153. A Generic Inverted Index Framework for Similarity Search on the GPU - Technical Report

Abstract

We propose a novel generic inverted index framework on the GPU (called GENIE), aiming to reduce the programming complexity of the GPU for parallel similarity search of different data types. Not every data type and similarity measure are supported by GENIE, but many popular ones are. We present the system design of GENIE, and demonstrate similarity search with GENIE on several data types along with a theoretical analysis of search results. A new concept of locality sensitive hashing (LSH) named $\tau$-ANN search, and a novel data structure c-PQ on the GPU are also proposed for achieving this purpose. Extensive experiments on different real-life datasets demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of our framework. 166. Parallel Attention for Multitask Road Object Detection in Autonomous Driving

Abstract

Deep learning-based road object detection methods have been widely studied, actively promoting the development of autonomous driving. However, most methods handle tasks individually, which is more time-consuming than parallel processing. Additionally, due to the differences in task characteristics, existing multitask detection methods cannot ensure excellent performance for each task, and there is a problem of unclear boundaries between tasks. To address these challenges, we propose a new unified neural network framework named BHF-MTM, effectively meeting the detection requirements of multiple tasks. Firstly, different shared layers are allocated according to the different characteristics of visual tasks to improve model performance. Furthermore, we design a pixel attention enhancement module (PAEM) to enhance the model’s ability to capture pixel features and spatial position perception. In addition, for tasks that emphasize pixel information, we assist in constructing a segmentation decoder by guided edge refinement module (GERM) to enhance the ability to capture the edge contour clues that were ignored during execution. We evaluate the proposed method on the BDD100K dataset and compare it with existing models. The experimental results indicate that our proposed BHF-MTM has achieved state-of-the-art performance.

167. Adipogenic Effects of Cresyl Diphenyl Phosphate (Triphenyl Phosphate Alternative) through Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor Gamma Pathway: A Comprehensive Study Integrating In Vitro, In Vivo, and In Silicofrom Molecule to Health Risk

Abstract

Cresyl diphenyl phosphate (CDP), a novel organophosphate ester (OPE), has been detected in various environmental and human samples. However, there is very limited knowledge regarding its toxicity, mechanisms of action, and potential health risks. Using new alternative methods (NAMs), across the molecular interactions, signaling pathways, cell functions, animal effects, and population risks, we investigated the potential adipogenic effects and associated risks of CDP and legacy OPE triphenyl phosphate (TPHP) by acting on peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ). Among the 19 screened OPEs, CDP bound to PPARγ with the highest binding potency, followed by TPHP. CDP activated PPARγ through fitting into the binding pocket with strong hydrophobicity and hydrogen bond interactions; CDP exhibited higher potency compared to TPHP. In 3T3-L1 cells, CDP enhanced the PPARγ-mediated adipogenesis activity, exhibiting greater potency than TPHP. The intracellular concentration and receptor-bound concentrations (RBC) of CDP were also higher than those of TPHP in both HEK293 cells and 3T3-L1 cells. In mice, exposure to CDP activated the PPARγ-mediated adipogenic pathway, leading to an increased white adipose tissue weight gain. Overall, CDP could bind to and activate PPARγ, thereby promoting preadipocyte differentiation and the development of white adipose tissue. Its potential obesogenic risks should be of high concern.

168. Enhanced Curve Perception in Lane Detection via Adaptive Guided Techniques

Abstract

Lane detection is the prominent perception task for both self-driving and advanced driver assistant system. Recently, lane detection methods based on anchors have received increasing attention, but fixed shape anchors are difficult to model complex lane line shapes. To solve this problem, we propose an Enhanced Curve Perception Network (ECPNet) to detect the shapes of lane lines more flexibly and accurately. Specifically, we propose a Layer-by-layer Context Fusion Module (LCFM) to fully utilize both high-level and low-level features in lane detection, which can simultaneously obtain the global spatial structure relations and the local accurate positioning details. The module includes short hop connections within the initial layer and between feature layers of different scales. More importantly, we propose a novel Structural Correction Prediction Module (SCPM), which enhances the model's detection capability on curved structured lanes by assisting model selection anchor classification mode through adaptive guided techniques. In addition, we design a branch network and construct a Cross-channel Attention Mechanism (CAM) to realize self-information attention, which further enhances the detection accuracy. Experiments on the two most representative datasets demonstrate that the proposed method achieves state-of-the-art performance in a variety of environments, especially in curvy lanes.

This study investigates the association between cadherin 23 (CDH23) gene variants and noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL).Methods: This is a case-control study. Workers who were exposed to noise from a steel factory in North China were recruited and divided into two groups: the case group (both ears’ high-frequency threshold average [BHFTA] ≥ 40dB) and the control group (BHFTA ≤ 25 dB). This study used the generalised multifactor dimensionality reduction method to analyse the association among 18 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in CDH23 and NIHL. Logistic regression was performed to investigate the main effects of SNPs and the interactions between cumulative noise exposure (CNE) and SNPs. Furthermore, CNE was adjusted for age, gender, smoking, drinking, physical exercise and hypertension.Results: This study recruited 1,117 participants. The results showed that for rs11592462, participants who carried the GG genotype showed an association with NIHL greater than that of those who carried the CC genotype. Abstract

Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) industry is expanding rapidly in the context of addressing the challenge of climate change and energy crisis. As a technology-intensive product, large number of new synthetic chemicals are applied in LIBs production. Organic fluorine additives are added in multiple components of LIBs, many of these additives are novel per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (with fully fluorinated methyl or methylene carbon atom), here, in this work we referred to this kind of compounds as LIB-PFAS. LIB-PFAS may cause high exposure to personnel in contact with LIBs materials during production and disposal processes, thus posing potential health risks to these occupational workers. The general population can be exposed to LIB-PFAS when they are released into the surrounding air, soil, and water. In order to assess potential health risks associated with LIB-PFAS, this review systematically summarizes the chemical structures, analytical methods, possible emission routes and human exposure pathways, their bioaccumulation, distribution, and elimination behaviors in humans, and existing toxicity data of LIB-PFAS. In particular, the screening and identification methods for 57 LIB-PFAS are discussed, as well as the investigation of emission processes and exposure risks during the manufacturing and disposal of LIB. Although the available scientific data is still limited, this review provide an insightful view and novel perspective for further research on the occupational and environmental health impacts of LIB-PFAS. Abstract

The frequency support capacity of power loads is essential for maintaining active power symmetry and balance between the generation and demand sides of power systems. As the proportion of renewable energy sources and power electronic equipment increases, the inertia on the power generation side decreases, highlighting the growing importance of frequency support on the load side. As it is generally believed that the active power balance of power systems determines the frequency stability, few studies have considered the effect of voltage variation on the frequency response dynamics. It is important to note that the node voltage keeps fluctuating throughout the frequency dynamic process, which affects the active power of loads and should not be neglected. Based on the aforementioned rationales, this paper endeavors to investigate the modeling of power load frequency response and analyze its support capability considering the voltage variation effect. This paper initially establishes the small-signal model of dynamic load under frequency dynamics, derives the transfer function relating active power to system frequency deviation, and subsequently develops its frequency response model. Subsequently, commencing with the ZIP model of static load, the power fluctuation of load nodes is derived from the influence of preceding nodes, and the frequency response model of the static load is formulated and its frequency support capacity is scrutinized. Based on this foundation, a comprehensive aggregation model of the complex load is constructed, and its frequency support capability is assessed using actual data.
