174. Urinary microbiota shift is associated with a decline in renal function in the aging kidney

Abstract

Background The kidney is an important organ for maintaining homeostasis. Kidney-specific senescence plays an important role in aging; however, the mechanism underlying this process is still unclear. We conducted an analysis of renal function impairment in a group of healthy volunteers with a wide range of ages. The aims of this study were to investigate the age profile of kidney-specific aging, the characteristics of symbiotic microorganisms in urine and the aging mechanism related to these microorganisms. Results A total of 3342 adults aged 20 to 104 were included in the study. Serum creatinine, urea nitrogen, and glomerular filtration rate were evaluated by blood biochemical analysis to determine a typical age range of 50–65 years for abrupt changes in renal function. Urinary microbiota 16S rDNA sequencing was performed on 74 subjects from a distribution based on quartiles of renal function among cohort members in the age range of 50–65 years. Analysis of the sequencing results revealed significant differences between the flora in males and females, and significant changes in urinary flora with renal aging. Correlation analysis combined with clinical indicators revealed that the dominant microbiota in female subjects in the quartile of poorest renal function was closely associated with altered electrolyte metabolism, inflammatory activation and positive balance of energy metabolism during renal aging. In particular, our analysis suggests that Streptococcus plays an important role. Conclusions The age at which early impairment of renal function occurs was confirmed and a multidimensional analysis revealed that changes in urinary commensal bacteria, especially Streptococcus, are closely associated with renal aging.

Abstract

The multi-power coupling transmission system (MPCTS) is an electromechanical coupling system, which typically use two or more induction motors to provide its driving torque. It is used in various industrial applications, such as cutter header driving systems of tunnel boring machinery, and yaw systems of wind turbines. In practical engineering applications, the loads borne by the MPCTS are very complex, including both torque loads and non-torque loads. Its dynamic characteristics are affected by both the gear transmission system and the drive motors. For this study, an electromechanical coupling dynamic model of the MPCTS, coupled with a gear transmission system, induction motor, and non-torque load, was constructed to analyze its dynamic characteristics under a non-torque load condition. The results showed increased offsets from the gear vibration equilibrium position, as well as deterioration in system load-sharing characteristics from increases in non-torque load and rotational speed. However, the influence of the non-torque load was significantly greater than that of the rotational speed.

Our study analyzed the levels of KIM-1 in the healthy population of different ages to explore the correlation between KIM-1 and age. Moreover, we constructed a model to predict kidney age.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted by Huashan Hospital, Shanghai, China, between April 2020 and December 2020. KIM-1 and other kidney biomarkers were measured in 176 healthy individuals ranging from 26 to 91 years old. Statistical correlated analyses for urinary KIM-1, creatinine (uCREA), potassium (K), sodium (Na) and chlorine (Cl), plasmic renin, angiotensin-2 (AngII) and aldosterone (ALD), and serum microalbuminuria (MALB), β 2-microglobulin (B2MG), cystatin C (CYSC), urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine (CREA), and glucose (GLU) were performed to assess the correlation between age and kidney biomarkers. All variables were selected as independent variables for the prediction of age by multiple linear regression.Results: KIM-1 positively correlated with age in kidney healthy people (r = 0.41, p < 0.05), whether among females (r = 0.51, p < 0.05) or males (r = 0.27, p < 0.05). 186. Childhood Physical and Sexual Abuse in China

Abstract

In order to determine the prevalence and characteristics of childhood physical and sexual abuse in China, the authors conducted a survey in Shanghai. The Dissociative Disorders Interview Schedule was administered to 423 inpatients and 304 outpatients at Shanghai Mental Health Center, and to a non-clinical sample of 618 workers at a clothing factory. The results were compared to a previous sample of 502 respondents in the general population in Winnipeg, Canada. The identities of the perpetrators of physical and sexual abuse, and the types of sexual abuse reported were similar in the two countries; however, the rates of reported abuse were lower in China. Childhood sexual abuse appears to be far less common in the general population in Canada than in China. (Contains 4 tables.)

187. Association of cognitive function and hypoperfusion in Moyamoya disease patients without stroke.

Abstract

The influence of hypoperfusion on cognition in patients with Moyamoya disease (MMD) is unclear. This study investigated cognitive function changes in MMD patients without stroke and illustrated the relationship between cognitive impairment and hypoperfusion. We prospectively performed a structured battery of seven neurocognitive tests on 115 adult MMD patients without stroke and 82 healthy controls. Hemodynamic assessment was performed using dynamic susceptibility contrast-enhanced MRI. The best subset regression (BSR) strategy was used to identify risk factors. Global cognition (MoCA), speed of information processing (TMT-A), executive function (TMT-B), visuospatial function (CDT), and verbal memory (CAVLT) were significantly poorer in MMD patients without stroke than in healthy controls. The TMT-B score significantly correlated with cerebral blood flow (CBF) in the bilateral lateral frontal lobes, centrum semiovale, and temporal lobes. The TMT-A and CAVLT scores significantly correlated with CBF in the left centrum semiovale (L-CSO) and temporal lobes. According to the BSR results, age, education, white matter lesions, and hypoperfusion of the L-CSO were risk factors for cognitive impairment. Hypoperfusion leads to multiple cognitive impairments in MMD patients without stroke. The perfusion of particular areas may help evaluate the cognitive function of MMD patients and guide therapeutic strategies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
