The double motif of the road (in every form or shape) and of those who tread it is omnipresent in Nonnus of Panopolis’ Paraphrasis nd clearly essential to the understanding of the poem. It gives rhythm to the narration through the numerous movements; it plays a big part in the definition of the interactions between narrative agents – who, for the most part, are characterized depending on whether they follow and share the road opened by and embodied in Jesus or whether they move away from, even oppose it. Last but not least, the motif is also crucial from a poetical point of view since it is one of the places where Nonnus’ lexical diversity and poetic inventiveness are the most evident, giving to the banal meta-poetical image of the road as a symbol of poetry a newbreath. Thus, the hexametric rewriting of the evangelic prose becomes a road in itself, both a new poetical channel for the sacred word which must travel and a new exegetical path.

To date, no study has described the microbiological profile of surgical site infections (SSIs) after spine surgery in a tropical environment. The main objective of this study is to describe the microbiology and the risk factors of SSI after spinal surgery in a tropical climate. Our hypothesis is that the microbiology of SSIs in tropical areas is different to what is mainly described in temperate countries. As a consequence, the recommendation for antibiotic prophylaxis administered in the operative room, which mainly relays on the literature, might not be adequate in such countries. We included 323 consecutive patients who underwent a spinal intervention between 2017 and 2019, with a 2-year minimum follow-up. Objective ISO criteria were established in accordance with the criteria accepted by the Center of Disease Control in Atlanta. The identification of risk factors for SSI was carried out by uni- and multivariate analysis with a significance threshold of P < 0.05. The incidence of SSI was 7.7%. A total of 54.8% were in favor of a predominantly digestive origin of germs with an average of 1.68 bacteria found by ISO. Inadequate antibiotic prophylaxis was found in 54.8%. Age and body mass index were found to be independent risk factors for SSI. We report here an unusual microbiological profile of SSI with a predominance of gram-negative bacteria and a low proportion of Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis.

In recent years, the number of Internet of Things (IoT) devices/sensors has increased to a great extent. IoT is expected to connect billions of devices and humans in order to promote promising advantages. To support the computational demand of real time latency sensitive applications of largely geo-distributed IoT devices/sensors, a new computing paradigm named “Fog computing” has been introduced. Generally, Fog computing resides closer to the IoT devices/sensors and extends the Cloud based computing, storage and networking facilities. A fog node receives a large number of tasks that need to be executed before their deadline, therefore, task scheduling in Fog computing systems has become an important subject for research.In this paper, we propose new task scheduling algorithms called RTFIFO, MinJF and MinRes in order to optimize the number of tasks rejected by a fog node. Extensive simulations show that the proposed algorithms have better performance than some existing task scheduling approaches.

This study aimed to estimate the total phenolic and flavonoid contents and to evaluate the antioxidant activity of the Hydro-methanolic from Saccocalyx satureioides Coss and Dur aerial part. Total polyphenols contents were determined using Folin-Ciocalteu’s reagent. The flavonoids were estimated using the method of Aluminum chloride (AlCl3). The antioxidant capacity was evaluated using two in vitro models (the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and reducing power). Total phenolic and flavonoid content in the extract were 171.34 ±1.43 mg Gallic acid equivalent/g of dry extract (GAE/g) and 18.6 ± 0.46 mg Quercetin equivalent / g of dry extract (QE/g), respectively. The methanol extract has an important capacity to scavenge the free radical DPPH with an IC50 of 0.03 ± 0. 0024 mg/ml. In addition, the plant extract exhibited high reducing power with an IC50 of 0.54 ± 0.00625 mg/ml. The results of the present study may prove that the medicinal plants are a good resource of natural antioxidants. Keywords: Antioxidant activity, Saccocalyx satureioides, polyphenols, flavonoids.

Phytotherapy has known a great evolution all the world and some medicinal plants are important remedies of some diseases. Ammoides atlantica is one of the medicinal plants used in folk medicine. This study aims to estimate the total phenolics and flavonoids contents then to investigate both in vitro antioxidant activity models of aqueous extract (AqE) from Ammoides atlantica. Total polyphenol contents were determined using Folin Ciocalteu's reagent; flavonoids were quantified employing the AlCl3 Method. The in vitro antioxidant property was assessed by DPPH-scavenging radicals and lipid peroxidation assays. The results revealed that Ammoides atlantica aqueous extract presented a high total phenolic and flavonoid contents with values of 85.56±4.71 µg GAE (gallic acid equivalent)/mg and 40.55±4.09 µg QE (quercitin equivalent)/mg dry extract, respectively. This extract shows a good DPPH radical scavenging and β-carotene bleaching activities with an IC50 of 107.48±5.9 µg/mL and 130.17±5.52 µg/mL, respectively. This study indicates that the aqueous extract from Ammoides atlantica has potent antioxidant effects and may prove to be of latent health benefit as well as supplementary sources for natural antioxidants drugs. Background Acquired haemophilia (AH) is a rare bleeding disorder with significant morbidity and mortality. Most patients initially present to physicians without experience of the disease, delaying diagnosis and potentially worsening outcomes. Existing guidance in AH is limited to clinical opinion of few experts and does not address monitoring bleeds in specific anatomical locations. Aim Derive consensus from a large sample of experts around the world in monitoring bleeding patients with AH. Methods Using the Delphi methodology, a structured survey, designed to derive consensus on how to monitor bleeding patients with AH, was developed by a steering committee for completion by a group of haematologists with an interest in AH. Consensus was defined as ≥75% agreement with a given survey statement. After three rounds of survey refinement, a final list of consensus statements was compiled. Results Thirty-six global specialists in AH participated. The participants spanned 20 countries and had treated a median of 12.0 (range, 1-50) patients with AH within the preceding 5 years. Consensus was achieved in all items after three survey rounds. In addition to statements on general management of bleeding patients, consensus statements in the following areas were presented: urinary tract, gastrointestinal tract, muscles, skin, joints, nose, pharynx, mouth, intracranial and postpartum. Conclusions Here, we present consensus statements derived from a broad sample of global specialists to address monitoring of location-specific bleeds and evaluating efficacy of bleeding treatment in patients with AH. These statements could be applied in practice by treating physicians and validated by individual population surveys.

Introduction Optimizing hemophilia care remains challenging in developing countries. Burden-of-disease studies are important to develop strategies for improving hemophilia care. Aim The HAEMOcare study evaluated the factors contributing to hemophilia-related orthopedic disease burden in developing countries. Methods HAEMOcare was a noninterventional, cross-sectional, epidemiological study conducted in Algeria, India, Morocco, Oman, and South Africa. Male patients with severe hemophilia (N = 282) aged ≥6 years, without or with inhibitors, being treated on-demand for bleeding were included. Hemophilia-related orthopedic clinical and functional status was assessed using the Hemophilia Joint Health Score (HJHS), radiological status with the Pettersson Score, and quality of life with the EuroQol five-dimension questionnaire (EQ-5D-3L). Direct and indirect economic costs of hemophilia care were also calculated. Results Patients (mean [standard deviation, SD] age: 20.8 [10.6] years) experienced a mean annualized bleeding rate of 25.8. Overall mean (SD) HJHS and Pettersson score were 17.9 (12.8) and 15.0 (13.5), respectively; scores were similar between patients without or with inhibitors (p = 0.21 and 0.76, respectively). Approximately 70% of adults reported problems relating to pain/discomfort and mobility parameters in the EQ-5D-3L. Mean distance to a hemophilia treatment center (HTC) was 79.4 km. As expected, total costs of hemophilia were statistically significantly higher in patients with inhibitors versus without inhibitors (p = 0.002). Conclusion Inadequate access to HTCs and expert care, along with high bleeding rates, led to equivalent hemophilia-related orthopedic morbidity between hemophilia patients without and with inhibitors. HAEMOcare documented the economic and disease burdens associated with suboptimal hemophilia care in developing countries.

A study was conducted from May 2008 to April 2009 to monitor monthly the tick infestation of cattle in two farms in Constantine region (subhumid area of Algeria), located at 500 and 1000 m of altitude, respectively. Out of forty monitored cattle (20 per farm), 2031 ticks were collected from different anatomical sites (perineum, udder, scrotum, ears, among others). Seven tick species from four genera were identified: Rhipicephalus bursa (48.5%), ticks of R. sanguineus group (26.6%), Hyalomma marginatum (11%), Haemaphysalis punctata (5.7%), Hy. lusitanicum (3.9%), Hy. scupense (2.7%), and Ixodes ricinus (1.5%). The predominance of R. bursa on the one hand and the absence of Hy. scupense at 1000 m altitude on the other hand were noted. Furthermore, the influences of altitude and age were analyzed and tick location on the animals was recorded. The study of seasonal infestation dynamics showed that vector control, in case of heavy infestations, should be mainly applied during the warm period (May to August), corresponding to the peak of abundance of R. bursa and H. scupense, the main species responsible for the transmission of piroplasmoses in cattle, including babesioses and tropical theileriosis.

Introduction Challenges with personalised prophylaxis in haemophilia remain, including designing unique dosing schedules that require continual adjustments and monitoring using complex sampling procedures. Aim To assess long-term efficacy and pharmacokinetic outcomes with fixed-dose N8-GP prophylaxis. Methods Descriptive analyses were performed on data from the pathfinder 2 and pathfinder 5 trials of patients with severe haemophilia A. Bleed frequency and reoccurrence were assessed in relation to several clinical criteria of interest. Bleed risk relative to time since last dose was assessed using calculated annualised bleeding rate (ABR). Long-term ABR and mean factor VIII (FVIII) trough levels were assessed in patients who received consistent N8-GP prophylaxis every 4 days (Q4D). Results During pathfinder 2, 117/136 patients with study-drug exposure of ≥600 days experienced bleeding episodes; 8.6% of bleeds were reoccurring bleeds; bleed reoccurrence decreased over time. For patients who received consistent Q4D prophylaxis across the trial (n = 61), mean ABR decreased from 3.5 bleeds/year (Year 1) to 1.6 bleeds/year (Year 6); mean FVIII trough levels stabilised at approximately 5% (Year 6). Across patients who received prophylaxis at some point during pathfinder 2 (n = 177), 125/126 (99%) reoccurring bleeds were joint bleeds. For patients receiving Q4D prophylaxis, bleeding risk generally increased as the time since the last prophylaxis dose increased. A similar reduction in ABR and stabilisation of trough level was observed in pathfinder 5. Conclusion Long-term exposure (> 5 years) to fixed-dose N8-GP prophylaxis resulted in a protective haemostatic effect, with reduction in bleed frequency and reoccurrence, and stabilisation of FVIII trough level over time.

In the present work, the density functional theory (DFT) was performed for the investigation of the structural, electronic and optical properties of the Zn 1-x Cd x Se y Te 1-y quaternary alloys using the full potential linearized augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) method. For the calculations of the structural properties we have used the Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof generalized gradient approximation (GGA-PBEsol). On other hand, the electronic properties have been computed within the local density approximation (LDA) in adding to the Tran-Blaha modified Becker-Johnson (TB-mBJ) approach. Our results indicate that the lattice constant, as well as the bulk modulus and the energy gap for the Zn 1-x Cd x Se y Te 1-y quaternary show almost linear variations on the concentration x (0.125≤x≤0.875). In addition, the simulated band structures for the Zn 1-x Cd x Se y Te 1-y quaternary exhibits a direct-gap for all concentrations. Moreover, low bowing parameters are observed. Also, some interesting optical properties such as dielectric constant, refractive index, extinction coefficient, absorption coefficient and reflectivity have been calculated by using the TB-mBJ method. The results of our computations shows that the Zn 1-x Cd x Se y Te 1-y quaternary alloy is a promissing candidate for optoelectronic applications. It is noteworthy that the present work is the first theoretical study of the quaternary of interest using the FP-LAPW calculations.

The urgent need for a rapid and reliable Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) neutralising antibody detection test compatible with routine clinical laboratory testing currently exists. This is necessary to provide accurate estimates of immunity and to monitor vaccine effectiveness. Utilising Biochip Array Technology (BAT), the Randox SARS-CoV-2 Biochip proxy virus neutralisation test (pVNT) has been developed. Immobilising SARS-CoV-2 Spike RBD on the Biochip surface, innovative assay design enables direct sample addition to the Biochip well without the need for off-board sample pre-incubation step. Results are reported within 1.5 hours and testing is carried out without the prerequisite of live virus or biosafety level 3 (BSL3) laboratory facilities. In this study, assay validation is performed using recombinant antibodies and clinical samples and an excellent correlation against conventional virus neutralisation methods is established (100% clinical specificity and 98% clinical sensitivity). Serial dilution of samples with high neutralising antibody levels demonstrate end-point sample dilutions comparable with those obtained using the SARS-CoV-2 microneutralisation test. Species independent neutralising antibody detection capacity of the SARS-CoV-2 Biochip pVNT is also demonstrated. The findings of this study exemplify the utility of the SARS-CoV-2 Biochip pVNT as a robust and reliable method for the accurate measurement of neutralising antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 and the availability of this test can now positively impact current testing deficiencies in this area.

The present work reports the Computational Fluid Dynamics simulation and analysis of the heat transfer inside a refrigerated truck trailer equipped with three eutectic plates and fans. The numerical model solves the conjugated heat transfer inside the trailer in 2D using the �� −�� Shear Stress Transport (SST) turbulence model. It has been already favorably validated against the numerical and experimental data of Lafaye de Micheaux el al. (2015) by Croquer et al. (2019). These simulations are used to improve the configuration of the refrigeration system with the eutectic plates as well as to investigate the feasibility of the eutectic plates for the transport of frozen food products under different operating loads and transport temperature requirements. Three eutectic plates having an optimal inter-plate distance of 6 cm to maximize the air flow between the plates (Croquer et al., 2019) are either placed in series on the roof of the trailer or vertically at its back. For both configurations, fans are blowing the air from the eutectic plates to the inside of the trailer and modeled by adding a source term into the momentum equations. During the door opening period, the configuration with the plates placed on the roof of the trailer without the cargo has noticeably lower area-averaged temperature inside the trailer than the configuration with the plates placed on the back of the trailer due to the presence of the circulation zones and the cold plates located near the doorway. However, introduction of the cargo into the simulations eliminates the formation of the circulation zones that prevents the infiltration of the atmospheric air. Also, the configuration with the plates placed on the roof of the trailer allows the atmospheric air to infiltrate earlier, therefore resulting in an overall higher temperature observed in the cargo.
