Radio Frequency (RF) fingerprinting is one physical-layer authentication method for wireless communication, which uses the unique hardware characteristic of the transmitter to identify its true identity. To improve the performance of RF Fingerprint (RFF) based on preamble with fixed duration, a nonlinear RF fingerprinting method based on payload symbols is proposed for the wireless OFDM communication with the bit mapping scheme of QPSK. The wireless communication system is modeled as a Hammerstein system containing the nonlinear transmitter and multipath fading channel. A parameter separation technique based on orthogonal polynomial is presented for the estimation of the parameters of the Hammerstein system. The Hammerstein system parameter separation technique is firstly used to estimate the linear parameter with the training signal, which is used to compensate the adverse effect of the linear channel for the demodulation of the successive payload symbols. The demodulated payload symbols are further used to estimate the nonlinear coefficients of the transmitter with the Hammerstein system parameter separation technique again, which is used as the novel RFF for the authentication of the QPSK-OFDM device. Numerical simulations have verified the proposed method, which can also be extended to the OFDM signals with other bit mapping schemes.

Due to the inherent broadcast characteristics of wireless communications, the data transmission is difficult to be shielded from unintended recipients. Secure communications over wireless channel is regarded as an effective way to overcome this issue in the design of wireless networks. In this paper, a new cooperative relaying system based on partial non-orthogonal multiple access (P-NOMA) is proposed, where two relays help the communications between the source and destination nodes in the presence of an eavesdropper (Eve). Specifically, after receiving the P-NOMA signals transmitted from the base station, the relay nodes decode and forward the receptions under the attack of a passive Eve. To improve the physical layer security (PLS) of the proposed system, we design four cooperative schemes for signals decoded at the relays and destination, where maximum ratio combination (MRC) technique is adopted to both destination and Eve to construe the worst case for achievable secrecy rate. Without lose of generality, the channel conditions (weak or strong), new power allocations, decoding principles and Eve locations are considered in designing forwarding schemes. In particular, to further improve the achievable secrecy rate, we also propose that, if the Eve locating near to the weak relay node, the weak relay only forwards the signal with lower power allocation factor at the base station. The closed-form expressions of the achievable secrecy rates are derived for the proposed schemes over Rayleigh fading and Nakagami- $m$ fading channels, which well match the simulation results. By means of the numerical result, it corroborates the superiority of the proposed P-NOMA schemes over the conventional NOMA schemes. It is also revealed that, with an increasing overlap ratio, the advantage in terms of the secrecy rate becomes more remarkable.

In this article, the physical layer security (PLS) is investigated for reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided wireless communication systems, where one RIS is deployed to assist the communications between a pair of transmitter (Alice) and receiver (Bob), under a passive eavesdropper (Eve) attack. For the Eve, different from the bounded channel state information uncertainty model, the distribution of the Eve’s location is introduced into the wiretap link. In the proposed system, considering that the Eve can overhear signals transmitted from Alice or reflected by the RIS, two scenarios are studied for RIS-aided secure communication systems: one is that the Eve distributes close to Alice without the RIS orientation, and the other is that the Eve locates close to Bob and in the presence of the RIS. After investigating the probability distribution functions of the Eve’s location and the wiretap link, the novel cumulative density functions (CDFs) of the received signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) at the Eves are, respectively, derived for the two considered scenarios, taking into account the effects of RIS reflection coefficients, pathloss, and Eve’s location distribution. The closed-form expressions for the probability of the nonzero secrecy capacity and the ergodic secrecy capacity are obtained, providing insights into the impact of the Eve’s location uncertainty and the RIS design on the secrecy performance. Moreover, based on the derived CDFs for received SNRs at Eves, the secrecy outage probabilities are, respectively, analyzed. Specifically, under the constraint of the secrecy outage probability, the closed forms of the minimum required SNRs at Bob and the number of RIS elements are also obtained. Simulation and analytical results corroborate the derived expressions and reveal the tradeoff between the system’s energy efficiency and the number of RIS elements.
