and PCR indicated that 33/37 (89.19%) and 27/37 (72.97%) animals, respectively, were positive. The agreement obtained between parasitological techniques was classified as high, while between ELISA and PCR, no agreement. In conclusion, parasitological techniques have a low capacity to identify infected animals in the chronic stage of T. vivax infection. Therefore, techniques such as PCR and/or ELISA should be used to minimize the occurrence of false negatives. Resumo Este estudo objetiva avaliar as técnicas de diagnóstico da tripanossomíase, causada pelo Trypanosoma vivax, em bovinos naturalmente infectados, em Minas Gerais, Zona da Mata. A morte de seis vacas em lactação com condições clínicas semelhantes - caracterizadas por hiporexia, hipogalaxia e decúbito - foi relatada em uma propriedade. Inicialmente, dois animais foram examinados e diagnosticados com tripanossomíase através da identificação do protozoário em esfregaço sanguíneo. Após o diagnóstico inicial, todas as vacas em lactação (n = 37) na propriedade foram examinadas, e amostras de sangue foram coletadas para testes, incluindo esfregaço de sangue total, esfregaço de capa leucocitária, técnica de Woo, ensaio imunoenzimático (ELISA) e reação em cadeia da polimerase (PCR). O teste de Woo, os esfregaços de capa leucocitária e de sangue total indicaram que 4/37 (10,81%) animais foram positivos para tripanossomíase, enquanto ELISA e PCR indicaram que 33/37 (89,19%) e 27/37 (72,97%) animais, respectivamente, foram positivos. A concordância entre técnicas parasitológicas foi classificada como alta, enquanto entre ELISA e PCR, sem concordância. As técnicas parasitológicas apresentam baixa capacidade para identificar animais infectados na fase crônica da infecção por T. vivax. Dessa forma, técnicas como PCR e/ou ELISA devem ser utilizadas para minimizar a ocorrência de falsos negativos.

Abstract

Objective: This retrospective study aimed to analyse the anatomical dimensions of the pterygomaxillary region, installation angulations of pterygoid implants and bone density in the pterygoid pillar region by cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) examinations used in planning dental rehabilitation with implant‐supported prostheses in patients with atrophic jaws. Materials and Methods: We analysed 360 CBCTs of patients with atrophic jaws using Xoran® software v.3.1.62 (Xoran Technologies). In addition, the angulation of virtual implants installed in the pterygomaxillary region was analysed in relation to the Frankfurt plan, as well as the length required for the installation of implants in this region. Results: The implant length installed in the pterygoid pillar varied between 13 and 20 mm, with an average of 16.17 mm (SD 2.16 mm). The pterygoid implant angulation on the latero‐lateral axis (frontal view) averaged 78.71° (SD. 3.58°) and 73.50° (SD 3.49°) in the anteroposterior direction (sagittal view). Bone density was found to be significantly higher in the pterygoid pillar region compared the maxillary tuberosity region (p < 0.05); the region of the tuberosity and pterygoid pillar had an average density value of 132.9 (SD 230.24) and 513.91 (SD 291.63) respectively. Conclusion: According to the results of this study, a pterygoid implant with a minimum length of 13 mm should be used in the pterygomaxillary region to reach the pterygoid bone pillar. 218. Entre la revolución, la inestabilidad política y la ruptura democrática: una evaluación de la historia del tiempo presente boliviano entre 2006 y 2019

Abstract

November 10th, 2019, there was another coup d’ etat in Bolivia. Evo Morales was forced to step down his presidential term after losing the “battle of the streets” due to to country's political oppositions. The fateful outcome came after the suggestion of abdication made by the commander of the Armed Forces, General Williams Kaliman. Political instability after the presidential election on October 20th decisively contributed to this event. These events promoted several debates trough universities circles and journalistic analyzes. At the same time, examinations on the subject were carried out by researchers dedicated to latin american history. We aim to contribute to debates in this article. Will we reflect on Bolivian history between 2006 and 2019. Will we evaluate Evo Morales' nearly 14 years of office and the motivations for the coup that ended with the Bolivian democratic and cultural revolution. El 10 de noviembre de 2019 hubo más uno golpe de Estado en Bolivia. Evo Morales renunció a su mandato presidencial después de la derrota en la “batalla de las calles” ante los grupos de la oposición del país. El fatídico desenlace se produjo tras la sugerencia de abdicación del comandante de las Fuerzas Armadas, el general Williams Kaliman. La inestabilidad política después de las elecciones presidenciales del 20 de octubre contribuyó de manera decisiva a este evento. El tema desató debates en los medios universitarios y análisis periodísticas. En paralelo, se realizaron exámenes sobre el tema por parte de investigadores dedicados a la historia latinoamericana. Nuestro objetivo es contribuir a tales debates en este artículo. Reflexionaremos sobre la historia boliviana entre 2006 y 2019. Evaluaremos los casi 14 años de mandato de Evo Morales y las motivaciones del golpe que terminó con la revolución democrática y cultural boliviana. Em 10 de novembro de 2019, ocorreu mais um golpe de Estado na Bolívia. Evo Morales renunciouao seu mandato presidencial após perder a “batalha das ruas” para as oposições políticas do país. O fatídico desfecho ocorreu após a sugestão de abdicação feita pelo comandante das Forças Armadas, general Williams Kaliman. A instabilidade política após a eleição presidencial em 20 de outubro contribuiu decisivamente para esse acontecimento. O tema despertou debates nos meios universitário e diversas análises jornalísticas. Paralelamente, exames sobre o assunto foram feitos por pesquisadores dedicados à história latino-americana. Almejamos contribuir com tais debates neste artigo. Refletiremos sobre a história boliviana entre 2006e 2019. Avaliaremos os quase 14 anos de gestão de Evo Morales e as motivações para o golpe de Estado que finalizou com a revolução democrática e cultural boliviana.

219. Evaluation of the ornamental fish market segment in the municipality of Goiânia and metropolitan area

Abstract

Objetivou-se estudar a cadeia produtiva de peixes ornamentais, abordando o comércio varejista e o consumidor em Goiânia e região metropolitana. De forma geral, foram analisadas as variáveis que caracterizam a produção, comércio, cadeia de comercialização e a criação de peixes ornamentais. Foram utilizados questionários aplicados via on-line para os praticantes de aquarismo ou aquariofilista, lojistas e produtores, tendo sido obtidas respostas de 82 indivíduos que se enquadram na categoria de praticantes do aquarismo, 25 lojistas e 32 produtores. As relações entre as variáveis foram analisadas pelo teste qui-quadrado, considerando 0,05 de significância. Os resultados foram comparados e avaliados por meio do intervalo de confiança e destacado aqueles que tiveram interesse dentro do mercado de peixes ornamentais. Aqueles indivíduos que responderam como produtores, demonstraram que começaram a produzir apenas por hobbie (51,4%) e, com a demanda crescendo, aumentaram a sua produção. Os lojistas, em sua maioria representando pet shops, lojas agropecuárias e lojas de aquarismo possuem pouco controle da qualidade da água (62,5% das lojas), assim como os praticantes de aquarismo que, embora tenham conhecimento sobre a qualidade da água (62,3% dos indivíduos), são poucos os que fazem esse tipo de avaliação (41,9%). Desta forma, constatou-se que, em sua maioria, o mercado de peixes ornamentais de Goiânia e região metropolitana não realizam de fato a verificação e o controle da qualidade de água em seus locais de criação ou venda, seja por falta de conhecimento ou incentivo. The objective was to study the production chain of ornamental fish, addressing the retail and consumer trade in Goiânia and the metropolitan area. In general, the variables that characterize the production, trade, marketing chain and the rearing of ornamental fish were analyzed. Questionnaires applied online were used for aquarist practitioners, shopkeepers and producers, and responses were obtained from 82 individuals who fall into the category of aquarism practitioners, 25 shopkeepers and 32 producers. The relationships between the variables were analyzed by the chi-square test, considering 0.05 of significance. The results were compared and evaluated through the confidence interval and highlighted those who had interest within the ornamental fish market. Those individuals who responded as producers demonstrated that they started producing only by hobbie (51.4%) and, with demand growing, their production increased. Shopkeepers, mostly representing pet shops, agricultural shops and water shops have little control of water quality (62.5% of the stores), as well as the watercolor practitioners who, although they have knowledge about water quality (62.3% of the individuals), are few who make this type of evaluation (41.9%). Thus, it was found that, for the most part, the ornamental fish market of Goiânia and the metropolitan region do not actually perform the verification and control of water quality in their places of rearing or selling, either due to lack of knowledge or incentive.

Abstract

Esta dissertação representa mais um de muitos outros esforços acadêmicos no sentido de explorar as possibilidades e entendimento acerca de um tema que, como poucos outros, pode ser considerado ao mesmo tempo de relevância antiga, atual, e talvez futura, se considerado que estudiosos e especialistas do mesmo ainda estão distantes de chegar a um consenso pacificado, dentre muitos pontos de vista para o mesmo objetivo. Trata-se das alternativas existentes para solução de um dos mais robustos e complexos desafios de administração para os gestores públicos. Isso do ponto de vista fiscal e, por consequência, do estado de bem-estar: a Seguridade Social no Brasil. A dissertação aqui elaborada abordou aspectos demográficos da sociedade brasileira contemporânea, configurações mercadológicas e tendências da economia do trabalho no país; e, sob esse aspecto, contestará possibilidades já utilizadas em outros países, agora e no passado, com vistas a equacionar os problemas da seguridade social. Utilizando-se da captura de dados primários, via questionário próprio para tal fim, chegou-se à conclusão de diferentes variantes de aceitação, dentre os perfis sociodemográficos identificados na amostra de pesquisa, para dois conceitos estruturantes de um novo modelo de seguridade: (1) a gestão financeira do sistema, por entidades privadas, e (2) a substituição do regime de repartição simples, como custeio, para a capitalização.

Valencia, del 8 al 11 de septiembre de 2021. El tema principal tuvo como lema: “La huella Humana en la Naturaleza”., Las colecciones científicas son una infraestructura de investigación única e irremplazable para numerosas áreas de la ciencia. En la actualidad, se estima que en el Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales se conservan 10 millones de especímenes, lo que suponen casi la mitad de todos los conservados en España. Esta infraestructura científica o este tesoro, como puede ser llamado, se ha reunido principalmente a lo largo del último siglo, y se debe al trabajo conjunto de muchos especialistas, estudiosos e interesados en diferentes disciplinas de las ciencias naturales. En esta ponencia se quiere poner en valor la aportación de los socios de la RSEHN en el incremento y desarrollo de las colecciones científicas del MNCN. Se ha realizado un análisis preliminar de los fondos de las diferentes colecciones del MNCN y de los ingresos efectuados por los socios de RSEHN desde su fundación (1871) hasta el momento en que abandona el MNCN (1971). Se realizó en cada una de ellas una consulta de los diferentes colectores y personas que aportaron especímenes y que aparecen en las bases de datos, cruzándola con la base de datos de socios durante dicho periodo. Se ha contabilizado el número de especímenes, número de tipos y taxones correspondientes a éstos. La cifra de socios total supera el centenar. El número de ejemplares ingresados por estos socios, entre esas fechas, se estima que superan el millón y medio, lo que supone al menos un 15% del total actual estimado. Hay que tener en cuenta que las colecciones no se encuentran informatizadas al 100%.

Abstract

This paper estimates the Brazilian Amazon’s carbon-efficient forestation -- i.e. when farmers internalize the social cost of carbon. We propose a dynamic discrete choice model of land use and estimate it using a panel of land use and carbon stock of 5.7 billion pixels between 2008 and 2017. Business-as-usual implies an inefficient release of 44 gigatons of CO2 in the long run resulting from deforestation of an area twice the size of France. We find that relatively small carbon taxes can mitigate a substantial part of inefficient deforestation. We show that targeted mitigation efforts on areas with the largest potential for emission reductions can be very effective. We also find that while taxing cattle production can abate emissions, taxing crops is virtually innocuous.

Porém, ainda existem limitações com relação à aplicação clínica da FES utilizando controladores em malha fechada. Com isso, se faz necessário utilizar e aprimorar técnicas e sensores referentes a avaliação muscular durante protocolos de aplicação da FES. A mecanomiografia (MMG) é uma técnica promissora na avaliação da função muscular, possibilitando uma análise da fadiga muscular, registro de potênciais de ação da unidade motora, avaliação do comportamento muscular, entre outros. Vários estudos relacionam as propriedades contráteis dos músculos durante contrações voluntárias isométricas e dinâmicas com os sinais de MMG, bem como a utilização dos seus parâmetros para investigar a fadiga muscular. Nesse estudo, foi desenvolvido um sensor de MMG e incorporado em um sistema FES com capacidade de estimulação em malha aberta e malha fechada. Um protocolo de ensaio para membros inferiores foi proposto e testes com voluntários hígidos apontaram uma correlação linear significativa entre os valores RMS da MMG e a posição angular da articulação do joelho. Os testes realizados permitiram uma comparação entra a taxa de fadiga muscular gerada pela estimulação em malha aberta e a estimulção utilizando um controlador em malha fechada. Concluiu-se que os dados analisados demonstratram bons resultados na avaliação da fadiga muscular durante sessões de eletroestimulação, bem como uma boa perspectiva na utilização do sinal de MMG para realimentação de um sistema de controle. Functional electrical stimulation (FES) is widely used in the rehabilitation area, also applied in cases of spinal cord injury. However, there are still many limitations regarding the clinical application of closed-loop FES. Thus, it is necessary to use and improve techniques and sensors related to muscle assessment during FES application protocols. Mechanomyography (MMG) is a promising technique in the evaluation of muscle function, allowing an analysis of muscle fatigue, recording of motor action potentials, assessment of muscle behavior, among others. Several studies relate the contractile properties of muscles during voluntary isometric and dynamic contractions with the signs of MMG, as well as the use of its parameters to investigate muscle fatigue. In this study, an MMG sensor was developed and incorporated into a FES system with open-loop and closed-loop stimulation capabilities. A test protocol for lower limbs was proposed and tests with healthy volunteers showed a significant linear correlation between MMG RMS values and the angular position of the knee joint. The tests performed allowed a comparison between the rate of muscle fatigue generated by open-loop stimulation and stimulation using a closed-loop controller. It was concluded that the analyzed data demonstrate good results in the evaluation of muscle fatigue during electrostimulation sessions, as well as a good perspective on the use of the MMG signal to feedback from a control system. Abstract

The Arctic Ocean receives a large supply of dissolved organic matter (DOM) from its catchment and shelf sediments, which can be traced across much of the basin’s upper waters. This signature can potentially be used as a tracer. On the shelf, the combination of river discharge and sea-ice formation, modifies water densities and mixing considerably. These waters are a source of the halocline layer that covers much of the Arctic Ocean, but also contain elevated levels of DOM. Here we demonstrate how this can be used as a supplementary tracer and contribute to evaluating ocean circulation in the Arctic. A fraction of the organic compounds that DOM consists of fluoresce and can be measured using in-situ fluorometers. When deployed on autonomous platforms these provide high temporal and spatial resolution measurements over long periods. The results of an analysis of data derived from several Ice Tethered Profilers (ITPs) offer a unique spatial coverage of the distribution of DOM in the surface 800m below Arctic sea-ice. Water mass analysis using temperature, salinity and DOM fluorescence, can clearly distinguish between the contribution of Siberian terrestrial DOM and marine DOM from the Chukchi shelf to the waters of the halocline. The findings offer a new approach to trace the distribution of Pacific waters and its export from the Arctic Ocean. Our results indicate the potential to extend the approach to separate freshwater contributions from, sea-ice melt, riverine discharge and the Pacific Ocean. Abstract

The overall volume of freshwater entering the Arctic Ocean has been growing as glaciers melt and river runoff increases. Since 1980, a 20% increase in river runoff has been observed in the Arctic system. As the discharges of the Ob, Yenisei, and Lena rivers are an important source of freshwater in the Kara and Laptev Seas, an increase in river discharge might have a significant impact on the upper ocean circulation. The fresh river water mixes with ocean water and forms a large freshened surface layer (FSL), which carries high loads of dissolved organic matter and suspended matter into the Arctic Ocean. Optically active material (e.g., phytoplankton and detrital matter) are spread out into plumes, which are evident in satellite data. Russian river signatures in the Kara and Laptev Seas are also evident in recent SMOS Sea Surface Salinity (SSS) Arctic products. In this study, we compare the new Arctic+ SSS products, produced at the Barcelona Expert Center, with the Ocean Color absorption coefficient of colored detrital matter (CDM) in the Kara and Laptev Seas for the period 2011–2019. The SSS and CDM are found to be strongly negatively correlated in the regions of freshwater influence, with regression coefficients between −0.72 and −0.91 in the studied period. Exploiting this linear correlation, we estimate the SSS back to 1998 using two techniques: one assuming that the relationship between the CDM and SSS varies regionally in the river-influenced areas, and another assuming that it does not. We use the 22-year time-series of reconstructed SSS to estimate the interannual variability of the extension of the FSL in the Kara and Laptev Seas as well as their freshwater content. For the Kara and Laptev Seas, we use 32 and 28 psu as reference salinities, and 26 and 24 psu isohalines as FSL boundaries, respectively.
