The present study is an attempt to construct a morpho-structural model for the Korek anticline that is located within the High folded zone of the Zagros Fold and Thrust Belt in the Northern Iraq-Kurdistan region. A detail geological map constructed for this structure, the stratigraphic succession that is exposed in the area was deposited from the middle Jurassic up to upper Cretaceous, and consists of nine formations. The most important morphological landscape and landforms in the studied area are due to endogenic and exogenic processes. Accordingly, the area is divided into four main units, which are units of structural, denudational, fluvial and solution origins. Each unit characterized by its own morphological feature differs from one another. According to structural point of view the field data are analyzed from two point of the viewing, one from map view and secondly from cross sections. The geometrical properties from map view of the Korek Anticline indicated that this fold is an asymmetrical double plunging, open to gentle, non-cylindrically curviplanar fold. The Korek Anticline becomes sharper with the depth, but broader and more open upward, this is one of the most characteristic features of the parallel fold (Class 1B). The presence of numerous reverse faults and strike-slip faults which affect the architecture of the Korek Anticline indicates that this Anticline formed by a Fault-propagation fold mechanism. Detailed balanced and retro-deformable cross sections along this anticline indicate that the shortening percentage can be differentiated in space and times, while the depth to detachment gives values that iscoincident with the Ora Shale Formation of Paleozoic age. A morpho-structural model was constructed for this structure and it consists of two main stages and five substages were responsible for the formation of the Korek structure. The first main stage belongs to structural construction, which consists of three sub-stages, while the main second stage is belonging to morphological destruction, which consist also two sub-stages. The structures of two types of unidirectional fiber-reinforced composites — with an ELUR-P carbon fiber tape, an XT-118 cold-cure binder with an HSE 180 REM prepreg, and a hot-cure binder — were investigated. The diameters of fibers and fiber bundles (threads) of both the types of composites were measured, and their mutual arrangement was examined both in the semifinished products (in the uncured state) and in the finished composites. The defects characteristic of both the types of binder and manufacturing technique were detected in the cured composites. Based on an analysis of the results obtained, linearized problems on the internal multiscale buckling modes of an individual fiber (with and without account of its interaction with the surrounding matrix) or of a fiber bundle are formulated. In the initial atate, these structural elements of the fibrous composites are in a subcritical (unperturbed) state under the action of shear stresses and tension (compression) in the transverse direction. Such an initial stress state is formed in them in tension and compression tests on flat specimens made of off-axis-reinforced composites with straight fibers. To formulate the problems, the equations derived earlier from a consistent variant of geometrically nonlinear equations of elasticity theory by reducing them to the one-dimensional equations of the theory of straight rods on the basis of a refined Timoshenko shear model with account of tensile-compressive strains in the transverse direction are used. It is shown that, in loading test specimens, a continuous rearrangement of composite structure can occur due to the realization and continuous change of internal buckling modes as the wave-formation parameter varies continuously, which apparently explain the decrease revealed in the tangential shear modulus of the fibrous composites with increasing shear strains. Development of the ocean, especially in Arctic regions, calls for the construction of an up-to-date fleet, including nuclear-powered icebreakers, arctic vessels, gas carriers, fixed and floating drilling platforms, submarine systems for oil and gas extraction on the continental shelf, reinforcement of coastal regions, and the construction of ports. That will require large quantities of weldable low-temperature steels that are also of high strength, so as to minimize the mass of the structures. The Zvezda shipbuilding complex in the far east of Russia is intended to meet that need. It is the largest such facility not only in Russia but in the world. In addition, the Vyborg ship-building plant and the Northern Shipyard (Severnaya Verf) in St Petersburg are being modernized. Another important task is the creation of new steels with the least possible alloying and standardized composition, so as to permit the development of more economical welding and assembly technologies. In the present work, the structure formed in low-alloy steels with variable content during plastic deformation is discussed. Samples from three melts of different chemical composition are studied: specifically, the melts differ in nickel content: 0.5, 1, and 2% Ni. The steels are tested on the Gleeble 3800 research complex, which simulates thermomechanical treatment with different temperatures in the final stage of rolling and with accelerated cooling to the specified temperature. The structure is studied by optical metallography and crystallographic analysis using a scanning electron microscope (EBSD analysis). The mechanical properties of the steels are determined. The thermal and deformational treatment of the steel must be selected in accordance with their level of alloying—that is, with the final structure of the steel (ferrite-bainite, bainite, or martensite-bainite). It is found that, in steel with ferrite-bainite structure, the best approach to strengthening is to create small-angle boundaries in the α phase during plastic deformation. Steel with bainitic structure does not undergo marked strengthening as a result of change in the deformation temperature during the final stage of thermomechanical treatment. For martensite-bainite structure, no treatment ensures the creation of additional small-angle boundaries. That may be associated with subsequent polymorphic transformation by a shear mechanism. Landslides are among the nature's primarily ways of adjustment to slope stability. In Darjiling Himalayas the process has been intensified by human interference mainly through rapid deforestation, incorrect construction procedure and unplanned tapping of natural resources. The present paper aims at investigating the occurrence of landslides mainly due to human intervention. For analyzing the acuteness of the problem, important events of landslides over time, landslide susceptibility map using traditional check-list and investigation of the nature of human intervention for landslide occurrences have been carried out. From the study it is found that extreme rainfall events of consecutive days accumulating an amount of 1000 to 1200 mm, coupled with deep weathering in susceptible structure could trigger to 5 to 10 m-thick landslides. Being saturated with percolating rainwater, such slopes even with a rainfall 50 of mm/h would cause disastrous landsllides. Common occurrence of landslides is found along the springs, where thick debris is removed along the slope, ontop of the bedrock.. Generally deforested urbanized tracts, illegal coal mining sites, tea gardens, artillery roads connecting hills with the plains are the most susceptible areas to sliding.

In the paper on the basis of a systemic analysis of the English fairy tales’ semantic, functional and structural characteristics the author updates its definition of a small form folk text, outlines typical genre characteristics and substantiates a hierarchical subordination of its functional features. The paper also advances the algorithmic model, representing the steps of unfolding the English fairy tales’ plot elements, which serves as a theoretical and methodological ground for the experimental phonetic study of prosodic means that organise the text of a fairy tale. Within the process of model formation, the author performs a matrix analysis of the fairy tale’s content and compositional structure, presented as a systemic algorithmic scheme. The evaluation of emotional and pragmatic potentials of the spoken fairy tale made it possible to describe the peculiarities of prosodic features functioning within its structural elements (exposition → development of the events → climax → denouement) and at their junctures as well as substantiate its invariant and variant intonation patterns. The carried out auditory analysis proves that there is a direct correlation between the fairy tale’s plot structure and its prosodic means, whose specific interaction triggers creative and cognitive processes in the recipient’s mind aimed at conveying the text pragmatic aim.

There are several approaches to city analysis. Urban Morphology focuses on the form of urban elements considering temporal issues. Current research employs the Structural Elements defined by Munizaga’s methodology (1993) and analyzes maps published in 1932, 1934, 1935, 1938, 1949 and 1951 of the first town planned by the Paraná Plantations (CTNP). Compositions with regard to Types and Configuration Patterns were verified. Transformations occurred as from the original plan, with the maintenance of the former structure and the main axes. Initial imprints preserving the primary stratum of the city may be identified. By employing Munizaga’s Urban Structures, the analyses of the maps revealed the beginning of disarticulation of the planned city, back in 1938. These transformations were more evident in 1949. Current research contributes towards the understanding of the genesis, permanence and transformations ofLondrina’s landscape.

The structure of methodologies of the dissertation research (thesis) is given. Disclosure of the main structural elements in presenting the general characteristics of the study: the title of the dissertation; aim and relevance of the study; contradiction and problem statement; object and subject of the study; aim and hypothesis; novelty, theoretical and practical importance; provisions for the defense. The features of the formation of methodologies for medical research are shown. Tests to practice in formulating some methodological concepts are proposed. The content of the material presented can serve as a methodological guideline for scientifi c researchers to adjust basic ideas, refl ecting the main concepts and relationship between them in a generalized form.

Structural elements inserted in proteins are essential to define folding/unfolding mechanisms and partner recognition events governing signaling processes in living organisms. Here, we present an original approach to model the folding mechanism of these structural elements. Our approach is based on the exploitation of local, sequence-dependent structural information encoded in a database of three-residue fragments extracted from a large set of high-resolution experimentally determined protein structures. The computation of conformational transitions leading to the formation of the structural elements is formulated as a discrete path search problem using this database. To solve this problem, we propose a heuristically-guided depth-first search algorithm. The domain-dependent heuristic function aims at minimizing the length of the path in terms of angular distances, while maximizing the local density of the intermediate states, which is related to their probability of existence. We have applied the strategy to two small synthetic polypeptides mimicking two common structural motifs in proteins. The folding mechanisms extracted are very similar to those obtained when using traditional, computationally expensive approaches. These results show that the proposed approach, thanks to its simplicity and computational efficiency, is a promising research direction.

The field experiment was held in the experimental of the selected area in Polyanovo village (South Bulgaria) in the period 2013-2016. The randomized complete block design with 4 replications and 25 m2 plot size was applied. The sowing was made with 550 seeds/m2 after three predecessor - sunflower, barley and coriander and three rates of nitrogen fertilization - 80, 120, 60 kg/ha and control N0. The investigation aim was to establish the effect of predecessor and rates of nitrogen fertilization on the structural elements and the yield of triticale variety Bumerang in South Bulgaria. All the stages of the established technology for wheat growing were followed. The grain yield is determined with standard grain moisture of 13%. The indices; the number of productive tillers (m2), the height of plants (cm), length of the spike (cm), the number of spikelets per spike, number of grains per spike, the weight of the grains per spike (g) and grain yield (kg ha-1) were determined. The analysis of the results shows that both the experimental factors (predecessor and nitrogen fertilization) in combination with meteorological conditions during the years of the study had a significant influence on yield and yield components of triticale variety Bumerang. The most suitable predecessor for triticale variety Bumerang under the conditions of South Bulgaria is coriander, followed by sunflower and barley. The process of instructing the sportsmen has always been a complex and thorough activity, that requests profundity, professional sensitivity and bonding. The main characters in this process are played by managers, coaches, trainers, psychologists, sociologists, technicians who establish and hand over theoretical knowledge, building abilities for the sportsmen. In this way is being created the environment for instructing and highlighting the physical, technical, tactical and psychic potential of the participants in competitions. The preparation process of the sportsmen is more and more headed towards the integral and deep internalization of the instructive components, based on the interconnections between the elements of the modern sporting training. Discussion about elections and electoral systems is in fact discussion about the effects of representative bodies in democratic political systems. Understanding of that link is not possible without knowing technical details used for forming electoral systems. Despite nonexistence of generally accepted conceptual framework and complexity of different definition approaches and interpretation bases of both elections and electoral systems, there is an agreement that elections are related to representative democracy and they represent its central institution, while electoral systems represent the ways in which voters can express their preferences through their votes and possibilities how those voices can be turned into representative mandates. Which elections strategy, formed in electoral model, should be applied? How to combine structural elements of electoral systems in order to achieve hoped-for political effects? Those are the question which could be answered only by good knowledge of the complex electoral problem area which is in contact with total political landscape: institutions, processes and contents.

The aim of the experiment is to determine grain yield in spring vetch variety "Tempo" depending on the technology of cultivation. The study was conducted in the period 2011 2013, under field conditions, on soil subtype slightly leached chernozem. Variants of cultivation: 1. At conventional technology control; 2. Without use of preparations of inorganic origin; 3. Treatment with bio insecticides "Ecofil P". It was found that the best biometric and structural parameters of the extraction, as well as higher yields of grain (221,00 kg/da biological and 165,50 kg/da economic) distinguishes the crop cultivated in the conventional technology. The lowest yields of grain (biological 122,49 kg/da and economic 98,90 kg/da) were harvested from the crop grown without the use of preparations of inorganic origin. Yields derived from the crop treated with bio preparation "Ecofil P" occupy an intermediate position. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

During 2013-2016 in field experiment on soil type strongly leached chernozem, the effects of Afalon 45CK (450g.l-1 linuron), Stomp 330EK (330 g.l-1 pendimethalin) and Zenkor 70VG (700 g.kg-1 metribuzin), applied in optimal and double increased doses on grain yield and its main structural elements in "Venka 1" wheat variety were studied. The experiment was started after the block method in four replications, the experimental plot being 50 m2. The wheat was grown according to standard technology after winter oilseed rape predecessor. The selectivity of the herbicides was recorded on the 20th and on the 40th day after spraying. The species composition of weeds was reported by the method of visual estimation, the degree of weed infestation – by the quantitative method. The height of plants, cm; number of spikes per one ear; mass of spikes per one ear, g; number of grains per one ear; mass of grains per one ear, g and yield ofseed, kg.da-1 were traced. It was found, that the structural elements of yield, when soil herbicides were used, showed values higher or close to those of the control. The highest yield was obtained in treatment with Afalon 45CK and Stomp 330EK soil herbicides, applied in optimal doses, exceeding the control variant by 4.4% and 2.8%, respectively. In the period 2011-2013 were studied productive potential of the spring field pea variety "Kerpo" grown in different technologies and their impact on phenology, structure, biometrics and grain yield. The study was carried out under field conditions, on soil subtype slightlyleached chernozem. Variants of cultivation: 1. At conventional technology – control; 2. Without use of preparations of inorganic origin; 3. Treatment with bio insecticides "Ecofil P". It was found that the crop grown on conventional technology stands out the most rapid growing up, development and the best combination of biometric and structural indicators. Under this option has received the highest biological (384,93 kg/da) and economic (296,10 kg/da) grain yield and reported the biggest loss of seeds (88,83 kg/da). The lowest biological (258,50 kg/da) and economic (222,17 kg/da) yield harvested from the crop grown without preparations of inorganic origin.q [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Habitat structure (HS) corresponds to the presence of physical structures in a system and is one of the most important ecological features that influences patterns and processes of biological communities. In this study, the use of complexity and heterogeneity in marine empirical studies in the context of HS was investigated. Empirical publications that discussed the role of physical structure on marine communities were surveyed and the use of different HS-related terms were analyzed and classified as: (i) complexity; (ii) heterogeneity; (iii) both as synonymous; and (iv) both as non-synonymous. A cluster analysis showed different patterns of use on different habitats. A conceptual clarification, through studies that presented definitions, was performed and a conceptual scheme was built considering two applications: (i) multidimensional or unidimensional measures; and (ii) quantitative, qualitative, or quali-quantitative measures. There was no agreement in the use and application of HS related terms in different marine habitats, and the analyses performed here indicated that (i) complexity corresponds to a multidimensional measurement with parts that interact and (ii) heterogeneity is one dimension of the habitat complexity. The present study provided the starting point for closer communication within different areas of ecology and contributes to future robust generalizations regarding HS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Over the last 18 years we have extensively studied an intra-Opalinus Clay fault zone that crops out within the Mont Terri rock laboratory in NW-Switzerland. We performed micro- and macrostructural characterization on four outcrops of this so-called 'Main Fault', which crosscuts the entire Mont Terri rock laboratory. Combining detailed structural mapping, analysis down to the nanometer-scale, and geophysical investigations leads to a better understanding of fault zones within clay-dominated lithologies. The multi-scale, multi-technique approach that we applied in this study on four individual outcrops is critical for describing such a complex system. In these four outcrops, we differentiate five macroscopic structural elements of the Main Fault and have studied their occurrence and spatial distribution. In general, scaly clay, including S-C bands (S = 'schistosité' = cleavage, C = 'cisaillement' = shear parallel to shear zone boundaries) and microfolds, occurs in isolated, sharply bound lenses and in larger zones at the top and bottom of the Main Fault. A cm-thin, continuous layer of gouge runs along the upper boundary of the fault zone. The non-scaly part shows rather low strain and consists of rhombohedral blocks of undeformed rock (horses), bound by slickensides. The µm-thin shear zones are considered to be elementary building blocks for the structural elements of the Main Fault. Direct comparison of the four studied outcrops to each other highlights the significant lateral variability of the Main Fault. In addition to a reduction in thickness from west to east, size and distribution of structural elements are highly variable. Correlation of these structural elements between closely spaced outcrops is not possible. Fortunately, the upper and lower boundary of the Main Fault, as well as thicker sheets of scaly clay, can be recognized using seismic attributes and thus yield indirect information about size and internal structure of fault zones in clay. Generally, environments with a great habitat complexity (HC) can support a great number of species and large abundances of organisms. However, the mechanisms behind this effect are not entirely clear and some studies did not observe positive effects of complexity on diversity and abundance of biological assemblages. Here, HC was considered as an integrative perspective, specifically as different characteristics of physical structure and; it was tested whether abundance and diversity of macrobenthic assemblages of soft bottom are influenced by variation of two characteristics of habitat complexity, the number and evenness of sediment fractions. The hypothesized positive relationships between HC and richness, Shannon-Wiener diversity index and abundance of benthic macrofauna were not observed. The different response variables (richness, Shannon-Wiener, abundance) which consider different dimensions of biodiversity, can show distinct results when the same habitat is compared. For both structural characteristics of the sediment, a large amount of specimens of Bispira sp. (Polychaeta: Sabellidae) and Terebellides sp. (Polychaeta: Trichobranchidae) were observed in the most complex treatments. These taxa were favored by the presence of gravels where their larvae, likely originated from adult populations at nearby habitats, can settle. The multidimensional structure of the benthic macrofauna was significantly influenced by habitat complexity; and considering high taxonomical and functional diversity, multivariate analyses were more appropriated to investigate such complex effects. In this context, it is clear that careful thought must be given to choose appropriated habitat complexity characteristics and biological measurements. Therefore, studies addressing different combinations of structural characteristics of habitat and mechanisms behind the effects on biological communities are still of great need in ecological science. Two-dimensional (2D) seismic reflection data tied to well logs are used to present new insights on the structural geometry and tectonic evolution of an Early Cretaceous rift crossing the Nile Valley in Upper Egypt. This rift extends to ∼260 km long in a NW-SE direction, and 80–100 km wide, and was previously unstudied due to a lack of subsurface data. It is named here as the Upper Egypt Rift. It is divided into three depocentres, or segments, from southeast to northwest: The Kharit, Nuqra, and Komombo basins, filled with thick (ca. 3700 m) continental to open marine Lower Cretaceous-Campanian/Maastrichtian strata. The Kharit and Komombo basins are NW-striking fault-bounded half-grabens associated with NE-dipping syn-rift rocks. They are linked by a major N–S oriented normal fault bounding the eastern side of the Nuqra basin and terminate in two overlapping synthetic transfer zones. This rift geometry is controlled by the reactivation of a Precambrian Najd-parallel (N125°E) shear zone during rift initiation. Seismic cross-section restoration indicates a multiphase extensional history for the Upper Egypt Rift. The first rift episode occurred during the Berriasian-Valanginian and the early Aptian as a result of the opening of the South Atlantic, and was influenced by the tectonic evolution of the Neotethys Ocean as well. The second rift locally developed in the area during the Cenomanian-Turonian and was characterized by extrusive alkaline volcanics and intrusive rocks. Rift-related Natash volcanics and trachyte plugs of Cenomanian/Turonian age are exposed at the eastern side of the Nuqra basin but not recorded in the Komombo and Kharit basins. Soon after that, the whole basin experienced mild tectonic inversion synchronously with the Syrian Arc compressional events. Rotated fault blocks and slightly inverted anticlines thus comprise the main hydrocarbon trapping structures in the Komombo basin. Further work is required to define the time-dependent relationship between oil migration and trap development in the Upper Egypt Rift. • A major rift system was developed across the Nile Valley, Upper Egypt, in the Early Cretaceous. • This Upper Egypt Rift shows three rift segments: the Kharit, Nuqra, and Komombo basins. • Seismic cross-section restoration suggests a multi-phased extension history for these basins. • The Upper Egypt Rift experienced mild tectonic inversion associated to Syrian Arc tectonics. • Rotated fault blocks and inverted anticlines comprise hydrocarbon-trapping structures. Based on archive and field studies of the remained fragments of the fort (Spasskaya gate tower and a chapel), the article considers an attempt to restore its plan structure and different objects: a shopping arcade, a writ hut, a complex of the tsar’s military governor’s yard, a tower, and salt and sable storehouses. With the help of field studies, measurements and photofixation we have revealed compositional, planning and design features of the fort (ostrog) and its structures.

The paper advances a cognitive model representing a creative mechanism of riddle decoding by its recipient, which serves as a theoretical and methodological ground for the experimental phonetic study of prosodic means that organize the text of a riddle. Within the process of cognitive model formation the author performs a conceptual analysis of the riddle compositional structure, presented as a systemic algorithmic scheme. It is confirmed that a characteristic feature of a folk riddle is its division into two elements: the first one is the description of an object, further differentiated into “topic” and “commentary”, while the second one is the riddle answer, or solution, generated directly in the recipient’s mind as a result of his/her mental activities. The carried out auditory analysis proves that such a limitation of the riddle’s structure is compensated by a set of prosodic means and their specific interaction, which trigger creative and cognitive processes in the recipient’s mind aimed at searching for the riddle solution.

Structural glued laminated timber (glulam) is an engineered, stress-rated product that consists of two or more layers of lumber (i.e., laminations) glued together with the grain running lengthwise. This article discusses typical shapes and sizes of glulam construction elements and static systems. This paper presents special stress conditions in the apex area of double-tapered beams with varying cross-section, curved and pitched-cambered beams. The results (tensile stresses perpendicular to the grain) obtained by the SAP2000 computer program are shown. In many cases these stresses are the crucial parameter that determines the size of the beam in the apex area. The article discusses the most typical application of glulam elements and analyses its production and use in Slovenia and other EU member states. The study seeks to identify opportunities for increased use of glulam construction in Slovenia.

El actual trabajo, considera varios aspectos teóricos que involucran temáticas de las matemáticas como de la Etnomatemática, las cuales al ser abordadas dentro del análisis de las prácticas de un albañil, permitieron desplegar una serie de acciones que posibilitaron una pequeña investigación en torno a evidenciar los procesos matemáticos referentes a la conversión de medidas, la construcción de circunferencias y la medición de ángulos que se dan de manera implícita en las prácticas laborales de un grupo social determinado(albañiles).
