The ongoing transformation of the fashion industry is driven by an increasing focus on sustainability, ethical practices, and responsible consumer behavior. Simultaneously, social media platforms have emerged as influential forces in this field, shaping fashion trends and consumer preferences. Despite a substantial body of literature investigating consumer preferences between fast and sustainable fashion, a gap in understanding the intricate relationship between fashion preferences, socio-economic profiling, and social media engagement is evident. Thus, this research was aimed at comparatively decoding EU consumers' preferences for fast fashion against sustainable fashion by exploring the interplay of demographic factors ‒ age, gender, and geographical location ‒ on fashion preferences, as expressed through the digital engagement with fashion-related content on the Meta social platforms. The research methodology implied resorting to logistic regression analysis, aiming to uncover the underlying patterns that fundamentally characterize consumers' preferences for fashion in the EU. The results provide novel insights into how digital engagement with fashion-related content can act as a barometer for regional fashion identities and preferences, useful for the identification of both convergence and inflection points. Moreover, findings offer a robust foundation for crafting strategies that promote sustainable fashion practices, tailored to specific EU age, gender, and location demographics, by leveraging the insights gained about EU consumer preferences. This study aims to track the progress of consumer awareness of sustainable fashion longitudinally and to investigate any improvement in consumer awareness of sustainable fashion. A survey was conducted in a large state university in the US during the last nine years, and 403 returned questionnaires were kept for data analyses. The results show that consumer awareness of sustainable fashion significantly differs yearly, and there has been an overall improvement. Longitudinally, consumers are more aware of Recycle, Vintage, and Organic in sustainable fashion; their awareness of the connection between Vegan and sustainable fashion has increased dramatically; and they have lower awareness levels of Artisan, Custom, FairTrade, and LocallyMade. The pandemic had a significantly positive impact on consumer awareness of Recycle, Vintage, Custom, Fairtrade, and Vegan. As the first longitudinal study examining consumer awareness of sustainable fashion, this study provides critical implications on the practical business level and sheds light on consumer education. This study also brings further theoretical insight into the sustainable fashion literature, especially by developing the Four-Stage Model of Consumer Awareness of Sustainable Fashion. The fast fashion industry has resulted in environmental degradation and resource depletion. Thus, sustainable fashion behaviors are a growing trend for promoting environmental sustainability. However, the sustainable fashion industry, particularly second-hand clothing is still in its infancy, especially in the emerging economies. By extending the value-belief-norm model, this study explores the impact of environmental values (biosphere and altruistic values), beliefs (ecological worldview, awareness of consequences, and ascription of responsibility), and norms (personal and social norms) on second-hand fashion behaviors. This study used cross-sectional design and collected quantitative data from 1847 responses through online survey. For data analysis, this study used partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) and multi-group analysis (MGA). Findings of this study confirmed the positive and significant effect of biosphere and altruistic values on ecological worldview. Ecological worldview, awareness of consequences, and ascription of responsibility also have positive and significant effects on personal norms. Moreover, personal and social norms have a significant positive effect on intentions towards second-hand fashion behaviors. Finally, the intention towards second-hand fashion behaviors has a positive and significant effect on second-hand fashion behaviors. This study validates that environmental values, beliefs, and norms significantly impact sustainable fashion behaviors, particularly in the area of second-hand clothing. This study emphasizes the important role of social norm on second-hand fashion behaviors, and adds research references in the field of emerging economies. The findings provide valuable insights and a reference for fashion industry practitioners to improve their operational strategies. Environmental policies should therefore focus on promoting the consumer's and industry's attention and enthusiasm for second-hand fashion as a sustainable behavior and its environmental consequences, and strengthening the extent of dissemination of the idea. The fashion sector, recognized for its resource-intensive methods, is currently encountering pressing sustainability issues due to its substantial dependence on natural resources, extensive utilization of chemicals, and exploitation of labor within its supply chain, thus giving rise to notable environmental and ethical apprehensions. In the Industry 4.0 era, which emphasizes the integration of new production technologies to enhance working conditions, productivity, and production facility quality, the fashion sector has discovered opportunities to tackle sustainability challenges by adopting technology for transitioning to circular, greener, and digital systems with reduced environmental impact. Despite promising prospects, the opportunities provided by this paradigm are yet to be fully realized. In this context, design is crucial in enhancing digitally driven production processes for fashion companies within this framework. To explore this, the study suggests an iterative approach to recognizing challenges and opportunities, concentrating on the current alignment with technological advancements. A design-focused strategy aims to devise a comprehensive approach to fashion sustainability and circular economy (CE) principles within the Industry 4.0 framework. The aim is to establish an innovative laboratory model that aids fashion companies in effectively managing the sustainable and digital transition. The study offers insights into potential research opportunities to accelerate the Industry 4.0 transformation in the fashion sector. It envisages a more positive, sustainable, and responsible future by establishing a Circular Fashion-Tech Lab, integrating innovative technologies for sustainable and circular practices in the fashion industry. Nowadays, there is a growing awareness of environmental protection, new findings in the field of sustainable chemistry, the use of biodegradable materials, and the increased use of eco-friendly textile products. For this reason, natural dyes are being used more and more frequently, giving rise to a new way of decorating textiles, namely, plant transfer printing, popularly known as "eco-printing", in which the shape and/or pigment of a plant is transferred to the textile. In addition, the great interest of the young generation in the application and research into the use of natural dyes can create incentives for cultural and social sustainability through the preservation of national heritage. Plant transfer printing is a method that combines scientific technology and artistic design with corresponding benefits for the eco system. The very fact that the patterns are unique and unpredictable brings out the notion of artistic freedom. In the work, plant transfer printing was carried out on undyed cotton material and on material dyed with pomegranate peels, walnut leaves, coffee, and aleppo pine bark. The influence of the pH value and the capillarity of the fabric, as well as the treatment of the leaves with iron(II) sulphate heptahydrate solution, on the aesthetics of the print and the colour fastness during washing was investigated. Based on the optimised parameters and a sustainable fabric design, the clothing collection "Hamadryad", inspired by Greek mythology, was realised. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The continuous level of consumption in the fast fashion industry has a concerning effect and needs to be addressed through a strategic approach, as it has a considerable environmental, social, and economic impact. The study contributes to a better understanding of the barriers hindering the transition toward a more sustainable future in the fast fashion industry through qualitative research. We conducted the qualitative research using the Grounded Theory, which allows an evaluation from different and multiple perspectives, resulting in a more exhaustive and justified result. Our approach was exploratory, and the results will be tested in future studies. The purpose of the paper was to map the road to sustainable fashion by understanding the obstacles/barriers, and solutions/drivers for sustainable development. The sustainability fast fashion organizational barriers were identified in the international literature through a structured literature review and further tested for the Romanian market through interviews. After the NVivo Analysis, the identified barriers referenced the most to least, from a Romanian organisational dimensions perspective were financial barriers, insufficient management engagement, lack of Romanian governmental support and infrastructure, ecofriendly packaging, and stakeholder and supplier barriers. The most mentioned driver dimension from an organisational point of view was the existence of a financial reward system for stakeholders, funding programs from the Government and EU, the implementation of mandatory regulations, and the possibility of creating an infrastructure. The fashion industry increasingly prioritizes sustainability and environmental responsibility while emphasizing cultural heritage conservation. Designers blend style with mindful practices to reduce ecological impacts and preserve traditional craftsmanship. Sustainability is quickly replacing fashion, simply reducing or mitigating the negative environmental impact while focusing on culture. Traditional Chinese embroidery, noted for its long history and intricate craft, allows us to combine the areas of cultural and environmental sustainability through contemporary fashion design. The current research paper explores the area of traditional Chinese embroidery in contemporary garment design, which would allow for cultural and ecological sustainability. Content analysis of contemporary fashion with traditional motifs is part of the research. This research work examines how consumer behavior and purchasing pattern are affected by recycled cotton-polyester blended clothing, with a particular emphasis on sustainable apparel merchandising. The use of recycled materials has drawn a lot of attention as environmental sustainability in the fashion business is growing attention. In order to investigate customer behavior, perceptions, preferences and purchasing decisions regarding recycled cotton-polyester blended clothing.This research employed a mixed-methods design that included both qualitative and quantitative methods. For a deeper understanding of the customer attitudes, opinions and motives towards sustainable fashion recycled materials in particular, this phase qualitatively involves a one-on-one interview and focus group discussions based on age, gender social class as well as the level of education. In addition, the study considers aspects such as longevity in use, wear resistance, quality, ease of use and clothing comfort that influence buying decisions. Using data from the qualitative phase as a foundation, the quantitative phase uses surveys given to a broad consumer sample to measure consumer preferences and purchasing pattern for recycled cotton-polyester clothing. This research aims at identifying the key factors that impact the preference of customers and buying behavior for recycled cotton and polyester blends based apparel. Additionally, it aims to assess how well sustainable clothing merchandising techniques work to promote these goods. This study indicates that individuals aged 25–45 from higher social strata and with higher educational attainment exhibit greater awareness and preference for recycled apparel with more than 60 % demonstrating a marked inclination towards these products.
