BackgroundMechanical heart valve replacement (MHVR) is an effective method for the treatment of severe heart valve disease; however, it subjects patient to lifelong warfarin therapy after MHVR with the attendant risk of bleeding and thrombosis. Whether internet-based warfarin management reduces complications and improves patient quality of life remains unknown. ObjectiveThis study aimed to compare the effects of internet-based warfarin management and the conventional approach in patients who received MHVR in order to provide evidence regarding alternative strategies for long-term anticoagulation. MethodsThis was a prospective, multicenter, randomized, open-label, controlled clinical trial with a 1-year follow-up. Patients who needed long-term warfarin anticoagulation after MHVR were enrolled and then randomly divided into conventional and internet-based management groups. The percentage of time in the therapeutic range (TTR) was used as the primary outcome, while bleeding, thrombosis, and other events were the secondary outcomes. ResultsA total of 721 patients were enrolled. The baseline characteristics did not reach statistical differences between the 2 groups, suggesting the random assignment was successful. As a proven and highly efficient processing technique, electrochemical machining (ECM) is used for machining difficult-to-cut Ni-based superalloys (such as Hastelloy® X [HX] fabricated via selective laser melting [SLM]) with complex shapes. However, the metallic surface is susceptible to passive film formation to reduce the dissolution rate of HX under low current density conditions during the ECM process. Aerobic irrigation can effectively improve the oxygen environment in the root zone, and enhance crop quality and yield. However, how aerobic irrigation regulates root growth has not been elucidated. In this study, tomato plants were irrigated with three levels of oxygen (high, medium, and low) under underground drip irrigation. The morphology, activity, transcriptome, and hormone content of tomato roots under oxygen irrigation were analyzed. We found that the aeration irrigation significantly promoted root development. Notably, in the high-aeration irrigation treatment (HAI), the total root length, total surface area, total volume, and root activity were 12.41%, 43.2%, 79.1%, and 24.15% higher than in the non-aeration irrigation treatment (CK), respectively. The transcriptome of tomato roots under aeration irrigation was determined with a total of 272 differentially expressed genes (DEGs), including 131 up-regulated and 141 down-regulated genes. The Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes (KEGG) analysis revealed that the DEGs were enriched mainly in the metabolic pathways and plant hormone signal transduction. Among the plant hormone signal transduction, 50% of DEGs belonged to IAA signal-related genes and were upregulated. LC-MS analysis showed that the content of auxin hormones in the tomato roots subjected to aeration irrigation was significantly higher than that in CK. The content of Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), Indole-3-carboxylic acid (ICA) and Indole-3-carboxaldehyde (ICAld) were 2.3, 2.14 and 1.45 times higher than those of the CK, but insignificant effects were exerted on the contents of cytokinins, salicylic acid, jasmonic acid, abscisic acid, and ethylene. Meanwhile, the key enzyme of auxin synthesis flavin monooxygenase (YUCCA) was significantly up-regulated. The aforementioned results show that aeration irrigation may promote the growth and development of roots by auxin regulation.

In order to investigate the effects of water-fertilizer-air-coupling drip irrigation on soil health status, including soil aeration (SA), enzyme activity (EA) and microbial biomass (MB), and its response relationship, this glasshouse experiment was conducted using tomato as the test crop, and we designed two fertilization gradients of 135 and 180 kg N·ha−1, two irrigation levels of 0.6-fold and 1.0-fold of the crop-pan coefficient, and two aeration treatments of 5 and 15 mg·L−1 for the three-factor and two-level completely randomized block experiment. The effects of soil dissolved-oxygen concentration, oxygen diffusion rate, soil respiration rate, soil urease, catalase, phosphatase activities and soil microbial biomass were systematically monitored and analyzed in the middle and at the end of crop growth. A structural equation model was used to comprehensively analyze the response relationship among relevant influencing factors. The results showed that coupled drip irrigation increased the soil’s dissolved oxygen, oxygen diffusion rate and soil respiration rate by 14.05%, 30.14% and 53.74%, respectively. Soil urease, catalase and phosphatase activities increased by 22.83%, 93.01% and 61.35%, respectively. The biomass of bacteria, fungi and actinomycetes increased by 49.06%, 50.18% and 20.39%, respectively. The results of a structural equation model analysis showed that water-fertilizer-air-coupling drip irrigation could effectively improve soil health status, and the descending order of influence was MB > EA > SA. This study provides scientific knowledge to reveal the improvement of soil health status by water-fertilizer-air-coupling drip irrigation.

For a novel disturbance-free payload (DFP) spacecraft, it is difficult to isolate the low-frequency disturbances owing to the umbilical cables, which decreases the pointing accuracy and stability of the payload. In this research, an improved DFP spacecraft and its integrated control scheme are designed to enhance the pointing accuracy and disturbance attenuation performance. The improved DFP spacecraft consists of a Payload Module (PM), a Support Module (SM), and a Test Mass (TM). The integrated control system is subdivided into three interconnected control loops. An active vibration isolation control loop is used to isolate the PM from disturbances in the high-frequency bands and control the PM to track the attitude of the SM. A drag-free control loop is used to isolate the SM from disturbances in the low-frequency bands and control the SM to track the attitude of the TM. An attitude-pointing control loop is used to control the TM to track the desired attitude. Based on the improved DFP spacecraft and the integrated control system, the payload mounted on the PM can be isolated from disturbances in all of the frequency bands, and its high-level requirements for pointing accuracy and stability can be realized.

Good water quality is important for normal production processes in industrial aquaculture. However, in situ or real-time monitoring is generally not available for many aquacultural systems due to relatively high monitoring costs. Therefore, it is necessary to predict water quality parameters in industrial aquaculture systems to obtain useful information for managing production activities. This study used back propagation neural network (BPNN), radial basis function neural network (RBFNN), support vector machine (SVM), and least squares support vector machine (LSSVM) to simulate and predict water quality parameters including dissolved oxygen (DO), pH, ammonium-nitrogen (NH3-N), nitrate nitrogen (NO3-N), and nitrite-nitrogen (NO2-N). Published data were used to compare the prediction accuracy of different methods. The correlation coefficients of BPNN, RBFNN, SVM, and LSSVM for predicting DO were 0.60, 0.99, 0.99, and 0.99, respectively. The correlation coefficients of BPNN, RBFNN, SVM, and LSSVM for predicting pH were 0.56, 0.84, 0.99, and 0.57. The correlation coefficients of BPNN, RBFNN, SVM, and LSSVM for predicting NH3-N were 0.28, 0.88, 0.99, and 0.25, respectively. The correlation coefficients of BPNN, RBFNN, SVM, and LSSVM for predicting NO3-N were 0.96, 0.87, 0.99, and 0.87, respectively. The correlation coefficients of BPNN, RBFNN, SVM, and LSSVM predicted NO2-N with correlation coefficients of 0.87, 0.08, 0.99, and 0.75, respectively. SVM obtained the most accurate and stable prediction results, and SVM was used for predicting the water quality parameters of industrial aquaculture systems with groundwater as the source water. The results showed that the SVM achieved the best prediction effect with accuracy of 99% for both published data and measured data from a typical industrial aquaculture system. The SVM model is recommended for simulating and predicting the water quality in industrial aquaculture systems.

Autophagy is a common physiological process in organisms, including higher plants. The ATG8 subfamily, the core member of the autophagy-related gene (ATG) family, plays a key role in plant growth and development and nutrient stress responses. However, the core ATG8 homologs and their roles in stress resistance remain elusive in allotetraploid rapeseed (AACC, Brassica napus L.). In this study, we identified 29 ATG8 subgroup members, consisting of three phylogenetic clades, based on the analysis of genomic annotation and conserved motifs. Differential transcriptional responses of BnaATG8s to salt stress, nitrogen limitation, and other nutrient stresses were investigated, and we identified BnaA8.ATG8F as the core ATG8 member through gene co-expression network analysis. Decreased BnaA8.ATG8F expression repressed the salt tolerance of transgenic rapeseed plants by significantly reducing the root Na+ retention under salt stress. Moreover, downregulation of BnaA8.ATG8F increased nitrogen (N) limitation sensitivity of transgenic rapeseed plants through decreasing N uptake, translocation, and enhancing N remobilization under nitrogen starvation. In summary, we identified the core ATG8 homologs and characterized their physiological and molecular mechanisms underlying salt stress tolerance and nitrogen limitation adaptation. Our results may provide elite genetic resources for the genetic improvement of nutrient stress tolerance in rapeseed.

In view of the long-term utilization history as a building and furniture making material in southeast Asian countries, Thyrsostachys oliveri is considered to have great utilization potential. However, little is known about the quantitative morphological characteristics and comprehensive material properties of its culm. In this study, we systematically investigated the morphological characteristics, the chemical components, and the physical–mechanical properties of the three-year-old culm of T. oliveri. The morphological analysis result showed that the internode length, the diameter of internodes and the wall thickness changed with the culm height. The volume of the culm wall of a single internode increased before the 10th internode, and then it decreased to a significant level at the 20th internode. The basic chemical compositions (cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin and silicon content) of the culm wall were 346.19 mg/g, 95.32 mg/g, 33.17%, and 3.39 mg/g, respectively. These component contents were relatively stable in the bottom and middle part of the culm, but changed significantly in the upper part of the culm. The moisture content and the base density of the culm wall were 73.01% and 0.64 g/cm3, respectively. The culm wall shrinkage rate in the radial, tangential direction as well as the volumetric shrinkage reached the minimum value in the middle part of the culm. The average compressive strength, modulus of rupture and modulus of elasticity of the culm wall were 67.03 MPa, 143.74 MPa, and 7.99 GPa, respectively. These results provide valuable reference data for more rational use of this bamboo resources.

In this paper, a symmetric power-exponent prismatic phononic crystal configuration was proposed for the vibration reduction of thin plate structures, and the mechanism of bandgap generation and the influencing factors of the band gaps were analyzed. The results showed that the proposed symmetric power-exponent prismatic phononic crystal structure has three complete band gaps of bending waves, where the width of the second band gap can go up to 1639 Hz. The band gaps of bending waves of the phononic crystal were verified using a combination of numerical simulations and experimental methods, and subsequently, the bandgap characteristics and energy-focusing effect of the phononic crystals were effectively used to suppress the bending vibration of the thin plate. With the increase in prismoid height of the structure, the width of the first band gap expanded, while the bandwidths of the other two band gaps narrowed down. It was observed that an increase in the power of the power-exponent prismoid would reduce the starting and ending frequencies of the band gaps, whereas an increase in the prismoid edge thickness would weaken the energy-focusing effect and narrow the band gaps gradually. Our research results provide a new technique and a pathway to realize vibration reduction in thin plate structures.

In order to overcome the resistance of phytopathogens to commercial fungicides, a series of optical 2-methyl-2,3-diol-5-pentyl-based cinnamamide derivatives were rationally designed, synthesized, characterized, and evaluated for their in vitro and in vivo fungicidal activities. The bioassay results indicated that the EC50 (concentration for 50% of maximal effect) values of (R)-11f, (R)-11m, (S)-11m and (R)-11n were 0.16, 0.28, 0.41 and 0.47 µg/mL in the in vitro evaluation against Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, respectively, while compounds (R)- and (S)-11i, (R)- and (S)-11j exhibited excellent in vivo fungicidal activity against Pseudoperonspera cubensis with inhibition rates of 100% at 400 μg/mL. These findings supported the idea that optical 2-methyl-2,3-diol-5-pentyl-containing cinnamamides (R)- and (S)-11i, (R)- and (S)-11j with 2-chloro-4-trifluoromethyl aniline and 2-(4-chlorophenyl) aniline showed excellent in vivo fungicidal activity against S. sclerotiorum and P. cubensis and were promising fungicide candidates.

The enormous pressures of energy consumption and the severe pollution produced by non-renewable resources have prompted researchers to develop various environmentally friendly energy-saving materials. Transparent bamboo represents an emerging result of biomass material research that has been identified and studied for its many advantages, including light weight, excellent light transmittance, environmental sustainability, superior mechanical properties, and low thermal conductivity. The present review summarizes methods for preparing transparent bamboo, including delignification and resin impregnation. Next, transparent bamboo performance is quantified in terms of optical, mechanical, and thermal conductivity characteristics and compared with other conventional and emerging synthetic materials. Potential applications of transparent bamboo are then discussed using various functionalizations achieved through doping nanomaterials or modified resins to realize advanced energy-efficient building materials, decorative elements, and optoelectronic devices. Finally, challenges associated with the preparation, performance improvement, and production scaling of transparent bamboo are summarized, suggesting opportunities for the future development of this novel, bio-based, and advanced material.

After Being and Time, “the last god” is born ex nihilo in Contributions to Philosophy. This has aroused extensive interest and discussion in the academic world. This paper focuses on the manifestation of “the last god” in Contributions to Philosophy. I will show that Contributions to Philosophy conveys Heidegger’s “deep experience”. This “deep experience” contains several key moments: solitude, stillness, silence and restraint. Solitude is the essential state of philosophers and poets. In solitude, one can enter a still place, which comes from the “stillness of Being”. Silence corresponds to this stillness. Silence has an original depth. These experiences finally point to the grounding attunement of “restraint”, which contains a relationship with powerful things. “The last god” appears in such deep experience, and its mode of manifestation is called “passing by”.

The traditional satellite access selection algorithm, which is used in large-scale satellite networks, has some disadvantages, such as frequent link switching, high interrupt probability, and unable to adapt to a dynamic environment. According to the periodicity of the large-scale satellite network and the prior knowledge provided by acknowledgment packages, a dynamic domain-based adaptive access algorithm (DAA) is proposed in this paper. Firstly, this algorithm divides the large-scale satellite network into different domains according to the minimum elevation angle of the Earth station (ES) and the predictable characteristics of the trajectory of the satellite. Then, the ES selects the access satellites according to the relationship between the traffic volume and the satellites’ coverage time. Finally, the ES selects the backup access satellite based on the satellites’ coverage time, the traffic volume of the ES, satellite status provided by prior knowledge, and other information. When the access satellite cannot satisfy the communication demand, the ES adaptively switches the earth-satellite link to the backup access satellite. The ES first choice of access satellite does not require interaction with the satellites, reducing the consumption of communication resources. The selection strategy of backup access satellite and the concept of virtual destination address proposed in this paper can reduce the routing overhead after switching. Through theoretical analysis and simulation results in the StarLink constellation, it is proved that this paper improves the coverage time utilization of accessing satellites and reduces the switching probability compared with the traditional access algorithm, which is more suitable for ES to access large-scale satellite networks.

The aim of this study was to find a material suited for the prevention of evaporative water loss and salt accumulation in coastal saline soils. One-dimensional vertical water infiltration and phreatic evaporation experiments were conducted using a silty loam saline soil. A 3-cm-thick layer of corn straw, biochar, and peat was buried at the soil depth of 20 cm, and a 6-cm-thick layer of peat was also buried at the same soil depth for comparison. The presence of the biochar layer increased the upper soil water content, but its ability to inhibit salt accumulation was poor, leading to a high salt concentration in the surface soil. The 3-cm-thick straw and 6-cm-thick peat layers were most effective to inhibit salt accumulation, which reduced the upper soil salt concentration by 96% and 93%, respectively. However, the straw layer strongly inhibited phreatic evaporation and resulted in low water content in the upper soil layer. Compared with the straw layer, the peat layer increased the upper soil water content. Thus, burying a 6-cm-thick peat layer in the coastal saline soil is the optimal strategy to retain water in the upper soil layer and intercept salt in the deeper soil layer.

Large quantities of organic matter are stored in frozen soils (permafrost) within the Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau (QTP). The most of QTP regions in particular have experienced significant warming and wetting over the past 50 years, and this warming trend is projected to intensify in the future. Such climate change will likely alter the soil freeze–thaw pattern in permafrost active layer and toward significant greenhouse gas nitrous oxide (N2O) release. However, the interaction effect of warming and altered soil moisture on N2O emission during freezing and thawing is unclear. Here, we used simulation experiments to test how changes in N2O flux relate to different thawing temperatures (T5–5°C, T10–10°C, and T20–20°C) and soil volumetric water contents (VWCs, W15–15%, W30–30%, and W45–45%) under 165 F–T cycles in topsoil (0–20 cm) of an alpine meadow with discontinuous permafrost in the QTP. First, in contrast to the prevailing view, soil moisture but not thawing temperature dominated the large N2O pulses during F–T events. The maximum emissions, 1,123.16–5,849.54 μg m–2 h–1, appeared in the range of soil VWC from 17% to 38%. However, the mean N2O fluxes had no significant difference between different thawing temperatures when soil was dry or waterlogged. Second, in medium soil moisture, low thawing temperature is more able to promote soil N2O emission than high temperature. For example, the peak value (5,849.54 μg m–2 h–1) and cumulative emissions (366.6 mg m–2) of W30T5 treatment were five times and two to four times higher than W30T10 and W30T20, respectively. Third, during long-term freeze–thaw cycles, the patterns of cumulative N2O emissions were related to soil moisture. treatments; on the contrary, the cumulative emissions of W45 treatments slowly increased until more than 80 cycles. Finally, long-term freeze–thaw cycles could improve nitrogen availability, prolong N2O release time, and increase N2O cumulative emission in permafrost active layer. Particularly, the high emission was concentrated in the first 27 and 48 cycles in W15 and W30, respectively. Overall, our study highlighted that large emissions of N2O in F–T events tend to occur in medium moisture soil at lower thawing temperature; the increased number of F–T cycles may enhance N2O emission and nitrogen mineralization in permafrost active layer.

Grain weight is one of the most important determinants of grain yield in rice. In this study, QTL analysis for grain weight, grain length, and grain width was performed using populations derived from crosses between major parental lines of three-line indica hybrid rice. A total of 27 QTL for grain weight were detected using three recombinant inbred line populations derived from the crosses Teqing/IRBB lines, Zhenshan 97/Milyang 46, and Xieqingzao/Milyang 46. Of these, 10 were found in only a single population and the other 17 in two or all three populations. Nine of the 17 common QTL were located in regions where no QTL associated with grain weight have been cloned and one was selected for fine-mapping. Eight populations segregating in an isogenic background were derived from one F7 residual heterozygote of Teqing/IRBB52. The target QTL, qTGW10-20.8 controlling grain weight, grain length, and grain width, was localized to a 70.7-kb region flanked by InDel markers Te20811 and Te20882 on the long arm of chromosome 10. The QTL region contains seven annotated genes, of which six encode proteins with known functional domains and one encodes a hypothetical protein. One of the genes, Os10g0536100 encoding the MIKC-type MADS-box protein OsMADS56, is the most likely candidate for qTGW10-20.8. These results provide a basis for cloning qTGW10-20.8, which has an important contribution to grain weight variation in rice. Abstract Background The xylem sap of vascular plants primarily transports water and mineral nutrients from the roots to the shoots and also transports heavy metals such as cadmium (Cd). Proteomic changes in xylem sap is an important mechanism for detoxifying Cd by plants. However, it is unclear how proteins in xylem sap respond to Cd. Here, we investigated the effects of Cd stress on the xylem sap proteome of Brassica napus using a label-free shotgun proteomic approach to elucidate plant response mechanisms to Cd toxicity. Results We identified and quantified 672 proteins; 67% were predicted to be secretory, and 11% (73 proteins) were unique to Cd-treated samples. Cd stress caused statistically significant and biologically relevant abundance changes in 28 xylem sap proteins. Among these proteins, the metabolic pathways that were most affected were related to cell wall modifications, stress/oxidoreductases, and lipid and protein metabolism. We functionally validated a plant defensin-like protein, BnPDFL, which belongs to the stress/oxidoreductase category, that was unique to the Cd-treated samples and played a positive role in Cd tolerance. Subcellular localization analysis revealed that BnPDFL is cell wall-localized. In vitro Cd-binding assays revealed that BnPDFL has Cd-chelating activity. BnPDFL heterologous overexpression significantly enhanced Cd tolerance in E. coli and Arabidopsis. Functional disruption of Arabidopsis plant defensin genes AtPDF2.3 and AtPDF2.2, which are mainly expressed in root vascular bundles, significantly decreased Cd tolerance. Conclusions Several xylem sap proteins in Brassica napus are differentially induced in response to Cd treatment, and plant defensin plays a positive role in Cd tolerance.

Abstract Background The utilization of Chlorella for the dual goals of biofuel production and wastewater nutrient removal is highly attractive. Moreover, this technology combined with flue gas (rich in CO2) cleaning is considered to be an effective way of improving biofuel production. However, the sterilization of wastewater is an energy-consuming step. This study aimed to comprehensively evaluate a cost-effective method of culturing Chlorella pyrenoidosa in unsterilized piggery wastewater for biofuel production by sparging air or simulated flue gas, including algal biomass production, lipid production, nutrient removal rate and the mutual effects between algae and other microbes. Results The average biomass productivity of C. pyrenoidosa reached 0.11 g L−1 day−1/0.15 g L−1 day−1 and the average lipid productivity reached 19.3 mg L−1 day−1/30.0 mg L−1 day−1 when sparging air or simulated flue gas, respectively. This method achieved fairish nutrient removal efficiency with respect to chemical oxygen demand (43.9%/55.1% when sparging air and simulated flue gas, respectively), ammonia (98.7%/100% when sparging air and simulated flue gas, respectively), total nitrogen (38.6%/51.9% when sparging air or simulated flue gas, respectively) and total phosphorus (42.8%/60.5% when sparging air or simulated flue gas, respectively). Culturing C. pyrenoidosa strongly influenced the microbial community in piggery wastewater. In particular, culturing C. pyrenoidosa enriched the abundance of the obligate parasite Vampirovibrionales, which can result in the death of Chlorella. Conclusion The study provided a comprehensive evaluation of culturing C. pyrenoidosa in unsterilized piggery wastewater for biofuel production. The results indicated that this cost-effective method is feasible but has considerable room for improving. More importantly, this study elucidated the mutual effects between algae and other microbes. In particular, a detrimental effect of the obligate parasite Vampirovibrionales on algal biomass and lipid production was found.

This paper discusses the finite-time and the fixed-time consensus of nonlinear stochastic multi-agent systems (NSMSs) with randomly occurring uncertainties (ROUs) and randomly occurring nonlinearities (RONs) in a leader-following framework. Nonlinear control and impulsive pinning control protocols are designed to guarantee that follower agents realize consensus with the leader agent in finite time(fixed time). Based on the finite-time and fixed-time consensus theory, stochastic analysis technique, comparison system theory and algebra graph theory, some sufficient conditions are proposed to guarantee the finite-time and fixed-time consensus of systems. Then, the setting times of finite-time consensus and fixed-time consensus are estimated. Finally, two simulation examples are presented to illustrate the correctness of our conclusions.

Plant functional traits at the community level (plant community traits hereafter) are commonly used in trait-based ecology for the study of vegetation–environment relationships. Previous studies have shown that a variety of plant functional traits at the species or community level can be successfully retrieved by airborne or spaceborne imaging spectrometer in homogeneous, species-poor ecosystems. However, findings from these studies may not apply to heterogeneous, species-rich ecosystems. Here, we aim to determine whether unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based hyperspectral imaging could adequately estimate plant community traits in a species-rich alpine meadow ecosystem on the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau. To achieve this, we compared the performance of four non-parametric regression models, i.e., partial least square regression (PLSR), the generic algorithm integrated with the PLSR (GA-PLSR), random forest (RF) and extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) for the retrieval of 10 plant community traits using visible and near-infrared (450–950 nm) UAV hyperspectral imaging. Our results show that chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, carotenoid content, starch content, specific leaf area and leaf thickness were estimated with good accuracies, with the highest R2 values between 0.64 (nRMSE = 0.16) and 0.83 (nRMSE = 0.11). Meanwhile, the estimation accuracies for nitrogen content, phosphorus content, plant height and leaf dry matter content were relatively low, with the highest R2 varying from 0.3 (nRMSE = 0.24) to 0.54 (nRMSE = 0.20). Among the four tested algorithms, the GA-PLSR produced the highest accuracy, followed by PLSR and XGBoost, and RF showed the poorest performance. Overall, our study demonstrates that UAV-based visible and near-infrared hyperspectral imaging has the potential to accurately estimate multiple plant community traits for the natural grassland ecosystem at a fine scale.

Problems such as water scarcity and pollution frequently occur in coastal zones. This study investigated the grey water footprint and the sustainability and intensity of grey water footprint in Yantai between 2014 and 2019 by taking both surface water and groundwater into consideration. The research results indicated that the Yantai grey water footprint firstly increased and then decreased between 2014 and 2019. The lowest grey water footprint in 2019 was 744 million m3. The agricultural grey water footprint accounted for a large proportion of the total grey water footprint. Although the sustainability of grey water footprint fluctuates in Yantai, it maintains well. The Yantai grey footprint intensity gradually decreased to 3/10,000 CNY. The economic benefit of grey water footprint and utilization efficiency of water resources have been improved yearly. The quality of the water environment in Yantai has also been improved. The research of this paper provides some useful information for water resources protection and sustainable utilization in coastal cities.

Tic disorders are neurological disorders that are prone to fluctuation and recurrence. It is important to study the factors related to disease recurrence and to subsequently provide suggestions for clinical treatment. A retrospective study was conducted to assess patients with recurrent and non-recurring tic disorders diagnosed in the Pediatric Tic Disorder Clinic of the First Affiliated Hospital of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, China, and to extract various factors—such as fetal status; medication, allergy, and family history; social and psychological factors; blood lead content; electroencephalogram (EEG); disease duration; type of tics; and disease severity—and identify factors associated with recurrence. The recurrence rate of tic disorders was approximately 45.10% in this study. The childbirth conditions, surgery/trauma, respiratory tract infection, allergy, stress, consumption of tiapride, and severity of tic disorders were factors related to and affected disease recurrence.

In order to reduce the excessive vibration responses of a reinforced concrete frame structure induced by several vibrating screens working simultaneously, field vibration monitoring and some vibration reduction measures are carried out. The results of field vibration monitoring show that the maximum vertical vibration of the structure exceeds 106% of the limitation of building vibration. The results of the structural response analysis show that the excessive structural vibration is attributed to the resonance, as the frequency of the vibrating screens coincides with vertical natural frequency of the floors of the factory structure. Based on this fact, three vibration control measures, including damping, active vibration isolation of vibrating screens and structural vibration absorption, are proposed to mitigate the excessive vibration. In order to analyze the vibration control performance of the proposed schemes, the finite element dynamic model of the factory building structure is established, and the model is verified by the results of vibration and mode tests. Then, the damping system, vibration isolation system and vibration absorption system are set up in the models, and the vibration control performance of the three schemes are investigated. The results show that the measures, including vibration isolation and absorption, can reduce the vibration by more than 80%. Combined with the demand for a short construction period, the active vibration isolation of vibrating screens is finally selected. After the implementation of the scheme, the field monitoring data show that the structural vibration response is consistent with the finite element result and obviously weakened to meet the limitation. This study can provide a reference for the vibration control design for similar screening factory buildings.

Redox modification, a post-translational modification, has been demonstrated to be significant for many physiological pathways and biological processes in both eukaryotes and prokaryotes. However, little is known about the global profile of protein redox modification in fungi. To explore the roles of redox modification in the plant pathogenic fungi, a global thiol proteome survey was performed in the model fungal pathogen Magnaporthe oryzae. A total of 3713 redox modification sites from 1899 proteins were identified through a mix sample containing mycelia with or without oxidative stress, conidia, appressoria, and invasive hyphae of M. oryzae. The identified thiol-modified proteins were performed with protein domain, subcellular localization, functional classification, metabolic pathways, and protein–protein interaction network analyses, indicating that redox modification is associated with a wide range of biological and cellular functions. These results suggested that redox modification plays important roles in fungal growth, conidium formation, appressorium formation, as well as invasive growth. Interestingly, a large number of pathogenesis-related proteins were redox modification targets, suggesting the significant roles of redox modification in pathogenicity of M. oryzae. This work provides a global insight into the redox proteome of the pathogenic fungi, which built a groundwork and valuable resource for future studies of redox modification in fungi.

The warming pace in the Tibetan Plateau, which is predominantly occupied by grassland ecosystems, has been 0.2°C per decade in recent years, dwarfing the rate of global warming by a factor of 2. Many Earth system models project substantial carbon sequestration in Tibet, which has been observed.

Nitrogen fertilization and planting density are two key factors that influence the yield of rice. Reducing nitrogen fertilizer input and increasing planting density will help to improve nitrogen use efficiency and stabilize yield. Field and 15N tracer method in plot experiments were conducted to study the trends of yield, nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) and nitrogen transfer of hybrid rice and conventional rice under dense planting with a reduced nitrogen rate (DPRN) and sparse planting with a high nitrogen rate (SPHN). Among the nitrogen in rice plants, the proportion of nitrogen from fertilizer under the DPRN was reduced by 1.8–13%. The late-season rice (LSR) had a higher rate of decrease compared with the early-season rice (ESR). The uptake efficiency of nitrogen fertilizer was significantly higher under the DPRN than that under the SPHN, with an increase of 7.7–21.9%. The accumulated nitrogen and translocated ratio under the DPRN before the heading stage were 6.1–10.8% and 2.0–9.6% higher than those under the SPHN, respectively. The yield did not change under different treatments. Those findings suggest that the DPRN could guarantee a stabilized yield while increasing the NUE and the amount of translocated nitrogen in the double-cropped rice system.

Under the current rice cropping system, excessive nitrogen application has become a major issue that needs to be changed, and nitrogen reduction has become a hot research topic in recent years. The use of optimum planting density is becoming a common agronomic management system in addition to nitrogen reduction, especially under double cropping rice systems. In this paper, changes in rice yield, nitrogen-use efficiency (NUE) and net N mineralization under dense planting with a reduced nitrogen rate (DPRN) were studied. By comparing DPRN with high-nitrogen sparse planting (SPHN), we found that the population tiller number (tiller number per unit area) increased by 9–27% under DPRN cultivation. Nitrogen accumulation under DPRN treatment of double-cropped rice was basically stable. NUE under DPRN was significantly higher by 1.3–22.7% compared to SPHN. The partial factor productivity of applied N (PFPN) was significantly higher than that of SPHN, with an increase of 4.3–22.8%. The net N mineralized of double-cropped rice under DPRN increased at different stages, and the increase in late-season rice (LSR) was greater than that of early-season rice (ESR). The highest net N mineralized in double cropping rice at different stages was found in the dense planting treatment (DP) and N2 (120 kg N h−1). In conclusion, DPRN cultivation of double-cropped rice could be accepted as a proper management strategy for reducing nitrogen input, improving NUE and promoting soil nitrogen mineralization under given conditions.

Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) is a major oil crop in China, with the world’s largest planted area and total yield. Rapeseed has a high demand for nitrogen (N), and nitrogen deficiency in soil is an important limiting factor for rapeseed production. However, rapeseed responds to N deprivation by regulating its own morphology, structure, and physiology. We carried out the current experiment by utilizing low N (LN: 0.3 mM NO3−) and normal N (CK: 6.0 mM NO3−) treatments using Brassica napus as the experimental material. The study results showed that low N induced root elongation in rapeseed, and the root length of LN treatment was 2.37 times that of HN treatment. The dry matter of roots also significantly increased due to low N treatment. Meanwhile, low N treatment decreased photosynthetic pigment (including chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, and carotenoids) contents and dry mass accumulation of leaves. A higher root/shoot ratio and N physiological efficiency were observed under low N treatment. The changes in cell wall components (pectin, cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin), related enzymes, and genes’ transcription levels in roots were determined and the results suggested that low N promoted the demethylation of ion-bound pectin (ISP) and covalently bound pectin (CSP), the content of CSP and cellulose. The promoted pectin methylesterase (PME) activity, inhibited pectin and cellulose degradation enzymes, and up/downregulation of related genes also confirming the results of cell wall components. The low N-increased demethylation degree of pectin and content of pectin and cellulose in cell walls was conducive to cell wall loosening and cell wall synthesis during cell division and elongation, ultimately promoting root-adaptive elongation. The study revealed a possible mechanism in which the alteration of cell wall component content and structure participates in cell elongation and expansion, which directly induces root elongation under N deficiency. The successful implementation of this research may be conducive to facilitating the development of rapeseed cultivars with high N use efficiency through root-based genetic improvements and improving plant adaptability to low N.

In recent years, oceanic lidar has seen a wide range of oceanic applications, such as optical profiling and detecting bathymetry. Furthermore, spaceborne lidars, CALIOP and ICESat-2, designed for atmospheric and ice science applications, have been used for ocean backscattering retrievals, but, until now, there has been no spaceborne lidar specifically designed for ocean detection. There is a demand for an effective lidar simulator to study the detection potential capability of spaceborne oceanic lidar. In this study, an open-source spaceborne oceanic lidar simulator named SOLS was developed, which is available freely. Moreover, the maximum detectable depth and corresponding optimal wavelength for spaceborne lidar were analyzed at a global scale by using SOLS. The factors controlling detection limits of a spaceborne ocean profiling lidar in different cases were discussed. Then, the maximum detectable depths with different relative measurement errors and the influence of solar background radiance were estimated. Subsequently, the effects of laser and detector parameters on maximum detectable depths were studied. The relationship between the lidar detectable depth and the ocean mixed layer depth was also discussed. Preliminary results show that the maximum detectable depth could reach deeper than 120 m in the oligotrophic sea at low latitudes. We found that 490 nm is the optimal wavelength for most of the open seawater. For coastal water, 532 nm is a more suitable choice considering both the technical maturity and geophysical parameters. If possible, a lidar equipped with 440 nm could achieve the greatest depth in oligotrophic seawater in subtropical gyres north and south of the equator. The upper mixed layer vertical structure in most of the global open ocean is within the lidar maximum detectable depth. These results show that SOLS can help the design of future spaceborne oceanic lidar systems a lot.

Unsubstituted pyridin-2-amine has a high quantum yield and is a potential scaffold for a fluorescent probe. However, the facile access to conjugated highly substituted aminopyridines and the study of their fluorescent properties is scarce. In this paper, synthesis and fluorescent properties of multisubstituted aminopyridines were studied based on a recently developed Rh-catalyzed coupling of vinyl azide with isonitrile to form a vinyl carbodiimide intermediate, following tandem cyclization with an alkyne. An aminopyridine substituted with an azide group as a potential probe was further designed, synthesized, and evaluated. The “clicking-and-probing” experiment of it on BSA protein showed the potential of aminopyridine as a scaffold of a biological probe.

As an important nitrogen source, nitrate (NO3−) absorbed by plants is carried throughout the plant via short-distance distribution (cytoplasm to vacuole) and long-distance transportation (root to shoot), the two pathways that jointly regulate the content of NO3− in plants. NO3− accumulation within the vacuole depends on the activities of both tonoplast proton pumps and chloride channel (CLC) proteins, and less NO3− is stored in vacuoles when the activities of these proteins are reduced. The ratio of the distribution of NO3− in the cytoplasm and vacuole affects the long-distance transport of NO3−, which is regulated by the proteins NPF7.3 and NPF7.2 that play opposite but complementary roles. NPF7.3 is responsible for loading NO3− from the root cytoplasm into the xylem, whereas NPF7.2 regulates the unloading of NO3− from the xylem, thereby facilitating the long-distance transport of NO3− through the roots to the shoots. Vegetables, valued for their nutrient content, are consumed in large quantities; however, a high content of NO3− can detrimentally affect the quality of these plants. NO3− that is not assimilated and utilized in plant tissues is converted via enzyme-catalyzed reactions to nitrite (NO2−), which is toxic to plants and harmful to human health. In this review, we describe the mechanisms underlying NO3− distribution and transport in plants, a knowledge of which will contribute to breeding leafy vegetables with lower NO3− contents and thus be of considerable significance from the perspectives of environmental protection and food safety.

Cadmium (Cd) is a toxic metal element and the mechanism(s) underlying Cd tolerance in plants are still unclear. Increasingly more studies have been conducted on Cd binding to plant cell walls (CW) but most of them have focused on Cd fixation by CW pectin, and few studies have examined Cd binding to cellulose and hemicellulose. Here we found that Cd binding to CW pectin, cellulose, and hemicellulose was significantly higher in Tor-1, a Cd tolerant A. thaliana ecotype, than in Ph2-23, a sensitive ecotype, as were the concentrations of pectin, cellulose, and hemicellulose. Transcriptome analysis revealed that the genes regulating CW pectin, cellulose, and hemicellulose polysaccharide concentrations in Tor-1 differed significantly from those in Ph2-23. The expressions of most genes such as pectin methyl esterase inhibitors (PMEIs), pectin lyases, xyloglucan endotransglucosylase/hydrolase, expansins (EXPAs), and cellulose hydrolase were higher in Ph2-23, while the expressions of cellulose synthase-like glycosyltransferase 3 (CSLG3) and pectin ethyl esterase 4 (PAE4) were higher in Tor-1. The candidate genes identified here seem to regulate CW Cd fixation by polysaccharides. In conclusion, an increase in pectin demethylation activity, the higher concentration of cellulose and hemicellulose, regulated by related genes, in Tor-1 than in Ph2-23 are likely involved in enhanced Cd CW retention and reduce Cd toxicity.

Accumulation and detoxification of cadmium in rice shoots are of great importance for adaptation to grow in cadmium contaminated soils and for limiting the transport of Cd to grains. However, the molecular mechanisms behind the processes involved in this regulation remain largely unknown. Defensin proteins play important roles in heavy metal tolerance and accumulation in plants. In rice, the cell wall-localized defensin protein (CAL1) is involved in Cd efflux and partitioning to the shoots. In the present study, we functionally characterized the CAL2 defensin protein and determined its contribution to Cd accumulation. CAL2 shared 66% similarity with CAL1, and its mRNA accumulation is mainly observed in roots and is unaffected by Cd stress, but its transcription level was lower than that of CAL1 based on the relative expression of CAL2/Actin1 observed in this study and that reported previously. A promoter-GUS assay revealed that CAL2 is expressed in root tips. Stable expression of the CAL2-mRFP fusion protein indicated that CAL2 is also localized in the cell walls. An in vitro Cd binding experiment revealed that CAL2 has Cd chelation activity. Overexpression of CAL2 increased Cd accumulation in Arabidopsis and rice shoots, but it had no effect on the accumulation of other essential elements. Heterologous expression of CAL2 enhanced Cd sensitivity in Arabidopsis, whereas overexpression of CAL2 had no effect on Cd tolerance in rice. These findings indicate that CAL2 positively regulates Cd accumulation in ectopic overexpression lines of Arabidopsis and rice. We have identified a new gene regulating Cd accumulation in rice grain, which would provide a new genetic resource for molecular breeding.

Variation of hydraulic parameters for unsaturated soil in bank slopes during reservoir water rising or falling process is crucial to scientific analysis and evaluation of bank slope stability. In this paper, soil samples from the Woshaxi landslide in the Three Gorges Reservoir were taken for a permeability test under reservoir drawdown conditions using an independently developed apparatus, which can simulate the variation process of internal seepage in bank slope soils. Changes of particle gradations, soil-water characteristic curves, and unsaturated permeability functions of the soil samples during reservoir falling process were studied by combining with the physical empirical model and numerical simulation. Permeability test results show that fine particles in soil samples migrated and were lost under seepage force action during the tests, leading to a continuous decrease of fine particle content indicated in the grain size distribution curves, in which particles with a size less than 0.02 mm lose the most. As permeation time increases, the soil saturated permeability enhances constantly with the change rate increasing first and then decreasing. The soil-water characteristic curves change obviously in the high matrix suction section (10~104 kPa), and the volumetric water content decreases constantly and shows a positive correlation with the fine particle content. During the permeability test, the unsaturated permeability coefficient corresponding to a fixed matric suction increases with the drawdowns of the reservoir water level. Slope stability results show that neglecting the variational characteristics of hydraulic parameters in slope stability evaluation can result in a bigger safety factor, which is dangerous for slope safety evaluation. The research results can provide a scientific basis for the stability analysis and evaluation of the bank slopes in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area.

Under the requirement of clean production, a new type of slurry blast device for mechanically removing oxide scale on the surface of steel strips is presented, which can avoid the serious problems of rapid wear, low service life, and low efficiency of the traditional abrasive water jet with a nozzle. In this paper, the numerical simulation of the rotating blade centrifugal jet in the slurry blast device is conducted based on CFD, where the DPM and the erosion model are innovatively employed to simulate the movement characteristics of abrasive particles and the erosion rate of mixed slurry on the surface of the steel strip. Simulation results show that the erosion rate and particle motion velocity are proportional to the blade rotation speed and inlet pressure. Reasonable inlet pressure and rotation speed are helpful for improving the rust removal efficiency of slurry blast devices. An experimental system is established to validate the simulation results. The experimental results are consistent with the simulation trend, which exhibits that the developed slurry blast device is feasible for steel strip descaling. This work will play substantial guiding roles in the engineering optimization of slurry blast devices for steel strip descaling.

Railcar asymmetric wheel wear leads to severe wear on one wheel but mild wear on the other wheel. The consequences of the asymmetric wheel include accelerated wear, mechanical failure and downtime, and high financial penalties. Therefore, identifying the asymmetric wheel wear is critical not only for cost effective maintenance but also for safe operations. Fortunately, the increasing amount of various wayside detectors is instrumented along the railway that can monitor the health of railcar components and log plenty of detailed information about railroad operations. One can use this information to identify the asymmetric wheel wear in the early stage. However, most elliptically contoured distributions are effective in describing normal events but not in dealing with the outliers, which mainly locate in the tails of the distribution. Asymmetric wheel wear requires effective anomaly detection that mainly focuses on the extreme values in the tail of a right-skewed distribution. In this paper, we employ the Extreme Value Theory (EVT), which handles the unusually high or low data in the distribution, to derive an extreme value score to identify asymmetric wheel wear. Experiment results show that identification of asymmetric wheel wear can generate huge monetary benefit in terms of reducing average maintenance times of railcars.

Exercise-based training decreases hospitalizations in heart failure patients but such patients have exercise intolerance. The objectives of the study were to evaluate the effect of 12 weeks of Tai Chi exercise and lower limb muscles' functional electrical stimulation in older chronic heart failure adults. A total of 1,084 older adults with chronic systolic heart failure were included in a non-randomized clinical trial (n=271 per group). The control group did not receive any kind of intervention, one group received functional electrical stimulation of lower limb muscles (FES group), another group practiced Tai Chi exercise (TCE group), and another received functional electrical stimulation of lower limb muscles and practiced Tai Chi exercise (FES & TCE group). Identification of quantitative trait loci (QTL) having small effects on heading date (HD) is important for fine-tuning flowering time in rice (Oryza sativa L.). In this study, minor-effect QTL for HD were identified using five segregating rice populations, including a recombinant inbred line population derived from crosses between indica cultivar Teqing and near isogenic lines of IR24, and four populations derived from residual heterozygotes identified in the original population. HD data from these populations were obtained in multiple years or at two locations with different photoperiods. A total of 11 QTL were detected; they had small additive effects ranging from 0.21 to 1.63 days. The QTL were all detected in different populations, locations and/or years, having consistent allelic effects across experiments and a stable magnitude across years at the same location. These QTL, and other minor-effect QTL that have been cloned or fine-mapped, generally do not have strong photoperiod sensitivity, and thus can be used in a wide range of eco-geographical conditions. Seven of the 11 QTL were different from those that have been cloned or fine-mapped, providing new candidates for gene cloning and marker-assisted breeding. Allelic effects of QTL corresponding to those that had been cloned or fine-mapped, were much smaller in this study than previously reported. The results supported the assumption that qualitative and quantitative genes may be different alleles at the same loci, suggesting that it may be promising to identify minor-effect QTL from major heading date genes/QTL that have been cloned. Abstract Background The ice alga Chlamydomonas sp. ICE-L is the main contributor to primary productivity in Antarctic sea ice ecosystems and is well adapted to the extremely harsh environment. However, the adaptive mechanism of Chlamydomonas sp. ICE-L to sea-ice environment remains unclear. To study the adaptive strategies in Chlamydomonas sp. ICE-L, we investigated the molecular evolution of chloroplast photosynthetic genes that are essential for the accumulation of carbohydrate and energy living in Antarctic sea ice. Results The 60 chloroplast protein-coding genes of Chlamydomonas sp. ICE-L were obtained, and the branch-site test detected significant signatures of positive selection on atpB, psaB, and rbcL genes in Chlamydomonas sp. ICE-L associated with the photosynthetic machinery. These positively selected genes were further identified as being under convergent evolution between Chlamydomonas sp. ICE-L and the halotolerant alga Dunaliella salina. Conclusions Our study provides evidence that the phototrophic component of Chlamydomonas sp. ICE-L exhibits adaptive evolution under extreme environment. The positive Darwinian selection operates on the chloroplast protein-coding genes of Antarctic ice algae adapted to extreme environment following functional-specific and lineages-specific patterns. In addition, three positively selected genes with convergent substitutions in Chlamydomonas sp. ICE-L were identified, and the adaptive modifications in these genes were in functionally important regions of the proteins. Our study provides a foundation for future experiments on the biochemical and physiological impacts of photosynthetic genes in green algae.

The accurate estimation of nearshore bathymetry is necessary for multiple aspects of coastal research and practices. The traditional shipborne single-beam/multi-beam echo sounders and Airborne Lidar bathymetry (ALB) have a high cost, are inefficient, and have sparse coverage. The Satellite-derived bathymetry (SDB) method has been proven to be a promising tool in obtaining bathymetric data in shallow water. However, current empirical SDB methods for multispectral imagery data usually rely on in situ depths as control points, severely limiting their spatial application. This study proposed a satellite-derived bathymetry method without requiring a priori in situ data by merging active and passive remote sensing (SDB-AP). It realizes rapid bathymetric mapping with only satellite remotely sensed data, which greatly extends the spatial coverage and temporal scale. First, seafloor photons were detected from the ICESat-2 raw photons based on an improved adaptive Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise (DBSCAN) algorithm, which could calculate the optimal detection parameters for seafloor photons by adaptive iteration. Then, the bathymetry of the detected seafloor photons was corrected because of the refraction that occurs at the air–water interface. Afterward, the outlier photons were removed by an outlier-removal algorithm to improve the retrieval accuracy. Subsequently, the high spatial resolution (0.7 m) ICESat-2 derived bathymetry data were gridded to match the Sentinel-2 data with a lower spatial resolution (10 m). All of the ICESate-2 gridded data were randomly separated into two parts: 80% were employed to train the empirical bathymetric model, and the remaining 20% were used to quantify the inversion accuracy. Finally, after merging the ICESat-2 data and Sentinel-2 multispectral images, the bathymetric maps over St. Thomas of the United States Virgin Islands, Acklins Island in the Bahamas, and Huaguang Reef in the South China Sea were produced. The ICESat-2-derived results were compared against in situ data over the St. Thomas area. The results showed that the estimated bathymetry reached excellent inversion accuracy and the corresponding RMSE was 0.68 m. In addition, the RMSEs between the SDB-AP estimated depths and the ICESat-2 bathymetry results of St. Thomas, Acklins Island, and Huaguang Reef were 0.96 m, 0.91 m, and 0.94 m, respectively. Overall, the above results indicate that the SDB-AP method is effective and feasible for different shallow water regions. It has great potential for large-scale and long-term nearshore bathymetry in the future.

This study aimed to provide comparative information of pharmaceutical properties, including particle morphology and distribution uniformity, solubility, presence of residual solvent and insoluble particles, and antimicrobial activities, between brand-name meropenem (Mepem®, BNM) and its six generic products (GPs A-F) marketed in China. Particles of GP-A and -C in dry powder had similar diameters of BNM, while other GPs were larger. Only BNM and GP-A were completely dissolved within 100 s in the lab condition. No insoluble particles >25 μm in diameter were detected in BNM and GP-E. Regarding stability of GPs solutions evaluated by concentration of open-ring metabolites at 6 h and 8 h, BNM showed the lowest open-ringed metabolite concentrates. Residual solvent of acetone detected in one GP showed the maximum value, while ethanol and ethyl acetate were detected both in product E and product F. The concordance rates (%) of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of each generic compared to BNM were 89.5, 85, 87.5, 88, 88.5, and 86.5, respectively, although no significant difference was reached in MIC. Pharmaceutical characteristic differences between the BNM and GPs identified in this study could provide insights into understanding the deviations in the drug manufacturing processes of generic drugs.

Environmental acclimation ability plays a key role in plant growth, although the mechanism remains unclear. Here, we determined the involvement of Arabidopsis thaliana PLANT DEFENSIN 1 gene AtPDF1.5 in the adaptation to low nitrogen (LN) levels and cadmium (Cd) stress. Histochemical analysis revealed that AtPDF1.5 was mainly expressed in the nodes and carpopodium and was significantly induced in plants exposed to LN conditions and Cd stress. Subcellular localization analysis revealed that AtPDF1.5 was cell wall- and cytoplasm-localized. AtPDF1.5 overexpression significantly enhanced adaptation to LN and Cd stress and enhanced the distribution of metallic elements. The functional disruption of AtPDF1.5 reduced adaptations to LN and Cd stress and impaired metal distribution. Under LN conditions, the nitrate transporter AtNRT1.5 expression was upregulated. Nitrate transporter AtNRT1.8 expression was downregulated when AtPDF1.5 was overexpressed, resulting in enhanced transport of NO3− to shoots. In response to Cd treatment, AtPDF1.5 regulated the expression of metal transporter genes AtHMP07, AtNRAMP4, AtNRAMP1, and AtHIPP3, resulting in higher Cd accumulation in the shoots. We conclude that AtPDF1.5 is involved in the processing or transmission of signal substances and plays an important role in the remediation of Cd pollution and LN adaptation.

An effective lidar simulator is vital for its system design and processing algorithms. However, laser transmission is a complex process due to the effects of sea surface and various interactions in seawater such as absorption, scattering, and so on. It is sophisticated and difficult for multiple scattering to accurately simulate. In this study, a multiple-scattering lidar model based on multiple-forward-scattering-single-backscattering approximation for oceanic lidar was proposed. Compared with previous analytic models, this model can work without assuming a homogeneous water and fixed scattering phase function. Besides, it takes consideration of lidar system and environmental parameters including receiver field of view, different scattering phase functions, particulate sizes, stratified water, and rough sea surface. One should note that because the scattering phase function is difficult to determine accurately, the simulation accuracy may be reduced in a complex oceanic environment. The Cox–Munk model used in our method simulates capillarity waves but ignores gravity waves, and the pulse stretching is not included. The wide-angle scattering occurs in the dense subsurface phytoplankton, which sometimes makes it hard to use this model. In this study, we firstly derived this method based on an analytical solution by convolving Gaussians of the forward-scattering contribution of layer dr and the energy density at R in the small-angle-scattering approximation. Then, the effects of multiple scattering and water optical properties were analyzed using the model. Meanwhile, the validation with Monte Carlo model was implemented. Their coefficient of determination is beyond 0.9, the RMSE is within 0.02, the MAD is within 0.02, and the MAPD is within 8%, which indicates that our model is efficient for oceanographic lidar simulation. Finally, we studied the effects of FOV, SPF, rough sea surface, stratified water, and particle size. These results can provide reference for the design of the oceanic lidar system and contribute to the processing of lidar echo signals.

Google Scholar has been a widely used platform for academic performance evaluation and citation analysis. The issue about the mis-configuration of author profiles may seriously damage the reliability of the data, and thus affect the accuracy of analysis. Therefore, it is important to detect the mis-configured author profiles. Dealing with this issue is challenging because the scale of the dataset is large and manual annotation is time-consuming and relatively subjective. In this paper, we first collect a dataset of Google Scholar’s author profiles in the field of computer science and compare the mis-configured author profiles with the reliable ones. Then, we propose an integrated model that utilizes machine learning and node embedding to automatically detect mis-configured author profiles. Additionally, we conduct two application case studies based on the data of Google Scholar, i.e., outstanding scholar searching and university ranking, to demonstrate how the improved dataset after filtering out the mis-configured author profiles will change the results. The two case studies validate the importance and meaningfulness of the detection of mis-configured author profiles.

Temporal stability of plant communities is driven by several mechanisms and may be influenced by climate change. Here it is shown that warming, but not precipitation, reduces species asynchrony in an alpine grassland, leading to lower biomass temporal stability.

Here we selected eight types of feedstocks to assess the effects of pyrolysis temperature (300°C, 400°C, 500°C and 600°C) and residence time (0.5, 1, 2, 4, 8 and 24 h), respectively, on the physicochemical properties. The fixed-carbon content, pH value and amount of basic functional groups in biochars increased as the pyrolysis temperature increased from 300°C to 600°C; the opposite trend was found in the biochar yield, adsorption capacity and amount of acidic functional groups. Increasing the residence time at low pyrolysis temperature (300°C) resulted in a gradual reduction in the biochar yield and progressive increase in the pH and iodine adsorption number of biochars. However, increasing the residence time at high pyrolysis temperature (600°C) had little effect on the biochar yield or pH, while it decreased the iodine adsorption number of biochars. Given the effects of pyrolysis conditions on the pH and iodine adsorption number of biochars, low-ash agricultural wastes (e.g. wheat straw) can be pyrolysed at 300°C, 2 h to produce biochar for improving alkaline soils; high-ash agricultural wastes (e.g. sweet potato vine) and forest litter (e.g. fresh leaves of apricot tree) are preferably pyrolysed at 300°C, 4 h to produce biochar for use in acidic soils.
