Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) have positive and negative impacts on the environment. Therefore, life cycle impact assessment (LCIA) can provide a more holistic framework for performance evaluation than the conventional approach. This study added water footprint (WF) to LCIA and defined ϕ index for accounting for the damage ratio of carbon footprint (CF) to WF. The application of these innovations was verified by comparing the performance of 26 WWTPs. These facilities are located in four different climates in Iran, serve between 1,900 and 980,000 people, and have treatment units like activated sludge, aerated lagoon, and stabilization pond. Here, grey water footprint (GWF) calculated the ecological impacts through typical pollutants. Blue water footprint (BWF) included the productive impacts of wastewater reuse, and CF estimated CO2 emissions from WWTPs. Results showed that GWF was the leading factor. ϕ was 4–7.5% and the average WF of WWTPs was 0.6 m3/ca, which reduced 84%, to 0.1 m³/ca, through wastewater reuse. Here, wastewater treatment and reuse in larger WWTPs, particularly with activated sludge had lower cumulative impacts. Since this method takes more items than the conventional approach, it is recommended for integrated evaluation of WWTPs, mainly in areas where the water–energy nexus is a paradigm for sustainable development. Abstract This paper introduces a novel model for spectral clustering to solve the problem of poor connectivity among points within the same cluster as this can negatively impact the performance of spectral clustering. The proposed method leverages both sparsity and connectivity properties within each cluster to find a consensus similarity matrix. More precisely, the proposed approach considers paths of varying lengths in the graph, computing a similarity matrix for each path, and generating a cluster for each path. By combining these clusters using multi-view spectral clustering, the method produces clusters of good quality and robustness when there are outliers and noise. The extracted multiple independent views from different paths in the graph are integrated into a consensus graph. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated on various benchmark datasets and compared to state-of-the-art techniques.

Abstract Background Through investigating genetic variations, it has been demonstrated that single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the IL-23 receptor (IL23R) gene have a critical role in the pathophysiology of ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Here, we investigated whether the IL23R variant (rs1884444) is associated with AS in the Iranian population. Methods and material In this research, we analyzed rs1884444 in a group of 425 patients with AS and 400 matched controls. For DNA extraction, the phenol/chloroform technique was utilized. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were obtained from the whole blood of 39 patients and 43 healthy controls and total RNA was extracted. Genotyping was performed by amplification-refractory mutation system (ARMS)–PCR method. Afterward, the expression level of IL23R was analyzed by the real-time quantitative (Q)-PCR method. Results We observed no significant association between the distribution of alleles and genotypes of rs1884444 and susceptibility to AS. In addition, the expression level of IL23R did not differ between PBMCs from AS patients compared to the control group (P = 0.167). Abstract Background Growing antibiotic resistance has made treating otitis externa (OE) increasingly challenging. On the other hand, local antimicrobial treatments, especially those that combine essential oils (EOs) with nanoparticles, tend to be preferred over systemic ones. It was investigated whether Ajwain (Trachyspermum ammi) EO, combined with chitosan nanoparticles modified by cholesterol, could inhibit the growth of bacterial pathogens isolated from OE cases in dogs. In total, 57 dogs with clinical signs of OE were examined and bacteriologically tested. Hydrogels of Chitosan were synthesized by self-assembly and investigated. EO was extracted (Clevenger machine), and its ingredients were checked (GC-MS analysis) and encapsulated in chitosan-cholesterol nanoparticles. Disc-diffusion and broth Micro-dilution (MIC and MBC) examined its antimicrobial and therapeutic properties. Results Staphylococcus pseudintermedius (49.3%) was the most common bacteria isolated from OE cases, followed by Pseudomonas aeruginosa (14.7%), Escherichia coli (13.3%), Streptococcus canis (9.3%), Corynebacterium auriscanis (6.7%), Klebsiella pneumoniae (2.7%), Proteus mirabilis (2.7%), and Bacillus cereus (1.3%). The investigation into the antimicrobial properties of Ajwain EO encapsulated in chitosan nanoparticles revealed that it exhibited a more pronounced antimicrobial effect against the pathogens responsible for OE. Conclusions Using chitosan nanoparticles encapsulated with EO presents an effective treatment approach for dogs with OE that conventional antimicrobial treatments have not cured. This approach not only enhances antibacterial effects but also reduces the required dosage of antimicrobials, potentially preventing the emergence of antimicrobial resistance.

AbstractThe aim of present study is to identify indicators for development capabilities of digital marketing insurance industry indexes in Iran. It is a development- applied research and it is a descriptive- survey by nature and it is also the mixed type of qualitative and quantitative approach. In this study, extraction of indicators for development capabilities of digital marketing with the help of textual content analysis method is performed and then these indicators are screened in the insurance industry by using Delphi technique and finally, the indicators have been categorized by using the exploratory factor analysis method. In the textual content analysis section, the statistical population of the research includes documents and upstream records related to the development of digital marketing capabilities and the sampling method is purposeful. In Delphi section, the statistical population of the study was 10 insurance industry experts who were selected using purposive sampling and the statistical population in the exploratory factor analysis section is 384 insurance industry experts who were selected by using random sampling method. The field study tool of this research is a questionnaire. Findings show that knowledge of the set of factors and indicators for development of digital marketing capabilities of the insurance industry in Iran is very important for managers and researchers. These indicators include environmental advertising, SMS advertising, customer relationship, and etc. Finally, according to the indicators, indicators were categorized in the three dimensions of marketing research, organization's digital organization, and customer-related factors. In this regard, first businesses should adopt a suitable marketing strategy and determine the size of the market, and then establish a proper relationship with experts, and consider the importance of advertising according to marketing research. The second identified dimension is the organization's digital organization. Ease of use, trust and security should be considered in these organizations. These communications should be done through useful channels. Another important issue in this section is the discussion of website design and the production of high-quality content, which improves customer satisfaction. The compatibility and cost of these organizations should be taken into consideration. The third identified dimension is customer related factors. Communication with the customer is always important for the business and they should take steps towards customer satisfaction and loyalty. reducing the time risk, financial risk, increasing the general and specialized knowledge of the audience and improving the response time are some other points that are important in this field.

Efficient energy management is crucial for optimizing greenhouse (GH) operations and promoting sustainability. This paper presents a novel multi-objective optimization approach tailored for GH energy management, aiming to minimize grid energy consumption while maximizing battery state of charge (SOC) within a specified time frame. The optimization problem integrates decision variables such as network power, battery power, and battery energy, subject to constraints based on battery capacity and initial energy, along with minimum and maximum energy from the battery storage system. Through the comparison of a smart energy management system (EMS) with traditional optimization algorithms, the study evaluates its efficiency. Key hyperparameters essential for the optimization problem, including plateau time, prediction time, and optimization time, are determined using the ellipse optimization method. Treating the GH as a microgrid, the analysis encompasses energy management indicators and loads. A simulation conducted via Simulink in MATLAB software (R2021b) demonstrates a significant enhancement, with the smart EMS achieving a more than 50% reduction in the objective function compared to conventional EMS. Moreover, the EMS exhibits robust performance across variations in the load power and irradiation profile. Under partial shading conditions, the EMS maintains adaptability, with a maximum objective function increase of 0.35553%. Aligning the output power of photovoltaic (PV) systems with real-world conditions further validates the EMS’s effectiveness in practical scenarios. The findings underscore the efficiency of the smart EMS in optimizing energy consumption within GH environments, offering promising avenues for sustainable energy management practices. This research contributes to advancing energy optimization strategies in agricultural settings, thereby fostering resource efficiency and environmental stewardship.

The division of domestic labor or the distribution of responsibilities and necessary tasks for maintaining the home and family members has historically evolved since the industrialization period and has had important as a social phenomenon in academic discussions since the 1970s. Social and economic contexts have always influenced the relationships and interactions between men and women and their gender roles in the family. They have regulated the relationships between them throughout the history of family development. This paper describes the women's experience of domestic labor division with their husbands in the family. In addition, analytical concepts such as gender equality in the division of domestic labor, economic dependency, and gender deviation neutralization (in gender roles) under the theory of relative resources have been used. Also, the thematic analysis method and semi-structured interviews with 15 women, including employed women and housewives in the age groups of 20 to 60 years used in this paper. Then interviews were analyzed by Max QDA 2018 software to extract the relationship pattern of couples in the division of domestic labor. The findings indicate the extraction of 2 main themes of non-participation in the division of domestic labor and participation in the division of domestic labor, seven sub-themes including stubborn femininity, hegemonic masculinity, favorable or unfavorable obvious challenge, economic triangulation, passive/hidden resistance, gradual participation of men. and equality in relations, and 228 concepts. stubborn femininity or hidden feminism theme refers to the power and dominance of women in the family. The second theme refers to self-sufficiency because of absence of a man at home, the man's imprisonment, the man's incapacity, or the death of a man are forced to take care of and breadwinner. In relationships based on persuasion, women accept more tasks because of some reasonable evaluation of men’s function during other areas. The economic triangulation of women is a form of the relationship between men and women when they are equal in strength and power. Women’s hidden and passive resistance gradually causes men to participate in household chores. In gradual participation, men learn to participate in household chores through socialization from the group of relatives and friends and the assignment of partial and incremental tasks from the woman to the man. The last theme of couples' relationships is based on the understanding or extensive participation of men and women in household chores which ends to equal involvement. Both men and women try to participate intellectually, emotionally, psychologically, and behaviorally and experience gender roles as much as possible. The variety of types introduced in the Iranian family shows the change and evolution in the traditional Iranian society and the agency and rethinking by women in gender roles and the division of conventional domestic work.However, regarding the causes and contexts of the formation of this ideal relationship between the studied couples, it is not possible to refer to foreign studies and the experiences of women in other countries, such as Eastern European countries and France, which are based on egalitarian ideas through the promotion of women's participation in the workforce or countries with family policies such as Norway and gender ideology, he said. Instead, the ethnic, cultural, and social diversity under the macro-policy strategies in the field of the Iranian family under Islamic thought and influenced by the characteristic of collectivism in the Iranian culture creates a different experience for Iranian women and can be a debatable issue in future studies. But what can be accepted without a doubt is that Iranian women are entering a process of rethinking the division of work and power in the family and the beginning of the process of redistributing family responsibilities.

The interplay between various industrial groups plays a crucial role in determining the optimal investment portfolio for investors. Identifying which group carries or accepts risk within a specific time period and performance range allows for necessary adjustments in the investor's portfolio to achieve maximum returns. In this regard, the present study examines the impact of banking, automotive, cement, basic metals, and petroleum products groups on a symmetric, positive, and negative performance basis from January 5, 2015, to February 17, 2023. The results of the study indicate that in recent years, the overall index of these mentioned groups has shown more negative performance than positive performance. Moreover, banks and basic metals have acted as guiding and risk-transferring entities to other groups. Abstract Purpose: Gyrate atrophy of the choroid and retina (GACR) is a rare congenital disorder and mutations in the ornithine aminotransferase (OAT) gene has been specified as the underlying cause. Patients show a high level of ornithine in body fluids which may be controlled by low protein diets. Pyridoxine (vitamin B6) supplementation may also be effective, however, most patients appear to be nonresponsive to this modality of treatment. Case Report: Here, we report a characterized case of a vitamin B6-responsive GACR who had a splicing mutation in the OAT gene. The GACR diagnosis was confirmed through the clinical features, imaging, biochemical findings, and whole-exome sequencing (WES) results. WES data revealed the splicing mutation in intron 4 of the OAT gene (NM_001322967: c.425-1G > A). Conclusion: Our knowledge about the diagnosis and treatment of GACR can be improved by identifying novel mutations in the OAT gene and accurate follow-up of the patients to determine how they respond to treatment.

Abstract Background High prostate eicosapentaenoic fatty acid (EPA) levels were associated with a significant reduction of upgrading to grade group (GG) ≥ 2 prostate cancer in men under active surveillance. We aimed to evaluate the effect of MAG-EPA long-chain omega-3 fatty acid dietary supplement on prostate cancer proliferation. Methods A phase II double-blind randomized placebo-controlled trial was conducted in 130 men diagnosed with GG ≥ 2 prostate cancer and undergoing radical prostatectomy between 2015–2017 (Clinicaltrials.gov: NCT02333435). Participants were randomized to receive 3 g daily of either MAG-EPA (n = 65) or placebo (n = 65) for 7 weeks (range 4–10) prior to radical prostatectomy. The primary outcome was the cancer proliferation index quantified by automated image analysis of tumor nuclear Ki-67 expression using standardized prostatectomy tissue microarrays. Additional planned outcomes at surgery are reported including plasma levels of 27 inflammatory cytokines and fatty acid profiles in circulating red blood cells membranes and prostate tissue. Results Cancer proliferation index measured by Ki-67 expression was not statistically different between the intervention (3.10%) and placebo (2.85%) groups (p = 0.64). In the per protocol analyses, the adjusted estimated effect of MAG-EPA was greater but remained non-significant. Secondary outcome was the changes in plasma levels of 27 cytokines, of which only IL-7 was higher in MAG-EPA group compared to placebo (p = 0.026). Men randomized to MAG-EPA prior to surgery had four-fold higher EPA levels in prostate tissue compared to those on placebo. Conclusions This MAG-EPA intervention did not affect the primary outcome of prostate cancer proliferation according to nuclear Ki-67 expression. More studies are needed to decipher the effects of long-chain omega-3 fatty acid dietary supplementation in men with prostate cancer.

Abstract Background and objectives Multimorbidity, defined as the presence of two or more long-term health conditions in an individual, is one of the most significant challenges facing health systems worldwide. This study aimed to identify determinants of classes of multimorbidity among older adults in Iran. Research Design and methods In a cross-sectional sample of older adults (aged ≥ 60 years) from the second stage of the Bushehr Elderly Health (BEH) program in southern Iran, latent class analysis (LCA) was used to identify patterns of multimorbidity. Multinomial logistic regression was conducted to investigate factors associated with each multimorbidity class, including age, gender, education, household income, physical activity, smoking status, and polypharmacy. Results In 2,426 study participants (mean age 69 years, 52% female), the overall prevalence of multimorbidity was 80.2%. Among those with multimorbidity, 3 latent classes were identified. These comprised: class 1, individuals with a low burden of multisystem disease (56.9%); class 2, individuals with predominantly cardiovascular-metabolic disorders (25.8%) and class 3, individuals with predominantly cognitive and metabolic disorders (17.1%). Compared with men, women were more likely to belong to class 2 (odds ratio [OR] 1.96, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.52–2.54) and class 3 (OR 4.52, 95% CI 3.22–6.35). Polypharmacy was associated with membership class 2 (OR 3.52, 95% CI: 2.65–4.68) and class 3 (OR 1.84, 95% CI 1.28–2.63). Smoking was associated with membership in class 3 (OR 1.44, 95% CI 1.01–2.08). Individuals with higher education levels (59%) and higher levels of physical activity (39%) were less likely to belong to class 3 (OR 0.41; 95% CI: 0.28–0.62) and to class 2 (OR 0.61; 95% CI: 0.38–0.97), respectively. Those at older age were less likely to belong to class 2 (OR 0.95). Discussion and implications A large proportion of older adults in Iran have multimorbidity. Female sex, polypharmacy, sedentary lifestyle, and poor education levels were associated with cardiovascular-metabolic multimorbidity and cognitive and metabolic multimorbidity. A greater understanding of the determinants of multimorbidity may lead to strategies to prevent its development.

Abstract This study aimed to investigate the biological activities of Lactobacillus gasseri SM 05 (L. gasseri) and Lacticaseibacillus casei subsp. casei PTCC 1608 (L. casei) in the black raspberry (Rubus dolichocarpus) juice (BRJ) environment, and also the anti-adhesion activity against Salmonella typhimurium (S. typhimurium) in fermented black raspberry juice (FBRJ). Results showed significant anti-adhesion activity in Caco-2 epithelial cells. In the anti-adhesion process, lactic acid bacteria (LAB) improve intestinal health by preventing the adhesion of pathogens. Adding LAB to BRJ produces metabolites with bacteriocin properties. Major findings of this research include improved intestinal health, improved antidiabetic properties, inhibition of degradation of amino acids, and increase in the nutritional value of foods that have been subjected to heat processing by preventing Maillard inhibition, and inhibition of oxidation of foodstuff by increased antioxidant activity of BRJ. Both species of Lactobacillus effectively controlled the growth of S. typhimurium during BRJ fermentation. Moreover, in all tests, as well as Maillard's and α-amylase inhibition, L. gasseri was more effective than L. casei. The protein C-type lectin is secreted by the secondary-stage larve of Toxocara canis (T. canis). Its antigenic characteristics have been the subject of research. The recombinant pET-32a (+) plasmid containing the 660 bp sequence of T. canis C-type lectin gene was successfully synthesized, cloned, and expressed in Escherichia coli (DE3+). Serum samples were collected from 56 pet owners. Forty-four samples were negative and twelve samples were positive which were performed with a commercial ELISA kit. The same samples were also tested using dot blot and Western blot analysis prepared with recombinant CTL antigen (rCTL). The expression was confirmed by Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS-PAGE) and Western blot. The study results revealed that two samples, which tested negative in the ELISA analysis, were found to be positive when using the recombinant C-type lectin (rCTL) antigen in both dot blot and Western blot analyses. The overall test results showed a high level of agreement between the three methods, with Kappa coefficients of 1 and 0.9 for the comparisons. This indicates the potential of using recombinant CTL antigen, to detect positive samples that may be missed by E-S Antigen. The recombinant rCTL demonstrated higher sensitivity than the excretory-secretory Antigens, indicating its potential for improved serodiagnosis of human toxocariasis. The study proposes that the rCTL could be further evaluated in supplementary studies to improve and develop the diagnostic kits for toxocariasis.

Objectives: This study aimed to assess the antibacterial activity of the crude venom of Pseudocerastes persicus against some Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria using an antimicrobial susceptibility test.Methods: The susceptibility of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Listeria monocytogenes, Bacillus subtilis, Salmonella typhimurium, and E. coli O157:H7 to the crude venom of Pseudocerastes persicus was investigated at a concentration of 100 µg/ml. Standard antibiotic disks were utilized as positive controls. Furthermore, the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against Staphylococcus aureus and MRSA was determined through the dilution method (160-1.25 µg/ml). These MIC values were compared with those of conventional drugs such as streptomycin (25 µg), tetracycline (30 µg), and neomycin (25 µg).Results: The crude venom exhibited significant antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, MRSA, Listeria monocytogenes, and E. coli O157:H7. It displayed moderate effects on Salmonella typhimurium but showed no significant impact on Bacillus subtilis. The MIC values against these bacteria ranged from 160 to 80 µg/ml.Conclusion: The venom from Pseudocerastes persicus demonstrates antibacterial properties and shows potential therapeutic value. Further investigations involving fractionation are necessary to fully explore its therapeutic potential.

Abstract Spiking networks, as the third generation of neural networks, are of great interest today due to their low power consumption in cognitive processes. This important characteristic has caused the hardware implementation techniques of spiking networks in the form of neuromorphic systems attract a lot of attention. For the first time, the focus is on the digital implementation based on CORDIC approximation of the Hindmarsh–Rose (HR) neuron so that the hardware implementation cost is lower than previous studies. If the digital design of a neuron is done efficient, the possibility of implementing a population of neurons is provided for the feasibility of low-consumption implementation of high-level cognitive processes in hardware, which is considered in this paper through edge detector, noise removal and image magnification spiking networks based on the proposed CORDIC_HR model. While using less hardware resources, the proposed HR neuron model follows the behavior of the original neuron model in the time domain with much less error than previous study. Also, the complex nonlinear behavior of the original and the proposed model of HR neuron through the bifurcation diagram, phase space and nullcline space analysis under different system parameters was investigated and the good follow-up of the proposed model was confirmed from the original model. In addition to the fact that the individual behavior of the original and the proposed neurons is the same, the functional and behavioral performance of the randomly connected neuronal population of original and proposed neuron model is equal. In general, the main contribution of the paper is in presenting an efficient hardware model, which consumes less hardware resources, follows the behavior of the original model with high accuracy, and has an acceptable performance in image processing applications such as noise removal and edge detection.

Clean water is the basic need of living organisms on the earth. Oil spills to free waters is one of the most important threats to living beings. It has been believed that using sorbents is the most effective method for this purpose. In this research, usage of tire rubber with improved hydrophobic properties is considered. For this purpose, carbon black nanoparticles (CBNs) were surface modified with vinyltrimthoxysilane (VTMS) at concentrations of 1, 5 and 10 by sol-gel method. Before, the CBNs were hydroxylated to increase silane grafting content. The surface modified was evaluated using XPS, FTIR, TGA, BET and FESEM analysis. Results showed a great change in the CBNs nature from hydrophilic to hydrophobic after silane modification that could help in more oil absorption and water repletion at the same time. In fact, the water contact angle (WCA) of the CBNs changed from 40 to 135°. The pure and silane grafted CBNs were added to the tire tread compound to prepare elastomeric nanocomposites as oil sorbent. The results showed that the modified nanocomposite had a higher reinforcement index than the samples contained pure and hydroxylated CBNs. The effects of CBNs on WCA, OCA and oil absorption capacity of the samples were also determined. It was found that silane modification a considerable increase in the WCA from 61.2° to 125.03° and a decrease in the oil contact angle (OCA) from 70.01° to 17.74°. Also, the oil absorption capacity of rubber enhanced from 0.55 to 1.95 g/g.

This study focuses on generating single-phase maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) using Echinophora platyloba DC. (E. platyloba) extract, followed by a silica coating. Subsequently, the γ-Fe2O3@SiO2 magnetic nanoparticles (γ-Fe2O3@SiO2 MNPs) are functionalized with the antiviral drug penciclovir (PNV). The objective of this research is to produce a dual-function therapeutic agent that exhibits both antiviral and anticancer properties. Nanoparticles were characterized using FT-IR, VSM, XRD, TEM, SEM-EDX, DLS, zeta potential measurements, and ultraviolet–visible analysis. The γ-Fe2O3@SiO2-PNV MNPs exhibited lower toxicity towards normal fibroblast cells compared to cancerous MCF-7 cells. Furthermore, loading PNV onto γ-Fe2O3@SiO2 MNPs resulted in a significant increase in the anticancer and biological effects of PNV. To assess the therapeutic potential of γ-Fe2O3@SiO2-PNV MNPs, their interactions with nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) were investigated through absorption and fluorescence studies. The experimental findings showed that γ-Fe2O3@SiO2-PNV MNPs had a strong propensity for binding to nucleic acids both through the groove and intercalate (partial intercalation), indicating their promising candidacy as a targeted and specific chemotherapeutic agent.

High uric acid is associated with gout, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease, and kidney disease. URAT1 (SLC22A12), originally discovered in mice as Rst, is generally considered a very selective uric acid transporter compared to other closely-related kidney uric acid transporters such as OAT1 (SLC22A6, NKT) and OAT3 (SLC22A8). While the role of URAT1 in regulating human uric acid is well-established, in recent studies the gene has been linked to redox regulation in flies as well as progression of renal cell carcinoma. We have now identified over twenty metabolites in the Urat1 knockout that are generally distinct from metabolites accumulating in the Oat1 and Oat3 knockout mice, with distinct molecular properties as revealed by chemoinformatics and machine learning analysis. These metabolites are involved in seemingly disparate aspects of cellular metabolism, including pyrimidine, fatty acid, and amino acid metabolism. However, through integrative systems metabolic analysis of the transcriptomic and metabolomic data using a human metabolic reconstruction to build metabolic genome-scale models (GEMs), the cellular response to loss of Urat1/Rst revealed compensatory processes related to reactive oxygen species handling and maintaining redox state balances via Vitamin C metabolism and cofactor charging reactions. These observations are consistent with the increasingly appreciated role of the antioxidant properties of uric acid. Collectively, the results highlight the role of Urat1/Rst as a transporter strongly tied to maintaining redox homeostasis, with implications for metabolic side effects from drugs that block its function.

BackgroundPancreatic adenocarcinoma (PDAC) persists as a malignancy with high morbidity and mortality that can benefit from new means to characterize and detect these tumors, such as radiogenomics. In order to address this gap in the literature, constructed a transcriptomic-CT radiogenomic (RG) map for PDAC.MethodsIn this Institutional Review Board approved study, a cohort of subjects (n = 50) with gene expression profile data paired with histopathologically confirmed resectable or borderline resectable PDAC were identified. Studies with pre-operative contrast-enhanced CT images were independently assessed for a set of 88 predefined imaging features. Microarray gene expression profiling was then carried out on the histopathologically confirmed pancreatic adenocarcinomas and gene networks were constructed using Weighted Gene Correlation Network Analysis (WCGNA) (n = 37). Data were analyzed with bioinformatics analyses, multivariate regression-based methods, and Kaplan-Meier survival analyses.ResultsSurvival analyses identified multiple features of interest that were significantly associated with overall survival, including Tumor Height (P = 0.014), Tumor Contour (P = 0.033), Tumor-stroma Interface (P = 0.014), and the Tumor Enhancement Ratio (P = 0.047). PurposeWe aimed to estimate the level and trend of plasma cholesterol and raised total cholesterol (TC > 200 mg/dl) prevalence at national and subnational level of Iran.MethodsNine national surveys and 27 studies, encompassing 3,505 unique points on over 500,000 adults, aged > 25 years with a report of laboratory measurement of TC were found. Age-spatio-temporal model and Gaussian Process Regression were used to estimate mean TC for each sex, 5-year age groups, and 31 provinces from 1990 to 2016.ResultsAt national level, age-standardized prevalence of TC > 200 mg/dL has decreased from 57·2%(53·3-61·1) to 22·4%(20·5-24·3) in women and 53·2%(49·1-57·3) to 18·0%(16·4-19·6) in men. TC distribution presented a condensation between 170-200 mg/dL. At subnational level, decreasing and converging patterns of raised TC prevalence were detected.ConclusionThe decrease in raised TC is likely the result of statin widespread use, food industry improvements, and the expanded primary health care.Supplementary informationThe online version contains supplementary material available at 10.1007/s40200-022-01052-w.

One of the critical environmental issues in the Chegeni area (Lorestan Province, western Iran) is the production of a large volume of limestone wastes during the quarrying operations. Releasing limestone wastes in the areas neighboring the quarries has caused visual damage to the environment, and adverse effects on the quality of the soil, running water, and groundwater used for agricultural and drinking water purposes. One solution to this issue can be recycling limestone wastes to produce building materials. In the present study, a comprehensive laboratory program is planned for the durability evaluation of the limestone wastes under harsh environments for their suitability as aggregate in concrete. For this purpose, five aging tests, including freeze-thawing (F-T), salt crystallization (SC), acid attack (AA), wetting-drying (WD), and heating-cooling (HC), were conducted on the limestone sample up to 60 cycles. After every 10 cycles, the physico-mechanical characteristics of the sample, including porosity (n), Brazilian tensile strength (BTS), point load index (PLI), and P-wave velocity (Vp) were determined. Moreover, the pores structure modification of the sample subjected to aging tests was examined through scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Data analyses revealed that the sample is highly vulnerable to the AA and SC processes but is durable against FT, WD, and HC actions. These results were in good agreement with the SEM data such that the sample exposed to AA and SC underwent more changes in their pore structure compared to FT, WD, and HC. Among the physico-mechanical characteristics, the Vp and PLI had the highest and the lowest accuracy, respectively, in the durability evaluation of the sample exposed to aging tests. Based on the data analysis, limestone wastes can be used as aggregate in concrete in environments with the possibility of FT, WD, and HC. However, this type of concrete is not suitable for conditions with occurrences of the AA and SC. Finally, in addition to reducing the environmentally harmful impacts of the study area, using limestone wastes as aggregate in the construction of concrete can also be a practical solution for sustainable development from an economic viewpoint. The results of the present study can be used for assessing limestone wastes produced in other areas of Iran and the world.

The current study aims to evaluate the potential role of extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) on functional status, physical disability, and pain in patients suffering from low back pain (LBP). ESWT may provide superior therapeutic outcomes in reducing pain and ameliorating the patient's functional status regarding LBP.

Pure copper is very soft, however, hardening the pure copper with most strengthening mechanisms leads to a significant reduction in electrical conductivity. Grain refinement is a better strengthening mechanism to maintain high enough electrical conductivity. Plastic deformation at room temperature followed by post-annealing is one of the best methods to achieve fine-grained metals and alloys. In this research, the high-temperature annealing behavior of cold-rolled electrolytic tough-pitch (ETP) copper sheets was studied. 90 % asymmetric cold rolling followed by high-temperature post-annealing at 673 K for 1, 2, 5, 10, 30, 60, and 120 min were applied on the copper. The microstructure was significantly changed with increasing annealing time from 1 to 2 min owing to full recrystallization. With increasing the annealing duration, the grain size is increased. The formation of equiaxed grains with a smaller size (∼9 μm) compared to the full-annealed (initial) sample (∼68 μm) is observed after the longest time of post-annealing (120 min) due to the pinning effect of Cu2O particles. The post-annealed copper sheets processed by asymmetric rolling (in this work) exhibited a more homogeneous microstructure through the thickness compared to the symmetric rolling due to more uniform stored strain energy. The results showed that the first deformed grains that undergo recrystallization during post-annealing are Goss-oriented grains. With an increase in the post-annealing time, the S and Copper components were eliminated and a strong Cube and P texture orientations were formed. Interestingly, after 1 min of post-annealing, the yield and tensile strength enhanced to 410.2 MPa and 418.6 MPa owing to the annealing hardening phenomenon. The hardness and strength reached a constant value after the post-annealing for 10 min and above. With increasing the post-annealing duration, the central area of fracture surfaces (consisting of ductile dimples) became larger and the outer region (consisting of flat surfaces and shear dimples) became smaller, showing a shift towards perfect ductile fracture. With the increase of post-annealing time from 1 min to 120 min, the electrical conductivity was increased from 77.6 to 97.5 %IACS. The presence of the Cube texture increased the electron mobility compared to the P orientation, by reducing the mean distance that they can travel without scatter. From the obtained results, it can be concluded that the asymmetric cold rolling followed by high-temperature post-annealing is capable of strength improvement and maintaining electrical conductivity in copper.

Background: Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC) stands as a formidable challenge within the field of oncology, despite considerable research endeavors. The advanced stages of this malignancy present formidable barriers to effective treatment and management. Objective: This review aims to explore the potential of exosomes in addressing the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges associated with RCC. Specifically, it investigates the role of exosomes as biomarkers and therapeutic vehicles in the context of RCC management. Methods: For this review article, a comprehensive literature search was conducted using databases such as PubMed, employing relevant keywords to identify research articles pertinent to the objectives of the review. Initially, 200 articles were identified, which underwent screening to remove duplicates and assess relevance based on titles and abstracts, followed by a detailed examination of full texts. From the selected articles, relevant data were extracted and synthesized to address the review's objectives. The conclusions were drawn based on a thorough analysis of the findings. The quality was ensured through independent review and resolution of discrepancies among multiple reviewers. Results: Exosomes demonstrate potential as diagnostic tools for early detection, prognosis, and treatment monitoring in RCC. Their ability to deliver various therapeutic agents, such as small interfering RNAs, lncRNAs, chemotherapeutic drugs, and immune-stimulating agents, allows for a personalized approach to RCC management. By leveraging exosome-based technologies, precision and efficacy in treatment strategies can be significantly enhanced. Conclusion: Despite the promising advancements enabled by exosomes in the management of RCC, further research is necessary to refine exosome-based technologies and validate their efficacy, safety, and long-term benefits through rigorous clinical trials. Embracing exosomes as integral components of RCC diagnosis and treatment represents a significant step towards improving patient outcomes and addressing the persistent challenges posed by this malignancy in the field of oncology.

Background: Leishmania is a vector-borne protozoon, which causes visceral, cutaneous and mucocutaneous leishmaniosis in human and animals. Monocyte-derived exosome vaccines can be used as prophylaxis and immunotherapy strategies. The aim of this study was to design a multiple-epitope candidate vaccine using leishmaniolysin (GP63) and rK39 proteins against Leishmania major and L. infantum for monocyte-derived exosome preparation. Methods: This study was carried out in Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran, 2023–2024. Effective immunodominant epitopes were selected from two antigenic proteins of GP63 and rK39 using various immunoinformatics and bioinformatics approaches. Vibrio cholerae β-subunit was used as an adjuvant to stimulate immune responses. Then, appropriate linkers were selected for the fusion of epitopes. The 3D model of candidate vaccine was predicted and validated. Results: This designed candidate vaccine could effectively be used as a prophylaxis strategy against leishmaniosis. Conclusion: A candidate vaccine was designed using bioinformatic and immunoinformatic studies with virtual acceptable quality; however, effectiveness of this vaccine should be verified through further in-vitro and in-vivo studies.
