In this study, we establish the presence of 24 aquatic beetle (Coleoptera: Polyphaga) species belonging to 13 genera and five families in Markazi Province of Central Iran. Specimens were collected between 2001 and 2005. Eleven species and four genera are recorded from Iran for the first time. The ecological significance of the new records is briefly discussed. .

Foram coletados 888 exemplares de Coleoptera aquáticos nos municípios de Manaus, Manacapuru e Presidente Figueiredo (AM), de fevereiro de 2000 a agosto de 2002, distribuídos em 12 famílias, 50 gêneros e 88 espécies ou morfoespécies. Novas ocorrências para o Brasil, incluem as seguintes espécies de Dytiscidae: Hydrodessus robinae, H. surinamensis, Hypodessus frustrator, Neobidessus confusus, N. spangleri e N. woodruffi. Os gêneros Agaporomorphus (Dytiscidae) e Pronoterus (Noteridae) são registrados pela primeira vez para o estado do Amazonas, assim como as espécies: P. punctipennis e Suphisellus nigrinus (Noteridae); Agaporomorphus grandisinuatus, Bidessonotus tibialis, Derovatellus lentus,Desmopachria nitida, Hydaticus xanthomelas, Laccophilus tarsalis, Liodessus affinis e Megadytes laevigatus (Dytiscidae). A família Dytiscidae foi a que apresentou maior riqueza, com 34 espécies, seguida de Hydrophilidae, com 20 e Noteridae, com 12 espécies. Os gêneros com maior número de espécies foram Gyretes (Gyrinidae) e Suphisellus (Noteridae) com 6 espécies, Copelatus (Dytiscidae) e Tropisternus (Hydrophilidae), com 5 espécies. In this work, 888 specimens of aquatic Coleoptera were collected in Manaus, Manacapuru and Presidente Figueiredo counties (AM), distributed in 12 families, 50 genera and 88 species or morphospecies. New occurrences in Brasil include the following species of Dytiscidae: Hydrodessus robinae, H. surinamensis, Hypodessus frustrator, Neobidessus confusus, N. spangleri and N. woodruffi. The genera Agaporomorphus (Dytiscidae) and Pronoterus (Noteridae) were reported for the first time in the State of Amazonas, as well as the species P. punctipennis and Suphisellus nigrinus (Noteridae); Agaporomorphus grandisinuatus, Bidessonotus tibialis, Derovatellus lentus,Desmopachria nitida, Hydaticus xanthomelas, Laccophilus tarsalis, Liodessus affinis and Megadytes laevigatus (Dytiscidae). The family Dytiscidae presented the highest richness, with 34 species, followed by Hydrophilidae, with 20 and Noteridae, with 12 espécies. The genera with greatest number of species were Gyretes (Gyrinidae) and Suphisellus (Noteridae) with 6 species, Copelatus (Dytiscidae) and Tropisternus (Hydrophilidae) with 5 species.

The tribe Berosini (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae) is represented in South America by the genera Berosus Leach, Hemiosus Sharp and Derallus Sharp. Distributional data from new material and from previous publications are given and a classification of the type of distribution is proposed. Few species are strictly Neotropical. Most species are associated with one or more of the main river systems (Paraguay-Paraná-Plata, Amazonas, Orinoco, Saõ Francisco and Desaguadero-Colorado-Negro), with latitudinal influence in the Paraná-Plata. Species of Berosus and Derallus are mostly distributed along the rivers, those of Hemiosus are located on sandy or (rarely) gravelly substrates, with influence of the origin of sediments (Andean, Brasilia shield, etc.). La tribu Berosini (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae) está representada en América del Sur por los géneros Berosus Leach, Hemiosus Sharp y Derallus Sharp. Se presentan datos de material nuevo y de publicaciones precedentes y se propone una clasificación de los tipos de distribuciones. Pocas especies son estrictamente neotropicales. La mayoría de ellas están asociadas con una o más de las grandes cuencas fluviales (Paraguay-Paraná-Plata, Amazonas, Orinoco, Saõ Francisco y Desaguadero-Colorado-Negro), con influencia latitudinal en el Paraná-Plata. Las especies de Berosus y Derallus se distribuyen principalmente a lo largo de los ríos, las de Hemiosus se localizan sobre sustratos arenosos o (raramente) de grava, con influencia del origen de los sedimentos (andinos, macizo de Brasilia, etc.). A new species, Enochrus (Methydrus) limbourgi sp. n., is described from Jiangxi Province, Southeast China, and illustrated. Subgenus Enochrus s. str. Thomson, 1859 is recorded for the first time in China, based on the record of Enochrus (s. str.) melanocephalus (Olivier, 1792) from Inner Mongolia. The male of Enochrus (Hydatotrephis) liangi Jia & Zhao, 2007 is described for the first time.

Phylogenetic relationships within Hydrophilidae were examined by analyses of separate and combined nuclear and mitochondrial markers (28S rRNA, 18S rRNA, 16S rRNA, 12S rRNA, COI and COII genes). The preferred (Bayesian) tree topology suggests a sister group relationship between Spercheidae and Hydrophilidae, supporting the ‘hydrophilid lineage’ ; Epimetopidae are placed on the base of the ‘helophorid branch’, the monophyly of Sphaeridiinae is highly supported, nested deeply within Hydrophilidae closest to Enochrus, making Hydrophilinae and Acidocerini paraphyletic ; Hydrobius appears as sister taxon to (Hydrochara + Hydrophilus) without a closer relationship to Acidocerini ; the hydrophiloid–histeroid sister group relationship is confirmed. The topology of several taxa remains contradictory, and requires further investigations with a larger taxon sampling and additional molecular markers.

The larval morphology of Amphiops mater mater Sharp, 1873 is described, including chaetotaxy and morphological transformation between instars. Among genera of the family Hydrophilidae, the larvae of Amphiops Erichson, 1843 may be distinguished by the following combination of characters: coronal line present; clypeolabrum almost symmetrical; mandibles symmetrical and with three inner teeth; dorsal surface of palpomere 1 completely sclerotized; mentum with strongly projecting and sharply pointed anterior corners; ligula absent; spiracular atrium well developed. Several primary sensilla are absent from all instars of A. mater mater, in contrast to the stable chaetotaxy in the majority of Hydrophilidae species studied in detail to date.

Se registra por primera vez Enochrus (Lumetus) hamiltoni (Coleoptera, Hydrophilidae) para la isla de Cuba. Este coleóptero acuático ha sido recolectado en dos localidades costeras del sudeste de la isla en dos sistemas de lagunas temporales de aguas claras, no eutrofizadas, con fondo lodoso y expuestas permanentemente al sol. Algunos ejemplares se colectaron asociados a vegetación, tanto sumergida como emergente de los márgenes de estas lagunas. Enochrus (Lumetus) hamiltoni (Coleoptera, Hydrophilidae) is recorded for the first time from the island of Cuba. This aquatic beetle has been collected in two coastal localities from the southeast of the island in two brackish systems of temporal ponds, non eutrophic, with muddy bottoms and permanent exposure to the sun. Some specimens were collected associated with the vegetation, both emergent and submergent, at the margins of these ponds.

WOS: 000363996800005, In this study, it was attempted to describe 47 species which were determined to belong to the Coleoptera: Adephaga. Of all these species, 4 were from Haliplidae, one species was from Noteridae, and 42 species were from Dytiscidae. Six of them were new records for the Black Sea Region of Turkey (Graptodytes veterator behningi, Herophydrus musicus, Hydroporus askalensis, Hygrotus enneagrammus, H. ahmeti, H. marklini) and (Herophydrus musicus, Hygrotus ahmeti, H. enneagrammus and H. marklini) also second record for Turkey. And with this study 10 species for Amasya, 18 species for Bayburt, 3 species for corum, 26 species for Giresun, 9 species for Gumushane, 19 species for Ordu, 4 species for Samsun, 27 species for Tokat and 7 species for Trabzon provinces were recorded first time and distributions in Turkey of these newly recorded species are presented.
