Abstract

In the field of radiation protection, the point-kernel code method is a practical tool widely used in the calculation of 3-D radiation field, and the accuracy of the point-kernel integration method strongly depends on the accuracy of the build-up factor. It is well known that calculation of the build-up factor for single-layer shields is composed of single material, but it is very complicated to calculate the build-up factor for multilayer shields (MLBUF). Recently, a novel and high-precision method based on the deep neural network (DNN) for calculating MLBUF has been proposed. In this paper, the novel method is described completely by slab models. Through the study of photon transport in multilayer shields, the parameters that mainly affect the calculation of build-up factor are analyzed. These parameters are trained by DNN as the input vectors, and the build-up factor for multilayer shields is predicted based on the trained DNN. The results predicted by DNN confirm that the method can calculate the build-up factor for multilayer shields quickly and accurately. The method has been preliminarily applicated into a 3-D radiation field calculation software, and it has proved that the method for calculating MLBUF has a broad application prospects in 3-D radiation field calculation.

Abstract

Simple Summary Storing insects at low temperature has been an effective approach for mass rearing programs, which can increase the shelf-life of bioagents and flexibly manipulate their pre-release periods. However, introducing insects to temperatures outside of their accustomed range can lead to stress and thereby influence their quality and competitiveness in the field. Bactrocera dorsalis is an economically important pest can devastate many fruits and vegetables, and cold storage has been used in storing, packing and shipping of sterile B. dorsalis males to control the wild population, but the impact of cold storage on the quality of B. dorsalis has never been investigated. Here, we examined the impacts of pupal cold storage on developmental parameters and quality of B. dorsalis adults. Overall, we found that pupal cold storage has a negative effect on some biological parameters of B. dorsalis, especially in fecundity. Thus, heat exposure was further conducted on the post-storage adults, and our results show that short-term heat exposure could partially compensate for the loss in fecundity in B. dorsalis adults resulting from the pupal cold storage. Our findings indicate that the flexibility of the B. dorsalis mass rearing program could be improved by utilizing cold storage and heat exposure. Abstract Cold storage and heat exposure are crucial components of tephritid fruit fly mass-rearing programs, as they influence the development and fitness traits of produced flies. This work investigated the effects of cold storage on the pupal developmental parameters and quality of Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel) genetic sexing strain (GSS) adults. Furthermore, the impact of short-term thermal exposure on the fecundity of B. dorsalis (GSS) that also underwent pupal cold storage was examined. Our results show that pupal development time, emergence rate, partial emergence rate, flight ability and fecundity were significantly affected by low temperature and pupal age and their interaction. Pupal cold storage did not pose negative impacts on the mating competition and response to methyl eugenol (ME) in the males. In addition, compared with the adults that were subjected to the same pupal storage protocol (five-day-old pupae stored at 13 °C), adult exposure to 41 °C for 1 h showed significant reparative effects on fecundity. In summary, the cold storage procedure of B. dorsalis (GSS) pupae has the potential to improve the flexibility and efficiency of mass-rearing schedules. Furthermore, short-term thermal exposure showed reparative effects on the fecundity costs induced by pupal cold storage in B. dorsalis (GSS).

Abstract

The prevalence of obesity and its associated diseases is increasing. In the current study, 15 obese subjects took part in a 12-week multiphase dietetic protocol incorporating an improved ketogenic diet (MDP-i-KD) (KYLLKS 201806). We investigated the effects of the MDP-i-KD on the anthropometric parameters and the gut microbiota of obese subjects. Our results showed that the MDP-i-KD led to significant reductions in body mass index in obese subjects. The MDP-i-KD significantly decreased the relative abundance of the Lachnospiraceae_ND3007_group, the Eubacterium_hallii_group, and Pseudomonas and Blautia. In addition, gut microbiota co-occurrence networks in obese subjects were restructured to a more healthy condition after weight loss. These results show that the MDP-i-KD enhanced weight loss, which may be associated with dietary-induced changes in the gut microbiome. Our results emphasise the importance of determining the interaction between the host and microbial cells to comprehensively understand the mechanism by which diet affects host physiology and the microbiota. We report three cases of NSCLC with LM who were treated with the combination of nimotuzumab and erlotinib. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) evaluation during follow-up showed significant improvement in cancer symptoms and decreased tumor size in all three patients. Grade 3 and 4 toxicities were rarely seen. Abstract

Earth stations i ES) play a vitally important role in satellite communication systems i SCS), and the evaluation of earth stations is in deadly need with the rapid development of SCS application market, but only a few researches have been done on it. In this paper, an earth station marking scheme based on TOPSIS. which is one of the most popular MCDM method, is proposed. By this scheme, the marking result is rational, comprehensive, interpretable and comparable. To lake both people's preferences on criteria and objectivity of the result into account, pairwise comparison matrix method is used to calculate weights of criteria. Instead of constructing ideal solution from extreme criteria values of alternatives, fixed positive and negative ideal solutions (FPIS and FNIS) are proposed to avoid rank reversal and keep the result consistent.

Abstract

In response to the explosive growth of mobile traffic, the introduction of cache in heterogeneous networks (HetNets) has become one of the hot research directions. At present, the cache deployment strategy has some problems, such as low cache hit rate and high cache data redundancy, which does not make full use of storage resources and directly affects the network performance. To solve the above problems, a virtual clustering cooperative cache deployment strategy based on user interest-aware is proposed to improve the performance of cache system. Virtual clustering is constructed according to the user distance, and the system cache content is determined according to the content request factor. The cache content is shared by base station cooperative caching and virtual clustering among users. The optimization model is established to maximize the cache hit rate and is solved by greedy algorithm. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that, compared with the existing methods, the proposed method has significantly improved the performance of cache hit rate and system average transmission delay in HetNets scenarios. Abstract

Respiratory diseases like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are associated with the presence of particulate matter 2.5 (PM2.5) in the air. In the present study, the effect of synthesized ursolic acid derivatives on mice model of PM2.5‐induced COPD was investigated in vivo. The mice model of COPD was established by the administration of 25 μL of PM2.5 suspension through intranasal route daily for 1 week. The levels of oxidative stress markers and inflammatory cytokines like tumor necrosis factors‐α and interleukin‐6 in the mice bronchoalveolar fluids increased markedly on administration with PM2.5. However, treatment with ursolic acid derivative caused a significant suppression in PM2.5‐induced increase in oxidative stress markers and inflammatory cytokines in dose‐dependent manner. Hematoxylin and eosin staining showed excessive inflammatory cell infiltration in pulmonary tissues in mice with COPD. The inflammatory cell infiltration was inhibited on treatment of the mice with ursolic acid derivative. The ursolic acid derivative treatment increased level of superoxide dismutase in mice with COPD. The lung injury induced by PM2.5 in mice was also prevented on treatment with ursolic acid derivative. Thus, ursolic acid derivative inhibits pulmonary tissues damage in mice through suppression of inflammatory cytokine and oxidative enzymes. Therefore, ursolic acid derivative can be of therapeutic importance for treatment of PM2.5‐induced COPD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
