Purpose: Small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have now become an important part of economy for not only developed nations but also for emerging economies. Irrespective of the benefits that can be derived, SMEs in emerging economies still lack the will to implement quality management (QM) practices. Using a comparative study, the purpose of this paper is to understand the status of QM practices in SMEs of emerging economies. Design/methodology/approach: A survey-based approach was adopted to understand the established QM practices in the SMEs. A survey instrument was designed by reviewing the literature on QM initiatives in SMEs. A sample of 270 SMEs across Southern India and 189 SMEs in Namibia was selected through stratified random sampling technique. Findings: The overall response rate was 19.52 percent for India and 26.46 percent for Namibia, respectively. There were similarities and differences in responses from SMEs in both countries. Similarities are in terms of limited implementation of QM practices, and also less use of tools and techniques. Reasons for not implementing include unknown to the authors, and the high cost of training. Differences emerged in the type of market (Indian SMEs catering to one major customer), CSFs and business performance indicators. It was interesting to find that management commitment and involvement do not have a major influence as CSF for SMEs in both the countries. Originality/value: The research is the first attempt in bringing a comparative study about QM practices in SMEs from developing countries. The majority of the medieval poetry-(sub)genres has already been established in the classical period. The 'mainstream' genres coexisted with the so called hybrid texts, which often united two different subgenres within one song. In this paper I focus on examples of such mutations/ interferences, which combine two specific genres that can be positioned into a different spot within the time/ space-specter, such as an early combination of the domestic Wechsel with a dawn song by Morungen or a later down song/ pastourelle by an anonymous Czech author. In accordance with Eco's theory on open texts and Bachtin's idea of polyphony, the extent to which multivocalism represents an intended strategy of the producer of a lyrical text is to be discussed. For all the familiarity of the Aesopic fable of the Crow and the Pitcher, at least in Anglophone lands, no scholarly study of it has ever been made. A survey of the ancient texts reveals some surprising results. First, the early narrators relate the bird's actions mostly as an actual occurrence rather than as a folktale. Second, only toward the end of antiquity did some unknown author convert the narrative of the crow into a fable and invent a moral for it. How did it become a fable? The present essay illustrates how ancient makers of fable books went about their work, collecting and retelling traditional fables but also remaking narratives of other kinds into fables. Once the narrative of the Crow and the Pitcher was recast as a fable, it became a staple of written fable collections and has frequently been given visual treatment by illustrators. An initial fragment from an unpublished novel, signed by Henri H. Stahl, the Romanian sociologist, was published earlier in issue no. 5-6 / 2018 of the Romanian Journal of Sociology. The text was accompanied by an introductory study in which I presented information regarding the manuscript, as well as the context in which it had been created and the motives behind this unexpected literary venture. The fragment selected for publication was meant to highlight this new and hither to unknown talent of its author. This sample of his work provides significant insight into H.H. Stahl's linguistic talents, as he used expressive and beautiful language to recreate the atmosphere of villages from long ago. Full of passion and emotion, the text shed a new light upon the personality of the great Romanian sociologist, who was always reserved in his scientific texts. From "between the lines", one can feel his love and deep attachment to the faith of the peasants and their villages. Two new unpublished fragments of the novel, meant to complement the previous fragment, are now available at the end of this brief article. In them, one can recognize Stahl's keen analytical view, that of a highly skilled sociologist capable of engaging people in genuine and revealing conversations while possessing the sharp eye of the observant researcher, in quest of details and nuances. The meaning of the „sublime” has constantly changed, since the ancient treaty Peri Hypsos, a first stylistic theory written by the anonymous Greek author known as Longinus. From the „elevated” style of poetry, the term suffered a semantic transgression that includes also the emotions of the soul. Aristotle's theories of motion were reassumed by the theology of the middle ages in works like Emunah Ramah or Exalted Faith, by Ibn Daud and the Summa Theologiae of Thomas Aquinas, which adds the „beauty” to our aesthetic categories. The ambivalent feelings and affects of melancholy are strongly bounded to the sublime, as initiation and enlightenment stages of the soul through the spirit. After Nicolas Boileau's interpretation of the Longinian text, rediscovered in the 17th century, many authors like Edmund Burke, Carl Heineken, Moses Mendelssohn and Carl Grosse published their theories about the sublime, from a psychological approach or by introducing the essential role of the genius, leading us to conclude that the sublime is an individual, deeply personal experience, infinitely elevating and expanding the soul. The anonymous author of the Life of Saint Syncletica opens his account of the protagonist’ s ascetic experience with a meaningful comparison. Since the figure of Thecla is a model for a Christian virgin, a complete parallelism between the two women would be simply a topos. But the laudanda deserves more than commonplace praise: in Syncletica’ s case, the Devil «demonstrates his more piercing brand of evil by disturbing her from within through her own contrary and destructive thoughts». Such a comparison deserves to be analysed more deeply. Since the Acts of Paul and Thecla establish an ascetic model, the first step would be a detailed reconstruction of Thecla’ s relationship with her body as it is depicted by ancient sources. Then, the description of Syncletica’ s regimen in the 5th-century Life would help us to better understand this ascetic ideal, allowing us to lay the foundations for a new and more conscious comparison between two temporally distant models of female asceticism. Thus, the aim of this paper is to define the true meaning of the aforementioned discipleship, analysing the relationship between two illustrious examples of women dealing with bodily privation. At the beginning of the 19th century (probably, also in the 18th century), in Calvin-ist writing greater attention started to be paid to the needs of the addressee -- they dared to deviate more from the Polish tradition, and translations solely very closely related to the Polish source were no longer prepared. This is demonstrated by the results of the studies of Seanas Katechizmas (hereinafter referred to as SK). 1. The Calvinist work Seanas Katechizmas (1803), which was prepared for the press by Mykolas Cerauskas, is not homogeneous. the quotes from the Bible, hymns and prayers (except one), with minimal amendments, were taken from the catechism and primer Pradžios pamokslas (hereinafter referred to as PP) of 1680, from which the alphabet and examples of syllables as well as numbers were also taken. SK's foreword and one prayer ("Małda Rita untra" SK 29-30) were prepared by Mykolas Cerauskas himself, which is evidenced by his other work, Kozonis padekawonies, coinciding features of spelling and language of the texts. 2. The main text, catechism (i.e. teaching the truths of faith), is of a slightly different spelling, language, and content than the texts of PP and those prepared by Cerauskas. Therefore, it was not prepared by Cerauskas. However, similarly to Cerauskas, the anonymous author was from the area of eastern Aukštaičiai (probably, Panevėžys) area (as demonstrated by part of the phonetic features, including reduced verb forms), but from a dialect that is rather farther to the west (this is reflected by some of the nasal reflexes). Unlike Cerauskas, the author managed to better overcome the peculiarities of his native dialect and to adhere to the norms of the middle variant (however, it is also true that more accurate spelling tradition, writing and other, were not taken over). 3. It is highly likely that in the 18th century, a significantly revised manuscript version of the catechism and primer was prepared. It departed from previously existing Lithuanian and Polish Calvinist catechisms ("Who are you?" type of catechism order). It was simplified even more than PP and was adapted to teach children. The main texts of faith -- the Lord's Prayer, the Confession of Faith, the Decalogue, and the description of the sacraments -- departed from the versions of the 17th century very little but their order of presentation and the introductory part of the catechism were different. The author of this manuscript was probably a Calvinist priest who worked in a parish school. There is a lack of data to determine whether more catechism versions were developed at that time. 4. Despite its unusual structure, its difference from the catechisms of the "Who are you?" type, the manuscript catechism was included in the SK work of the early 19th century and, with a minor addition and other existing SK texts, was replicated under the title of the Shorter Catechism (Trumpas Katechizmas) in 1860s. This article presents a unique method in text and data mining for finding the era, i.e., mining temporal data, in which an anonymous author was living. Finding this era can assist in the examination of a fake document or extracting the time period in which a writer lived. The study and the experiments concern Hebrew, and in some parts, Aramaic and Yiddish rabbinic texts. The rabbinic texts are undated and contain no bibliographic sections, posing an interesting challenge. This work proposes algorithms using key phrases and key words that allowthe temporal organization of citations together with linguistic patterns. Based on these key phrases, key words, and the references, we established several types of "Iron-clad," Heuristic and Greedy rules for estimating the years of birth and death of a writer in an interesting classification task. Experiments were conducted on corpora, including documents authored by 12, 24, and 36 rabbinic writers and demonstrated promising results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The presented article analyses the paratexes in poetry collections of Johanna Ambrosius and Katharina Koch. Karl Weiß Schrattenthal, a teacher, publisher and a literary critic from Pressburg was instrumental in publishing these collections. We are defining and dividing paratexts based on Gérard Genette’s Paratexts. After a brief introduction of both authors and the publisher, this study provides an analysis of the paratexts and a comparison between them. The analysis demonstrated how the success of the writers (especially Johanna Ambrosius) reflects within the paratexts, as well as the paratextual practices used by the publisher when first releasing unknown authors. The article offers information on the transition of JNeurosci from a traditional peer review process to an open peer review model. Topics include the historical background of peer review, the traditional model's reliance on confidential reviews and rebuttals, and the decision to adopt an open peer review approach effective October 31, 2023.

Conversely, even if such inherent bias is not evident, institution of double-blind review may still have beneficial impacts, including increased author confidence that their manuscript is being fairly evaluated, and a more equitable relationship between author and reviewer. This means that the reviewers are aware of the identity of the authors and their affiliations while the reviewers' identities remain anonymous to the authors. The article explores the anonymous Victorian book of sexual escapades "My Secret Life" in which the protagonist Walter gallivants throughout Britain having sex, focusing particularly of accounts which reportedly occurred in London, England. It searched census information for "Madame S***k*n*us" believing her to be German woman Hulda Stockenius of the Parish of St Giles.

The author presents an unknown double-sided thick round coin with lion and crown images preserved in a private collection. Based on detailed iconographic and material analyses, and on comparison with the contemporary lion / crown types, the author offers the very likely dating of the coin. It was produced before the reform of George of Poděbrady, i.e. between 1460 and 1469. The coin also documents the fact that the hellers of George with crown in pearled circle could not have been struck after the reform in 1469, but -- very likely -- they had been also produced before the reform. This article analyzes the renowned 1999 Seamus Heaney's Beowulf creative translation with the aim to explore the relationship between the idea of the poem's anonymous author and the translator's imitative and competitive attitude towards it. This article examines the use of anonymous sources in Solomon Star and Island Sun daily newspapers in Solomon Islands. It is aimed to explore why the two newspapers use anonymous sources in the news stories they publish. The two national newspapers face many challenges in maintaining a strong sense of ethics and accountability as most reporters are not qualified, and they compete in a small advertising market to generate revenue. Consequently, they also face challenges from politicians and other public figures over publishing anonymous sources in their papers. The challenges range from threats, intimidation, compensation demands to court battles. A literary criticism of the French epistolary novel "Cent rondeaulx | Et cinq avec" written by an unknown author is presented. According to the article, the title of the work varies upon examination of several conserved manuscripts copied from circa 1513 to 1530 and editions printed from 1527 to 1535. The theme of unhappy love between a young man and a married woman is also discussed.

The article focuses on the medieval French prose Chronique française des rois de France by the Anonymous of Béthune in 1217. The French prose was discovered by Léopold Delisle in 1891 and had been considered a valuable source for the history of the reigns of Philip Augustus and John Lackland. The Anonymous author was well informed about the factual struggles between the two kings and held a relevant place in the history of Medieval French literature.

The paper examines the Chronicle from Spišská Sobota (Szepesszombat, Georgenberg, Mons Sancti Georgii / Forum Sabathi), written in German in the middle of the 15th century. It argues that the chronicle is not merely an annalistic record, but forms a narrative about the inhabitants of the Spiš region. The unknown author adapted motifs from Hungarian chronicles to promote the rights and legitimacy of the Spišian community, intentionally linking historical and legal arguments. For the chronicler, the Spišians are participants in state-formation and simultaneously the beneficiaries of royal privileges. While constructing the collective identity of the Spišians, the author of the chronicle also concealed conflicts within that community and identified “enemies” in agreement with the narrative of the Chronica hungarorum. This article discusses an unpublished play, Acteonisation du Grand Veneur d'Hollande (1643). Created - and possibly performed - within the immediate circle of the court of Elizabeth of Bohemia in The Hague, its anonymous author satirizes the various personalities in the Orange courts of respectively Frederik Hendrik and Amalia von Solms, and Willem ii and Mary Stuart. Focusing on the social ambitions of Johannes Polyander van Kerckhoven, Lord of Heenvliet, and by using the popular myth of Actaeon and Diana, the clash between court and city, between princely aristocrats and republican burghers is played out. The essay with the expressive title Altercatio Ecclesiae et Synagogae, which would roughly translate as Argument between Church and Synagogue, owes its relative prestige and general preservation to the fact that it was ascribed to the great St Augustine. Altercatio fits into the chain of a long and for the Early Church important tradition of anti-Jewish polemic. Namely, long before Augustine, Christian theologians developed the influential idea that the historical, old Israel as the true, chosen people was replaced by the Church, the true Israel. The central focuses of polemic writing by Christians on Jewish subjects have not changed much during the several hundred year long tradition. The author of the Altercatio, unlike his predecessors, thinks a lot in purely profane political categories. The Church and the Synagogue actually act as secular rulers where one replaced or toppled the other. Translated biography of Martin Luther was written in 1791 by anonymous author. In those time in Slovak or Bohemian language similar opus did not exist. Opus was markedly apologetical, but on the other side negated some legends, so it may be understood as valuable historical document. Moreover, it was dedicated for people, who didn't understand any foreign languages. Author was closely acquainted with Luther's curriculum vitae and what is interesting, likened him to Ján Hus.
