Objective There are so many people with disabilities worldwide. This condition has led to taking various national and international measures regarding the rights of people with disabilities. Protecting the rights of people with disabilities in the context of international methods is an important issue that has been explored for years. This study aims to explain the dimensions of the rights of people with disabilities in Iran. Materials & Methods In this study, the meta-synthesis method was used, and the statistical population of the research articles was extracted from various research databases, such as Magiran, Normgaz, Regional Information Center for Science and Technology, Science Net Database, Nematan, Civilica, and Humanities Portal were selected. In this study, based on the inclusion criteria, such as title, abstract, content, and quality assessment of studies, 14 articles were finally selected for study analysis. In addition, the time frame of this research is from 2009 to 2020. Also, this study used the 7-step method of Sandelowski and Barros (2007) to analyze the research data. Results The most important rights of the disabled are employment, human value and dignity, education, belonging, proper design of urban furniture, access to health services, elimination of social discrimination, recreation and leisure, social security, freedom, and transportation. By reviewing and integrating the initial findings in this study, after going back and forth between sub-fields, 7 main fields of disability rights were obtained: cultural, economic, political, architectural and urban rights, social, medical, and legal rights. This study examined the content validity ratio and content validity index. The opinions of 8 experts in this field have been used to calculate this ratio. Concerning the content validity ratio, it should be said that it was acceptable for all dimensions. The Kappa index has been used to measure the reliability of the designed model; the kappa coefficient is calculated to be 87%, which is at a high level of the agreement due to the status of the kappa index. Conclusion Legally, people with disabilities have cultural, economic, political, architectural, urban, social, medical, and legal rights. Different and negative views of managers and individuals in society have led to disregarding the rights of people with disabilities. Lack of proper knowledge about people with disabilities and subsequent marginalization will have negative consequences. Proper knowledge of this phenomenon and awareness of the capabilities of people with disabilities is an effective step toward developing a country. Most people with disabilities have been deprived of their basic social, economic, political, and cultural rights. In this regard, pervasive stereotypes, attitudes, and discrimination have reinforced this injustice. It is worthwhile that by changing the perspective of the international community, government, and citizens, able-bodied people can live a just life alongside others. Communication has been a struggle for everyone since the covid outbreak and in the aftermath, people have had to get accustomed to video conferencing applications. However people with physical or mental limitations are still unable to use video conferencing apps and their interfaces. This necessitates the development of web-based video chat applications. These applications can aid those who are unable to communicate verbally and/or operate using standard mouse and keyboard inputs, but yet need to feel close to others when they are apart. The proposed application incorporates various accessibility features such as speech-to-text and text-to-speech, gaze tracking and pictorial speech interfaces. It enables individuals with disabilities to participate in virtual meetings on an equal footing with their peers. Integrating smart heterogeneous objects, IoT devices, data sources, and software services to produce new business processes and functionalities continues to attract considerable attention from the research community due to its unraveled advantages, including reusability, adaptation, distribution, and pervasiveness. However, the exploitation of service-oriented computing technologies (e.g., SOC, SOA, and microservice architectures) by people with special needs is underexplored and often overlooked. Furthermore, the existing challenges in this area are yet to be identified clearly. This research study presents a rigorous literature survey of the recent advances in service-oriented composition approaches and solutions for disabled people, their domains of application, and the major challenges, covering studies published between January 2010 and October 2022. To this end, we applied the systematic literature review (SLR) methodology to retrieve and collate only the articles presenting and discussing service composition solutions tailored to produce digitally accessible services for consumption by people who suffer from an impairment or loss of some physical or mental functions. We searched six renowned bibliographic databases, particularly IEEE Xplore, Web of Science, Springer Link, ACM Library, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar, to synthesize a final pool of 38 related articles. Our survey contributes a comprehensive taxonomy of service composition solutions, techniques, and practices that are utilized to create assistive technologies and services. The seven-facet taxonomy helps researchers and practitioners to quickly understand and analyze the fundamental conceptualizations and characteristics of accessible service composition for people with disabilities. Key findings showed that services are fused to assist disabled persons to carry out their daily activities, mainly in smart homes and ambient intelligent environments. Despite the emergence of immersive technologies (e.g., wearable computing), user-service interactions are enabled primarily through tactile and speech modalities. Service descriptions mainly incorporate functional features (e.g., performance, latency, and cost) of service quality, largely ignoring accessibility features. Moreover, the outstanding research problems revolve around (1) the unavailability of assistive services datasets, (2) the underspecification of accessibility aspects of disabilities, (3) the weak adoption of accessible and universal design practices, (4) the abstraction of service composition approaches, and (5) the rare experimental testing of composition approaches with disabled users. We conclude our survey with a set of guidelines to realize effective assistive service composition in IoT and cloud environments. Researchers and practitioners are advised to create assistive services that support the social relationships of disabled users and model their accessibility needs as part of the quality of service (QoS). Moreover, they should exploit AI/ML models to address the evolving requirements of disabled users in their unique environments. This study seeks to develop Age-Friendly University (AFU) implementation guidelines to enable universities to self-identify their age-friendliness levels and establish specific strategies toward becoming an AFU. The survey was completed by primary leads for 26 AFUs-recognized institutions globally. The questionnaires included an inventory of 68 possible attributes of an AFU. The respondents were asked to (a) report the status of their institution in terms of performance on the attributes and (b) state the relative desirability of each attribute as a potential guideline for assessing the performance of AFU attributes. For institution's performance, 'Social engagement and support' had the highest (3.32) age-friendliness level, followed by an 'Age-friendly environment' (3.31), 'Administrative support' (3.15), Lifelong learning' (3.11), and 'Reflecting the needs of older people' (2.83). Furthermore, the overall score was highest in Canada (3.82), followed by Europe (3.51), the USA (3.14), and Asia (2.67). Among attributes, 'There are elevators in major buildings (that older adults use frequently)' was the highest (4.40); followed by 'The campus and surrounding environment in our school are clean for older adults to use' (4.28). We also asked participants about "the adequacy of the AFU as a guideline. 'Members of our university's community are respectful and friendly toward older adults' was the highest (4.43)." However, in this study, 8 attributes scored less than 3 points for appropriateness. Consequently, we condensed the instrument to 60 attributes. This study is novel in proposing guidelines to implement strategies to apply and operationalize the somewhat abstract concept of age-friendliness of universities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

People with intellectual disability are at higher risk of experiencing social isolation in their everyday lives, because of exclusionary practices, discriminatory social policies and structural exclusion. However, less is known about what people with intellectual disability themselves think about loneliness in their lives and what might alleviate it. In this inclusive research study, 17 people with intellectual disability participated in focus groups or individual interviews and talked about what makes them feel lonely and what helps them to feel included. Our findings indicate that the domains of interaction, participation, personal security and attitudes are areas of strong influence on people's experience of inclusion and exclusion and hold opportunities for positive change. Change at systems and community levels is needed to ensure people with intellectual disability are included, have access to disability-ready places that respect their human rights, listen, recognise and include their strategies to alleviate loneliness. Importance: Playgrounds facilitate important opportunities for growth and development during childhood. Despite accessibility regulations, these experiences are not afforded to children with disabilities as a result of environmental and societal barriers. Objective: To identify and synthesize existing research on the relationship between key areas of development and accessible play settings for children with disabilities to inform evidence-based interventions and advocacy work. Data Sources: The following databases were searched on January 30, 2021: Academic Search Complete/EBSCO, CINAHL/EBSCO, Education Research Complete/EBSCO, ERIC, OTseeker, and PubMed. Study Selection and Data Collection: This systematic review was conducted using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Studies were peer-reviewed, included children with disabilities ages 3 to 12 in an accessible play setting, and had outcomes related to areas of childhood development. Validated tools were used to determine risk of bias and quality of evidence. Findings: Nine articles met inclusion criteria: 1 Level 3b matched case–control study, 4 Level 4 cross-sectional studies, 3 Level 5 qualitative studies, and 1 mixed-methods study with Levels 4 and 5 evidence. Eight of 9 studies reported that social participation, play participation, and motor skills development were negatively affected despite playgrounds being labeled accessible. Conclusions and Relevance: Children with disabilities have decreased engagement in activities that provide opportunities for play, social participation, and motor skills development. Practitioners should address occupational injustice in the playground setting by engaging in program development, policy, and playground design to reduce stigma and increase accessibility. What This Article Adds: By addressing play accessibility, occupational therapy practitioners could significantly reduce instances of play inequity. Creating interdisciplinary teams to address accessible playground design locally would allow occupational therapy practitioners the opportunity to make a lasting impact for the children in their community. Introduction. Physical activity (PA) in older people is associated with improved morbidity and mortality outcomes. Increasing numbers of older people are choosing to live in retirement villages, many of which promote themselves as providing opportunities for activity. Aim. To explore the characteristics of PA village residents were undertaking and the associated individual and village factors. Methods. Health, functional and wellbeing information was collected from 577 residents recruited from 34 villages in Auckland, New Zealand, using an International Resident Assessment Instrument and customised survey tools containing items on self-reported PA. Managers from villages completed a survey on village characteristics and facilities. Results. The mean age (s.d.) of village residents was 82 (7) years, and 325 (56%) reporting doing one or more hours of PA in the 3 days prior to assessment. Moderate exercise was performed by 240 (42%) village residents, for a mean (s.d.) of 2.7 (3.4) h per week. The most common activities provided by villages included: bowls/petanque (22, 65%) and exercise classes (22, 65%), and walking was the most common activity undertaken (348, 60%). Factors independently associated with PA included individual factors (gender, fatigue, constipation, self-reported health, number of medications, moving to village for safety and security, utilising village fitness programme, use of the internet, and satisfaction with opportunities to be active) and village-related factors (access to unit, and ownership model). Discussion. PA uptake is determined by many factors at both personal (physical and psychosocial) and environmental levels. Owing to technological advancements, kiosks have become more prevalent in public places. When using such kiosks, elderly persons and people with disabilities face problems related to accessibility and usability, such as difficulties in kiosk operations such as menu selection and in accessing the kiosk space. Previous studies have usually included accessibility as a subset of usability. However, in this study, we aim to redefine the relationship between these two concepts with a focus on newly emerging kiosk devices. First, we performed a literature review to thoroughly analyze these concepts. Then, we conducted a focus group interview (FGI) targeting people with visual, hearing, and physical impairments to learn about the difficulties that these people face when using kiosks. Finally, we analyzed the characteristics of accessibility and usability related to kiosks and designed a diagram that illustrated the relationship between them. While accessibility and usability shared similarities regarding consistency and user control, they differed deeply regarding their subcategory items; many opinions on accessibility were related to essential functions, whereas many on usability were related to psychological factors such as additional functions or personal preferences. Computational Thinking (CT) captures the mental processes used to model and solve problems using a computational processes. While often connected to programming, CT is a core problem-solving skill, which has been advocated by educational researchers as a core skill, at par with reading and comprehension. A variety of learning environments have been proposed to aid young learners in acquiring knowledge of CT. The majority of such environments are highly visual, linking the process of solving a problem computationally to the process of building a graphical representation of an algorithm, e.g., in the form of a graphical jigsaw puzzle. The algorithms are often used to produce a visual output, e.g., animations. The highly visual models have been shown to be inaccessible to young learners with visual disabilities. This paper provides a review of the literature, which addresses the challenges of learning CT by young learners with visual disabilities. The survey offers also a series of recommendations on the effective design of accessible programming learning environments for young learners with visual disabilities. Architects usually design for normative bodies, thus shaping an exclusive environment for many users. This article explores the gap in architectural education that leads to a lack of knowledge in the architectural profession about the various accessibility needs of the wide spectrum of disabled people. It reports on a pilot study, involving architectural educators, to suggest a threshold of integrating a critical awareness of diverse accessibility needs. We found that adopting the social model of disability in the architecture design studio has the potential to serve as a threshold to reach a holistic inclusive design curriculum. A 2012 Massachusetts shelter eligibility regulation required many families to spend a night in a location "not meant for human habitation" before qualifying for the state-run shelter system, and many families experiencing homelessness stayed in pediatric emergency departments (EDs) overnight to meet this requirement. ED clinicians initially recognized an increase in ED visits for homelessness after this regulation and began compiling and sharing stories with key institutional and community partners and stakeholders. To bolster advocacy efforts, the authors collected data on the magnitude of the problem and its associated health care costs. Guided by the policy knowledge of community partners, the authors leveraged the expertise and advocacy power of clinicians to share these data and stories with legislators via written and oral testimony, community events, and the media. Academic publication lent additional credibility and exposure to their research. In 2019, the Massachusetts Legislature passed budget language to overturn the 2012 shelter eligibility regulation. However, despite this policy victory, some families continue to present to EDs for homelessness. Therefore, current advocacy efforts have shifted focus toward implementation and enforcement of the new policy, monitoring issues, and developing new programmatic responses. In this advocacy case study, we illustrate how clinicians have unique abilities to serve as effective advocates for social policy change using a framework of strategies including storytelling, coalition building, tailored communication, and data sharing. Partnering with existing advocacy networks within their institution and community enhances the advocacy efforts of all stakeholders to influence social and health outcomes for children and families. The study aims to explore the barriers and facilitators related to the use of mobility devices among older adults. A total of 815 studies conducted between 2000–2020 were retrieved from Scopus. Eight primary research studies met the eligibility criteria for the scoping review. Systematic processes of study identification, data extraction, and data synthesis were used. The barriers and facilitators were identified in terms of three aspects: environment, user, and device. The environmental barriers comprised external and internal environmental factors that hinder use, including limited indoor and outdoor accessibility, limited transportation options, and weather. External environmental factors such as curb ramps and amenities for anti-fatigue were identified as the environmental facilitators. The negative perceptions of older adults and related stigma prevented them from using mobility devices, particularly when they considered them a sign of disability and dependence. However, users' adoption of mobility devices was facilitated if the devices were perceived as an aid for balancing and preventing older adults from falling or if recommended by a physician. In addition, the design of the devices influenced the positive or negative acceptance of older adults. The issue of cost was identified as a device-related barrier, and it can be improved with a government support system. In addition, the design and functions of mobility devices need to meet the needs and preferences of older adults while preserving their self-image and dignity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Occupational therapists recommending home modifications in Australia are often required by funding bodies to consider 'value' and 'value for money' (VFM); however, clear guidance on how to define and apply these concepts is not always provided. This paper reports on a qualitative study examining how the concepts of value and VFM are currently understood and operationalised by occupational therapists in Australian home modification practice, with the aim of positively contributing to both policy and practice in this area. Methods: The study utilised constructivist grounded theory to collect and analyse qualitative data from 20 occupational therapists who were currently working across Australia and had professional experience in home modifications. Findings: The grounded theory that was derived from the analysis highlights the unique position that occupational therapists occupy in home modification work as they strive to align the values of different stakeholders to create solutions that all consider to be valuable. In the absence of consistent frameworks or methods for determining value and VFM, evidence also emerged of occupational therapists using a range of individual approaches such as using formal and informal care as metrics, cheapest option approaches, and comparative costing. Conclusion: In addition to a clear need for consistent and transparent approaches to understanding and operationalising VFM in home modifications, there is also a need for further investigation into the value systems that underpin this work. A conceptualisation of occupational therapists as street‐level policy agents has proven useful here as it highlights the position occupational therapists occupy, enacting, making, and, at times, challenging policy in day‐to‐day practice as they work to align the values of the various stakeholders. In this commentary article, we explore the needs of people with communication disability in relation to sustainable and inclusive communities. More green and public spaces is one strategy identified by the United Nations in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for creating sustainable and inclusive communities. We argue that through thoughtful design, these spaces could address the needs of people with communication disability and foster greater social interaction thereby supporting mental well-being. We present a model related to planning and design of green and public spaces that may provide a useful framework for considering the communication needs of people with a communication disability. Creative and practical approaches to planning green and public spaces, in consultation with local community members with lived experience of communication disability, helps to ensure inclusive meeting spaces that encourage connection over isolation. Well-designed green and public spaces provide opportunities for natural communication for people with communication disability and may decrease their sense of isolation, thereby reducing the risk of concomitant mental health problems. Future research is needed to explore how stakeholder consultation could enhance planning processes and address the specific needs of people with communication disability. The World Wide Web has become an important platform for sharing a wide array of information within the world community. In the post-COVID-19 scenario, the web become a primary source of information in the context of healthcare information dissemination. Healthcare institutions, such as hospitals and clinics, utilize this platform to provide services to reach their target users. It is essential to evaluate the web pages of healthcare institutions and compute their accessibility score for people with disabilities or special needs. This paper presents a variable-magnitude approach to compute the accessibility score of healthcare web pages, considering several requirements of people with disabilities. To compute the accessibility score through the proposed approach, we considered two different components and integrated them to compute the accessibility score through the proposed algorithm. The proposed approach was experimentally applied to sixteen healthcare institutes' web pages in Hungary. Based on the experiment's results and the received feedback from an accessibility specialist, a set of suggestions is provided to minimize the accessibility barrier and improve the accessibility score for people with disabilities to access web resources without difficulty. The main contribution of this work is in enhancing awareness of web platform accessibility for web practitioners to improve accessibility, so that people with disabilities can effectively access web resources. Purpose: To review evidence around design interventions that influence exiting attempts in dementia care units, informing architectural and clinical practice. Background: Built environment design is recognized as important in the care and management of responsive behaviors for those living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias in secured dementia care units (e.g., exiting attempts, agitation). The repetitious behavior of "walking with purpose" (previously termed wandering) in those with dementia has influenced safety-related architectural design components of dementia care units that decrease exiting attempts. Empirical literature addressing design interventions to prevent exiting for those with dementia is lacking and outdated. Methods: We sought to describe known design techniques through a topical analysis of experimental studies. A thorough search for empirical studies that assessed interior design interventions at exit doors within dementia care units was undertaken. The review included an extensive search for existing literature and a screening of each study identified for its relevance, quality, and applicability. Results: The experimental studies included in the review collectively assessed five interior design interventions at egress doorways: implementing horizontal and vertical floor grid patterns, mirrors, murals, conditioning responses to color cues, and camouflaging door hardware or vision panels. Why empirical studies have not continued more recently as built environment trends have shifted toward promoting meaningful and purposeful movement through design are considered. Advances in our understanding around the pathophysiology of dementia which might affect future design interventions related to egress are also identified. Conclusion: The built environment is an important part of dementia care, and further prospective research is needed on the role of design interventions in the context of exiting attempts within secured units and subsequent behavior outcomes. As supporting active and healthy aging calls for different community- based housing alternatives, integrated knowledge of their impacts on older adults' social participation is required. This study aimed to explore how community-based housing fostered social participation in older adults. A scoping review was used to systematically identify relevant studies according to 32 keywords in 8 electronic databases. Published during 2000-- 2021, the 46 studies were carried out in North America, Europe, Oceania, and Asia, documenting older adults' social participation in six community-based housing models. Targeting different clienteles, these models mainly promote older adults' social participation by providing: 1) accessible common space in a design favorable to social interactions; 2) proximity to resources; 3) flexible rules and policies that facilitate residents' interactions with not only co-residents but community neighbors; and 4) benevolent communities. These results highlight the interactions between the physical and social environments; they suggest the importance of building benevolent communities as well as of sharing resources among residences and local communities to create a supportive living and neighborhood environment for active and healthy aging. Future studies should further explore the role of different stakeholders in developing benevolent communities by considering the dynamics between the person and the environment. As funder, journal, and disciplinary norms and mandates have foregrounded obligations of data sharing and opportunities for data reuse, the need to plan for and curate data sets that can reach researchers and end-users with disabilities has become even more urgent. We begin by exploring the disability studies literature, describing the need for advocacy and representation of disabled scholars as data creators, subjects, and users. We then survey the landscape of data repositories, curation guidelines, and research-data-related standards, finding little consideration of accessibility for people with disabilities. We suggest three sets of minimal good practices for moving toward truly accessible research data: 1) ensuring Web accessibility for data repositories; 2) ensuring accessibility of common text formats, including those used in documentation; and 3) enhancement of visual and audiovisual materials. We point to some signs of progress in regard to truly accessible data by highlighting exemplary practices by repositories, standards, and data professionals. An increasing focus in aged care policy is supporting older people to age at home. However, there is little recognition of the health and independence of older private renters living in a space they do not own or control. This paper draws on in-depth interviews and assessments undertaken in the homes of 27 older tenants in the Brisbane environs aiming to understand how renting privately influenced their ability to meet their basic needs. An analysis of the findings highlights the disadvantage experienced by many older private renters. Most older private renters were unable to meet their basic needs given unaffordable rent whilst reliant on the aged pension. Further, with limited access to community aged care including home modifications, the health and independence of older private renters was found to be at risk. IMPLICATIONS Community aged care is difficult for older private renters to utilise in Australia, with unaffordable services and tenancy law limiting access to community aged care services including home modifications. The COVID-19 pandemic altered daily life in the United States and disrupted how people engage in routine health behaviors, such as physical activity (PA). This study investigates factors that may have helped people sustain recommended levels of moderate to vigorous PA (MVPA) during this time. Using a cross-sectional design, we recruited from Amazon's Mechanical Turk in April/May 2020 a sample of individuals who reported that they had met recommended PA guidelines (≥ 150 weekly MVPA minutes; N = 397) prior to structural changes brought about by COVID-19. We assessed via self-report whether these individuals were meeting recommended levels of MVPA during the COVID-19 pandemic, their intrinsic motivation and identified regulation for exercise, exercise self-efficacy, perceived disruption to their exercise routine, and access to resources for PA. Higher identified regulation, self-efficacy, access to PA resources, and lower perceived disruption were associated with meeting PA guidelines during COVID-19. These findings provide insight into factors that may be important for continued engagement in MVPA when one experiences major disruptions to their exercise routine. As the electronic age has taken hold of the global community, and digital devices have become the mainstay of human interaction, new accessibility barriers have emerged for people with disabilities. Although most courts now conclude virtual inaccessibility is an injury cognizable under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act, great ambiguity surrounds the injury-in-fact requirement of Article III standing in online accessibility cases. Despite pleading for elucidation and clarifying principles, federal district courts have been left to navigate the uncharted territory of the digital injury-in-fact inquiry with exiguous guidance from higher courts. The resultant confusion in the federal courts has manifested itself as diametrically contradictory injury-in-fact holdings in factually identical cases, both inter- and intra-circuit. This Comment clarifies the digital injury-in-fact inquiry by identifying and dissecting four crucial issues dividing federal courts in ADA Title III online accessibility cases: (1) the location a plaintiff must intend to return; (2) the application of the geographic intent-to-return test factors in cyberspace; (3) the role of future injury; and (4) the scope of virtual standing. First, this Comment argues the destination of a plaintiff's intent to return is preordained by the type of injury alleged by the plaintiff. If a plaintiff alleges a purely virtual website injury, federal courts must assess the plaintiff's intent to return to the inaccessible website. If a plaintiff alleges a hybrid website injury, federal courts must assess the plaintiff's intent to return to the inaccessible website and intent to avail themselves to the goods or services of the public accommodation's brick-and-mortar location. Second, this Comment contends the geographic intent-to-return factors are not probative of a plaintiff's intent to return to a website. However, federal courts cannot merely remove the geographic factors from the intent-to-return test because the resulting analysis infringes on Supreme Court precedent. Rather, federal courts must substitute the intent-to-return test's geographic factors with factors appropriate in cyberspace. Third, this Comment asserts the injury-in-fact inquiry cannot be satisfied by past injury alone. Instead, federal courts must assess the plaintiff's likelihood of future injury. Finally, this Comment argues federal courts should not adopt a lenient approach to standing because a lenient approach is not necessitated by Supreme Court precedent, it is inconsistent with Supreme Court precedent, and it exacerbates the extant issue of serial litigation in online accessibility cases. The article discusses the call for social work professionals to develop their Disability cultural competence with priorities on inclusion and antiableism as of January 2023. Topics covered include social work's alignment with the intersectional Disability Justice movement, ableism integration with social work education, and four steps to realize antiableism. Also noted are the steps of ableism recognition, generation of relevant data, supporting leadership, and promoting partnerships.

The article describes the opportunities that libraries offer as workplaces for disadvantaged workers. It emphasizes that the needs of these workers must be taken into account when planning the areas of responsibility. Various fields of work in libraries are mentioned, which can be selected according to needs and abilities. The importance of an accessible design of the library and flexible working hours is also addressed. The employment of disadvantaged workers brings advantages for employers, as there is a legal obligation to employ them in Austria. Home automation based on the Internet of Things (IoT) includes various components such as lighting, security, and remote control. Smart Home (SH) components should be varied and customised according to the user's specific needs. Therefore, in this study, a SH system needed by users with specials is designed and implemented on a model. The NodeMCU microcontroller with ESP8266 Wi-Fi module, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags, temperaturehumidity, motion detection, gas and moisture sensors and several actuators are used to build the system. Thanks to If This Then That (IFTTT), Google Assistant, and Blynk, the SH components can be managed remotely and with voice commands via a user-friendly Android-based mobile interface. The multiple control system and the ability to control the home components with different methods make this study comprehensive. In particular, the barrier-free stairs design has added innovation to the SH system for disabled people. Thus, the accessibility, security, and comfort requirements of disabled people are met, and their quality of life is improved to live independently. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) persist into adulthood; however, little research exists to describe how adults with DCD and/or ADHD cope with their symptoms. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate coping mechanisms reported by adults with DCD, ADHD, or both conditions. We expected there would be strategies specific to each condition and a broader scope of mechanisms reported by those with co-occurring DCD+ADHD. Method: N = 161 participants completed the online survey, including n = 31 with DCD only, n = 116 with ADHD only, and n = 14 with DCD+ADHD. Results: Most participants reported adaptive strategies. Of these, behavioral adaptations were most relevant to ADHD, while environmental modifications were common in DCD. Cognitive reframing and social support were similarly relevant to those with DCD and DCD+ADHD. Coping strategy categories were most uniform for the DCD+ADHD group. Conclusions: Coping profiles highlight several noteworthy differences between DCD and ADHD which may be relevant for treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Museums are key educational and cultural resources in the community, yet many are not accessible to visitors with disabilities. Universal design promotes products and environments usable to the greatest extent possible by all people, regardless of ability. This study explores current industry practice and perceptions of accessibility and universal design in a small sample of American museums. Suggestions for how occupational therapists can help museums go above and beyond ADA guidelines are provided. Method: An 17-item cross-sectional survey was used to collect data. Twenty-five museum associations assisted with recruitment. A descriptive numerical summary and qualitative analysis were used to summarize the results. Results: Sixty respondents participated in the survey. Accommodations for visitors with visual impairment and physical barriers created by historical buildings were identified as both challenges and successes by the respondents. Confusion between ADA standards and universal design was evident in several responses. Conclusion: The most frequently reported accessibility rating was good. Staff training and community-based partnerships are important, but often overlooked practices for improving accessibility. Local agencies who serve people with disabilities are underused resources in the community. There is a potential role for occupational therapists to assist museums with staff training, recruiting people with disabilities, and establishing community partnerships. At its height, the Covid‐19 pandemic dispersed across society a perception of bodyminded contingency that ushered in modes of “building community” that were unimaginable in pre‐pandemic times, alongside an intensification of health and social inequalities. From the start, disabled people intervened on social media to stress the considerable extent to which the pre‐pandemic knowledge derived from their lived experience, disability theory, and disability rights’ organising could contribute both to the critique of how in pandemic times people were made differentially disposable and to the creation of new relationalities, mostly online, around the principle of accessibility. This article explores how a critical perspective rooted in the lived experience of disability builds on these interventions to excavate the role played by the lived experience of bodyminded contingency and vulnerability during the pandemic in generating a radical transformation of modes of living (together). First, it will suggest that this radical transformation powerfully resonated with the politics of accessibility associated with disability politics. It will do so by delineating the critical significance of commentary produced during the pandemic by disability theorists and activists, as well as the relationship between the perception of widespread bodyminded contingency and vulnerability and the development of “crip utopias of accessibility” and “dismodernist revolutions” during the pandemic. It will then locate this experiential spread of bodyminded contingency and vulnerability at the core of pandemic infrastructural sensibilities. I will conclude by reflecting on its relevance for the development of a “more‐than‐social” model of disability which attends to the crip world‐making power of disability as fundamentally entangling the social and the biological.
