This article explores how the event of the Amazon Synod and the magisterium of Pope Francis prompt theological reflection. It proposes as a hypothesis that the problem of unity in Theology can be reconsidered by means of the shifts and categories offered in contemporary Church reflection in response to the challenges of the present century, since they touch upon theological foundations. Therefore, this research asks how to think about the unity of Theology within the magisterial framework of the challenges faced with the future, from the "path of synodality", and how to do so in dialogue with and learning from the Amazon Synod, given that it is a paradigmatic synod in the history of the Church. Its objective is to make explicit, in a systematic way, such thinking and its respective categories. The method investigates what thinking is and how thinking involves turning to the foundations of Theology. Finally, as a result, it finds that the category of synodality is relevant in the face of the challenges of the 21st Century, as it is a category that is enriched in its understanding: in addition to referring to modes of ecclesial participation, it also evokes a hermeneutical key capable of putting other dimensions and levels of reality into dialogue and associating them with the understanding of the foundations of Theology. The problem of admission, permanence and the articulation of levels occupies a central place in the Universidad Nacional del Litoral (UNL). In this direction, it is interesting to be able to identify the educational practices that are carried out in our context to define guidelines that regulate academic activities. The objective pursued in this work is to document and describe university educational practices in scientific and technological careers during the virtualization process, as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, in the area of General and Inorganic Chemistry for the follow-up of cohorts of the Faculty of Biochemistry and Cs. Biological. In particular, the articulation of synchronicity and asynchronicity, the incorporation of various technological resources for problem solving and experimental activities were highlighted. The creation of professional learning pathways in the field of early childhood development (ECD) is currently a key policy priority in South Africa, especially as research has indicated the critical need that exists for investment in ECD practitioners to resolve previous educational inequalities and poor throughput rates in formal schooling. The option of recognition of prior learning (RPL) often provides the only route into post-school studies for educators in this historically marginalised sector to enable them to pursue formal qualifications. The barriers faced by mature females, who constitute a large proportion of ECD practitioners, include mismatches between occupational and discipline-based qualifications and a lack of understanding of the non-traditional routes into higher education. This article reports on an investigation into the experiences of a sample of mature women who attempted to access higher education with non-traditional qualifications. Using the lens of capabilities theory, we demonstrate the significant efforts made by these ECD practitioners to achieve their goals of personal and economic freedom by accessing further training and higher education through RPL. Population growth has been one of the most frequently mentioned causes to explain the overexploitation of natural resources and has been determinant of the current global condition, which is characterized by the increase in the volume of resources exploited, the total consumption of resources and the generation of waste and emissions (SDG, 2015). In this context, research is proposed, with the aim of reviewing and identifying the theoretical bases of the Circular Economy and sustainable development (GRI Standards) to design a qualitative measurement database that allows diagnosing and articulating initiatives, practices, actions and strategies that are being developed and implemented in companies, aimed at achieving the transition to the paradigm of the circular economy, since this represents an opportunity to organize production and consumption in the global economy, as it promotes the four Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover. The design of the research is in the first stage, of documentary type with descriptive and exploratory scope. It should be noted that various national and international databases were consulted for the search and analysis of information. In the second stage, the design of the database is proposed through a technical methodology, to be used as a tool for sustainability-oriented companies. The preliminary conclusions of this study show how the circular economy is articulated with the dimensions of sustainable development: the economic, social and environmental dimensions of the (UN (2015). It is intended that companies implement the database, as a sustainability tool aligned with the circular economy and Sustainable Development (UN, 2015) and represents an opportunity to give the planet a break. Adam Zagajewski’s essays on poets and poetry are interpreted here in the context of scholarly debates about the specificities of mystical experience. From the four criteria the great American philosopher and psychologist William James developed in 1902, “transiency” and “passivity” can be brought together as indicators of what I call the inescapability of mystical experience, while the two other criteria, namely “ineffability” and “noetic quality”, can be treated as what I call the “paradox of articulation”. The essay demonstrates how profound the reflections of the Polish poet on these questions are, how they are related to his views about the possibilities of contemplation and art in view of the history of violence of the 20th century and what they mean for the future of religion. The highly influential narrative of a world-historical process of ongoing “disenchantment” (Max Weber) loses much of its persuasiveness if these reflections are true. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper aims at providing an epistemic defense of democracy based on John Dewey's idea that democracies do not only find problems and provide solutions to them but they also articulate problems. According to this view, when citizens inquire about collective issues, they also partially shape them. This view contrasts with the standard account of democracy's epistemic defense, according to which democracy's is good at tracking and finding solutions that are independent of political will-formation and decision-making. It is also less vulnerable to the criticisms that have been raised against the standard account. To show this, the paper develops a theory of expressive domination and argues that problem-articulation works best when it is inclusive and domination-free. How are populist movements articulated in place, and what political tensions can arise when they mobilize across scales? Despite the historical significance of particular places for populist movements (e.g., countryside or city), much populist scholarship remains trapped in a national lens, and geographical analyses are only starting to take seriously place-based articulations. Drawing on Gillian Hart's Gramscian approach, we understand articulation as a dual process of cojoining and resignifying that unfolds through geographically situated practices and language. We extend this by paying attention to actors of populist mobilization, political parties, and social movements, examining their articulation of political subjectivities and antagonisms through place-based contexts, thus providing an analytical framework for studying populism. Considering the national-popular movement of Kirchnerism, our analysis unfolds through a relational comparison of two contrasting places in Argentina—its wealthy capital city and the impoverished province of Jujuy—moving dialectically across different scales, considering contradictions between local and national mobilizations of Kircherism while also contextualizing these in regional and global process. In so doing, we demonstrate that a geographically sensitive analysis of populist conjunctures provides insights into the success and failures of national popular movements. Specifically, place-based movements face dilemmas between gaining support and autonomy from national counterparts, whereas national popular movements both depend on and are threatened by local populist success. The purpose of the study was to investigate velopharyngeal timing in children with and without speech sound disorders (SSDs) of unknown etiology. Six preschool-aged children participated in the investigation. Three of the children had typically developing speech and language and three had SSDs of unknown etiology. Aerodynamic testing of the velopharyngeal mechanism was conducted during repetitions of the word “hamper” for six temporal variables. Two of the six temporal data points achieved statistical significance at the level of p < .05: duration of nasal airflow (p = .024) and start of oral pressure to end of oral pressure (p = .016). Per Cohen’s d, small effect sizes were noted for two variables, medium effect sizes were noted for one variable, and large effect sizes were noted for one variable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Speaking about crises and their forecasting is always a thankless task. On the one hand, the researcher will receive a lot of criticism from experts in crisis management, economists and analysts. On the other hand, it will find itself in the crossfire of colleagues from related sciences for appropriating and simplifying theories of social and political crises. The processes of digitalization and the emergence of media didactics have led to qualitative changes in the creation and distribution of textbooks, made school knowledge a favorable environment for the formation of future crises associated with contradictions in the interpretation of historical events, the role and place of the individual in history, the construction of conflicting visual images of countries and peoples. In this regard, studies of the monitoring and prognostic function of textbooks as sources of predicting conflicts acquire a new meaning.

The coordination of gestures in consonant clusters differs across languages and hence must be a learned aspect of linguistic knowledge. Precisely pinning down the coordination relation used in a particular language, or for a particular consonant cluster type, has been facilitated by recent research showing that coordination relations structure kinematic variation in unique ways. We apply these methods to a hitherto under-explored topic, the coordination of consonant clusters created via vowel deletion. Our case study involves fricative-fricative and fricative-stop consonant clusters resulting from the variable deletion of devoiced vowels in Tokyo Japanese. Examination of articulatory data obtained by Electromagnetic Articulography (EMA) show that some consonant clusters, i.e., fricative-stop clusters, show gestural reorganization whereas other cluster types, i.e., fricative-fricative sequences, behave as if a vowel remains in place, despite the fact that the tongue dorsum movement for the vowel is absent from the articulatory record. We discuss several theoretical possibilities to account for the differential effects of vowel deletion on gestural re-organization in these environments.

When speaking, we dynamically coordinate movements of our jaw, tongue, lips, and larynx. To investigate the neural mechanisms underlying articulation, we used direct cortical recordings from human sensorimotor cortex while participants spoke natural sentences that included sounds spanning the entire English phonetic inventory. We used deep neural networks to infer speakers' articulator movements from produced speech acoustics. Individual electrodes encoded a diversity of articulatory kinematic trajectories (AKTs), each revealing coordinated articulator movements toward specific vocal tract shapes. AKTs captured a wide range of movement types, yet they could be differentiated by the place of vocal tract constriction. Additionally, AKTs manifested out-and-back trajectories with harmonic oscillator dynamics. While AKTs were functionally stereotyped across different sentences, context-dependent encoding of preceding and following movements during production of the same phoneme demonstrated the cortical representation of coarticulation. Articulatory movements encoded in sensorimotor cortex give rise to the complex kinematics underlying continuous speech production. VIDEO ABSTRACT.

This study explored correlations between (a) measures of vocal tract anatomy and (b) measures of articulatory/linguistic contrasts in vowels and coronal fricatives. The data for the study come from the Wisconsin X-Ray MicroBeam Database (Westbury, 1994). The anatomical measures included vocal tract length, oral cavity length, palate size and shape, as well as measures of maximal tongue protrusion and jaw wagging amplitude. Measures of the articulatory vowel space included the range of x and y location at vowel midpoints for four pellets on the tongue, the interpolated highest point of the tongue, and the locations of pellets on the upper and lower lips and to the lower incisor. For each of these clouds of vowel midpoint measurements, the orientation of variation was also measured. For fricatives, measures of tongue advancement and tongue tip lowering were taken. The results showed that the articulatory vowel space was related to both the length of the vocal tract, and to the shape of the palate, while fricative variation was related to palate parameters alone. In simple correlations, the percentage of articulatory variance between segments that could be predicted by anatomical characteristics was modest; never more than 36% for vowels and 25% for fricatives. Canonical correlation analysis found two anatomical factors that predict articulatory patterns jointly in vowels and coronal fricatives. The first canonical variable found a relationship between vocal tract length/palate depth and vowel tongue vertical range and jaw motion. Talkers with long vocal tracts and deep palates showed large tongue vertical range and small jaw range. The second canonical variable found a relationship between palate depth and tongue tip raising in coronal fricatives. Talkers with more shallow palate tended to have a tongue-tip up posture in fricatives. Phonetic tagging for the XRMBDB is made publicly available by this project.

The public space of Latin American popular settlements is fundamentally the result of the social production of the habitat and, in some cases, of the intervention of public policies. In these contexts, the spaces of articulation between housing and the city are of special interest due to the variety of uses and functions that they are capable of harbor. Frequently, they are conceived as an extension of the home, blurring the boundaries between the public and private spheres of habitat. The article seeks to characterize, in an exploratory manner, the spaces of articulation between housing and the city in popular settlements, taking Villa 20 in Buenos Aires as a case study. This neighborhood has been going through, since 2016, a Comprehensive Re-urbanization Process (PIRU) carried out by the local State. Through a qualitative approach, based on documentary analysis and field observation, functions, uses and meanings of the spaces of articulation between housing and city are pointed out. Among the findings, it is corroborated that its organization has different characteristics from other urban spaces in the city, some elements to consider when intervening them from public policy are pointed out. This case study assesses how an Australian University used an online tool (WeChat) to support commencing online Chinese articulation students transition in their studies in response to COVID-19 border restrictions. It investigates how effectively the engagement initiatives met the students' needs and identify areas of improvement. The usage of an online tool allows staff and students to build a relationship and provided students with key information to manage their expectations. This article sets the gendered effects of low-wage, cross-border labor in Palestine within a global frame of uneven development. Drawing on fieldwork close to Checkpoint 300, between Bethlehem and Jerusalem, we first provide an account that centers Palestinian women's social reproduction as coconstitutive of male crossborder employment in the Israeli economy. Discussion then moves to consider gendered work in apartheidera South Africa with the intention not to draw analogies but to explore how labor articulation situated South Africa within the power geometries of globalization. Returning with these analytical tools, we undertake a relational comparison to reconsider the cross-border as a global space. Cutting-edge security technologies and migrants from Thailand are some of the new objects, ideas, and people that coalesce and reshape Palestinian domestic life. The gendered effects of social reproduction are thus connected to both Israel's military occupation and its location within global capitalism. The article makes three key contributions by (1) foregrounding women in discussion of cross-border labor, (2) explicating state-global relations in regimes of segregation, and (3) mobilizing relational comparison as a tool for understanding local exploitation within global structures. The effects of transcranial electrical stimulation (TES) of the brain on word learning were addressed in a large-scale study in 288 people. The study included a comprehensive assessment of the effects of TES in various conditions (implicit/explicit learning strategy, with/without articulation, anodic/cathodic stimulation, left/right hemisphere, and stimulation area (Broca/Wernicke and their homologs in the right hemisphere)). After 15 minutes of real or placebo stimulation, subjects were presented with eight new words with semantic binding, each 10 times. The latency of correct responses in the test task assessing the semantic correlation of the word and image was used as an indicator of the effectiveness of acquiring new words. The results showed a general non-specific acceleration of responses when real stimulation was used (as compared to placebo), independently of the conditions tested. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article presents the research results on the ways of articulation of undergraduate and postgraduate and its trajectory in Latin America in order to suggest operational elements that can smooth the transit. The research approach was a bibliographic review of the foundations and experiences related to the articulation of undergraduate and graduate programs in Colombia and Latin America, and a documentary study on normative frameworks and experiences in favor of this connection in Colombia. The study highlights the need to recognize collaborative strategies with a transdisciplinary and cross-cultural nature in search of solutions and articulations of the education levels, as well as to put pressure on the course structure still prevailing in the educational models of the country and the region. A system for the recognition of creations, obvious novelties, and good professional and organizational practices that can be incorporated into the curricula of higher education processes is required. The in‐out effect refers to the tendency that novel words whose consonants follow an inward‐wandering pattern (e.g., P‐T‐K) are rated more positively than stimuli whose consonants follow an outward‐wandering pattern (e.g., K‐T‐P). While this effect appears to be reliable, it is not yet clear to what extent it generalizes to existing words in a language. In two large‐scale studies, we sought to extend the in‐out effect from pseudowords to real words and from perception to production. In Study 1, we investigated whether previously collected affective ratings for English and Dutch words were more positive for inward‐wandering words and more negative for outward‐wandering words. No systematic relationship between wandering direction and affective valence was found. In Study 2, we investigated whether inward‐wandering words are more likely to occur in positive online consumer restaurant reviews written in English and Dutch, compared to negative reviews, and whether this association was stronger for food ratings than for decor ratings. Again, no systematic relationship between wandering direction and review rating emerged. We suggest that the affective states triggered by different consonantal wandering directions might be used as a cue for forming judgments in the absence of other information, but that wandering direction is too low in salience to drive the shape of words in the lexicon. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a non-invasive neuromodulation technique that can alter the state of the stimulated brain area and thereby affect neurocognitive processes and resulting behavioural performance. Previous studies using tDCS to address the language function have shown disparate results, particularly with respect to language learning and word acquisition. To fill this gap, this study aimed at systematically addressing the effects of tDCS of core left-hemispheric language cortices on the brain mechanisms underpinning two main neurocognitive strategies of word learning: implicit inference-based Fast Mapping (FM) and direct instruction-based Explicit Encoding (EE). Prior to a word-learning session, 160 healthy participants were given 15 min of either anodal or cathodal tDCS of Wernicke's or Broca's areas, or a control sham (placebo) stimulation, in a between-group design. Each participant then learned sixteen novel words (eight through FM and eight through EE) in a contextual word-picture association session. Moreover, these words were learnt either perceptually via auditory exposure combined with a graphical image of the novel object, or in an articulatory mode, where the participants additionally had to overtly articulate the novel items. These learning conditions were fully counterbalanced across participants, stimuli and tDCS groups. Learning outcomes were tested at both lexical and semantic levels using two tasks: recognition and word-picture matching. EE and FM conditions produced similar outcomes, indicating comparable efficiency of the respective learning strategies. At the same time, articulatory learning produced generally better results than non-articulatory exposure, yielding higher recognition accuracies and shorter latencies in both tasks. Crucially, real tDCS led to global outcome improvements, demonstrated by faster (compared to sham) reactions, as well as some accuracy changes. There was also evidence of more specific tDCS effects: better word-recognition accuracy for EE vs. FM following cathodal stimulation as well as more expressed improvements in recognition accuracy and reaction times for anodal Broca's and cathodal Wernicke's stimulation, particularly for unarticulated FM items. These learning mode-specific effects support the notion of partially distinct brain mechanisms underpinning these two learning strategies. Overall, numerically largest improvements were observed for anodal Broca's tDCS, whereas the least expressed benefits of tDCS for learning were measured after anodal Wernicke stimulation. Finally, we did not find any inhibitory effects of either tDCS polarity in any of the comparisons. The aim of the study is the evaluation of the occurrence of pathological changes in the upper respiratory tract, orthodontic disorders, as well as voice, speech and hearing abnormalities in an 11-year-old boy with CFC3 syndrome. The lack of detailed diagnostics of speech, voice and hearing disorders, as well as the degree of their severity was an inspiration to undertake research in this field. Pathological changes in face, oral cavity, upper respiratory tract (nose, nasopharynx, larynx), and hearing organ, as well as voice and speech quality, were assessed in an 11-year-old boy with CFC3 syndrome. Pathologies of the upper respiratory tract (adenoid hypertrophy, narrowing of the nasal passages) and laryngeal asymmetry were found without significant changes in voice quality in the acoustic examination, except for the voice timbre change confirmed in narrowband spectrography. Complex audiological assessment confirmed the existence of bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. Speech pathology assessment revealed abnormalities in the structure of articulation organ, its decreased motor efficiency, imprecision, reduced coordination, as well as the presence of autistic features. Exome sequencing showed the heterozygous variant c.371C>T (p.Pro124Leu) in the MAP2K1 gene, previously described as pathogenic, thus supporting a causative relevance. Phoniatric, audiological, orodental and speech problems should be considered as features of cardio-facio-cutaneous syndrome type 3 (CFC 3) phenotype due to a pathogenic variant in MAP2K1.Keywords: cardio-facio-cutaneous syndrome, hearing loss, voice disorders, articulation, MAP2K1

This research aims to analyze the level of articulation of Local Government Financial Statement (LKPD) and their effects on the quality of LKPD as a basis for local government economic decision making. Data sources used in this research are secondary data and primary data. Secondary data consisting of LKPD documents with Unqualified Opinion. These documents were obtained from the Indonesian Supreme Audit Institutions’s (BPK) Financial Audit Report (LHP) in 2018. Secondary data analysis is carried out using content analysis techniques. The analysis is carried out by comparing the numbers of LKPD based on the set of articulation criteria that were built based on Government Accounting Standards (SAP) and previous research. Primary data consist of semi-structured interviews with local governments which have an articulation rate of less than 100%. Analysis of primary data from interviews is using the Miles and Huberman’s model. Based on the analysis of 443 LKPD documents, it was found that 131 or 30% LKPD had an articulation rate of 100% and 312 or 70% LKPD had an articulation rate of less than 100%. The average level of articulation of LKPD in Indonesia is 83% with the lowest articulation rate of 54%. Based on the results of interview, show that articulation affects the quality of financial statement and influences economic decisions in the the budget preparation process with the function of LKPD as a comparison and prediction tool.
