Suffering from the susceptibility to decomposition, the potential electrochemical application of FeOCl has greatly been hindered. The rational design of the soft‐hard material interface can effectively address the challenge of stress concentration and thus decomposition that may occur in the electrodes during charging and discharging. Herein, interlayer structure manipulation of FeOCl/MXene using soft‐hard interface design method were conducted for electrochemical dechlorination. FeOCl was encapsulated in Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets by electrostatic self‐assembly layer by layer to form a soft‐hard mechanical hierarchical structure, in which Ti3C2Tx was used as flexible buffer layers to relieve the huge volume change of FeOCl during Cl− intercalation/deintercalation and constructed a conductive network for fast charge transfer. The CDI dechlorination system of FeOCl/Ti3C2Tx delivered outstanding Cl− adsorption capacity (158.47 ± 6.98 mg g−1), rate (6.07 ± 0.35 mg g−1 min−1), and stability (over 94.49 % in 30 cycles), and achieved considerable energy recovery (21.14 ± 0.25 %). The superior dechlorination performance was proved to originate from the Fe2+/Fe3+ topochemical transformation and the deformation constraint effect of Ti3C2Tx on FeOCl. Our interfacial design strategy enables a hard‐to‐soft integration capacity, which can serve as a universal technology for solving the traditional problem of electrode volume expansion. Optically spatial displacement and material modification hold great potential for the appealing applications in nanofabrication and reconfiguration of functional optical devices. Here, we propose and demonstrate a scheme to achieve simultaneous deformation and phase change in vanadium dioxide (VO2)/Si3N4/Au hybrid nanostructures by laser stimuli. Low triggering threshold and significant deformation characteristics of VO2, based on controllable phase transition, are demonstrated in microscale cantilevers. The plasmonic properties of the nanostructure array are further utilized to achieve a polarization-selective dynamic response. The persistence of deformation and dynamical optical modulation are further demonstrated. Such high-precision fabrication methods and non-contact reconfiguration methods are useful for future applications in dynamic optical manipulation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The traditional detection methods of steel surface defects have some problems, such as a lack of feature extraction ability, sluggish detection speed, and subpar detection performance. In this paper, a YOLOv8-based DDI-YOLO model is suggested for effective steel surface defect detection. First, on the Backbone network, the extended residual module (DWR) is fused with the C2f module to obtain C2f_DWR, and the two-step approach is used to carry out the effective extraction of multiscale contextual information, and then fusing feature maps formed from the multiscale receptive fields to enhance the capacity for feature extraction. Also based on the above, an extended heavy parameter module (DRB) is added to the structure of C2f_DWR to make up for the lack of C2f's ability to capture small-scale pattern defects between training to enhance the training fluency of the model. Finally, the Inner-IoU loss function is employed to enhance the regression accuracy and training speed of the model. The experimental results show that the detection of DDI-YOLO on the NEU-DET dataset improves the mAP by 2.4%, the accuracy by 3.3%, and the FPS by 59 frames/s compared with the original YOLOv8n.Therefore, this paper's proposed model has a superior mAP, accuracy, and FPS in identifying surface defects in steel. Introduction: Postoperative pain control is a challenge in enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS). The current study reviewed the efficacy and safety of incorporating acupoint stimulation for postoperative pain control in ERAS. Methods: Ten databases for relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published in English or Mandarin Chinese were searched from 1997 to 2022. The quality of each article was appraised using the Cochrane Collaboration Risk of Bias Criteria and the modified Jadad Scale. The primary outcome was pain control, measured using the visual analog scale 24 h after surgery. Results: Eleven trials met the eligibility criteria and were included in the study. Acupoint stimulation was found more effective than control treatments in terms of pain intensity (standardized mean difference [SMD] −0.94; 95% confidence interval [CI] −1.35 to −0.53), analgesic drug consumption (SMD −1.87; 95% CI −2.98 to −0.75), postoperative nausea (PON; SMD 0.31; 95% CI 0.13 to 0.73), postoperative vomiting (POV; SMD 0.57; 95% CI 0.11 to 2.92), and PON and POV (PONV; SMD 0.29; 95% CI 0.16 to 0.53). The Zusanli (ST36) and Neiguan (PC6) were the most-used acupoints in the included trials (8/11). The reported adverse reaction was only one case of bruising. Discussion: Acupoint stimulation improved pain control in patients undergoing ERAS more than control treatments. The findings provide an evidence-based premise for incorporating acupoint stimulation into ERAS strategies. More rigorous RCTs are needed in the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To enhance the comprehensive performance of Mg matrix composites, as-cast AlCrFeCoNip/AZ91D composites with different reinforcement contents were heat treated. Optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy were employed to characterize the microstructure evolution. The experimental results reveal that with the increasing content of AlCoNiCrFe particles, the average grain size of matrix and quantity of the β-Mg17Al12 phases decreased, and the morphology of β-Mg17Al12 phase changed. There was no intermetallic compound formed at the AlCrFeCoNi/α-Mg interface, and the AlCrFeCoNi particles' partial dissolution occured. After solution treatment at 673 K for 24 h and aging at 443 K for 16 h, the nominal component 10 vol.% composite obtained the best strength performance. The results demonstrated that variations in the quantity and shape of the β-Mg17Al12 phases, grain refinement strengthening, and CTE mismatch strengthening were mainly responsible for changes in the strength properties of the composites. Objective: To examine the association between various sociodemographic factors with alcohol and tobacco use behaviors during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Participants from Ohio and Indiana were asked to participate in the 'Impact of COVID-19 on the Cancer Continuum Consortium' study (N = 32,989) from June–November 2020. Those who completed the survey and responded to key study questions were included (n = 5,374). Participants were asked about the frequency and type of alcohol and tobacco product used. Multivariable logistic regression was conducted to determine factors associated with the impact of COVID-19 on change in alcohol and/or tobacco use. Results: Mean age was 57 years old, 68% were female, 90% non-Hispanic white, 75% married, and 31% lived in rural counties. Out of 5,374 participants, 53% used alcohol-only (n = 2,833), 5% used tobacco-only (n = 255), 7% used both alcohol and tobacco (n = 395), and 35% used neither alcohol nor tobacco (n = 1,891). Urban county of residence (vs. rural) was associated with an increase in alcohol-use (p = 0.0001), change in alcohol products (p = 0.023), and an increase in tobacco use (p = 0.05). Among alcohol-only users, those who were younger (OR = 0.97), female (OR = 1.58), married (OR = 1.69), of high socioeconomic status (OR = 1.99), residing in urban counties (OR = 1.65), and had elevated financial (OR = 1.06) and employment concerns (OR = 1.28) were significantly more likely to report increased alcohol-use. Similarly, among tobacco users, those who were younger (OR = 0.97), female (OR = 2.79), married (OR = 2.16) or divorced (OR = 2.83), and had higher levels of neighborhood disadvantage (OR = 2.19) were significantly more likely to report increased tobacco-use. Conclusions: Findings suggest targeted intervention and prevention strategies for young, female participants with elevated financial and employment concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic are necessary to mitigate risks associated with higher odds of alcohol and tobacco use. This study demonstrates that the magnetic quadrupole (MQ) can make an indispensable contribution to helical dichroism (HD), which is distinct from HD caused by electric quadrupole (EQ). Specifically, the established multipole expansion theory of the light–matter interaction reveals that EQ‐induced HD belongs to the pure electric dipole–quadrupole (E1‐E2) excitation, while newly discovered MQ‐induced HD belongs to the pure magnetic dipole‐quadrupole (M1‐M2) excitation. Metallic propeller meta‐molecules are used to elaborate on this novel physical mechanism and demonstrate that HD can be significantly enhanced and flexibly tuned by increasing stereo twist of propeller meta‐molecules or slightly focusing the linearly polarized vortex beam to improve the orbital angular momentum number. Importantly, the aforementioned intriguing phenomena are validated by fabricating stereo twisted propeller meta‐molecules via nano‐kirigami method. The findings reveal a paradigm‐shift approach to manipulate the chiroptical response of a single metallic nanostructure via photonic orbital angular moment, opening prospects for optical encryption, communication, next‐generation chiroptical spectroscopy, and chiral vortex optical devices. Summary: Cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS), encoded by the mitochondrial open reading frames (ORFs), has long been used to economically produce crop hybrids. However, the utilization of CMS also hinders the exploitation of sterility and fertility variation in the absence of a restorer line, which in turn narrows the genetic background and reduces biodiversity. Here, we used a mitochondrial targeted transcription activator‐like effector nuclease (mitoTALENs) to knock out ORF138 from the Ogura CMS broccoli hybrid. The knockout was confirmed by the amplification and re‐sequencing read mapping to the mitochondrial genome. As a result, knockout of ORF138 restored the fertility of the CMS hybrid, and simultaneously manifested a cold‐sensitive male sterility. ORF138 depletion is stably inherited to the next generation, allowing for direct use in the breeding process. In addition, we proposed a highly reliable and cost‐effective toolkit to accelerate the life cycle of fertile lines from CMS‐derived broccoli hybrids. By applying the k‐mean clustering and interaction network analysis, we identified the central gene networks involved in the fertility restoration and cold‐sensitive male sterility. Our study enables mitochondrial genome editing via mitoTALENs in Brassicaceae vegetable crops and provides evidence that the sex production machinery and its temperature‐responsive ability are regulated by the mitochondria. Corporate accountability remains a significant construct in normative business management theory, yet it remains ambiguous in practice. This research operationalizes a three-factor perceived corporate accountability scale from the consumers' perspective based on the extant literature then validates this scale among three consumer samples. Perceived corporate accountability consists of three factors: proactive expectancy, reactive expectancy, and accountability enforcement. Implications for both theory and practice are discussed. Microplastics can function as carriers in the environment, absorbing various toxins and spreading to diverse ecosystems. Toxins accumulated in microplastics have the potential to be re-released, posing a threat. In this study, two typical plastics, namely polyethylene (PE) and polystyrene (PS), along with the degradable plastic poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT), were subjected to a long-term ultraviolet alternating weathering experiment. The study investigated the variations in the weathering process and pollutant adsorption of microplastics of different particle sizes. Furthermore, the adsorption capacity of microplastics for various pollutants was assessed. The findings indicate that particle size significantly influences weathering, leading to variations in adsorption capacity. The weathered PE displays a higher adsorption capacity for azo dyes. Additionally, the adsorption capacity of PBAT for neutral red is double that of antibiotics. Importantly, the maximum adsorption capacity of PBAT for pollutants after aging is approximately 10 times greater than that of PE. Consequently, degradable plastics undergoing weathering in the natural environment may pose a higher ecological risk than traditional plastics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
