Instructional Boundary Management is an area of school leadership comprising activities that simultaneously involve instructional leadership and boundary management. This study explores principals' Instructional Boundary Management during COVID-19. Data collection consisted of semi-structured interviews with a diverse sample of 33 Israeli elementary school principals. Data analysis indicated that principals felt an increasing need to carry out most Instructional Boundary Management activities during COVID-19. The findings suggest that COVID-19 influenced principals' needs through the following three factors: the challenges that COVID-19 posed to teachers, the challenges that COVID-19 posed to students and parents, and the transition from face-to-face instruction to distance learning. These findings reveal the mechanisms through which COVID-19 affected Instructional Boundary Management activities, explaining how and why COVID-19 has led to a greater need for principals' Instructional Boundary Management.

The instructional leadership approach requires school principals to give top priority to the continuous improvement of teaching quality and academic outcomes. This study explored how principals of elementary schools in Israel fulfilled their instructional leadership role during COVID-19. Data collection comprised semi-structured interviews with a diverse sample of 36 principals. Data analysis identified three different theories of action. In this study, a theory of action is the conscious or unconscious set of assumptions that explain how principals act professionally in a given situation. According to the first theory of action, "moratorium," principals temporarily abandoned instructional leadership. According to the second theory of action, "adaptation," principals changed instructional leadership to suit the specific conditions of COVID-19. According to the third theory of action, "determination," principals uncompromisingly continued to demonstrate instructional leadership. These findings expand the available knowledge on how school leaders respond and what forms of school leadership practice emerged during COVID-19.

While teacher-to-teacher knowledge-sharing is promising for professional learning and improving teaching quality, it lacks integration and timeliness in schools because teachers are usually weak at knowledge-sharing. Despite this weakness, principals as knowledge-sharing leaders can make a difference. There is still limited research about this promising leadership role. One possible reason might be the deficiency of a focussed assessing scale. This study was conducted to develop and validate a scale in Tehran, Iran. To this end, four consecutive sub-studies, including inductive item-pool generation, deductive item-pool generation, content validation, and construct validation, were conducted, and the Knowledge-Sharing Leadership Scale was introduced consequently. The KSLS comprised five dimensions: role-modelling, trust-building, setting expectations, creating a knowledge-sharing-driven environment, and encouraging teachers. It is expected that the KSLS could serve as a practical means for promoting relevant research and practice. Directions for future research and implications are discussed.

To afford school middle leaders meaningful opportunities to initiate change, we must provide them with the space and flexibility to engage with agentic and creative responses to policy and practice. Whilst we argue that the tensions identified in Bennett's seminal reviews persist, there may, nonetheless, be opportunities for school middle leaders to creatively influence educational agendas. Through engaging in a critical interpretative synthesis of school middle leadership literature, we consider how the subjectivities of such leaders are discursively constructed. We argue that a culture of performativity has diminished opportunities for middle leaders in English schools to develop a strong sense of agency, educational ideology and authentic professional responsibility. However, a current governmental focus on subject knowledge may have opened spaces for a collegial agency, despite the prevailing neo-conservative policy discourse. We thus identify, the potential for movement beyond a discursive position to one where school middle leaders take greater responsibility for developing practice to align more closely with their educational values. Utilising a dialogic theoretical perspective we examine how middle leadership in English schools is currently practiced and mediated in relation to the changing political landscape, and suggest that seemingly contradictory positions provide a fruitful site for new research.

Despite the uptick in awareness of racial and other sociocultural diversity owing to recent social movements particularly in the United States but also in many countries in Europe, deep understanding of identity and bias is lacking and remedies for policy and practice inequities in the education sector remain. Steadily increasing racial and linguistic heterogeneity demands better understanding on the part of school leaders--and the larger school staff--to redress inequity and improve schooling for all students. This study utilized in-depth interviews to gather secondary school leaders' perspectives on, and level of engagement with, diversity in Fribourg, Switzerland. Findings revealed that school leaders are, overall, inadequately prepared to tackle difficult, identity-charged conversations or to confront their own positionality and subjectivity vis-à-vis newcomer students. Recommendations are made for aspiring and current school leaders to become active by practicing diversity-engaged leadership.

This study aims to develop and validate the Principal Competency Inventory (PCI), an instrument used to assess a principal's leadership competencies that promote student learning in South Korea. An extensive review of prior work was conducted to understand the theoretical foundation related to school leadership and the competency construct of the PCI derived from the Behavioural Event Interview of principals. Then, the psychometric procedures used in developing and validating the PCI were followed. The significance of this study and its practical implications for the use of this new instrument was discussed. From a theoretical and practical standpoint, this study contributes to the school leadership field by describing development and validation procedures, identifying where evidence of the reliable assessment instrument is lacking, and utilising the advantage of the competency-based framework. Also, the analysis of this study provides international perspectives about school leadership practices, thus supplementing the prior Western-focused literature in this field. In addition, this study offers useful information for policymakers and principal leadership development program designers who want to assess and evaluate principal leadership competency.

In the Republic of Ireland, school leadership policy adopts a distributed leadership model nationally. Given that this is a relatively recent policy development, research conducted on distributed leadership to date has highlighted that there are particular challenges for school leaders in enacting this model in practice and, more significantly, that principals have signalled their need for further leadership development in its enactment. In this study, we contribute to the growing national research on this leadership model. We chart the development of this policy and, drawing on primary school principals' perspectives, also explore opportunities and challenges in this context at school and system levels, illustrated richly through two participant vignettes and more generally in the discussion. We argue that constructive-developmental theory, a theory that acknowledges developmental diversity and richly theorises professional growth and development, offers school and system leaders a nuanced, differentiated, and transformative approach through which leadership development activities are led at school and system levels can support principals to enact distributed leadership in practice. We conclude by describing developmental supports for leaders and considerations for system leaders and policymakers, which are also likely to be of interest beyond the Irish context given the rise of distributed leadership internationally.

Ghana's efforts to end all forms of discrimination against women and ensure gender equity in school leadership appointments require a change in peoples' mindsets, habits and cultural beliefs. It is envisaged that evidence on the performance of the few women who have been appointed into leadership positions against their male counterparts would be quite instrumental in the change process. This study, therefore, assessed whether statistically significant differences exist in the extent to which male and female headteachers in two selected educational districts in Ghana enact instructional leadership practices in their schools. Utilizing a descriptive survey design and employing the teacher version of the principal instructional management rating scale, 263 teachers participated in the study. Findings from the study showed that there were no significant differences between male and female headteachers in none of the ten instructional leadership functions explored in the study. This meant that male headteachers in the selected educational districts did not significantly demonstrate any superior instructional leadership practices compared to their female counterparts. The study recommends that educational policymakers in Ghana initiate pragmatic policies to increase women's representation and participation in school leadership roles.

To better understand the current challenges surrounding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in K-12 schools, a team of researchers (Raffaella Borasi, David E. Miller, Patricia Vaughan-Brogan, Karen DeAngelis, Yu Jung Han, and Sharon Mason) interviewed 36 western New York school leaders in late 2023. Their concerns moved beyond potential cheating, as they instead identified four main priorities: receiving guidance to inform their decisions about AI, empowering all stakeholders to better understand AI and its implications, capitalizing on AI to support the work of teachers and staff, and enabling better technology solutions. These should inform future interventions aiming at leveraging AI in K-12 education.

Building on the literature of student leadership development, Natalie Sew, Adrianne Billingham Bock, and Danielle Allen share an approach to civic education: Deeper Civic Learning. This approach offers students the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills, and key civic dispositions needed to engage in their communities and develop their leadership capacities. This article shares insights from the authors' work co-designing an 8th-grade civics curriculum with Massachusetts educators. It highlights student perspectives on their experiences with the curriculum through extended stories of the application of civic skills and dispositions in their lives.

Thomas J. Capretta, Jingyang (Max) Zhang, Eric M. Anderman, and Barbara J. Boone revisit Joyce Epstein's 1995 Kappan article on overlapping spheres of influence and family-school partnerships. They highlight one idea from the article that has been largely overlooked -- the role of student voice and leadership. To refocus researchers' and practitioners' attention to the role of students in family and community partnership, they synthesize existing research to elaborate on Epstein's original models and ideas. They provide three levels of research-based, practical recommendations for districts and schools to elevate student roles and cultivate student leadership in family-school engagement efforts. Finally, they illustrate what these practices look like in schools using an Ohio school district as an example.

Purpose: Increasingly, school systems are forming improvement networks and using continuous improvement (CI) to realize more ambitious and equitable instruction. Yet networks reside in environments that place formidable demands on school leaders and house multiple, and sometimes contradictory, beliefs about educational goals and practices. Leveraging a framework derived from institutional logics, we investigate how three elementary school principals drew on competing theories, frames, and narratives to interpret and enact CI routines as part of a school turnaround network. Research Methods/Approach: Drawing on data from individual and focus-group interviews from a 3-year research project, we conducted a comparative case-study analysis to understand how three school leaders led CI efforts intended to improve mathematics instruction and student learning. Our qualitative findings emerge from multiple cycles of interview coding to describe how school leaders drew on different theories, frames, and narratives to enact CI. Findings: Despite access to common tools and routines, each principal identified markedly different types of educational problems and enacted substantively different solutions. The variable approaches corresponded to divergent "field-level logics" defined by fundamentally different beliefs about teaching and learning, as well as alternative ways of managing the demands of accountability, academic rigor, and community needs. Implications: A shared instructional infrastructure and networked improvement approach can help align CI efforts in large districts, but for district-based improvement networks to support coherent and sustainable advances to teaching and learning, leaders must cultivate a shared approach to managing the myriad demands of contemporary educational environments that often feature multiple and competing institutional logics.

Purpose: Research shows that school leadership and working conditions strongly predict teacher turnover, but less empirical work has explored how school leaders grapple with this aspect of their work. This article investigates how school leaders across diverse geographic and institutional contexts understand human capital challenges and construct approaches to improve adult culture and teacher retention. Research Methods/Approach: This cross-case analysis includes interviews with 23 school leaders from four different public school systems (charter, suburban, rural, urban). Using both inductive and deductive coding approaches, we analyze how school leaders understand and approach human capital challenges and the logics they invoke in doing so. Findings: Perceiving teacher supply and dismissal challenges as outside of their control, leaders primarily focused on managing the adult culture of their schools to improve teacher retention. This focus raised additional challenges for school leaders around generating teacher buy-in and attending to teacher well-being. Whereas school leaders across different contexts named similar strategies for generating teacher buy-in around school or system-wide goals, some leaders framed focusing on teacher well-being as being in tension with their responsibilities to student outcomes. Implications: This work contributes to the literature on school leadership and teacher retention, which highlights school leadership as a point of intervention for stemming teacher attrition. Understanding how school leaders locate challenges, construct priorities, and manage the human capital side of their work is paramount to improving school leader preparation and support, teacher retention, and student outcomes.

Successful implementation of school-wide interventions (i.e., delivered to all students by a wide array of school personnel) is key to promoting students' academic achievement and psychosocial development. Yet, the implementation of school-wide interventions is complex and can be psychologically taxing for implementing personnel. If evidence-based practice and program (EBP) implementation goes unsupported, implementation challenges might result in chronic stress among school personnel that leads to burnout. While generally effective leadership tends to decrease educator burnout, implementation-specific leadership may also decrease burnout through its strategic supports for EBP implementation. A series of linear regression and path models were used to examine the concurrent association between transformational (e.g., general) and implementation (e.g., strategic) leadership and burnout and its component parts (i.e., emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, personal accomplishment). In a sample of 338 school personnel, we found transformational and implementation leadership were each significantly associated with decreased burnout. However, transformational leadership was not significantly associated with any of the three burnout components, whereas implementation leadership was significantly associated with increased personal accomplishment. These results suggest both general and strategic forms of leadership are key supports for school personnel burnout and as such, leaders may benefit from training to improve each. Additional implications for schools and future directions to understand how best to support school personnel are discussed.

Background/Context: While trans adults in the U.S. and Canada report higher levels of discrimination and harassment than cisgender adults, but the existing literature lacks comprehensive descriptions of trans school workers' believes about what would improve working conditions, satisfaction, and safety. Purpose: We interrogate systemic forces shaping PK-12 trans educators' workplace experiences through two research questions: (1) What educational reforms did trans PK-12 workers believe would improve working conditions? (2) Did greater policy, organizational, and leadership support contribute to improved job satisfaction and safety? Research Design: The critical quantitative study employed cross-sectional, online survey data from 341 trans school workers in Canada and the United States. We used frequencies to describe respondents' rankings of reforms and logistic regression analysis to examine whether respondents' reports of greater policy protections, organizational supports, and affirming leadership contributed to greater workplace safety and satisfaction. Conclusions/Recommendations: Trans workers reporting safer, more satisfactory school workplaces also indicate their workplaces have multiple tools across socioecological systems to disrupt cisnormativity. Policy protections topped workers' rankings of beneficial reforms, but logistic regression analysis revealed policies mitigated only the most egregious physical safety concerns. Greater organizational supports and affirming leaders consistently contribute to satisfaction and safety. Policies, organizational practices, and leadership approaches working in tandem contribute to safe, satisfying workplaces for PK-12 trans school employees.

Instructional leaders require timely and predictive data to guide post-pandemic systemic changes. We investigated the predictability of an observational instrument, the Rigor Appraisal, and its association with achievement and other school effectiveness measures in a sample of 53 schools in Illinois. We found that increases in the Rigor Appraisal had a small to moderate and statistically significant association with achievement, a positive and moderate statistically significant association with attendance, a negative relationship between referrals and suspensions, and a positive and moderate statistically significant association with the 5Essentials. Additionally, the implementation of academic teaming was associated with greater achievement in schools with more low-income students. We also found that leaders who conducted non-evaluative instructional walks experienced a positive and statistically significant impact on achievement. As such, the Rigor Appraisal merits further study in different contexts, as it shows promise as a leading indicator that can be used for the continuous improvement of instructional systems.

This study aimed to determine the relationship between narcissism and team cohesion of transformational leadership and individual sports athletes interactions. In particular, individual sports can present a model to verify the level of perception of team cohesion according to the type of record sports and martial arts sports. Transformational leadership, narcissism, and team cohesion were measured among 225 college athletes. SPSS 24.0, Amos 24.0, PROCESS Macro programs (Model No. 5) were used for data analysis. The analysis includes frequency analysis, Cronbach's alpha values, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), Pearson's correlation, and moderating effect. Transformational leadership significantly positively affected team cohesion and narcissism. Non-narcissism also significantly positively affected team cohesion. The interaction between transformational leadership and individual athletes was significantly higher for martial arts sports. Team cohesion was also important for athletes in individual sports, thus expanding the boundaries of transformational leadership theory. To cultivate a sports team (organization), strategic sports management will be necessary to enhance team cohesion.

With the gradual improvement of open teacher selection mechanisms, the comparison of traditionally and alternatively certified teachers has become one of the international focuses in teacher research. Current studies have compared teachers of different certification pathways from multidimensional perspectives; however, no study has yet compared the differences in curriculum leadership between the two types of teachers. Teacher curriculum leadership is the ability of teachers to collaborate with stakeholders in the curriculum area to promote curriculum optimization and the development of students and teachers, and it includes three dimensions: teachers' curriculum leadership views, practices and identity. This study conducted a comparative analysis of the curriculum leadership of traditionally and alternatively certified teachers based on data from 9,068 teachers of 20 provinces in China. Independent samples t-test and multiple linear regression analysis revealed no significant differences between traditionally and alternatively certified teachers on the overall level of curriculum leadership and the three sub-dimensions of curriculum leadership views, practices, and identity. Theoretically, it provides new evidence for the debate about whether there are differences between the two types of teachers by further corroborating the conclusion that there is no significant difference in the educational effectiveness of traditionally and alternatively certified teachers. Practically, it justifies the rationality of an open teacher selection mechanism and points the way to further reforms in university teacher education.

Educational process inequality is an important branch of higher education fairness and the role difference of student leaders is one of the important phenomena of educational process inequality. Based on the employment administrative data of 2018 college graduates in a province in central China, this paper investigates the relationship between family background factors and college students serving as student cadres by using Multiple Logit Regression. The results show that the father's work unit and the father's educational level have a significant impact on college students as student leaders. The students whose father works in a unit within the system and whose father has a college degree or above were more likely to be student cadres. However, the poor students with disadvantaged family economic resources are more likely to serve as student leaders, which is contrary to the expected conclusion. Scholastic attainment can effectively adjust the positive influence of family background factors on the experience of student cadres and promote the relative equality of education process.

The use of "participatory research" and "participation" to promote the empowerment of the poor and marginalised began in the 1970s and gained momentum in the early 1980s. The approach builds on the "learning for change" paradigm in which everyday experience is the basis for developing agency, and committing to and taking action to create change, both individually and collectively. The paradigm has been used over decades, and in several contexts (e.g. women's literacy and political leadership, work health and safety, access to and control over natural resources, prevention of sexual harassment and violence against women, social accountability and participatory monitoring, access to basic services, and climate adaptation and resilience). In this research note, some of these contexts -- work health and safety, women's political leadership, the urban poor and gender-based violence -- are used as practical exemplars of work conducted by the non-profit research and training organisation Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA) to support poor, excluded and marginalised communities. The experiences shared in this research note bear witness to the power of popular knowledge and the inclusion of marginalised voices for transformatory, people-centric development.

Purpose: The purpose of this exploratory case study was to investigate the role of School Leaders (SLs) in building Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) in schools, as well as to expand a literature-driven PLC model within the Pakistani context. Design/methodology/approach: The study involved the purposive selection of two schools affiliated with a university. The sample comprised one school leader, one academic coordinator and five teachers from each school, altogether 14 participants. The participants shared similar demographic characteristics. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect data, which were analysed thematically. Findings: The findings of the study revealed that both schools have created PLCs to some extent and that school goals and culture were contributing factors in building these communities. Additionally, the SLs played a key role in promoting PLCs by encouraging teacher collaboration. The study concludes that SLs have the potential to strategize their actions to foster positive professional relations among teachers and ensure their well-being. Research limitations/implications: The study contributes to the literature on professional communities in Pakistan by validating a literature-driven PLC model. The model emphasizes collaboration among teachers, which can be facilitated by SLs. As such, the study implicates SLs in prioritizing the professional development of teachers to enhance student learning and achieve school success. Originality/value: This study is unique in expanding a literature-driven PLC model within the Pakistani context, with a focus on teacher collaboration as facilitated by SLs. The model has the potential for replication in other contexts and can serve as a useful tool for future research.

This paper explores the thesis of de-globalisation in relation to international education. Through interrogating accounts of international school leadership during the COVID-19 crisis, the tension between international expectations and localised realities is charted, with four central tenets of internationalism undermined by the pandemic experience. It is argued that the COVID-19 crisis, ostensibly a single global event, resulted in the fractalisation of international education; the conceptualisation of unified internationalism was undermined by the inherently localised material effects of the pandemic. In place of an internationalism that is unified, transcendent, inclusive and connected, international school leaders' accounts of leading through the pandemic focused on their sense that their schools were fractured, rooted, privileged and isolated. It is suggested that this international crisis demonstrates the precarious nature of the respatialising of the global that is intrinsic to international schooling.

Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the school principal's role in promoting physical activity for inactive children in school settings. Design: Exploratory qualitative interview study. Setting: The study was conducted in seven elementary schools in central Sweden. Method: Data were collected by means of semi-structured interviews with eight school principals. Theories of bioecology and teacher agency informed the study and shed light on the environmental factors and resources affecting school principals' efforts to promote physical activity for inactive children. Result: The most common strategy school principals described was to delegate responsibility for planning organised activities to dedicated school personnel working with the children. In their leadership role, principals described having the power and opportunity to recruit school personnel with positive attitudes towards promoting physical activity, which likely increases inactive children's opportunities to engage in PA. Conclusion: When provided the adequate resources, and by virtue of their management position within the school, principals have the opportunity to make a difference to promote PA for inactive children. Delegating responsibility to school personnel may however create unequal PA opportunities, and if there are no initiators dedicated to this work, inactive children may be left out of PA opportunities in school.

Service learning (SL) engages students in intentional, collaborative service experiences that promote civic citizenship. The COVID-19 pandemic forced traditional face-to-face SL courses to transition into virtual service learning (e-SL). This paper examines the academic and civic outcomes of an e-SL binational sustainable tourism course for undergraduate students. The course was designed to deliver disciplinary knowledge in sustainable tourism and transborder civic citizenship competencies in the following areas: 1) Ethos, 2) Literacy, 3) Inquiry, 4) Action, 5) Leadership, and 6) Partnership. A post-course student survey was deployed to assess student perspectives regarding the achievement of course outcomes. The findings revealed significant (positive) academic and civic transformations among the students due to the intentionality of the e-SL course design and implementation. Results indicate that e-SL in sustainable tourism education can be an effective pedagogy for inculcating civic learning, responsibility, and engagement among students and future professionals in the field of tourism.

This paper offers a meta-analysis scoping study of doctoral dissertations completed in the last 20 years in one doctoral programme of Educational Leadership (EL) at a higher education institution in Texas, aiming at identifying topical foci, epistemology, methodology and main themes. Therefore, we systematically collected, documented, securitised and analysed completed dissertations following the steps identified by PRISMA guidelines. The review aimed to answer the following four questions: (1) What are the general trends of doctoral dissertations in the studied programme? (2) What is the topical foci of these dissertations? (3) What are the prevailing epistemological constructs and genres informing this work? (4) What are the gaps in this research focus within the scope of educational leadership and policy? Based on our analysis, four main key themes were identified: educational leadership and policy, public education, equity and social justice, and race and ethnicity. Further implications, utility of research and future dissertations in educational leadership in this programme and other similar programmes are fully discussed.

Formal teacher leader programs that develop, position, and reward teachers to work with peers to improve instruction are a growing reform effort in the United States, yet there are few published studies of their efficacy. In this paper, we examine the impacts of one district's teacher leadership program on students' annual state test performance. The program placed full-time instructional coaches and partly released English language arts (ELA) and mathematics content specialists in each of 11 district schools. To assess the program's impact, we examined five years of student-level state test data; two years before the adoption of the intervention and three years afterwards. Using an interrupted time series design, we examined trends in performance before and after the adoption of the intervention. Overall, there were no significant effects in ELA, and a small negative effect in mathematics. By contrast, in the stable sub-sample of students who were in the district for the five years examined in the study, there was a large significant positive effect in mathematics and large but non-significant positive effect in ELA. We conclude with a discussion the implications of these findings for research and policy.

The purposes of this research were to study and compare a competency in school administration of school administrators as perceived by teachers in school under the BSESAO. The study employed a survey research design with samples consisting of 308 teachers in the academic year 2022. The samples were categorized by using the Cohen' sample sizes which were selected by stratified random sampling. The instrument was a questionnaire with a reliability of 0.986. Mean, standard, t-test, One-way ANOVA, and Scheffe's multiple comparison method were used to analyze the data. The findings were as follows: 1) the results of competency in school administration of school administrators was at high level, considering each dimension of the opinion, all of them were also at high level; and 2) the comparison' s levels of school administrators: the opinions's competency in school administration of school administrators with different service area offices, academic standings, and school sizes were found to be no difference.

This study investigated the relationship between the perceived authentic leadership of college students and their innovation behavior according to social cognitive theory and further explored the mediating effect of trust climate and creative self-efficacy on this relationship. A questionnaire survey was conducted, and more than 847 samples were collected from college students in China. The results revealed that the perceived authentic leadership of college students had a significant and positive impact on their innovation behavior. Trust climate had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between college students' perceived authentic leadership and innovation behavior. In addition, creative self-efficacy had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between college students' perceived authentic leadership and innovation behavior. Furthermore, trust climate and creative self-efficacy had a serial mediating effect on the relationship between college students' perceived authentic leadership and innovation behavior. These results provide theoretical and practical evidence of college students' innovation behavior.

Doctor of Education (EdD) faculty members play a critical role in contributing to the goals and objectives of their institutions. This case study explored EdD faculty member's contributions to the institution's goals and objectives. A comprehensive analysis of the students' assessments has identified several emerging themes. These themes highlighted how EdD faculty members demonstrate expertise and knowledge, contribute to research, provide mentorship and guidance, foster collaboration and community engagement, engage in service and leadership, promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, prioritize professional development and innovation, advocate for evidence-based practice, create a sense of community and belonging, instill a culture of lifelong learning, and serve as institutional ambassadors. Understanding and recognizing these themes is crucial for institutions to support and empower their EdD faculty members effectively. By implementing recommendations such as providing professional development opportunities, fostering collaboration, recognizing excellence, supporting mentorship and advising, promoting diversity and inclusion, encouraging research dissemination and engagement, nurturing a sense of community and belonging, and establishing feedback mechanisms, institutions can enhance the contributions of EdD faculty members to the overall success of their institutions and the field of education as a whole. Future research in this area could further explore the long-term impact of faculty contributions, conduct comparative analyses, examine student outcomes, explore faculty perspectives, investigate institutional support and resources, and explore the impact of collaborative partnerships.

Higher education institutions continue to invest in online learning, yet research indicates instructors often lack experience, preparation, and guidance for teaching online. While instructor leadership is essential for meaningful online learning, few studies have investigated online instructors' leadership behaviors. This study offers new insights into the conceptual and empirical alignment between instructor leadership, as interpreted through the dual lenses of organizational leadership theory and the Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework, proposing instructor leadership as foundational to the teaching and learning experience in a CoI. Specifically, the convergent mixed methods study investigated students' (N = 87) and instructors' (N = 7) perceptions of instructor servant leadership (SL) behaviors in an online graduate-level course designed to facilitate a CoI. Results demonstrate instructor SL behaviors were perceived differently by students and instructors, instructors' self-perceptions were generally higher than students' perceptions, and students' perceptions of instructor SL were positively correlated with their satisfaction with the course and instructor. Implications offer insights into instructor leadership behaviors important for developing instructor leadership presence to facilitate meaningful learning and student satisfaction in higher education online learning.

The purpose of this study was to examine the moderating role of feedback in the influence between lecturer leadership, lecturer engagement, and student engagement. The study was conducted on students at the Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara, Indonesia where the number of respondents who filled out the questionnaire was 231 respondents. With structural equation modeling, using SemPLS, a moderation test was conducted to prove the research hypothesis that had been designed. The results of the study show that although feedback affects student engagement, feedback does not act as a moderator in the influence between lecturer leadership, lecturer engagement, and student engagement. Meanwhile, lecturer engagement was found not to affect student engagement, but lecturer engagement significantly affected student engagement. In learning, lecturers must pay attention to feedback and lecturer leadership, if lecturers expect high student engagement. This has implications that lecturers have to provide feedback and practice lecturer leadership in the classroom.

This article examines the potential for classroom-based teacher research to support teacher leaders, instructional experts who are committed to examining and improving teaching and learning in schools. The authors share their research examining the intersection of teacher research and teacher leadership. Study participants, practicing teachers in a M.Ed. program, completed electronic open-ended surveys, and participated in group interviews. Findings suggest that conducting teacher research in their classrooms and schools and sharing knowledge of the research process and/or research question or topic beyond the classroom, provided opportunities for teachers to assume both formal and informal leadership positions. Concluding that teacher research can build teacher leader capacity, the authors suggest ways in which schools can support teachers who, by the knowledge, skills, and confidence developed by conducting teacher research, can lead in uncertain times.

In this conceptual article, the issues and insights in leadership are examined in the context of ECE settings. This is a unique field with a predominantly female workforce, and the issue of making a distinction between leadership and management needs to be considered. It is important to develop an understanding of the concept of leadership and identifying the potential challenges in defining the concept in this sector. Relevant literature thus provides theoretical, practical and research-informed evidence to explore the issues in leadership models and effective approaches to support children's learning. This article paid close attention to two key models: distributed leadership and pedagogical leadership. Further discussion regarding these two models addresses the key characteristics and factors that are essential for effective leadership in the settings in England. Despite the challenges faced when applied these two modules to contexts, positive notions of effective leadership are analysed as sharing, collaboration, knowledge exchange, and reflective learning. This article argues that an integrated practice of distributed pedagogical leadership appears to be a useful approach for enacting effective leadership in practice.

The purpose of this study was to understand the relationship between perceived transformational leadership and transactional leadership style and teachers' intellectual style. Based on 967 middle school teachers' survey answers, this study identified that there are positive relationships between perceived transformational leadership and Type I intellectual style, as well as a positive relationship between perceived instructional leadership and Type II intellectual style. This study paves the way for a theoretical understanding of the relationship between leadership style and teachers' intellectual style and provides practical suggestions for education practitioners.

School leaders enrolled in CPED-influenced and practitioner focused doctoral programs require specific research-based skills and knowledge that bridge both educational scholarship and practice in order to be relevant for both their dissertation process and school practice. In doing so, these doctorate in education (EdD) programs must critically exam their qualitative research methods courses to honor the professional practice of their adult learners and usher in innovative, collaborative, transformative, and participatory research design courses to meet this demand. As such we present our methodological course sequence built on principles of adult learning and a signature pedagogy, the first course is a reimagination of the qualitative research course and the second is a reconceptualized transformative capstone.

This essay is in response to the need for schools to move from crisis to adaptation. The essay is informed by the question: how might school leaders use conversation to effectively engage adaptation? Adaptation is about transforming systems. We find that with adaptation as the aim, Transformative Leadership Conversation can be used to guide schools from crisis response to adaptation. The essay lays out suggestions in a theory of action for how school leaders can use conversation to move from crisis to adaptation. These suggestions include the use of framing, questioning, and listening.
