Abstract

The traditional teaching mode of the digital image processing, which is centered on teachers, textbooks and classrooms, hinders the requirements of the image technology development and impedes the cultivation of the innovative talents. Though the digital image processing is one of the emerging technologies, it has been rapidly developed and widely used in the electronic information technology. In order to adapt to its development, this paper has explored the teaching and practice reform on the digital image processing by different color mode and to improve the understanding of students as well as teacher by clustered image which will enhance the core idea of a particular image by exploring all the colors present in every part of image. Students can better gain their knowledge skill by observing those images in colored clustered form.

Abstract

This paper proposed a fast and efficient video de-hazing system with reduced computational complexity for real-time computer vision applications. Video de-hazing is an important task and extensively researched in image/video processing and computer vision. The proposed method initially developed and verified for single images and later extended for real-time video’s. The first key aspect of the proposed method is estimating the accurate transmission map using the hue, saturation, and light color model together with red, green, and blue color space. The second relevant aspect is preserving the edges and avoiding halos and artifacts by employing the median of pixels. These aspects reduce the number of computations. It does not require the most computationally complex step of refine transmission map. The advantage of this method is evaluated with five existing classical methods in terms of the average time constant (ATC), peak signal-to-noise ratio, percentage of haze improvement, average contrast of the output image, mean square error and structural similarity index. The comparative experiment shows that the proposed method is two times faster than the existing methods. The qualitative and quantitative analysis demonstrated that the proposed method can attain better de-hazing results and can be efficiently used for real-time video de-hazing applications. Based on comparative analysis, we mapped the proposed method on Raspberry Pi3 and Jetson Nano (GPU) with 24 fps (frames per second) without noticeable delay from input to output and demonstrated for the real-time video.

This study presents the possibilities for using different colour models for visual interpretation of satellite imagery. Using the RGB model to visualise different spectral bands as a false colour composite image make it possible for different types of objects and features on the Earth surface to be highlighted and easily discerned based on their specific colour. Examples are shown based on satellite imagery from several free sources, e.g. the USGS’s Earth Explorer, the ESA’s Copernicus Open Access Hub, etc.

Abstract

This study used dynamic maps for skin color detection and applied a morphological closing operator to identify supplementary pixels in the image space to update the color map. Dual constraints were considered in the refinement system to prevent overestimation, which are the centroid of the skin color region in image space and dynamic range in color model space. As a result, the proposed system enables us to update the skin color map continuously. This paper presents a simple, rapid, and effective method for single skin color detection. This paper proposes skin color detection for images involving multiskin color regions (i.e., multiple human subjects of different races) by using the AdaBoost face detection mechanism. The experimental results reveal that the proposed method is highly robust for detection of diverse skin colors and simultaneous occurrences of multiskin color regions.

Abstract

The potential use of colorimetric sensors has received significant attention due to its feasibility for use in various applications. After reacting with a sample, the image of the colorimetric sensor can be captured and converted into digital data using several different color models. The analytical data can then be processed with various chemometric methods. This research study investigated the predictive performance of calibration models established using color models commonly used in analytical chemistry including RGB, CMYK, HSV and CIELAB. A total of eight commercially available colorimetric sensors were used to determine the presence of manganese (Mn2+), copper (Cu2+), iron (Fe2+/Fe3+), nitrate (NO3–), phosphate (PO43–), sulfate (SO42–), as well as total hardness and pH values. As external validation tests, real water samples collected in Chiang Mai, Thailand were used. Based on the resulting data obtained using the synthetic test samples, the color that was most similar to the appearing color of the chemical sensor could offer satisfactory results. However, it was not always the case especially when the strips composed of multiple colorimetric sensors or sensor array were used. When tested with external validation, the predictive performance could be improved using appropriate data preprocessing and, in this research study, a normalization method was recommended to guarantee the accuracy of the calibration models.

Abstract

Shadow detection is an important process for applications like classification, change detection, image interpretation, object detection, and recognition. The existence of shadow in satellite images reduce the amount of information that can be extracted and accordingly makes these applications more difficult or even impossible. Different color space is used to detect shadows based on , , and bands. This paper aims to represent an automatic approach for shadow detection from high-resolution satellite images. In this approach, a new index to highlight shadow areas based on color model is developed. A comparative study is carried out between the proposed index with a different photometric invariant color model, including IHS, HSV, YIQ, and models over the ratio and single-band images. Then, an automatic thresholding method is applied in images histogram. The accuracy of the obtained results is evaluated in terms of visual comparisons and shadow detection accuracy assessments. Experimental results show that the proposed ratio method provides the best results for shadow detection. On the other hand, shallow water is still misclassified as a shadow.

Abstract

Some compressed images using Vector Quantization algorithm suffers from blocking artifacts which degrades the visual appeal of the image. Present study proposes a hybrid vector quantization method applicable on de-correlated color model. As luminance channel carries image information and loss of image information results in degradation of the visual appeal of an image, so aim of this study is focused on retaining more image information during compression process. For luminance channel compression, a new four level quantization based compression method is developed. Luminance channel is partitioned into smaller blocks. Then for each block, four level quantization is applied which local to the current block only. This results many level luminance value effectively for the whole image. It helps to retain better information. Chrominance channels are compressed using conventional Vector Quantization. This hybrid compression method improves visual quality of the decompressed image reasonably compared to VQ. The proposed method is applied on many standard images found in literature and images of UCIDv.2 color image database. Results are analyzed in terms of Peak Signal to Noise Ratio, Structure Similarity Index and space requirement reduction for compressed image using the method. Experimental results show that proposed method retains better quality of image in terms of PSNR and SSIM than Vector Quantization and Modified Vector Quantization. This method reduces storage space requirement for the compressed images in the range of 84% to 89%.
