Ecosystem valuation (EV) of soil resources is essential for understanding changes in environmental services in monetary terms. A lack of this information, which includes economic indices, hinders the optimal management of natural resources. This study evaluated the influence of changes in the edaphic ecosystem on the EV of the zone of influence of the Ozogoche and Atillo lake systems in Ecuador. The classification was carried out through spectral indices and support vector machines (SVMs), and the EV was determined through opportunity costs including environmental service provisioning and indirect use. The land use and EV classification methods were performed efficiently; the degradation trend was constant. The Modified Water Difference Index was the most efficient in the extraction of water bodies, with an accuracy of 91%. The SVMs algorithm, in recognizing coverage in general, had an overall accuracy of 85%. The adjustment made to the SVMs algorithm to improve the selection of hyperparameters was effective; a robust architecture of the algorithm in terms of automation was achieved. Between 2000 and 2020, moorland, water and wetland degraded by 19%, 2% and 3.4%, respectively. In 2000, the EV as a function of avoided CO2 content was USD 8.00 × 106; in 2010 and 2020, it was USD 6.00 × 106 and USD 5.00 × 106, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background. Bruxism is a topic of much controversy and is continually debated in the field of dentistry due to the multifaceted clinical relationship that results in painful conditions and consequences to patients. The aim of this review was to determine the effectiveness of a smartphones app in monitoring awake bruxism. Methods. PROSPERO (registration number: CRD42021271190). The eligibility criteria were as followed: observational studies, case–control studies, studies that reported odds ratios, and studies on awake bruxism. The following keywords were searched: [smartphones apps] AND [apps] AND [awake bruxism], OR [sleep bruxism], OR [sleep hygiene], OR [parasomnias], AND [habits]. Results. All the authors agree that the use of the smartphone app allows controlled awake bruxism monitoring. The results also show that the two bruxism are interactive, having negative synergism and substantially increasing the risks of temporomandibular joint pain and temporomandibular disorders. Discussion. In the AB it was possible to identify 70% symptoms through the different frequencies of behavior provided by the App, within the present technological tools have become daily in young and adult population. The app is effective and easy to use by patients, effectively limiting biases the time of evaluation.

This study focused on evaluating the perceptions of a group of call center operators in Quito regarding their work environment using Plithogenic statistics to address the complexity and ambiguity of the responses. The sample included 114 workers from three companies, assessed using the Battery of the Ministry of Social Protection of Colombia and a work stress questionnaire. The results revealed high job demands, perceived as stressful by employees, although satisfaction with the rewards received was shown. However, significant uncertainty was identified regarding control over work, leadership, and social relationships, suggesting critical areas for improvement. The use of Plithogenic logic allowed for an in-depth analysis of these phenomena, providing valuable information for future organizational interventions. It is recommended to implement stress management programs and improve communication and leadership to strengthen role clarity and increase job satisfaction and efficiency. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ABSTRACT Despite its small territory Ecuador hosts a remarkable biological diversity. Paradoxically, its prominent insect richness has been poorly studied and is usually underestimated in biodiversity inventories. Ants are a major component of such richness. With the aim of promoting myrmecological research, we present 20 new ant records for the country belonging to nine genera and six subfamilies. The species Tapinoma ramulorum inrectum Forel is recorded for the first time in South America. We provide brief taxonomic diagnoses and general comments for all species. Our results expand on the records of Formicidae species previously informed for Ecuador and stress the importance of scientific reference collections as biodiversity repositories.
