Abstract

As an application of the Internet of Things, the connected vehicle system (CVS) plays an important role in smart city. While the vehicles in a CVS inevitably suffer with environmental noise interference, which affect the stability of the whole system. So in this paper, the consensus of autonomous CVS is researched in the presence of stochastic multiplicative noise. The parameter restriction method is first proposed which achieves the control requirements by restricting the parameters of the designed control protocol. Then we optimize this method so that it can resist the noise with slightly larger intensity. However, this method has limited ability to resist noise of large intensity. Next we propose another method that is called the interaction network-based method, which can ensure the convergence of the system through introducing a virtual system that interacts with the original CVS. By selecting parameters of the interaction network properly, such method has a good performance in resisting larger intensity noise. In the mentioned two methods, the convergent results are derived to ensure the stability of the platoon by using the stochastic differential equation(SDE). Finally, the validity of the proposed methods is verified in the designed simulations.

Abstract

Many physical, chemical, and biological processes happen in liquid-vapor interface and are profoundly influenced with the local microstructures. In contrast to the liquid bulk, molecular orientation is the remarkable one of asymmetric structural features of the interface. Here we report an experimental method, namely, electron-impact time-delayed mass spectrometry and give a brief review about our recent progresses. This brand-new method not only enables us to have more insights into the interfacial structures, as done with small-angle X-ray and neutron scatterings and vibrational sum frequency generation spectroscopy, but also provides opportunity to explore the electron-driven chemical reactions therein.

Abstract

A remote carbamate-directed benzylic C–H imidation at room temperature with N-fluorobenzenesulfonimide (NFSI) through synergetic CuCl and nitroxyl radical 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidinyloxy (TEMPO) catalysed radical relay, as well as tandem benzylic imidation–alkoxylation and imidation–arylation via C(sp3)–N cleavage without isolation of the imidation products, is achieved, providing a facile and efficient strategy for diversified construction of C(sp3)–N, C(sp3)–O and C(sp3)–C(sp2) bonds through C(sp3)–H cleavage under mild conditions. Probable mechanisms are proposed according to the results of control experiments, and the carbamate directing group is proved to be crucial to both the imidation and the alkoxylation/arylation processes. Applications of these tandem reactions in the preparation of key intermediates for the synthesis of bioactive molecules are also demonstrated.

155. Amelioration of systemic antitumor immune responses in cocktail therapy by immunomodulatory nanozymes

Abstract

Nanozymes that mimic natural enzyme–like activities have gradually emerged in cancer therapy. To overcome the bottlenecks of single-mode nanozymes, including “off-target” toxicity and ineffectiveness toward metastatic cancers, we designed magnetic nanoparticle–based multifunctional visualized immunomodulatory nanozymes. Besides the partial initiation of the prime immune response by intrinsic immunogenicity, as a smart drug delivery system with a temperature- and pH-sensitive dual response to the tumor microenvironment, these nanozymes released immune agonists to boost enhanced systemic immune response, eventually ameliorating the cancer immune microenvironment through many aspects: activating dendritic cells, improving the function of CD8 + T cells, and decreasing the population of myeloid-derived suppressor cells, which inhibited both primary and metastatic cancers. Mechanistically, these nanozymes regulated the reactive oxygen species–related Akt signaling pathway and consequently activated cell apoptosis–related signaling pathways, which provided a deeper understanding of the synergistic mechanism of multifunctional nanozymes. Our findings offer a promising imaging-guided cocktail therapy strategy through immunomodulatory nanozymes.

156. The cognitive mechanisms of state transformation during the multi-state maintenance of visual working memory

Abstract

Visual working memory (VWM) system serves as a cornerstone for high-level cognition. The state-based models of working memory delineated a hierarchy of functional states. Memory representations in the passive state are robustly maintained while the active representations were effectively processed at the same time. The memory representations are dynamically transferred between the two states according to task demands; however, it was still unclear how the state transformation process implemented to achieve a perfect storage-dissociation. To explore the property of transformation process, we adopted a sequential presentation paradigm where two memory arrays were presented sequentially; that effectively directs memory items for retention in the two distinct states. We modulated the temporal context concerned with the state transformation process, presentation time of the second array and retention interval between memory arrays. These results indicated that state transformation reflected a consolidation process of memory representations from the active into the passive state; this transformation process is subject to cognitive control. Moreover, we found that sufficient temporal context facilitated a smooth state transformation, thus minimizing the memory loss. These findings lead to a further understanding for the storage mechanism of working memory representations during the dynamic processing.

157. Comparative proteomic analysis of mild and severe endometritis determined by LC-MS/MS

Abstract

Xinong Saanen goats are among the most common dairy goats in China and serve as major sources of milk in the Chinese dairy industry. Escherichia coli is a Gram-negative bacterium frequently implicated in uterine diseases. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is a component of the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria and is involved in pathogenic processes that lead to post-partum metritis and endometritis in dairy goats. After binding to toll-like receptor 4, LPS induces reactions in the endometrium, leading to acute or chronic inflammation, which impairs reproductive function. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of LPS on goat endometrial epithelial cells (gEECs) and the changes that occur in response to LPS. The proteomic map of gEECs exposed to different concentrations of LPS was studied using unlabeled liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry. A total of 1178 proteins were identified in all samples, and 13 differentially expressed proteins were subjected to quantitative and gene ontology functional annotation analyses. In conclusion, this study shows that specific proteins expressed in the goat uterus are altered according to the concentration of LPS.

Abstract

Background Despite the increasing research on low back pain, the bibliometric literature in the field of low back pain is limited. The aim of this study was to perform a bibliometric and visualization analysis of low back pain. Methods The authors searched the Web of Science database to extract publications regarding low back pain in the last 22 years. A total of 12,201 publications were eligible. We classified and analyzed publications such as total citations, average citations per item, H-index, research types, countries/regions, institutions and journals by using standard bibliometric indicators. Bibliometric methods and tools were used to explore the trends of low back pain research. Results Over the past 22 years, the number of publications on low back pain in the world had continually remained a increasing trend. Regional differences existed in the research of low back pain and developed countries played a leading role in the research. Research institutions and researchers have successively invested in the research of low back pain. However, there were limitations to the present study that should be noted that the study was relatively scattered and a systematic summary of the trends and characteristics was lacking. Visualization analysis provides valuable information for researchers to identify new perspectives on potential collaborators and cooperative institutions, which promote indirect cooperation. Besides, the most burst keywords were “primary-care”, “lumbar spine” and “disability”. Conclusion This study provided a number of important insights into the global research trends and current status related to low back pain which is helpful for clinicians, researchers and policy makers to understand the research field and predict its dynamic directions. Our article could be used for quantify and academic publications about low back pain in order to obtain an overview of the given field of study and provide references and suggestions for the future work of low back pain.

Abstract

In order to reveal the propagation characteristics and hazards of a gas explosion in urban drainage pipeline, the dynamic evolution of a methane deflagration in a closed water-containing pipeline was numerically simulated based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The interaction mechanism between water oscillation and flame development during the methane deflagration was such revealed. The results show that the presence of water accelerates the flame propagation in the forward accelerating stage. However, the water generally played a significant role in inhibiting the flame propagation because of its cooling and blocking effects. And the flame acceleration may be enhanced with the water present if a longer tube is employed. The shear force generated by the compression wave acting on the stagnant water surface provides the most primitive power for the movement of water, which creates ripples in the calm water. The obstacles and the reciprocating motion of the compression wave make the water ripple and evolve into lifting thin water columns. The shearing effect of high-speed gas flow evolves the water columns into discrete water droplets. This evolution process of the water body increases the contact area between water and flame, thus blocking the transfer of heat and the expansion wave, inhibiting the self-sustained flame propagation, leading to its gradual extinction.

Abstract

To analyze the response of float glass under explosion load, the model was developed by the method of FEM simulation combined with stress theory. The numerical simulation results show that the stress caused by the blast wave on the center of the glass panel is continuous, while the stress around the glass is instantaneous. The displacement on both sides of the glass is larger than that at the center and at the four corners of the glass. The effective stress at the center of the glass is 86.08 MPa by numerical simulation. However, the effective stress at the center of the glass is 87.75 MPa by theoretical calculation. The error rate between the simulation result and the theoretical result is only 1.90%. Therefore, it is proved that the theoretical expressions in this paper are reliable for calculating the effective stress of single float glass under explosion load.

Abstract

Killing tumor cells with a visualized system is a promising strategy in tumor therapy to achieve minimal side effects and high efficiency. Herein, a theranostic nanomedicine (AuNCs-Pt) is developed based on nanocarrier gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) with bifunctions of both NIR-I/NIR-II imaging and glutathione-scavenging abilities. AuNCs-Pt possesses NIR-II imaging capability on a fatal high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) model in the deep abdomen, thus facilitating it to be a promising tool for monitoring platinum transportation. Meanwhile, AuNCs-Pt depletes intracellular glutathione to minimize platinum detoxification, effectively maximizing the chemotherapeutic efficacy of platinum. AuNCs-Pt is used to eradicate the tumor burden in this study on a HGSOC model and a patient-derived tumor xenograft model of hepatocellular carcinoma, suggesting great potential for clinical visualized therapy and platinum drug sensitization.

Abstract

Although a considerable literature has grown up around the interactions between emotional state and visual working memory (VWM) performance, the mechanism underlying the impact of the negative emotional state on VWM remains unclear. The present study aimed to test whether the influence of emotional state is related to the early phase or late phase of VWM consolidation process. Across three experiments, we found that the negative emotional state did not affect VWM performance when the presentation time of stimuli was short. However, when the presentation time was long, the negative emotional state increased the VWM precision and reduced the VWM number. According to the two-phase model proposed by Ye et al. (2017. A two-phase model of resource allocation in visual working memory. Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and Cognition, 43(10), 1557-1566. doi: 10.1037/xlm0000376), the results suggested that negative emotional state could affect the late phase of resource allocation in VWM consolidation process, but it has no impact on the early consolidation phase. The findings from this study make important contributions to the current literature regarding the emotional modulation of VWM.

166. Energy and Vibration Absorption Characteristics of Damping Holes under Explosion Dynamic Loading

Abstract

There are usually many buildings near the subway. In tunnel construction, the vibration caused by explosion affects the structure of buildings. The vibration and energy absorption characteristics of damping holes caused by tunnel blasting are investigated under explosion dynamic loading, experimentally and numerically. This paper, taking Yan'an Third Road Station as a case, verified the effectiveness of the damping hole on the vibration reduction of the ground building based on the simulation and experiment. Furthermore, the article examines the effect of distance between the damping hole and charging holes, diameters of the damping hole, and material of the medium on the damping performance. The results show that an increase in diameter improves the energy and vibration absorption performances of the damping hole better than a decrease in distance. In addition, damping performance in gas and liquid medium is better than that in solid medium. The optimum scheme for vibration and energy absorption under extreme conditions of tunnel blasting is to arrange an 80 mm damping hole above the charging holes, and the distance between the damping hole and the center axle wire of the two charging holes is 0.2 m. By using this scheme, the vibration and energy absorption characteristics of damping holes are better than that of other scheme: the damping efficiency is the highest, which is 10.83%, and the pressure-relief efficiency is 10.48%. Furthermore, the medium materials of the damping hole are preferably air or water. Finally, the tunnel excavation contour line is smooth by applying this method. It is concluded that if the damping system is developed with proper design guidelines, then it may reduce the transmission of energy and vibration with effective protection of ground buildings.

Abstract

Poly(ethylene glycol) passivated graphene quantum dots (PEG-GQDs) were synthesized based on a green and effective strategy of the hydrothermal treatment of cane molasses. The prepared PEG-GQDs, with an average size of 2.5 nm, exhibit a brighter blue fluorescence and a higher quantum yield (QY) (up to approximately 21.32%) than the QY of GQDs without surface passivation (QY = 10.44%). The PEG-GQDs can be used to detect and quantify paramagnetic transition-metal ions including Fe3+, Cu2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Pb2+, and Mn2+. In the case of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) solution as a masking agent, Fe3+ ions can be well selectively determined in a transition-metal ion mixture, following the lowest limit of detection (LOD) of 5.77 μM. The quenching mechanism of Fe3+ on PEG-GQDs belongs to dynamic quenching. Furthermore, Fe3+ in human serum can be successfully detected by the PEG-GQDs, indicating that the green prepared PEG-GQDs can be applied as a promising candidate for the selective detection of Fe3+ in clinics.

Abstract

This paper investigates the consensus problems of the third-order discrete-time Connected Vehicle Systems (CVSs) under cyber-attacks. First, the necessary and sufficient conditions for consensus of third-order discrete-time CVSs are derived in the absence of attacks by using algebraic graph and matrix theory. Then the interaction network framework between the original CVSs in the vehicle platoon layer and a virtual system in the hidden layer is established to resist cyber-attacks. Since sufficiently large attacks can be excluded from CVSs through a threshold defense mechanism, such potential attacks considered are bounded and generated by any linear or non-linear finite L2-gain exogenous dynamics system. It is proved that the stability of CVSs can be ensured and the state errors converge to a bounded range whether the attacks exist only in the vehicle platoon layer or in the overall systems (including the vehicle platoon layer and the hidden layer) by using the Lyapunov stability method. Finally, a simulation example containing several scenarios demonstrates the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed methods.

169. Investigation of light-matter interaction in single vertical nanowires in ordered nanowire arrays

Abstract

Quasi one-dimensional semiconductor nanowires (NWs) in either arrays or single free-standing forms have shown unique optical properties (i.e., light absorption and emission) differently from their thin film or bulk counterparts, presenting new opportunities for achieving enhanced performance and/or functionalities for optoelectronic device applications. However, there is still a lack of understanding of the absorption properties of vertically standing single NWs within an array environment with light coupling from neighboring NWs within certain distances, due to the challenges in fabrication of such devices. In this article, we present a new approach to fabricate single vertically standing NW photodetectors from an ordered InP NW arrays using the focused ion beam technique, to allow direct measurements of optical and electrical properties of single NWs standing in an array. The light-matter interaction and photodetector performance are investigated using both experimental and theoretical methods. The consistent photocurrent and simulated absorption mapping results reveal that the light absorption and thus photoresponse of single NWs are strongly affected by the NW array geometry and related light coupling from their surrounding dielectric environment, due to the large absorption cross section and/or strong light interaction. While the highest light concentration factor (~ 19.64) was obtained from the NW in an array with a pitch of 1.5 µm, the higher responsivity per unit cell (equivalent to NW array responsivity) of a single standing NW photodetector was achieved in an array with a pitch of 0.8 µm, highlighting the importance of array design for practical applications. The insight from our study can provide important guidance to evaluate and optimize the device design of NW arrays for a wide range of optoelectronic device applications.

Abstract

Visual working memory (VWM) performance can be improved by retrospectively cueing an item. The validity of retro-cues has an impact on the mechanisms underlying the retro-cue effect, but how non-cued representations are handled under different retro-cue validity conditions is not yet clear. Here, we used electroencephalograms to investigate whether retro-cue validity can affect the fate of non-cued representations in VWM. The participants were required to perform a change-detection task using a retro-cue with 80% or 20% validity. Contralateral delay activity and the lateralized alpha power were used to assess memory storage and selective attention, respectively. The retro-cue could redirect selective attention to the cued item under both validity conditions; however, the participants maintained the non-cued representations under the low-validity condition but dropped them from VWM under the high-validity condition. These results suggest that the maintenance of non-cued representations in VWM is affected by the expectation of cue validity and may be partially strategically driven. peerReviewed

Abstract

In the vibration detection of multi-stage gear transmission, the gear ratio has a regular influence on its vibration characteristics. To explore this phenomenon, this paper presents the phase configuration method of the multi-stage gear transmission. The complete mesh phasing space based on the system gear ratio and the phase between each stage is derived. Taking The two-parallel shaft gear transmission system as an example, A nonlinear dynamic model is established. The influence of phase configuration on the vibration characteristics is analyzed in detail. By means of the numerical calculation method, the vibration equation is solved for the gear system, and the varying regularity of the optimal phase angle of the vibration characteristics at different mesh frequency was found. Finally, it reveals the influence of different gear ratios on the vibration characteristics of multi-stage gear transmission.

Abstract

Pyrroles and their benzo derivatives, particularly indoles, are among the most studied heteroarenes which attracted continuous or even constantly growing interests among organic chemists and pharmacists. Based on massive publications regarding novel organic synthetic strategies on the transformations of pyrrole and indole during the past decade, this article will first discuss reactivities on the nitrogen atom of pyrrole and indole, including N-acylation, N-alkylation, N-allylation, N-alkenylation and N-arylation. Then, reactions at C2/C5 of pyrrole with a series of double bonds, triple bonds or aliphatic compounds will be introduced to exhibit the reactivities at these sites, followed by reactivities at C3/C4 of pyrrole, especially regioselective reactions at C3/C4 over C2/C5. Subsequently, miscellaneous nucleophilic additions, C H functionalizations and dearomative reactions at C2/C3 of indole will be systematically discussed. Owing to recent tremendous development in organometallic chemistry and precise activation of C H bond, significant progress in regioselective C H functionalization on the fused benzene ring of indole will also be reviewed. In order to gain a better understanding about the reactivities of pyrrole and their benzo derivatives for prospective studies, this article will pay more attention on the comprehension of mechanism that lies behind each type of transformations to explain their reactivities and selectivities.

Abstract

The Cherenkov radiation induced by megavolt X-ray beams of a medical linear accelerator is highly intense in blue and ultraviolet lights. This poses a challenge for in vivo imaging, which favors longer wavelengths. However, using quantum dots with a large Stokes shift, we converted the Cherenkov photons to fluorescent photons in the second near-infrared (NIR-II) window. A system was designed to provide shielding for the NIR-II camera, and high quality NIR-II CELI signal was acquired. The NIR-II CELI of X-ray beams was shown at various depths, and the condition to trigger it was also studied. Animal experiments showed this technique could visualize the delivery of X-ray radiation in mice qualitatively. We concluded that CELI induced by megavolt X-ray beams in the NIR-II window possesses a great potential as a quality control tool in radiotherapy.

Abstract

Zinc-air batteries with high theoretical energy density have gained tremendous research interest as one of the candidate energy storage devices for flexible and portable electronic devices. Improving the performance of solid-state batteries (such as work stability, service life, etc.) has become a significant problem at present, and the choice of the ideal flexible solid electrolyte material as a “bridge” plays a vital role in flexible batteries. In this work, a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-based cellulose composite hydrogel electrolyte (HGE) was synthesized by carboxyl modified nanocellulose (C-CNFs), and the optimum adding amount of C-CNFs was screened. The PVA-based cellulose composite HGE had excellent environmental stability and high ion migration efficiency. After standing and full exposure for 48 h at room temperature, the mass loss was only 21.4%, and the initial ion conductivity reaches 3.12 × 10−1S·cm−1. In addition, the composite HGE had a specific improvement in thermal stability and tensile mechanical properties. The assembled flexible zinc-air battery (F-ZAB) showed excellent cycle life and discharge capacity. What's more, the F-ZAB can work continuously and stably at a bending angle of 180° with high flexibility and safety.

184. Identification of the Key Serum Biomarkers to Diagnose and Predict Metastasis of Osteosarcoma Based on the Analysis of Immune Cell Infiltration Characteristics

Abstract

Background: The potential functions of circular RNAs (circRNAs) and micro RNAs (miRNAs) in osteosarcoma (OS) have not been fully elucidated. Especially, the behavior and mechanism of immune responses in OS development and progression have not been fully demonstrated. It was reported that circRNAs and miRNAs can serve as biomarkers for the diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy of many cancers. This study aimed to identify novel key serum biomarkers to diagnose and predict metastasis of OS based on the analysis of immune cell infiltration characteristics.Methods: The differentially-expressed circRNAs (DEcircRNAs), differentially-expressed miRNAs (DEmiRNAs),and differentially-expressed mRNAs (DEmRNAs) of human OS were investigated based on the microarray data downloaded from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) datasets. Then, we analyzed immune characteristics pattern of tumor-infiltrating immune cells in OS. On this basis, we identified statistically-significant transcription factors and performed pathway enrichment analysis. Subsequently, we constructed protein-protein interaction (PPI) and competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks. Moreover, the biological characteristic of targets in ceRNA networks was proposed. Finally, the expression and diagnostic capability of these potential biomarkers from ceRNA network were confirmed by RT-qPCR in patients’ serum.Results: Seven differentially-expressed circRNAs (DEcircRNAs), 166 differentially-expressed miRNAs (DEmiRNAs) and 175 differentially-expressed mRNAs (DEmRNAs) were identified in total. The highest level of infiltration in OS patients were M0 macrophages, M2 macrophages and CD8+ T cells. Further, M0 macrophages and CD8+ T cells were showed the largest negative correlation coefficients. These significant immune characteristics pattern of tumor-infiltrating immune cells were revealed by the principal component analysis in OS. Moreover, we found 185 statistically-significant transcription factors in which the main significant molecules show the potential in immunotherapy of OS. Hsa-circ-0010220, hsa-miR-326, hsa-miR-338-3p, and FAM98A from ceRNA networks associated with immune cell infiltration were confirmed as the potential novel biomarkers for OS diagnosis, of which FAM98A could distinguish and predict metastasis. Most importantly, a novel diagnostic model consisting of the four promising biomarkers (hsa-circ-0010220, hsa-miR-326, hsa-miR-338-3p, and FAM98A) was highlighted with 0.928 AUC value.Conclusions: In summary, the potenial serum biomarkers to diagnose and predict metastasis of OS based on the analysis of immune cell infiltration characteristics were found, and a novel diagnostic model consisting of four promising serum biomarkers was proposed firstly. These results provided a new perspective for the immunotherapy of OS.

Moreover we performed pathway enrichment analysis, constructed protein–protein interaction networks, and devised competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks. Biological targets of the ceRNA networks were evaluated and potential OS biomarkers confirmed by RT-qPCR analysis of the patients’ serum. Results Seven differentially expressed circRNAs, 166 differentially expressed miRNAs, and 175 differentially expressed mRNAs were identified. An evaluation of cellular OS infiltration identified the highest level of infiltration by M0 macrophages, M2 macrophages, and CD8+ T cells, with M0 macrophages and CD8+ T cells as the most prominent. Significant patterns of tumor-infiltrating immune cells were identified by principal component analysis. Moreover, 185 statistically significant transcription factors were associated with OS. Further, in association with immune cell infiltration, hsa-circ-0010220, hsa-miR-326, hsa-miR-338-3p, and FAM98A were identified as potential novel biomarkers for OS diagnosis. Of these, FAM98A had the most promise as a diagnostic marker for OS and OS metastasis. Most importantly, a novel diagnostic model consisting of these four biomarkers (hsa-circ-0010220, hsa-miR-326, hsa-miR-338-3p, and FAM98A) was established with a 0.928 AUC value. Conclusions In summary, potential serum biomarkers for OS diagnosis and metastatic prediction were identified based on an analysis of immune cell infiltration. A novel diagnostic model consisting of these four promising serum biomarkers was established. Abstract

Using a dataset of 6.32 fb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} annihilation data collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4178 and 4226 MeV, we have measured the absolute branching fraction of the leptonic decay D_{s}^{+}→τ^{+}ν_{τ} via τ^{+}→e^{+}ν_{e}ν[over ¯]_{τ}, and find B_{D_{s}^{+}→τ^{+}ν_{τ}}=(5.27±0.10±0.12)×10^{-2}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The precision is improved by a factor of 2 compared to the previous best measurement. Combining with f_{D_{s}^{+}} from lattice quantum chromodynamics calculations or the |V_{cs}| from the CKMfitter group, we extract |V_{cs}|=0.978±0.009±0.012 and f_{D_{s}^{+}}=(251.1±2.4±3.0) MeV, respectively. Combining our result with the world averages of B_{D_{s}^{+}→τ^{+}ν_{τ}} and B_{D_{s}^{+}→μ^{+}ν_{μ}}, we obtain the ratio of the branching fractions B_{D_{s}^{+}→τ^{+}ν_{τ}}/B_{D_{s}^{+}→μ^{+}ν_{μ}}=9.72±0.37, which is consistent with the standard model prediction of lepton flavor universality.

Miniaturized light sources are important component for the development of on-chip optical networks. In this work, InGaAs/InP single quantum well (QW) nanowire array light emitting diodes (LEDs) with high uniformity have been demonstrated at telecommunication wavelength with high-speed modulation towards GHz-level operation.

Abstract

Journal of high energy physics 2021(10), 177 (2021). doi:10.1007/JHEP10(2021)177, Using a total of 5.25 fb$^{���1}$ of e$^{+}$e$^{���}$ collision data with center-of-mass energies from 4.236 to 4.600 GeV, we report the first observation of the process e$^{+}$e$^{���}$��� ����(2S) with a statistical significance of 4.9 standard deviations. The data sets were collected by the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. Abstract

Microplastics (MPs) are new environmental pollutants and have received widespread attention in recent years, but the toxicity of the MPs remains to be fully elucidated. To explore the effect of MPs on hepatotoxicity in mice and unravel the mechanism of pyroptosis and ferroptosis in the process of liver injury, we treated mice with 5.0 μm polypropylene microplastics (MPs) at 0.1, 0.5 and 1 mg/mL for 4 weeks. Results revealed that MPs could damage liver structure and function with broken and reduced mitochondrial cristae, as well as increased levels of aspartate minotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), AST/ALT, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). Treatment with MPs resulted in pyroptosis as evidenced by increasing expressions of interleukin IL-1β, IL-18. Additionally, MPs were shown to induce the NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasomes and apoptosis associated speck-like protein (ASC) containing a caspase recruitment domain activation in liver tissue, enabling activation of Caspase-1-dependent signaling pathway induced by inflammatory stimuli resulting from oxidative stress. In addition, the increase of malondialdehyde (MDA) and decrease of glutathione (GSH) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) in the liver indicated that MPs could induce oxidative damage. Moreover, MPs induced lipid peroxidation in the liver of mice could activate the expression of ferroptosis related proteins, including iron metabolism, such as transferrin receptor (TFRC) was active but ferritin heavy chain 1 (FTH1) was inhibited; amino acid metabolism, such as XCT system and glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) were inhibited; lipid metabolism, such as acyl-CoA synthetase long-chain family member 4 (ACSL4) was inhibited. Collectively, these findings evidenced that pyroptosis and ferroptosis occurred in MPs-induced liver injury accompanied by intense oxidative stress and inflammation.

Abstract

Using 2.93 fb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} collision data taken with the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV, the observation of the D^{0}→K_{1}(1270)^{-}e^{+}ν_{e} semileptonic decay is presented. The statistical significance of the decay D^{0}→K_{1}(1270)^{-}e^{+}ν_{e} is greater than 10σ. The branching fraction of D^{0}→K_{1}(1270)^{-}e^{+}ν_{e} is measured to be (1.09±0.13_{-0.16}^{+0.09}±0.12)×10^{-3}. Here, the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third originates from the assumed branching fraction of K_{1}(1270)^{-}→K^{-}π^{+}π^{-}. The fraction of longitudinal polarization in D^{0}→K_{1}(1270)^{-}e^{+}ν_{e} is determined for the first time to be 0.50±0.19_{stat}±0.08_{syst}.

Abstract

Highly sensitive photodetectors with single-photon level detection are one of the key components to a range of emerging technologies, in particular the ever-growing field of optical communication, remote sensing, and quantum computing. Currently, most of the single-photon detection technologies require external biasing at high voltages and/or cooling to low temperatures, posing great limitations for wider applications. Here, InP nanowire array photodetectors that can achieve single-photon level light detection at room temperature without an external bias are demonstrated. Top-down etched, heavily doped p-type InP nanowires and n-type aluminium-doped zinc oxide (AZO)/zinc oxide (ZnO) carrier-selective contact are used to form a radial p-n junction with a built-in electric field exceeding 3 × 105 V cm-1 at 0 V. The device exhibits broadband light sensitivity and can distinguish a single photon per pulse from the dark noise at 0 V, enabled by its design to realize near-ideal broadband absorption, extremely low dark current, and highly efficient charge carrier separation. Meanwhile, the bandwidth of the device reaches above 600 MHz with a timing jitter of 538 ps. The proposed device design provides a new pathway toward low-cost, high-sensitivity, self-powered photodetectors for numerous future applications.

194. The fluid control mechanism of bionic structural heterogeneous composite materials and its potential application in enhancing pump efficiency

Abstract

Studies have shown that the structure of dolphin skin controls fluid media dynamically. Gaining inspiration from this phenomenon, a kind of bionic structural heterogeneous composite material was designed. The bionic structural heterogeneous composite material is composed of two materials: a rigid metal base layer with bionic structures and an elastic polymer surface layer with the corresponding mirror structures. The fluid control mechanism of the bionic structural heterogeneous composite material was investigated using a fluid–solid interaction method in ANSYS Workbench. The results indicated that the bionic structural heterogeneous composite material’s fluid control mechanism is its elastic deformation, which is caused by the coupling action between the elastic surface material and the bionic structure. This deformation can decrease the velocity gradient of the fluid boundary layer through changing the fluid–solid actual contact surface and reduce the frictional force. The bionic structural heterogeneous composite material can also absorb some energy through elastic deformation and avoid energy loss. The bionic structural heterogeneous composite material was applied to the impeller of a centrifugal pump in a contrast experiment, increasing the pump efficiency by 5% without changing the hydraulic model of the impeller. The development of this bionic structural heterogeneous composite material will be straightforward from an engineering point of view, and it will have valuable practical applications.

195. Improved flow performance of a centrifugal compressor based on pit formation on the notum of the whirligig beetle ()

Abstract

Many studies have shown that bionic forms reduce drag through the control fluid medium. In this study, the evenly aligned pits of the whirligig beetle ( Gyrinidae Latreille ) notum were selected as the bionic form to be studied. They were used in centrifugal compressor impellers, called bionic centrifugal compressors, and the flow characteristics were simulated and compared to the prototype compressor. The simulation results show that compared to the prototype compressor, the pressure drag of bionic centrifugal compressors was reduced dramatically, while the pressure ratio was significantly improved. The pressure drag decreased by 19.24%, while the compression ratio increased by 9.8%. The bionic form of the blade delayed the boundary layer separation of the impeller suction surface, reducing the turbulent kinetic energy loss and improving internal air flow. The effect of drag reduction was shown to have a close relationship with the dimple size and bionic surface area; the greater the area, the better the drag reduction effect. However, there should exist an optimal bionic area, which could be determined by considering the flow velocity inside the impeller.

196. Yarn level finite element method simulation for bending over sheaves of braided ropes.

Abstract

The complex problem of ropes (cyclic) bending over sheaves (CBOS) is considered in this article. Ropes that are used to manoeuvre and regulate sails undergo a variety of dynamic stresses which are crucial yet difficult to determine, due to the complexity of the multiscaled braiding structure of ropes. A full dynamic Finite Element Method (FEM) simulation of a braided rope bending over a sheave is conducted with the commercial software Abaqus/Explicit, as it can capture the complex processes occurring inside the rope to high accuracy. A theoretical deduction is performed to determine the yarn paths in a 3D braided structure. Relative movement between braided yarns (including the interlacing point) are better assessed at yarn level through 3D element types instead of the traditional beam elements, as they allow to obtain an estimation of yarn-yarn displacement. Parametric studies are conducted to better understand the factors that affect the yarn sliding. The ratio between the diameter of the sheave and the rope, and the braiding angle, are found to be crucial for the relative movement, while the number of yarns and their diameters have little influence. The successful simulation process demonstrates the feasibility of modelling and analysing the complex interaction occurring in braided structures under specific boundary conditions. The calculated estimated displacement can contribute to further investigations such as the friction and heat generation problem in braided ropes. Abstract

Polarization-sensitive infrared photodetectors are widely needed to distinguish an object from its surrounding environment. Polarization-sensitive detection can be realized by using semiconductors with anisotropic geometry or anisotropic crystal arrangement, such as semiconductor nanowires and two-dimensional (2D) materials. However, these photodetectors show drawbacks in low light absorption, weak polarization sensitivity and stability issues. Here, we designed 2D InAs nanosheet based arrays that are highly suitable for polarization-sensitive infrared photodetection. By using the finite element method (FEM) based on COMSOL Multiphysics, we optimized the geometry of single free-standing InAs nanosheets, obtaining dichroic ratio up to 127 (average) in the wavelength range of 2–3 μm by reducing the thickness and increasing the height. Extending this to a nanosheet array with an optimized geometry, an enhancement of the absorption intensity from 45% (for a single nanosheet) to over 67% with a dichroic ratio exceeding 50 in the wavelength range of 2–3 μm can be achieved. Moreover, these unique light absorption properties are tolerant to incident angles up to 30°. The design of such nanosheet array provides a new route for the development of high-performance infrared photodetectors for polarization photodetection.

Abstract

We report an amplitude analysis and branching fraction measurement of Ds+→K+K−π+ decay using a data sample of 3.19 fb−1 recorded with BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of 4.178 GeV. We perform a model-independent partial wave analysis in the low K+K− mass region to determine the K+K− S-wave line shape, followed by an amplitude analysis of our very pure high-statistics sample. With the detection efficiency based on the amplitude analysis results, the absolute branching fraction is measured to be B(Ds+→K+K−π+)=(5.47±0.08stat±0.13sys)%.

Abstract

We report a measurement of the observed cross sections of e + e - → J / ψ X based on 3.21 fb - 1 of data accumulated at energies from 3.645 to 3.891 GeV with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII collider. In analysis of the cross sections, we measured the decay branching fractions of B ( ψ ( 3686 ) → J / ψ X ) = ( 64.4 ± 0.6 ± 1.6 ) % and B ( ψ ( 3770 ) → J / ψ X ) = ( 0.5 ± 0.2 ± 0.1 ) % for the first time. The energy-dependent line shape of these cross sections cannot be well described by two Breit-Wigner (BW) amplitudes of the expected decays ψ ( 3686 ) → J / ψ X and ψ ( 3770 ) → J / ψ X . Instead, it can be better described with one more BW amplitude of the decay R ( 3760 ) → J / ψ X . Under this assumption, we extracted the R ( 3760 ) mass M R ( 3760 ) = 3766.2 ± 3.8 ± 0.4 MeV / c 2 , total width Γ R ( 3760 ) tot = 22.2 ± 5.9 ± 1.4 MeV , and product of leptonic width and decay branching fraction Γ R ( 3760 ) e e B [ R ( 3760 ) → J / ψ X ] = ( 79.4 ± 85.5 ± 11.7 ) eV . The significance of the R ( 3760 ) is 5.3 σ . The first uncertainties of these measured quantities are from fits to the cross sections and second systematic.
